REVIEW: DIGGER is the third instalment in Brooke Summers’ contemporary, adult FURY VIPERS dark, erotic, MC romance series focusing on the men and women of the Fury Vipers MC. This is thirty-nine year old Tate ‘Digger’ Miller, and primary school teacher Octavia ‘Tavia’ Michaels’ story line. DIGGER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Tavia and Digger), using present day and memories from the past, following several converging pathways, DIGGER follows the building relationship between thirty-nine year old Tate ‘Digger’ Miller, and primary school teacher Octavia ‘Tavia’ Michaels. Two years earlier Octavia Michaels barely survived an abusive relationship with a member from a rival MC, the Hangman’s Disciples. Fast forward to present day wherein a one-night stand with Digger ends abruptly in the wake of nightmares and PTSD. Believing herself unworthy, Tavia struggles in the years since her recovery and rescue but Tavia ha been targeted, and Tate ‘Digger’ Miller has proclaimed himself guardian and protector. What ensues is the building relationship between Digger and Tavia, and the fall-out as Tavia’s life hangs in the balance on more than one occasion.

The Fury Viper MC has made an enemy of the Hangman’s Disciples, an enemy that is taking aim at the women they love. Tavia spent several days tortured and abused at the hands of her former boyfriend but someone is still determined to destroy our story line heroine. Digger’s past is about to come full circle, and with it someone he knew nothing about but Digger’s priorities are about to change when his growing family is threatened by the Hangman’s Disciples.

The relationship between Tavia and Digger begins acrimoniously when Digger struggles with what he doesn’t know Tavia refuses to become another victim in the face of rejection by our story line hero but Tavia finds herself in danger, and Digger calls in his brothers from the Fury Vipers MC. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters: Stag and Kinley, Effie and Benji, Ace, Preacher, Pyro, Andromeda aka Eda: several members of the Hangman’s Disciples including Blade, Ripper,Rush and Ruby; Effie’s brother Kale ‘Malice’ Ryan; as well as Tavia’s extended family, and the introduction of Cash.

DIGGER is a story of betrayal and vengeance, abuse and power, obsession, family, relationships and love. The premise is gritty and heart breaking but I struggled with the number of times the heroine is left unprotected, attacked and harmed- in every other series, the MC force or take the target into protection-the actions or lack there of are questionable and unbelievable; the romance is emotional and provocative; the characters are charismatic, energetic and broken.
