REVIEW: MORE THAN WANT YOU is the first installment in Shayla Black’s contemporary, adult MORE THAN WORDS erotic, romance series. This is thirty three year old real estate mogul Maxon Reed, and twenty five year old singer/college student Keeley Kent’s story line.

Told from first person point of view (Maxon) with a final chapter from Keeley’s POV, MORE THAN WANT YOU focuses on betrayal, revenge, family dysfunction and mistaken beliefs. Maxon Reed wants revenge against the brother that broke his heart, and tore apart their successful real estate business three years before. Believing his brother betrayed him, Griffin Reed set out to ruin Maxon’s reputation and life including an affair with Maxon’s then girlfriend, and shattering the heart of Britta-the woman who loved Griffin more than her own life. Maxon’s need for revenge involves college senior Keeley Kent, and a proposition to seduce his brother away from a multi-million dollar real estate deal. But things do not go according to plan when Maxon falls for the woman he hopes to use against the brother he once loved and adored. What ensues is the building romance between Maxon and Keeley, and a twist of epic proportions when Maxon goes ahead with plans to beat his brother at his own game.

Throughout the story Keeley tries desperately to convince Maxon not to go ahead with his plans. Keeley has fallen in love with our story line hero and Maxon’s continuing obsession to surpass and out maneuver his brother begins to build a wall between our leading couple. Keeley is a young woman who has fallen for a man who places revenge and greed ahead of the woman he loves.

The relationship between Keeley and Maxon begins as a one-night stand wherein Maxon offers Keeley a proposition that would help solve some of her current situation. But one night with Keeley isn’t enough for Maxon Reed, and the deeper into Maxon’s plans for revenge, the more Maxon realizes he might not be able to go through with his plans. The $ex scenes are intimate, seductive and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. The sexual chemistry is palpable.

We are introduced to Maxon’s business partners Rob, and Britta Stone, as well as Britta’s son Jamie. Britta is a woman whose love for Griffin Reed has never waivered even in the face of betrayal and loss. The family dynamics, including the brothers’ need to push at one another is a direct by-product of a father’s hatred and need for power and control. Griffin and Britta’s story is next in MORE THAN NEED YOU.

The world building focuses on betrayal, revenge, second chances and love. We are witness to one man’s life-long destruction of the family he should have loved, and one man’s need to be the best regardless of who he hurts along the way. The love between Keeley and Maxon is damaged when Maxon insists that to take down his brother is his only option because hatred has destroyed what’s left of his heart. His stubbornness and determination push away the woman with whom he has fallen in love.
