REVIEW: SCARRED BY PAIN is the second full-length instalment in Crimson Syn’s contemporary, adult ROYAL BASTARDS MC: New Orleans LA erotic, MC series focusing on the members of the Royal Bastards MC. This is Sargent at Arms Taron ‘Knuckles’ Brown, and Dyanara Reyes’ story line. SCARRED BY PAIN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Taron and Dyanara) SCARRED BY PAIN follows in the aftermath of an accident wherein an injured Dyanara Reyes finds herself in the hands of the Royal Bastards MC but all is not well in Dyanara’s life as she is an ‘escaped’ prisoner of her brother Tadeo Reyes and the Bloody Scorpions MC. To prevent the death and torture of a fellow member of the Blood Scorpions MC, Dyanara begs to be set free of the Royal Bastards but her returns to the her brother’s prison comes with the consequences of a woman who has been imprisoned for most of her life. Desperate to free the woman that now calls to his heart, Taron aka Knuckles Brown sets into motion a plan to rescue Dyanara, provoking a war between the two MCs for years to come. What ensues is the quick building and sexual relationship between Dyanara and Taron, and the fall-out as war comes to the Bloody Bastards front door, forcing Taron to make a decision that will affect the rest of his life.

Taron ‘Knuckles’ Brown is a former special forces soldier, underground fighter and the Sargent at Arms for the Royal Bastards MC but Taron has yet to find his place and settle down, and with it comes the memories and PTSD of a time he lost everything and everyone he loved. Finding and rescuing Dyanara Reyes gave Talon a purpose in life but Dyanara’s rescue comes with severe consequences, and the possibility of Taron losing his membership with the Royal Bastards MC. With the MC’s focus now on the illegal gun trade, Taron must chose between his brothers and the woman he loves. Dyanara Reyes has never known freedom having been the prisoner of her brother for most of her life but several opportunities have presented themselves for her eventual escape, opportunities of which she has refused to take advantage.

The relationship between Taron and Dayanara is highly sexual, erotic, intense and not without some issues of questionable consent. Taron battles between head and heart knowing his rescue of, and relationship with Dayanara has placed his fellow Royal Bastards MC members in the direct line of fire. The $ex scenes are raw and dramatic; Taron demands Dayanara call him daddy in the bedroom; and is quick to spank our heroine in anger, and love but in this I did not feel the desire or sexual tension but only a need to demand and take. There is no romance only physical pleasure.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters including MC president Jameson, and club members Riddick, Styx, Colt, Bullet and Tick Tock. The requisite evil has many faces including Dyanara’s brother Tadeo Reyes, and the Cesar Dominguez.

SCARRED BY PAIN is a dark and gritty story of family and relationships; power and control; abuse, torture, payback and pain. The premise is edgy; the characters are animated and tragic.

My name is Crimson Syn, not really, but what fun is it to use my real name. Instead I’ll use my inner goddess’ name, it’s much more fun that way. I grew up in New York City where I had a wonderful education, loving parents and awesome friends. What more could a girl ask for?

I started writing at the age of sixteen. The first romance I read was Stephanie Laurens’ Devil’s Bride. Since then I have been influenced by dozens of flourishing romance authors and even more dashing and daring rogues. I must say it, but Fifty Shades was not my first erotic romance, nor did it influence me to start writing them. If you’ve never read Mary Balogh, Elizabeth Hoyt, Lisa Kleypas, Bertrice Small or A.N. Roquelaure’s Sleeping Beauty trilogy, then you’re missing out. Those were my sweet introductions to erotic romance, and boy were they hot.

So here I am, after reading so many wonderful stories, I have too many sinful tales of my own not to share. I like my alphas rough and possessive, and I have no shame in saying it or writing it. I had delightfully wicked teachers growing up, their books took me to new worlds and brought me new loves. So, I want to do the same for you. I want to indulge my readers in those steamy reads that will send them into the arms of dangerous alphas and deliciously sexy rogues, without leaving the confines of their nice warm bed.
