ABOUT THE BOOK from Goodreads: Release Date January 2013

From Goodreads: AWAKEN to a NEW WORLD What if your entire life had been nothing more than a few broken images? What if every time you closed your eyes, another memory was lost? … Then … What if one day, those memories began to resurface…? Coralie Collier has never questioned the elements in her life … Until now. Strange dreams and unexplained encounters begin to unravel the world around her. As images begin to rise to the surface, missing pieces to her life begin to fall into place. Could there be more to Coralie’s existence than what appears? Will Coralie be able to unlock the secrets to her past? And what lies within the truth? A new life … A new world … … Awaken…

*************************

REVIEW: AWAKEN is the first storyline in Christal M. Mosley’s new young adult fantasy series Empyreal. As a reader of many YA storylines I have found similarities and differences amongst a number of books and series and, in this particular novel, there are several similarities to The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare.

Coralie Collier has purposely been kept in the dark about her heritage. When dreams and nightmares become a living and breathing reality, her memories would suddenly disappear and there would be black holes of emptiness and confusion whenever Coralie tried to grasp at images and thoughts. Thinking they were trying to protect their daughter, Coralie’s parents have endeavored to keep their daughter’s true identity a secret. As the one True Empyreal Warrior-a direct descendent of the Angels- Coralie’s future has been determined since her birth.

There are secrets from Coralie’s past of which she has no knowledge. When part of the truth is finally revealed Coralie is stunned to realize that parts of her memory have purposely been removed for her own protection. But in the grand scheme of world domination and pure power, keeping Coralie’s destiny a secret from her was an error in judgment by all concerned. Coralie has not been prepared for the upcoming war between good and evil, and in doing so could risk the lives of those hoping to protect her.

As a reader, I was frustrated at times at the incomprehensible situation brought about by Coralie’s parent’s refusal to inform their daughter about her heritage and the upcoming battles. And when it came time to explain, it took forever and several chapters before an explanation was finally spoken. And in this, the explanation was not very clear. I had hoped that more detail surrounding the Empyreal history would have been revealed especially her connection to the past and potential powers. Perhaps in the second storyline, more history and background of the Empyreal will be revealed.

As I said earlier, the premise is similar to The Mortal Instruments in that the protagonists are descendants of angels; the hero and his sister are Coralie’s guardians and fight to rid the world of the demons; the evil are warriors gone rogue; kidnapped siblings; jilted lovers; and a young woman who has been secreted away from her destiny only to discover she is the key to everyone’s survival. I am not saying that this is a bad thing, but it was a similarity none the less. I suspect that the missing sibling will play a major role in the war between good and evil. And there is mention of several supernatural powers including vampires and werewolves, witches and warlocks and, the fae who may or may not have a storyline in the upcoming battles.

Overall, AWAKEN is an interesting and enjoyable storyline. If you are a fan of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments you will definitely see some similarities but you should also have no problem seeing the bigger story. I wish Christal M. Mosley all the best with the release of AWAKEN. I did have an issue with the author’s continuous use of ellipses ( ….) but it was explained to me that the protagonist is reticent and naïve, and is having some issues trying to explain herself or get her point across.

Protecting What’s His (Line of Duty #1) by Tessa Bailey-a review

PROTECTING WHAT’S HIS ( Line of Duty #1) by Tessa Bailey-a review

Protecting what's his

Amazon / Barnes and Noble / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 23, 2013

She’s running from the law, and the law wants her bad.

The opportunity was just too damn delicious for Ginger Peet to pass up. The purse full of money she finds—$50,000 to be exact—could give her and her teen sister the new start they need. So she grabs the cash, her gothy sibling, and their life-sized statue of Dolly Parton, and blows outta Nashville in a cloud of dust. Chicago, here we come…

Turns out, Chicago has some pretty hot cops. Hot, intense, naughty-lookin’ cops like Derek Tyler, who looks like he could eat a girl up and leave her begging for more. And more. Tempting as he is, getting involved with the sexy homicide lieutenant next door poses a teensy problem for a gal who’s on the lam. But one thing is certain—Derek’s onto her, and he wants more than just a taste.

And as far as he’s concerned, possession is nine-tenths of the law

*****************

REVIEW: PROTECTING WHAT’S HIS is the first storyline in Tessa Bailey’s new Line of Duty contemporary romance series. If you love a story with a heroine on the run and an alpha hero with a potty mouth during sex, Protecting What’s His is sure to please.

But one CAVEAT-if you are a fan of Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L.James and the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day you WILL recognize several overlapping scenarios. This is not to say that Protecting What’s His is a remake of either of these two series, but many of the situations are definitely not original in content and I recognized the similarity immediately.

Twenty three year old Ginger Peet is basically on the run. Setting up a new home in Chicago with her seventeen year old sister, Ginger endeavors to start a new life free from her drug addicted, crack-whore prostitute mother. But running into her sexy, new neighbor, a cop no less, puts Ginger on alert-she took a purse full of money from her mother and, she would be the number one suspect if her mother attempted to report the theft. There are things about her past that Ginger never wants anyone to know-especially to the man who has stolen her heart.

The relationship between Ginger and Derek is antagonistic in the beginning. Derek has lost a fellow police officer in the line of duty and meeting his noisy, albeit beautiful new neighbor, wasn’t in his plans. The pair continue to push each other’s proverbial buttons for a good portion of the storyline, but Derek knows, that at some point, Ginger will be his. Several confrontations will force Ginger to look at Derek in a different light but when the time comes to come clean about the theft, Ginger takes it upon herself to right the wrong and comes face to face with her mother’s troubled past.

PROTECTING WHAT’S HIS is an interesting and well-written storyline with humor, sexiness and a little bit of suspense. Derek talks a good game-rough and aggressive yet loving in the bedroom and, gentle when he needs to express his feelings and protect the woman he loves. Ginger’s seventeen year old sister is wise beyond her years, and she is the first to point out that Ginger and Derek should pull their heads out of their a$$ when it comes to their relationship and mutual attraction.

But be warned, the similarities to Fifty Shades of Grey and the Crossfire series are too obvious to ignore whether it was intentional or not. The difference- everything is wrapped up in one book and one storyline.

Katee Robert-Chasing Mrs. Right Guest Post and Book Tour

Katee Robert-Chasing Mrs. Right Guest Post and Book Tour

Guest Post black and purple
by Katee Robert

I’ll be the first to admit that when ereaders started showing up, I was screaming from the mountains that they could take my paper books from my cold, dead hands. I’m not particularly proud of that sentiment, but what can I say? I’m not good with change.

The last few years have brought a whole lot in the way of change, though, so I’ve learned to adapt. And guess what? I love my Nook like a love song. I’ll never give up my bookshelves full of the series I fangirl over, but ebooks have opened up an entirely new plane of opportunity.

You see, now new authors are only a button push away. Impulse purchasing is at an all-time high (for me, at least), which is really great. I’ve found countless authors now because I can justify spending $5 or under on a book that I might not like. It’s a whole different game from ordering a paperback book or doing to the bookstore to pick up one.

So are paper books going the way of the dodo bird? I don’t think so. There are far too many people out there like me who are incredibly OCD about their series. I don’t think ebooks cut into that, either—they enhance it. Because if I buy a new author on ebook and love their book? I’ll go buy the paperback as well so it can have a place on my shelf.

All in all, I think it’s safe to say that ebooks are here to stay, and I’m pretty happy about it.

Chasing Mrs. Right

Roxanne Stokes doesn’t believe in love. She does, however, believe in the sexy-as-sin stranger who literally knocks her off her feet in front of a nightclub. The chemistry sparking between them takes her breath away, and she’ll do anything to ease the pain in his eyes…until she realizes the handsome stranger is her best friend’s older brother who’s just come home from war.

Ian Walser had no idea the gorgeous woman he slept with the night of his homecoming party was his little sister’s best friend—or that she’d be gone before morning. Roxanne’s touch soothes him in a way nothing else can, and he’s not ready to walk away from that yet. Not when spending time with her gave Ian a glimpse of everything he’s ever wanted.

When his sister unwittingly pushes them together, he sees his chance. But convincing a woman who doesn’t believe in love that she’s his Mrs. Right might be harder than any mission Ian’s undertaken. Good thing this soldier likes a challenge…

Katee Roberts

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Katee Robert, learned to tell stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.

Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way—as it often does—and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she’d like to write a book and try to get published.

Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?

She now spends her time—when not lost in Far Reach worlds—playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

CHASING MRS. RIGHT (Come Undone #2) by Katee Robert-a review

Chasing Mrs. Right

Barnes and Noble / Amazon /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 25, 2013

It was only supposed to last one night…

Ian had no idea the sexy woman he took to his bed was his little sister’s best friend–or that she’d refuse to give him more than one night.

Good thing this soldier likes a challenge…

*******************

REVIEW: CHASING MRS. RIGHT is the second storyline in Katee Robert’s Come Undone contemporary romance series. This particular story focuses on former military soldier Ian Walser and party planner Roxanne who accidently meet at Ian’s welcome home party thrown by Ian’s sister Elle, whom we first met in Wrong Bed, Right Guy. The problem-Ian and Roxanne-do not know each other’s identity and pursue a hot and torrid one-night stand that will either see the couple heading into a relationship or into a downward spiral of lies and betrayal. When Elle finally realizes with whom she spent the night, she knows she has made a huge error in judgment. But when her best friend Elle begs Roxanne to help Ian through his emotional turmoil, Roxanne knows that she will probably lose her heart to the emotionally fragile man.

Chasing Mrs. Right takes the reader on a journey of healing and discovery. Returning from a tour of Afghanistan, Ian is having difficulty re-entering into society-nightmares, flashbacks, feelings of dread and an overwhelming need to run are only the tip of the ice-berg with the things that Ian must deal. But enter-Roxanne-the feisty party planner and his sister’s BFF who pulls no punches as she defends and protects the wounded warrior until he is able to confront his demons full on.

The reader is pulled in as Ian must deal with an overbearing and confrontational mother; a future brother-in-law he believes is connected to the mob; a sister whom he loves and wants to protect; and the woman with whom he is falling in love, but a woman who believes love belongs in fairy tales and romance novels. And one wrong move or word could send Ian spiraling out of control. Roxanne is the other half to his soul, but the reality of his situation forces Ian to push everyone away when he needs them the most.

CHASING MRS. RIGHT is an emotional look at the struggles of one man re-entering society after experiencing the horrors of war and the death of his friends. Katee Robert writes with passion, romance, sorrow and pain and, in the end we witness how the love of a woman helps Ian begin a journey of healing on his long road to emotional and personal recovery. The storyline has moments of humor, sorrow and romance, as well as both physical and sexual intimacy between our two leading characters.

Amanda Forester holds a PhD in clinical psychology and a Masters degree in theology.  As a psychologist, she has worked as a clinical researcher and a university instructor (what they call you when they don’t want to give you tenure).  None of which has anything to do with writing romance novels.  After trying for many years to stop the internal storylines floating around her head, she finally gave up and wrote one down.  Now when she is caught daydreaming and talking to herself she can just say, “I’m plotting a scene for my next novel,” which sounds so much better than, “I’m hallucinating and responding to internal stimuli.”Amanda lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family, three lazy house pets and one destructive puppy who is part yellow lab part tornado.  Amanda enjoys writing historical romance and splits her time between the rugged Highlands of medieval Scotland and the lively banter within the drawing rooms of Regency England.  She enjoys researching the history almost as much as the writing, and attempts to provide the reader with a glimpse of the historical reality, though usually without the fleas.  She enjoys sharing her passion for romance and history and loves hearing from readers.

LEGEND OF THE PANTERA series
by Alexandra Wright and Laura Wright
New Year. New World. New Species

Bayou Heat Trilogy

ABOUT THE SERIES: Hidden in the depths of the Louisiana bayous, the Pantera, have become little more than a legend to most humans. It’s rumored that in the ancient past twin sisters, born of magic, had created a sacred land and claimed it as their own. From that land was born creatures who were neither human or animal, but a mixture of the two. Faster and stronger than humans, they have hyper acute senses, and when surrounded by the magic of the Wildlands they’re capable of shifting into pumas. It was also whispered that they possess other gifts. Telepathy, witchcraft, immortality, and the ability to produce a musk that could enthrall mere mortals. Mothers warned young girls never to roam alone near the swamps, convinced that they would be snatched by the Pantera, while young men were trained to avoid hunting anywhere near the protected Wildlands. Not that the warnings were always successful. What girl didn’t dream of being seduced by a gorgeous, mysterious stranger? And what young man didn’t want to try his skill against the most lethal predators?

As the years passed, however, the sightings of the Pantera became so rare that the rumors faded to myths. Most believed the entire species had become extinct. Sadly they weren’t entirely mistaken…

Bayou Heat trilogy 2

Available for .99cents:  Amazon/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO

Release Date:  April 11, 2013

BAYOU HEAT (Bayon and Jean/Baptiste) picks up immediately following the events of the previous storyline. The Pantera are a puma-shifting, Wildlands living group of inhabitants who have been cursed with infertility with the possibility of extinction. But now that Raphael’s human mate is expecting the first cub in over fifty years, everything goes from bad to worse, when it appears black magic is being used against the Panthera to prevent the continuation of the species.

BAYON is the third storyline in the Bayou Heat series. Bayon is a Hunter. On the search for the source of black magic affecting Ashe and her unborn child, he will soon discover that the woman he long thought was missing and dead, has been held captive for nearly twenty five years. Freeing his would be mate reveals plenty of information especially when she reveals that the people who had set her up were two of their very own shifters.

JEAN-BAPTISTE is the fourth storyline and a little more complicated. Jean-Baptiste is having difficulty controlling his cat so he resorts to getting tatooed with specially infused ink that keeps his baser instincts at bay. But when he is sent on assignment to retrieve a voodoun priestess, he is beyond words when a Suit is sent along for the ride-Genevieve Burel-a top negotiator in the arts of persuasion. Only this time, the only one needing persuading is Genevieve herself when Jean-Baptiste’s cat claims to have found its mate

BAYOU HEAT –Bayon and Jean-Baptiste is another welcome addition to the continuing saga of the Pantera shifters in the Wildlands of Louisiana. The sexual chemistry in each of the storylines will make you growl and purr like the cat we all want to be. Laura Wright and Alexandra Ivy bring together a secretive species that is trying to stave off extinction at the hands of curse brought about by sibling rivalry taken to the extreme.
