**It’s a simple formula: Magical power equals political power…**

Sparks are flying between researcher Anne Crosby and no less than nine men–but it’s not what you think. Whenever these nine amnesiacs touch anyone, electrical mayhem results. More surprising: all of them have dust instead of blood in their veins, even though they’re quite alive. It’s Anne’s job to track down who and what these men are, even though she takes a dim view of the supernatural.

Her research takes Anne to Russia and the discovery of the devastating magical source behind the former Soviet Union’s power–a source the resurrected KGB wants back. Anne must stop them, and they’ll do anything to stop her.

Covet (In This Life #2) by Terri Herman-Ponce: a review

COVET (In This Life #2) by Terri Herman-Ponce: a review

Covet

Amazon

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release date March 25, 2013

COVET is the story of threatening secrets, risky espionage, and one man’s discovery that instinct can be more powerful than reason.

All professional soldier David Bellotti has to do is steal a wallet from drug lord Zev Sahin. A simple operation to snag the key card to Sahin’s compound and hand the card over to the woman who hired him. But when David finds a photo inside the wallet of his lover, Lottie, kissing another man, he discovers his life isn’t what it seems and that the people in it are keeping dangerous information from him.

Ex-lover, Monica, is carrying the biggest secret of all. Determined to get David back into her life, her secret will become her strongest weapon against him. But protecting his love for Lottie won’t be easy for David. As images of Lottie’s murder start surfacing, David realizes he’s reliving ancient memories from over ten thousand years ago—from a life that’s linked to Lottie and Monica now, and that will once again end in Lottie’s death if he can’t find a way to stop it.

***********************

REVIEW: COVET is the second storyline in Terri Herman-Ponce’s continuing saga of past life regression and the complications it reveals.

In This Life (Book #1) centered on Lottie Morgan as she journeyed between present day and flashing back to ancient Egypt where her life begins to unravel. But the past continues to haunt Lottie only this time, her lover David is along for the ride.

Covet is told from two POVs. David Bellotti is the main POV with third person narration to keep the reader abreast of what is happening. David’s life begins to fall apart when his past life regressions reveal more than he ever thought possible. And like reincarnation, there are people from his past willing to make amends, seek revenge or continue where their past lives left off. Only this time, the number of players is much larger and involves present day criminals and suspects. And his recent past, as in twelve years earlier, will come knocking on his front door to add further complications to an already uneasy peace in his relationship with Lottie.

Terri writes an amazing and fascinating storyline of suspense, mystery, betrayal, hatred and love-a love that transcends the ages and a hatred that follows with every incarnation and life. And like the first storyline in the series (In This Life), Covet is fast paced, well written and will keep you on the edge of your proverbial seat. Many new players with many more potential storylines and a hint of a possible betrayal from someone too close to the action had me wondering where it was all going to lead. Terri’s imagination crosses the distance of time as do her characters and stories.

Wrecked

Amazon / Barnes and Noble / The Book Depository

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release April 2, 2013

In the nineties, Abigale Applegate and Zach Barnes were the most beloved sitcom child stars in the world. Then they grew up and left Hollywood behind…

Whatever happened to Abigale Applegate?

She’s been wondering the same thing.

With her Hollywood dreams long gone, Abigale now has a nice, neat, uncomplicated life—until the day her perfect fiancé needs to talk. Dumped, a little more than shattered, and totally confused, Abigale turns to Zach, her best friend since forever, to help her pick up the pieces. He does it with a gift—a copy of Wreck This Journal. She can vent her frustrations, and sketch out a new plan. Zach just hopes he’s part of it. Because he’s been in love with Abigale his entire life.

When the journal falls into Zach’s hands, he discovers Abigale wants a new man. And fast. Nothing more than a hot distraction. Zach has a strategy, too. He’s going to be that man. It’s his last chance. Abigale might be out to shake up her life, but Zach’s out to reinvent it. Now, all he has to do is convince Abigale that life can go as planned

*********************

REVIEW: Wrecked is a storyline about two friends-Abigale and Zach-who have known each other-forever. Brought together as child stars headlining the sitcom KATE and NATE Abigale and Zach each left the Hollywood lifestyle behind when the show was cancelled. Zach went on to do bit parts but finally went back to school and pursued a successful career as a tattoo artist. Abigale filed for emancipation from her overbearing, money-hungry mother at seventeen and fled.

Abigale is one of those people who made lists- a bucket list-of sorts where she would list what she wanted to accomplish before she reached the age of thirty-marriage, children, love: and Abby thought she found the perfect man until the day he revealed he wanted KATE-the star-and not Abby-the caterer.

Throughout the story, Shiloh reveals a lifelong friendship that developed between Zach and Abby-a friendship that was more for Zach. And like many storylines, Abby was oblivious to Zach’s feelings. Zach was always there for Abby and when her fiancé dropped the bomb, Zach was there to pick up the pieces. He offered Abby a personal journal to write about her feelings, her needs and, her wants-Wreck This Journal-and Zach soon discovered that Abby wanted a torrid affair. Zach was going to make sure-he-was part of that affair.

The storyline is about two people who love each other and the realization that there is more. Everyone knows that Zach has loved and has been in love with Abby since they were children but Abby has worn ‘virtual blinders’ to Zach’s affections and feelings. Not wanting to push Abby away Zach has waited on the sidelines –forever-hoping one day that Abby would open her eyes and see the man who will promise her the world.

The secondary characters are colorful and in many ways an integral part of the storyline. From Abby’a overbearing and controlling mother to Zach’s extended family of loving brothers and co-workers at ‘Steel Ink’. There are several potential future storylines, especially as it concerns Zach’s brother and I hope Shiloh has many ideas flowing through her pen.

WRECKED is a wonderful, sometimes heartbreaking, head-nodding look at two people who belong together and the eye opening realization that everything you have always wanted may be sitting next to you, watching the late night movie, sharing tears and buttered popcorn. Congratulations to Shiloh Walker and WRECKED.

He’d die before danger touched his son.

He’d figured he had two or three days after Jamie’s call before he had to make his move. The news had finally hit the Internet, his Google Alerts filling his inbox. Oregon school bus. Missing children. Kidnapping.

The names of his schoolmates.

Each one had burned in his brain for twenty years. Their names and their faces. It’d been a shock to see their old school pictures online. And his own picture from that year. Short hair, innocent smile, so trusting…. He’d avoided school picture day after that year, citing his scars, telling his parents that he didn’t want anyone to see pictures of him.

Over the last twenty-four hours he’d been glued to the Internet, reading every word he could find on the grisly discoveries. He’d shed tears over the descriptions of the tiny skulls, picturing them as the friends he’d once played with. Kendall with her long black hair and lisp. Jeremy with the lopsided grin and mass of freckles.

Why was he the one still alive?

Memories had spilled over as he studied the pictures. And he was there. In the hellhole again. Reliving it all. The man’s lifeless pale eyes, the skin so white, Chris could almost see through it. The ghost man had released the youngest girls first. The other kids had cried and begged to be next. He’d seen Kendall leaving with her hand clasped in the ghost man’s, a wide smile on her face as they climbed the ladder out of the stinking hole. Had it been a gift that they never knew each other’s fate?

His stomach heaved and he felt sweat start at his temples. Breathe. In. Out. In. Damn it. This was a certain sign there’d be nightmares tonight. Fine. He simply wouldn’t sleep. Laughter pealed as Brian was knocked over by the dog and it vigorously licked him in the face.
Old Juan cricked his neck to look at the two tussling on the ground. “That’s a good boy you’ve got there.” Brown eyes cannily read Chris’ face. “Parents do anything for their kids, yes?”

Chris nodded and tried to swallow the ball in his throat. “Anything.”

Prophecy Girl by Cecily White – a Review

Prophecy Girl by Cecily White – a Review

Prophecy Girl

Link to order Prophecy Girl: Amazon / Barnes & Noble / The Book Depository / Kobo

Prophecy Girl by Cecily White is her first book in her YA Angel Academy trilogy.  The premise of a young girl attending an Academy of children born from angels, who are considered Guardians in training.  Ami is our heroine, and she is Lucifer’s daughter.

Ami spends her nights with her best friend Lisa, looking for demons for their training practice.  Lisa keeps bugging her to get herself a date for the upcoming dance, much to Ami annoyance, as she is not interested in any of the boys at the academy.  But that changes the moment she meets Jackson (Jack), the new head trainer, whom she immediately finds herself attracted to, and feels the sparks.  Jack tries to keep his distance from Ami, not explaining why, but his avoidance seems to be based on fear.

Cecily White has a created a great character in Ami, who is funny, sarcastic, independent,  and simply fun to follow in this exciting story.  Jack turns out to be an excellent character also, and meant for Ami, but destiny will rise up and keep the two apart.  But Ami is not one to step back, and she is determined to win Jack.  What she doesn’t know, is she is dangerous to him.  But that will not stop either of them to connect.

The story involves a prophecy that Ami is destined to fill, and Jack could be in danger.  We follow the two of them on an adventure that has them on the run, and their friends protecting them.  We get to meet some cool characters, like the kids at the academy or Jack’s friends, such as a vampire and a werewolf.  Though this was a fun read, make no mistake, it is exciting story, filled with danger, lots of battles, twists, surprises along the way, with lives in danger of being lost.

Will Ami fulfill the prophecy that she so does not want to do?  Will Jack protect Ami, or will he die doing so?  Who will survive the final battle?  So many questions, and since this is spoiler free, you need to read this book to find the answers.  Early on, it was a bit slow, as we meet Ami and Lisa, but quickly it became a fun read. The story took a major turn in the last 1/3 of the book, and I was unable to put it down, since a blink could cause you to lose another revelation.   Cecily White has done a fantastic job with this book, her characters are refreshing and you find yourself liking most of them.  I look forward to the next book of this series.

THE HIGHLANDER’S ACCIDENTAL BRIDE by Cathy MacRae-a review

the Highlander's Accidental Bride

Amazon

ABOUT THE BOOK: RELEASED February 27, 2013

Chaos reigns between the Scott and Barde clans in 14th century Scotland. To end the generation’s long feud, King Robert II of Scotland decrees EADEN, LAIRD SCOTT, and Lady Miriam Barde wed with all haste. When marriage negotiations break down, King Robert threatens Eaden with the loss of lands and title. Forced to take matters into his own hands, the laird kidnaps his bride, only to find the young woman he mistakenly drags to his marriage bed is not Laird Barde’s daughter, but her lady companion.

MARY MARSH fights for her freedom from the laird and the unwanted marriage, refusing to accept her new life as Lady Scott. Realizing his error, Laird Scott develops an attachment to the feisty young woman he has accidentally married. Can he win her heart and convince her she is more than just a ‘duty’ to him? Or will the bond forged between the lady’s companion and the laird be destroyed by secrets and the feud that will not be laid to rest?

**********************

REVIEW: THE HIGHLANDER’S ACCIDENTAL BRIDE by Cathy MacRae is a storyline written in the highlander historical romance genre. The story begins as Laird Scott and the woman he presumes to be Lady Miriam Barde are forced to wed to ensure Scott retains possession of his lands. But when the Laird discovers that the woman he kidnapped and to whom he is now married is not the Barde’s daughter, the couple must endeavor to keep secret their accidental marriage or fight one another for freedom at all costs. If the truth is revealed the Laird will lose everything including the woman with whom he is falling in love. The anguish and heartbreak of knowing she is not the woman to whom the Laird was supposed to wed, will force Mary into a lifestyle she has only experienced from the sidelines in her former life.

The reader is taken on a journey with two people wanting something in their lives but neither one knows where to look. As the storyline develops we watch as Laird Scott softens towards the woman he now calls wife, but in doing so places his new wife at risk for retaliation by his former lover. And Mary will soon discover that a woman she wants to call a friend will set plans in motion to separate Mary from the Laird on a permanent basis.

Mary and Eaden’s (Laird Scott) relationship is one built on need as well as forced circumstances. When the Laird approaches the King for a divorce, he becomes suspicious when the King refuses his requests and demands to meet the new Lady Scott. Something about Scott’s new wife is familiar to the King. Laird’s only alternative is to seduce his young bride as only a husband knows how but when betrayal forces Mary to seek out a former friend, a declaration of war will pit Laird Scott against the man Mary once considered family.

The Highlander’s Accidental Bride is a wonderful story of heartbreak and loss, love and hate. Cathy MacRae gives us a fascinating peek into the lives and loves of the historical highland warriors. If you are a fan of historical highlander storylines, The Highlander’s Accidental Bride is the perfect read.
