First Surrender

And he’s about to make his claim…

Hayden’s struggled to keep his attraction to the beautiful, dark haired casino chef a secret. He’s not good enough for her. But when an attacker targets Sierra, Hayden’s protective instincts go into overdrive. With the attraction between them burning out of control, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her and convince her they’re meant to be together.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: FIRST SURRENDER is the first storyline in the Red Stone Security (RSS) spinoff series The Serafina: Sin City by Katie Reus. By way of connection, Katie has spun off the series with Wyatt and Iris Christiansen from book six (Breaking Her Rules) in her RSS series thus giving the series a sense familiarity. Wyatt owns The Serafina Hotel and Iris is the head of security. First Surrender is the introductory storyline and the premise and feel is similar to her RSS series.

The storyline focuses on Sierra, the head chef for The Serafina Hotel and Hayden-the man who has wanted Sierra since the first night they met. Their backstory is similar to many of Katie’s novels where the leading couple has known each other in the past or have a recent history. But for Sierra, who has loved Hayden from afar, she has no idea that the man has feelings or wants something more. And in true romantic suspense fashion, Sierra will become the target of an obsessive stalker and Hayden will use everything in his power to keep her safe and in his arms.

Sierra is a strong young woman who does not put up with Hayden’s alpha male instincts and contrast that to the Hayden’s overzealous need to protect Sierra-there is a bit of a power play both in public and in the bedroom. But in the end, it is all about the love and sensuality between two people who have been dancing around each other for over a year.

The novella is a quick read; fast paced friends to lovers story of suspense and romance, and there is never any hesitation between our leading couple. They know what they want and there is no holding back when Hayden makes his feelings known therefore the relationship is very quick to develop. The sex scenes are hot and sensual, romantic and sweet.

If you are a fan of Katie Reus’s Red Stone Security series than you will love her new Sin City series. There is a familiarity to the storyline and one that sets the series in a new direction.

The Blood She Betrayed

The Blood She Betrayed
By Cheryse Durrant
Release Date: July 2013

About the book:

To save her kingdom, she must betray her blood…

Thrust into the technology-driven Earthlands via magical mists, Shahkara is forced to rely on Max McCalden to help find the ancient Elnara death lantern, her homeworld’s last chance of survival against the heart-devouring Taloners.

Max has his own problems, but nothing prepares him for this fugitive warrior’s razor-sharp talons.

Shahkara longs for love, but as deadly enemies attack at every turn, will her heart-lust for Max destroy them both? Or will she find the strength to free both worlds from a threat more horrific than the demons that share her blood?

••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: The Blood She Betrayed is book one of The Heart Hunters Series by Cheryse Durrant. Travelling through the mists, Shahkara, a half-Taloner princess, is sent to modern day Earth to find the Elnara, or death lantern, which is her world’s only hope to stop the Taloners, which is pure evil that eats human hearts. Thrown into a time where she knows nothing of the world around her, Shahkara comes to rely on Max McCalden, a billionaire’s son who happens to be on the Taloner’s hit list. Max has quite a few issues of his own and it seems that danger follows Shahkara and Nick everywhere they go. But the heart lust that she feels for him is slowly over taking her. Will she be able to stop herself from repeating her past to complete the quest that she has been set on?

Shahkara is a strong-willed warrior princess that will not give up on her mission of saving her world. The reason she is so determined, while touched on lightly, is a heart-wrenching story of love and sadness. The reason is what fuels Shahkara to help her world – her payment for what she has once done. I found Shahkara to be so vulnerable and almost lost in the modern Earthlands, yet determined to achieve her quest. Strong and of high morals Shah slowly allows Max into her heart. Max, while a rich billionaire’s son, was sweet and caring – and someone that you want to get to know better. Shahkara’s interactions with Max while at times comical only increased the bond they built throughout their struggles.

This is a story of legends and of myths. Of mystical worlds and modern nightmares. Culminating in an epic collision of all!. The time honored story of good versus evil – one that will leave you reeling and craving more.

There is nothing more magical than reading about characters who change each other’s lives.

These are heroes and heroines who have the power – by destiny or nature – to inspire that person on the next step of their journey, whether it’s shaking away a dark past or saving the world from evil.

In my favourite fairytale, Beauty & the Beast, the prince (or Rumplestiltskin, if you’re faithful to Once Upon a Time) was lost to darkness until Belle’s love and selflessness shaped and inspired him in new ways (or exchange these characters for Catherine and Vincent, if you’re faithful to the 1987 or 2012 TV series).
With my debut novel, The Blood She Betrayed, I never set out to create characters who would change one another but from my very first chapters, the dynamics emerged: Max had what exiled warrior princess Shahkara needed to move on from her dark and haunting past, while Shahkara had what the wealthy but directionless Max needed to grow and become the man of his destiny.

In my debut Heart Hunters novel, Max has been living an empty existence since the brutal murder of his mother and brother, and can no longer tolerate his billionaire father’s manipulative ways but sees no way out.

Shahkara has come to Earth to find the death lantern that will save her kingdom, but she is haunted by her past, her half-demon self and the death of her lover.
Their personas and energies are a perfect foil for one another – Shahkara gives Max purpose and something to believe in, a genuine companion in his insincere world, while Max helps Shahkara realise she is still human, and deserves to be loved as a human, despite her demon blood and deadly, flesh-ripping talons.
Like all romantic couples, they face challenges before their Happily Ever After, but it is their character and courage that enables them to fight through these deadly challenges and save their worlds.

Long after I’ve read a book, after the plotline is forgotten, it’s the characters that remain burning in my heart. Sometimes it’s only an image or a quote. Often it’s what that character stands for and how they helped shape other characters in that story.

I hope readers remember this of Max and Shahkara, long after The Blood She Betrayed is collecting dust on a bookshelf or tablet.

“The Blood She Betrayed is unique. Shahkara is one of the most engaging female role models I’ve seen in a long time and the plot is full of ingenious twists, turns and surprises.” – LJ Smith, author of The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle

Shahkara is a splendid protagonist who captured my heart from the first words she spoke – LJ Smith

The Spy Word BlueBOOK 1.5 – The Spy Wore Blue

.99cent Deal at Amazon: Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk / KOBO /

DESCRIPTION; Release Date August 6, 2013

An exciting new novella in the popular Lord and Lady Spy series. Blue, an elite spy, tracks an assassin to Naples and the theater where his estranged wife performs. As he falls in love with his Helena again, Blue races to apprehend the assassin before he destroys them both.

REVIEW

The Spy Wore Blue is a novella based on a spy we met in the first book. Agent Blue.

Blue and Helena are married, although they have been estranged for quite some time. Blue was overly dedicated to his work as a spy and had little time for a wife, and Helena performed in the opera house when she wasn’t drowning her sorrows in a bottle of gin.

Blue has a new assignment that takes him back to his wife. Much to the others desire (or lack there of), they need to endure each others company for the time being as an assassin is out there waiting to strike. Soon enough, these two are falling in love once again, sharing some steamy moments between the sheets, bantering back and forth and ultimately providing an emotional roller coaster for the reader.

I have to say, this was a amazing novella. It is very hard for an author to develop characters, provide a love story packed with action and make it all believable in such a short amount of pages. Let me tell you, Shana Galen mastered this! 😉

Even more shocking, her neglectful husband is suddenly very attentive—quite the jealous type—and apparently there is much more to him than she ever knew

REVIEW

LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. Once again we are swept away in another action packed book by Shana Galen. This amazing author can sure write a great book .. great SERIES!

Lady Elinor is fed up living in a frozen marriage and has vowed to do something about it. While she loves her daughters and all they bring to her life, she craves more. Elinor craves adventure. Slowly, she begins to break the rules of polite society by attending balls on her own and conspiring to have an affair with a rakish man and just generally stirring the pot.

Baron Winslow Keating (Winn) is a spy who has to do one more mission. He realizes that his family has suffered with his current occupation and if he doesn’t make amends soon he risks losing then. When he overhears his wife’s desire to have an affair he sees red. Determined not to lose his family, Winn turns on the charm and begins to seduce his wife. In the midst of seduction, Elinor is receiving the adventure she so desperately craves (apparently spy life is exciting) and opens her heart once more. In turn, Winn is coming to fall in love with his wife, gain trust and love with his daughters and ultimately living the life he now wants.

We see a return of the antagonist Fonce (he was the bad guy in the first book), and an appearance by Lord and Lady Smythe (loved that) in this book. As with the first one, there is never a dull moment and these two really make an interesting couple. Will Winn put spy life on the mantle and finally make his family his priority, or will he lose all??? Get reading!

This is my first experience with Shana Galen and I want MORE! Her writing is absolutely right up my alley and she always keeps it fresh, making me want to flip through quickly so I can enjoy the next hurdle our couples face. She writes hot scenes, ensures that her leading lady and man have serious chemistry, jams in all kind of action, provides witty dialogue, draws you in with mystery and suspense and creates believable characters that you can’t help but fall in love with! I will ABSOLUTELY be reading more of her work!

HAPPY READING! 🙂

Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon – a Dual Review

Description:
Just when you thought doomsday was over…

Centuries ago Acheron saved the human race by imprisoning an ancient evil bent on absolute destruction. Now that evil has been unleashed and it is out for revenge.

As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasn’t always been on his brother’s side. They’ve spent more centuries going at each other’s throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother, but only if he’s willing to trade his life and future for Acheron’s.

The Atlantean goddess of Wrath and Misery, Bethany was born to right wrongs. But it was never a task she relished.

Until now.

She owes Acheron a debt that she vows to repay, no matter what it takes. He will join their fellow gods in hell and nothing is going to stop her.

But things are never what they seem, and Acheron is no longer the last of his line. Styxx and Acheron must put aside their past and learn to trust each other or more will suffer.

Yet it’s hard to risk your own life for someone who once tried to take yours, even when it’s your own twin, and when loyalties are skewed and no one can be trusted, not even yourself, how do you find a way back from the darkness that wants to consume the entire world? One that wants to start by devouring your very soul?

Marcie’s Review:
One box of kleenex, complete with red puffy eyes and sore nose, multiple cups of chamomile tea with honey, and a couple of Tylenols I finally finished Styxx.  After reading Acheron I never thought Sherrilyn Kenyon would be able to put me through another emotional ringer like Ash’s book did, but she proved me wrong.  She put me through the emotional wringer once again and then some. I am completely spent after reading this book.  I don’t think I have any tears left in me to cry.  I cried both tears of sorrow and joy, screamed in outrage, laughed at some of the lighter moments, and numerous times I wanted to reach into the book and throat punch both Estes and Apollo, then gut them and leave them to bleed out for what they did to Styxx. I’m not too bitter towards these two am I’m? (evil laughter rings out)

When Ms. Kenyon coined the phrase You Don’t Know Styxx, she hit the nail on the head, for we certainly do not know who Styxx truly is.  I am so glad Styxx decided to stand up for himself and speak to Ms. Kenyon to have his story told, for it was a story worth telling for her readers.  I just wish he would’ve spoken up sooner, this way I wouldn’t have disliked him for so long.  After reading his book I now see how very wrong I was about him.  Styxx is an amazing character, one who is worthy to stand at Acheron’s side and be the brothers they always should have been.  In Styxx’s story we really get to see everything that happened to split the twins up and wreck total and complete havoc on their innocent lives.  Had the gods not interfered the way they had none of this would have happened to either of them.  Both Styxx and Acheron suffered horrendous acts of brutality against them as they were growing up, but thanks to Apollymi wanting to ensure her son was protected, poor Styxx wound up having to feel everything Ash went through on top of his own pain and abuse.  However, no matter what happened to both brothers, Styxx still managed to somehow try and see the bright side of things, and continue to love his brother, even though everyone else was trying to turn them against each other.  I don’t know how he managed to endure what he did, if it were me I would have tried to find a loophole and do myself in a heck of a lot sooner.  Styxx somehow found an inner strength to endure and muscle on.

As hard as it was to read the abusive parts to Styxx’s story I muscled on, because I knew it was through all the horrible stuff done to both he and Ash that I would learn what I needed to learn about just who Styxx really is.  I’m so glad that I did and didn’t skip over any part of his story. If I had I would never have learned that Styxx has a heart of gold, and the only thing he ever wanted was to have his brother at his side and be loved like everyone else wants to be.  Not only does Styxx have a heart of gold, and wears it on his sleeve, but he also has the heart of a warrior, and no matter how the odds were stacked against him, he never once backed down, but instead found a way to preserve through it all.  If I had to pick someone to be my champion it would be Styxx. (shhh, don’t tell Acheron as he’s been my favourite DH forever)  However, I have enough room in my heart to cherish both brothers so I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.  😉

Through all the horrors and abuse we see Styxx subjected too, Kenyon manages to write an absolutely wonderful and loving romance between Styxx and Bethany.  I absolutely loved reading their scenes together, watching Styxx come to trust and love Bethany and be able to forget about everything else but her when they are together.  The love they have for each other oozes off the pages and makes you feel so much happier and light hearted after all the pain we read about. When it comes to happily ever afters, no one writes them better then Kenyon.  Yes there is always much heartache, torture, and abuse that happens to our hero, but in the end Kenyon manages to skillfully balance it with a tender and loving romance.  Without everything Styxx went through, he would not have come across Bethany, and would never have known what true love really is and just what you would do to hold onto it, no matter what.   Speaking of love, another part of the book I enjoyed was the relationship between Styxx and Galen that Kenyon created.  Galen treated Styxx like a son and loved him as such.  Styxx came to love and depend on Galen like a son does a father, and I was glad to see Styxx had someone else on his side besides Bethany.

Along with the love story between Bethany and Styxx, and the father/son relationship between Galen and Styxx, we also get to see Acheron and how it affected his attitude towards Styxx.  As much as I love my Acheron, I will admit that there were a few times in the book where I wanted to slap him upside the head, and tell him, “stop being an idiot already and listen to Styxx”. Yes Acheron was dealt a raw deal and suffered greatly, but like Kenyon herself said, there are two sides to every story. Ash owed it to Styxx to hear him out and find out the truth of what happened to his brother too.  When he finally realizes he doesn’t have all the details or the full truth, my heart broke for him and Styxx and what they were missing out on all these years.  Watching Ash try to make up for 11000 yrs of suffering to Styxx and try to reconcile was something I’ve been waiting for, and I absolutely loved watching the brothers start to trust each other again and forge new bonds.  This was one of my highlights in the whole book. Another highlight for me was the friendship that sprung up between Styxx and Urian. Urian is a character I’ve been dying to learn more about and let me tell you, we learned plenty.  I won’t say what, but it was a gem and a total “are you kidding me moment”.  I never saw it coming, but was happy with the result.  Styxx and Urian did provide many of the lighter, funnier moments of the book with their wit and wicked sense of humour, and I hope to see more of it down the road in future books.

There were many highs and lows in the book that I absolutely loved, and others I didn’t.  Like I said earlier, there were many times I wanted to reach into the book and cause bodily harm to Estes and Apollo, along with a few others, but they were the two main evils who had it out for Styxx.  The way Kenyon tells Styxx’s story is astounding and I couldn’t have asked for a better story for Styxx.  He truly is a hero, worthy of having his HEA and finally, finally having everything he ever wanted in life.  There were a few ‘aha’ moments in the book that I refuse to spoil for you, Urian for example. If you want to find out what they are then you have to read this book for yourself. Trust me you won’t be disappointed.  Along with the ‘aha’ moments, there was also a reunion of sorts with some of our favourite DH characters who come together near the end of the book to add to the action packed, kick ass ending. I loved seeing some of my all time favourites come back to help out, and have to wonder where Ms. Kenyon is going in terms of a couple of characters, one character particularly(she who I hate to type her name, LOL, heifer goddess ring a bell?) Yes I’m the type who is always reading between the lines trying hard to figure out any clues/tidbits/breadcrumbs that Ms. Kenyon likes to toss our way from time to time.  There were a few near the end that have me wondering and I can’t wait to see where she takes us next.  All I know is I want more Styxx and Acheron and hope we will continue to see them in upcoming stories helping out where needed.

Until then, happy reading my DH brethren, 😉

Vickie’s Review

Let me start this review by saying that the way Styxx was written was absolutely brilliant. To think of sitting down and undertaking something of this magnitude makes me realize, even more so, how absolutely talented Kenyon is. Not to mention that everyone’s beloved Acheron is portrayed in a different light. That, in itself, had to make her heart beat out of her chest, because I know it did mine. And, to say “timing is everything” is probably the biggest understatement EVER.

Styxx was written to coincide with the timing of Acheron’s book. We all know the horrible things that happened to Ash and how his beloved sister, Ryssa, championed him at every turn. Kenyon has done a wonderful job at letting us see what actually happened. After all, to quote Ash, “There are always three sides to every event – yours, theirs, and the truth that lay somewhere in the middle”……………

Part One of this book retells the story of Styxx and Acheron’s childhood. To see how close they were as children was heart warming. They tried their best to protect each other. “Brothers. Forever and always”. Styxx was never allowed to have a normal childhood. His father, King Xerxes, was after all grooming his heir. Styxx was denied the simple joys of childhood, except for the stolen moments with Ash. But, once Ash was sent away with Uncle Estes, things were never the same. For either of them. Unbeknownst to anyone other than Styxx himself, he had been born with certain abilities that tortured him endlessly, both physically and emotionally. Until he meets his beautiful Bethany. For the first time since Ash was taken away, Styxx finds peace and someone who loves him for him. Just as happiness eluded Ash in his early years, it also eludes Styxx as he is called to lead their troops into war. War is a nasty business, but add to the mix the Gods from opposing Pantheons, and nasty doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Once Styxx and his troops are recalled from a war in which they were winning, a series of events are set into motion that changes everything. Styxx just cannot catch a break. We all know what happened to Ryssa from Ash’s book and the wrath that Appolymi rains down on Archon and the other Gods who betrayed her. But, until you read this story, you have no idea just how profoundly Styxx plays into everything that happens. Be it with the Gods, King Xerxes, Uncle Estes or even Ash.

Part Two of the book begins in the year 2004, and if you think all of the heartache is over, you’d be sorely mistaken. Styxx has been in “exile” for centuries. Enter the Gods who want to take over the world, and, oh yeah, kill Ash. And who better to aid them, but Ash’s twin brother. Again, through a series of events, things are set into motion that lead to one of the most exciting climaxes that I have read in fiction. Of course, we have our preconceived notions. These are romance novels after all. But I’m telling you, I was worried. She did an absolutely brilliant job (have I said that already??) in drawing me in as never before. Not even in Ash’s book did I feel as vested in a character as I did with Styxx. You, without a doubt, will cry for him and you will cheer him on. But, more than anything, you will understand what a travesty his life has truly been. I know, I know……. How can anyone have it worse than Ash had it?? Well, you’ll have to read and find out, because I promise you, you will sob both tears of sorrow and tears of joy for him.

The one thing that I will say about Styxx’s book is that, in my humble opinion, we could have done without at least half of Part One. The atrocities committed against Styxx were just that: atrocious. But, enough already. I had a really hard time with that part of the book. It took me several days to read it, just as it did with Ash’s book. BUT, once I got to Part Two, I could not turn the pages fast enough. I laughed, I cried…. I even did the ugly cry a couple of times, or three. There are things that happen in this book that will leave you absolutely breathless. Revelations made that will make you gasp, but, oh my sweet Jesus, what a ride!! Well done Sherrilyn Kenyon, very very very well done.

REVIEW

3 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Against the Ropes by Sarah Castille is a contemporary romance with elements of Erotic/BDSM. Sarah is a new author to me, so I really had no idea what to expect. The premise of this story however, really grabbed me and so I decided to dive right on in!

We meet our heroine Makayla right away. She has taken on an under the table job to sell tickets at an underground fighting event. Sarah works at a hospital full time throughout the day in medical admin, and as a EMT on the side. She is a smart cookie if not a little naive, is quick witted, hates violence and tends to get nauseated at the most inopportune moments. Honestly, she is an average girl trying to make ends meet in the best way she knows how.

While selling tickets, she is conned into a conversation with out hero “Torment” Max. Max happens to be one of the top contenders in this underground fighting ring and happens to own the place that hosts many of these fights. OH .. and he is super rich by day as some kind of business executive. He fights because he truly loves it. He is also seriously attracted to Makayla right away and comes on super strong (actually it was kind of creepy how strong). LOL

Max decides to hire Makayla to provide medical attention ring side to his fighters. Max also wants her close and ensures everyone knows that she belongs to him. Makayla is completely lusting for Max, but thinks his “bully you into loving me” is a little much, so she holds him back at an arms length until she can’t fight her attraction to him anymore.

Through some pretty tough battle of wills, some nasty fighting, misunderstandings, hot nooky, experimental nooky, these two try to find their way to each other. However, Makayla is not sure if she can live in this underground fighting world that Max seems to love. She also isn’t sure if she can live with the fact that he is filthy rich and thinks that gives him reason to take what he wants, forget about anyone else’s feeling.

Okay … I had really high hopes for this book. I mean hot underground fighting, all that testosterone flowing. HELLO, SIGN ME UP! LOL Well unfortunately this read like a very, unbelievable, immature attempt of hot erotic romance with some BDSM elements. This book has potential to be a great book, but the fluency wasn’t there and it came across choppy. I felt somewhat disengaged and apathetic through most of it. If you have read my reviews before, you know I love my smut and tend to gush if I really am smitten with a book. While I want to do so here, I really can’t!

To end a review on a small negative note is not my style, so now I will tell you what I loved. THE HUMOUR! I actually chuckled out loud at some of antics and conversations. These two can text me into stitches as they banter back and forth. It’s rather amusing. The whole premise of underground fighting .. LOVE THAT! The fight scenes were vivid and the kind of fighting used was well researched. Some of the sex scenes were hot, and I love me a hot sex scene!

Overall, not a terrible read but I think there needs to be some growth with this author.

HAPPY READING! 🙂

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 20, 2013

A series of anonymous threats intended for others puts a man—and everyone he loves—in the path of a relentless killer

Daniel Brasher has always been something of a disappointment to his old-money aristocratic San Francisco mother. Daniel left his high-paying job as a money manager to marry his community organizer wife and work at a job he loves, leading group counseling sessions with recently paroled ex-cons. Now he’s ready to move on and start a private practice.

But before he leaves, he finds an envelope in his department mailbox—one intended for someone else that was placed in his slot by accident. Inside it is an unsigned piece of paper, a note that says only “admit what you’ve done or you will bleed for it. you have ’til november 15 at midnite.” The deadline has already passed and the person to whom the envelope was addressed was brutally murdered. But this first warning is only the beginning.

Soon, Daniel finds more warnings in his office mail, to people that the police cannot track down, and to victims that cannot be saved. Daniel’s efforts, however, have alerted the killer to his involvement and next he gets a threat of his own. Now, with the clock ticking, Daniel—with no clue what he’s supposed to have done or to what action he must confess—must somehow appease, or outwit, a seemingly unstoppable killer.

REVIEW: TELL NO LIES is a contemporary mystery storyline of murder and suspense. This is my first Gregg Hurwitz novel.

The focus is on thirty something Daniel Brasher. Growing up privileged Daniel thumbed his nose at his family’s prestige and wealth and ventured into the world of psychology, group counseling with one-time rapists and thieves. A married man in a loving and committed relationship with his wife, three times per week Daniel leads and challenges a group of ex-cons and parolees to look within themselves at the who and what in their lives. But soon, Daniel will find himself on the receiving end of mysterious envelopes containing misdirected threats of murder and revenge. The messages are cryptic, threatening and contain deadlines for action.

We are introduced to the colorful and diverse group members through a series of one on one interactions where each participant must face the reality of what they have done and how to make amends. And in doing so, the reader as well as our hero will discover that not everyone is who he or she pretends to be. Everyone has a secret to tell.

As the storyline unfolds our hero Daniel is thrust into a world of grisly murders and psychotic killers. The local police detectives have nothing on Daniel as he seems to be able to ferret out the next victim before the authorities have time to blink and in doing so, Daniel places himself into a position where the killer begins to pull Daniel into the mystery that is unfolding before his eyes. But all too soon, the threats become personal and through a series of his own investigations Daniel will discover that the killer intends to make Daniel suffer in the same way the killer has suffered in the past.

This is a story of murder and revenge; a story where the killer believes he has been betrayed down to the deepest part of his soul; and a story where one man’s grief turns ugly with the need to avenge a death that he believes could have been prevented if not for the money behind the rich and powerful. Tell No Lies is also a study of the sociological implications of who has the power over life and death; and the greed of big money, big business and big medicine.

Gregg Hurwitz pulls the reader into a storyline of twists and turns. There is limited foul language; the murder scenes are not as graphically descriptive as are some other storylines I have read, but they do leave nothing to the imagination. The group of counseling characters are an interesting mix of cons, thieves, gang bangers and screw ups who through one reason or another have an axe to grind about how society and the ‘man’ have ruined their lives. And in the end, each will face their demons and come out of the sessions for better or for worse.

TELL NO LIES is a dark tale where one man’s choices will snowball into a story of revenge: where money and power have all of the control; and where the lives of everyone you love will hang in the balance when horrendous grief knows no boundaries or ends.

Tell No Lies takes the reader on a trail of mysterious messages, missing bodies, murder victims and revenge. Gregg Hurwitz writes an interesting story that will captivate the mystery lover in all readers.

Sin At Seas -Release Date June 25, 2013

Sin-At-SeajpgWhen Alysin decided to surprise her boyfriend at work with dinner, the surprise was on her. Since he was going at it with his secretary on the conference table, she packed a bag and called her BFF. Jolie and Alysin had been traveling the country, working as digital nomads for ten years ever since graduation. Taking this as a sign it was time for a new move, they decided to take a cruise, regroup, and make a plan.

Then she meets Mr. Bedroom Eyes. Following her lead, they pretend to be married so that she can rid herself of the guy who started hitting on her before the boat left the dock. Though it was supposed to be a momentary arrangement, he asks her to take it one step farther. Then another and another. The cruise promises to be memorable in every way that matters. Along the way, Alysin learns that she won’t have to fake an orgasm if she’s with someone who knows what to do, that not all men suck, but the best ones suck really well, and that sometimes what starts out as something pretend, can fast become something completely real. Will the woman who lives life with no regrets, regret that she made that stupid rule about not exchanging names and contact info?

REVIEW:  Sin at Sea is the first novella in Emma Nichols contemporary adult erotic novella series focusing on thirty year old Alysin (Sin) Nixon.

NOTE:  As with all erotic storylines, SIN AT SEA is not recommended for anyone under eighteen years of age as it contains F/F, M/F/F and M/F/M/F sexual situations.

After finding her boyfriend of two years having sex with his secretary, Alysin (Sin as she likes to be called) packed her bags, and along with her BFF Jolie embarked on a seven day cruise to the Caribbean to forget about life for a while.  But, what Sin never expected, was to fall in love with the man of her dreams.

The storyline and premise are very quick to build.  The relationship and attraction is immediate:  the sexual heat and tension is throughout the novella but there is also the growing bond between two strangers who know nothing about each other but what they see before their eyes.  In this, there is the beginning of love without any of the baggage that most people bring but there is also the possibility that something is not quite right on the horizon.

The world building is limited as the storyline is character driven.  Because of the erotic nature of the novella, there is plenty of talk and action between the sheets, as well as some questionable situations.

Although the premise was interesting especially for an erotic novella series, there were a few plot points that I felt were unnecessary to the overall flow of the story and in this, I can’t help but wonder why they were included.  For shock value?  I am not sure, but I would have enjoyed the story more without a couple of these situations. They felt disconnected to the storyline and without any real purpose.

Sin at Sea is a quick read with a variety of sexual situations that may not be for every reader. The premise is a little different than most, which is welcome, in a genre that is rife with inexperienced virgins and billionaire Doms. Our hero is the epitome of perfection and every woman’s fantasy come to life.   If you are looking to expand your erotic reading horizons, Sin at Sea is a fun, sensual and sexually erotic storyline.

Vixen-in-VegasjpgVixen in Vegas: Release Date August 13, 2013

It was supposed to be a week of simply being, of living in the moment, and enjoying every minute while it lasted. Of course, that kind of intoxication can have lingering effects. For Sin, she found herself wanting to break all the rules, to extend her time with the stranger who stole her heart. Vegas was just the right kind of place to take such a gamble. Meeting up with BE at the gondolas was a risk. Love went against everything they had promised, but the best things in life can’t be planned.Soon Alysin will be tested. After guarding her heart for so long, she finally let a man in and discovered that the worst things in life happened when she least expected them. When she walked in on BE with another woman and overheard their heated conversation, she suddenly remembered there was a reason she made these rules.

Will broken rules lead to broken hearts or will she realize that though love was a gamble, she was all in?

REVIEW:  Vixen in Vegas is the second storyline in Emma Nichol’s Sinful Novella series and picks up immediately following Sin at Sea.

NOTE:  The two novellas are available in one book format as The Sinful Series. You must read the series in order as much of the premise in Vixen in Vegas is built upon the information revealed in the first novella Sin at Sea.

In the previous novella, our couple agreed to one week of sex and fun pretending to be a married couple.  Not expecting to fall in love, Sin and Mr.BE agree to continue to see one another on dry land.  One week later, Sin and Jolie pack up and move to Vegas where another whirlwind affair between Sin and Mr.BE finds the couple falling head over heals and the realization that not all is well.

There were hints of a potential problem in Sin at Sea and throughout Vixen in Vegas the building of the revelation increases with every sexual encounter and excursion; every labored breath and every heartfelt declaration.

The storyline is a journey about two people who have fallen in love at a time when they needed love the most.  This is also a story of family and loss; sorrow and pain; and one woman’s journey to maturity and self-actualization.

Vixen in Vegas is a story of never giving up and letting go; and finding the strength to start all over again, when the end is just around the corner.
