It’s Christmas!…

Things are going well in Rabbit Creek. Elizabeth has taken her duties as the Alpha’s Mate to heart and as the story opens, that heart is breaking for the loneliness and isolation of one of her pack. It’s Christmas Eve and no one should be lonely at Christmas.

Lindy doesn’t feel like she has much to celebrate. After two years of widowhood, she can barely make ends meet without the aid of her pack and while her inner wolf is ready to move on, Lindy isn’t sure she can let go of the past.

New to the pack, Travis had party plans for the Holidays, but he ends up playing Santa to a pretty little widow and her pup. She’s not what he was looking for, but she’s exactly what he wants and his inner wolf agrees. Now all he has to do is convince Lindy that Christmas gifts aren’t always the ones you find under the tree

•••••••••••••••••

Wow, an amazingly warm and lovely story for the Christmas holidays! Rabbit Creek Santa takes us back to the small mountain town of Rabbit Creek where the wolver pack of Marshall Goodman and his Mate, Elizabeth are living and caring for their wonderful pack.

This is a really heartwarming story of a lonely wolver widow, Lindy, and her sweet “pup” or baby – Joey. Lindy’s mate Joe was killed in an auto accident two years prior, just after she had told him they were about to be parents. Part of Lindy loves that he knew before he died, and part of her wonders if knowing distracted him and got him killed. Isn’t that the way we usually do, always try to find a way to feel guilty for something we have no control over? But I digress.

As part of the Christmas duties, Elizabeth manages to get new comer to the pack, Travis Pike, to dress up as Santa and take some presents for Joey to Lindy’s cabin. All is great, except Joey screams instead of enjoying Santa, but Travis takes off the Santa stuff and charms Joey (or maybe it’s Joey that charms Travis). As the evening progresses Travis begins to understand that Lindy is the mate he and his wolf need, and Joey wants Travis as part of the family. However, convincing Lindy is quite another matter! She and her former mate were content, but not soul mates, but Lindy is having trouble moving on.

In the usual Rabbit Creek fashion the story unfolds with humor, frustration, and so much more than just a little attraction. Okay, that’s all the spoilers I’ll give out! You need to pick up a cool beverage (you’ll need it LOL), curl up and read this wonderful love story for yourself! It’s really true, not all presents are found under the tree! Enjoy, I really did! And Merry Christmas!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 2012

Any couple who spends the night in the Christmas cottage shall have love everlasting… Lacey Quinn did not believe in happily ever after or the legend of the Christmas cottage. As maid of honor for her best friend Ava, her duties included decorating the cottage for the newlyweds. It was a simple enough task, but she hadn’t counted on sexy Ean Callahan, the bride-to-be’s brother, to be assisting her. Spending the evening ensconced in the overly romantic setting while a blizzard howls outside has Lacey wondering if fairy tales really do come true…

••••••••••••••••••••

I am grinning from ear to ear after reading THE CHRISTMAS COTTAGE by Samantha Chase. It starts with the legend of the Christmas cottage. When a couple spends their wedding night at this cottage, they shall have everlasting love. Well, bridesmaid Lacey doesn’t buy it, but bride Ava has a binder full of jobs that Lacey must do to get the cottage ready for her wedding. Did I mention that Ava is a Bridezilla or that I wanted to punch her in the throat from time to time? Lacey humors her lifelong best friend and drives up to the cottage to make plans. Unknown to her, her childhood crush and Ava’s brother, Ean is there and they get snowed in for the night. No spoilers here, but I think that Ean and Lacey get reacquainted really fast!

Can there be love everlasting for our two main characters? This is a beautiful love story, a romance between two people who have known each other all of the lives. There are some beautiful quotes concerning their love.

Ean has this swoon worthy thought: “Lacey Quinn owned a part of his heart that he was just now realizing had always belonged to her and he had no idea what to do about it”.

The question is, does flighty Ava end up getting married on Christmas Eve or does she have other plans? This is a love story that you need to read in one sitting, I hope that you smile along as Ean and Lacey navigate their own happy ever after!

The Spider

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 24, 2013

For the first time, the origins of Gin Blanco’s career as the deadly assassin “the Spider” are revealed in full. In a story that pre-dates the other nine books in the series, Gin Blanco goes through her paces to become the most feared assassin in the Ashland.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE SPIDER is the tenth full length storyline in Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series and one that focuses on ten years in the past. Jennifer takes the reader on a reflective ride following one of Gin’s biggest mistakes and regrets. When a bouquet of black roses is delivered to Gin at the Pork Pit, The Spider begins to reminisce about the past and the one time in her life she can never take back.

The Spider follows a time when Gin was too quick to jump to conclusions and in doing so hurts the very people she is trying to protect. Still training under the direction of Fletcher Lane, Gin takes control of a contract hit that was never intended to be anything other than a job. But soon Gin will find herself falling for the wrong man and with it the realization that not everyone or everything is as it seems. Knowing she has made a monumental error in judgment, Gin is forced to do the only thing she can-take out those responsible for setting her up to take the fall.

Jennifer Estep’s signature style of Gin’s first person POV brings the reader up close and personal with one of the most feared assassins in the fictional town of Ashland. Many of the Elemental Assassin’s secondary characters play a small role including Gin’s first encounter with Owen; Jo Jo and Sophia; Finn and the late Fletcher Lane; and a brief glimpse at someone Gin had long since thought dead. The storyline will go full circle from present day to a decade earlier then back to the future where Gin knows that there is never enough she can do to right the wrongs from so many years before.

THE SPIDER is a story that delves deeper into the ‘who’ and the ‘what’ that is Gin Blanco-The Spider. We watch as a young, lonely and naïve Gin falls victim to a socio-pathic killer and the results will push our heroine into a world of pain and regret and a world where she will forever be looking out for a young girl whose life was torn apart by the actions of the woman who thought she was saving the world.

Jennifer Estep pulls the reader into a storyline of betrayal and pain; love and hate; and a world of supernatural beings, who one way or another, will make their presence known-from the past to the present and beyond.

Description:
For Mary Sullivan Christmas is, and always has been, about family. And this year is no different. As she awaits the arrival of her eight children and their partners at the cottage in Lake Tahoe, she hangs the ornaments that they made for her over the years. Each decoration brings with it a tide of memories, all of which she holds dear to her heart. But when she comes across the oldest ornament, the one her beloved husband, Jack, gave her on their very first Christmas together, Mary is immediately swept back to the first days of their whirlwind romance, to the love that would be the foundation on which they built the family she is so proud to call her own.

Join the Sullivans this Christmas for a story that explores the wonder of the holidays, the meaning of family and a love that transcends time.

Review:

The Sullivan series has been so successful, as we have met the entire family and each of their spouses, in each of Bella Andre‘s books.  The parents of these wonderful, not to mention gorgeous siblings are Mary and Jack Sullivan. Mary is the matriarch of the family, with Jack having died many years before.

Fans of this series have begged Bella to write the story of Jack and Mary when they met and fell in love.  Now in the 10th book of the series, Kissing Under the Mistletoe is their story, and a wonderful trip down memory lane it is.  I loved their story, and Andre just continues to wow us with her wonderful sweet and sexy stories.

It starts with Mary in the cabin waiting for each of her married children to arrive to celebrate Christmas. Mary pulls out the box of all her special Christmas ornaments, especially those made by each child.  We go down memory lane as she remembers with us, how she received these personally made ornaments. The Sullivans have always been about family tradition, love and loyalty.

Once they are all put up, she sits back and thinks about her Jack. As she closes her eyes, we flash back in time when Mary was a famous model.  She has made a decision to quit, as she wants to live a normal life, and find love.  Mary meets entrepreneur, Jack, during her last day on the job.  Jack is facing his own crisis, as a new product he has worked on for years, is on the brink of being dropped.  He is been given a day to find something to spice up the product promotion..some kind of sex appeal.   Jack comes upon the photo shoot, and immediately decides Mary is the perfect solution.  What Jack didn’t count on was that he would fall head over heels in love with Mary.  Mary was attracted to Jack also, but she was hesitant to commit to anyone, since she has been hurt so many times by people using her.  At first, Mary wants nothing to do with another man who is interested to use her for her looks, but Jack is very convincing.  He wines and dines her, and they both feel the immediate sexual chemistry.  Mary agrees to do the campaign for his product, but tells Jack she doesn’t mix business and pleasure.  Easier said then done, as both are falling in love with each other.  Jack was fabulous, not pushing Mary until she was ready.  He knew she had bad experiences, and he did not want her to be hurt.  Jack worked hard to win Mary’s trust, and when Mary gets called home to visit her ailing mother, whom she hasn’t seen in 13 years; Jack is with her every step of the way.  Mary knows she can trust her heart, and allow her love for Jack to guide her.

Andre always has some special scenes in her books that totally pull you in emotionally.  When Jack took Mary to meet his family, it was so heart warming to see Mary with his brother’s young child, Ian (Mr. Irresistible).  Precious moments like this are Andre’s trademark.

The epilogue in this book was unusual and wonderful.  We got to see a short page for each month of their first year of marriage up to when Mary becomes pregnant with their first child.  I really enjoyed that.  Bella Andre does it again, with a fabulous look back in time with the couple that brought us the Sullivans.  If you have not read The Sullivans, then you are missing a wonderful series that should not be missed.

How hard is it to NOT have sex with him? Lust has melted Holly Connelly’s brain and it’s all Ryan Darcy’s fault. He’s been ruthlessly flirting with her for the past three years. Ryan’s a sex god complete with sinful body, endless wit, and an orgasm-inducing smile. One sultry look from him will make her panties jump off her body. His endless string of one-night stands has Holly thinking she’ll be just another conquest. Since she actually has feelings for the guy, it makes it that much harder to put off his advances. When they get trapped together by a snowstorm, it’s all she can do to resist him. If Holly says yes, she’ll probably regret it. If she says no, she’ll always wonder what if.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Holly and Ryan have been pining after each other for 3 long years, but never acted upon it for fear of rejection. They couldn’t be more wrong! Now that Holly’s home for winter break…will they get their Christmas miracle? Not only had I heard so many positive things about H.M. Ward, but realizing Christmas Kisses fell under the New Adult genre, I jumped at the opportunity. It gave me so much more than I expected, it was my own little Christmas gift!

I thought we were going home. I thought we’d chat and catch up along the way, and maybe share a goodnight kiss.

I’ve never been more wrong about anything in my life.

Ugh…STILL swooning as I write this review! Holly is back in Long Island six months after a hasty two-step to Texas (see what I did there?). A bad breakup will do that to a broken-hearted girl. Seems Ryan was left out of the loop over Holly’s mad dash and realizes it mattered to him; he wished he would have known Holly was leaving to…to…finally tell her how much he liked her. Had Holly even suspected Ryan reciprocated her feelings…well, we wouldn’t have this terrific book, now would we?

An impromptu meeting at a club reignites those repressed feelings! The time to act is now (especially since Holly is flying back to school on January 1st), but Ryan and Holly are so unaccustomed to being more than friends (they’d always enjoyed each other’s company while silently drooling over one another), that the awkwardness sets in…and fires off a series of misreads that had me clamoring for clarity!!! That’s part of the allure of this genre, however. NA follows high school into college when experimentation is at its peak and the lead couple is supposed to misunderstand, to confuse the obvious. You know you were there once upon a time! [Symbol] It’s the magic we feel/read when courage to reveal their true feelings surfaces.

My brain says we should just tell him. My heart thinks we should just tell him. My body thinks we should just take the syrup over there, pour it over his sexy body, and lick him.

I loved it all…pre-admissions and post-swoons. It was a fantastic read! Angst, joy, steamy seduction, and most important: Making the best out of missed opportunities. The cover models graced one of my favorite books, so I am not embarrassed to say it was a package deal! You cannot go wrong with this book and I will be researching more by this author.

The 132 page short story may be titled Christmas Kisses, but so much more happens along the way in this delight!

When Barb approached me with the idea of resurrecting the Tricia Talks column, I was worried.  What am I going to write about?  What should I focus on?  Well you know what?  I’m just going to ramble.  For those of you who know me, rambling is as normal as breathing.  Y’all are so lucky!

It’s been a year that’s all I can say.  WHEW WHAT A YEAR!  On a personal level, things have gone great.  A few minor ups and downs, but nothing to really complain about.  I could complain, don’t get me wrong, but I’ll spare you the boredom.  Let me think…..what was special about this year?  Hmmmmm. I really didn’t have anything major happen, my family is healthy, I have a lot of blessings to be thankful for.  My son is 13.  I officially am the owner of a teenager.  A teenager that is a boy.  His voiced changed one day.  One morning, after staggering to the coffeepot and fumbling around to make my first cup of happiness, I’m startled by this MAN’S voice behind me that says, “good morning mom.”  GASP!  That’s my little boy speaking to me.  I managed to shove my heart back into my chest to tell my sweet boy good morning.  Don’t care how big he gets, he will always be my little boy.  And I’m the type of mom that will remind him of that when he’s surrounded by his stinky teenage friends.

I FOUND PINTEREST!  Pinterest and I have a love/hate relationship.  Thanks to Pinterest I am cooking up a storm, making all kinds of great breakfast meals, dinners and desserts.  Well with Pinterest making me such a great cook, my rear is spreading.  Pinterest is making me fat, dang it.  I blame Pinterest.  So many recipes packed full of melted cheese and gooey deliciousness, I have to cook them all.  I need a 12 step program to cure my addiction to Pinterest.  It’s ridonkulous.  I have pinned hundreds of recipes.  I can make you any and every kind of pasta dish or bake you 10 varieties of oatmeal.  Plus I’ve pinned tons of useful household tips. I am now armed with tons of facts that’ll I’ll never use again, how to clean with dryer sheets as scrubbers, making my own laundry detergent, make my own coffee creamer.  Great ideas for the do it yourself gal.  I’m a buy it at Walmart already made kind of girl.  But I still save all of the tidbits of info, just in case.  Maybe one day there will be a Pinterest game show and I’ll win tons of money.  Don’t laugh, it could happen.

I went to Las Vegas this year!  Little ole southern me hopped on a plane and jetted over to Las Vegas for a week on vacation.  Let me just say WOW.  First, let’s talk about heat.  Now remember, I’m in Mississippi, about an hour north of New Orleans.  We have heat and humidity, temperatures over 100 in the summer months.  I know what heat is.  People kept saying “Oh, it’s a DRY heat in Las Vegas.  It’s not that hot.”  Let me define dry heat.  “Dry heat” is like standing on the sun.  I was sweating in places that I didn’t even know existed.  Oh yeah, it’s a dry heat.  I love that baking like a rotisserie chicken in an oven, dry heat feeling.  NOT!  The only good thing about the hotter than hades dry heat, is there was no humidity which meant my curly hair was looking awesome.  But my great hair days were defeated by the puddle of dripping sweat that followed me everywhere I went.  Besides the heat though, I had a wonderful time, it was a vacation of a lifetime.  Beautiful city, gorgeous sights.  I have some beautiful pictures and memories that will last forever.

The holidays are approaching!  For Christmas this year, I bought my son a gaming desktop computer.  I gave it to him early because I didn’t want to make him wait.  I’m impatient like that.  Plus his computer had died and he needed a new one for school stuff too, which justified his early Christmas present.  Logical thinking at its best!  Well anywho…….  Brand new computer out the box, should be easy to get up and running, right?  Um, NO.  Things never go smoothly for me.  When I bought the desktop, I did not buy a new monitor.  Our existing one was in great shape, why waste the money?  Haha, the computer gods laughed and laughed at me for that idea.  My sweet boy is all excited, waiting for his desktop to be put together.  All is going smoothly until I try to plug in the monitor to the computer.  I was almost done, things had gone great up till that moment.  The brand new computer didn’t have a plug that my monitor cable would fit in.  There were USB plugs, DVI plugs, HDMI plugs, ear plugs, microphone plugs, speaker plugs, you get the point.  No VGA plug, which is what my antique monitor has.  ROAR!!!!  I dash off to Walmart to get an adapter.  The Walmart guy tells me they do not have an adapter for what I need.  He kindly suggests for me to just buy a TV, which will work great.  Or I can buy a new monitor, but he recommends the TV.  Ok, thanks Walmart dude for the advice.  I buy a new monitor.  Dash back home, where my sweet boy’s face is waiting patiently for his new toy.  Unpack the monitor and what does it have???  A VGA plug, just like my old monitor.  CURSE YOU COMPUTER GODS!  I will not be defeated!  I jump into my super mom mobile and go to Radio Shack looking for an adapter.  Radio Shack dude says nope, they don’t have one either.  I explained how I bought a brand new monitor and it also has the stupid old fashioned VGA plug.  He says, just get a TV screen, it’s cheaper and the picture will be better.  Well apparently Walmart dude and Radio Shack dude must’ve talked before I got there.  I kicked Radio Shack dude in the shins and stomped off to Walmart to buy the TV that I should’ve purchased the first time.  I also purchased an HDMI cable while I was there because I figured with my luck, the TV wouldn’t come with the proper cable.  HAHAHAHA, can’t fool me computer gods, I was right!  No cable in the box, but I was prepared with my HDMI extra purchase.  Get ready to hook up the TV, which is the last crucial piece before the computer is ready, and the cable is about an inch too short.  Really?  REALLY?  Two stacks of computer paper under the desktop later, I made the cable reach until I could get a longer cable.  My son was thrilled.  I defeated the computer gods.  Super mom wins again, although super mom was exhausted after that little adventure.

To wrap up my rambles, I would like to wish all of you a blessed and wonderful Holiday season!  May you and your families be happy and healthy!  Until next time, happy reading!

Description:
“A Riley wedding is in the works, a Riley Christmas means a house full of family, and baby making is on Liz Riley’s mind. Chasing Gavin around and meeting in dark closets can be fun, but Liz is more than a little determined. Even with family in every corner of the house, Gavin is more than ready to do whatever Liz wants—especially when sex is involved. It’s a Riley family Christmas.”

Review;

For anyone who is a fan of Jaci Burton and her Play-by-Play series then this short story is a must.  It’s a nice reunion of sorts with all the members of the Riley family and their significant others.  I really enjoyed being able to revisit with all these characters and see what they have been up to. Ms. Burton has created a wonderful set of characters within the Riley family and their significant others and all are showcased nicely in this story.  I also love that fact that the story takes place around Christmas, with a Christmas wedding taking place, and thoughts of baby making running through Liz’s head. Oh what a fun filled Riley Christmas this is turning out to be.

Since this story is more of a reunion of sorts for Burton fans and her Riley family characters, not much in terms of drama takes place.  It’s more of a relaxed, laid back type of story, and having the chance to catch up with our favourite characters from past books.  It’s wonderful celebration of family and friends.  Don’t get me wrong, Ms. Burton makes sure she has enough sizzle in the book between Gavin and Liz as they try to get pregnant, and Liz is not shy about this with Gavin.  She will steal any chance she can to get Gavin alone and into baby making mode.  We really get to see just how much they’ve grown as a couple and that their life together is still sizzling.   The love they have for each other runs deep and it’s shown time and time again in every scene they have together.  Not only are Liz and Gavin blissfully happy, but so too are all the other couples.  Even though the major plot line centers around Liz and Gavin and her quest to have his child, we are also treated to a Christmas wedding between Ty and Jenna(Taking a Shot).  There is no shortage of love and happiness  this holiday season within the Riley family.

Being a fan of this series I enjoyed Holiday Games. I liked the overall setup of the story, being able to revisit with and catch up with past couples. It’s nice to see the family camaraderie during sporting events, and even nicer to see just how close this family is, and what they all mean to each other.  The Bachelorette and Bachelor party scenes for Jenna and Tyler are fun filled, and add the perfect balance to the emotional turmoil Liz is going through as she tries to have Gavin’s baby. The scenes between Liz and Gavin are touching and heartfelt and the emotion between the two pours off the pages.  Jaci Burton has written a wonderful short story that takes place over the holidays, well showcasing all of her amazing characters who make up the Riley family in her Play-by-Play series.  For anyone who is a fan of her Play-by-Play series this one is a lovely bonus to the series.

Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas

Happy Reading, until next time!

HIS RIGHTHAND MAN (Brides #1) by Grace Deleesie-a review

His Right Hand Man

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 25, 2013

Angela of Rom has one mission: to save the lives of her sickly brother and crippled father. When her beloved country goes to war, Angela disguises herself as her brother “Phil,” the estranged son of Rom. The last person she expected to collide with (literally) is her long time betrothed Captain Konner of Hoyts. Having never met Konner before, Angela is quickly intrigued by the large man who is soon to be her husband. Konner could care less about the unknown woman his father betrothed him to. His sole purpose is to fight, and to win, the war. When he discovers, though, that the famed archer of the Arohian army is, in truth, a woman (his woman) Konner’s affections fast become hers. Yet, Angela is a distraction to the warrior lifestyle he’d been born and raised in. Konner must learn to keep his head…without losing his heart.

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: HIS RIGHTHAND MAN is the first instalment in Grace Deleesie’s new series Brides-a cross between historical romance and a little bit of fantasy. With close to 500 pages in the first storyline HIS RIGHTHAND MAN is just the beginning of a saga about a war between countries, the love of family and the fight for the one who has stolen your heart. This is Angela and Konner’s storyline.

The premise follows Angela of Rom as she endeavors to hide in plain site. Hoping to protect her fifteen year old brother from the atrocities of war, Angela secretly enlists in the army as her estranged brother ‘Phil’ and what follows is the building of friendships, relationships, abilities and love. Serving under the command of the man to whom she has been betrothed-Konner- but never previously met, Angela – now known as Phil – must remain true to her promise to protect and defend the people that she loves. But trying to keep safe the man with whom she is falling in love is becoming difficult when he is constantly putting himself in the line of fire and she is unable to reveal her true identity. Women are not allowed in combat and Angela’s secret is about to be revealed.

The relationship between Konner and Angela begins as commander and soldier leading to friendship than love but along the way Konner becomes suspicious of ‘Phil’s’ relationship with Prince Richard and believes that they are keeping secret information. We watch as Konner and ‘Phil’s’ bromance friendship grows knowing that Konner is not aware that the man he calls ‘brother’ is actually his betrothed. When Phil’s true identity is finally discovered, Konner’s anger is fueled by the pain and betrayal-not only from the friend he has grown to love but from the woman he has never truly known.

HIS RIGHTHAND MAN is a long story-almost 500 pages- that follows the slow build of friendships and relationship between several people including Konner, Angela (Phil) and Prince Richard. Grace Deleesie pulls the reader onto the training grounds and battlefields where lives will be lost and family’s destroyed. There is some violence but not graphic; the sex scene is mostly implied; and the developing romance between two people can be felt throughout the storyline. The world building is richly detailed with flashbacks, memories and historical recollections.

I did have one issue-not necessarily constructive-but for all of the building relationships and friendships-not once did anyone presume that ‘Phil’ was not who he purported to be. Only one man (and her family) knew Phil’s true identity and he believed it was not his story to tell. Cutting one’s hair and lowering one’s voice does not make one female or male and in this the believability is questionable. But then again, this is a fictional storyline with a fantasy adventure about war, betrayal and growing love and in this we can overlook the small questions that continued to burn throughout the story.

Grace has written a fascinating and interesting tale about friendships and love surrounded by the struggles of war. We watch as Angela grows into a strong soldier, a trusted friend and eventually a loving mate and in the end will discover that even she cannot ensure the safety of everyone she loves.
