ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 23, 2013

Three years ago, after Grave lost his mate Amnilia to a human poacher, he tried to denounce his title as Prince of the Bloodclaw Clan, the largest pack of werewolves in Arkansas. Determined to never become involved in pack business again, Grave left to join the human world with his bodyguard and best friend. On a nightly jog, Grave meets a tough and sassy huntress with a vengeance against werewolves like nothing the prince has ever seen before. He finds her most intriguing and, though he was warned to stay away from her, Grave finds himself drawn to her. Knowing he needs to be around her, Grave convinces the huntress he’s human.

When an old enemy comes to town and sees Grave and Sam together, he marks Sam as his next target. To protect her, Grave has to tell her the truth about himself. In doing so Grave will be risking turning her wrath against werewolves on him and ruin any chance Grave has at finding happiness after Amnilia’s death-but it also might just save her life.

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: CROSS MY HEART is the first instalment in Grace Deleesie’s new contemporary, adult paranormal Wolfe Lodge series focusing on the Bloodclaw Clan of werewolves. This is Grave and Sam’s story. Grave is the Prince, first in the royal line of werewolves and Sam is the huntress who stalks and destroys the very thing that Grave (is). Sam lost her younger half-brother to the wolf and with it came a vendetta against their kind. Thinking she has saved Grave from an attack, Sam will soon discover that Grave is much more than he professes to be.

The introductory storyline is very long, very detailed and awash in the back story, history, rules and regulations and, laws governing the dos and don’ts of a patriarchal society run by the Alpha male, the royal family and the guardians under their command. We are witness to Grave’s friendship with his best friend and ‘Hash’ (bodyguard) Phax; Sam’s relentless hunt for the werewolf; and Grave’s need for the woman who calls to his inner beast. Sam’s deep-rooted hatred of the werewolves forces Grave to keep his identity a secret and with it will come betrayal, heartbreak and the loss of one’s mate.

Grace Deleesie has written a storyline that will see the prince lose his mate-not once-but twice. He is a man whose heart and soul will be crushed by the very woman with whom he has fallen in love and in the end he must allow said woman to walk away. This is not a story with a hearts and flower ending, but a story where one man must face an uncertain future when his mate is so focused on her own wants and needs that she will place the Bloodclaw Clan and wolves into an uncertain future.

Sam is on a mission and she refuses to acknowledge that anything so vile as a werewolf could have emotions and feelings. She is a woman determined to eradicate the species one wolf at a time and her unwillingness to compromise sets the tone for the character’s drive and sense of duty-in this- she was not necessarily a easy character to love.

CROSS MY HEART is an interesting look at a werewolf society governed by an hierarchy of royalty where exposure to the humans is almost as dangerous as the rogue wolves who threaten their own kind. Grace Deleesie writes an edgy storyline where one woman has the ability to destroy a man and a prince with her inability to accept the truth behind the werewolves and their need for a mate. And when said woman walks away she will destroy what is left of a man whose only sin is to fall in love with the woman who hates the very thing he was born to be.

1944 Ardennes, WWII

Lt. Ruth Mencher has always secretly admired Capt. Joseph Klein, but it takes the lighting of a Hanukkah candle to uncover the spark of mutual attraction. Each night awakens a new facet of their relationship, but as the Battle of the Bulge begins, the approaching Nazi forces threaten to tear them apart.

Review:

Faith. And love. Those are the two words that describe this story. During a time when the Nazis were blazing their way through Europe, Ruth Mencher was unabashed with her faith. She was a nurse in an evac unit and prided herself in her work. Joseph Klein, an army surgeon, with his movie star good looks and Texas drawl, made most swoon. Until he started barking orders. He intimidated most, but not Ruth. She was drawn to him for some reason, and decided to take a chance. Being so far from home, and the holiday season approaching made her yearn for more than just her work. So, with her dime store menorah, she decides to include Joe in her Hanukkah celebration. Will Joe accept her invitation and her faith? Well, of course he will. Not only is this a romance, but it’s a holiday story as well! And, once she discovers Joe’s “secret”, she falls so very hard over the next eight nights while they burn Eight Tiny Flames…………..

What a sweet sweet story. Even though this is a short story, the impact it makes will stay with you. Ruth is such a feisty woman and the depth of her faith will humble anyone who reads this story. I absolutely adore this type of historical romance. I have read several over the years that have taken place during wartime, and this is by far my favorite. The one problem with the story? It was too danged short!!!! Another great story as told by one of my must-read authors. Well done Crista McHugh!!!

Description:
“Getting snowed in never felt so good as boundaries are crossed, opposites attract, and friends discovering more, promise a Christmas no one will ever forget.”

Reviews;

This was a very nice anthology of short and sweet romance stories.  It’s the kind of book you can take and make a nice Sunday afternoon out of, while snuggled up by a roaring fire and glass of wine in hand.  I enjoyed all four stories, all were short, fun reads.  All the characters are easy to like and make you want to see them wind up with their HEA in the end.  Each and every story has it’s own flare and flavour to it, and had me getting more and more into the holiday mood, and made me want to bake up a batch of gingerbread cookies myself, and trim my tree all over again.  For anyone who’s looking for quick, fun reads, with sweet holiday romances thrown in, then this anthology is definitely for you.

Here’s a little recap on all four stories.

Loving Mindy, By Karen Erickson
“Mindy can’t believe she’s stuck with her ex–best friend—and the man whose heart she broke years ago—for the holidays, though the tension between them is more than enough to keep them warm. Josh Powers never forgot Mindy, but he can’t risk his heart a second time.”

This is a short, sweet, and endearing read.  It’s about two friends who had grown apart over the years, loosing their special friendship, only to finally find love during the year’s worst snowstorm.  The story picks up a number of years later and Josh is still hung up on Mindy, but now Mindy’s divorced and raising her kids.  Josh has tried to keep away from Mindy as much as possible since returning home, but thanks to Mindy’s wandering cat, poor Josh winds up crashing his truck into a snowbank outside Mindy’s house. Thanks to Mother Nature, the weather is so bad he can’t get a tow truck.  Josh and Mindy wind up getting snowed in for a few days, and over the course of those days, rekindle their friendship and realize there’s more then meets the eye in regards to the two of them.  It’s fun to see them reunite, become friends again and realize they do have real feelings for each other and that they were meant to be.  Their scenes together are fun and flirty and having it take place around the holidays is just the perfect touch.  Both characters are likeable and their conversations are heartfelt and warm. The emotion in this one hits all the high spots and had me grinning along and wishing I were stranded in a snowstorm with Mr. Right.

White-Hot Holiday, By Coleen Kwan
“Naomi’s sworn off men like Aaron—rich, cocky, and dismissive of holiday traditions. Aaron decided to spend Christmas in sunny Australia to avoid snowy New York, not to fall for the woman his best friend warned him away from. But when a volcano grounds him, Aaron and Naomi’s relationship becomes eruptive.”

This is another short, fun and flirty read.  Being a Northern Canadian, and being used to being surrounded by snow at least 5 months out of the year had me wondering what it would be like to be someplace like Australia at Christmas time with no snow.  I found myself sympathizing with Aaron whenever he’d be missing the snow and cold from back home.  Who knew it would take being halfway around the world and in balmy Australia for our hero Aaron to realize just what he has back home during the holidays.  It was fun to see his interactions with Naomi, and watch him go from a Ba-Humbug as she calls him, to Jolly ol’ St. Nick over a matter of days. I really liked this story, and enjoyed Naomi and Aaron. I felt they were well suited for each other and the sparks between flew from their first scene.  Their interations and conversations are real and charming and watching him do things he otherwise would never have considered doing before were quite fun.  The scene where they went to find a new Christmas tree, and then when he actually went and helped her at work(selling Christmas gifts) were priceless, yet charming. Oh the things a man will do to impress the girl he’s attracted to. Aaron is definitely a keeper and Naomi realizes this, but can she let go of her past breakup and take the plunge once again.  Thankfully Aaron is very persuasive, and in the end they both get what they are looking for in their HEA.

An Officer and a Rebel, Cindi Madsen
“  The last person police officer Nate Walsh expected to discover in a snowstorm is his brother’s ex and former town rebel, Kelsey Cooper. She’s his complete opposite and totally off-limits, but as they wait out the storm together, all he can think is how he wishes she’d stay forever.”

To keep the flow of fun, flirty and quirky going in this anthology Ms. Madsen hits all the high spots in this one.  You can’t help but love Nate and Kelsey, two polar opposites pretty much, but there’s no denying the chemistry between the two of them. Even though Nate is trying to do the right thing and keep things light between the two of them because she used to date his brother Derek, Nate can’t help his feelings. I felt so bad for Nate, that at one point I started talking to my Kobo telling Nate;”to hell with your brother, go for it already”.  You see Nate was always the golden boy of his family, and town, you know the boy next door, never gets into trouble kinda guy.  So here he is trying to do the right thing till he talks to his brother, but Kelsey’s not having any of it. She’s attracted to Nate, and knows he’s attracted to her, plus he’s pretty much let the cat out of the bag by kissing her and flat out telling her he’s always had a thing for her since highschool. Oh Nate what a tangled web you’ve woven for yourself.  😉   Watching Nate deal with his feelings and with Kelsey is comical at times. I especially enjoyed their snowmobiling scene, poor Nate trying to keep his mind off his feelings for Kelsey while waiting for his brother to text him back, but Kelsey has other plans.  She’s holding on tight, pinching his butt, basically torturing him.  I was LOL at that scene and couldn’t have agreed more with her tactics.  This story had me LOL at times, and other times wanting to slap Nate silly for being the well behaved, good mannered boy next door. All in all, this was a quick, and quirky read. I really enjoyed both characters, and any man who would beg his friend to fly him in his helicopter on New Years Eve to get the woman he wants definitely has my vote for Mr. Right.

Saving the Sheriff, By Roxanne Snopek
“Frankie Sylva was determined to free the reindeer cruelly held for a holiday roadshow, even if it meant risking her own life. Deputy Sheriff Red LeClair set out to save a stranger in a snowstorm, never expecting he’d be the one to be rescued.”

Once again we have another fun and quirky read with this one.  I found myself smiling and laughing most of the time thanks to Frankie and her sense of humour, antics and ability to just break out into song for almost anything. I’ve never before seen or heard of someone confessing to a crime by breaking out in song.  LOL!!  Well, maybe only in musicals 😉  Frankie is such a quirky character you can’t help but love her.  She is the perfect woman for Red, especially after the hand he’s been dealt by his ex.  Thanks to his ex, poor Red is miserable and pretty much sworn off women, so when he happens upon the whirl wind that his Francesca(Frankie) Slyva, his life gets expectantly turned upside down.  Since Red is currently divorced and not in a Christmas mood, he decides to play housekeeper for his friends and look after their Wild Mustang Santuary, and winds up meeting Frankie. She’s taken a trailer of Caribou and decided to rescue them from a meat packing plant and set them free on the Mustang Santuary property without anyone being the wiser.  However, as luck would have it, Mother Nature has other ideas.  Thanks to a nasty storm that’s moved in, the trailer gets stuck and she has nowhere to go, enter our Sheriff Red LeClair.  While they are waiting out the storm, Red finally learns the truth behind Frankie’s actions, and can’t blame her for what she did.  As they try and work out a plan, to help her, things begin to heat up between the two, and before you know it, they both realize they’ve fallen for the other.  It’s a rather sweet story, with some rather humourous moments, but at other times serious and endearing.  It’s a well balance story with well written characters who just compliment each other to a ‘t’.  I really enjoyed this one, it had me laughing and at other times had me swooning.  Frankie and Red are two wonderful characters who you can’t help but come to love and want to see make it to their HEA.  Along with Frankie and Red, we also meet some secondary characters who wind up adding a little more spice and fun to the story.  I really enjoyed these characters, and now want to go back and read their stories.

All in all this anthology is a winner in my books. I enjoyed each story.  They all had their own special moments and had me rooting for each couple.  Every single one of our hero’s is very swoon-worthy and makes me want to get stranded in a snowstorm and find my Mr. Right.  As for our heroine’s each one is different, but has her own quirks and fun little personalities that bring a nice balance to the relationship.  Like I said earlier, this anthology is perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon curled up by the fire with a glass of wine.

Until next time, Happy Reading everyone!

REVIEW

4 out of 5 for this reader folks!

WOW .. that was a whole lot of story in a novella.

Once Upon a Highland Christmas by Sue-Ellen Welfonder is the prequel to her Scandalous Scots series. Really … she had me at Scandalous Scots. LOL A joyous read that made my heart warm and sprinkled a great dose of Christmas Cheer! 🙂

Breena O’Doherty is our Irish heroine who lives in Duncreag Castle under circumstances that she had accepted a long time ago. Her laird Archie, has lost his wife a few years ago and with that loss went the loss of anything full of joy and happiness. Once the Christmas place to be, Duncreag no longer hangs holly, mistletoe, candies fruit, sings and gets a little silly due to over indulgence of honey mead. Duncreag is a sad place now, especially during the holiday season.

Grim Mackintosh a loyal warrior of Duncreag has had enough of a sad castle. Especially is this castle has Brenna living in it. Both Brenna and Grim have been in love with each other for a long time, but feared the other would reject them. After a chance passionate embrace, Grim decides it’s time to claim the woman he loves. He decides to visit surrounding castles with Brenna in tow to convince fellows Scots to bring the joy to Duncreag and cheer Archie up once and for all.

As the joy is being spread, a secret surfaces that threatens Brenna and Grims new love. Will the Christmas magic protect them??

A short story, full of love and smexy scenes, it is so easy to love Brenna and Grim. I appreciated the old bahhumbug Archie who was totally channelling Scrooge, but we all know that even Scrooge gets his HEA! 😉

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY READING!

Description:
Lovers at Heart is a steamy contemporary romance with alpha male heroes and sexy, empowered women. They’re flawed, funny, passionate, and very relatable for readers who enjoy adult romance, contemporary romance, and women’s fiction. Enjoy Lovers at Heart as a stand-alone novel or for more enjoyment, read the entire Love and Bloom series (nine full-length novels featuring the Snow Sisters and the Bradens).

Handsome, wealthy resort owner Treat Braden is used to getting what he wants. When Max Armstrong walked into his life six months earlier, he saw right through the efficient and capable façade she wore like a shield, to the sweet, sensual woman who lay beneath. She sparked an unfamiliar desire in him for more than a one-night stand, leaving his heart reeling and his blood boiling. But one mistake caused her to turn away, and now, after six months of longing for the one woman he cannot have, he’s going home to try to forget her all together.

Max Armstrong has a successful career, a comfortable lifestyle, and she’s never needed a man to help her find her way–until Treat Braden caught her attention at a wedding in Nassau, causing a surge of emotions too reminiscent of the painful past she’d spent years trying to forget. Max will do anything to avoid reliving that pain–including forgoing her toe-curling, heart-pounding desire for Treat.

When a chance encounter turns into a night of intense passion, Treat realizes that the mistake he made six months earlier may cause him to lose Max completely. He will do everything within his power to win her heart forever–and Max is forced to face her hurtful past head on for the man she cannot help but love.

Review:

Lovers at Heart is the 4th book in Melissa Foster’s Love in Bloom series.  This is however the 1st book for the Braden’s, and after finishing this book, I cannot wait to read more of the rest of this family.  When we last left off in Sisters in White, we had met Treat Braden, whom we knew from that book that Max Armstrong would be the woman who would change his life.

Treat is a wealthy owner of various resorts, dedicated to his work, and his family.   He met Max at the wedding in Sisters in White, and now 6 months later, he cannot get her out of his head.  He knows he made a mistake back then, when he jumped to the wrong conclusion, and hurt Max, but he wants to find her and make amends.  Max, who works for Chaz, our hero in book 2, is a strong independent woman in the work world, but very sensitive in private.  As destined, the two accidentally run into each other at a film festival in Colorado, where both happen to live.

The sexual chemistry between them is so hot and intense;  with both unable to resist each other.  Treat knows right away that Max is the woman he has been waiting for all his life, though he is afraid of commitment; especially seeing how his father fell apart at the death of his wife, Treat’s mother.  Max herself has her own secret issues of her past that make her also afraid to trust any relationship.  What follows is a beautiful, passionate, tense, and very steamy story of two people who fall very much in love with each other.  Though throughout the story, there were a number times their issues would separate them again, with Max constantly afraid of total commitment, though she knew she loved Treat.  We learn that years before, Max has a terrible experience with a relationship that left her scarred and frightened to do it again.  She finally tells Treat the truth, and he is so wonderful and careful with her.

Just when you thought they would finally commit, Max does another silly thing that made us want to smack her, and Treat steps back to give her freedom.  It is the wonderful Braden family who are so great, that help Treat realize he has to fight for Max.  On the other side, I loved the friendship between Max and Kaylie, our awesome Snow sister from the earlier books.  Just watching Kaylie teach Max how to turn on any man was so much fun.

Melissa Foster does it again, with another wonderful book in this series, and this one is even steamier then the last one.  But of course, when you have a hot couple like Max and Treat, you expect nothing more.  If you want a beautiful romance, with hot steamy sex scenes, a sexy couple; and a family oriented background; look no further then Lovers at Heart.  I am loving this series by Melissa Foster.

ABOUT Daniel: Daniel Sobieray is a California native, born in Newport Beach, California. He currently resides in Los Angeles. Daniel grew up in Colorado and was very active in sports from an early age. After accepting a scholarship to Michigan for Ice Hockey, Daniel graduated with a B.A in Finance and Economics. Daniel was approached by a top talent agency to model for many well known designers in Europe and was a regular on the runway from 2006-2009. In 2010, Daniel was asked to be in the popular day time soap All My Children.

The Reading Cafe would like to introduce Daniel Sobieray!

TRC: Hi Daniel and welcome to The Reading Cafe.

We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Daniel: I grew up in Colorado and was very active in all sports as a child.

Daniel Sobieray pic 1

TRC: What were your dreams and aspirations growing up as a child?

Daniel: I wanted to play in the NHL as a child growing up.

TRC: Your image was first brought to our attention by way of the ‘romance covers’ so many of us read and review. How did you get started in the
cover model industry? Do you remember the first novel where your image appeared?

Daniel Sobieray collage

Daniel: I started modeling in college and when I was done with school I moved to Europe to continue modeling. I was in many fitness magazines and did many runways shows in Europe then was offered to work on a soap opera All my Children so that brought me back to Los Angeles. I have been on so many covers of books and magazines I can’t remember the date or the 1st cover but it was when I still was in college. A girl in a class of mine had it and asked if it was really me? I thought that’s was so cool.

Daniel Sobieray coversTRC: The romance novel industry has dramatically increased in popularity over the past few years. Do you think the cover illustrations and ‘hero depictions’ have pushed the industry in such a way, that the reader’s imaginations can be fueled by the representation on the cover?

Daniel: I think that with the computer and the ability to build backgrounds the cover possibilities are endless. They give a set up to the story so the reader can put a face to the characters they are reading about. Also you will see many more videos are being made with the cover this to help show the reader the characters and set up the story before they even but the book.

Daniel Sobieray 3TRC: Do you know on how many romance covers your image has appeared?

Daniel: I am not sure but a lot more than 50 I would guess.

TRC: Nudity in the modeling industry can be very controversial. Photographs can range from sensual and sexual to bordering on pornographic. What is your opinion regarding nude photography?

Daniel: This is all art in a way so I feel that if you are comfortable to do the job being asked then go for it. I am not big on shooting nude for myself but for the right project anything is possible.

First ContactTRC: What advice would you give to young and up and coming models in the industry about nude photography?

Daniel: Trusting your instinct will be your best guide. Don’t do anything you feel isn’t right and just remember there will be many more jobs, so don’t take it ‘as the only job I can do or if I don’t so this it won’t lead to more work’. Not true; be yourself; work hard and love what you do and you should be just fine.

TRC: Many photographers and models travel to exotic locals and destinations for shoots. What has been your most memorable shoot and why? Good or bad?

Daniel: Oh man, haha, the bad ones are always more memorable. I have had too many bad experiences but one time we shot on a huge yacht and it broke down in the ocean and took 12 hrs or so to get going. That was a very long day.

Daniel Sobieray pic 2TRC: Who is your ‘go to person’ for inspiration and support?

Daniel: My mother

TRC: What do you do when you are not modeling? e.g. hobbies, work-related.

Daniel: I like to surf and play the piano. I also have a really cool garden that I like to spend time working on .

Miranda sneaks home after a long absence, determined to avoid her former fiance. But Hunter wants far more than his old role as brother-in-law-to-be. Abundant Christmas spirit, matchmaking mothers, and hometown holiday celebrations conspire against Miranda’s plans for a quiet, at-home Christmas. Her heart doesn’t stand a chance.

••••••••••••••••

When I was a kid, I loved reading Laura Ingalls Wilder Little House on the Prairie books. This Christmas story reminded me of that time. This was a very romantic Christmas story, complete with horse and buggy rides in the snow, playing secret Santa to deserving families and the type of love story that will weather any storm.

When Miranda thought she had found her happy ever after with Warren, she is stunned when he ends their relationship on their wedding day. She leaves town for three years, trying to recover from the embarrassment and the lose of her love. She decides to come home for the holidays although she is apprehensive about seeing Warren. What she didn’t expect was Warren’s brother would be the one to show her what love really is. Hunter has loved Miranda for years but never told Miranda out of respect of his brother. But now that Miranda is back and he has a chance to love her, he refuses to let her get away.

This is a very sweet and romantic story. It’s perfect for Christmas time and has the happy ending that we all love to read about.
