Scottish Brides – Where Regency elegance meets Highland passion!

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

OH MY! Nicola Cornick gets a little naughty! I LOVE IT! 🙂

One Night with the Laird is the second book in her Scottish Brides series. We were introduced to Jack in her first book so we already have a taste of his bad boy, tortured soul, attractive and compelling self. I was really looking forward to his book and I feel extremely satisfied with his story. Nicola Cornick didn’t take the easy way out and pair him up with a sweet virginal woman who can change his wicked ways … nope … she went with a woman who is herself tortured, unapologetic and his perfect match! Lady Mairi MacLeod.

After one night of crazy, uninhibited passion, Mairi wakes to discover that her lover under the mask just so happens to be a man she has promised to stay away from. Jack Rutherford. Knowing this will only bring drama, she sneaks out and disappears for months. Jack cannot shake this encounter from his mind. He is completely distracted with thoughts and questions about his one night stand.

When Mairi and Jack are invited to a house party, Jack comes to realize who Mairi is. She is not only the pain in his rear, stick up her butt, proper lady whom he can’t stand, she is the woman who insisted he cut of her clothes, raked her nails down his back, sweet smelling perfect woman. Now he needs to truely conquer and seduce her. Perhaps though, Mairi is the seducer and is always keeping Jack on his toes.

When a blackmailer comes into the picture threatening to spill the beans on secrets that Mairi hold close, Jack feels it necessary to protect her. Danger lurks as these two find their way to peace together, but not before the fires are stoked and both become so invested in the other, it rewrites all they stood for.

Okay … this book straddled the line between romance and erotica. If you read erotica, you will likely not be surprised but if you don’t, there are a few scenes that may go beyond what one is use to reading in this genre. I happen to absolutely love that and have to say the chemistry between these two almost blew up my e-reader. LOL I was sucked right into the story, fell in love with both lead characters, and enjoyed their journey to each other.

HAPPY READING! 🙂

M A Abraham Banner

The Reading Cafe is happy to welcome back M.A. Abraham. M.A. is is here today to discuss her new release, Embracing the Light. She will also tell us what she has in store for us in 2014.

Interview-Blue

TRC: Hi M.A.  Thank you for taking the time to visit us again at The Reading Cafe, and to give us an update on your new releases, as well as what else you may have upcoming in 2014.

M.A.:  Thank you for having me Barb, always uplifting to be here.  I have a full year planned and it looks like it will be one filled with Elves … I am working on a few new ideas, but they will be for 2015 so not a part of this.  My release list for 2014 is as follows ‘Return of the Legend’ Book 5 of the Elven Chronicles Feb.11/14 … ‘Guardians of the Future’ Novella on the Children of the Elven Chronicles Apr. 23/14 … ‘My Darling, Janice’ Historical Romance June 20/14 … ‘Champions’ Scifi/fantasy Aug 1/14 … ‘King’s Daughter’ Book 6 of the Elven Chronicles Sept 20/14 … ‘Lúthien’s Song’ Book 7 of the Elven Chronicles Nov. 3/14 … ‘Living in the Light’ Dec. 7/14 Novella on the children of the Elven Chronicles.

I know it sounds ambitious, but most of it is written already.

TRC: You have just released a holiday novella, Embracing the Light, which is part of your Elven Chronicles series. Can you please give us a brief description of this story?

Embracing The Light.Dec 3:13jpgM.A.:  Embracing the Light is a novella on the Elven toddlers, yes they are getting older, and so mischievously cute.  It starts in the morning on the day of the celebration and has Gabriel and Eden taking care of the little tykes… and they are a bundle of energy, all 24 or so of them… The story runs through attacks on mom and dad in bed first thing in the morning – to tickle times – to food fights – to fun in the snow – and later in the day the celebration with a few surprises for the little ones and visits from other Elves for the others.  In all there is no other word that suits this story than it being a romp – though I do use the words pandemonium and hedge on using riot at times.

If you have not read last year’s wonderful Christmas novella, Celebration of LIght, it is now free on Amazon & Barnes & Noble

TRC: How many books are you planning for the Elven Chronicles?

M.A.:  At this time, after ‘Lúthien’s Song’ I have 2 full novels in mind, and approximately 4 novellas.  ‘Tratchars’ Book 8 of the Elven Chronicles … ‘Eärwen’s Song’ Book 9 of the Elven Chronicles.  The novellas will probably be as follows: 2 of the novellas about the celebration while the other 2 will be about S’Larea and Larien, but things have been known to change.

Theory in DepthTRC:  Last month, you released a standalone book, Theory in Depth.  Can you give a brief description of this book, and how did you come up with the premise of this novel?

M.A.:  I wrote the main storyline for ‘Theory in Depth’ when I was 16 after watching a documentary on artificial insemination.  (And yes I know how much of a geek that makes me sound.) I was fascinated by the concept and this is what came out of it.  I can’t tell you how much I researched to find out more about the subject and how often I came up empty.

The storyline revolved around the thought… “As man was created from the depths of the seas, it is logical to assume that someday man should be able to return.”  The question that followed was; what if evolution was given a push?  What if mankind could find or develop a formula that proved it could be done?  What if someone connected the genes from specific mammals to create a living person who was capable of living both on land and in the sea, only to find out that there were others like her?  When a scientist does that and realizes what he has done, he is faced with not only the results, but the ramifications.  He cannot tell anyone because mankind does not respond favorably to things like this, and lets face it, he has played God, and that is not a good thing. He raises her alone for 15 years, then realizes they can’t hide forever and puts her in the care of his brother and her cousin thinking she will be safe as she learns how to cope with the world around her, what follows is 3-4 years of discovery where she learns about the others as well as a world where she will never fit in.

TRC:  In this past year, you have written quite a few books. How do you come up with all these ideas, and what is your writing process (time, where, etc)?

M.A.:  I borrow a few from my past, but most I have written fresh.  They just tend to pop up, and crowd into my mind… making that part of my anatomy very uncomfortable to have on my shoulders sometimes.  I will write at any time of the day, or night as the inspiration strikes. I can be talking to a family member about where I am in the book I am currently writing on and be at an impasse, and the story keeps going as I talk, I suddenly know where I am headed and how to get there.

TRC: What are you currently working on now? Also, would you like to share with us what you may have upcoming in 2014?

M.A.:  ‘Return of the Legend’ is finished and already in book form.  I am finished ‘Guardians of the Future’ and it is in edits.  I am writing ‘King’s Daughter’, ‘Lúthien’s Song’, and by the time anyone reads this I will be finished ‘Living in the Light’. I am also working on another that I call ‘Tantalus’ but that is a whole new series destined for either 2015 or 2016.  At this time, however, I am saying please, only one year at a time, lol.  A taste of each?

‘Return of the Legend’

Elrohir threw back his head and burst out laughing.  He loved the irony of the situation.  All the great scholars of his Kingdom strutted around like a flock of peacocks at the honor the ancients had trusted them with, and the ancients were now telling them that this was not how it was at all.  This was the ancient’s way of showing them how to insert a little humbleness in their lives, that they were no better or worse than any other Elf.  He could live with that, but he wondered how many of the others from the High Kingdom would take the news.

Elrohir got himself back under control and began to read anew.

“The library is not to be moved from the fortress, this is the ancestral location of the scrolls and if you attempt to relocate them you will destroy the spells that keep them fresh and legible.  Remember this always.  We have surrounded our work in stone to keep them safe from discovery.  The beauty that you expected from the world that was reputed to surround the scrolls are not in the building that surrounds them, but the city that surrounds the fortress.  We have left the plans open for viewing so that our vision of grace and beauty can be rebuilt in years to come.

We know the first things the Demons will destroy when we are gone will be the homes we loved.  They will not want us to dwell in beauty.  Their belief is that by destroying all that we value they can destroy our spirit.  They do not understand that there is no value in things, only in the light that guides our souls.

I am Lothrariel, Warrior King of the Ancients.  And to my sons, and their sons, I bequeath this trust.  Keep our faith.”

‘Guardians of the Future’

Gabriel tossed Marious a sour look and replied.  “I seem to remember one Elven diplomat who was more than happy to join in with a portion of the spell the second time around.”

“Not denying it and my contribution to your class is in line with the others.”  Marious added with a cheeky grin.

“Good, you can help with the training.”  Gabriel quickly decided.

“We have lots of help.”  Larek informed Gabriel.  “Any of the parents who are not otherwise occupied have been ordered to teach.  We are to take turns so no one suffers from the newly allocated classes.”

Gabriel merely grunted as he took note of several of the parents standing watch over the children.  Something had triggered this order over the last three days and he wondered what it was.  He didn’t have to ask.  Marious knew exactly what was going through his mind.

“It started with wolf races, escalated with a Unicorn stampede and ended with them skinny dipping at the river.”

Gabriel winced as he glared at his sons.  They were standing at attention at the head of the first four rows.  They noticed and immediately turned a guilty shade of red as if they knew their father wasn’t happy about something they had done.  They also knew there would be no defense they could come up with that would save them from what he was about to put them through.  They were dead Elves.

‘My Darling, Janice’

“An eighteen year old, school room Miss?”  Jeremy scoffed with an exaggerated air of disbelief.  He had three sisters of his own and he was of the firm opinion that younger sisters were nothing more than complete nuisances.

Martin knew all this, but remembering his favorite sister’s character, he felt compelled to disagree.  “Perhaps I should enlighten you as to what my sister is like Jeremy, for in all fairness, you should not meet her with a biased opinion of the female sex.  Not only has Janice been out of the schoolroom for over two years but she is fluent in five languages.  She is quick witted, intelligent, charming and graceful.  Last year she was the undisputed toast of Viennese society.  I am personally looking forward to her visit.”

These gems of information caught the attention of the young master Jeremy and he leaned forward to quiz his host.

“So why is this paragon of virtue coming to London?”

“One,” Martin held up a perfectly manicured finger to emphasize his first point, as well as to start a count.  “To see me.  Two,” He held up another finger in continuance, “because this year, our baby sister will be introduced into society.  As Janice refused every offer for her hand last year father decided it better to send her away, rather than risk the embarrassment of having two daughters as rivals.”

‘King’s Daughter’

Aredhel didn’t have time to make a sound as a hand snaked across her mouth.  At the same time another arm wound around her mid-drift to pull her back against a solid body of muscle and steel.  Before she recovered from that surprise she found herself turned around and pressed against the rock wall of the cave.  She moved as if to object and all her objections were silenced with a kiss.

Aredhel’s initial objection died quickly.  How could any man feel as hard as steel, yet kiss with lips so soft?  A million questions cascaded through her mind.  Who was he?  What did he want from her?  Why was he kissing her?  What did he look like?  Did she know him?  Why did he hide himself in darkness?  She wanted to know these things and more.  She moved her lips from his to ask, but was quickly warned not to speak.

“Shh, Aredhel.  If you say anything we are dead Elves.”  Liessen warned.  His voice was no more than a breath in her ear, letting her know how desperately serious the threat around them was.

‘Lúthien’s Song’

The darkness moved closer and Lúthien stifled a fear-filled whimper.  She could see the Elves who were carrying the danger closer and she felt a need to reach out to the one who was infected with the malady.  Even from where she stood she could tell he was in serious shape and her heart filled with sorrow.

“Haylo,” Lúthien didn’t realize she spoke aloud until Haylo stood by her side and clasped her hand.

“I am here, Lúthien,” Haylo assured the frightened healer.  “We can do this together.”

“His body needs as much healing as his mind.  He will need both of us in the beginning.”  Lúthien spoke as her eyes followed the progression of the group of Elves carrying the liter.

As the bearers of the body grew closer Lúthien began to hum very lightly and a quiet light seemed to shine from her.  She would have to be careful.  She could see the bandages that covered her patient’s eyes.  He had been kept from the healing rays of the sun for a long time.  It would take a miracle to bring him back.  She was determined not to fail.

‘Living in the Light’

“I almost feel guilty about messing that up.”  Branith admitted in an uncharacteristic statement.

“Well I certainly don’t.”  Eden answered with a chuckle as she shouted a challenge to everyone in hearing distance.  “Last Elf to the top is a rotten egg.”

As quickly as she spoke the words Eden sprinted off towards the top of the hill with most of the rest of their group in hot pursuit.  About half way to her destination she did a quick check over her shoulder to see how everyone was doing and noted Gabriel and Marious standing at the bottom, where they had started off.  Lifting her face to the sky as she continued to lead the pack Eden yelled so they could hear.

“That includes both you and Marious, Gabriel.  Remember, rotten eggs sleep where no one can smell them.”

Marious and Gabriel could not only hear Eden’s taunt, but Tamarak’s laughter.  They exchanged a grin and sprung into action.  They wouldn’t be left in the cold and Gabriel knew that if he didn’t move fast enough Eden wouldn’t only hold to her threat, but the Sentinel would reinforce her declaration.

TRC: Snoop, your cat is almost as famous as you?  Does Snoop help you when you are writing.  🙂

M.A.:  Snoop likes to curl up beside me when he gets the chance and purr, especially if I decide to sit up in bed to write.  Better yet, he likes to drape himself across my shoulders or on my shoulder as I try to write.  Barring the preferable places he will satisfy himself with my lap, or beside me, as long as I have a blanket where he can be covered to keep warm.  As for being as famous as I am, that is a fallacy… he is MORE famous… and he would be the first to tell you so.  He is THE pussycat and the star of my blog. Lol.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

M.A. It is always a pleasure to be on your site, enjoy the feeling of camaraderie and welcome.  I would also love to wish everyone the best of the season, and Elven blessings in 2014, may it be filled with health, happiness and wonder.  May the light guide your spirit and fill your soul with love.

TRC:  Thank you, M.A. for giving us an update on what we can look forward to in 2014, and we wish you the best with both Theory in Depth & Embracing the Light.

Description:
The toddlers are spending the day at Gabriel and Eden’s and as they gather they find a new speed… supersonic… in the way of toddlers the world over there is nothing slower, and they are ready to challenge the world. Marious’ sons are there, proving the adage, “like father like sons” and Gabriel’s sons, are another chip off the block. The girls are not going to allow the boys to show them up, and are quite capable of rising to the challenge. It doesn’t take long for the competition to begin. Of course there are those who don’t feel the need to compete, they are just there for the fun. Some may even get a glimpse into their future, and others are already showing signs of being haunted by powers they will never be able to live with easily.

As the day progresses Daroth begins to welcome his guests to the festival as everyone is interested to see what this new tradition is all about. They have heard a lot about this festival of Daroth’s. Will it live up to their expectations? Would the people in their Kingdoms enjoy it too? All these questions and more are answered in this wild romp as Marious and Branith lead their band of merrymakers into the crowd for a little fun, and with those two in the lead you can’t help but ask, is anyone safe? The toddlers are definitely ready to join the celebration as they follow their leader into the spirit of the season as they all prepare to ‘Embrace The Light’

Review:

Embracing the Light by M.A. Abraham is a Christmas themed novella, in her Elven Chronicles series. Abraham, last year, gave us a look at the Elves first celebration of their version of Christmas, with Celebration of Light. Embracing the Light was a delightful and fun book to read. I found myself laughing early on, and the young children played like the warriors their families are.

All the children from the characters we have come to love, Gabriel & Eden, Marious and Tamarak, Haylo & Larek, Torrent and Serenity, Daroth & C’liandra, etc.  It was hilarious to see them gang up at different times on their parents, and others. Just the shout of “attack” had everyone run for cover. 25 or so little bodies were enough to bury the strongest warrior.

This is a simple sweet enjoyable and fun read at the perfect time for the holidays.  Many of the other kings, and their families showed up to find out for themselves what this annual celebration entailed, and everyone had fun.

It is hard to write a review, as the description above explains all.  I will end with this…if you want a fast book that is mindless fun, nothing tense, pure family type of entertainment and to visit our beloved elves again..look no further then Embracing the Light.   I enjoyed it thoroughly.  M.A. Abraham has given us some joy to spend during the holidays.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 13, 2013

The Third Daughter of the Queen wants her birthday to arrive so she’ll be free to marry for love, but rumors of a new flying weapon may force her to accept a barbarian prince’s proposal for a peace-brokering marriage. Desperate to marry the charming courtesan she loves, Aniri agrees to the prince’s proposal as a subterfuge in order to spy on him, find the weapon, and hopefully avoid both war and an arranged marriage to a man she does not love.

Third Daughter is the first book in The Dharian Affairs Trilogy (Third Daughter, Second Daughter, First Daughter). This steampunk-goes-to-Bollywood (Bollypunk!) romance takes place in an east-indian-flavored alternate world filled with skyships, saber duels, and lots of royal intrigue. And, of course, kissing.

excerpt 1

From Chapter One, Third Daughter (The Dharian Affairs #1) – steampunk fantasy romance

The cloudless night whispered sweet promises to Aniri.

Below her stone rooftop, the shadows of the forested grounds danced in the summer’s breeze, their small rustlings calling to her like a lover. The sound was the perfect cover for escape into the darkness and the warm arms she hoped to find there. No one should notice her absence. Of all the guards, handmaidens, and many silent keepers of the royal household, none would venture up to her private observatory this late in the eve. But she still had to be careful. Even this close to her birthday, the Queen would not be forgiving if she was caught.

Aniri scanned the palace grounds to make sure it was clear of any witnesses. The manicured lawns were empty: the only sign of life came from the distant embassy windows where gas lamps flickered and soft music trilled from late-reveling partygoers. Aniri pressed the leather eyecup of her aetherscope to her face, slowly turning the brass knobs to bring the party into focus. The instrument was meant for watching the rise of the twin full moons, but it worked well enough for spying on the Samirian ambassador and her assemblage of guests.

Their shiny new automaton was thick-legged and awkward, but the Samirian tinker’s design was still clever: the steam-driven mechanical wonder actually danced, albeit just one clumsy pirouette after another. When it came to a graceless stop, the guests snapped their fingers in appreciation. The faint sound of their applause drifted over the lawn, but the party continued on. With the grounds still empty, Aniri swung her aetherscope to the forest. The broken edges of the river snaked through the darkened trees, slipped under a stone bridge, and then flowed past the red sandstone walls of the Queen’s estate. A black shape darted out from under the bridge, then disappeared into the shadows between the trees.

Time to go.

About The Author

Susan Kaye QuinnSusan Kaye Quinn grew up in California, where she wrote snippets of stories and passed them to her friends during class. Her teachers pretended not to notice and only confiscated her stories a couple times.

Susan left writing behind to pursue a bunch of engineering degrees, but she was drawn back to writing by an irresistible urge to share her stories with her niece, her kids, and all the wonderful friends she’s met along the way.

She doesn’t have to sneak her notes anymore, which is too bad.

Susan writes from the Chicago suburbs with her three boys, two cats, and one husband. Which, it turns out, is exactly as a much as she can handle.

Reckoning

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 2013

Remorse…
All Sean Kincaid wanted was to use his Special Operative skills to bring a domestic terrorist to justice. But he left a trail of bodies in his wake: foes, colleagues – and an innocent woman. Now he’s pursued by enemies while desperately searching for a way to make amends.

Revenge…
Deirdre Monahan was expecting a happy afternoon with her cousin Anna. But she found a corpse abandoned like trash – and no one who could tell her why. Now Deirdre’s looking for answers and bent on giving whoever killed Anna the gift of knowing Deirdre’s pain.

In Ashes, Sean sacrificed everything. In this thrilling sequel, there will be… a Reckoning.

•••••••••••••••••

Reckoning by Kelly Cozy is the second book after Ashes. If you read my review of ASHES, you would know how much I loved that story. My review ended with me yelling at my e-reader because the story was over. I would’ve given anything to have more pages to read the way that story ended! I honestly didn’t think Reckoning could be as suspenseful and attention getting as the first book. I was so glad to be wrong about that. Reckoning was another roller coaster ride of suspense and intrigue, just like Ashes. There are more characters, more twists and turns to the plot, more action…..you name it, it’s in Reckoning.

Sean Kincaid did what he wanted to do, he brought a domestic terrorist to justice. But the trail of bodies he left behind had him feeling remorseful and determined to make amends. He had hurt innocent people in the process of the journey and all he wanted to do was make it right, if that was even possible. Deirdre Monahan was devastated to find her beloved cousin Anna dead. Who could do this and why? She was determined to find Anna’s killer and bring a little justice of her own. Sean and Deirdre are on a collision course to meet and change each other’s lives forever.

It’s so hard to write a review for this book and not give away too much of the story. I loved it. LOVED IT. I never knew what was going to happen next, the plot twists were amazing. Kelly Cozy brought in more characters and spun the story in such an intriguing way. I could not even try to predict what would happen next. How is it possible to feel sorrow and empathy for the killer that Sean Kincaid is? It’s possible when you have a storyteller that can weave such a magic web with words. I’ve always been a “romance” reader. Give me a guy, a girl, some action and a happy ever after and I’m content. Kelly’s books have greatly expanded what I want to read now. I would’ve never thought I would love reading “keep you on the edge of your seat” books, but these stories have changed that for me. Kelly Cozy’s writing gets a high five, two thumbs up and a huge fist bump from this reader. I will be a fan of Kelly Cozy forever.

As their dark pasts collide, the two unlikely lovers find themselves caught in a web of danger and deceit that neither of them might survive.

The Edge of Darkness, where hunter becomes hunted, no one can be trusted, and love is the most dangerous game of them all

••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: EDGE OF DARKNESS is the fourth instalment in J.T.Geissinger’s paranormal, romance Night Prowlers series focusing on the elusive shape-shifting panther species known as the Ikati. Edge of Darkness continues on the theme from book three-Rapture’s Edge-where a warring faction of Ikati ruled by a power hungry non-shifter of the species, known as Caesar, intends to reveal their existence to the world. This is Ember (September) Jones and Christian McLoughlin’s storyline and I think one of J.T.’s best.

Ember is a woman whose heavy guilt over the car accident that killed her mother and brother has left her emotionally and physically crippled. Believing herself responsible for their deaths, Ember has lived in a world surrounded by books and the knowledge that pain is her only companion. But when a beautiful and exotic looking man enters her bookstore looking for a one of a kind first edition, Ember knows that she is facing a true assassin-and someone definitely not human.

Christian is an Ikati shifter on a suicide mission to save his own kind and take down the man who has destroyed everything they worked hard to protect. But a chance run-in with the human woman known as September Jones has called to his inner panther. He knows that she is his mate but his first priority it to protect the Ikati from a dangerous man. With a handful of assassins on the hunt for the Ikati, Christian is willing to risk his life to protect those he loves including the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Ember and Christian is slow to build as the couple dance around one another throughout most of the book. Ember is a woman so mired in guilt, depression and self-depracation that the character was initially difficult to like. She is a woman considered average-if not plain-in the looks and body and, in this it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. Her self esteem is so low that eating is tiresome; dressing up is a chore; and suicide is always a thought or bomb away.

J.T.Geissinger has written a storyline where one species struggles to remain hidden in a world full of humans –a world of hunters and assassins-who want nothing more than to destroy the beast within. As Christian hunts for the man responsible for the destruction of so many lives-Ember will ensure that Christian remains alive while she sacrifices her life for the man she loves.

EDGE OF DARKNESS is a storyline with depictions of graphic torture, violence and a look at the ramifications of PTSD and depression. It is also a story about forbidden love between two people from different worlds and a second chance at life for a woman who stopped living the day her family died.

J.T.Geissinger pulls the reader into a gritty, realistic and heartbreaking storyline that will forever be etched into your heart and your soul. Edge of Darkness is an amazing and fantastic addition to the Night Prowler series-and Christian McLoughlin is the alpha male that every woman needs in her life.

I also want to add that Edge of Darkness reveals some of the backstory and history of the Ikati species and how they came to be. This, for me, is always a powerful motivator to continue a series when the author takes the reader into consideration as he/she writes the story.

Shadow's EdgeDeep within the primeval forests of southern England, a race of beautiful, savage shape-shifters lives hidden from the everyday world. Bound together by ancient bloodlines and a ruthless code of secrecy that punishes traitors with death, the Ikati send their leader Leander on a mission to capture one raised outside the tribe before she can expose their secret. When Leander tracks the unsuspecting outsider to Southern California, the hardened warrior is prepared for a fight—but not for the effect the sensual young beauty has on his heart.

Jenna spent her childhood in hiding, on the run from someone—or something—her parents refused to discuss. She trusts no one, not since her father’s mysterious disappearance, not since her mother’s sudden death, and definitely not since she began exhibiting strange, superhuman abilities. When handsome, enigmatic Leander appears, promising answers to the mysteries that shroud her past, she knows she shouldn’t trust him either. But their connection is undeniable, and as powerful as the enemy hell-bent on destroying every one of their kind…

And they will hide no longer.

BETRAYALS…Eliana lives for two things only: vengeance on the man who killed her father, and seeing his dream of living in the open with humans come to pass. SEDUCTION…Demetrius is haunted by the memory of the woman he once loved. He will risk everything to save her from the killers on her tail…and convince her, before the ancient walls between two worlds crumble, that only together can they defeat their real enemy, a brilliant, cunning traitor far more deadly than either of them can guess.

About The Author Black and yellow

J.T.GeissingerJ.T. Geissinger’s debut novel, Shadow’s Edge, was published in 2012 and was a #1 Amazon US and UK bestseller in fantasy romance and romance series. She has been nominated for the prestigious RITA® award from the Romance Writers of America for best paranormal romance for her second book in the Night Prowler series, Edge of Oblivion.

A life-long lover of reading and a self-professed “book addict,” she didn’t realize her dream of writing a novel until a milestone birthday forced her to take stock of her goals in life. Always believing the right time to commit to putting pen to paper would magically announce itself, it took waking up one cold January morning with a shiny new zero as the second number in her age to kick start her determination.

Starting on that very day, she wrote what would become Shadow’s Edge in a little over four months and submitted it to several literary agents. Nothing happened. Thinking that was the end of that but by no means willing to give up on her dreams of being published, she began work on a second manuscript.

Then, during a trip to Italy in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary and the honeymoon she and her husband never took, she received an email that would change her life. It was from an agent, Marlene Stringer of Stringer Literary, and it contained the three words every aspiring author longs to hear: “I loved it.”

Marlene sold the manuscript to Montlake Romance who published it six months later. Hitting the #1 Amazon bestseller lists within weeks of publication, Shadow’s Edge was book one of the Night Prowler novels. Book two, Edge of Oblivion, was published in October 2012 and will be followed by Rapture’s Edge in June 2013, and Edge of Darkness in fall 2013. There are six books total planned for the series.

Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein-a review

SNEAKING CANDY by Lisa Burstein-a review

Sneaking Candy

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 9, 2013

All I ever wanted was to make a name for myself as Candice Salinas, creative writing grad student at the University of Miami. Of course, secretly I already have made a name for myself: as Candy Sloane, self-published erotic romance writer. Though thrilled that my books are selling and I have actual fans, if anyone at UM found out, I could lose my scholarship…and the respect of my faculty advisor, grade-A-asshole Professor Dylan.

Enter James Walker, super-hot local barista and—surprise!—my student. Even though I know a relationship is totally off-limits, I can’t stop myself from sneaking around with James, taking a few cues from my own erotic writing…if you catch my drift. Candy’s showing her stripes for the first time in my real life, and I’ve never had so much fun. But when the sugar high fades, can my secrets stay under wraps?

REVIEW: SNEAKING CANDY by Lisa Burstein is a new adult, contemporary romance storyline focusing on twenty two year old Candice Salinas and James Walker. Candice is a full time student at the University of Miami, working on her Master’s thesis and a TA for the handsome yet irritating Professor Anthony Dylan. But life on campus is about to get complicated when a chance meeting at school would reveal that her latest love interest is her new student; her professor begins to unravel the true identity behind a romance author; and her thesis presentation is about to be sabotaged by rumors and innuendo of late night trysts and forbidden romance.

Candice knows a thing or two about betrayal and rejection. She left New York to pursue an education and degree in writing much to the disappointment of her parents and ex boyfriend. Meeting James Walker put everything into perspective-a new life; a new start and a the possibility of a new love but then everything falls apart when James is the newest transfer student assigned to Candice’s class.

The storyline follows Candice and James as their forbidden desires and relationship begin to take on a life of its’ own. James is everything Candice’s parents would despise and he is the forbidden fruit as far as the university ethics committee would agree. But there is more to Candice than a relationship with James. Candice has a secret that could also put her scholarship in jeopardy if discovered and Professor Dylan is going to use this information to his advantage. But James has a plan and one that will require a twist in the truth about Professor Dylan and reality that is life for his TA and all of those that came before.

Sneaking Candy is a storyline of forbidden desires, betrayal of trust and the misuse of power by the people in charge. The relationship between James and Candice is sensual and sexual and the excitement is additionally charged by the perceived wrongness of their actions and forbidden love.

The secondary characters including Candice’s best friend and muse Amanda are colorful and I hope there is a potential for future storylines.

Lisa Burstein pulls the reader into a fast paced, well-written, interesting storyline where the attraction between two people cannot be tempered by the rule and regulations that govern their lives. Both Candice and James are consenting adults but the appearances of impropriety have far reaching consequences for more than just our leading couple. Candice will be forced to confront the truth about appearances when the reality is not even close but in doing so, will reveal the love one man has for the woman who has captured his heart and soul. Sneaking Candy is a story of forbidden love with a little humor, romance, sensuality and  a HEA.

Objection

One year ago, I graduated from law school and embarked on a career as a purveyor of high priced legal shenanigans.

Six months ago, my boyfriend dumped me when I thought he might be proposing.

Two weeks ago, I got drunk and joined a secret sex club.

Two days ago, I had a torrid one-night stand with a stranger.

Today? Well, today I’m contemplating having an affair with my boss.

Matt Connover is all kinds of forbidden temptation wrapped up in a deliciously wicked package, and he’s made it clear… he’s only interested in sex.

My name is McKayla Dawson but everyone calls me Mac. I work at the powerhouse firm of Connover & Crown, LLP, where the law has never felt so hot.

But between you and me, I’m afraid my heart won’t survive these Legal Affairs.

Excerpt

NOTE:  Excerpt is for mature audiences. Not recommended for anyone under 18 years of age.

I’m frozen in place. I have to clue what to do.

Yes, I have hormones, pheromones, and even just good old, run-of-the-mill moans stuck in the back of my throat, which are on the verge of busting loose. My mind whirls… what did Matt meant by that statement?

Do I slap him or jump him?

We stare at each other… his eyes blazing an inferno of desire, mine probably reflecting the “deer in the headlights” look.

Swallowing hard, I say, “I think—”

Matt lunges at me, catching me with one arm around my waist and the other swiping across my desk, sending binders, papers, folders, pens, a tape dispenser, a stapler, two legal pads and a box of paper clips flying to the floor. “Don’t say a f*cking word, McKayla. Just don’t.”

Pushing one of his rock hard thighs in between my legs, he bends me back onto my desk and settles against me, raising both hands now to cup my face. My heart is on the verge of exploding in my chest, and only two things fill my mind.

First, please, please, please kiss me, Matt.

Second, please, please, please don’t let me have a heart attack before he does.

I’m saved on both concerns as Matt pours lust, desire, anger, and passion into a kiss that causes my toes to curl against the flip-flops, which are barely clinging to my feet after I was practically thrown onto my desk.

My tongue is shy at first, but it only takes Matt one tiny rock of his hips against mine, and then it’s on.

We kiss like we never kissed on that one night we spent together. It is filled with not only yearning, but with a bit of frustration and shame that we have no control over our actions.

This is wrong… we both know it.
