Description:
Aisling of Bruadair is frantic to find both the truth about her future and a mercenary to save her country. When an offer of aid comes from an unexpected direction, she is relieved her quest is almost complete. But she soon realizes her task is far from over . . . and will include perils she never dreamed she would ever face.

Rùnach of Ceangail has offered to help Aisling with her quest, then he fully intends to take up his life as a simple swordsman far from magic and evil mages. Unfortunately, a chance finding of a book of indecipherable spells tells him that an ordinary life is never going to be his–especially when he realizes that the book he has in his hands belongs to a black mage who will stop at nothing to have it back.

With time running out, Rùnach and Aisling must solve what seem to be unrelated mysteries before others find those answers first and plunge the Nine Kingdoms into a darkness it will never recover from . .

Review:

River of Dreams, written by Lynn Kurland, is the highly anticipated 8th installment into the fantastic Nine Kingdom’s series.  It is Book # 2 of the third trilogy; following the quest of Runach of Ceingail and Aisling of Bruadair.  If I could describe this caliber of writing in only one sentence, I would state that these books are like music…a rhapsody not for the ears, but for the eyes.  Lynn Kurland is perhaps the only author I have ever contemplated buying the audio version, over the written–simply so I can listen to her phonetic style of pen being read aloud.  I have never come across such lyricism before, and therefore cannot accurately describe.   It is a signature stamp of authenticity, if you will, for the old world feeling one receives upon visiting a series such as this, and something a reader must personally experience, in order to fully understand.

For anyone who has ever wondered at what the “romantic” side of the Fantasy genre has to offer, I urge you to pick up these books.  And furthermore, I dare you not to love every second you spend reading them.  As a long time patron of Fantasy…I cannot get enough of this series, and would recommend them to any, and all types of readers.   Although it could be said, that this novel differed from the non-stop action level found in some of the other work of this series, Ms. Kurland maintains a superb balance with intriguing mystery, heart rending emotion, and tenderness.  While I found myself laughing more so with the previous installment Dreamspinner, than with any other novel of the series…in contrast, this book took me in the complete opposite direction.

While River of Dreams held an abundance of humor filled banter between main, and secondary characters–it wouldn’t be a novel of the Nine Kingdoms without such moments after all–this newest addition tugged continuously, and mercilessly at my heartstrings.  It showcases what I find to be the most profoundly emotional scene since the second installment; Mage’s Daughter.  And may I just say, if books were to be nominated for categories like we see on the big screen…the award for first kiss, goes to Runach and Aisling–hands down.  Such a raw, endearing, beautifully romantic moment.  My toes curled a little, not gonna lie.  I have always been a reader that feels drawn to the emotion contained within a story, more so than with any other element.  The Nine Kingdom’s series is teeming with sentiment…one of the many, many reasons this particular series is amongst my most treasured.

With each release, there is something new brought to the table, and River of Dreams was no exception.  It can best be defined as a journey to self awareness.  Our hero Runach–is a character readers have come to know since the first trilogy of this series.  Yet in this installment, we see a transformation, that not even he, himself thought was possible.  I must say…I suspected way back upon our first meeting with Runach, and yet this author cleverly derailed my theories at every turn.  How ironic to find my suspicions were correct all these books later…and yet the delivery of such, was done in a way I NEVER saw coming.   Like our Runach, there is nothing I love more than a good mystery.  Kudos for keeping me guessing Ms. Kurland–when I consider myself a veteran at following clues. *laughing*

Which leads me to our female lead, Aisling–who is fast becoming my most favorite heroine of the series.  Admittedly, Morgan (from the first trilogy) is a tough character to overthrow.  However, Aisling is unique in a way I have come across very rarely in literature.  Our first impression of Aisling can be compared to the location with which we first meet her.  Like Buel, our heroine is bereft of color, light, and emotion…bereft of life.  She is essentially a blank canvas, with which Ms. Kurland gradually adds lines, shading, and contours.  Once her character begins to take shape, we glimpse subtle changes here, and there.  At first, seeing only minute sprinkles of color, until it morphs into bold, glittering splashes of paint.  With each page we turn, Aisling simply….comes to life before our very eyes.

In closing, River of Dreams finally provides a culmination of answers, to many long running questions.  How will our hero protect himself, and the woman he has come to love, now that he lacks the magic that once ran within his veins?   Who was responsible for our heroine’s dire escape from a life of slavery…and why she was enslaved in the first place? What profound knowledge do Runach’s villainous half-brother’s believe they can filch from within his mind? Many more questions come upon the wake of these answers.  What roll could a simple weaver from Bruadair, and a self exiled, elven Prince–possibly play within the nefarious game of darkness that has begun in the Nine Kingdoms?  Perhaps most importantly, who…or what is Aisling herself?  Together, our hero’s will work towards unearthing the secrets of who they once were, and will define who they have presently become.  Both struggle to come to terms with what their places will be in the future.  And readers will bear witness…as the fresh bloom of their love is tested against such a cacophony.

Time after time, book after book, Lynn Kurland crafts a tale vividly alive with imagination.  Like the power with which her character’s wield, she weaves stories with a magic that could only be conjured from dreams.  I look forward to learning where the third and final installment of Aisling, and Runach’s harrowing journey will take us.  Thank you Ms. Kurland for sharing your phenomenal gift of story telling with the world, and I am emphatically grateful to the Reading Cafe, for allowing me to read, and review an ARC from one of my most favorite series in literature…twice now. 🙂

Lanore McIlvrae has been on the run from Adair for hundreds of years, dismayed by his mysterious powers and afraid of his temper. She betrayed Adair’s trust and imprisoned him behind a stone wall to save Jonathan, the love of her life. When Adair was freed 200 years later, she was sure that he would find her and make her existence a living hell. But things turned out far different than she’d imagined.

Four years later, Lanore has tracked Adair to his mystical island home, where he has been living in self-imposed exile, to ask for a favor. She wants Adair to send her to the hereafter so she may beg the Queen of the Underworld to release Jonathan, whom she has been keeping as her consort. Will Lanore honor her promise to Adair to return? Or is her intention to reunite with Jonathan at any cost?

Of all the forces of the universe, the most mysterious, confounding, and humbling is the power of love. The epic story of love and loss, magic and destiny that began with The Taker and sparked a chase around the world in The Reckoning comes to a surprising conclusion with The Descent.

SAVOR (Vicious Feast #1) by Kate Evangelista

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Mature and explicit content. Not recommended for readers below 18-years-old. Yup, you’ve got to be that old to read my story. Consider yourself warned.

I’m Dakota Collins, a tough talking, eye patch wearing, workaholic photography student. Why am I important? Well, maybe because I get to spend an entire month with Vicious, only the sickest indie rock band out there.

You see, I needed a subject for my Spring Showcase introspective in order to graduate. During a chance encounter at a club I’d been sent to cover for the Daily Gossip, our ironically named college paper, the features writer I usually teamed up with introduced me to the band—by accident, I might add. It involved a run in with a scary, bald bodyguard. Anyway, long story short, I signed a contract to take pictures of Vicious.

I should have known their handsome yet way too serious for his own good bassist, Luka Visraya, wouldn’t be able to keep his hands to himself. He’s gorgeous and all, but the way he smiles spelled trouble with a capital L. I’m in for a long month with him around.

Crazy shit happens and then some. So, if you want the skinny on Vicious and the events revolving around my stay at Lunar Manor, read my story.

•••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SAVOR is the first storyline in Kate Evangelista’s new adult, contemporary,  paranormal spin off series focusing on the member of the rock band Vicious. We were first introduced to the storyline characters in Kate’s YA novel TASTE where it was revealed that our beautiful rock stars are anything but human. Advancing the timeline a few years, our heroes and heroines are the world’s most talked about band but there is very little information about their personal and private lives. Enter photographer Dakota Collins who will be contracted to a thirty day all access tour with the band. Finding herself at Lunar Manor, Dakota will stumble into a photographer’s paradise-but something doesn’t quite feel right. She is mind numbingly attracted the bassist Luka Visraya and he in turn appears to want everything Dakota is willing to give.

The storyline premise follows Dakota as she is contracted as the band’s personal photographer for one month while she completes her final university assignment in photography. Her subjects are the elusive and inhumanly beautiful members of the highly successful and enigmatic rock gods of the band Vicious. Although the house and its’ inhabitants are open to Dakota there are still secrets hidden beneath the walls and behind the painful façade of the people who reside in the halls and rooms of Lunar Manor.

Dakota is a strong female but one who has been scarred by a horrific attack that is slowly revealed through nightmares and dream sequences but an attack that is still very much in the moment every time she looks into the mirror. We are not made privy to the details of the attack that has left our heroine scarred both inside and out, but for all intents and purposes, she is a woman determined to make it on her own regardless of her disabilities or physical flaws.

SAVOR is a storyline that barely touches on the ‘paranormal’ aspects of the previous YA story and in this it was a little confusing as I have not had the opportunity to read or review. There is definitely something regally different about the members of Vicious and one that has yet to be revealed in the current timeline. And SAVOR will end with the knowledge that there is much more to tell. We are left wondering if Dakota or Luka will survive the fall-out of Luka’s drunken rambling.

Kate Evangelista pulls the reader into a storyline that has yet to answer many questions but one in particular will throw our heroine into a tailspin when the reality of what has happened hits home. Dakota is a young woman who is ready to accept everything that has been offered but her heart will be shattered when the truth is finally revealed.

SAVOR is a story about a family whose demons are buried deep and little by little our heroine will begin to uncover what lies beneath the public face of the infamous and famous. What she finds is something that is uniquely inherent and curious at the same time but edges on the psychological realm of heart breaking destruction and emotional abuse. Kate will lose both her heart and her soul to a man she knew was dark and dangerous the moment he stepped into her view. The camera never lies but the people hide a multitude of secrets everywhere they go and Luka hides a secret from Dakota that may be the biggest sin of all.

“Dakota Collins!”

I lowered my camera. The use of my full name never came with good consequences. I blinked my vision back at her even if I wanted to spend the rest of the night taking his picture. Sweat rose over my upper lip. I may just have found my subject for the Spring Showcase.

The only problem?

I had to find a way to convince him to be in my project. Something told me this wouldn’t be easy. By the way my heart beat in my ears, drowning out the music and Silvia having a fit in front of me, I wanted it too much. I wanted him too much.

“This the guy you were saying?” I showed Silvia the picture I’d taken. This seemed to pacify her because she sidled closer, mesmerized like a moth to a flame.

“Luka Visraya,” she said with a moan like she’d just tasted the most luscious chocolate before taking a long gulp of her cocktail. The name didn’t register. Silvia must have noticed my blank expression because she continued. “He’s the bassist for Vicious.”

Still no pings of recognition in my head.

She slapped her thigh. “Where have you been? It’s weird that you haven’t heard of them. Their songs are on the radio like every second.”

Of course I hadn’t heard of them. I liked listening to country and I hardly kept up with current events.

“Name one?” Okay, I had a name. Luka. Exotic. A bassist. Part of a band I should know about. So he’s famous. I slowly felt my chances of asking him to be my subject slip from my grasp. If he was someone famous, fat chance he’d say yes to a graduating photography student like me. I just about deflated when Silvia mentioned one of their songs. “Oh, I know that one!” By accident. It played in the radio of the cab I rode in to Sacrifice. I stared at the picture of him then lifted my gaze to where he sat. “He’s gone.”

“What?” Silvia whipped around in time to come face to face with a wall of man. “Whoa!” She pushed at him. “Watch it, buddy!”

“Give me the camera,” he said in a threatening tone.

Big. Beefy. Bald. The three Bs that made up the quintessential bodyguard.

I clutched my DSLR closer to my chest and looked up at him with my good eye. “And why would I do that?” The patch didn’t seem to intimidate him because he just reached out. So much for my Bond villain aspirations. I moved away from his grubby hand. No one touched my camera but me.

Despite her size, Silvia came between me and the mountain. “We’re here to cover Sacrifice for our college paper. You don’t have the right to take away my colleague’s camera.”

Yeah! You give it to him, Silvy.

Not that I couldn’t take care of myself. But if Silvia wanted to play hero, I wouldn’t stand in her way.

“What seems to be the problem here?” a soft, authoritative voice chimed in.

The bodyguard moved aside to reveal the Gothic Lolita. She stood at just about the same height as Silvia, but she possessed an older aura even if she seemed to be our age.

“She’s been taking pictures,” Baldy said.

Lolita’s kohl eyes landed on me then shifted to my camera.

“As I was saying to the big guy,” Silvia explained. “My colleague and I are covering the opening of Sacrifice.”

“For what paper?” Lolita asked without taking her eyes off me. I clutched my camera like an extra appendage. In some ways it was. After losing half my sight, I relied on my camera like an extra eye, seeing the world through its lens. I would rather die than lose it.

“The Daily Gossip,” I said before Silvia could answer just to relieve some of the awkward tension building in me under her gaze. “We study at Wexler U.”

She tilted her head, crossing her arms.

“Okay,” I quickly stammered out. “I get that the name of our paper sounds like a tabloid, but the Daily Gossip is a cool campus paper.” The last part maybe only I believed since Silvia raised her eyebrow at me, but Lolita and the mountain didn’t have to know that.

No one spoke after that. Even in a noisy club, the silence in our group rang in my ears. Not waiting for the situation to get any more awkward, I plowed forward with my own selfish intensions.

“You know Luka.” I said it more as a statement, but it came out like a question.

Lolita nodded.

“I’m Dakota Collins and I’m graduating this spring. I was wondering if Luka would be interested in—”

“What would I be interested in?” a smooth voice joined our group.

The walls of my throat closed, chocking the rest of what I had to say. All eyes turned to Luka. Silvia dropped her empty glass. It bounced off the bodyguard’s shoe and landed in a clatter but didn’t break. Even with my height, I still had to look up at him.

“What are you doing here?” Lolita admonished. “You should be backstage.”

One side of his lips came up. God. Without the scowl, his face lit up. I had to stop the urge to lift my camera and start snapping away. And his eyes were piercing blue. The kind that stretched over my mother’s farm in the summer. Damn.Seeing him up close, I knew I’d give any one of my kidneys for a chance to take his picture in a formal shoot.

Description:
Lia Mantovani has created one of the hottest restaurants on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, but all that could disappear if she loses her lease with Kelly Properties. Having had her dreams ripped away from her before, she’ll do everything in her power to keep her restaurant. Her fate hangs on the whims of the frustratingly handsome Adam Kelly.

Adam has spent years trying to convince world famous chef Amadeus Schlittler to open a restaurant in Chicago, but he wants the prime location held by Lia. Business has always come first… until sparks fly when Adam meets her. When things get hot outside the kitchen, though, they’re both in danger of getting burned.

Review:

At the start of The Sweetest Seduction by Crista McHugh, we meet Lia, who is an up and coming chef, and a good one.  She also has a meddling mother.  When they arrive at the Kelly’s home for Lia to prepare a dinner for the Kelly family, which Mother Kelly bought at a charity auction, Lia has no idea what she’s in for, or how much her life is about to change.

Once they arrive at the picturesque Kelly home on the lake, she can’t help but wonder what her mom is up to.  And once she sees all of the hunky Kelly brothers, she sighs in resignation.  Seems her mom and Mrs. Kelly have an ulterior motive.  Lia heads to the kitchen to start her preparations.  Enter Adam Kelly.  Sparks?  No.  More like spontaneous combustion.  Both try to ignore the other, but what’s the worst that can happen to just indulge…………a little?

But, once Lia realizes that Adam is the one who owns her restaurant space and wants to lease the space to the pompous Amadeus Schittler, will she be able to change his mind? Will Adam be able to satisfy both his and Lia’s needs?  Both, professionally and personally?  Well, my friends, you will just have to read to find out.  And, what a read it is!

Crista has ONCE AGAIN written a story that grabs you from the very first and leaves you wanting more!  The chemistry between Lia and Adam is off the charts and the steam factor will leave you panting.  Crista’s writing style is second to none.  You are completely engrossed in these two characters from the beginning and do not want it to end.  If you are looking for a new author, or just looking for a quick, sexy read, this book will not disappoint.  I have touted Crista McHugh as one of my must-read authors since the first time I read one of her stories.  She writes in several different genres and they are all spectacular.  Well done, Crista McHugh!!  Very, very well done!!

DARK WOLF (Dark Carpathian #25) by Christine Feehan

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 7, 2014

Skyler Daratrazanoff always recognized the miracle that was Dimitri Tirunul, a man beyond any dream that had ever engaged her nights. But she was human. Vulnerable. He was Carpathian. Nearly immortal. She was nineteen. He was an ancient. Yet she held half his soul, the light to his darkness. Without her, he would not survive. Caught between the two warring species, Dimitri has spent centuries hunting the undead to keep his people free, and humans safe. He had survived honorably when others had chosen to give up their souls. But now, marked for extermination by the Lycans, Dimitri found himself alone, and fearing for his life. But salvation was coming…

No Lycan would ever suspect someone like Skyler to dare mount a secret rescue operation. A teenage girl. A human of untested abilities. But she had something no one else had. She was predestined for Dimitri—as he was for her. And there was nothing stronger for Skyler than her desire to see her life-dream come true. Whatever the risk.

•••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW by Sandy

Dark Wolf (Dark Carpathian #25) by Christine Feehan is the second part of a three part trilogy storyline focusing on the Carpathians, the Lycans and a new hybrid breed of vampire. This is Skyler and Dimitri’s storyline.

Some background about the series: All Carpathian males, must find their lifemates before they turn vampire or greet the dawn. Without a lifemate, the males no longer see in color, feel pain or experience emotions. A lifemate is the light to their dark. She is the keeper of his heart and the keeper of his soul.

DARK WOLF is one of the most anticipated storylines in Christine Feehan’s Dark Carpathian paranormal romance series in a number of years. Dark Wolf focuses on Skylar Daratrazanoff-a nineteen year old woman who years earlier discovered that an ancient warrior known as Dimitri Tirunul was her lifemate. All Carpathian males must find their lifemate before the darkness takes over their mind and their soul; without a lifemate a Carpathian male will eventually turn vampire or walk into the sun to end his life. But Skylar was too young to be claimed and Dimitri has waited patiently until now. With his life literally in her hands, Skylar offers the one thing that Dimitri desires most-her trust and her soul.

The storyline continues on the heals of Dark Lycan and one that reveals much more about the history of the Lycan and a vampire/lycan hybrid known as the Sange rau. We will follow as Dimitri is used as bait to pull the Carpathians into a war between the species but when a fiercely independent and strong young woman sets about to rescue the man that she loves, the lycans further their plans with an attempt against the Prince and the Carpathian people.

Christine Feehan has walked a delicate line with Skylar and Dimitri’s relationship. It has been building for a number of years-ever since Dimitri revealed that a sixteen year old Skylar was his lifemate during the holiday gathering of Dark Celebration. Too young to be claimed and too emotionally battered to understand, fans have been divided as to how Ms. Feehan should approach the claiming of a woman said to be too emotionally and physically fragile. As a survivor of sexual abuse, Skylar’s story would have to be handled with care and Christine Feehan has done an amazing job putting the struggles of both characters into perspective. After all, it is a paranormal storyline built around fantasy and romance and who better to heal the mind and soul but a man who knows that there is only one woman for him-in the world.

Christine pulls together many of the previous storyline characters including the entire De La Cruz family, Josef and Byron, as well as the Daratranoff brothers, Razvan and Ivory, and the Dragonseeker twins. It felt like old times with the return to the Carpathian Mountains. And as we all know Dimitri is one with the wolf and we will be introduced to a new wolf pack that both Skylar and Dimitri will hold close to their hearts.

Review by Barb

Dark Wolf by Christine Feehan is the 25th book in her Dark series.  However, Dark Wolf is the 2nd book in her special trilogy that began with Dark Lycan.  In this book, we finally finally get what many people have been anxiously awaiting for a long time….. Skyler and Dimitri’s story.  When Christine noted that she will be bringing the popular couple together as true lifemates, I worried how this would be handled.  We knew Skyler was a teenager still, though Christine has allowed a few years to pass, and Skyler is now 19.  As I noted in my Dark Lycan review, I was thrilled that Christine has gone back to the stories that made this series so special. Well, she continues this fabulous return, as Dark Wolf is a fantastic and fabulous read.  Skyler and Dimitri’s finalizing their lifemate bond was handled so well.

When we last left off in Dark Lycan, Dimitri was captured by the Lycan’s to be killed as a dangerous breed, Sange rau.   While Mikhail is back home in the Carpathian mountains meeting with the Lycan council trying to work out an agreement to save Dimitri, and any other mixed breed Carpathian; other Carpathians have unsuccessfully been able to locate Dimitri.

Being able to sense Dimitri, and his weaken state, our wonderfully grown up Skyler takes matters in her own hands with the help of her two best friends, Josef and Paul.  She is determined to save him, and all three of them go on a secret mission, not telling anyone.  Over the years, we have watched all three grow up, and watching them work together to try to save Dimitri was wonderful.

During their intense rescue mission, the tension is somewhat released for us often by the fun of the three best friends, as they head to try to save Dimitri.  I loved the camdarie between Skyler, Josef (whom I am beginning to love more and more), and Paul.  The three of them are totally wonderful together, real true friends, who will do anything for each other.

Dark Wolf is such an exciting story from start to finish, with so many breathtaking moments throughout.  Just when you thought you could relax, there were so many dangerous and deadly scenes that held your breath to see what will happen next. Christine did a fabulous job of maturing Skyler and I loved watching her learn and use her budding powers.  Skyler is a Dragonseeker, a Mage, a daughter of Mother Earth; but she is now truly a…….Daratrazonoff.

I am not going to spoil this to tell you what happens, but there is so much more to this story then just rescuing Dimitri, and the final bonding of this wonderful couple we have waited patiently for.  I will say that Dimitri is the perfect lifemate for Skyler, and this book proves it.

Another one of the major things I loved about this book is knowing that many of the families of Skyler, Josef and Paul would be part of the story, and it was great to see them all again…..Gabriel, Francesca, Lucian, Razvan, Ivory, Byron, Vlad, the Delacruz Brothers, Fen, Tatiana, Bronnie; not to mention Mikhail, Gregori, and many others. If you are a big Dark series fan, you will be in your glory.

There are many questions that get resolved; many answers will have to wait for the last book in this arc, Dark Blood.  One of my favorite scenes is a gift given by Razvan & Ivory to Skyler & Dimitri that I am so anxious to see more of in the next book.  Dark Wolf was in my opinion the best book since Dark Slayer or Dark Demon, filled with action, excitement, danger, romance, sex, and in between all of that, pure fun moments.  Christine Feehan has finally fully returned to what we love the most about the Dark series.

About The Author Black and White

Kim Karr

I live in Florida with my husband and four kids. I’ve always had a love for reading books and writing. Being an English major in college, I wanted to teach at the college level but that was not to be. I went on to receive an MBA and became a project manager until quitting to raise my family. I currently work part-time with my husband and full-time embracing one of my biggest passions—writing.

I wear a lot of hats! Writer, book-lover, wife, soccer-mom, taxi driver, and the all around go-to person of the family. However, I always find time to read. One of my favorite family outings use to be taking my kids to the bookstore or the library. Today, my oldest child is in college and my twins are juniors so they no longer go with me on these outings. And although I don’t need to go to the actual store anymore because I have the greatest device ever invented—a Kindle, I still do. There’s nothing like a paperback. So now my four year old and I make dates out of going to the bookstore–it’s time I love and cherish.

I like to believe in soulmates, kindred spirits, true friends, and Happily-Ever-Afters. I love to drink champagne, listen to music, and hopes to always stay young at heart.

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

I have decided that I DO NOT want this series to ever end! Hear that Grace Burrowes??? NO END! LOL

I was really looking forward to Douglas’s book as he is one tough cookie to figure out. I didn’t have a connect with him in Andrew’s book, but for some reason he still fascinated me and I was certain by the end of Douglas’s book, Grace Burrowes will have me melting and falling in love! YUP she not only succeeded in that, but made it happen in the first chapter when we experience our socially and a little emotionally inept yet handsome viscount fetch a young girl out of a tree.

So as I mentioned, we meet Douglas in Andrew’s book. He is the ex brother in law to Andrew’s wife, and has a great deal of responsibility placed on his shoulders after some family scandal as come to surface. He is a good man, who wants to succeed and rebuild his families fortunes through good honest work. When he is offered an opportunity to purchase an estate that will be profitable, he seeks out the professional opinion of Andrew’s cousin Gwen (she efficiently works as a steward on her own land and is seriously knowledgeable and successful) and asks her to accompany him to his future estate so she can teach him the tricks of the trade.

Gwen, is quite hesitant to accompany any man (she is seriously heart broken and refuses to ever get involved with another man again), but if it were not for Douglas, her 5 year old daughter Rose may have fallen to her death. Reluctantly she agrees to go with Douglas. Douglas it completely captivated by Gwen and he is curious as to why she has built such high walls around herself. Slowly, these two embark on a journey to self discovery and discovery of each other. Through gentle touch, kind words, arguments, insistence, secrets, danger and down right stubbornness you can believe that these two were made for each other. When you mix in a sweet 5 year old child who is completely smitten with Douglas (and he with her), you will understand why my heart melted.

Of course there is so much more to this story, but you will have to read for yourself to get the nitty gritty. I will say (I am totally biased as Grace Burrowes is one of my absolute fave historical romance authors ..lol) that Grace has a knack for pairing the most perfect personalities together. She also writes her hero’s so damaged that it really does take the perfect heroine to embrace their “crazy”. She doesn’t write dim witted heroines either but women who I can look up to and admire!

Another score in The Lonely Lords series. This series will be a reread (which I rarely do) and a fave “go to” when I need a historical romance fix. I am so looking forward to David’s story.

If you are into historical romance, love multi-layered characters, reading a big brooding man fawn over a 5 year old and a couple bicker and love all in the same sentence then check this book out!

HAPPY READING! 🙂

After The Storm (KGI #8) by Maya Banks-a review

After The Storm (KGI #8) by Maya Banks-a review

After the Storm

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 7, 2014

Over the years, Donovan Kelly has fought relentlessly for justice, women and children always holding a special place in his heart. Working side by side with his brothers, Donovan has witnessed firsthand the toll it’s taken—physically, mentally, and emotionally—on his loved ones, and the innocent lives caught in the crossfire. What he never expects is for his next mission to happen right on his home turf—or for it to take a very personal turn.

Picturesque Kentucky Lake is the perfect place for a soul in search of safe harbor. A beautiful stranger has arrived—desperate, breathless, and on the run from a dark past closing in on her and the younger siblings she has vowed to protect. Donovan must now draw on every resource at his disposal—if he wants to save a woman and the children who may prove to be his destiny.

Review:

When Rusty Kelly hires a teen aged boy, Travis, off the books to help at the Kelly’s Hardware Store, she knows that he’s hiding something, and scared. A feeling she knows all too well, or at least, knew. However, when Donovan sees her at the store on a Sunday, he goes to see why she’s there. And, when he sees a teenager leaving, his curiosity gets the best of him. Unfortunately, he questions Rusty’s intentions without listening to her first. But, once she sets him straight, he understands why she has taken the boy on. Still, he wants to know more about the boy and they devise a plan to follow him to see where he’s staying and with whom. What they find makes their hearts break, especially Donovan’s. The boy and his two sisters have rented a trailer on the outside of town that’s not fit for an animal, let alone for them to live in. Once Donovan and Rusty “drop by” to see what’s going on, and they meet Travis’ sisters, Eve and Cammie, Donovan knows that they are running from someone or something, and he’s just the man to help them out. Because when Donovan Kelly makes the scene, no harm will come to the beautiful Eve and her siblings.

Eve is perplexed as to why Donovan wants to help them. And suspicious. She knows that they can’t stay in one place too long, or the one they’re running from will find them. He has money, connections and a long reach. But, when Donovan sees that Cammie is sick and needs more than over the counter meds, he encourages Eve to let him bring Maren (Steele’s Maren!) by who is a doctor who just happens to make house calls. Eve reluctantly agrees, but then has second thoughts. She decides they’ve been in one place for too long and decide to leave during the night. The one hitch in their plan? The leave just as a tornado hits, literally!! Little did she know that once a Kelly brother wants someone, he will move heaven and hell, and all kinds of things toppled and destroyed by a tornado to get it. And, he wants her.

Once Donovan finds Eve, Cammie and Travis amidst the destruction, he takes them to his home in the Kelly compound when they can heal from their injuries. And, when they find out just how sick Cammie is, Eve knows she has no choice but to trust Donovan. She’ll stay for a few days, just long enough for Cammie to get healthy and for her and Travis’ injuries to heal. Then she’s outta there……………..Riiiiight…

Oh, how I have longed for Donovan’s story. I knew that his wouldn’t be like the others. They wouldn’t be in other countries traipsing through the jungles to find someone. I knew down to my toes his story would unfold right there in Tennessee and that his story would be great. Good Lord!! I love it when I’m right!!!! LOL!!! Not only do we get to see a sweet love story turn into a steamy one, we get to see ALL of the Kellys. Babies, wives, parents………… All of them!! And, I loved it! If you’re a fan of this series, then I don’t even have to tell you how the entire Kelly family rallied around Eve and her siblings. Because once the one that they’re running from shows up, all hell breaks loose. Of course, there is a bump or two. Eve overhears part of a conversation between Donovan and some other KGI members and puts into motion a series of events that will leave you heartbroken. But, she does it all to save her siblings. We also get to know a bit about the new KGI team, and I can’t wait to learn more about them. (And, if you’re a fan of Rusty and Sean and wondering what’s up, this one is for you!!) I’ll say it again….I honestly don’t know how she turns out as many awesome stories in one year as she does, but I for one am damned glad she does!! Well done Maya Banks, well done!!
