REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

WOWEEEEE! I feel like I need to smoke a cigarette after reading that book. I can honestly say I have now been utterly seduced by a novel. HOLY SMOKING HOTNESS!

High by Zara Cox is a contemporary erotic romance which follows the wounded billionaire and sweet girl formula that many authors are writing these days .. EXCEPT, the way this book was written, the build up, the tension, the seduction, the words, and finally the physical explosion made this read stand out among some of the others I have read and enjoyed. Zara Cox’s writing style is the style I enjoy the most. While this book moves fast, Zara Cox got my toes curling just enough before giving the inevitable yummy sex scenes. Then, she goes on to deliver page after page.

So let me tell you a bit about this read. Bethany Green, our leading lady has come home only to find a much coveted and rare to be found invitation to “The Indigo Lounge”. This club is a once in a lifetime trip via plane from one sexy destination after another. In the midst of all this travel, the plane is decked out to deliver one fine fantasy after another. After a horrible end to a relationship that left Bethany feeling destroyed, and a pushy BFF (really .. Keely kind of rocks ..lol), Bethany decides to take to plunge and accept the free wild card position on the next trip.

Zachary Savage (owner of “Indigo Lounge”, smexy, hunky and damaged billionaire) just so happens to be in the terminal for a jet refuel on another plane, when Bethany checks in for her trip. Absolute animal magnetism soon pulls these two together. Zach soon changes all his plans and comes on strong, claiming Bethany. Bethany is completely sucker punched by Zach, and before she knows it, she is accepting his invitation to ditch her Indigo trip and travel with him on business.

Of course, no hot billionaire story is complete without the turmoil, moodiness, unabashed sexual freedom, and “what is going on here because suddenly I cannot live without the other”! Secrets are held and some revealed slowly, and these two begin to truly fall in love with each other leading to another whole mess of questions and problems. Can these two survive the added turmoil and/or will they fight to be together? Have a read to find out! 😉

HAPPY READING! 🙂

Schasm
Schasm series – Book 1
by Shari Ryan
Release Date: January 25, 2014SchasmLinks to order Schasm: Amazon / Barnes & Noble/ The Book Depository

Book Description:  Chloe Valcourt drifts between two worlds: the dark reality of her domineering mother and feeble father and the vivid fantasy of her imagination. With her condition comes the harsh observation of doctors who intend to cure her of it. But a chance encounter with a handsome and vaguely familiar young man in her dream world hints at the possibility of hidden truths—and a life she can’t remember. As her drifts become a greater escape from the cruelty of the real world, Chloe finds herself lost between what is real and what is imagined, questioning her very existence. Can she remain in the lush new imagined landscape to find happiness in a realm of her own invention? Is she doomed to return to the harsh reality of the outside world forever? Or will she become trapped somewhere between the two…unable to return to either?

Review:
Schasm is the first book in The Schasm Series by Shari J Ryan. Nineteen year old Chloe Valcourt has a condition that has plagued her since childhood.  Her ability to “drift” into other realities is labeled mild schizophrenia by her doctors and mother.  Secluded and sheltered from the outside world she is basically a prisoner in her own home, in her own room.  The only time she can escape her real life is going for tedious weekly treatments at the mental ward and her drifting.

Her drifts are slowly becoming the life she wants as her true reality. Even more so now that she has met Alex Levette, a young man who saved her from drowning during one of her accidental drifts. Yet, there is a strange familiarity to Alex. Has Chloe met him before?  With his help Chloe becomes more comfortable and agile at drifting.  All the while her mother sees her becoming more defiant and closed off to her, so she becomes more overbearing and abusive. Chloe’s reality and drifting begin to cross, intersect and overlap.  She no longer can comprehend  what is real and what is reality and does she even want to know!

This book takes you on the emotional journey through mental illness.  Striking, schizophrenic and breath taking are the words to describe the world created by Author Shari Ryan.  At times I could feel the anxiety, turmoil and confusion creeping off of the pages and capturing me full on. I began to question everything and doubt what may be real or unreal for Chloe.  Turning each page I wanted her to find her happy ending but with any mental illness happy endings tend to be elusive.

Book one leaves you gasping for air wondering “What just happened?” Hoping to find the answers and clarity in book two as to what has caused the Schasm so to speak!   Anxiously awaiting!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 21, 2014

Making daggers out of raindrops is only the tip of the iceberg for Brooke Bonham. As one of four women who can control the elements, her ability to manipulate water packs a deluge of potential. Eager to learn more, she’s frustrated at the precautions she must take to avoid the wrong kind of attention on Earth.

Kai’s duties as a Lash demon have kept him busy on Earth for nearly two hundred years. Fighting? He was born to do it. Females? They’re drawn to him. And Earth? The perfect place for him to avoid supernatural bounty hunters.

Though the two of them mix like oil and water, Kai senses that beneath Brooke’s frosty exterior hides a vortex of simmering passion. He’s determined to thaw his ice princess.

Forced to work together in the immortal realm, they track a rogue Lash demon at the helm of a widespread kidnapping operation. All too soon, Kai’s dark past catches up to them. Time runs out as a second enemy, bent on revenge, vows to stop at nothing short of Brooke’s enslavement and Kai’s death. As they and their foes stalk each other in a demonic game of cat-and-mouse, will her evolving skills and their fledgling bond be enough to save them?

•••••••••••••••••••••••••

If I had to describe this book with one word, the word would be busy. This book had a lot going on with many fun and interesting elements. I mean what’s not to love about this book? You get a vast variety of creatures with their own unique abilities, exploration of the many places in the realm of Torth, amazing fights scenes, adventure that leaves you on the edge of your seat and scorching hot love scenes. This book was the total package grabbing my attention from the prologue where our hero, Kai, fights for his life against a Neshi in a ring as a gladiator slave and then he proceeds to escape days later. I remember being on the edge of my seat during the action while rooting for Kai.

What I enjoyed the most is the main couple; Kai and Brooke. Sorry to sound cliché but Kai and Brooke are a match made in heaven. Physically and emotionally, there was some real chemistry between them. It was a real treat watching the romance grow and build throughout the story; though it was amusing that they didn’t really like each other in the beginning. While I am all for love at first sight, I am very partial to love that builds and grows. While in action, the two are an awesome pair with Kai’s Lash Demon abilities and Brooke’s Solsti abilities with water. There’s nothing wrong when a man is protective of his girl, but I really liked Kai’s confidence in Brooke’s abilities and as he didn’t hinder her but encouraged her. You’ll love everything about Kai and Brooke.

The witch Rosa and her abilities are super fun. The pace of the book was spot on and perfect, the pace didn’t drag and didn’t feel too fast. I also appreciate the overkill on the sensory imagery the story provided. The only complaint about the book was I felt like this book was not a suitable stand alone book. There were many references to the previous book and I felt a little lost since I didn’t read the first book. Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely and I desire back tracking to read book #1.

The MacGregor’s Lady by Grace Burrowes-a review

The MacGregor’s Lady by Grace Burrowes-a review

the MacGregor's Lady

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 3, 2014

Asher MacGregor has returned from years wandering the Canadian wilderness to assume an earldom he’s avoided, and to seek a bride he does not want. He’s saddled with an additional family obligation in the form of Boston heiress Hannah Cooper, whom he is to escort about the London ballrooms so she might find an English husband.

Hannah is no more interested in settling in Britain than Asher is in returning to the New World, and yet their sympathy for one another soon turns to passion. With Hannah anxious to return to the family she’s trying to protect in Boston, and Asher bound to his earldom in the Highlands, they must trust in love to span an ocean of differences and difficulties.

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Another perfect review for one of my fave historical romance author Grace Burrowes. I know, I know, it’s hard to believe I gave her another 5 out of 5 … insert eye roll! LOL

The MacGregor’s Lady is the final book in her MacGregor Trilogy and the one I was really interested in reading the most. I think it’s because Asher MacGregor was set up to be some kind of mystery that I felt the need to solve. I am happy to report that his story didn’t let me down at all!

Asher MacGregor has been avoiding his inherited earldom like the plague and has been living life in the Canadian wilderness (I knew he was my fave for a good reason .. lol). He has been tasked to accompany Hannah Cooper (an American heiress) to England for the current season so she can land herself a husband. Both Asher and Hannah would prefer to stick needles in their eyes than to participate in the spouse seeking customs and through this reluctance, our leading man and lady bond!

One would think that there is a simple solution here. Marry each other and avoid all the fuss of the ton. Well the idea is laid on the table and then refused. Hannah needs to return to her family and Asher needs to inherit a title and a big fat ocean separates their own personal conquests. However, this fast and furious friendship quickly turns to something so much more, and imagining the distance from each other becomes what they begin to fear most (more so than spouse seeking)! Through this story, personal history of heartache and despair (Grace Burrowes is the master at this), these two were so easy to fall in love with!

So the pace of this book is slower than some of her other novels I have read. Despite the lack of action, my heart strings were pulled, and the past of these two characters was so intriguing to read, I didn’t find myself missing the action at all! Again, Grace Burrowes makes another “meant to be together” couple. I am so pleased at the interaction of Asher with his family and admit I teared up a few times.

A satisfying conclusion to an amazing trilogy.

HAPPY READING! 🙂

Sex In The Title

Release Date: October 30, 2013
Genre: adult, contemporary, fiction

Sex In the Title

SEX IN THE TITLE by Zack Love

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 2013

New York City, May 2000. The Internet bubble has burst, and Evan’s boss fires him with an email. The next day, his girlfriend dumps him, also via email. Afraid to check any more emails, Evan desperately seeks a rebound romance but the catastrophes that ensue go from bad to hilariously worse. Fortunately, Evan meets someone whose legendary disasters with females eclipse even his own.

To reverse their fortunes, they recruit their friends into a group of five guys who take on Manhattan in pursuit of dates, sex, and adventure. With musings about life, relationships, and human psychology, this quintessential New York story about the search for happiness follows five men on their comical paths to trouble, self-discovery, and love.

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SEX IN THE TITLE is a contemporary storyline about five twenty-something men searching for sex, love and meaning in their lives. Zack Love combines the adventures of Sex in the City with the antics and exploits from Entourage resulting in a humorous and contemplative look into the minds of men on the prowl. Five men, each determined to find that special someone and finding friendship, along the way.

Zack Love takes the reader on a ride through Manhattan’s night life and city streets; hookers and bars; crazy cat ladies and wanna be porn stars. We watch as one man finds his other half, while another finds himself and still, another discovers that love is truly blind.

SEX IN THE TITLE covers ten years in the life-1993 to 2003-and some of the premise references the popular songs and fads of the day. From poignant and philosophical musings to trash speaking thugs and hookers, Zack Love covers the spectrum of colorful dialogue interspersed with meaningful meanderings from five guys who think they know what they want. And in the end, sometimes what you want isn’t what you need.

Presented as a comedic look at dating, sex and romance, there were moments that felt forced; where the attempts at being funny were painfully reminiscent of teenage boys and bathroom humor; while at other times, I would shake my head and smile at the situations and plot. But in the end, it is a story of friendship between five unlikely friends from different backgrounds and careers who all wanted something or someone to love.

excerpt

“Listen to what you’re saying to me! Can you believe what you just – ”

Heeb blanked out on Melody for a moment as he remembered that he needed to deposit his mail in the mailbox a few feet away because it was the last one before he entered the Eighty-sixth Street subway station. He had been looking forward to this moment, after uncomfortably holding his mail in a stack that was sandwiched between his fingers and his cell phone, which was held down on the stack by his right thumb and pressed up to the side of his head for the conversation.

He refocused on Melody’s rant: “…not fair…I mean, listen to how you communicate with me! I feel like that’s become our problem. That’s really what this is about now: we just don’t communicate like we used – ” And that was the last thing he heard Melody say. Heeb’s painfully cramped and over-encumbered fingers were so eager to release the stack of mail from his right hand into the mailbox that they released his cell phone as well.

Heeb stood there for a moment, in dazed disbelief, looking helplessly at the sides of the mailbox. Melody’s continuing diatribe could now be heard only as a series of strangely muffled, barely audible noises, emanating from within the metal mailbox, like a transistor radio that falls into a manhole and just gives off a faint, chattering buzz.

In absurd desperation, Heeb tried cupping his hands to the mailbox for a moment, and shouting into it, hoping that she might hear what happened and that he really didn’t mean to drop the phone in the mailbox just as she was complaining about how they don’t communicate as well as they used to.

“Melody! Melody! I can’t hear you! I dropped my phone in the mailbox! Can you hear me?! I’m sorry! It slipped!”

As several commuters walked by, looking oddly at this heavyset balding man in a suit and tie crouched down low and apparently talking rather urgently to a mailbox, Heeb felt that he may have reached the nadir of his follies in the New York dating scene. But it would actually get much worse.

Zack Love graduated from Harvard College, where he tried to create a bachelor’s degree in Women. With the bachelor portion of that degree in hand, he settled in New York City but – to afford renting his bed-sized studio – found himself flirting mostly with a computer screen and stacks of documents. Determined not to die a corporate drone, Zack decided to sacrifice sleep for screenwriting, an active social life, and Internet startups offering temporary billion-dollar fantasies.

To feed his steady diet of NYC nightlife, he regularly crashed VIP parties in the early 2000s and twice bumped into his burgeoning crush, a Hollywood starlet. But – much to Zack’s surprise – neither of those awkward conversations led to marriage with the A-list actress. Zack eventually consoled himself by imagining fiascoes far worse than those involving his celebrity crush. In the process, he dreamed up a motley gang of five men inspired by some of his college friends and quirky work colleagues. And thus was born Sex in the Title. But the novel is not autobiographical: Zack never had his third leg attacked by any mammal (nor by any plant, for that matter). In fact, keeping his member safe has been one of Zack’s lifelong goals – and one of the few that he’s managed to accomplish.
