Because of screwing up with Callie, during the summer, I’m drowning my sorrows with drink and women…or that’s what I’m trying to do, but it isn’t working. Every time I close my eyes all I see is Callie, her long flowing blonde locks, her slim curvy body with legs that go on for miles and breasts that make my mouth water. She’s become my weakness and I have no idea how to make amends for my past sin…

It’s been weeks since Reece left me without a backwards glance, and I’m an idiot because I’m finding it difficult to move on and forget him. It doesn’t help that my best friend, Thalia, is engaged to his best friend, Phoenix. But tonight I intend to change all that and maybe do a little flirting with another guy and see where it leads…and who knows, it might even make the pain in my ass realize what he’s missing…

Can be read as a standalone and has an HEA ending – No Cliffhanger

Review beige

SPICY is the second instalment in Lexi Buchanan’s contemporary, new adult, erotic series focusing on the rock group Deception and the women in their lives –and there are plenty of women in and out of their lives. SPICY is Reece and Callie’s storyline-Reece is the drummer for Deception and Callie is besties with Thalia-Reece’s band mate’s fiancé.

The story follows Callie as she is pulled into the world of sex, hard drinking and, rock and roll. Reece has made it clear to the other members of the band that Callie is his, but his actions betray the emotional vortex that is his life. Walking away from Callie in the middle of the night has left our heroine with a broken heart, thoughts of betrayal and enough anger to fuel a small rocket to the moon. When well meaning friends convince Callie that Reece still carries a torch, she will discover that Reece has been anything but faithful and true. What ensues is a game of cat and mouse where Reece continues to act the man-whore while Callie’s heart breaks into smaller shards.

Lexi Buchanan pulls the reader into a story of one man’s obsession with the woman who has stolen his heart but a man who is incapable of letting go of the past. Reece has a secret-one that has already affected his life, his family and now Callie-but a secret that is not his to tell. When the secret is finally revealed it may be too late for Reece and the woman that he loves.

SPICY is an erotic storyline with lots of sex. No one is immune to the bad boys of rock and there are plenty of women waiting their turn with one of the band. Lexi Buchanan’s storylines are gritty, graphic and sexually explicit. My only hope is that everyone remains true to their heart.

ABOUT THE BOOK: A brand new Southern women’s fiction from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sharon Sala who has 1.5 million books sold.

Wally Lamb meets Steel Magnolias in this story of LilyAnn Bronte, the Peachy-Keen Queen, which in Blessings, Georgia, was the epitome of success. After losing her fiance in the war in Iraq, her zest for life went into decline while added weight crept on. When a new guy arrives in town, LilyAnn embarks on a quest to remake herself from start to finish only to discover that love was always just right next-door.

••••••••••••••••••••

Curl Up and Dye is a wonderful story of small town lives. Curl Up and Dye is the local beauty salon and run by some wonderful ladies, who know everyone and almost everything. Like in most small towns, the beauty salon is the center piece of life.

This is the story of LilyAnn Bronte, who had a lovely young life that went bad when her first love Randy Joe went to Afghanistan and was killed. She got stuck in that place, just short of growing up.

She dropped out of college that year and started working at the local pharmacy. Three years later her father died and her mother later remarried a man 12 years younger and now lives happily in Miami, Florida. LilyAnn never went back to school and just worked at Phillips Pharmacy and began packing on the pounds and living in her little rut. Eleven years later, hearing a hot rod truck rev up its pipes, she sort of had a revelation of change.

She went to the Curl Up and Dye for her weekly appointment. While there, the driver of the hot rod truck came in to ask for a haircut. He was moderately handsome and well-built and his name was T.J. Lachlan. T.J. was new in town and renovating his great uncle’s house that he’d inherited. LilyAnn knew the new stranger would never look at her as she was, but would have liked her as she was when she was with Randy Joe. This was the impetus for her change!

Mike Dalton is LilyAnn’s next door neighbor, as well as the owner of the local fitness gym, and has been in love with her since the tenth grade. He has never had the courage to make his feelings know, afraid of rejection.

This is the setting, the story is one of self-realization and finding out what life truly has to offer before it’s too late. It’s well written, you get to know many of the people in the town. Ms. Salsa does a great job of creating the town from the ground up. You feel like you have lived there, or could live there. She entwines the story around LilyAnn and Mike and their finding each other, interspersing it with tales of other townfolk.

It’s a bumpy road, some funny, some horrible, and some just embarrassing! It’s great entertainment. T.J. turns out to be not what everyone thought (no spoilers now) and the story is wonderful and fulfilling.

Grab a glass of your favorite beverage, cuddle up and have a good time with this wonderful home-town type story. It’s well worth the time to read! The characters are endearing and loveable, you get some bad guys to take you temper out on, and lots of great fun! Enjoy everyone, I did!

Q&A

1. With the zany characters in your book, I just have to ask are they
based on people you know, a combination of people or just totally made up?

Well, I will admit to have quite a few characters in my family, and I have a wicked sense of humor and a wild imagination, so that’s how the people in my books come to be.

2. What one thing do you dislike most about writing?

That’s an easy answer and one I’d venture to say nearly all writers share. Its waiting to be paid. Publishers might pay quarterly, or twice a year, or whatever their market plan is, and no matter how hard we write and how many bills pill up, we don’t get paid when we finish a job. We wait months and months without knowing the amount we will even receive, because ALL of our income is based on royalty from the sales, and no one knows whether a book will sell well, or if it’s going to get pirated so many times your actual sales plummet, etc. It’s a hard business to be in and survive.

3. Most writers also enjoy reading when they have a chance. What was the last book you read?

It was a book by Robert Crais called Voodoo River.

4. Valentine’s Day is just a few days away. What meal would you consider to be perfect for the occasion?

I always loved having dinner with my sweetheart. I think that’s still the best thing a woman enjoys… not having to cook, being waited on, and being with the person you love.

5. What can readers look forward to next from you?

My next book for Sourcebooks will be book 2 from the world of Blessings, Georgia and the girls at The Curl Up & Dye. It’s called Family Specials.

About the book: Release Date February 4, 2014

Hockey star Ben Kelly has retreated to his mountain cabin in the ski town of Cascade, BC, to recuperate from a season-ending knee injury and contemplate his future in the NHL. He never expects to run into the one woman who got away. Nine years may have passed, but nothing has dulled the explosive chemistry between them. Now he wants more than just one night.

Hailey Eriksson had Olympic-sized dreams until an accidental pregnancy from a one-night stand halted her ambitions. Her life was shattered when her son died. Nothing will keep her from fulfilling her promise to him to make the Olympic team, especially not the charming Ben Kelly. Unfortunately, he’s out of sweep her off her feet this time, and she finds him harder and harder to resist with each passionate kiss. But when he learns about the child he never knew, will their rekindled romance be on thin ice?

Review:

When Ben Kelly pops into a local bar to grab a beer and something to eat, he thinks that the waitress looks familiar and when she basically sneers at him, he doesn’t have a clue as to why. Until he makes a trip back to the bar and realizes that the one woman who got away and he has fantasized about is the one who won’t give him the time of day. But, why?

Of course, he convinces her to give him a chance and they embark on a relationship of sorts….. Sort of him showing up wherever she is and badgering her into giving into his wanting to see where things will go between them. And, once she finally gives in, things steam up pretty quickly. Hailey finds herself so taken with Ben, that she’s afraid to broach the subject of their son. How will he handle the fact that the son he never knew is forever lost to him? And, once he finds out, will they both be able to get past their feelings of betrayal, or, will their hearts be so broken that they breakaway?

If you’ve read my reviews before of Crista’s books, you know that I would read a phonebook that was written by her. THANK YOU SWEET BABY JESUS that she doesn’t settle for that and writes these amazing romance stories for all of us to enjoy. I have no idea how in the world Crista does all that she does AND continues to write such wonderful stories. But, I’ll tell you (and her) that I am sooooo glad that she does!! I absolutely adored Ben and Hailey. For an author to be able to write of such a profound loss and weave the story the way she did absolutely did me in. I have only said this about two other authors, but I absolutely worship at the altar that is Crista McHugh. Very well done, Crista, very very well done. I can’t wait for the next Kelly Brother, and I’ll say it again peeps…… If you’re looking for sweet, hot, touching, funny, sexy romance, she is the author for you!!!!

Return of the Legend

About the Book: The Elven world is evolving and Daroth is set to guide in a new era, but not as King of the Empire. With the Grey Elven King Ingwër, the Crown Prince Elrohir of the High Elven Kingdom, and King Garoldth at his side they are preparing to recall the Counsel of the Elves. It is a new beginning for their world and they have every intention of reclaiming the glory the Elven Empire had once enjoyed. Can they do it without the knowledge and talents their people once took for granted? Will the fates smile on the Empire and grant them their fondest wishes?

As Kingdoms begin to come together and they begin to rebuild the world as it was known before the wars the Empire reforms. New Life Mates are brought to light and the Elves begin to question how much has been lost through the millenniums and since the time of the ancients. There is no one who can answer the questions forming in their minds. The library of the ancients, which could give them all the information they need, has been lost and with it the knowledge it holds. Or is it?

A random discovery made in a pile of scrolls. Choices with unforeseen ramifications acted on in haste. It all comes to a head as the Elven world evolves, and a message from the past is carried from Garoldth’s Kingdom into the Elven Empire. It brings the words of an ancient warrior to the attention of the Kings who would rule the Empire. It is a missive from one Warrior King to another. There is no questioning whom the message is from. Only one held the name written within the scroll, and he was King of the Empire when the ancients were at the pinnacle of their power. A King meant to rule over Kings. In the history of the Elven people his name was and still is legend.

LOTHRARIEL, WARRIOR KING OF THE ELVEN EMPIRE

******************

M.A. Abraham has done it again with Return of the Legend, a fabulous story that joins all the leaders from each kingdom together to help bring the Elven Empire back to their original glory.  But it will take a legend from the past to put the pieces together.  It is an excellent and fun story, with almost everyone from previous books participating.  Though at times, I had no idea whom many of the sons belonged to which king. Lol  I do enjoy being able to spend each book with our heroes from the previous books, like Eden, Gabriel, Marious, Serinity, Daroth, Haylo, Tamarak, just to name a few.

All the Kings are still in Daroth’s kingdom, and shortly after scrolls are discovered in the Library of the Ancients, with some read to the Kings; they begin to notice that something has changed.  It seems the veil is dropping, causing deep concern.

Gabriel is the first to sense something coming through veil, and we meet someone from the past, Lothrariel, the Warrior King of the Elven Empire from long long ago.  But he is alive, and with his brother, they pass through the veil and join the Kings.  The story focuses on how Lothrariel wrote some of those scrolls to protect all from the then rising demon attacks.  Now that after all these years, the demons have for the most part been defeated, and he comes back to help rebuild the Elven Empire to what it once was.  Together, Lothariel will work with all the kings, but there are some issues that need resolution, including saving Garoldth’s brother being held prisoner for a thousand years by the demons.   The majority of the story revolves around the kings uniting together to share the knowledge to restore the lands to its previous glory, as well as coming up with a plan for rescue.

As is Abraham’s trademark, these books are lots of fun, as more of the young sons of the kings are finding their mates.  With the successful spell by Eden a couple of books ago, Daroth’s elves are all having children and the land is becoming more prosperous.   Each of the Kings want Eden, Tamarak to come to their lands to enact the spell, so their people will start producing children, which has been missing for years.

The story ends well, but also opens the door for Lothariel to be a main part of the next book in this series.   As I noted above, M.A. Abraham writes a wonderful light story of elves, with romance, action, and just plain fun.  Return of the Legend continues this trend.

Description:
There’s always one more grave to dig.

Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war…

A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their lives—and those of everyone they hold dear— will be hovering on the edge of the grave

Review:
Up from the Grave by Jeaniene Frost is the 7th and final book in her wonderful Night Huntress series.  I am a big fan of this series, having loved it from the start, and each year I would anxiously await a new book.  I was sad when Jeaniene told her fans, that she was writing the final book for our fabulous couple Cat and Bones.  But having come to terms with this ending, I could not wait to read it, and Jeaniene does not disappoint.  Up From the Grave was a great final book, very exciting, lots of action, some tense moments when you thought your loved characters would die, and seeing all of our friends again; not to mention spending more time with Cat & Bones, made this that much more enjoyable.

The story begins with Cat and Bones at their home enjoying their peaceful time, and each other. Then Cat’s uncle Don alerts her that her old teammates, Tate, Juan, Dave and Cooper are all missing.  They suspect that Madigan, the man who took over for Don, and runs the research compound (trying to create a unique army by uniting vampire and ghoul bloodlines) is behind their disappearance.  They investigate and end up where it all began in the first book, when our Cat Crawfield was just a half vampire, and leading the attack at killing vampires; she is and always will be The Red Reaper.

I do not want to give spoilers, even more so as this being the final book and I will not ruin it for anyone.  I will say that this is an exciting adventure with so many revelations, two villains, and a major major twist more then half way through.  There is so much action, and it was fun just to see the old Cat fight against her enemies, even if at times dangerously close to be scary.  She is one of the best kick-assed heroines in the paranormal world. I loved Bones helping Cat, and they prove once again what a great team they are, besides a wonderful sexy couple.  The major twist in the last third of the book, showed another side of Cat emotionally, and how much she has learned from Bones.

One of the major reasons I loved this book, was seeing all of our favorites again, helping through this thrilling action filled adventure; Denise, who was great in this story; Mencheres,  Ian, Spade, Fabian, Vlad, Kira, Leila, Marie, etc, just to name a few.  Thank you, Jeaniene for allowing us to see them all together again.

Up From the Grave was a wonderful final book in this series.  There are so many things happening throughout the book, but again I do not want to spoil a thing.  Will we ever see Cat and Bones again? Hopefully one day in the far future, Jeaniene will give us glimpse in one of her other stories or novellas.  If you have not read this series, or this book yet, it is one of the best, not to be missed.  Again, thank you Jeaniene Frost for this fabulous series, and a fabulous couple.  We will miss Cat and Bones.

Rule Breaker
A Novel of the Breeds #29
by Lora Leigh
Genre: paranormal, adult, erotica
Release Date: February 4, 2014

Rule Breaker Feb 14

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 4, 2014

Lion Breed, Rule Breaker had just a few rules he didn’t break. Not for anything. Not for anyone.

#1. Never have sex with a woman outside his own subspecies, especially a human woman.

#2. Never, at any time, accept a mission concerning a female when Jonas Wyatt stinks of a lie.

#3. Run don’t walk, skip or stumble. Run, hell for leather away from any female, human or breed, when his desire for her appears, in any way, to have so much as a single sign of Mating Heat.

Now, the woman believes he’s mated, is too helpless, to fun loving and too full of life to ever be able to protect herself, let alone aide him in protecting her.

If the damned animal inside him insisted on a mate, then why pick the woman it did? One that could be struck out at, at any time?

But, what he suspected was a mating, may not be. No swollen glands? No heat? Just his animal instincts rioting, pacing, irritated whenever he’s away from her.

Okay, he could handle that.

What ensues is a fiery affair that breaks all the rules of mating heat and will eventually endanger his mate with the very rules designed to protect the breeds when Jonas learns she’s possibly been working against them.

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: RULE BREAKER is the twenty-ninth instalment in Lora Leigh’s paranormal Breed series focusing on a government experiment that went horribly wrong. Trying to create the ultimate warrior, the scientists combined animal DNA with human embryos resulting in a species that has been feared and tortured since their inception. Hoping to prevent their exposure, the Breeds are hunted, tortured and destroyed by the very people who created them. This is Rule Breaker and Gypsy McQuade’s story.

The call to mate is strong but every once in awhile there are those who refuse to acknowledge the existence of the ONE. Rule knows that Gypsy McQuade is his mate but refuses to stake a claim fearing that he should risk her life and her heart. What ensues is a storyline of one man who cannot stay away from the call of his mate but a storyline where his mate is the number one suspect in an act of betrayal against the Breeds.

With the release of RULE BREAKER Lora Leigh has addressed and answered many of the previous unknowns, quandaries and unfinished storylines. The buildup of a betrayer and the fight to save a young child’s life will come full circle as the reader is pulled into a struggle between family and friends. We are witness to a woman who knows rejection and betrayal at the hands of those that she loves but the pain only intensifies when the truth about her brother’s death and her family’s connections slowly destroy a heart that was broken so many years before.

Once again, Lora gathers many of the previous storyline characters as questions are answered and mysteries are solved. We watch as a father fears for the life of child and mate while another family begins to break apart when the truth is finally revealed.

RULE BREAKER is a must read for fans of Lora Leigh’s Breed series as a number of unfinished scenarios are addressed and the healing process can begin. Lora’s signature style of erotic sex and mating heat is tempered by a slow build up of the relationship between our leading couple. There is a heartbreaking period where you will feel the pain and humiliation for a woman who only wants to be loved but in the end it is the fear of loss and the unknown that will force a Breed male to reject the woman that he loves-even Breed men need a lesson in how to treat their mates!

Review:
As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of anything Kenyon, especially when it comes to her Dark Hunter series, and The League series.  So when I heard she was putting together this anthology I was stoked.  Let me just say, this is a perfect anthology to add to your Kenyon collection.  I thoroughly enjoyed having all my Kenyon novella’s at my fingertips in one collection.  No need to go scrounging around anymore to find them all to add to my ever growing Kenyon collection.  This was a wonderful treat for me to read and re-visit some of my favourite characters who aren’t focused on much in the other main stories.  For any Kenyon Menyon(nickname she calls her fans) this anthology is a must buy.  I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Now to keep this review at a decent length, I decided to review the two first time in print novella’s along with one other novella that was originally written as a thank you to fans. The other novella’s have all been published in other anthologies over the years, but all can be found in this long awaited edition.

Here’s a brief commentary/review those three novella’s;
House of the Rising Son(1st time in print)
Since this is a new novella in this anthology here’s a little description from Kenyon’s website on the hero and heroine;

Aricles-Hero
The eldest son in a family of three boys, Aricles had no desire to be a soldier, even though his fighting skills were among the best in the world. He was more than content on his small Atlantean farm, living a quiet, uneventful life. But when his brother is determined to don a soldier’s uniform, Aricles joins him with a promise to their father to bring his brother home in one piece. What he never counts on is how much their new lives will forever change them, or what the risk of a forbidden love will ultimately cost him.

Bathymaas-Heroine
The first and original goddess of justice, Bathymaas was created to keep Set grounded and on the side he’s supposed to be on. Due to her justice duties, she believes herself incapable of feeling. Something that causes her to run afoul of several gods, including Leto who can’t forgive her for not punishing Hera for Hera’s curse against her and her children. But when a bitter, ruthless betrayal costs her everything, Bathymaas becomes humanity’s and the gods’ worst nightmare.

This novella about Aricles and Bathymaas is basically a prequel to Styxx.  Ms. Kenyon gives us the chance to see just where Styxx and Bethany’s lives began and then how they came to be in Styxx.  We get to see how Aricles and Bathymaas meet, fall in love and then are torn apart through treachery at the hands of that bastard Apollo.  Man that god never changes, I hate him as much as I hate his twin the heifer goddess as Simi calls her(Artemis).  Kenyon does a superb job of creating and writing her villians.  I really enjoyed this one, as there were so many parallels to Styxx’s story, and I was making certain connections from the past to the present.  Kenyon does a great job once again weaving her tale and carrying us along a fast paced story, that flows seamlessly from page to page.  When I got to the last sentence, I was very tempted to pick up my copy of Styxx and start all over again.  This is a lovely addition to the Dark Hunter series.

A Dark Hunter Christmas
This is the special Christmas story that features the gangster Gallagher and Simi when Gallagher is temporarily relocated to New Orleans to help battle Daimons. Written as a gift for DH fans, it originally appeared in the back of the first edition of Dance with the Devil.

In Gallagher’s story, we learn of his past(being a gangster) and happily married to the love of his life.  However, one fateful night everything changes for him. While rushing to his wife’s side as she’s delivering their son, the cops show up to arrest him, and kill him on the spot.  Thus, he becomes a Dark Hunter, but is not able to have any contact with his wife and son.  It’s hard for him being a Dark Hunter knowing his family is still alive, but thanks to the Squire’s Council his wife and child are well taken care of.  Now it’s 70 yrs later, in New Orleans, and Gallagher rescues a female being attacked by Daimons, brings her to the hospital and meets his great granddaughter and isn’t allowed to let her know who or what he is now.  With this meeting all his memories of his wife and past life resurface.    Poor Gallagher is having a hard time dealing with everything, especially since his wife had just passed a way a year ago, and Ash went to tell him the news.  Feeling like he has nothing and no one Gallagher refuses to stay and celebrate Christmas with the Were’s and other Dark Hunters at Sanctuary. However, thanks to Simi, Gallagher develops a different outlook on life and families, and winds up celebrating Christmas with everyone at Sanctuary. This is a sad but sweet story.  Sherrilyn shows us just how hard it can be for a DH, and what they deal with every day regarding their emotions and existence.  The scenes with Simi and Gallagher are just so sweet and loving, and actually brought a few tears to my eyes.  I only wish the story were longer and that Gallagher would’ve found a new love at the Sanctuary Christmas party.  Who knows, maybe we’ll run across him in a future novel, here’s hoping.

Fear the Darkness(First time in print)
This was originally done as a special thank you to readers for all the great years and was available only as a digital download. It’s a small story about Nick’s homecoming to New Orleans after his mother’s death and after Katrina.  I knew from the beginning what was going to happen to Nick. I wanted the reader to see the birth of a Dark-Hunter, only to have it with a twist. And even though I knew what was going to happen, I still cried when I wrote the scene.

When Nick finally returns to New Orleans after becoming a Dark Hunter, it’s a year after Hurricane Katrina.  Kenyon not only shows the fans how Nick is dealing with not only his ‘death’, but his mom’s death, and also the destruction done to his beloved city.  Nick is very angry and pretty much wants to lash out at anyone and everyone, especially Ash.  His emotions are so strong they just pour off the page and make your heart break for him and everything that he’s lost in his young life.  This is a heart breaking yet touching novella.  The scene with Nick at his mom’s grave, running into Menyara and chatting with her just tore me apart.  It also helps to set the stage for future events regarding Nick in the DH series, as we see that he’s made a pact with Stryker and the Daimons to go against Ash, and we also get a little insight into the fact that Nick is more then just a DH. A little hint dropping at his powers of the Malachai.  This was a very nice thank you to all her fans, and I can see why Ms. Kenyon cried while writing it.  She had me tearing up a few times in this short, yet touching story of Nick.  I can’t wait to read his full length DH story when it finally comes out in the future.

To sum up my review, I enjoyed this anthology, and being able to going back and read about characters I don’t get to revisit with in her full length novels.  The other two short stories are fun and totally Kenyon, with your alpha males and quirky fun heroine’s.  Oh and let’s not forget that classic Kenyon humour.  Even though some of these short stories are more dark and serious, she still manages to strategically place that humour of hers in each story to lighten the mood at just the right spot.  If you are a Kenyon fan like I am, I’m telling you now, don’t wait, go out and get this anthology, it’s a must to have in your collection.

Until next time, happy reading.
