David Worthington, Viscount Fairly, has inherited a brothel he does not want, but hesitates to sell for fear his employees will not be treated well by the establishment’s next owner. He hits upon the idea of hiring Letty Banks, a courtesan currently without protector, to serve as madam, but soon finds himself attracted to her on more than just a physical level.

When serious harm befalls Letty as a function of her role at David’s brothel, he realizes he cannot continue to exploit a woman he cares for. He arranges a way for Letty to return to obscure respectability, and prepares to walk out of her life, only to find he cannot leave her undefended against the trouble bearing down from her past.

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks! I know …. what a shocker huh?? LOL

Dear Grace, I adore you! Love Rachel (one of your biggest fans and one who is still waiting for you to mail me my own Lonely Lord .. I will even let you pick who … but DAVID would be a great choice!) WINK

David by Grace Burrowes is the 9th book of her Lonely Lords series and WOWSA! We’ve met David a few times in her past LL books and he was always a bit of a mystery. We were teased with his personality and I have to admit I was REALLY happy to start his book. David Worthington is the Viscount Fairly who absolutely loves his family, is trained as a physician although he doesn’t formally practise, is proper as needed but flies by the seat of his pants in a fairly jovial manner (underneath is a fair amount of complicated though), and has inherited a brothel that he is quite unsure what to do with.

Letty Banks is a known courtesan that just so happens to have had David’s ex brother in law as her last protector before he died. Now Letty is left to make it on her own and she is slowly drowning in poverty and starvation. When a close friend brings this knowledge to David’s attention, David makes contact and ends up offering Letty the position of Madam at his brothel. This idea may kill two birds with one stone (David can carry on his life without worrying about the running of his brothel and Letty gets to eat and live a little better), but creates a whole wack of possible trouble for the couple.

David cannot seem to stay away from Letty who he comes to find rather guarded for a supposed courtesan. Letty is suspicious of everyone and their intention and rightfully so as the story begins to unravel. When Davis is pretty much up front with her about his attraction towards her, Letty finds she really wants to lower her walls and let him in a little. She also believes lowering her walls makes her vulnerable and she has too much trouble from her past to be vulnerable.

These two are so meant for each other and you know you are reading a great story when you start it and before you know it you are more than half way through and you have missed what real life has been happening around you. LOL Most of Grace Burrowes books are like this and I am considering writing a Do Not Disturb reading Grace Burrowes sign for my bedroom door. David is a charmer but a “lay it all out, you can trust me” charmer. These two do really start with a beautiful friendship and I think it is that friendship that enables them to take the next few steps. Letty of so complex and multi layered and experiencing David peeling these layers back made my heart happy! Let me tell you though .. Letty peels David’s layers just as well!

Another great read. I don’t like to give away much of the story, but those that have read my reviews know that I am a HUGE historical romance fan. Only a choice few series go on my “MUST KEEP” shelf, and The Lonely Lords is absolutely one of them!

One last thing … 9 books in this series, released all in one year. That blows my mind and one would think the quality would suffer. NO WAY did quality suffer here. Just goes to show how talented of an author we have here when ALL my reviews in this series have rated 5 out of 5.

Description:
Erotic romance writer Jenna Brooks lives an ordinary life in a quiet Oregon town, putting her sensual heart into her fiction rather than her everyday life. Deeply involved in her latest story about glamorous lovers on the run, she laughs off a carnival gypsy’s prediction that she’ll find everything she desires “between the sheets”—apparently those her DeskJet is printing. Because suddenly, Jenna finds herself drawn into her own stories, literally. When the seductive, mysterious Riley Stone rescues her from an attempted hit and run, she’s plunged into a reckless, wild relationship unlike anything she’s ever experienced—except on paper.

Meanwhile, Riley is feeling pretty upended himself. A specialist consultant with the FBI, he’s on a mission to derail a drug king-pin whose wealth and extensive real estate is managed by Jenna’s neighbor, he’d planned to ingratiate himself with Jenna just enough to gain access to her neighbor’s apartment so he can keep a close eye on his comings and goings. Instead, he finds himself not only drawn to Jenna, but falling for her, hard. On the heels of this realization comes the discovery that her new neighbor didn’t move in next door by chance: her father is the last hold-out against a drug-money fueled billion dollar development scheme and her neighbor plans to take and hold Jenna hostage until the necessary papers are signed.

As Riley struggles to keep Jenna safe, the romance they’ve woven could force them to pay the ultimate price: admitting they’ve fallen in love—for real.

Review:
Jenna was being watched by a hooded figure.  When a car comes barreling down upon her, aiming for her, the mysterious figure suddenly becomes Riley Stone, savior!  Undercover P.I. work (in collaboration with the FBI) placed him in the right place at the right time, but the attempt on Jenna’s life has acutely taken center stage.  Between the Sheets by Genie Davis and Linda Marr is a freshly written, suspenseful story that grips you right from the onset and has you prying your fingers off the book, clenched so tightly they were, when it’s done!  *When did Yoda start reviewing this book?*

So when his team noticed Evan’s attractive neighbor, they hatched a plan for Riley to meet her.  All Riley had to do was get invited inside her apartment, and then it would be a relatively simple matter to drill a slender hole in the wall and insert a fiber-optic recording device.  The rest of his team could take it from there.

Now…the fact that Riley is ready to jump Jenna’s bones probably interferes with the code of conduct during an investigation, right?  😀  He barely knows Jenna, but he knows he can’t charm his way into her apartment, plant a listening device, and consider her involvement over and out.  Especially when silencing Jenna seems to be her criminal neighbor, Evan’s goal. Who’s kidding who?  Riley’s interest in Jenna has already surpassed the original plan.  Just like that, Riley cares and the best part is that it’s reciprocated.  I felt their connection and it was potent.

She knew so little about Riley, yet she couldn’t remember a time when her body felt more alive.  There was an indefinable chemistry between them—primal, emotional and kinetic.

You’re wondering what I am, so I might as well say it:  Misrepresenting yourself is…ugh!…this is SO going to bite them in the ass and you know it!  Yes the storyline is a familiar one, don’t get involved with the informant, but that’s not even the case here.  When a book is making me break my own lights out “curfew”, you can be sure the writing, the mood, the pace…all very intriguing!

Did you notice I wrote “them” instead of just pointing a finger at Riley?  It seems our intrepid hero isn’t the only one covering up his true identity (although he’s got the advantage since he thoroughly researched Jenna).  While Jenna works in the family business of all things marine life, she moonlights as an erotic romance writer under the nom de plume of Jade Johnson.  Scandalous though it may be (not to us, of course!), Riley can’t figure out why Jenna’s involved in his case.  What does Evan want with her?!  Well, that includes this reader.

In all this talk (and swooning) over their budding romance (a passionate kiss and grope in a lighthouse!), I’ve been remiss to tell you that Jenna is being stalked for real.  Goons are chasing her and her creepy neighbor, Evan, always seems to pop up during opportune times.  Don’t forget he’s the one under Riley’s surveillance.  The man is trouble.  Hurry up and tell Jenna the truth, Riley; the situation has escalated to lethal consequences.  I can only hope Jenna is so relieved to discover Riley’s a good guy, that forgiveness is happily given?

Jenna was the all-too-disposable pawn in the game Tanner needed to win.  And it had struck him, during the long, damp, chilly night, that she was all but indispensible—to Riley.

There is one minor criticism I must mention:  The blurred line between this story and the story written by Jenna’s alter ego, Jade Johnson.  One minute I’m enjoying a scene between Riley and Jenna and then I’m reading about Jack and Abby, characters from Jade Johnson’s series.  I get that reality is starting to mirror fiction, it’s even gotten Riley into a bit of trouble, but I wish the writers would have used a different font to distinguish the fact from fantasy.

I really enjoyed this book.  Jenna and Riley fell into an immediate infatuation that blossomed into a romance, but omissions of truth do not a solid foundation make.  *Welcome back, Yoda*  Ms. Davis and Ms. Marr reveal details in a quick rhythm to keep the reader interested and there’s a good balance of drama and tension to maintain your attention.  I wanted to throttle Riley a time, or four, but he’s too swoon-worthy for grudges.  I would read more from this collaborative duo!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 17, 2014

Meet Liv Michaels
It may have been seven years, but I’d know him anywhere. Sure, he’s grown, filled out in all the right places, but his captivating blue eyes and cocky grin are exactly the way I remember. Even though I’d much rather forget.

Liv Michaels is almost there. She’s smart, determined and weeks away from landing the job she’s dreamed about for years. Time healed old wounds, even her broken heart from the devastation of being crushed by her first love.

Meet Vince Stone
Women love a fighter, especially a good one. Lucky for me, I’m damn good. But there’s one woman that isn’t interested. Not again, anyway.

Vince ‘The Invincible’ Stone is every woman’s fantasy…strong, sexy, confident and completely in control. Growing up surrounded by chaos, he’s learned never to get too attached. Love will drag you down. He adores women, treats them well, puts their own needs before his own…for the night anyway. With the biggest fight of his life coming up, his focus should be on training.

When fate brings Vince & Liv back together again, there’s no denying the chemistry is still there. But can Vince erase the old scars their past left behind? Or will Liv hurt him instead?

REVIEW: WORTH THE CHANCE is the second storyline in Vi Keeland’s contemporary, new adult, erotic romance MMA Fighter series. This is Liv and Vince’s storyline and one that advances the series by several years. Vince is the young street kid from the first storyline Worth the Fight.

The focus of Worth the Chance is a second chance at romance for our leading couple. Liv was Vince’s high school tutor and their past relationship was destroyed the night Vince refused to make love to a much younger Liv and walked away –never to be heard from again. Fast forward several years and Vince and Liv will get a second chance when Liv has been assigned (by her editor) to write a story about the successful MMA fighter Vince Stone.

As the storyline progresses, so too, does Vince and Liv’s relationship. There is an immediate attraction-one not forgotten in the ensuing years-but one that is more mature both sexually and emotionally.

Vince’s success as a fighter is quelled by his past-his mother’s history of drug abuse; the death of his father; and a life in the hardened world of mixed martial arts. But Vince’s life will darken once again when the truth behind Liv’s assignment will break his heart and push him over the edge of control.

The storyline is written from two distinct first person points of view-Liv and Vince including a couple of flashbacks about the past. The relationship between our couple is hot, sexy and spiced with a little bit of jealousy. The reader is pulled into an emotional story where the past meets the present and, comes full circle when a young man discovers that his entire life has been based on a lie. The world building continues from book one with the inclusion of Nico, Elle and Preacher that gives it a familiar feel.

Vi Keeland writes an engaging and intense story of second chances and discovering the truth. When your entire life has been built around a lie the only place to turn is to the future-and a new life with the people who love and support the person that you have always been.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release December 2013

Their friendship will test the fabric of tradition, duty and destiny…

There are only two seasons in Godenor: summer and winter. Weather brings the only surprises to a society where everything is planned, and everyone’s status is determined at birth…by the color of their hair.

Rinna has the right hair, Drexi the wrong, and Prelly is almost too ordinary — in every way but..

**********************

REVIEW: One of the greatest perks about reading is you get to escape reality and lose yourself in another world, time in history or era. It’s fun to lose yourself in forests that are bursting with color or opulent mansions but all I can say is you don’t want to lose yourself in this world I’m about to tell you about. This is a place call Godenor where you don’t Get to choose your destiny but your hair color does along with your irrh measurements like length, weight and other things. If you have blonde hair, you get an education and special treatment. If you have black hair and didn’t measure up, you likely got sent to a labor camp to be a servant or what they call a “dinwa”. This book reminds me Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and Lois Lowry’s The Giver where everything is planned and people’s destinies are chosen for them.

This book was a captivating page turner from the first page where one mother with the highest status falls from grace and another ordinary mother rises in status when she gives birth to the perfect child with a head full of golden hair. Rinna, Drexi and Prelly are three friends who start a ripple effect that will change the Allocation system of Godenor. They are all so different from each other but it’s those differences that bring them together. I really enjoyed their friendship but found myself saddened at times when it seemed like their friendship was strained because of their circumstances. Drexi, Rinna and Prelly all had traits that I really came to admire like Drexi’s strength, Rinna’s confidence and Prelly’s courage. Of the three, Drexi was the one who really stood out to me. Drexi was destined to be a ” dinwa” because of her black hair and her failure in her first exam but she in her own way chose who own destiny. I appreciated her rebellious ways from the labor camp and her fearlessness to take risks even if it meant for her to be killed. She showed much how she clearly had a mind of her own despite how controlling Godenor is to their citizens. She proved to be bright, and tough physically and mentally.

I honestly thought the “caste-like” system and allocations were downright stupid to let something other than yourself to decide your destiny. I felt like it affected Godenor in so many negative ways, it’s no wonder there was a group trying to start a rebellion against it. It was saddening to see Rinna long to choose her fate but feel hopeless when her fate is already decided for her. Or to see Drexi work so hard to prove herself so that she was worth more than becoming a “dinwa”. And who can forget poor Prelly that she felt so hopeless that she can’t find anything she is good at that she constantly feared for her future. A word of warning, this book did get intense with adult situations like rape, violence, abuse, and death. Don’t get me wrong because I really liked this book. This book was surreal, poignant and intense. This book is so jammed packed with emotion that you can’t put this book down without feeling unaffected, this book gets under your skin in ways you didn’t think of and draw a lot of emotions out of you. While I love happy themed books and happy endings, I also respect book that draw strong emotions out of you and thought-provoking such as this book. I admit that many aspects and elements of this book pissed me off to no end but I highly recommend this book and would even read this book again. 🙂

How is Deadline Stress Killing Your Writing?

Whether the deadline has been imposed on you by an editor, a publication date or even your own strict goal-setting rules, it’s stressful to be on a specific timeline. You’re working against the clock, and no matter how much time remains on that clock you can hear it ticking. It’s always there, it’s always waiting…and it’s always capable of causing you stress. But do you really know what deadline stress is doing to your ability to write?

eyes wide open

Under Pressure

Stress will affect your thought processes If you’re writing under duress and feeling the pressure, you won’t be writing at your best. Stress can wreck your concentration and even hamper your ability to take in new information. It will affect short-term memory (so you can’t keep track of what you’re writing) and leads to hasty decisions. None of this is the stuff of well-crafted writing.

Stress triggers a physical reaction as well. It can create tension in the muscles, speed up the heart rate and even affect your reflexes. You can’t write well if you’re writing tense and feeling frenzied. Stress is a real problem if you’re trying to write…so how can it be solved?

Clearly, the answer is to get rid of writing deadlines. Us creative types need time to think and digest and plan and imagine, right? The trouble is, that’s not going to happen. The deadlines are never going to go away, so every writer has to find their own healthy (stress-free) ways to deal with them.

Relief is Spelled R-E-L-A-X

You can’t change the deadlines, but you can change your approach to them and the way you manage them. Don’t let tasks fall through the cracks. Use a calendar program to keep track of your schedule and the tasks you need to complete. Google has one built-in, and you can even sync it to an app on your phone. When you know what’s in store for the day, and the week, there’s less risk that tasks will creep up on you.

Walk away every once in a while. Don’t just write continuously in an effort to stay ahead of the deadlines. Take a break every few hours. Go out with friends in the evening, or shopping in the afternoon. Creativity flows best when you free your mind, and you need recreation to avoid a stress overload.

Don’t wait. If you have time today to work on something that’s due tomorrow, then do it. Procrastination will only cause you more stress, and that makes it harder to complete your work. Get done ahead of schedule whenever possible.

And don’t forget to breathe. It’s going to be okay, even if you can’t make a deadline. Write an email, tell them you’re working on it and get back to grinding out those words. Just keep doing what you do, and it’s going to be fine. In other words, don’t let the deadline stress get to you. There will always be deadlines, but they’re not always going to beat you.

Escape / Longing by Chelsea Dorsette-a review

Escape / Longing by Chelsea Dorsette-a review

Escape and Longing

4 out of 5 for this reader folks!

WOWSA … that was some delicious smut. I’ll be honest, not too much character development or plot, in Escape as this book is primarily a collection of short stories, but her book Longing most assuredly had character development and a plot. I’ll also say, if you are in the mood for some straight up hot reading, Chelsea Dorsette is your kind of author.

Both Longing and Escape (two different books that have nothing to do with the other) are quick reads that deliver tingles in all the right places. Chelsea gets right to the point in her writing, and is very creative with her sex scenes. I really appreciate a creative side in an erotica author because let’s face it, how many different ways can a sex scene be written without boring the reader?!

For those that have boundaries, I will tell you that there are BDSM elements, one night stands, sexting, graphic language, lots of dirty talk and so much more. If you are not comfortable with that kind of reading then you most definitely need to take a pass. If you like a hot and dirty story, then read on! LOL

REVIEW

I REALLY enjoyed this novella. Better yet, a collection of short steamy stories. This is a set of the naughtiest fantasies coming true. Not so conventional and definitely HOT! Our characters have encounters in hotels, counter tops, limos … etc. I can’t choose a fave as they all brought something yummy and different to the table, but if you asked me which one stood out the most, I would have to say “The Limo”! One sexy female executive has one sexual encounter with two fellow sexy male executives in the back of a limo. SMOKIN’ HOT!

Each short story brings something a little different and I love that Chelsea mixes it up! A little menage, BDSM, voyeurism etc … this collection of stories is a keeper!

MINE TO KEEP (Mine #2) by Cynthia Eden

ABOUT THE BOOK: September 16, 2013

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO /

Mine to KeepLove is the most dangerous obsession…

Skye Sullivan is trying to put the pieces of her life back together. She survived a brutal stalker and escaped his abduction, and now she is looking to the future—a future that includes Skye’s lover, billionaire Trace Weston. Skye thinks the danger is finally over for her.

She’s dead wrong.

When Trace’s past comes back to haunt him, Skye discovers that the man she loves isn’t quite who he seems to be. Trace has been leading a double-life. An ex-special forces agent, his military training turned him into the perfect killing machine. He made more than his share of enemies during his time in the military—and as he built his security empire—and one of those enemies is striking back.

He won’t lose her.

Skye is the one weapon that can be used against Trace—his only vulnerability. But he won’t let her go—he can’t. Trace will do anything necessary to protect Skye. Anything. Yet when she discovers the secrets that he’s tried to keep hidden, Skye’s pain and rage may send her running directly into the cross-hairs of a killer…

REVIEW: MINE TO KEEP is the second instalment in Cynthia Eden’s Mine romantic suspense series focusing on a group of former special ops agents and the women they love. This is Trace Weston (billionaire, private investigator, former special ops) and Skye Sullivan’s (ballerina, dance instructor) continuing story. We were first introduced to Trace and Skye in book one MINE TO HOLD where Skye fell victim to a stalker-a living nightmare-and one that continues in her dreams and sleep. MINE TO KEEP furthers Skye and Trace’s story with Trace the target of an obsessed former ally.

The focus of the storyline is a warning of imminent death- the past is alive-and seeking revenge against the people responsible. Ten years earlier, a mission in Russia went horribly wrong-one death, two injuries and a decade of PTSD and a psychological nightmare for everyone involved. Fast forward to the present day and it appears the dead have risen and want revenge. When the people in Trace’s life begin to turn up dead, the former special ops soldier finds little solace in the people he once trusted as friends.

The relationship between Skye and Trace continues to be sultry and seductive. Our couple are now engaged and were looking forward to a future together, but Trace’s secrets and what happened in the past will push Skye until there is no where left to go.

Cynthia Eden writes a well-paced, suspense filled storyline where enemies are friends; friends are enemies; and everyone you love is targeted for destruction. The reader is pulled into a story of action, mystery, intrigue and the history between a group of friends who can no longer trust what they once believed to be true. The world building continues from the first book as we are introduced to Trace’s former colleagues and friends; learn about their history together; and what might be in store for the future.

REVIEW: MINE TO CRAVE is the fourth instalment in Cynthia Eden’s adult contemporary, erotic MINE suspense series. The series focuses on a group of former special ops friends and a secret they all share about a mission that went horribly wrong. This is casino owner/billionaire Drake Archer and Jasmine Bennett’s story. Drake’s connection to the failed operation in Russia comes full circle when he falls for the woman he finds stealing information from his casino files.

The focus of the story is Drake and his need to uncover the truth behind Jasmine’s aborted attempt to steal encripted information from the casino computer. With the help of Trace’s investigation team, Drake will discover that Jasmine is an enigma-not quite who she appears to be. When Jasmine warns Drake that the man wanting the information will kill them both, Drake realizes that the past is never quite buried and the dead are always looking for revenge. The investigation will lead to an abandoned warehouse where thought of losing someone that he loves will come to fruition when an explosion leave one man without his sister and another man with the woman that he loves.

The relationship between Jasmine and Drake begins as captive and captor leading to a sensual need of lust and sex. As the storyline develops, Drake will soon realize that the woman sent to steal information has stolen his heart-instead. Theirs is a need of desire; of survival; and never letting go.

MINE TO CRAVE is a fast paced, sometimes graphically violent and provocative storyline that chips away at one man’s psyche- a man who has withdrawn from the only family he knows because of the actions of his past. Cynthia Eden writes a series about friends who have been drawn together by a passion for survival, for revealing the truth and for proving that not everyone is to blame for the wrongs in life.
