Man that was one amazing highland read! Everything that I treasure in a historical/medieval/highland romance novel was present. You will find friendly banter among the warriors (speaks volumes of the kinship they feel towards on another), a feisty and easy to love heroine and her down to earth sidekick, one HOT leader who is captivated by this feisty heroine but has to stick to a code or sorts as opposed to falling in love with her, action packed battle, dreadful antagonists and a setting so beautifully described you are left with a stunning image in your mind. PERFECT MIX! 🙂

The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell by Paula Quinn is the first book of her new The MacGregors: Highland Heirs series. I have not read anything previous of Paula Quinn’s but I will say that I am bumping up her series on my TBR list. This series is a spin off of her previous series that feature the children of previous couples. I an excited to go back and read all about how they came to exist!

Edmund MacGregor is the epitome of a highland warrior. He is brave, strong, handsome, feared, deceptive as required, patriotic, and will do anything and everything he can to prevent a treaty from being signed allowing England to official own Scotland … even kidnap the daughter of a duke and the betrothed to a Chancellor who will be in attendance to this signing. Hoping to use this woman to force his enemies hands, it is quite ironic that it turns out it is his hand that is forced …. in love.

Amelia is a sweet beauty who lives her life loyal to her family. Haunted by “bad luck” she is somewhat looked as an disaster in the making but absolutely treasured by her father. When she is told to marry for the benefit of her country, she is prepared to do her duty. When she meets a visitor and experiences a stolen heart stopping embrace with him, her whole world is about to be turned upside down. Especially when her visitor kidnaps her and shows his true intent.

Throughout this novel we experience a wonderful story of how these two fight, embrace, admire, regard, love, and understand each other. You can see where the conflict of “how can we be together” arises and how they get to a point where they know they want to overcome it. Supported by cast of secondary characters that add their own spice to this story, these two go on a remarkable journey together.

If you love a good highlander novel, you have to check this book out! I was absolutely satisfied by the time the last page was read! LOL

Review:

Her Perfect Mate by Paige Tyler is the first book in her new X-Ops series. I have not read any of Tyler’s work, but after reading this book. I have to check out her other books. Her Perfect Mate was a fantastic romance suspense story that hooked me in right away, and left me totally impressed by Paige Tyler’s writing. I loved this book, which had everything; a fabulous suspenseful story, a couple to die for, different type of shifters, Special Ops hunks, excitement, super secondary characters, bad villains and wild crazy ride to the finish.

We meet our heroine, Ivy Halliwell, on a covert operations mission with her partner. From the start you can tell Ivy and her partner do not get along. The mission goes badly, as the partner went on his own and got himself killed.

Next we meet our hero, Landon Donovan, who is a captain of a special forces operation. Landon is forced to abort an operation, and is sent back home to Washington, not understanding why. He finds himself in a secret underground compound, which belongs to a high level secret US government agency, DCO (Department of Covert Operations). Landon meets Ivy, who is a beautiful young woman, who he is surprised to learn is his new partner. Landon will soon find out that she is as much as an equal or even better at some things then he is. Ivy isn’t thrilled that she is paired with a Special Forces officer, whom she has not has success with. Why? Ivy is a Feline Shifter, and the men she partnered with did not respect her ability. But Landon is different. At first he doesn’t know what Ivy is, but begins to learn that she is very good at what she does. Both begin difficult training for future missions as partners, and soon they find themselves feeling more than respect for each other….the sparks fly off the wall. But it is dangerous for them to become involved, as DCO rules forbid romantic relationships between partners.

At this point, the story becomes so exciting, I could not put it down. Not only did I love both Ivy, and her cat like moves; but Landon was so swoonworthy. He was a gorgeous hunk, an awesome soldier, a truly sweetheart of a guy. He to her surprise, was on her side from the start, and didn’t care that she was a shifter. This was a beautiful, sweet romance. But the crux of the story escalates with the second half of the book filled with action, danger, suspense, life threatening situations, not to mention the thrilling ride to the climatic ending.

Not to give any spoilers, but the dangerous mission that Ivy and Landon are sent on, involves missing scientists being kidnapped to help the villains build an unknown weapon of destruction. Landon and Ivy find themselves in the heat of the action, with on one to help them. When things go wrong, Landon will have to bring some of his awesome friends to help him. I want to know more about these wonderful Special Ops solders from Landon’s team, as well as few of the nice DCO people. Paige Tyler has built a great story, with fantastic characters. I cannot wait to continue this series. If you like suspense, excitement, nonstop action, adventure and a super great couple; you need to read Her Perfect Mate.

REVIEW: LOVER BE MINE is the second instalment in Nicole Jordan’s Legendary Lovers historical romance series. This is Lord Jack Wilde and Sophie Fortin’s story-a tale not unsimilar to Romeo and Juliet where a decades old feud has left two families bitter and Sophie’s family without a title or a royal name. Nicole Jordan weaves a fractured Shakespearean tale where our couple will fall in love much to the disdain of Sophie’s family when an arranged marriage has already been in the works that will insure Sophie’s family a title and connection to a royal seat. Each book can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty.

The focus of the series is on the five Wilde cousins who, through young Kate and Skyler Wilde, have made it their job to ensure each of the cousins finds love. With reference to fairy tales and Shakespeare’s plays, the youngest Wilde’s set into motion a plan that will see their cousin Jack fall in love with Miss Sophie Fortin-but not before a battle of wills forces Jack and Sophie to reconsider what it is, that they want. Sophie is a strong willed woman-when she wants to be- but has a very difficult time saying no to her father. Her mother’s ‘depression’ and her father’s loss of prestige is used constantly as a form of blackmail to ensure Sophie’s compliance and in this she is a character whose personality flickered between weak willed and combative. Her feelings waffled constantly, and at times, was an irritant to both Jack and the reader, as well.

The passionate storyline follows Jack and Sophie as they dance around one another and the private and public morals of the day. The sexual tension is palpable; Jack’s need for Sophie is demanding and true. Theirs is a sensual affair that will pit two families against one another should the truth be revealed about their already burgeoning romance. Emotions run deep when a man refuses to acknowledge his birthright but must do so to win the hand of the only woman he has ever loved.

Nicole Jordan pulls the reader into a seductive storyline where one couple will unite two families torn apart by a blood feud that tells a different tale then history remembers. LOVER BE MINE is an engaging tale where Romeo fell in love with his Juliet but no one was harmed in the end.

REVIEW: KING OF THIEVES is the second instalment in Jane Kindred’s ‘Demons of Elysium’ erotic, fantasy series-a spin off from her House of Arkhangel’sk Trilogy. This is the continuing story of airspirit demon Belphagor and the love of his life firespirit demon Vasily. The Demons of Elysium is a sexually graphic M/M series where nothing and no one is off limits. KING OF THIEVES follows Belphagor as he attempts to close down a child prostitution and pedophilia ring in Heaven but in doing so will lose the only man that he has ever loved. The storyline advances the series about eighteen months.

The focus of the King of Thieves finds Belphagor involved in a sting to take down a child prostitution ring but using demon children (known as the Lost Boys) is not high on the list of Heaven’s problems. Jane Kindred has written another graphically detailed and sexually explicit storyline. The reader is pulled into a fantasy storyline about Heaven’s missing and exploited children; where pedophilia is rampant amongst the Nephilum; and one man risks everything to protect the innocent from harm.

Once again, the world building continues from the previous storyline wherein Heaven’s landscape is reminiscent of early twentieth century Russia. There is a destructive chasm between the rich and the poor; between Heaven and the World of Man; and a proclivity to use the most innocent when sexual perversions are at the helm. Many of the previous storyline characters play a secondary role giving King of Thieves a familiar edge.

KING OF THIEVES is not a story for everyone. It is, at times, difficult to understand the needs and wants of our leading characters. Belphagor is a Dominant male who has fallen in love with a man who needs to be dominated but is not a submissive. Vasily is a man/boy-barely twenty years old-who has fallen in love with Belphagor. He is naïve, at times, a little slow on the uptake and is oblivious to the little nuances that make Belphagor the man that he is. The relationship between our leading couple is sensual, sexual, graphic and bordering on abusive. Belphagor is a demon who does not know how to love and in doing so pushes Vasily further away-every time.

KING OF THIEVES is a story of suspense, betrayal, mystery and love. This is not a romantic storyline but a story of love between two men who must learn to accept one another; open up about their pasts; and forgive. Jane Kindred’s stories are not about God and spirituality but about two worlds-Heaven and the World of Man-that are more similar than they are different.

REVIEW: PRINCE OF TRICKS is the first instalment in Jane Kindred’s adult,fantasy ‘Demons of Elysium’ erotic, M/M spin off series from her House of Arkhangel’sk trilogy. Demons of Elysium is (so far) a prequel series focusing on airspirit demon Belphagor and firespirit demon Vasily. Like the House of Arkhangel’sk series there runs a parallel theme between Heaven and Earth (World of Man) where Heaven’s political infrastructure closely matches that of the early twentieth century Russia. The similarities and familiarity blend two worlds from the modern day Russian homeland and that of an earlier time.

Belphagor is a dominant lover who has fallen madly in love with the high spirited, reckless firespirit demon and former rent-boy Vasily. I used to be “Isabel Jenkins, child prodigy.” As lame as that sounds, at least it was an identity. But now I’m not sure what I am. I just failed the most important exam of my life—the emotional readiness test required to get into a medical residency program—and it turns out my parents can’t stand each other. Now I’m trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces of my life, and that means re-enrolling as a college freshman, but this time I’m shutting the books and majoring in being eighteen.

But so far, my roommate hates me and I’m not into the party scene. The only good thing about school has been getting to know my insanely hot RA. Marshall Collins makes me wonder about everything I missed while I was growing up too fast. Pretty soon we’re hanging out constantly, but for the first time, I find myself wanting more than a no-strings-attached physical relationship. And the lesson I really need is one Marsh definitely can’t teach me: love. Because I’m going to be alone forever if I don’t learn fast.

Review:

Third Degree by Julie Cross is her first try at New Adult. Written in a similar style she wrote for Letters to Nowhere, Julie once again gives us a different, but very well written & refreshing story of a coming of age of a young prodigy. Isabel Jenkins is a medical genius, and is expecting to receive a residency at the famous John Hopkins hospital at the age of 18. When she fails the emotional readiness test for the residency, Izzy is thrown for a loop, as she has never failed in anything before. The problem, despite her ability to be the best doctor in the hospital, she has no bedside manner; she is socially inept, being too abrupt & direct, not to mention robotic when dealing with patients and families.

Izzy never had a normal childhood, and she is sent by her family to spend a semester living on campus to learn about life, friends, and normal relationships. She immediately meets our hero, Marshall, who is the RA in her dorm. What follows is a wonderful story that starts out as friendship, and then a beautiful romance. There were so many humorous parts, where Izzy is totally out of her element, but Marsh was usually there to teach her what she does wrong and how to act. I really got a kick out of Marsh teaching Izzy, and believe me some of the things she did at first were hysterical.

It is the slow build of their romance that is the crux of the story. They both find themselves falling in love with each other, with each having their own issues that would bond them, but also threaten the longevity of their relationship. Julie Cross does a wonderful job of allowing us to see Izzy slowly change from a direct and unfeeling person to a young woman whom we came to care very much about by the end of the book. Marsh was such a great character from beginning to end. I loved how sweet and patient he was with Izzy, not to mention how sexy he was when their relationship turned steamy. I am not going to give spoilers, but I loved how Julie gave us the vulnerability & trusting side of Marsh; then the strong loving emotional side of Izzy when she needed to be there for Marsh. Third Degree was wonderfully written story, with a tense and great ending. I enjoyed this book by Julie Cross, and I’m sure you will too.

This is bar own Delilah Fairchild and ex FBI agent Mac McMillan’s –a friends to lovers-story. And as per usual, Julie Ann adds the beginnings of a storyline for a future couple.

The focus of the story is on Black Knights search for Delilah’s missing uncle Theo. With the CIA now involved due to Theo’s government connections, all hell will break lose when terrorists set on revenge target Delilah and her uncle as the ultimate pawns in a game of nuclear threat and pay back.

As the storyline progresses Delilah and Mac’s relationship continues to crumble as the ghosts from Mac’s past continue to haunt him every time he looks at Delilah. The sexual tension is high; the anger and anxiety is palpable; and the seductive nature of their attraction puts everyone on edge. Mac is man who has been burned, in more ways than one, and placing himself in a position to be hurt, is something he never-ever-plans on doing again. He will hurt Delilah with his emotional withdrawals and cold rebukes and, in the end he may have lost the only thing that was ever good in his life. The characters are strong yet vulnerable to the heartbreak and hurt.

Julie Ann Walker writes an amazing storyline of suspense, mystery and action. The relationship between Ali and Nate begins as friends to lover but along the way Nate will push Ali away believing she holds him responsible for the death of her brother.

The sex scenes are hot, sensual and a release because the sexual tension between our leading couple can be felt throughout the storyline. The storyline is told through a combination of memories, flashbacks and present day where we will discover the truth behind Grigg’s death and the fall out of a war that no body wants to lose. The secondary characters are colorful, heartbreaking and exuberant and, there is a building story between Rebecca (Black Knight’s mechanic) and Frank “Boss’ Knight-the leader of BKI. If you want a storyline that will make you cry, Hell on Wheels is a great start to what should be an amazing series.

Julie Ann Walker pulls the reader into a story of second chances and forgiveness. Jake and Michelle have both made mistakes but when the Black Knights are targeted for extermination, the collateral damage will affect everyone including the people that they love.

The relationship between our leading couple is tense and full of what ifs and whys. Questions need to be answered; sins needs to be forgiven; and the truth must be revealed before anyone is able to move on. The sex scenes are steamy, seductive and fuel the imagination.

REV IT UP is an exciting story where secrets fuel the suspense; where revenge is only a moment away; and where family is everything. The plot is well paced; the secondary characters bring a semblance of familiarity to the storyline; the writing style is evenly paced, evenly balanced and welcoming. Julie Ann Walker adds another dimension into the Black Knights family-a family that begins to grow one generation at a time.
