•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE RIDING MASTER is the second instalment in Alexandrea Weis’s adult, contemporary romance series. This is Rayne Masterson Greer and Trent Newbury’s story with a ‘tie in’ to Alexandrea’s Cover To Covers storyline.

The premise focuses on Rayne and Trent’s building relationship and Rayne’s inability to trust. Rayne’s marriage ended when she caught her husband in bed with a much younger woman and she has had issues of trust ever since. Trent is the new riding master at Southland Stables where Rayne teaches the younger children to ride and their attraction to one another is immediate. With Rayne’s inability to trust and Trent’s history with innumerable women, Rayne’s afraid of losing her heart to a man who makes it very easy for her to love.

The relationship between Rayne and Trent begins as friends but moves to lovers within a short period of time. Rayne’s lack of experience in the bedroom is fueled by the knowledge that Trent is a man who knows what he wants and he wants Rayne for his very own. But the past has a funny way of sneaking into the present when both Rayne and Trent’s exes show up to the same party where Rayne will be introduced to Trent’s co-workers and friends. Perhaps there is someone working behind the scenes to ensure Trent and Rayne never get together.

The secondary characters are colorful and Rayne’s emotions are fueled by their one on one conversations. Rayne is a stubborn and sometimes frustrating woman whose self image and self esteem have been damaged by her previous marriage. Add an alcoholic mother and the death of her father and we see a woman who has had very little to enjoy-her horse and her dog are the only true constants in her life.

Trent is a man of wealth and experience. Sure of himself and what it is he wants, Trent pursues our heroine but Rayne continues to push Trent away at every opportunity until she may have pushed him too far.

Alexandrea Weis writes a beautiful storyline of betrayal and trust; hope and love; second chances and a happily ever after. There is a small ‘tie-in’ to Weis’s COVER TO COVERS storyline that gives THE RIDING MASTER a familiarity to the readers. Alexandrea will continue to add the ‘tie-ins’ in future storylines and we hope we see a little more about each of the couples introduced throughout the ‘series’.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 6, 2014

One mistake. And everything changes. For Monroe Blackwell, one small mistake has torn her family apart –leaving her empty and broken. There’s a hole in her heart that nothing can fill. That no one can fill. And a summer in Louisiana with her Grandma isn’t going to change that…

Nathan Everets knows heartache first-hand when a car accident leaves his best friend in a coma. And it’s his fault. He should be the one lying in the hospital. The one who will never play guitar again. He doesn’t deserve forgiveness, and a court-appointed job at the Blackwell B&B isn’t going to change that… Captivating and hopeful, this achingly poignant novel brings together two lost souls struggling with grief and guilt – looking for acceptance, so they can find forgiveness.

••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: BOYS LIKE YOU is a contemporary, young adult storyline that focuses on two teens who have experienced more heartache and pain than many adults.

Sixteen and half year old New Yorker Monroe Blackwell is spending the summer with her Grandmother in Louisiana. Still grieving from a loss that will haunt her the rest of her life, Monroe will meet seventeen year old local bad boy Nathan Everets-a young man whose life took a sudden turn when a car accident left his best friend in a coma and near death. With  Nathan as the driver, the blame has been placed squarely on the shoulders of a teenager who thought he was okay to drive. Choices were made and consequences were delivered. Now two lost souls will find one another in a summer of romance, resolutions and love.

Juliana Stone pulls the reader into a heartbreaking storyline about two teens who have had to experience loss and the startling realization that one mistake can snowball with fatal results. BOYS LIKE YOU is a story that is emotional in its’ presentation, traumatic in its’ content, and passionate in its’ ideals. Monroe and Nathan are your average teenagers, with families, friends and hobbies until one day each will experience the horrific loss that will result in two broken souls who have no hope of ever finding peace in their own little corner of the world.

The characters are relatable, likeable and you can empathize with the pain and suffering for two families whose losses are different but no less traumatic. The storyline is fast paced, well structured and told from alternating first person points of view (Monroe and Nathan). The building summer romance between Nathan and Monroe will culminate with a Labor Day goodbye but one that will see promises made forever.

Because this is a young adult storyline, there is no graphic sex but sex does happen behind the scenes and it is implied. And unlike many YA storylines there is NO love triangle to interfere with this reader’s enjoyment of the book. BOYS LIKE YOU by Juliana Stone is a tale taken from many of today’s headlines. Where choices are made without forethought or implication; and where guilt overrides any sense of self worth when the family left behind must face the ones who have survived every day of their life. This is a story of letting go and allowing a stranger to catch you when you fall.

Guest Post Black and Yellow

The Delighted Reader

Guest Post: Boys Like You

I’m happy to be here today and chat a bit about my book, BOYS LIKE YOU. First off, in case you don’t know I’ve been writing adult romances for a few years now. Started off writing paranormal romance and branched into contemporary romance. (I also write new adult under the pen name Julie Bale)

So, I’ve been around the block, but throughout this process I’ve always wanted to write a young adult novel, and for one reason only, my daughter. She’s a voracious reader and I wanted to be able to give her a book she and her friends could read. Voila, BOYS LIKE YOU was born!

When I set out to write this book I knew that music had to play some part in it. Growing up in a musical home, it was always an important part of my life and still is. Back when I was younger (much younger if you want to know the truth ☺ ) I was the lead singer in an all girl rock band and that’s in fact how I met my husband. He was a guitar player, so I guess for me, there’s always been a part that gravitates toward music and well, hot guitar players!! We still gig on occasion though the big hair, spandex and shoulder pads are (thankfully) a thing of the past.

In this book, my main character Nathan is a guitarist, but for several reasons his joy of music is much diminished. That’s the thing about music, it’s effect on us can be powerful. How many times have you listened to a song and cried? I can listen to a piece of instrumental music and if there is the right combination of minor notes? The melancholy and sadness they evoke can be just as powerful as watching an intense and emotional scene in a movie.

Although music is more of a metaphor in this book, (Nate’s inability to truly enjoy it until he faces his past) it’s still a powerful thing. I hope you all enjoy Nathan and Monroe’s journey as they slowly learn to forgive themselves for the choices they made. Side note, the original title of this book was called, Back To Good, and yes it was based on the Matchbox Twenty song of the same name!

SAVING HIS MATE (Crescent Moon #4) by Savannah Stuart-a review

Saving His Mate

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 1, 2014

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble /

From the moment vampire bounty-hunter Rex Serano meets sexy shifter Margery, he’s smitten. When the alpha of the Kincaid pack asks him to join with them, he’s stunned by the offer, but the real draw is the beautiful, caring female who seems to want nothing to do with him.

Margery is the driving maternal force for her pack and she has one rule: she doesn’t date vampires. Years ago she was nearly killed by rogue vamps and she has no interest in getting involved with one now. No matter how sexy a certain, persistent bounty hunter might be.

When one of Rex’s hunts gets messy, Margery gets caught in the crossfire and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her. They might be different species but the mating call is undeniable and too strong to ignore. Now they must find a way to reach common ground and trust their instincts if they’re going to fight for a future together.

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SAVING HIS MATE is the fourth instalment in Savannah Stuart’s (aka Katie Reus) adult, contemporary Crescent Moon paranormal romance novella series. This is wolf shifter Margery and vampire bounty hunter Rex Serano’s storyline. Although this is the fourth in the series, SAVING HIS MATE can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty.

While on the hunt for a rogue vampire, Rex crosses into the Kincaid Pack territory where he will meet wolf-shifter Margery. Rex knows immediately that Margery is his mate but convincing the reticent shifter is another matter. Margery has a history with the vampires and she wants nothing to do with Rex or his kind. When Rex is offered a position within the Pack he knows that his future with Margery is almost a guarantee.

The relationship between Rex and Margery is quick to develop as there is only so much room in a novella series to tell a story. From friends to lovers theirs is a relationship that is beckoned by the fates. There is an immediate attraction between our couple-one not readily accepted by all of the vampires or shifters-and in this Margery will become the pawn in a bigger game. Rex is a well respected and trustworthy vampire and, Margery is the Pack ‘mother’ who ensures everyone is looked after.

Savannah Stuart pulls the reader into a quick paced, romantic and sexy storyline. The secondary characters are colorful and bring a sense a familiarity to the story as the world building continues with the previous storyline characters and landscape.

If you are a fan of Katie Reus than Savannah Stuart’s Crescent Moon series is sure to please. There is a little bit of everything-romance, sex, suspense and a happily ever after.

Sinful Seduction appears in Sinful Seconds anthology

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SINFUL SEDUCTION is the eighth storyline in Katie Reus’s contemporary, romantic Red Stone Security suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Red Stone Security. This is former marine Alexander Blue and artist Mina Holligsworth’s story which begins with a chance encounter on the streets of Key West. Thwarting an attempted abduction, Alexander will be pulled into the upheaval that is Mina’s life-one she has kept secret for her own safety.

The focus of the storyline is on the search for the people responsible for the attempted abduction of Mina Hollingsworth. Mina’s family history is one right out of the society and financial pages of big business and Mina has become the target of people hoping to get rich-quick. When her security team does not respond, Mina is quick to discover that Alexander and The Red Stone Security Team have placed themselves in danger to protect her life. As the search for the threat continues she will get news that will devastate her life-once again.

The relationship between Mina and Alexander is quick to build-from a street rescue to a declaration of love a matter of one week will pass but not before our couple will discover what it is that each wants in life-to be loved and to fall in love-in this, Mina and Alexander will find their happily ever after. Mina is an independent woman whose success does not depend on finding her other half but when she does, she knows that Alexander is the man for her. The sexual tension is high as Alexander tries not to cross the line but Mina is a woman who knows what she wants-and she wants Alexander.

The world building continues with the inclusion of some of the previous Red Stone Security story characters and the potential for a new employee and storyline. SINFUL SEDUCTION is a story with suspense and mystery; tense moments on the run; and the sinful seduction of two people who meet under less than perfect circumstances. There is loss and heartbreak for a woman whose personal life has been turned upside down but in the end, she will come out ahead with a new direction and someone with whom to share it with.

Surrender Trilogy – #2
About the Book: Release Date May 6, 2104

Kylie sees the way Jensen looks at her. The dark promise in his eyes. That rough edge of dominance she knows he possesses. But dominance is the one thing that frightens her above all else. She and her brother barely survived a childhood steeped in violence and abuse. She could never give up total control and submit to a man. Especially a man like Jensen. Could she?

Jensen sees the shadows in Kylie’s eyes. Knows he has to tread very carefully or risk losing any chance he has with her. All he wants is the opportunity to show her that dominance doesn’t equal pain, bondage or discipline. That emotional surrender is the most powerful of all, and that to submit—fully to him—will fulfill the aching void in her heart in a way nothing else ever will.

Review:
Kylie survived a horrific childhood. And, then, the unthinkable happened. Her brother, Carson, the one who forged a life for them, was killed. She has her small circle of friends, her job as office manager at the company that her brother and his best friend, Dash, built from the ground up. Before Carson’s death, he and Dash had already discussed bringing in another partner. Dash makes the decision to bring in Jensen Tucker. Kylie is less than thrilled. She knows down to her toes that Jensen is overbearing and used to getting what he wants. But, she knows that Dash needs the help, so, as long as Jensen keeps his distance, no harm, no foul. And, oh yeah, he wants her!

Once Dash and Joss leave for their honeymoon, distance isn’t a thing that Jensen is willing to give Kylie. He knows that everyone has made it easy for Kylie in order to protect her fragile psyche, but he also knows that she is being way underutilized in her current position. He sees more potential in her than anyone else sees, even Kylie herself. So, he gives her a project to work on that will bring her in line to become a partner. Even though she balks at first, Jensen convinces her to give it a try. When she gets started on said project, she finds herself thoroughly enjoying the work and begins to think “what if”………… Maybe she can function in a larger role within the company. But will she be able to move past her horrid past and truly be able to function in the corporate world? And, will she be able to act on the attraction that sizzles between her and Jensen and find herself giving in? Well, my friends, you’ll have to read to find out.

I have to say that I was worried about how this book would turn out, even back before I read it. To say that the abuse Kylie suffered was horrible is an understatement. And, for Banks to pair her with a dominant just didn’t sit well with me. But, I went into this one with my mind open. After all, everyone knows that I worship Maya Banks. So, after reading this one, she only solidified my stance that she is absolutely one of the best authors in this genre EVER! The way she writes Kylie’s insecurities and the way Jensen handles them is brilliant. Jensen has his own horrific past that he has overcome, or at least he thought he had. Their chemistry sizzles on the pages.

I know that some will probably complain about the way Jensen gives over control to Kylie in order to ease her fears, but I thought it was spot on. More than anything I’ve read in a long time, this is about a couple who truly have demons to overcome and are willing to take the necessary steps to solidify their relationship. Of course, there is a bump or two along the way, but the resolution of the bumps is definitely worth the read. I’ve read everything that Banks has ever written, and I have to say that this one is near the top for me. Giving In is ultimately about trust, redemption and love. Well done Maya Banks. Once again, very very well done.

Snowed Under by Jen Greyson-a review

SNOWED UNDER (Wunderland Series) by Jen Greyson-a review

Snowed Under

$1.99 ebook: Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date april 25, 2014

Hippie + Logger = Enough heat to melt the fiercest Alaskan snow storm.

Cassidy has life all figured out. She’s one semester away from finishing her degree and then she’s off to save Mother Earth. But first, she has to stop the planet-murdering Whetman Logging.

Teague Whetman brought MIT home to the family logging business in Alaska. They’re high-tech artesian. But even his advanced technology can’t handle Cassidy’s handcuffs when she chains herself to the main saw.

When a late-Spring storm hammers the little town of Bear Ridge with eighty inches of snow, Teague and Cassidy must put aside their animosity to battle a power outage, an angry moose, and their own attraction.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SNOWED UNDER is the contemporary, new adult, erotic romance storyline (novella) from author Jen Greyson. The focus of the story is on environmental activist Cassidy and Alaskan logger Teague Whetman. Cassidy is determined to shut down Whetman operations in Alaska but is unprepared for the storm that rages outside and inside of her heart.

Written from alternating first person POVs (Cassidy and Teague) the premise follows Cassidy as she leaves the warmth of hometown San Diego behind landing in the wilds of Alaska preparing to protest against Whetman Logging. When a fierce winter storm shuts down everyone and everything Cassidy finds herself a reluctant houseguest of the man whose business she was targeting. Enter one angry moose, an avalanche, eight feet of snow, power outages and a shortage of food Cassidy is definitely out of her element.

The attraction between Cassidy and Teague is immediate. Near frostbite, a concussion and a raging moose push Cassidy and Teague closer together but Cassidy is left struggling between her beliefs and her attraction to Teague Whetman. Cassidy’s eyes and her mind will be open to the possibilities that not all logging is an environmental catastrophe waiting to happen. Without controlled logging, many people (and animals) would never survive.

Jen Greyson pulls the reader into a winter wonderland of ice and snow. From the darkened forests of Alaska and the men who work and live the terrain, SNOWED UNDER is a romantic storyline about two people who would never have met under any other circumstances until a feisty young woman protester tugs at the heart of a man who has been without a woman for a very long time.

One Scandalous Season Series by Lily Dalton-a review

One Scandalous Season

4 out of 5 for this reader folks!

I love it when I discover a new author in a fave genre. The One Scandalous Season series by Lily Dalton had a great balance of all the elements I love in historical romance. We have some tradition, rakes, scandalous ladies, angst, sass, stubbornness, wealth, poverty, misunderstandings, action, a sense of friends and family and a secondary cast that make sure you have a chuckle here and there. Tie all these together and you get “Never Desire a Duke” and “Never Entice and Earl”.

REVIEW

OH MY! I listened to this book, and I have to say the narrator really nailed this performance. My heart pounded in my chest, leaving me a ball of emotion. She had the voices down perfectly, her pace and tones complimentary to the story!

Lady Sophia has just been living her life day by day. Married to Lord Claxton, yet estranged, she is shocked when one day out of the blue Claxton decides to pop back in her life with the desire to make their marriage work. Sophia however, so scarred from a past full of misunderstandings with Claxton, not to mention a huge loss that has left her heart broken, isn’t interested in what Claxton has to say.

(85,000 words)

REVIEW

I really enjoyed this book. it was slow to start but once it got going .. BAM! Lady Daphne is Lady Sophia’s sister. She is sweet and kind, a realist in many ways, about to experience her first season and the most coveted of the ton. She does not like the idea of marriage and vows to never marry. She is fiercely protective especially to her lady’s maid Kate who has found herself in a world of trouble. Deciding to disguise herself as Kate, Daphne plunges into the dangerous side of London to take care of Kate’s debt.

Lord Cormack is on a mission. He must find a certain villain that has done his family wrong, and serve a good dose of vengeance. When he rescues and shares a moment of passion with a beautiful woman on the wrong side of town, he is gob smacked when that same woman appears in the ballroom and apparently is a member of a wealthy family. Deciding that this information can aid his own cause, Cormack blackmails Daphne into helping him. Cormack suddenly realizes that the table are turning when the level of passion and perhaps love escalates, and he gets more than he bargains for.

These two books are very different but have similar elements. Book one is more heart wrenching and angst filled, while Book 2 is more action packed. Both tell a great story of love, and the couples really are complimentary to one another. I am really looking forward to the third book anticipating the ride I’ll be taken on next. If you love historical romance, this is a great series to add to your list!

HAPPY READING!

Mercy

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / The Book Depository

RELEASE DATE: May 6, 2014

After she infiltrated his business and betrayed his trust, a disavowed CIA agent must seek sanctuary in the bedroom of a man who will either help her, kill her, or bring her to her knees

Becca Ford is on her own. Eight months after she headed up a sting operation to take down millionaire club owner Jarrett Holt, the other agents in her special ops team have been eliminated under odd circumstances, and she needs a place to hide.

Jarrett is a man who prefers darkness to light. He deals in the only truly valuable currency—information—and his supper club caters to an exclusive clientele. It was an uncharacteristic moment of weakness when he let a woman into his life. But it’s not luck that the criminal charges disappeared . . . as did the evidence.

When Becca returns to the club seeking his help, Jarrett doesn’t want to hear her story. But he does want her body, and demands that she give it to him. He’ll keep her safe—for now—but it’ll be in his bed and on his terms, until he says they’re done.

••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: MERCY is the latest adult, contemporary, erotic romance storyline from author HelenKay Dimon. I am unsure as to whether MERCY will be part of a continuing series, but there are so many more stories to tell-the secondary characters are colorful, intriguing and play a major role in the premise and buildup of MERCY. This is billionaire nightclub owner Jarrett Holt and former CIA operative Becca Ford’s storyline.

The focus of the story is a second chance at love following Becca’s heartbreaking betrayal and the subsequent imprisonment of Jarrett eight months earlier. As a CIA operative, Becca’s last assignment was to infiltrate Jarrett’s business but in doing so she found herself falling in love with the CIA’s target. Fast forward eight months and Becca is on the run-trying to stay one step ahead of the people trying to take her down-and her only option is the man she sent away months before.

The continuing relationship between Becca and Jarrett is sensual, sexual and emotionally heartbreaking. Jarrett lost his heart to Becca only to discover Becca’s love was all a ruse-a ruse to take down Jarrett and expose him for the drug dealing/international terrorist that she was told to believe. With a second chance to right the wrong, Becca will become Jarrett’s ‘temporary prisoner’ as part of a bargain to keep her safe. Meanwhile, Jarrett and those closest to him will begin to uncover the truth behind the set up, the fall and the on-going investigation that pits the CIA against everyone he knows and loves.

HelenKay Dimon has written an erotic storyline of mystery, romance and second chances that will keep the reader in suspense until the final page. The reader is pulled into a story where heartbreak and pain continue to follow two people who love one another but are caught in a web of lies, deceit and betrayal.

There are three interconnecting storylines in MERCY including the explosive and sensual relationship between Eli and Wade. Wade is Jarrett’s right hand man and best friend and, Eli is another CIA agent whose involvement in Jarrett’s take down eight months earlier has placed him on the same hit list as Becca and her former team.

HelenKay will capture your interest as the storyline builds. She weaves a tale using background information, the history between the characters and their emotional connection and, pulls everything together into a story of government betrayal, lies and uncovering the truth. Helen has done a fantastic job blending the past with the present so that the reader is pulled into a story that feels like part of an on going series but is only the first in what I hope will be many more. The characters are believable, captivating and seductive.

MERCY is a compelling story where eroticism is seductive; the romance is provocative; and the history between our leading couple is intense, intimate and passionate. If you are a fan of erotic romance storylines with a focus on suspense and a second chance at love then MERCY by HelenKay Dimon is the perfect read.
