Review:

Barb emailed, “Would you like to review the Sharon Ashwood sequel?” My immediate thought: Can you deliver it today?!  Possessed by an Immortal is a fast-paced story heavy with action and rich with details; a noteworthy tale that follows the world building originated in Possessed by a Warrior (read review here). While my beloved Sam is no longer the central character, Mark Winspear…aka Plague…aka Dr. Winspear…he’s still a vampire (swoon) and holds his own as the next featured Horseman. Looooving this series!

Bree is on the run again. Dumped somewhere near the Pacific Ocean, she’s fighting hard to find shelter for herself and four year old son, Jonathan. Mark controls his lethal impulses to kill the trespassers for encroaching on his secluded “man cave in the woods” the second he identifies (through vampire sense/scent) that her young son is seriously ill. Thrust back into the role of protector/provider, a role long abandoned after the brutal murder of his wife and children, Mark is apprehensive, yet resolved to get them to safety and determine what exactly the nature of Jonathan’s illness is.

She’s the ex-mistress of Crown Prince Kyle of Vidon. That kid of hers is rumored to be his illegitimate son. She’s unofficially on the Vidonese most-wanted list.

Ah…subterfuge, but you’ll have to sort it out in the book. 🙂  For the present and most pressing matters, Bree and Mark may be invariably tangled in the same mess. Bree witnessed a murder a year ago and her silence is imperative. The group pursuing Bree also happen to hold a centuries-long vendetta against Mark. Birds of a feather…Which meant the his-and-hers sets of gunmen were probably the same people.

The details of Bree’s involvement fit perfectly within the larger puzzle Sam and Chloe were constructing. The invaluable wedding dress that almost cost Chloe her life (and Sam’s sanity)? Bree was not only a member of the design atelier, but assistant to the designer who was murdered for it! The plot thickens with layers of motive and cross purposes. It’s safer to be away from the danger Mark now poses to Bree (never mind pesky vampire revelation)…but what of the risk to his heart? Mark already assumed a role as Jonathan’s doctor, but his interest in Bree is intensifying and begging to be explored. It’s no small feat to turn away now.

…he was beginning to realize the situation had risks—and he was the danger. He was too powerfully drawn to Bree. She wasn’t just any woman—he could resist most with no problem. But she had inspired something deeper than ordinary lust or hunger, and that was treacherous for them both. He should walk away – leave before he took her, body and blood.

Bree tries to keep Mark at arm’s length; she admonishes herself for allowing Mark to take on such a fatherly role, but mostly for reveling in a few stolen kisses. No wonder: When Ms. Ashwood creates a hero, swooning becomes an involuntary function. Unlike Sam, however, Mark wrestles his nature into compliance and refuses to succumb to his beast. I found Mark loads more stoic and colder (internal battle scars that render you hopeless tend to cause withdrawal), but have no fear. Ms. Ashwood builds up the romance steadily and assuredly. I must have mentioned loving this series, right?

Mark and Bree have choices: Find a way to trust each other, to discover how wonderful it is to love again or remain lonely and detached and lose what ground they’ve gained. It’s a no-brainer, but when you’re not accustomed to asking for help, it has to take someone monumentally special to surrender such defenses. Possessed by an Immortal offers suspense, revenge, mad science, a beautiful relationship between mother and son, and alpha-induced swoons. The particulars are starting to align and I intend to follow its path. Possessed by an Immortal is a compliment to the series. I’m ready for book 3!

Human or horror, they shared the same shadows now.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 22, 2014

CJ Tanner is the lead singer of an up and coming country band and standing over 6 feet tall with tight black jeans and his signature black cowboy hat, he draws attention every time he sets foot on stage. It was not until doing a radio station interview at Nashville, Tennessee’s top rated country music station WSIX when CJ meets Paden Thomas, the announcer who interviews him. During the course of the interview the sexual tension between them is palpable and just as Paden becomes saddened that the interview is coming to an end and she thinks she won’t see him again, CJ invites her to come watch his band play at Nashville’s popular downtown club called Cat’s Cradle. Almost immediately their relationship starts heating up but just as things start getting very sexy and passionate, a mysterious series of unexplainable and dangerous events start happening to both of them, leaving Paden suspicious that someone is trying to keep them apart. Feeling that their safety is in jeopardy, Paden tearfully has no other choice than to break up with CJ. Yet just as that mystery is finally solved and they are back in each others arms again, another unexpected evil turn of events puts Paden once more in harms way with potentially devastating consequences had CJ not shown up just in the nick of time to rescue her.

REVIEW

3.5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Country Love by Chelsea Dorsette is a short, fun, contemporary romance with bits of erotica/light BDSM scenes. It’s a great read for someone who wants to linger on a beach with a cocktail in hand, and get a little smutty/sweet fix. LOL Just over 100 pages, this story is packed full love, sex, stalker, freak man, danger, country singing and more of this and that.

Paden Thomas is a radio announcer who has landed her dream job. When her job enables her to interview CJ Tanner, lead singer to an up and coming country band Cat’s Cradle, little does she know her world is about to be turn upside down. Instant chemistry and sexual tension between our leading characters is apparent, and when CJ invites Paden to come out to one of their gigs they decide to act upon it. They are well matched inside and outside the bedroom and start to build something really special when a delusional female stalker believes that Paden needs to be pushed out of the picture … by any means necessary. Not only do we have a female stalker, one of Paden’s co-workers is close to snapping and Paden is his target. These two have many odds against them, but true love shall prevail!

Like I said above this was a quick read. I did find that there was way to much trying to be stuffed into so few pages, and the rush of that had the timing off a little. I love the build up between lead characters and this one fell short where that is concerned. This was also the reason why there was a touch of unbelievability . The sex scenes were amazing though, and it was easy to really like Paden and CJ. Loved the country music aspect of this book and the light flirtatious moments really made me smile!

HAPPY READING!

Rules of SurvivalAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BMM

Description:
If you want to survive, you have to follow the rules…

Mikayla Morgan is wanted for her mother’s murder. She’s been on the run for almost a year now, avoiding not only the police but the real killer. Tired of running and desperate to clear her name, she breaks one of the most sacred rules: never return to the scene of the crime.

Every bounty hunter on the Eastern Seaboard is after the Morgan girl—but Shaun Denver and his partner snagged her. She’s a piece of work, and Shaun can’t decide if he wants to kiss her or kill her. When things take a sharp turn south, Shaun does the only thing he can think of to keep her close—he handcuffs them together.

As the danger mounts and the killer closes in, the chemistry between them threatens to explode. Shaun and Kayla will need to break all the rules if they hope to get out of this alive.

Review:
Rules of Survival by Jus Accardo is a wonderful captivating thrilling story. I have read a few books by Accardo, and each of them are action packed, with a touch of humor throughout the book. Rules of Survival continues this trend.

Our heroine is Kayla (short for Mikayla), and right from the start I loved her, as she is strong & yet vulnerable. Kayla has been on the run for a year, since she found her mother murdered. Since she was the main suspect, Kayla ran and had been hiding and moving about frequently. She finally decides to go back home, to find some evidence to clear her name. That was her first mistake in a year.

Searching through her house for some clue that her mother may have left her, Kayla finds a letter, but before she can read it, she is caught by two bounty hunters that were patiently awaiting her return. It is here we meet our hero, Shaun, who is learning the trade of being a bounty hunter from Patrick., sort of a father figure for him. Kayla recognizes Patrick, as he was always hunting down her mother. But before they could get reacquainted, all hell breaks loose. There are others looking for Kayla, since she has a huge reward on her head. All three make a run for it, as gun shots are dangerously flying close by.

Along the way, they lose Patrick and Shaun uses a chain to tie Kayla to him, so she doesn’t escape. Of course, he loses the key along the way. What follows is a wonderful exciting adventure to find the truth to help save Kayla. At first Shaun doesn’t trust Kayla, nor does she trust him. At every turn, they are found, and it begins to look like they do not just want to bring her to the cops to collect the reward, but to kill her instead.

Shaun slowly begins to trust Kayla, and recognizes something is wrong. He works with her to try to find the evidence to prove her innocence. To tell too much more would be spoilers. All I will say is this is a pulse pounding story with non-stop action, with a lot of twists as they race to the climax. The closer they get to some answers, the danger escalates. During their forced time toghether, Kayla and Shaun find themselves becoming attracted to each other. With all the tension, Accardo uses her trademark humor to lighten things at times. She does a terrific job slowly bringing them together, in what becomes a sweet, and charming romance, which also sizzles. I loved Kayla and Shaun, and I am sure you will too.

Rules of Survival has everything you would want in a story; suspense, action, mystery, excitement, humor, and a romance that begins to sizzle over time. Rules of Survival is another winner for Jus Accardo.

••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: PICTURE PERFECT is the second instalment in Elisabeth Grace’s contemporary, adult Limelight erotic romance series. This is twenty one year old political socialite Skye Summers and billionaire entrepreneur Landon Steele’s storyline. Although it is the second in the series, it can be read as a stand alone.

The premise of the storyline follows Skye Summers as she embarks on a new job in the prestigious PR firm owned by Landon Steele-a man she met once on a previous occasion and a man she could not forget. Working for the beautiful and sexy Landon Steele is the perfect position for Skye but their attraction to one another is palpable and forbidden. When Skye’s ex boyfriend demands a do over, Skye will be caught between what she knows is right and what she believes she has to do to protect everyone that she loves.

The relationship between Skye and Landon is one of forbidden love-Landon is Skye’s boss but their attraction and need for one another overrides their sense of right and wrong, and they agree to keep their relationship a secret. As the storyline builds, so too does their love but Skye’s ex has a plan that will ensure that Skye walks away leaving a heartbroken Landon to pick up the pieces of his heart and a business deal that is about to go horribly wrong.

The world building pulls together the business of public relations in world of entertainment and politics; social media and its’ poisonous touch; and a friendship between friends that is the only constant in a young woman’s life that is about to be turned upside down.

The secondary characters include Skye’s ex boyfriend; bad boy actor Calder Fox-the hero of book three in the Limelight series- Collateral Damage; Skye’s BFF Ellie and Mason from book one in Rumor Has It; Skye’s loving family and friend Katie; and Landon’s broken family and the mother for whom he has worked to get to where he is today. Each of these characters imparts a small bit of history and present day color.

Elisabeth Grace writes a sensual and seductive story where the reader will root for the forbidden love of a workplace romance; where the boss falls hard for his assistant knowing that to risk his heart also means to risk his soul. The reader is pulled into a wonderfully, sexy storyline that is intimate and provocative; emotional and intense; passionate and erotic.

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: RUMOR HAS IT is the first instalment in Elisabeth Grace’s contemporary, new adult LIMELIGHT romance series. This is hip-hop star Mason Nash and media graduate Ellie Wagner’s story. Working a secretarial job at a local real estate office in Virginia, Ellie’s boss demands that she head over to the beach front mansion where the latest renter has misplaced the key. What Ellie never thought was to find herself falling through the bathroom window at the feet of a gorgeous man with beautiful eyes.

The focus of the storyline is on the building relationship between Ellie and Mason. Never having been a fan of hip-hop music, Ellie has no idea who or what is Mason Nash but a trip to Texas to visit Mason’s mother will show Ellie the truth. Along with Mason’s fame come the usual paparazzi, intrusive questions and a team of people who have no need for Ellie in Mason’s life.

The relationship between Ellie and Mason is one of instant attraction, romantic seduction and quick to develop. Mason is only in town for a month of R&R but as the end draws near Mason wants Ellie in his life for a much longer time. Behind the scenes there are people hoping to pull Mason and Ellie apart and with a few well placed clues, Ellie will find herself alone and wondering where it all went wrong.

The secondary characters are colorful and plenty including Ellie’s friend and co-worker Katie and her BFF Skye-Skye’s story will be told in the next instalment. We are introduced to Mason’s manager whose motives are questionable from the very start; and a few of the people who work behind the scenes in the music industry. Both Mason and Ellie’s dysfunctional families will play a role in their lives and we will see how their interaction has shaped the people they are today.

Elisabeth Grace pulls the reader into an emotional storyline-Ellie and Mason both had unstable childhoods –where betrayal and hurt were all a part of growing up; and where trust must be earned and never assumed. In this, trust is a major issue within the storyline where both Ellie and Mason must learn to let go of the past.

RUMOR HAS IT is a story where social media can either make or break a star; where the paparazzi and rumor mongers work hard to destroy what is left of one’s faith in humanity; and where love ever lasting may only be as real as the reality of TV and music.

•••••••••••••••••••••

Normally, when I write a review, I go through the plot without revealing too much to let you, the reader, know a little more about the book I’ve read and to let you know why I think you should read it. I’m going to veer off of that path a bit with this one and just tell you why you should read it.

I will be honest and tell you that when I received this book to read and review and read the blurb, I wasn’t thrilled. A lot of books, in my humble opinion, that deal with a main character surviving a life threatening event become, well, almost unreadable for me. But, I dove in and holy hell…… Am I glad I did. Tina DeSalvo has written a wonderful story with just the right amount of, for lack of a better word, everything. You will absolutely fall in love with EVERYONE in this story. Your heart will break for both Elli and Ben, but you will also find yourself cheering for them very early on. Elli doesn’t dwell on what has happened to her, rather she dwells on what she can do to help others to not have to go through what she has been through. That is the crux of her dilemma. Even though she’s entitled to half of the estate, and shows up with a plan, said plan goes down the tubes fast and she finds herself at a crossroads……….

Ben is hell bent on not liking Elli, and he stands his ground early on as he doesn’t want to lose his familial home that he and his son still call home. He just can’t fathom why someone would want to uproot all they’ve known, but when he finally starts figuring things out, with the help of his awesome, quirky and wonderful family, he has to decide what’s “right” for he and his son. And, yes, he decides that even though Elli is afraid to love anyone for fear of having to leave them if she gets sick again, he’s willing to risk his heart and put it all on the line.

Elli reminds everyone who reads it that life happens. The good, the bad and the ugly. Almost unbelievably, as I was reading this book, one of my best friends since 1988 was diagnosed with breast cancer, Stage 3 invasive lobular carcinoma. Talk about a shocker……….And for the first two days, I couldn’t read the book. I even thought about contacting everyone and telling them that I just couldn’t do it. But as I picked it up, I read one of the blog entries that Elli had written, and I thought who am I to be having a pity party? I don’t have this disease. My friend does. And information is power. So, I finished the book and am so glad I did. The insight in the few blog entries that we are privy to are insightful and touching, and yes, even funny at times. Please don’t get me wrong. This is in no way a sad story, but a very happy and uplifting one. Thrown together by chance, Ben and Elli sizzle together and you just can’t get enough of them. And, the fact that Ben and his family are Cajun has absolutely nothing to do with his hotness……really……not a bit……. J There is so much potential with the others in the Bienvenu family……All I can say is that I can’t wait to read about them as well. And, well done Tina DeSalvo, well done.

Interview

TRC: Hi Elli and welcome to The Reading Cafe. Congratulations on the release of ELLI. We would like to start with some background information.

Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Follow Tina: Goodreads / Website/ Facebook / Twitter

Tina DeSalvoTina: Hello, Sandy. Thank you for inviting me to be here on The Reading Café’. I am excited to chat with you about my book Elli, a Second Chance Novel. It is fun for me to now have my work in the fiction realm out-and- about. As far as background information on me, I can tell you I am now in what I feel is a second career, although my first career involved writing, too. I was a broadcast reporter and free-lance journalist for over 25 years. And, here is something I haven’t told anyone interviewing me, before I was a journalist, I had a summer job working in a hot, gritty, roofing-shingle factory. It was one of the jobs I held that helped pay my college tuition. At the factory, I drove a fork-lift, worked making tar-paper and shoveled out gravel silos. How‘s that for a body of work?

TRC: Who or what influenced your career in writing?

Tina: All the who’s and what’s (sounds like a Dr. Seuss book, LOL) that pass or pause in front of me every day of my life influence my writing and therefore inspire my career in writing. I draw inspiration from everything. Sounds really broad and vague, I know, but that is the truth. I am an observer of people and life. What I don’t see and absorb, I make up. It kind of mixes all together into a gumbo of characters, plots, conflicts, resolutions and a whole lot of laughter. I will add that there have been many amazing individuals who influenced my career in fiction writing because of how they encouraged, educated or mentored me with knowledge for the craft and for the business of writing. To name a few, the late Kate Duffy, Cherry Adair, Stella Barcelona and Booksellers Molly Bolden and Kay Levine.

TRC: When not writing, what do you do to relax?

Tina: When I can carve a bit of relaxing time, it usually is outside with a book in my hands either reading for my pleasure or reading to the sweet kiddies in my life. That relaxes me and gives me joy. I also love planting or harvesting bright colorful flowers or yummy vegetables in my garden. Of course, this must be done in the shade with the breeze blowing…I do live in the sultry south. On that point, I also LOVE to go to the mountains when I can. It is such a departure from the humid beautiful flatlands of Louisiana that it stirs my soul and relaxes me to be in the cool, crisp Rocky Mountain air…even when I am hiking with my good-looking hubby up a steep path and the air is so thin I am wishing I had an oxygen tank strapped to my back or more accurately his (let him carry the heavy thing!). Oh, and did I tell you I like the beach, too? I just like being outside. Here’s a fast fact: I actually wrote a large portion of Elli, a Second Chance Novel, outside in my screened patio with the ceiling fan whirring overhead.

Breast cancer ribbonTRC: Let’s talk about Breast Cancer Awareness. All proceeds from ELLI will be donated to Women in the Fight Against Breast Cancer. How close does Breast Cancer Affect your family? What was behind your decision to donate the proceeds of ELLI to this fight?

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble

Tina: Sandy, breast cancer definitely affects my family very closely. I had Stage 3 breast cancer. I had two paternal aunts who had breast cancer, too. I know firsthand how difficult it is to fight the fight when you have insurance, when you have family and friends who are helping you, when you have the where-with-all to be your own advocate, when you have a great medical team assembled. Not everyone who fights breast cancer has this. I saw this while I was in the chemo infusion lab getting treatment and learned on several occasions that there were people who didn’t receive their treatment because the cancer prevented them from working and they couldn’t afford to put gas in their cars or pay for cab rides to the cancer center.

I heard stories of how women were only allocated one prosthetic breast a year even when there were changes in their bodies causing it to fit poorly. There are many unmet needs that can affect a person’s quality of life and possible outcome. It’s hard enough to be in the fight of your life without having the right armor and weapons for battle. I wanted to do something to help improve a woman’s emotional and physical well-being while they fought. I want women fighting on this very day to know they are not alone in the battle. The money raised from the sale of Elli, a Second Chance Novel will help. It is a start. We are trying to help women find their SECOND CHANCE.

TRC: Would you please tell us something of the premise of ELLI?

ElliTina: Elli travels to Louisiana to sell the half ownership of a plantation she has inherited in order to save the foundation she started after a ruinous fundraiser. The problem is the twisted inheritance for the plantation requires that she convince Ben Bienvenu, the man who inherited the other half, to sell his share of Sugar Mill Plantation, too. That may be a near impossible task since the plantation has been in his family for over 200 years. Mischievous dogs, a nosey Bienvenu family, a distracting Mardi Gras season and a man who thinks he is protecting his son by standing his ground against her. . . Elli must conquer all of this for hope, love and a second chance. She is a breast cancer survivor and knows how to fight to win.

TRC: Are any of the characters or the premise based in reality or a combination of reality and fiction?

Tina: ELLI is a story of fiction that draws on the Cajun culture, people and setting that I know so well. The characters are only real in my mind where I created them, but they reflect bits of so many wonderful people whom I’ve encountered in my life. The premise is based in reality in two ways. First is that Elli is a breast cancer survivor and I have drawn her emotions from my emotions and experiences as well as from other survivors who live in that wonderful, difficult, joyful and fearful time after the cancer treatment ends and a renewed life begins. Secondly, some of the experiences Elli writes about in her blogs are based in whole or in part by what happened to me or others I know while going through treatment.

TRC: You grew up in and around NOLA. How much influence has the French Quarter and Cajun country of New Orleans had in your writing?

Tina: A lot. I love the people and culture of “the City that Care Forgot” and of Cajun country. There are similarities between the two areas, but there are a lot of differences, too. I hope I captured the nuances and wrote of it in a fresh, real way for readers to enjoy.

TRC: Is this a standalone storyline or a part of a series? If it is a part of a series, how many books do you have planned?

Tina: Yes, it is a standalone but we will see many of the same characters return in two more books of the Second Chance Novel Series.

TRC: What challenges or difficulties (research, logistics, background) did you encounter writing this particular story?

Tina: The challenges I faced writing this story is that I wanted to remain true to sharing a Breast Cancer survivor’s emotional journey once the cancer treatment ends but I didn’t want to make this a story about “cancer”. The heart of this story is that it is a love story. I wanted to stay true to that. I also wanted to be true to my writer’s voice which is light and somewhat humorous. I know that seems like an unlikely combination. In the end, I think I was able to craft the character-driven story I envisioned while staying true to my voice as I share Elli’s fears and hopes, too. I also weaved in Ben’s conflicts, his story, which I hope help to create a good book. Geez, I hope ya’ll like it. So far, the reviews and feedback have been really good.

TRC: What are your thoughts on writing a series and ending an installment with a major cliff hanger?

Tina: I think that is one fun way to tell a story. As a reader, I would prefer having the next book in that series in my hand ready to start as soon as I close the back cover to the one before it. LOL. That said, it isn’t the type of book I will write, although, I may have a secondary story line unfinished in one and pick it up in the next book. It won’t be with the main characters, though. Hmm? That gives me an idea for a secondary thread in Jewel and Beau’s story that I’m writing….(oh, did I just write a cliffhanger? LOL)

TRC: When writing a storyline, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

Tina: Oh, without a second thought, I can tell you with full certainty that the characters direct, torture, tease and nag me to create the storyline. ☺

TRC: The mark of a good writer is to pull the reader into the storyline so that they experience the emotions along with the characters. What do you believe a writer must do to make this happen? Where do you believe writers fail in this endeavor?

Tina: I think you have to be sympathetic or empathetic or at least care about the characters a little bit to be able to experience their emotions. I think if you have no understanding of the characters or you can’t relate to them in any way, you won’t care about them. When an author makes me care about a character, either in a good or bad way, I am ALL IN the story.

TRC: Writers’ block is a very real phenomenon. How do you handle the pressures and anxiety of writer’s block?

Tina: I’m afraid to utter those words aloud or even type them for it might jinx me…I think, the only way for me to handle the anxiety is to sit down and start writing. If the writing is bad, oh well. Bad sentences can be fixed. Nothing can be done with NO sentences.

TRC: Many authors bounce ideas and information with other authors or friends and family. With whom do you bounce ideas?

Tina: That’s easy for me to answer. My husband, Corey. My sons, Hal and Nicholas. My writer buddies, Stella Barcelona, Cherry Adair, Deborah Leblanc and Eileen Dryer (and whomever is meeting with us when we get together)

TRC: What three things would you like to accomplish in the next five years?

Tina:
1. Stay healthy.
2. Spend as much time as I can with family and friends.
3. Write good books people want to read.

TRC: What is something that few, if any people, know about you?

Tina: I’m a southern Louisiana gal who lives in the best place on earth for seafood and I’m allergic to shellfish. I wasn’t always allergic to it, so I do know of the sweet, tender taste of shrimp, crab and crawfish. Sigh. I miss eating it, especially when we all gather for a seafood boil.

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Tina: Jewel, a Second Chance Novel. It‘s Jewel and Beau’s story. We met Beau in ELLI. He is Ben’s cousin and attorney. He is a well-dressed charmer. Beau has a strong sense to protect the Bienvenu family because they had rescued him and his brother from a life of abuse and neglect when they were young boys. So, when antiques’ expert, Jewell Doucet, arrives at Sugar Mill Plantation with her grandmother, Mignon, asking questions that may involve an old, secret Bienvenu mystery, he becomes very suspicious and defensive. He doesn’t know that Jewel is there to investigate a story her grandmother has just recently told her. She wants to find out if her grandmother’s bizarre claim of having a sister is true. If it is, she wants to find the sister for her before her grandmother’s memory is stolen by dementia, forever. Oh, besides, Beau not liking the Doucet ladies coming to Sugar Mill, Tante Izzy isn’t happy about it either. The Bienvenu matriarch feels a sort-of rivalry with this woman interfering with her family.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Tina: Yes, I want to thank you for the opportunity to be here. This has been fun. Your questions were really great! I especially want to thank you for allowing me to share where the proceeds from Elli, a Second Chance Novel, will be donated. It is a cause that means a lot of me, more importantly it means a lot to women fighting breast cancer. I also want to invite everyone to visit my website for more resources on Breast Cancer. The Wedding Dare Series .5 to 4 from Entangled Brazen-a review

The Wedding Dare Series .5 to 4 from Entangled Brazen -a review

Wedding Dare Series

Entangled Brazen’s WEDDING DARE series is the culmination of five authors and five storylines that overlap and run concurrently with one another. Each story involves the building of a relationship, a broken heart and the love affair of a happily ever after. No one ever said the road to happiness was easy, but one couple will bring together eight people and by week’s end, each will have found the one person that will hold their heart and call to their soul.

At the end of each instalment, the author will offer up an epilogue-a quick look into the future from four months to one year. The reader will get a glimpse at what is in store for each of our couples and BEST MAN WITH BENEFITS will bring all five couples back together for another celebration-of a different kind.

Each of the storylines is a blend of romance and erotic sex; there is the allure of the first kiss, the butterflies in the stomach and the anticipation of waking up in the arms of someone new. The Wedding Dare series focuses on ten people whose lives will collide at the wedding of their best friends-eight people who are looking for the someone special to share the rest of their lives-and one couple who are about to walk down the aisle and say their ‘I do’s’.

Click HERE for our review of DARE TO RESIST by Laura Kaye-the book that started it all.

Let’s begin and forgive me but it is a long post !!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 9, 2014

She’s the one that got away. He’s the one she can’t forget.

Photojournalist Christine Forsythe is ready to tackle her naughty little to-do list, and who better to tap for the job than a hot groomsman? But when she crashes into her best friend’s older brother, Christine realizes her list needs updating. And fast. Tyler Dresco took her virginity during the best night of her life, then bolted. Now that they’re trapped together at a destination wedding, she’s going to get her revenge.

Tyler has never forgiven himself for how completely he lost control all those years ago. Being in Christine’s arms had felt right…until he realized what he’d taken from her in the hallway of a cheap motel. And oh, how she’s making him pay for it now. The insatiable heat between them has only grown stronger, but every time things heat up, Christine walks away.

With every encounter, things go a little bit further until Christine’s caught in her own trap of seduction. And before their time’s up, Tyler’s not the only one wanting more…

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: FALLING FOR THE GROOMSMAN is the second instalment in Entangled Brazen’s contemporary, erotic romance Wedding Dare series. There are a total of five storylines including Laura Kaye’s introductory novella Dare to Resist that sets up the wedding where 4 bridesmaids dare one another to find lust –or love- at the wedding between their friends. Each consecutive instalment will be written by a different author but all five storylines will be centered around Kady Dresco and Colton Brooks’s wedding. This is photojournalist Christine Forsythe and the bride’s brother Dr. Tyler Dresco’s story.

The premise is a second chance at love storyline. Christine lost her virginity to her best friend’s brothers eight years earlier and has never forgotten the abject humiliation when he walked away without a second glance. Now that they have reconnected at the wedding, Christine hopes for revenge and sets into motion a plan to humiliate Tyler they way he had done to her. But her plans go all to h*ll when she realizes that what she feels for Tyler isn’t hatred but love.

The reader is pulled into a storyline where emotions and anxiety run deep and strong. Christine’s need for revenge drives a good portion of the storyline but when she realizes that she has gone too far, Tyler is the one to walk away –again-but this time it may be for good.

We are introduced to the players in the Wedding Dare series-the friends and family of the bride and groom. Each one will have a story to tell and FALLING FOR THE GROOMSMAN is the starting point for each couple although this particular storyline will fast forward several months for Tyler and Christine.

Baiting the Maid of HonorBAITING THE MAID OF HONOR
(Wedding Dare #2)
by Tessa Bailey

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO /

About the book: Release Date June 9, 2014

He’ll own her from the very first touch.

Julie Piper and Reed Lawson have nothing in common. She’s a people-pleasing sorority girl hiding behind her perfect mask. He’s a take-no-prisoners SWAT commander who isolates himself from the world. But when they’re forced together at their friends’ posh destination wedding, one thing is clear—Reed wants Julie more than he wants his next breath. Which is why he’s not about to stand by when she’s dared to seduce another man.

Julie wants neat, tidy sex, so she could get back to what she does best—making everybody else happy. She never expected to slip into a dark bedroom and have her mind blown by rough, demanding hands, and a sinfully filthy mouth—neither of which belong to the best man. One night should have been all Reed needed to get the blond temptress out of his system, but when one taste is nowhere near enough, he’ll be forced confront the effects of his hellish past. One that may push Julie away forever…just when he realizes he can’t live without her

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: BAITING THE MAID OF HONOR is the third instalment in Entangled Brazen’s contemporary, erotic romance Wedding Dare series. This is Julie Piper (current wedding planner) and SWAT commander Reed Lawson’s storyline. Julie is Kady’s Maid of Honor and Reed is one of Colton’s best friends. BAITING THE MAID OF HONOR (as with all four of the Wedding Dare storylines) will run parallel to one another and cross over at different times.

The focus of this particular instalment finds Julie Piper as the manic wedding planner for her best friend’s nuptials. From a destination wedding to a week spent in Colorado so the wedding party will get to know one another, Julie has every detail planned down to the last moment-from a scavenger hunt to ballroom dancing lessons and more. What she didn’t plan was falling for the rough, tough and demanding Reed Lawson.

Julie comes from a well to do family who expect nothing less than perfection from their only surviving daughter, and Reed comes from a background rife with abuse, neglect and addiction. These two opposites attract when Reed can’t resist the challenge that is Julie Piper. When Julie sets her sights on Logan-the pretty boy best man, Reed waits knowing that Julie will be his-at the end of the night.

Tessa Bailey pulls the reader into another emotional storyline where our couple will get their happily ever after but not before words are exchanged and the past is revealed. Reed isn’t a man who does hearts and flowers, in fact, he is a man who keeps to himself but when he tells Julie what he thinks about the direction of her life, Julie believes that Reed has it all wrong. Anxiety and trepidation follow our couple wherever they go.

The eclectic mix of secondary characters includes the members of the wedding party and we will see each get his and her happily ever after. The world building continues on the road to Kady and Colton’s wedding celebration but we do not get the privilege of attending the wedding vows. Reed and Julie’s storyline will fast forward four months after the wedding, where we will get a glimpse at what is in store for their future.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 9, 2014

She has a plan. He’s about to change it.

Regan Wakefield is a headhunter in both name and personality: driven, motivated, and unafraid to pursue what—and who—she wants. Naturally, she’s thrilled when her friend’s wedding offers her an opportunity to score Logan McCade, the practically perfect best man. Unfortunately, groomsman Brock McNeil keeps getting in her way, riling her up in the most delicious of ways. But Brock’s smooth southern charm isn’t part of the plan…so how exactly did they end up having searing-hot sex?

Regan may pretend the erotic electricity sparking between them is merely a distraction, but Brock knows better. She refuses to see beyond the devil-may-care façade he presents to the world, while he sees straight through hers. Changing her mind—and getting under her skin—is a challenge he can’t resist. And when he wins, Brock will do whatever it takes to convince Regan that the best man for her is him.

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SEDUCING THE BRIDEMAID is the fourth instalment in Entangled Brazen’s contemporary, erotic romance Wedding Dare series. This is headhunter Regan Wakefield and groomsman Brock McNeil’s story. Regan has her eyes set on best man Logan McCade-the personification of success; a man who owns his own sporting good company but a man who has eyes for someone else. SEDUCING THE BRIDESMAID, as with all four of the Wedding Dare storylines, will run parallel to one another and cross over at different times.

The focus of this particular instalment finds Regan eyeing the prize-best man Logan McCade. As with all of the novellas, our bridal party has their week outlined with a scavenger hunt, ballroom dancing and getting to know one another. As Regan puts a plan into motion to seduce the best man she will come face to face with Brock McNeil-a man she has judged not worthy of her time or talent. She believes he is a southern redneck, born into money, with no aspirations of success. To scratch the proverbial sex itch, she agrees to Brock’s offer of a one-time fling only to find that neither one can get the other out of their minds. As Brock continues to pursue Regan, Regan pushes away at every opportunity –still hoping to catch Logan McCade before the end of the week.

Regan is a difficult character to like. She is judgmental, ascerbic, condescending, mouthy and an all around b*tch-there is no other word to describe the woman to whom Brock has lost his heart. Brock continues to pursue Regan at every opportunity only to be rebuffed and belittled with each attempt. No man on the planet would take the emotional and verbal abuse but this is, after all, a fictional storyline where each couple will get their happily ever after but one that set my teeth on edge with Regan’s attitude and clearly inflated ego. When Regan uncovers the truth about Brock’s life and his past, she is quick with an apology but perhaps it is too little, too late. Brock has discovered her plan to seduce Logan and will walk away for the final time.

The secondary characters include all of the bridal party and we will get a glimpse as each couple begins to fall in love with one another. SEDUCING THE BRIDESMAID gives the reader a glimpse into the wedding ceremony and fast forwards the storyline approximately four months in Regan and Brock’s epilogue.

Katee Robert writes with passion and emotion. Her heroes are alpha yet vulnerable to the pain of rejection and heartbreak. It is her heroine in this particular storyline that was not worthy of redemption (in my opinion). Sometimes people are not capable of change but in this romantic storyline, our heroine knew she had made a huge mistake and groveling should have been only the beginning.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 9, 2014

How far can one favor go…

Logan McCade arrives at his best friend’s wedding overworked and in desperate need of a vacation, only to discover his best man duties have been…expanded. He must coax Colton’s sister out of her shell, or risk her hiding in her room all week. Logan figures he can handle one introverted bridesmaid, but he’s not expecting how much he enjoys “handling” Sophie…or how much she enjoys being handled.

Socializing has never been web designer Sophie Brooks’s strong suit, but she’s determined to shed her wallflower image and embrace the “New Sophie”—a feat made easier with the supremely sexy Logan McCade tempting her to explore all her forbidden fantasies. If she’s not careful, she just might fall for the best man.

Sophie’s sweet, sexy, and delectably awkward demeanor brings much-needed calm to Logan’s hectic life. With the nuptials only days away, Logan is forced to face the possibility that his favor to a friend might have become something else entirely…and that he’s not willing to let Sophie go. Ever.

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: BEST MAN WITH BENEFITS is the fifth and final instalment in Entangled Brazen’s contemporary, erotic romance Wedding Dare series and runs parallel to the previous three Wedding Dare novels. This is web designer and Colton’s little sister Sophie Brooks and sporting goods entrepreneur and best man Logan McCade’s storyline.

Colton has asked his best man Logan McCade to make sure his little sister has a good time. Colton knows that without a little push, Sophie would rather hide away in her room until the wedding ceremony. To Logan’s surprise, Sophie is no longer the shy and awkward teenager he to whom he was introduced years before but a beautiful, petite, voluptuous woman whose self esteem has been shattered by the taunts of her past. Logan is instantly attracted to Sophie but knows she is off limits. What ensues is a relationship built on needs and wants, and Logan wants Sophie for his very own.

Samanthe Beck is in the fortunate position to wrap up the Wedding Dare series. As with each previous instalments Logan and Sophie will find their happily ever after but not before mistaken beliefs and the bridesmaids dare goes a little too far. The reader is pulled into an emotional storyline where the pain of growing up the ugly duckling is a vivid reminder every time one looks into the mirror. And it will take the love and determination of a man with the looks of a model to show Sophie she is more beautiful than she could have ever imagined.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 5, 2014

John “Johnnie” Donovan is determined to make his relationship work with Kendall Miller, the attorney he met during his cousin’s birthday party. Before he can move on with his future, however, he still has loose ends to tie up from the past in the person of a rival MC’s president who is also Kendall’s ex-boyfriend. As Johnnie tries to balance his club life and personal life, another tragedy forces him to make a choice between the two. Will Johnnie be able to live with the choices he makes?

Kendall Miller is trying to pick up the pieces of her life in the wake of her ex-boyfriend’s assault. She demands his complete attention and isn’t willing to share her man with all the baggage of the MC. Then, catastrophe strikes and Kendall’s life is once again altered. Can she and Johnnie have a future together or has their love been doomed from the beginning?

•••••••••••••••••••••••

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

If you’ve read my first combined review of the Death Dweller series, then you already know that this is a series NOT for the easily offended. For those that haven’t, I have to in good conscience state this straight up. This series is easily the most UN-PG series I have come across. There is strong descriptive violence, language, harsh situations, rape and heart ache. BUT, if you can handle all that .. there is an amazing group of bikers that you will fall in love with despite their rough edges, and old ladies that will make you laugh and tick you off all at the same time. This series take you THERE .. you know that icky but yummy place .. YA THAT!

We left smexy Johnnie “John Boy” Donovan one hot mess and happily for now with his recently proclaimed old lady Kendall Miller in the previous novel. Misdeeds by Kathryn Kelly is a continuation of their story and how they are trying to make it work. Revenge against Kendall’s ex “enemy club” boyfriend is still a priority for Johnnie and the Death Dwellers and our boys are going full on with mass destruction. In the midst of all that, Johnnie is trying to balance his relationship with Kendall (shining at moments and bombing at others), participate in club business, deal with family revelations and heal from a gunshot injury. In the meantime, Kendall is stirring the pot with Megan (the prez old lady), being selfish, manipulative .. of the list goes on! It’s a wonder that a man like Johnnie can stick with her. Revenge is served up indeed, and collateral damage is received, but I think we will see Johnnie and Kendall make it through. They grew together and separately in this book, leaving me hopeful for their future.

So much more happens here but I really wanted to focus the remainder of this review on Kathryn Kelly’s talent to make me LOVE HATE (yup you read that right) a heroine. Honestly, I really dislike Kendall. I think she is selfish, mean spirited and very immature. The things she said and did in this book made my blood boil .. but here is the thing… Kathryn Kelly also gave me moments of wanting to root for her and wishing she’d redeem herself. At times I felt like a ping pong ball, hating, liking, loving … UH I have never felt this strongly about ANY heroine I have ever read. She is a whole bag of damaged and I sympathized with her, but man I actually screamed at my ereader for her to smarten the you know what up. LOL

As an emotional reader, this series has hit my every button. I adore these bad ass bikers and their messed up seriously deviant and degenerate ways. We have been set up nicely for further stories and I am so excited for my next encounter with them! Again, an extremely raw read with lots to offend a reader, but man I love the shock and offensive experience because I get to experience something so intense and pure … as Christopher “Outlaw” would say. “It ain’t nothing but a thing!”

HAPPY READING! 🙂

TRC: Hi Kathryn and welcome to The Reading Café. Congratulations of the success of your Death Dwellers MC series.

Kathryn: Thank you. It’s been quite a ride!

TRC: We would like to start with some background information. Please tell us something about yourself?

Follow Kathryn Kelly: Goodreads / Blog / Facebook / Twitter

Kathryn: I’m a born and bred New Orleans girl and a diehard Saints fan. Most of my family no longer lives in New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina. I was pretty aimless while I was in college because I really didn’t know what I wanted to do when I was supposed to focus on acquiring the tools for a “real” job. I say I like to have firm plans but I usually enjoy myself more with spur of the moment activities. I will taste almost any type of food at least once, except squid ink soup, puffer fish or any type of insects. I’ve thought about going to one of the gourmet insect tastings where there’s stuff like sauteed grubs, fried crickets, etc., but I haven’t been able to convince myself I’ll be able to eat anything, so that’ll be $150 wasted. I’m a very private person, so I keep my personal life separate. I love the French Quarter, Mardi Gras, and Saints games.

TRC: Who or what influenced your career in writing?

Kathryn: My mother has been the biggest influence on my writing career by always encouraging me to go after my dreams no matter how big or how small.

TRC: When not writing, what do you do to relax?

Kathryn: I read and I also watch the ID channel.

TRC: MISDEEDS is the fourth instalment and June 2014 release in your contemporary erotic motorcycle club series. Would you please tell us something about the premise?

Kathryn: Misdeeds continues the story of John “Johnnie” Donovan and Kendall Miller as they attempt to make a go of a relationship that didn’t start off on the best terms. Kendall is trying to cope with situations in every aspect of her life. The deaths of her mother and her sister. Her assault and self-image issues. The lost pocket of time she had while she was drugged and held prisoner. The loss of her career, which she felt was the only good thing about herself and she’d worked hard to achieve. Her impending motherhood and her feelings for Johnnie who seems so detached from her most of the time. After going through so much—and being rejected by her mother most of her life—she doesn’t trust anyone’s overtures of kindness or friendship. Because of this toxic combination, she makes decisions that will lead to some dire consequences.
Meanwhile, Johnnie is dealing with a lot himself and finds himself pitted against Christopher because Kendall and Megan can’t get along.

TRC: Like most MC series, your storylines are graphically and sexually violent. What do you say to the reader of romance who is reticent or reluctant to read your series?

Kathryn: That’s a tough one to answer because it depends on the reason(s) for their reticence. There’s no denying the violence in my books, but, at the core is the romance between the hero and heroine. They are gritty, raw, and, at times, dark, but there’s also an underlying message within each book.

TRC: MISBEHAVIOR is your September 2014 release. Will you please tell us something about the premise?

Kathryn: Misbehavior is Zoann and Val’s story and it starts two months after Misdeeds ended. The two of them have a lot to overcome, especially Zoann’s mistrust and Val isn’t the most patient or the most communicative one of the brothers. He sees how she treats everyone except bikers and he wants that from her, too. He’s going to realize how helpless and powerless she felt during her attack and will have to allow her some control in the relationship, which won’t be easy for a man like him. She trusted him enough once before to try for a relationship. Now, the stakes are higher because Val knows this is a make or break time for them. Will he be able to give her the lead in their relationship? Will she trust him just once more or will she walk away from him for good? Then, there’s the whole Christopher angle and the fact she feels he turned his back on her when she needed him most.

TRC: How many books do you have planned for the series?

Kathryn: Before I answer that, I have to say when I released Misled, I hadn’t planned on writing anymore books about the MC. Christopher wouldn’t be denied so I had to write him and once I finished his story, I was really sad to write THE END. It was fun and exhilarating to know I could write an entire novel all by myself. Before I hit publish, though…I changed my mind several times. When I convinced myself to just do it that last time, I knew it was a ‘now or never’ moment. I’d been requesting reviews for two weeks, but when it came time to actually publish it, I was almost trembling. I wanted someone to see in Christopher what Meggie and I saw in him. When I began receiving requests to continue the series, it was such an easy decision because I was already so vested in the characters.

Now, in response to the original question, I have eight definite releases planned: Misled (#1), Misappropriate (#1.5), Misunderstood (#2), Misdeeds (#2.5), Misbehavior (#3), Misguided (#4), Misconduct (#5) and Misfit, which will be another novella either between books 3 and 4 or 4 and 5. Mistrust is questionable, since it would be about Dinah, and I’m not sure where her character is going.

Click HERE for our reviews of Misled, Misappropriate and Misunderstood

TRC: Have you considered a spinoff concentrating on a rival MC club?

Kathryn: I’ve thought about doing a spinoff with the American Scorpions MC, which was Cee Cee’s club. However, I’m also getting ideas for a series about Ophelia’s band members. Ophelia is Christopher’s sister who will end up in a relationship with Stretch and Cash. So we’ll see.

TRC: Are any of the characters or the premise based in reality or a combination of reality and fiction?

Kathryn: The characters are a combination of reality and fiction.

TRC: What challenges or difficulties (research, logistics, background) did you encounter writing this particular series?

Kathryn: I do most of my research on the MC lifestyle via non-fiction articles, books, and documentaries. We all have something we respond to, so the emotions I (try) to write in the books come easier than the situations concerning the MC brothers. I’m always concerned about how much of what I write will readers believe? Is Christopher bold enough to stake out someone’s house in broad daylight holding an assault weapon? Well, yes, and I’m sure readers familiar with the series know that? Will they be able to suspend disbelief about actually reading about him doing it? Suppose readers are familiar with the story of a real MC member who did something similar? Did I portray the scene accurately (but still fictitiously, if that makes sense) to those people who know about the real-life event and did I write it with believability for the readers who aren’t aware. I have to add the similarities between real life and my characters are purely coincidental because I research for accuracy with club rules (and make some up of my own), and the biker lifestyle.

TRC: What are your thoughts on writing a series and ending an instalment with a major cliff hanger?

Kathryn: I enjoy reading a series because the characters become like family to me. If there’s a long time between releases, I dislike books with cliffhangers. It is being used too often nowadays and it becomes frustrating to have to wait for answers to major plot lines in book after book. It’s one thing to have the option of reading previous books in a series to get all the backstory. It’s another thing to HAVE to read upcoming books to get to the HEA (or HFN sometimes) in a couple’s story.

Misunderstood ends on a cliffhanger. It completely drained me and I was actually falling into a depression researching human trafficking and suicide and the effects of drugs and alcohol on a developing fetus. I got to a point where I had to stop. See, I suffer with major depression and insomnia and the story just kicked my butt really good. I’d pushed the deadline back because I saw I needed more time to tie up all the loose ends. But the day I wrote the last chapter to Misunderstood, I didn’t realize Spoon hadn’t been taken care of. Yes, I said it. My major cliffhanger was completely unintended. A few days after Misunderstood came out someone called me and told me about a review pointing out a warning to readers that it ended on a cliffhanger. I had to go back and reread the last scene and I was like…well, I can’t put what I said but it was laced with epitaphs. I’d already discussed the possibility of Misdeeds because of the HFN Misdeeds ended on and how unhappy it made readers. As a reader, I know how it feels to be unhappy and disappointed with an ending and completely annoyed with a cliffhanger. I decided to rectify it, sooner rather than later. Now, I have to write like mad to catch up to where I want to be with Misbehavior.

TRC: When writing a storyline, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

Kathryn: The characters definitely direct the writing. I’ll give you Kendall as an example. Every time I attempted to steer her in a way I thought she should go, her character veered in another direction and reminded me the setbacks she suffered within Misunderstood and Misdeeds happened in a very short period of time. She, as the character, wasn’t ready to go in the direction I thought she should. I rewrote several scenes in the book and directed her character the way I thought she needed to go. The scenes never worked out. Kendall wasn’t an easy character to deal with and she was even harder to write.

TRC: The mark of a good writer is to pull the reader into the storyline so that they experience the emotions along with the characters. What do you believe a writer must do to make this happen? Where do you believe writer’s fail in this endeavor?

Kathryn: I think writers must be willing to take risks with their characters and their storylines. Don’t water your writing down to have sympathetic characters because you think it’s the right thing to do. Characters should make readers either sympathize with them, understand them even if their actions and decisions aren’t the best, or detest them, plain and simple. Writers fail in pulling readers into the storyline along with their characters by not knowing their characters and telling us what’s going rather than showing us. A well-rounded character draws readers in because motivations are understood in every situation he or she may be in. If we don’t make a reader feel, see, hear, taste and experience a character’s world, then we’ve failed at our job.

TRC: Writer’s Block is a very real phenomenon. How do you handle the pressures and anxiety of writer’s block?

Kathryn: Writer’s Block is indeed a very real phenomenon and hits me when I’m under the most pressure. I try to keep writing. Sometimes, your best writing comes on your worst days. I didn’t have much writer’s block with Misled, but every book since, I’ve experienced it. It’s frustrating and it’s frightening. My uppermost thought is suppose ideas never return. Was this book just a one-time thing? Well, now (knock on wood), four times. It isn’t a good feeling and I haven’t gotten used to it. I’ve learned to step back for a day or two and, then, force myself back to it. Even if I have to throw away everything I write at the end of the door.

TRC: Many authors bounce ideas and information with other authors or friends and family. With whom do you bounce ideas?

Kathryn: Crystal Cuffley, who edits my books and designs the covers, my mother, a couple of beta reads, one of the writers I’m friends with, and a couple friends. Most of the time, I bounce the ideas around after I’ve already started or completed the first draft, the exception being Misdeeds. I bounced ideas around beforehand. The final copy is nothing near to any of the discussions.

TRC: What three things would you like to accomplish in the next five years?

Kathryn: In writing: writing a big historical, hitting a bestseller list at least once, and connecting with more readers

Personally: losing about 30 more pounds and getting a clean bill of health. I can’t think of anything else other than saving up for another vehicle before the one I have leaves me stranded.

TRC: What is something that few, if any people, know about you?

Kathryn: I don’t think many people know I have children, but I’m paranoid so I keep them off the radar most of the time.

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Kathryn: I’m currently working on Val’s and Zoann’s story, Misbehavior.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Kathryn: Every reader is important to me. I definitely want to pull in new readers, but I don’t want to ignore the readers I already have. No writer will ever satisfy every reader every time. Unintentional cliffhangers are within my power to rectify, though.

Deeper Than Need by Shiloh Walker – a Review

Deeper Than Need by Shiloh Walker – a Review

Deeper Than NeedAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / The Book Depository

Description:
Trinity Ewing—she’s new in Madison, and her one goal is to put her old life behind her. She’s made mistakes. A lot of them. She’s done everything short of selling herself to stay alive and provide for her son. Now she’s just looking for a place to put down roots and call home. The old ramshackle house on the banks of the Ohio River seem to be the perfect place. It needs work—a lot of it.

A former minister, Noah Benningfield now works as a carpenter. He hasn’t entirely lost his faith, but he has lost himself. Which is exactly how he likes it. He doesn’t want to find himself, because then he’d have to look at the many ways he failed. Working with his hands is easier. Or so he thinks. He hasn’t ever had a job where he uncovers a skeleton, though. Not until now.

He can’t help but wonder…are these the remains of Lana, the girl he’d loved in high school? Losing her had all but destroyed his life back then, a life he has only now pieced together. Even as he deals with the turmoil of that, there’s a new turmoil, one caused by Trinity—she’s everything he won’t let himself have, and everything he realizes he wants.

Life becomes even more complicated when a ghost from the past blows back into town… Bethany Sutter—one of the last people to see Lana alive all those years ago

Review:
Deeper Than Need is the 1st full length book in Shiloh Walker’s Secrets & Shadows series. The series started with three novellas, which I did not know about, but it did not matter when reading this book, as it read very well without reading the others. Though after reading this book, I am interested in reading the novellas.

The story takes place in a small town, where our heroine, Trinity Ewing having recently arrived in town with her young son, has purchased a house, which is in need of much repair. The house also unknown to Trinity has a tragic history, which will drive this story.

Noah Benningfield is our hero, a former preacher, who now has his own contracting business. Noah is fixing up Trinity’s house, and both of them feel the immediate sparks between them. But neither is able or willing to act on those feelings. Trinity has run away from her past, with her ex-husband, and has no desire to become involved with any man. Noah spent 20 years trying to get over the tragedy of a lost love when he was a teenager, which drove him to become an alchoholic. He has since recovered and aside from his business, he also helps with phone support for teenagers, with problems.

Though both have major obstacles, they are drawn together with the restoration of the house, and the mystery that begins to surface when a body is found in the cellar. Shiloh Walker does a wonderful job of building this romance, even with each having terrible demons of the past. You can feel the heat between them, and Walker does not rush this. One of my pet peeves is when other stories have the couple fall in love on page 2, not giving any time to a romance. Not so here. This was done perfectly. I loved watching them fight their feelings; watching them become closer, trying to help each other; and loved the interaction with Noah, who was adorable. By the time we got ¾ through the book, I was anxiously rooting for them to act on those feelings NOW. When they finally succumbed, it was well worth the wait, as everything sizzled around them. Very well done.

The mystery was the main focus of the story, with the entire town involved to discover the truth about what happened 20 years ago. There were quite a few twists and turns, keeping us on our toes. If you didn’t pay close attention you would miss something important. I was at times a bit confused at what was happening, as Walker kept us guessing throughout. We do have a resolution though it did come fast and furious at the end. The next book in this series may give us more information, as one of the main characters is the hero in it. Deeper Than Need by Shiloh Walker was an excellent romance suspense story, with a great couple. I recommend that you read this book.
