Interview with Cover Model and Actor Joseph Cannata

Interview with Cover Model and Actor Joseph Cannata

With the release of Laura Wright’s new novel BRANDED, we have the pleasure of interviewing the amazing Joseph Cannata-cover model and actor. Let’s welcome Joseph to The Reading Cafe.

TRC: Hi Joseph and welcome to The Reading Café. Congratulations on getting the cover of Laura Wright’s BRANDED.

We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Follow Joseph at : Website/ Twitter/

Joseph: Thank you Sandy, well you’ve got my name down already, so we’re off to a good start. I am an Actor/Model born and raised in the beautiful City of Toronto, Ontario. Both my mother and father still tease me to this day that my career is in front of a camera, growing up, I was painfully shy.

TRC: What were your goals and aspirations growing up?

Joseph: When I was a lot younger, I had a fascination with airplanes, I wanted to be a pilot for a very long time. Later on I was working toward becoming a firefighter while also being introduced to acting through my drama class. I figured I’d work hard at acting so that one day I would be a firefighter in a movie or show (less risk I suppose ☺ )

TRC: As a Canadian actor/model do you see many differences or similarities in the industry between the countries?

Joseph: It seems to be getting better in Canada, the industry and a whole. But I personally think there are still many differences, there just doesn’t seem to be enough work in Canada, even though there is work going on all the time, the opportunity for those big break jobs just don’t come around as often as they do in the USA or around the world.

TRC: Will you please tell us about how you got started in the modeling/cover modeling business?

Joseph: I was actually taking a personal break from the business, when my current had sent me an email asking if I was interested in having representation for print work. It was perfect timing for me as I was getting ready to start work again and was going to be on the hunt for new representation. Modeling for me wasn’t something I had interest in per say, I am fortunate enough to have a look that clients find desirable and was more than happy to get involved in it and see where it goes.

TRC: Your most recent cover is BRANDED by Laura Wright. Do you know the number of novel covers that your image has appeared?

Joseph: Unfortunately I’ve actually lost count of the number of books I’ve done. I know my mother is an avid collector of the novels and the book shelf seems to be growing each time I visit my family.

TRC: What was your first ‘published’ cover and by whom?

Joseph: I will never forget my first time, shooting a book cover ☺ It was called “Forever Buckhorn” by Lori Foster

TRC: At times, there has been a ‘stigma’ surrounding the male model and the romance-cover industry. What is your opinion about the recent popularity of the romance/paranormal storyline and the very busy industry of the romance cover model? In other words, do you believe the cover images help sell the books?

Joseph: I think it’s great, most people see the industry dominated by women, which is true. However, there are pleanty of male modeling jobs out there, great ones. Working on cover books is part of that, they’re always a fun, relaxed shoot, the art diretors always set the mood for the shoot before we start which certainly helps me get into whatever character I need to portray. I do think the cover images are very important. Most people are very visual, and they enjoy being able to imagine the cover guy/girl being a real person. People go nuts when they find out a book they love so much is going to film, they want to know who the actors will be. We always have this image in our head of what they’ll look like, It’s a fun process.

TRC: Have you ever had a photo shoot that went completely wrong?

Joseph: Hmm, I think I’ve only experienced one cover shoot with an issue. I was working with two little twin girls. Working with children is always very challenging, their parents are on set and close by and I find that is a huge distraction, not only for me, but for the children themselves. One of the girls was very comfortable with me, the other wouldn’t stop crying and wanting her mother. I felt that it was my fault that, wow! I must be bad at my job to make this little girl cry, ha ha! It all worked out in the end, with a little photoshop magic, both girls appeared on the cover.

TRC: Nudity in modeling or acting can be controversial. Some pictures can cross the line between sexuality and pornography. What would you tell young models just entering the business about nude modeling?

Joseph: My personal opinion on it, male or female. You have to ask yourself, what type of work it is you’re in the business for. There is nothing wrong with sexuality or pornography in print, however they are completely different areas of modeling. It all comes down the project, what it’s being used for, who’s the photographer and where it will be published.

TRC: Who do you most admire and why?

Joseph: It may sound cliché, but I’ve got to say my mother. Not only has she brought me into this world, but also she has raised me exactly the way I would want to be raised, with nothing but love and affection. She is my biggest fan, always supporting me when things are going well and when I’m having moments of “can I really do this job forever”. She will always push me and keep my confidence at a healthy level, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without her support. I’ve seen her go through a lot the past year and her strength and patience deserves an award.

TRC: What is your most embarrassing moment?

Joseph: Oh boy, I think every audition I go to is my most embarrassing moment. They’re always so silly and will never be able to accept them for what they are! However a very embarrassing story before I was acting/modeling happened at a clothing store I used to work at. A customer was taking fancy to me, of course I didn’t really put it all together until all the girls and manager at the store were laughing at me. The customer had asked me to try on a few articles of clothing because I was roughly the size of the person she was shopping for. That was the easy part, until she asked me if I could try on some underwear for her. Me being me, I went to my manager and asked if I could try on the underwear for this customer, you know, you’ve gotta keep the customers happy. She laughed at me and said Joseph, I think she likes you! I felt my face start heating up and I finally figured it out that she wanted to see me in some briefs!

TRC: When you are not modeling what can we find you doing-in other words-what is your ‘day job’? 😉

Joseph: I am very fortunate enough to treat Acting/Modeling as my ‘day job’ it’s something I continue to work very hard at and persue, I’m in it for the long haul. You can see me out and about shopping, and keeping healthy at the gym too ☺

TRC: What three (3) things would you like to accomplish in the next ten (10) years?

Joseph:

1 – I would like to be lucky enough to book roles without having to go to auditions. Hopefully in the next 10 years of hard work I’ll have graduated to that level, or at least be offered roles.

2 – Even though I am a full time Actor/Model, I still feel there’s plenty I need to accomplish and learn in this business. More international work, having done some recently I am hungry to attack many more international markets

3 – Like everyone else in this world, I just want to enjoy what I do for the rest of my life, while having a great balance between work and leisure. It’s important to find a job you are passionate about and not worry about money so much. A great philosopher Alan Watts asked the question ‘what would you like to do if money were no object?’ How would you really enjoy spending your life? I think that’s a great question that many people don’t stop to really think about.

TRC: What is something that few people (if any) know about you?

Joseph: When I mention to people who don’t know me that I used to be and still can be very shy when I’m not working. They find it hard to believe, considering my job. I always tell them, work is different, I’m hired for the skills that I bring to set. I don’t bring those skills to a shopping mall when I’m alone shopping in a crowded mall, that just gives me anxiety!

TRC: Would you please tell us what you do to relax?

Joseph: I really enjoy reading, listening to music, watching movies is very relaxing for me. I find the gym as well, a place of relaxation; it’s my own personal therapist. I throw everything at it and all it gives back to me is this utopic feeling. It’s a good relationship

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Joseph: I’m not currently working on anything specific, everyday is a new day. I’ve recently returned from working in South Africa where I had the pleasure to book a few great jobs. I really fell in love with the country and may perhaps be returning once again in the fall.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Joseph: Oh I’m sure I’ve bored all of you by now, just want to say thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better and I hope everything has enjoyed reading this interview as much as I’ve enjoyed discussing it. If anyone is interested in keeping up with my daily, weekly, monthly, yearly shenanigans you can find me on Instagram @Josephcannats twitter @JosephCannata, and soon I will have a public profile page on Facebook. Review

Branded by Laura Wright is the first book in her new The Cavanaugh Brothers series. Of late, I have been enjoying a few romance series that focus mostly on brothers, some with a sister or two. These books have become my go to when I want a relaxing and enjoyable read. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Laura Wright’s new book and ohhhh am I glad I did. This was such an awesome story, with a couple that was hotter than hell. Good thing my kindle doesn’t steam.

The story takes place mostly on a ranch in River Black, Texas. We learn early on that the Cavanaugh family suffered a tragic death 10 years earlier, causing the family to disintegrate slowly. With the death of Everett, the patriarch, the brothers return home for the funeral, after years away.

Mac Byrd is our heroine, and she is a fantastic one at that. Mac is the foreman of the ranch, and though she is female, she is much respected among her workers and the townsfolk. While the boys were away, their father taught Mac everything, and she loved Everett and the ranch. Mac not only was tough, savvy and smart; she was also a very feminine and a beautiful young lady.

Deacon, the oldest brother, who has made himself into a shrewd and wealthy businessman, returns home determined to destroy the ranch. With money to burn, he has no qualms about what he will do, even if it hurts others; since he believes it is the only way to rid himself of his demons from the past. But Deacon must come up against Mac in this fight to see who will win, and Mac will not go down easy. Or will she?

As a young teenager, Mac always had a crush on Deac, as she was best friends with Cass, the Cavanaugh Brothers sister. Not having seen him in years, Mac at first was incensed when he announced at his father’s funeral his plans. But once these two come face to face, the sparks go flying off the walls; this time Deac finds himself totally entranced by the grown up and beautiful Mac. There were a number of times I wanted to smack Deac, as he was the epitome of a ruthless businessman who would stop at nothing to get his way. But I loved that Mac was able to break through that barrier so fast, and Deac never knew what hit him. What follows is a wonderful sexy romance that was filled with lust, and very steamy sex scenes. Neither one of them could keep their hands off of each other. They were so great together, that despite their opposite issues, you rooted for them all the way.

Though they both were falling in love, would they be able to get past the obstacles in front of them? Mac loved the ranch, and when she discovers why Deac is vengeful against his dead father, will she still stand by quietly and allow him to destroy it? Deac had his demons to erase; would his growing love for Mac change him?

Laura Wright has written a fantastic story of a family destroyed by a terrible tragedy; which will continue to play a part in the remaining books in this series. This is also such a wonderful romance, with a fabulous couple, who are not only hotter than hot, but so perfect together. Laura has also created some wonderful secondary characters. If you love romance, a great story, wonderful characters, mystery, steamy sex, and a super couple, then Branded is for you.

SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE (Charley Davidson #6) by Darynda Jones-a review

Sixth Grave on the Edge May 14

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 20 2014

Few things in life can come between a grim reaper and her coffee, but the sexy, sultry son of Satan is one of them. Now that Reyes Farrow has asked for her hand, Charley Davidson feels it’s time to learn more about his past, but Reyes is reluctant to open up. When the official FBI file of his childhood abduction lands in her lap, Charley decides to go behind her mysterious beau’s back and conduct her own investigation. Because what could go wrong?

Unfortunately, another case has fallen into her lap—one with dangerous implications. Some very insistent men want Charley to hunt down a witness who is scheduled to testify against their boss, a major player in the local crime syndicate. If Charley doesn’t come up with an address in 48 hours, the people closest to her will start to disappear.

Add to that a desperate man in search of the soul he lost in a card game, a dogged mother determined to find the ghost of her son, and a beautiful, young Deaf boy haunted by his new ability to see the departed as clearly as he sees the living, and Charley has her hands full. The fact that Reyes has caught on to her latest venture only adds fuel to the inferno that he is. Good thing for Charley she’s used to multi-tasking and always up for a challenge…especially when that challenge comes in the form of Reyes Farrow.

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEWS: SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE is the sixth instalment in Darynda Jones’s paranormal/UF Charley Davidson series focusing on grim reaper Charlotte (Charley) Davidson. As with all of the Charley Davidson storylines we find our heroine the target of more than one being-some demonic, some corrupt, many dead but all wanting something in the end. Told from first person POV (Charley) SIXTH GRAVE advances the series but a few days.

There are several focuses in the storyline including a man who lost his soul in a game of cards and Charley’s dogged determination to uncover the truth about Reyes’s past. She knows some of the ugly details of his childhood but she will set her sights on the people she believes gave birth to the Son of Satan. When Reyes demands that she stop her investigation, Charley’s inquiring mind doesn’t necessarily want to hear the story behind the story.

We will be introduced to the Dealer-a demon from Hell who knows more about Charley’s predestination than Reyes has revealed. The Dealer offers up ‘a deal’ to those in need but his price is steep and beyond what most people can pay. Charley is drawn to the Dealer if for no other reason than to learn the truth about who and what she has been ‘born’ to do.

Angel, Charley’s forever thirteen year old ghostly assistant, will have a more active role in this particular storyline. We will learn the truth about his death and the woman who wants to know if her son is still on this plane of existence. Some stories are harder to tell and Angel’s story is one that has been building since book one.

Cookie is her usual manic self-from the brains behind Charley’s PI investigations to the woman who has fallen for Charley’s Uncle Bob, Cookie is a one woman power house who plays off of Charley’s natural sarcastic banter-a perfect combination in any storyline or series. When Charley sets up a series of dates for the voluptuous assistant, Ubie (or Uncle Bob) becomes suspicious when he recognizes one of the men with whom Cookie has been paired.

SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE is not as dark as some of the previous instalments. Charley’s knack for putting herself into dangerous situations continues but any near death experiences will not result in weeks to months of rehabilitation as in the past. Charley has yet to say YES to Reyes proposal and he is a man possessed to make Charley his wife and his own.

The relationship between Reyes and Charley is imaginative, erotic and arousing-psychic sensuality is something we should all strive to achieve. Reyes is the epitome of sex; his allure is far reaching but he is intensely captivated by only one woman-a woman who was made especially for him.

The ending and revelation were not unexpected for this reader but it was a definite twist in the storyline development. When the prophecies have decreed that the Twelve Hounds from Hell will destroy Charley, there is another Twelve waiting to protect the daughter they have all been waiting to see.

Darynda Jones writes from the heart with humor, sarcasm, an astonishing concept of friendship and a brilliant mind. The Charley Davidson series is a phenomenal UF/paranormal series that focuses on a kick-a$$ heroine who knows there are limitations to her powers but has yet to reach her ordained levels prescribed in the hierarchy of all things supernatural and decreed.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 10, 2014

Betrayed by one of her own and turned into a vampire, hunter Eve is consumed by her hunger for vengeance and has spent five years surviving hell, driven to take the life of the man she once loved. But just as she is about to close in on the hunter-turned-vampire, an event is set in motion that threatens to see him slip beyond her grasp forever—the leader of her bloodline has sent an escort to bring her to the family’s mansion. To a nest of the very creatures she once hunted and loathes.

A vampire assassin hardened by centuries of service, Tor is a man of discipline and loyalty, never straying from his mission or the rules set out for him, and has purged all his weaknesses, including his emotions.

But the moment he meets the broken, fiery female he is to escort to Oslo, something dangerous awakens in him, something possessive and powerful, and when he is pulled into a deadly game of cat and mouse with the man who betrayed her, Tor discovers he will do anything to protect the woman slowly claiming his heart and give her the vengeance she desires—even break all the rules.

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: HUNGER is the eighth full length novel in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult Vampires Realm paranormal romance series. Told from close third person POV this is vampires Tor and Eve’s storyline. Although HUNGER is a part of a continuing series, it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any information required from previous storylines is imparted to the reader where necessary.

Tor is a vampire assassin and hunter-a part of the Vehemens clan; Eve is also a hunter but one who hunted the very thing she has become. As a member of the royal family-a Chosen Daughter and a constituent of the same Vehemens clan as Tor- it is time Eve must take her place as part of the ruling family. Tor is sent as her guardian and escort from Paris to Amsterdam not knowing that Eve has been targeted by someone she once trusted and loved.

The attraction between Tor and Eve is immediate but Tor has learned to keep his emotions and feelings to himself. A hunter since his transition Tor has seen murder, torture and abuse first hand and hopes to keep that part of his life secreted away from the woman with whom he is falling in love. The relationship between our leading couple is necessary, protective, seductive and provocative. Tor has experienced the rejection and the disdain of vampire hierarchy, and knows that his presence in Eve’s life will not be accepted or condoned.

The secondary characters include Eve’s father, sister and extended family; the Three Law Keepers (akin to vampire royalty special forces); and the one man Eve has targeted for destruction. The supernatural world building continues with each storyline and HUNGER follows Lilith’s (Eve’s sister) story –Seventh Circle (book four).

Felicity Heaton writes an emotional and moving storyline of betrayal and hope; love and acceptance; family and fitting in. HUNGER is a story of adventure and action that will captivate and fascinate; her leading characters are quick to accept all that life has to offer-there is no overreaching fear of rejection or the constant push and pull of a love/hate relationship. Heaton’s characters are adults who know what they want, and Tor and Eve have found a bond in one another.

Writing Hunger in the Vampires Realm series by Felicity Heaton

It’s great to be here at The Reading Cafe today as part of the Hunger Virtual Book Tour celebrating the release of the latest book in my Vampires Realm series of paranormal romance novels.

Today, I’m going to be talking about the challenges I faced when writing Hunger.

But before we get to the main event, I want to introduce myself. I’m a British paranormal romance author and a New York Times and USA Today best-seller. I have been writing since 2005, and went indie in 2006. I love to write big worlds, populated by vampires, shifters, demons, fae and angels, and I have several series. This tour is about the Vampires Realm series, which focuses on the world of the seven pureblood vampire families of Europe, the werewolves fighting for their freedom, the weakling vampires, and the vampire hunters determined to destroy them all.

Now, on with the show…

When I came up with the idea for Hunger, I couldn’t wait to write it because it had a complicated heroine, a hardened hero, and a compelling plot. It offered me a challenge and I loved that.

The biggest challenge for me in Hunger was the heroine. Eve is a vampire hunter, born and raised, who is turned vampire after her partner betrays her. She has been raised to loathe vampires, and view them as her enemy, and believes they’re all soulless killers without mercy and deserve to die. Being plunged into their world as one of them has really eaten away at her strength and the woman at the start of the book is very different from the hunter she had once been. I really like writing characters filled with a need for vengeance and driven by that dark compulsion. Normally, I’m writing male characters in that situation, so it was refreshing to write a female.

What made writing this book exciting was trying to strike a balance in Eve between the emotions tearing her in several directions. It’s always difficult to get the right balance between weakness and strength in a heroine. Eve is at her lowest, with only revenge keeping her alive, and it was hard to show that without making her look weak and feeble—something unappealing in a paranormal romance heroine. Her heart and her head have different agendas, and it was fun seeing those change during the course of the book and slowly come together as she discovers her feelings for her assassin hero, Tor, and she begins to find her feet again and grows stronger.

Tor adds another level to the complications I had when writing Hunger. He’s a hardened assassin who has purged all his weaknesses, and that includes his softer emotions. He’s spent three centuries killing for his bloodline and obeying orders, so you can imagine that falling in love is not in his repertoire. I had a great time writing Tor as he slowly comes to grips with the emotions that Eve reawakens in him, learning to handle them. They’re all extremely foreign to him, and some really send him into a spin. It was great taking this big, alpha assassin and making him fall in love, and fight to convince Eve that life is worth living—with him.

I also really loved writing several locations in Europe that I know well. The book kicks off in Paris but is also set in Amsterdam and Oslo too. I hadn’t written about Amsterdam before and it’s a city I had a great, but chilly, time in one Valentine’s Day with my husband. It was fantastic being able to revisit it in this book.

So if you like hardened alpha male assassin vampires, strong heroines who won’t let a man do their dirty work and are happy handing out some cans of whoop-ass to the bad guys, globetrotting, high tension and drama, big explosions (really big), and occasionally crazy vampire law enforcement officers called Law Keepers… then take a peek at Hunger.

Be sure to follow this fantastic tour to learn more about the passionate heroes and strong heroines in the Vampires Realm romance series! The Red Moon Teen Summer Reading Event
June 1-30, 2014
Red Moon Trilogy banner

For the month of June, every teen will be able to read TIME TRAP, book one in the Red Moon Trilogy, free on any mobile device or computer by merely clicking on www.RedMoonTrilogy.com

No “sign in” required, because this is not about gathering data.

Summer is a great time to encourage a teen to read. For that reason, USA Today bestselling author Micah Caida has launched the first Red Moon Summer Reading Event program, and she hopes other authors and publishers will consider similar events in the future.

Why offer an entire book for free?

From Micah—
“It’s important to encourage teens to read “what they choose” and “when they want,” because reading is one habit everyone can benefit from, and it’s been proven to improve test scores. Another reason? Reviews like this one say it best… “

“If I had found books like this when I was a teen, I would have started reading much earlier, instead of waiting until my mid twenties!”~~ Kay Barnes, adult

Time Trap
Book 1—February 2013

Caida-Time TrapLink for Free Time Trap

Her memory is blank. Her future’s in question. Her power is dangerous.
My name is Rayen. I awoke in an unknown desert landscape that seemed familiar, yet I had no real memory of this place or…who I am. A strange ghost told me my name and that I’m seventeen, but he disappeared just as I could have used some help. I was captured along with others my age who said the place was called Albuquerque, then I was dropped at a private school where at times things seem as familiar as the nearby mountain range and at other times, as alien as the image of my face. Everyone thinks I’m a Native American runaway, whatever that is, but the school has offered me a place until they learn my true identity, or until my memory returns. I’m stuck working with a smart-mouthed, computer – savvy boy and meet a strange, but gifted, oddball girl, and the three of us discover a secret that will threaten the existence of this world – and the future. As if things weren’t confusing enough, in the middle of all that, I’m turned inside out by a seventeen-year-old boy who is as deadly as he is attractive. And he thinks I’m the enemy.

Rayen promised to return, Gabby must return, and Tony can’t return.
Three teenage friends are connected by a shared secret which forces a decision with consequences no one expects. When Rayen arrives on the Red Moon sphere again, she finds shocking changes. Her arrival causes more upheaval and danger for the MystiK children, creating a heart-wrenching challenge for Callan, who must choose between duty and holding on to the one girl he can’t have. But walking away is harder than he expects when a new MystiK male in the sphere is poised to take Callan’s place. Under threat of attack from an unexpected enemy, Rayen and Callan must put their personal feelings aside to unite a village in chaos.
Choices backfire, trust is forfeit and alliances shift as elements of the Damian Prophecy begin to fall into place and the time of reckoning is closer than anyone expected.

His duty. Her destiny. Their last hope.

Every minute counts – literally – as Rayen races against time and impossible odds to deliver a one-of-a-kind computer to the Sphere. Failure means Callan’s death at the hands of his TecKnati enemies. The problems don’t stop there. Rayen, Tony and Gabby’s battle to save their MystiK friends triggers a collision course for two worlds 166 years apart.

Countdown begins now for when the Red Moon sets for the last time.

about the author

Micah Caida is the melding of two voices, two personalities and two minds – one New York Times bestseller and one USA Today bestseller – which often results in the strangest ideas.  Micah enjoys exploring how different characters react and deal with similar situations.  Life is often filled with the unexpected – both good and bad.  While creating the Red Moon Trilogy, Micah hit upon a very unusual “what if” that exploded into an epic story filled with teenagers who face impossible odds, but are the only ones who can save the world from itself.

Inspiration behind the Red Moon Trilogy–

In a brainstorming session, Micah hit on an idea that wouldn’t let go– a young girl and two friends faced with saving not just the current day world, but the future.  It was an opportunity to create a story that was unlike anything else on shelves today– a journey fraught with challenges that demand all a teen possesses just to survive in a place where even love is a dangerous risk.
