He just didn’t count on their explosive connection rekindling. But with a deadly threat on the horizon, will he be able to keep his body’s demands in check and complete his mission?

Review:

Necessary Force by D.D. Ayres is a novella that starts off the new K-9 Rescue series. This was an exciting and sexy fast read that I finished in one sitting. Georgie Flynn is a talented photographer, who does a favor for a friend to raise money for K-9 service dogs. When we meet Georgie, she is taking pictures of the sexy hot naked guy sleeping in her bed. That was a fun start, letting our imagination run, wondering how we can get a copy of those photos. 🙂

A couple of months later, when Georgie returns home from a shoot, she finds her house ransacked. The FBI becomes involved, as there is a bomber on the loose, and they think Georgie can help them find him. She doesn’t have much choice, as she is now suspected to be part of this conspiracy. To her surprise, the agent assigned to protect her and help her find the bomber, is the man she spent the night with, and his backside picture of his marvelous physique is framed on her wall.

Brad is our hero, and he comes with a cute dog named Zander. He tries to hide the fact that he is attracted to Georgie from his superiors because he wants to help her and protect her. What follows is a suspenseful thriller where Georgie is in danger, with a stalker following her. The exciting climax was very well done, and the romance between Georgie and Brad was very sensuous. I look forward to the full length novel that will follow.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 14, 2014

Eden Durant hasn’t always been Eden Durant. She’s made a fresh start in Shelbyville, Texas, far from her mother’s notoriety. Running the Paradise Garden Café is as much excitement as Eden wants—or it was, until she meets Beck Childress. Although he’s the one man who could expose her past, she’s willing to open up enough to see if he might be her future.

Chief Deputy Childress is determined to get to know the real Eden, when he isn’t busy cleaning up after the sheriff and running in the election to replace him. When several men fall sick after eating in Eden’s café, he investigates even as her mysterious past raises both his suspicions and his protective instincts.

As their relationship heats up, so do the pressures of Beck’s campaign. When Eden’s secrets are revealed, jeopardizing his dream of becoming sheriff, he’ll need to choose: serve and protect the town he loves or the woman who makes it home.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: PROBLEMS IN PARADISE is the third instalment in Kelsey Browning’s adult contemporary Texas Nights romance series focusing on the men and women of Shelbyville, Texas. This is Chief Deputy Beck Childress and café owner Eden Durant’s story. Although this is the third in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. Some of the previous storyline characters play a secondary role and any information necessary from the previous storylines is revealed when needed.

The focus of the story is the building relationship between Beck and Eden, and the investigation into a series of poisonings at Eden’s Paradise Garden Café. With Eden the prime suspect, Beck struggles with his need to be objective while on the job and his need for the woman who calls to his soul. But someone is hoping to take Eden down and in doing so, compromises Beck’s run for the sheriff of Shelbyville Texas. It is a small town where everyone knows your business but in some cases, it is the past that comes back to destroy your life.

The relationship between Beck and Eden is sensual and seductive. The sex scenes are hot; definitely adult in nature. There is an immediate attraction between our couple and one that is not accepted by many of the town’s people including Beck’s recently relocated sister.

The secondary characters are colorful and drive a good portion of the storyline. Small town living is not for everyone especially when the town is run by people who refuse to move forward-out of the past. Beck and Eden will caught up in a power play for struggle and control-not of their making.

Kelsey Browning writes a storyline that invites the reader into a world of romance; where betrayal comes at the hand of family; and where love comes from an unexpected source.

A TASTE OF PASSION (Sweet Temptation #1) by Ashley Lister-a review

A Taste of Passion

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO /

About the book: Release Date June 26, 2014

When baking entrepreneur Trudy Cole falls for celebrity chef Bill Hart, all is far from sweetness and light. Instead passion, betrayal and ambition makes for an explosive mix in the high stakes game of gourmet dining.

Trudy Cole is an aspiring chef with ambitions to own her own patisserie. When she encounters celebrity chef Bill Hart she finds the older man antagonistic but disconcertingly attractive. Sexual chemistry soon boils to an unbearable temperature and they become lovers.

But Trudy’s affair and ambitions for her own business become too hot to handle when she discovers that Bill has a wife. To make matters worse, her business partner and ardent admirer, Donny, threatens to destroy her patisserie and Bill Hart’s reputation.

At a stately home where Trudy wants to woo investors with her culinary masterpieces, the paths of all three players cross again and the heat is turned up to a much higher setting…

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: A TASTE OF PASSION is the first instalment in Ashley Lister’s new, contemporary, adult Sweet Temptation erotic romance series focusing on celebrity chef William (Bill) Hart and culinary school graduate Trudy Cole. The storyline follows many of the more popular older, wealthy man/younger, naïve woman formulas. The D/s relationship begins when Trudy demands an audience with Chef Hart not realizing that Hart has been asked to invest in Trudy and her friend’s pastry shop-Sweet Temptations.

The focus of the storyline follows Trudy as she is pulled into the world of Bill Hart. Several years Trudy’s senior, Bill is a celebrity chef with a book and a television show in the works but a man who hides many secrets and many affairs. As their relationship builds Trudy quickly finds herself the new sous chef at Bill’s restaurant but jealousy and revenge will pit the staff and Bill against one another as Trudy and Bill become the pawns in a game of vengeance and reprisal. Harsh words and even harsher punishment will be meted out and Trudy must make a decision whether to remain under Bill’s dominance both in and out of the bedroom.

The relationship between Trudy and Bill is one of Dominance and submission. There is no denying that Trudy has entered into the relationship wholly aware of her role and what it is she wants. But saying that, I did not feel the connection between our leading couple other than the D/s relationship. Their’s is a case of insta-lust and wanting something they shouldn’t have.  Trudy’s need to escape from her crazy friends pushes her into a situation that is volatile and compromising.

The secondary characters are colorful, angry, aggressive and drive a good portion of the storyline. Trudy’s former best friends border the line between sane and psychotic, and the staff at the restaurant make sure that Trudy knows exactly where it is she stands.

The world building pulls the reader behind the scenes of high end dining, exclusivity and the celebrity of a world famous chef, and the notoriety and fall out of an affair that is about to crash and burn.

If you are a fan of the light BDSM storylines and like the world of the rich and famous, then A TASTE OF PASSION is for you. The story ends rather abruptly on a bit of a cliffhanger where the reader is left wondering what happened and where it will go. Because this is the first in the series, there are several issues unanswered and not addressed.

THE TEA SHOP ON LAVENDER LANE (Life in Icicle Falls 5) by Sheila Roberts-a review

The Tea Shop of Lavender Lane

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 24, 2014

When it comes to men, sisters don’t share!

After a fake food poisoning incident in L.A., Bailey Sterling’s dreams of becoming a caterer to the stars collapse faster than a soufflé. Now Bailey’s face is in all the gossip rags and her business is in ruins. But the Sterling women close ranks and bring her back to Icicle Falls, where she’ll stay with her sister Cecily.

All goes well between the sisters until Bailey comes up with a new business idea—a tea shop on a charming street called Lavender Lane. She’s going into partnership with Todd Black, who—it turns out—is the man Cecily’s started dating. It looks to Cecily as if there’s more than tea brewing in that cute little shop. And she’s not pleased.

Wait! Isn’t Cecily seeing Luke Goodman? He’s a widower with an adorable little girl, and yes, Cecily does care about him. But Todd’s the one who sends her zing-o-meter off the charts. So now what? Should you have to choose between your sister and the man you love (or think you love)?

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE TEA SHOP ON LAVENDER LANE is the fifth instalment in Sheila Roberts’ adult, contemporary Life In Icicle Falls romance series. This is the fifth story in the series, and it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty but saying that there are many characters from previous storylines with a history in Icicle Falls that I would have like to have met before reading this book as they are mentioned or play a significant role in the story.

Told from several third person POVs, the focus of the story centers on sisters Bailey and Cecily Sterling-drama queens to the max with issues of self esteem. Bailey has returned to Icicle Falls following a PR disaster in LA where she was accused of serving tainted food to an upstart starlet. With her now defunct catering business to the stars all but destroyed Bailey returns home to wallow in self pity when an idea from an unlikely source has Bailey partnering with her sister Cecily’s wanna-be boyfriend Todd Black in a tea room business venture.

Cecily, ex-matchmaker and part owner of the family run chocolate shop, is attracted to two men-fellow employee (and widowed father) Luke Goodman, and bad boy Todd Black-tavern owner and hot sex on a stick. One man is safe and secure, while the other is every woman’s wet dream but Cecily wants both men for different reasons, and plays one against the other in a dangerous game of courtship and rivalry. While Cecily plays push and pull with both men, she doesn’t see that Todd is falling for his new business partner and in this, sibling jealousy, is taken to a whole new level. Todd is falling in love with Cecily’s sister Bailey while Cecily continues her game of cat and mouse.

To be honest, this was one of the most frustrating storylines I have read in a long time. Cecily played with both men’s emotions and hearts, and in this the anxiety level rose exponentially. Her immature behavior amounted to nothing but a tease for the two men in her life and, the reader as well. It was difficult to understand Cecily’s behavior, as though she was the wounded party, especially when she blamed everything on her sister Bailey.

The secondary characters are colorful and add to the already unstable personas of our leading heroines. The Sterling sisters make sibling rivalry and jealousy an art form.

THE TEA SHOP ON LAVENDER LANE is an interesting story about four people pulled together by circumstance and family; where jealousy makes for an uncomfortable setting; and falling in love is a matter for the heart and not the mind. There is no sex, no graphic violence and no graphic language-a throw back to another time and place.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 28, 2014

When a cursed family heirloom sends Gretta Dobbs back in time, a hunky construction worker, Sam Daggett, suddenly finds himself love struck and joins her adventure. Their souls entwine within the bodies of young lovers on a Greek island in 1829, where they begin to unravel the mysteries behind Gretta’s ring all while avoiding a bloodthirsty pirate who is determined to seek revenge. Gretta and Sam must find the secrets needed to save her and her relatives from an afterlife in purgatory and return to their own lives—or risk becoming prisoners of the past, continuing the evil cycle of the ring’s curse.

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: I wasn’t sure at first. But I persevered, and boy, I’m glad I did…. A great read.

Sam and Gretta are sent back in time, and they live through the bodies of a kidnapped sailor, Lorenzo and a young Greek woman, Anya. They are sent to solve the mystery of a generations old curse.. It’s a race against time to prevent Gretta from becoming the curse’s next victim.

Snapping back and forth between past and present, took a little adjustment, but it all made sense, eventually. The feelings between Sam and Gretta felt pretty realistic. It felt a little busy as Lorenzo, Anya, Sam and Gretta all battled for reading time, but I liked that, each character was an individual, but the melding between the male and female characters grabbed my attention. Attention to detail made this book a fun read.

I look forward to reading the next installment in this adventure. Do they end the curse ? Do both Lorenzo and Sam get their girls ??? Read it and find out.

I can highly recommend this book. 4 stars

She’ll just have to save all that lusting for post-show, when she’s free to follow where her loins lead.

When a tribal twist puts them both on the same team – naked – will Annabelle be able to resist his very apparent charms? Or will she have to vote Jendan out to save her game?

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: BODY GAMES is the fifth instalment in Jessica Clare’s contemporary adult GAMES romance series focusing on the games and people of reality TV. This is Annabelle Tucker, first introduced in book one Wicked Games and Jendan Abercrombie from book four Bedroom Games. The premise of the series follows many of today’s popular reality television programs including Survivor, Big Brother and The Amazing Race. Although this is the fifth in the series it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. Any pertinent information from previous storylines is reintroduced to the reader where necessary.

Told from first person POV (Annabelle) the focus of the storyline follows Annabelle as she is invited back to Endurance Island –a sort of all star reality show with former winners and losers from other reality TV shows. Reluctant to accept because of the humiliation she endured following her last trip to Endurance Island, Annabelle must decide whether betrayal and heartbreak are worth a million dollars and revenge-but there is always a catch-and Annabelle is blindsided two times before the show has started filming. Annabelle made a promise to herself not to get involved with any of the men but promises are made to be broken and Annabelle finds herself falling in love-all over again. There is a twist to this season’s Endurance Island-one that opens up a whole different view for the participants and viewers.

The relationship between Jendan and Annabelle is slow to build as the storyline follows two separate pairings, and our leading couple are not together in the initial stages of the book. As Annabelle plots revenge against the man who destroyed her heart and her soul on the previous Endurance Island, she will soon find herself playing the game to win-no matter who must go home in the process.

We are introduced to some of the previous storyline characters who have returned for a second shot at a million dollars. As the days and weeks go by, we watch as survivor after survivor is eliminated until the final two standing must confront the people that were evicted before.

Jessica Clare pulls the reader into a world that most of us watch from the comfort of our living room-the drama, the trauma and the alliances that are formed all in the name of winning. There is conflict between players and teams but in the end, only one person will be left standing and taking home the one million dollars. BODY GAMES is a story where betrayal is all a part of the game but betrayal of the heart is another matter all together. Jessica brings the unreality of reality TV onto the pages of the books we love to read.

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

WOW! Another grand slam by Grace Burrowes. I really … REALLY enjoyed this historical romance. I love that Grace writes mature,” lived life a little and now much wiser” kind of characters. I think this is the big reason why her stories seems to flow so naturally and always before I know it, I am finished the book. The believability is front and centre as is the ability to feel sympathy and compassion. I always FEEL FEEL FEEL reading a Grace Burrowes book and I absolutely love that. I also adore that she always seems to write the perfect match for her often conflicted characters and somehow they always seem to break the mold and become one of a kind!

So clearly, yes, once again I am gushing at my fave historical romance author, but it is well deserved. Let’s “meet” why shall we??? WINK!

A little darker to start than her other books I have read, The Captive is the first book in her Captive Heart series. Set in London and France during the Napoleon war, we are introduced to Christian Severn, Duke of Mercia right away. Unfortunately, it is after he has been captured by the French and is being viciously tortured and reduced to nothing short of an animal. Once the war is over, Christian is released and finds his way back home as an close to complete broken man (both physically and psychologically). He also learns that he has lost his Duchess and heir but his daughter survives.

Gillian, Countess of Greendale is recently widowed and is quite pleased about it. After surviving her own abusive situation, she has taken responsibility towards her cousins daughter (that would be Christian’s late Duchess). When she learns that the Duke has survived his ordeal, she takes it upon herself to barge in and demand that he step up and be a proper papa to his ailing daughter Lucy. Completely taken with Gilly in the most refreshing manner, Christian insists that Gilly stay on to help him with his daughter and somehow … to help him heal.

These two turn out to be what the other didn’t know they needed. With revenge strong in his mind, Christian is resolved in righting the wrongs that were inflicted upon his person .. no matter the cost. Gilly begins to strip away all that hate that consumes Christian and it’s through small displays of consideration on the other’s behalf that these two form a bond and perhaps a healing love. However, for a true happy ending, Gilly must learn that marriage doesn’t mean being under a man’s hand/word, and Christian must learn that revenge can tear apart his new found happiness. If these two can jump these hurdles, they have the makings for happily ever after.

Another wonderful start to a new series Grace Burrowes and I must admit I am anxious to read the next one!

HAPPY READING! 🙂

Review:

Up to Me by Christi Barth is the first book in her new Shore Secrets series. I have read most of Christi’s books, as she is a master at writing sweet lighthearted romances, with wonderful couples, friendships and great secondary characters. Up To Me is no different. I really enjoyed this fast fun relaxing read that takes place in a small town, with all of its charm.

Ella Mayhew is our heroine, and you immediately find yourself caring very much for her. Ella is the masseuse in the hotel she owns, since she prefers working in her spa, rather then running the hotel, Mayhew Manor, which was left to her by her deceased parents. I really love these books that take place in small towns, where everyone knows everyone’s business. After the tragic death of her parents, Ella went into a shell, doing her work and meeting with friends (the whole town loves her), with no ambition to take control of her life. Instead, she would always follow whatever her friends or townspeople advise her to do in a unique way that you have to read to understand. Cute.

Gray Locke is our hero, and he has a secret. He is at the resort spying to get information and help institute a hostile takeover of Mayhew Manor, with Ella losing everything, and the town going down with it. But the moment Gray meets Ella, and she puts her hands on him and gives him a quickie (massage lol), he is lost. Gray begins to try to romance Ella, though he knows he will be there only two weeks, and soon he begins to have second thoughts about hurting her. Gray hates his job, but he needs the money to take care of his ill mother. What follows is a sweet charming romance, with a sprinkle of humor along the way. What happens when Ella finds out why Gray is really there? Will Gray do his job and help take away the hotel from Ella?

This was a beautiful romance that was slow to build. Though both had lustful feelings for one another from the start, they decided to go slow and learn about each other. Christi did this so well, not rushing the sex, and allowing this romance to grow. Gray helps Ella become more confident and sure of herself, thereby becoming the leader that she was meant to be. But will she forgive him?

I really enjoyed Ella’s friends, though many of them were a little too quirky for me. However, it was nice that they all stood by Ella, which is what real friendship is all about. This also added to the humor of the story. As the romance built to where they both finally succumbed to their lust, it left me anxious to where it would end. I loved both Ella and Gray, and to Christi Barth’s credit, I could not put down the book, as I needed to know what would happen. I wholly recommend you to read Up To Me, as it is a very nice romance, small town atmosphere, good storyline, great friends, and a great couple.
