Make You RememberAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / The Book Depository / BAM

Description:
Ten years ago, Beau Dumont made the biggest mistake of his life by letting his high school sweetheart, Devyn Mauvais, slip through his fingers. Now the reformed bad boy will stop at nothing to get her back. Even if it means tricking her into taking a job on his family’s riverboat, The Belle of the Bayou.

When Devyn’s old flame offers her a stint at the boat’s day care center, she sees it as a chance to prove she isn’t just the descendant of Louisiana’s most infamous voodoo queen. Besides, it beats leading ghost tours around New Orleans. Yet when it comes to Beau, Devyn’s all business. She won’t give the sweet-talking playboy another chance to break her heart.

But there’s no escaping temptation in such close quarters, and Beau won’t be satisfied with a few hot nights with the girl he’s always loved. As he strives to make Devyn remember the good times, will his passion and heart be enough to regain her trust?

Review:

Make You Remember by Macy Beckett is the 2nd book in her Dumont Bachelors series. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and was excited to learn that Devyn would get her story next. I am happy to say this was another fantastic story by Beckett, that I could not get enough of, as it was a delightful romance and sexy as hell.

To give you a refresher, the Dumont men have been under a curse for almost a 100 years that was put on by Allie and Devyn’s grandmother. But Marc and Allie broke the hex in the first book, and they are now married. We find out in Make You Remember that the hex was only broken for the one brother.

Devyn Mauvais is our heroine, and she is Allie’s sister (our heroine in the first book). Devyn just about makes ends meet, running a shop with witchcraft gris gris. Devyn is offered a well-paying job to become a tour guide of a new company to do Ghost tours, using the Mauvais name. While Devyn has to decide if she wants to embarrass herself and her family to make this money, Beau Dumont comes to a temporary rescue. Beau is our hero, and he has just become a full partner with Marc on their riverboat. Beau offers Devyn a job on the next riverboat tour to run the education classes on the boat. At first Devyn hesitates, since she does not want to be near Beau, who was her high school sweetheart, but he left her to join the marines, and thereby broke her heart. But Beau has returned and he wants Devyn back.

What follows is a fun sweet, not to mention charming romance that sizzles through most of the book. Beau and Devyn made such a wonderful and sexy couple. Though Beau wants to break this hex with Devyn, she is afraid to get hurt again. The side story with Devyn teaching the youngsters on the boat was fun, and we get to see another side of Devyn. Beau was so swoonworthy throughout the book, that you couldn’t help fall for him. Will Devyn get past her fears and anxiety that Beau will run away again? Will they be able to break the hex?

What makes this series so good is not only the fabulous couples, but all the secondary characters that Beckett has made us fall in love with. We can look forward to seeing their stories told. The romance, and storyline was written so well by Macy Beckett. We had everything in this story, a fun and fabulous couple, steamy love scenes, LOL moments, family atmosphere, and the fun riverboat scene. If you want a fun and sweet charming romance; one that sizzles throughout, look no further then Make You Remember.

Sealing The Deal (The Ladies Who Lunch #4) by Sandy James-a review

Sealing The Deal (The Ladies Who Lunch #4) by Sandy James-a review

Sealing The Deal

Barnes and Noble / KOBO / iTunes /
Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 4, 2014

When Bethany Rogers’s sister dies in combat in Afghanistan, Bethany, a teacher and part-time interior decorator, takes in the nine-month-old daughter her sister left behind. As she struggles with the challenges of raising a young child, she gratefully accepts the help of her fellow Ladies Who Lunch as well as Robert Ashford, her longtime friend and boss at Ashford Homes. Robert is great with kids and has always mentioned wanting a family of his own. Beth soon feels more than gratitude toward her handsome helper, and longs to give in to the growing heat and desire brewing between them. But will loving Robert further complicate her already spinning-out-of-control life? And is he drawn to her, or to the idea of a ready-made family?

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SEALING THE DEAL is the third installment in Sandy James’s wonderful adult, contemporary The Ladies Who Lunch romance series focusing on a tight knit group of friends (and teachers) who meet every day for lunch to discuss life, love and growing old. This is home builder and former teacher Robert Ashford and teacher Bethany Rogers’s story. Although Sealing The Deal is the third book in the series it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from third person point of view the premise finds Bethany a new mother. Following the death of her sister Tiffany in Afghanistan, Beth becomes guardian and mother to Tiffany’s nine month old daughter Emma. Never having had children herself, thirty year old Bethany is overwhelmed with the prospect of raising her sister’s child. Without the help of her long time friend and ‘crush’ Robert ( a man almost ten years older), Emma would be lost in a sea of diapers, toys and sleepless nights. Robert’s experience as an uncle comes in handy as Beth begins to traverse the minefield of being a working, single mother to a little girl who has lost so much at such an early age.

The relationship between Robert and Bethany is a friends to lovers storyline. Robert and Beth have always been attracted to one another but have never crossed the line into romance or sex. When Robert makes Beth an offer she cannot refuse, the sparks begin to fly as their attraction to one another passes from friends to lovers. But when Bethany’s adoption plans for Emma hit a major snag in the form of Emma’s biological father, Emma’s displaced anger pushes Robert out of her life –possibly forever. The sex scenes are sensual and seductive. Robert is a man whose love for Emma is both emotional and physical.

The secondary characters include all of the previous storyline couples and, of course, the ladies who lunch-a group of well meaning but oft times over bearing women whose opinion and attitude sometimes push the boundaries of friendship and love. The world building continues as each of our ladies finds love and a happily ever after but not before a crisis will force each woman to look inside herself and see what it is she truly wants-and needs. There are moments of heartbreak and sorrow for our couple as their happily ever after may not be so happy after all.

Sandy James’s THE LADIES WHO LUNCH series is a realistic and passionate look at friendship and love-four friends who love one another and ‘tell it like it is’ –even when the truth hurts-but in the end have one another’s back when the going gets tough. We should all welcome such a friendship in our own lives. SEALING THE DEAL is another spirited and hopeful storyline from the fantastic mind of Sandy James.

CAGED IN WINTER by Brighton Walsh

ABOUT THE BOOK: ReleaseDate November 4, 2014

Aspiring chef Cade Maxwell is immediately, viscerally attracted to Winter Jacobson. But it’s not her mouthwatering curves he’s drawn to—it’s the strange emptiness in her eyes. When Cade saves her from a drunken customer with grabby hands, he’s shocked at her response

Winter doesn’t need Cade’s help. After a lifetime of getting by on her own, she’s happy to rely on herself. She’s exactly seventy-six days away from graduating college, and if she can hold it together that long, she’ll finally be able to rise above the crappy hand she was dealt.

But now, every time she turns around, Cade is there, ready to push her, smile at her, distract her from her plans. Winter knows she can’t afford to open up—especially to a man she’s terrified to actually want.

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: CAGED IN WINTER is the first installment in Brighton Walsh’s new adult, contemporary series. This is aspiring chef Cade Maxwell and web design student/waitress Winter Jacobson’s story. Told from alternating first person points of view (Winter and Cade) the storyline follows the building relationship between two people who know what it is to have suffered loss.

Cade is a man whose life inexplicably changed five years earlier upon the death of his mother. With his father long ago deceased, Cade was now the head of a household that included himself, his younger sister and with that the impending birth of his sister’s child. Fast forward five years and Cade is on the precipice of making it big in the culinary world but something or someone is holding him back. Ever the protector, Cade is reluctant to move forward fearing his sister and niece’s safety and protection. Enter Winter Jacobson-a feisty, independent and broken young woman who will turn Cade’s world upside and inside out.

Winter is a young woman whose life has been difficult. Growing up in the foster care system from an early age, Winter has come to depend on only one person-herself-and in this she is struggling to make ends meet. A full time web design student, working nights at a local bar, Winter will meet Cade Maxwell-a man who believes it is his right to protect Winter from the men who frequent the bar in which she works. But Winter wants nothing to do with Cade’s overbearing protective streak and a good portion of the storyline finds Winter at odds with Cade’s attention

The relationship is one of immediate attraction but one that could have easily gone sour with Winter’s attitude and inability to open up. She is a heroine who is closed off from others; someone who protects her privacy; and a woman who has seen too much heartbreak and betrayal in her life. The sex scenes are emotional, imaginative and intense.

The secondary characters include Cade’s friends and family including his sister Tessa whose story will be told in book two. The world building focuses on Cade’s culinary life, Winter’s need to succeed, and a back history of two people from different walks of life.

Brighton Walsh writes a passionate and provocative storyline that will see two people find their happily ever after. There will be bumps in the road when Winter refuses to accept the help that is offered, and in this, we see that love does not always conquer all.

I bend my knees so we’re eye level and tug on her hand until she meets my gaze. “I don’t know what we could have. It might be nothing. But I’ll be honest . . . I haven’t felt like this in a long time, and that’s enough for me to know I want to see where it goes. Can’t we just see where it goes?”
With a deep sigh, she says, “I’m not right for you, Cade.”
“How about you worry about if I’m right for you. Let me decide the other.”
And then before she can stop me, before she can utter another word of opposition, I slide my hand up her arm, over her shoulder, until it’s wrapped around her neck. With my other hand, I swipe a piece of hair back with my fingers, and then lean in, brushing my lips against hers. After only a moment, I pull back just enough for her to be able to tell me to stop. When nothing comes, I close the distance between us once again, taking her bottom lip in between mine. I brush my tongue against it, coaxing her mouth open, and she breathes this sexy little gasp as I slip inside. She tastes like cookies and wine, and I want to fucking devour her.
She grips my shirt with both hands, clutching me to her, and I stop holding back and press every inch of my body against hers, groaning as my cock presses fully against her. The moment a whimper comes from her, I know she feels it. And I can’t muster up any embarrassment, because I want her to feel it. Even with all her brass balls and fuck-everything attitude, something tells me she needs reassurance, so I give it to her. In every stroke of my tongue against hers, every brush of my thumb along her jaw, I show her how much I want her.
When her chest is heaving, her lips parted and swollen and so fucking hot, I trail kisses down her neck, seeking out every inch of skin that’s uncovered. Her head thumps back against the wall, one of her hands gone from gripping fistfuls of my shirt. Instead, she’s holding my head to her, and I don’t want to stop. I want to kiss and lick every inch of her, slip my hands under the material of her sweater, unbutton her jeans, and not stop until I feel her soft wetness against my fingertips.
But the knowledge that she’ll regret it if I don’t stop forces me to slow down.
I pull back, loosening my grip on her and putting an inch of space between us. I kiss the corner of her mouth, her cheek, and then her ear. Against it, I whisper, “Don’t say no.”
There’s a beat of silence. Two. Three. And then she says the sweetest word I’ve ever heard.
“Okay.”

Embryo 3: Raney & Levine by J.A. Schneider-a review

About the book:Release Date February 14, 2014

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/

Embryo 3Another doctors-&-cops adrenalin-packed thriller: First, tension enters Jill’s & David’s relationship over what to do about newborn Jesse. They both love him, but David feels that he’d be safer adopted anonymously. Suddenly their stress turns to horror when they discover that a murderous religious zealot is after both Jesse – whom he calls “devil spawn” – and Jill & David’s hospital which he calls “the devil’s workshop which must be destroyed!” This time, the whole hospital is threatened… Jill and David join forces with the police in a terrifying race to track down a killer, and to prevent an unthinkable catastrophe.

Review:

Dr. Jill Raney & Dr. David Levine just can’t catch a break…………. As they try to decide what would be best for baby Jesse, murder surrounds them again. Someone is targeting pregnant women who have sought infertility treatment at the world renowned hospital where they work. It doesn’t take long for them, and the police with whom they’ve become all too familiar with, to figure out that a psychotic, religious fanatic is not happy with the work being performed at the hospital. And, once they figure out that Jesse is also a target, they both agree that no one else could love and care for him as they could.

As they start the process of trying to figure out whom this crazy person is targeting their patients, they soon figure out that they too are in the crosshairs, as well as their hospital. And as they’ve proved in the previous stories, they will do anything to keep the ones they love safe. But, as terror grips the city, will Jill and David be able to figure out who is behind all of the craziness and keep themselves safe as well? Well my friends, you’ll just have to read and find out!

Embryo 4: Catch Me by J.A. Schneider-a review

About the book: Release Date September 8, 2014

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/

Embryo 4A terrifying serial killer who just targets couples, and leaves taunting notes for the NYPD signed CATCH ME… At a loss, police request the help of doctors Jill Raney and David Levine, police friends and detectives on their own. Both have helped when cops’ hands are tied, or in ways that even police forensics never imagined.

But this killer, a sharp shooter, is always a step ahead. He wears gloves and disguises, shoots victim pairs at random with an unregistered gun, and leaves no physical evidence or eyewitnesses. He’s enraged to hear that David is also a crack shot, and intrigued with the couple’s adopted little son, Jesse, almost one year old, dubbed by the media “the miracle baby,” and already showing signs that he is as intuitive as his mother…

The killer draws closer, gripping New York City and the entire nation in horror, pulling Jill and David into the worst terror they have yet encountered.

Review:

Catch Me begins with a horrific attack in Central Park, as there is a serial killer on the loose, one who is targeting couples. Even though his past targets had both been killed, only one was fatally wounded in this particular attack. Beth, a veteran who was pregnant, survived the attack, as did her little boy, Ricky. Once she is taken to the hospital, Jill and David get involved with the case. They are becoming all too comfortable with things like this and working with the police, with whom they’ve become friends.

The killing escalates quickly and David is soon contacted by the killer who taunts him with “catch me”. They soon realize that the killer is insinuating himself into situations where he mingles with some of the doctors and nurses, which puts everyone on edge.

The anticipation surrounding Jesse’s first birthday has everyone abuzz as well. But as they prepare for Jesse’s party and presentation, for lack of a better word (there will be press and medical types there to see his progress), and the killing escalates, tensions rise. They’ve figured out that he has killed everyone he’s targeted, except for Beth. Is this someone out to torment her, or did he make a mistake? And, as David and Jill are drawn deeper into the intrigue, they question everything. Will Jesse’s big day go off without a hitch? Or, will the catch me killer see his demented fantasies come true? I hate to say it again, but, you’ll have to read to find out!

••••••••••••••••••

J.A. Schneider does a masterful job with her characters stories. As I’ve said before about her books, they start with the first word. She doesn’t go off on tangents that don’t pertain to a specific character or plot point. She simply tells their stories. Not that the stories are simple at all! There is intrigue and suspense weaved into the life and death story that she tells in each book. Her characters are totally relatable, but I will say that the bad guys in these last two books blurred a bit for me. Even though they had different “triggers”, they were awfully similar. I love that we’re getting to see Jesse’s progress as well and the bond that is developing between he and his mom and dad. The cast of supporting characters are great as well. (And, I’m glad to see that the book covers are progressing as this series evolves.) If you love medical drama and suspenseful thrillers, these are definitely for you! I look forward to the next installment……

Description:

She is a daughter of the sun, one who is able to lead a soul back through the darkness and into the light. Her talent is to spread light amongst her people and in extreme cases to Elves who have lost their way. With the rescue of Garoldth’s brother, Golradir her powers have never been needed more for his treatment at the hands of the Demons over the millennium have left him scarred both mentally and physically.

Golradir would have been King instead of Garoldth if he hadn’t been captured by Demons. He has been held captive for over fifteen hundred years, during that time he was tortured mercilessly and now that he is free he only wants to be left alone to die in peace. It is not that simple in the Elven world though, and especially when the one person who can help heal both his body and his soul is his Life Mate. Will he let her? Or will he allow the darkness planted in the deepest recess of his soul swallow them both?

Review:

Luthien’s Song by M.A. Abraham is the 7th book in her Elven Chronicles series. For those who may not know about this series, it is a fun fantasy storyline about Elves, with some wonderful delightful characters that make you laugh, even in the midst of tense action. Luthien’s Song picks up after King’s Daughter left off. Golradir, is in horrible condition, after being abused for over a thousand years at the hands of the demons. The elves who rescued him bring him to Daroth to put together a team of the top known healers in the Elven lands, to handle the horrific task of trying to rebuild Golradir’s body from head to toes.

Luthien is a daughter of the sun, who has the ability (mostly kept secret) of healing ones soul, in the hope of bringing them back from the deepest dark depths to the light. When Luthien comes at the call from Daroth, she recognizes right away that the man (or whatever is left of him) lying in front of her is her lifemate. Golradir has buried himself deeply in his mind, where he found protection from the horrors done to him by the demons. Though he senses comfort, as Luthien enters his mind, and brings him to a peaceful place, he fears it is another trick by the demons.

I found this to be an amazing story, as M.A Abraham gave us a look at the healing powers of the Elves, many of whom have had their own stories (Eden, Haylo, Tamarak, Eol, Lothariel, etc), and some new healers we meet in this story. We watch at every step the healing done by the team of men and women working together to bring back a former king. What was so amazing was that Abraham made everything so real, detailing all that was done to this poor man and made us feel like we too were participating in the effort by all the Elves.

Luthien gave so much of herself to lessen Golradir’s pain by taking some of it, while she offered him her love in their private place in his mind. After time has passed, when Golradir became conscious, much to Luthien’s dismay, he rebuffed her love, because he feared he was tainted.

The recovery of Golradir will take three years, as we follow it all. The demons are still around and have set their sights on Luthien, who is a powerful elf that they want.

What follows is an exciting adventure to save Luthien, with all of our favorites trekking back to Demon land to find her. Golradir is now able to help; he knows he must save his lifemate from the fate he suffered, and he also wants revenge. Luthien’s Song is also a very nice romance that slowly builds.

Luthien’s Song is a poignant and passionate story of destructive evil, heartbreak, and the healing power of love. This book will pull on your emotions throughout, as M.A. Abraham has outdone herself with this amazing story. Well done!!
