Description:
He’s every fantasy she’s ever had…

Betsy Mouton knows that easy doesn’t last forever. She’s working her butt off to launch the Last Call Café so her family can leave the New Orleans bar business—and its heartaches—behind forever. That is, until the hottest one-night-stand of her life shows up next door, twice as uncompromising and two million times hotter, offering to buy the bar and send the Moutons to Easy Street.

Hotelier Quinton James has never forgotten the unbelievably hot night he and Betsy shared. Never forgotten how beautifully she submitted to him, or how he found the only peace he’s ever known in her arms. Now that Betsy is the only thing standing in the way of his new hotel, she’s the one in control. But there’s more at stake than her café or laying their past to rest—Quin wants a future. With her. All he has to do is convince her…one sensual command at a time.

Review:

Make Me,Take Me is the third installment in Amanda Usen’s Hot Nights Series. I would have to say she correctly named this series because this is one hot read. I highly suggest you keep a glass of ice chips, or ice water within reach when you read this one.

I’ve never read anything by Amanda Usen before and I can safely say I will more then likely go back at some point when I have the time to read the other books in this series. Make Me, Take Me is a quick read, but it’s filled with intense emotions, hot sex, vulnerability, trust issues, learning to hope, and finally realizing it’s okay to take the chance and open oneself up to the possibility of love and have your fairy tale ending. How Ms. Usen managed to fit that all into this story is beyond me, but it worked and had me glued to my seat reading this one to the very end. Even though it’s a quick read, the story has a natural flow to it that allows the reader to sink into the story and really get to know and understand the hero and heroine in this one. Betsy and Quin are well written characters and have many layers to them that Amanda peels away as the story progresses. We get to see the why’s and how’s of who they are, what shaped the person they are today, and where they are headed if they just give themselves and their feelings for one another a chance.

At times I did get annoyed with Betsy over how she kept trying to keep Quin at arms length and keep it all about a sexual relationship. Even though things were changing between them and she could slowly see it, she kept rationalizing everything to death where Quin was concerned, but on the other hand, we can see why she’s doing it. That part of her character kept driving me nuts and I just wanted to shake her and tell her to wake up and take the chance with him.

Quin, what can I say, he’s a player, he’s rich, sexy, strong, and intelligent, but he has this vulnerability about him that he hides, until he meets Betsy and everything about his world changes. I absolutely loved his character. I loved watching him go from the rich, sexy playboy, to the charming, lovable and vulnerable man that he is when he’s with Betsy. His transformation is a slow and steady one and allows us to see how his past completely shaped him and his feelings towards love and letting people in until he meets Betsy. Both are perfect for each other and the last couple of chapters where they finally realize they’ve fallen for each other and allow themselves to be happy are beautiful and heart warming to read.

As for the hotness factor, yes I did tell you to keep a glass of ice water on hand and I’m not lying. Every time these two get together and get it on, it’s always hotter then the last time. I think Ms. Usen must have gone through many a pencil writing this one cause they all must have gone up in flames thanks to Betsy and Quin and their sexual chemisty. It just burned up the pages.

Like I said earlier, Make Me, Take Me is a quick read, but has many underlying factors in it that immerse the reader into Betsy and Quin’s world. They have an obvious chemistry from the get go that carries them through the entire story and keeps the reader involved from beginning to end. I really enjoyed this one and I think anyone who likes a good emotional, intense read filled with a hot romance will enjoy it too.

Until next time, happy reading. See you all in the New Year!

The Price of Honor

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 19, 2014

What price is a woman willing to pay to restore a man’s honor?

When her husband is falsely accused of treason and murdered, Isabelle de Caen vows to find those responsible and see justice done. Of royal descent, Isabelle is stunned when the king orders her hasty marriage to one of his favorites, a man she detests. To save herself from a fate too awful to contemplate, she disobeys the king’s edict and commits treason of her own to find the truth.

Childhood friend, Guy Poirier, an aristocrat in New France, has always loved Isabelle. When he discovers her hiding in his cabin aboard ship, he agrees to hide her from her fiancé and help her clear her husband’s name. It doesn’t take them long to realize there’s more at stake here than her husband’s murder. With the fate of the colony in their hands, can Isabelle and Guy prevent a war and find love in the new world?

•••••••••••••••••••

The Price of Honor is a historical romance set in the late 1600’s. It’s extremely interesting and is centered around France’s expansion to the colony of New France. For those of you unfamiliar with this term, like myself, that’s what is later named Canada (Quebec area).

Our heroine, Isabelle Gaudier, is a lovely young woman recently widowed. Her father has also just died and has been ordered by the King of France to marry a man she absolutely hates. Her cousin who lived with her family and resembles her greatly is to be shipped to New France as a bride for some soldier or settler there.

All this involves an intricate conspiracy which includes the murder of Pierre Gaudier (Izzy’s husband) and her father Comte de Caen (twelfth in line for the throne of France). A child of Isabelle’s could be in line to the throne…with the right executions. The intricacy that would make this work is astounding, but I’m quite sure is pretty accurate for the times. Additionally, in the conspiracy are some members of the French West India Company involved in trade in New France.

Our hero is a childhood friend of Isabelle’s, although she doesn’t recognize him immediately, Seigneur Guy Poirier. Handsome, a friend of her husbands, and still in love with her from childhood.

Those are the people, or most of them, involved. How she escapes marriage to a monster, and she, her cousin Sophie, and Guy all end up on a ship to New France is a well written and planned tale of ingenuity and daring. Along with this is the voyage itself, overcoming spies, plots within plots and the saving of New France.

This is an exciting well written story with descriptive and historically based information. It’s very hard, almost impossible, to put down. So, of course, I didn’t! Ms. Matthews is a very talented author with a marvelous gifted ability in storytelling. Do yourself a solid and pick this one up. Enjoy everyone, I did and hope she does more just like this.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 2, 2014

When Gavin of Ashgrove and his closest friend are captured in a fierce battle during the Hundred Years’ War, their captors demand a hefty ransom from their fathers for their return. Robert is quickly set free, but Gavin’s father refuses to pay for his son’s release, leaving him to rot in a squalid French prison. Aided by a sympathetic priest, he escapes and returns home to England, only to find he has been proclaimed a bastard and disinherited.

With nowhere to turn Gavin journeys to Kentwood, where he fostered as a boy, hoping Lord Aldred will take him on as a knight in his guard. The old warrior is close to death, but he soon realizes Gavin is his son. Aldred plots to have Gavin inherit Kentwood and marry his much younger wife, Elizabeth, a famed and opinionated beauty who remains a virgin after a decade of marriage.

Will the king recognize Lord Aldred’s first request of a marriage between Elizabeth and Robert, uniting Robert’s estate with Kentwood—or will the temperamental Edward reward Aldred’s years of service and honor a dying man’s final request?

•••••••••••••••••••••

A Bit of Heaven on Earth is a historical romance fiction by Lauren Linwood. It’s an intricate story of life in that era for women and the trials they had of living life as property of men with no thought to their feelings. However, this is one of finding and attaining true love.

The heroine of this story is the lovely Elizabeth of Aldwyn, a young head-strong woman-child. She’s a bit of an untamed shrew. She’s had many suitors, but doesn’t like the thought of a man or marriage and spurns or embarrasses them until they leave. Her father is at his wits end to get her married and out of his hair. He drugs her and delivers her to be married to an older nobleman whose latest wife has died. She wakes to find herself away from home and must get married.

She becomes resolved, but finds that her husband Aldred of Kentwood. Her wedding night her new husband fails to be able to perform his marital duties, and gently tells her he’ll have the marriage annulled and she can return home. She strikes a bargain with him, she stays his wife and he teaches her to read and write, to keep account of Kentwood, and anything else she needs to know to be able to help him run the estate. He gets to keep his pride and she will take care of him to the end of his days. They actually learn to care for each other and all goes more than just well for over ten years.

The hero and love interest is Gavin of Ashgrove. Gavin is off fighting the French with his King’s son when his mother dies badly, When he finally escapes prison and returns home, he finds his mother dead, his father remarried and lets him know his mother confessed on her deathbed that he is not the son of the Lord of Ashgrove.
Not having a home he goes to the man who raised or fostered him and taught him everything he knows to ask for a place in his guard or help getting into the King’s guard. This man is Aldred of Kentwood.

Okay, that’s the really intricate setup. Getting to this point was a good part of the story and the details of how this was all accomplished is something that needs to be read to be felt and understood. It’s well written, with good dialogue and descriptive scenes. There is so much more involved than these two people, but for purpose of the review, I’d rather you got the privilege of reading Ms. Linwood’s words, not mine.

It’s a quick read, only a little over two hundred pages and well worth the time investment. A perfect read for a snowy winter’s day or evening. Suffice it to say the road to true love and happiness is twisty with many ups and downs to keep you turning pages.

Do yourself a favor and give this a read. It’ll curl your toes with sizzling heat and heartache as the lovers travel toward an HEA! Enjoy everyone, I truly did.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 28, 2014

Just call her Christmas Eve…
Eve Harmon has always enjoyed Christmas, but this year it reminds her of everything she doesn’t have. Almost all her friends are married now, and that’s what Eve wants, too. Love. A husband and kids of her own. But the B and B she manages, and even Whiskey Creek, the small Gold Country town where she was born and raised, suddenly seem…confining.

Eve’s worried that her future will simply be a reflection of her past. There’s no one in the area she could even imagine as a husband—until a handsome stranger comes to town. Eve’s definitely attracted to him, and he seems to have the same reaction to her. But his darkly mysterious past could ruin Eve’s happily ever after—just when it finally seems within reach. And just when she’s counting on the best Christmas of her life!

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS is the seventh installment in Brenda Novak’s adult, contemporary Whiskey Creek romance series focusing on the men and women of Whiskey Creek-a small gold mining town in California. This is Little Mary’s B&B proprietor Eve Harmon and Rex (Brent) Taylor’s storyline. Although THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS is the seventh installment in the Whiskey Creek series it can be read as a stand alone with little difficulty. There are several continuing plot points from previous stories that will overlap in The Heart of Christmas.

Told from two close third person points of view, THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS focuses on Whiskey Creek resident Eve Harmon. Waking up to a stranger in her bed, on the morning of her thirty fifth birthday, Eve is desperate to remember what happened the night before. But the handsome man isn’t talking; he is apparently a guest at Little Mary’s B&B; and he keeps his secrets and history to himself. As Eve struggles with the embarrassment of her one-night stand, her friends begin to gather some background information about the man whose secretive history becomes more mysterious and darker as the storyline builds.

Rex (Brent) Taylor is a stranger to Whiskey Creek. He is a man with a secreted past-a past that will bring some major trouble to the small, sleepy Gold Country town in California. He knows his time with Eve is limited to the Christmas holidays and he places an expiration date on their friendship and sex. The sex between Brent and Eve is passionate, addictive and arousing, and Brent is having a difficult time letting go.

THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS is an ensemble storyline where many of the previous storyline couples and characters play a supporting and secondary role including Cheyenne and Dylan (Whiskey Creek #2) and Eve’s ex boyfriend Ted Dixon and Sophia DeBussi (Whiskey Creek #5). There are two additional side stories that detract somewhat from the main premise—Eve’s ex boyfriend Ted is a writer who continues to investigate the decades old murder of Little Mary (one of the original residents of the house) and the subsequent haunting at the B&B. He is also determined to uncover the truth behind Brent’s hidden past because almost everything Brent has revealed to Eve has been a lie. Eve has been a regular throughout the series and has an established friendship and history with most of the storyline characters. She is desperate to find love, start a family and live life with a happily ever after. Then there is Cheyenne and Dylan’s continuing story-one whose family will grow with the addition of a new baby-one whose inception and conception are questionable and fuel for a future, storyline heartbreak.

Brenda Novak’s Whiskey Creek series is an intimate look at friendships, family, falling in love and letting go. The characters are passionate, emotional and intense; their unwavering support for one another adds moments of anguish, heartbreak, color and acceptance. THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS concludes with a happily ever after for now but there is nothing immediately permanent about the relationship between Eve and Brent-one based upon a lie and a drunken one-night stand.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date: December 9, 2014

Watch Me…The first book in New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cynthia Eden’s sexy new romantic suspense series…DARK OBSESSION.

He was hired to protect her.

Watching gorgeous Gwen Hawthorne wasn’t a hard job—but it certainly was tempting. Chance Valentine had tried to keep his distance from the sexy socialite for years, but when her father hired him to keep watch on her—as a twenty-four, seven bodyguard—Chance knew his control was about to be pushed to the limit.

He’d never wanted another woman the way he desired her. Hot. Intense. Consuming. Being so close to Gwen, Chance knew that he wouldn’t be able to resist her. So he gave into his need, her need, and he took them both to the edge of a dark and consuming desire.

But Chance soon realizes that he isn’t the only one watching Gwen. Someone else is out there, a stalker who won’t rest until Gwen is destroyed. Every day, every moment…Gwen is in danger. And Chance knows that if he can’t unmask the stalker, then he may just lose the only woman he has ever loved.

3. Need Me – February 2015 release

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: WATCH ME is the first book in Cynthia Eden’s adult, contemporary Dark Obsession romantic suspense series. This is security expert Chance Valentine and Gwen Hawthorne’s storyline-a second chance at love for two people who have never stopped loving one another.

The premise finds Gwen’s wealthy father (Will Hawthorne) hiring his former bodyguard Chance Valentine, and Chance’s elite security agency VJS Protection to guard and watch over his daughter. VJS Security specializes in high end protection where anonymity and secrecy is guaranteed. Gwen has a stalker-a former boyfriend who has a history of obsession-and a man who is willing to do anything to protect the woman he had once hoped to marry. But things go from bad to worse when the threats against Gwen become violent and the danger begins to point in another direction. A restraining order does not appear to be working and the danger is coming from an unknown source.

The relationship between Chance and Gwen is one of second chances. There is no denying their attraction to one another and, in this, Gwen’s father makes use of Chance’s feelings towards the woman that he has never forgotten. Chance was once employed as Will Hawthorne’s bodyguard and dating the boss’s daughter was completely out of the question. Gwen tries to keep her distance but circumstances find the couple together 24/7. The sex scenes are intimate and seductive.

The supporting and secondary characters include Chance’s security team partners Lex Jenson and tech expert Devlin Shade; and Detective Faith Chestang who has an unknown but interesting connection to Gwen’s father Will. We will be introduced to Gwen’s former boyfriend Ethan Barclay and his sometimes bodyguard Daniel Duvato-two men who continue to frighten Gwen with every encounter; and Sophie Sarantos, Ethan’s lawyer and childhood friend whose story will be told in the January 2015 installment WANT ME. The ensemble cast of characters and VJS Security are the building blocks for Cynthia’s Dark Obsession series and sets up the next storyline installment.

WATCH ME is a short story; a romantic, suspense filled, fast paced novella that introduces the partners at VJS Security and the people and friends with whom the agency will come in contact. The storyline is quick to build; the character history and background information is interspersed throughout the story allowing for a smooth transition between past and present. I wish there was a little more information about the partnership between Chance, Lex and Devlin (VJS Security) but perhaps more information about the connection will be revealed in Lex and Devlin’s storylines.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 17, 2014

Experience the vampire world for the holidays through the eyes of Gigi Scanlon in this e-novella prequel to The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire from beloved paranormal romance author Molly Harper!

College co-ed Gigi is headed home to Half-Moon Hollow for her first Christmas since her sister, Iris, was turned into a vampire by her beloved undead husband, Cal. Iris is working overtime to make this holiday as normal and special as possible. After all, it’s taken her months of working with Jane Jameson and the Hollow’s vampires to convince herself that she won’t bite her baby sister on sight.

Gigi has her own worries. She’s falling out of love with her high school sweetheart, Ben, and has no idea how to tell him. She’s got a secret job interview with terrifying teen Council official, Ophelia Lambert. And there’s a handsome but cagey vampire following her around town and then disappearing before Gigi can confirm that he’s not, in fact, a figment of her fertile imagination. Holidays with family are complicated. Christmas with an undead family can be downright dangerous.

•••••••••••

Well, seeing as how the blurb hits all of the plot highlights of the book, I’m going to tell you why you should read Molly Harper. Her books are fun and quirky and very well written. The Half-Moon Hollow “crew” is a motley one. The characters are totally loveable, even the ones you don’t want to love. When Gigi finally arrives home, the mayhem that ensues will make you laugh and make your heart smile. Even though you have vampires, humans and weres in the mix, the one thing that always rings true in this series is the sense of family and camaraderie. They truly care for each other and want to keep everyone safe. And, for vampire purists (snobs!), this bunch can’t eat food, nor can they be in the sunlight, which in itself, is pretty funny in the way that they handle it. If they eat? Projectile vomit……. If they are exposed to sunlight? Yep, you guessed it. They’ll catch fire.

I’m Dreaming of an Undead Christmas centers around Iris wanting to keep the Christmas traditions she and her sister, Gigi, have had all of their lives. Does it go exactly as planned? Well, of course not. However, they do enjoy the huge “family” gathering and decide that this is their new normal and make new traditions. This is a very quick read, and is obviously setting up the next book for Gigi. And, I can’t wait to find out more about the mysterious vampire who keeps popping in on Gigi, and neither can she! Ha! If you’re looking for a fun series with characters who will make you laugh out loud and make your heart smile, this one is for you. Well done, Molly Harper, very well done.

Passion always comes with a price…

•••••••••••

HOT BLOODED Part 1 is the first installment in Donna Grant’s adult, contemporary, Dark Kings paranormal romance serial. This is Dragon King Laith and photographer Iona Campbell’s storyline one that introduces a little more about the neighboring land and family bordering on Dreagan Estates.

Upon her return, the truth about Dreagan and the Dragon Kings will have to be revealed because it is only a Campbell heir who is privileged with the secret about Dragons.

We are introduced to Laith, a Dragon King and proprietor of the local watering hole known as The Fox and The Hound pub. Laith and Iona’s attraction to one another is mutual-they both feel the pull but Iona believes herself to be not of the marrying or relationship kind.

Several of the Dragon Kings are present including the King of the Dragons Constantine, Tristan and Sammi as well as Kellan, Ryder, Rhys, Warrick and Hal. The Light Fae Rhi will make an appearance but her current status is questionable and she is unwilling to stick around to be examined more closely.

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble /

The passion—and peril—reaches the boiling point in HOT BLOODED: Part III, the third installment of this exclusive Dark Kings e-serial from New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant.

She smiled and stood before diving into the water. Laith walked to the pool. The rumble of the waterfall was drowned out by the roar of his desire. Every instinct within him demanded he claim her, that he mark her as his. Mate, a voice whispered in his head.

A DANGEROUS LOVE. Danger is closing in while desire pushes Laith and Iona into deeper waters. Body and soul hang in the balance for the two lovers. Nothing will ever be the same.

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: HOT BLOODED part 3 reveals a plethora of information about the Dragon King history, The Warriors and the Druids, as well as recounting some of the previous storylines premises. While Laith recounts the events that led to Ulrik’s loss of power, Iona will learn first hand that there is more to discover about the world of the supernatural.

The relationship between Laith and Iona steps to the next level. Laith believes that Iona may be his mate but Dragon King Con gives warning that the human female cannot always be trusted-for it was a human female that betrayed the Dragons –thousand of years earlier.

The storyline continues to reveal more about Rhys but we are still no closer to the truth about what has happened and who is responsible for the attack that has left the Dragon King in pain and unable to completely shift. Hopefully, his attraction to Lily, is the beginning of something much bigger.
