ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 6, 2015

Wyatt Banks is ready to give one woman the world. Unfortunately, his job as a cop tends to interfere with other goals. When Wyatt is sent deep undercover to investigate a sex slave ring, he doesn’t have time to do anything but focus on staying alive in a dark and dangerous underworld.

Wyatt isn’t alone though in his quest to save the women that are being sold into sexual slavery.

His partner, FBI Agent Andrea Somerville, is immersed just as deeply as he is, and she’s the bait to lure the sex slavers out into the open, as she poses as an erotic dancer in an attempt to snare the enemy. But danger runs as high as the sparks between them, and now Wyatt is caught between the job he loves and the woman he wants.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: 4.5 stars–WITH A TWIST is the fourth installment in Sawyer Bennett’s adult, contemporary Last Call erotic romance series focusing on a tight knit group of family and friends in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This is undercover police officer Wyatt Banks and FBI Agent Andrea Somerville’s storyline. When both are assigned to work the same sex slave case, it takes everything in Wyatt not to step out of his comfort zone and protect the woman with whom he will fall in love. The storyline advances the series several months and can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Wyatt and Andrea) the focus of the storyline is two fold: First, the undercover sting operation at The Platinum Club in Raleigh, North Carolina where a number of dancers and prostitutes have gone missing and presumed to have been abducted for a human trafficking ring; Secondly, the building relationship between Wyatt and Andrea-two agents whose lives will become forever intertwined when they are forced into a relationship not of their choosing. When Andrea is tagged as the next dancer to be sold into slavery, Wyatt knows it is time to step up the game and bring the operation to a close.

The relationship between Andrea and Wyatt begins acrimoniously. Wyatt isn’t sure if Andrea will be suited to the job and continues to push Andrea’s buttons at every opportunity. What ensues is Wyatt’s need to protect Andrea from the people in charge and his fall into the abyss when they must both cross a line of no return. The first half of the novel focuses on the undercover operation and the second half follows the building relationship of friendship and love. The sex scenes are erotic, emotional, breathtaking and provocative.

The secondary and supporting characters include all of the previous storyline couples as well as the people involved at The Platinum Club and in the undercover sting. We will be introduced to Wyatt’s extended family, his sisters and their loves.

The world building continues with the inclusion of the gang at Last Call- Hunter Markham’s restaurant and bar where friends and family settle at the end of the day to discuss life, love and the future. We get a glimpse at each of the previous storyline couples, their growing families and the possibility of new loves on the horizon. There are moments of action, suspense, romance and love in a storyline where the uglier side of life takes center stage in a world of desperate women and illicit sex.

Sawyer Bennett adds another intimate, captivating and intense storyline to her remarkable Last Call erotic, romance series. The first half of the book was full of intrigue, suspense and action while the second half focused on the chemistry and building love between Wyatt and Andrea. There were moments of concern and trepidation when Andrea looked to her future but the support of a man who was willing to give up everything for the woman he loves proved to be a stronger pull than she could have ever hoped.

The Importance of Being Alice

Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / The Book Depository / BAM

Description:
Nothing about Alice Wood’s life is normal right now. Her fiancé, Patrick, called off their wedding and relationship only days before their nonrefundable wedding trip. And though a luxurious European river cruise for one is just what she needs, it’s not what she gets…

Due to a horrible misunderstanding, Alice is now cramped in her “romantic” suite with one of Patrick’s friends. Instead of cruising along the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers sipping champagne with the love of her life, she’s navigating the waters with a strange—yet mysteriously handsome—British aristocrat.

An author, Elliot is just looking for some alone time to write. But his stodgy, serious self is about to be sidetracked by a woman who seems to have jumped out of the pages of a fairy tale, one who is determined to shake up his life…and include him in her own happily ever after.

Review:

The Importance of Being Alice by Katie MacAlister is the 1st book in her new Ainslie Brothers series. When I decided to read this book, I had thought this would be a contemporary romance. However, even though it is in current times, it does have the feel of most historical romances.

Our heroine, Alice Wood, makes a decision after her fiancée calls off the wedding days before. They had bought tickets to a European cruise, and even though the wedding was off, Alice decides to go on her own in the last minute.

We meet our hero, Elliot Ainslie, an British aristocrat, who is also a writer of Spy stories. Elliot writes to bring in money that is needed to keep up the family mansion expenses, renovate, and pay his siblings. With all his interruptions, Elliot needs alone time to write, and when his friend, Patrick offers him the chance to go on a cruise, he jumps at the opportunity to use this for his needed private time.   We all know what happens with best laid plans.

When Alice arrives at her cabin on the cruise ship, she meets her unexpected roommate, Elliot. Both do everything they can to force the other one to leave, but with no other rooms were available. They have no choice but to share the room, and allow each to go their own way. It doesn’t take too long for that to totally change. Elliot is somewhat stuffy, but he is determined to write. Alice is not your typical young lady, who is coming off of a heartbroken experience; she is determined to have fun. Alice is not only is very pretty, she has a very bubbly, quirky, and outgoing personality. It is fun to watch her use her wiles on Elliot to draw him out, and shortly he cannot resist the woman who talks constantly, with witty comments that make him laugh.

What follows is a fun, sweet, humorous romance that will have you laughing quite a few times. Elliot and Alice made a great couple, and we started rooting for them early on. There were complications, such as her ex trying to woo her back, a female passenger determined to get Elliot for herself; not to mention Elliot’s weird, but fun family always calling him to solve problems, and a mystery that was exciting nearer to the end.

Though I did enjoy the story, I did have somewhat mixed feelings. I thought some of the scenes in the story were a little far-fetched, even if humorous; a few times I found myself annoyed. But overall it was a fun story, nice couple, and an interesting family that will make me want to find out more. If you like a romance that is humorous, quirky, sexy, then this book is perfect for you.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 5, 2015

Famed artist, Maxfield Caswell is missing.

Three of his major paintings have been savagely defaced and his house left in ruins. As his friends search for him, does his muse, Ava, hold the key?

Before the hope of love is lost, secrets will be told, spirits will be broken, and a price will be paid.

From the cave dwellings of New Mexico to the shores of Malibu, Max and Ava’s journey tests them to their limits. As they render passion and pain in broad strokes, will their all-consuming love rise from the debris?

••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE UNVEILING is the second installment in Ruth Clampett’s contemporary, adult Work of Art romance series focusing on tormented and troubled artist Maxfield Caswell and his muse Ava Jacobs. The continuing story focuses on Max’s spiral out of control and Ava’s need to save the man with whom she has fallen in love. The Unveiling should not be read as a stand alone due to the nature of the series format and the information imparted in each successive installment.

Told from first person point of view (Ava) THE UNVEILING is a passionate, edgy and revealing look at the dark side of fame and one man’s struggle with mental instability, mistrust and emotional breakdown. Maxfield Caswell is a man whose need for one woman overrides all sense of responsibility and trust; he is a man doomed to destroy the woman that he loves through betrayal, heartbreak and fear. Unable to accept Ava’s love at face value, Max continues to push Ava at every opportunity; his apprehension, issues of trust and anxiety, and overwhelming obsession for Ava find Max and Ava at crossroads towards the future.

Max is a man whose responses to everything are extreme: from jealousy, depression, hopelessness and obsession Max’s continued fall into the abyss finds the man with thoughts of betrayal and mistrust, resentment and patterns of behavior that scream ‘warning’ with every encounter. As Ava’s success continues to climb, Max’s demons will grow stronger until he may have pushed away the woman that he loves. He is vulnerable to suggestion; continues to push at personal boundaries; and is unable to accept the truth. Jealousy runs rampant in Max’s obsessive world.

Ruth Clampett’s intense and passionate WORK OF ART series focuses on a man whose psychological and emotional behavior are not only personally destructive but professionally as well. While many artists are brooding and angst ridden there is a fine line between professional behavior and psychological nightmare; in this, Maxfield Caswell is a man who has lost all control of his emotional well being.

The supporting and secondary characters drive a good portion of the storyline as they focus their attention on Ava and the destructive nature of her relationship with Max. The world building continues to focus on Ava’s rising success as a writer; Max’s need and obsession with Ava; and the behind the scenes negotiations in the business of art. The sex scenes are intimate, provocative and sensual. There is no denying that Max loves Ava but it is the obsessive nature of that love that leads to questions of sanity and emotional stability.

Excerpt

On the way to my car, he stops me. “Ava, I need to say something.”
“Yes?”
He pauses on the walkway, looks down and kicks a pebble toward
the lawn.
“I know that as much I’d like to…I can’t ask you not to see
Jonathan…”
What? I glance up at him with my head tipped to the side.
He’s twisting his hands together as I wait for him to continue. He
finally looks me square in the eyes.
“…But, will you do me a favor? Don’t fall in love with him.”
I arch my brow. “Did you really just ask me that?” Should I tell him
there’s little to no chance of my falling in love with Jonathan now?
He gets a devilish look in his eyes as he holds up his hands in surrender.
“I know, I know…I just don’t want you to get involved with
him on the rebound.”
I put my hands on my hips and arch my brow. “Max, to be on the
rebound you have to have been in a relationship to rebound from.”
He seems to ignore my logic. “Besides, Ava, you could still be really
attracted to me and not know it.”
“Really? I don’t think my attraction to you is in question.”
“Yeah, what if you’re secretly falling in love with me?”
I playfully push him on the shoulder. “You wish!” I tease.
“There’s only one way to know for sure. Don’t you think you should
know before you go out with Jonathan again?”
“One way to know for sure?”
“Yes. Kiss me. I promise I won’t touch you—look, hands free!” He
tucks his hands into his back pockets.
My mouth falls open as I press my thighs together. Just the idea of
being kissed again by Max makes me instantly hot and bothered.
“Just one little kiss,” he says in a low voice.
I can’t believe he’s playing this game with me. But the fire in his eyes
and the sweet smile on his face are more than I can bear. I take a step
toward him. Two can play this game.
“So, if I feel nothing, we’ll agree to be friends—that’s it—no complications.
And I can friggin’ marry Jonathan if I so choose.”
He makes a sour face, but nods anyway.
I bite my lip as I look into his eyes. One kiss, one kiss…I close my
eyes as I edge closer until I can feel the heat shimmering from his skin.
“Oh, Ava,” he whispers, a deep longing in his voice.
His breath on my cheek undoes me, and when our lips meet, they
meld together as if they’d just kissed a moment earlier. We kiss languidly,
sensuously, our tongues meeting in an erotic dance. He gently
bites my bottom lip before I press my lips even harder against his. An
overwhelming current suddenly surges through me, practically knocking
me over.
Oh my God! I’m on fire. I run one of my hands along his shoulder
and behind his neck, pulling him closer, while winding my other hand
into his hair and tugging it passionately. Our bodies are pressed together
so tightly I feel as if I’m one with him.
He moans my name over and over as the kiss intensifies. I’m lost in
his sweet mouth, his lips turning me into a traitor to logic and reason.
When I finally pull away to gasp for air, he grins widely, and the
bright-eyed expression on his face is victorious. He gambled big and
won.
Like there was ever a question—he owns me. He probably has all
along; it’s just taken me all this time to figure it out.
He studies me with a spark in his eyes, and he takes a sharp breath.
He takes his hands out of his pockets as if to grab me and never let me
go. My heart’s so full I can’t help but shine with a smile.
I remember we’re taking things slow, so without a word, I hurry to
my car before he can say something to draw me back into his arms. But
even as I flee the charged atmosphere and speed down PCH, I can feel
his joy follow me all the way home.

Section 8 series – Book #3
by Stephanie Tyler
Release Date: January 6, 2015

FragmentedAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / The Book Depository / BAM

Description:
WHEN THE RISKS ARE THIS GREAT…

When Dr. Drea Timmons was kidnapped during Section 8’s last mission, Jem did everything in his power to rescue the woman he’d fallen for—a woman unwillingly recruited for one of S8’s most personal and dangerous covert operations. Drea survived, but at a price. The trauma of her capture has rendered her without a single memory of her ordeal—or any recollection of how violently unpredictable her ex-boyfriend, Danny, an Outlaw Angel, had become, or why she had left him.

IS TRUST EVEN AN OPTION?

When Danny threatens to turn Drea over to the feds, she is forced to go on the run and confront a past that is as deadly as her future. As trouble closes in on both ends, Drea has no choice but to trust Jem, the only man who can help her, the only man whose electrifying touch brings back memories—piece by piece—too stirring to forget

Review:

Fragmented by Stephanie Tyler is the 3rd book in her Section 8 series. It is difficult to write a review without some background, and possible spoilers of previous books. Please be aware that the start of Fragmented details heavily with the cliffhanger from the previous book, Unbreakable.

When we last left off in Unbreakable, Drea had lost her memory. Drea is a doctor, who was kidnapped by Jem, a Section 8 operative and brought to Section 8 to save Avery, our heroine in that book.  By the time the book ended, Drea was happy to be part of the team, but after a covert mission failed, Drea did not remember Jem or the team.

Fragmented is Drea and Jem’s story, and we learn at the start that Drea has slowly begun to remember some things about Section 8, and the team.  Carolina, and the doctors have been working for months with Drea, and when she slowly begins to remember her feelings for Jem, he brings her back to Section 8 to protect her.

Danny, who is Drea ex-boyfriend, is the main villain in this story. Though she may not remember as much as she would like to, Drea knows how dangerous Danny is to her. Jem will do anything he can to protect Drea from Danny, the FBI and other agencies who threaten Drea. The Section 8 team all band together to help her, bringing in a new partner, who will help clear the way for the team to fight the bureaucracy and continue to do their covert rescue operations.

What follows is an exciting story, with Jem and the Section 8 team trying to save a young kidnapped girl, and at the same time protect Drea from Danny, his MC members, and the government officials working with him. The romance between Jem and Drea was hot, and it is their true feelings for each other that will bring Drea fully back to Section 8. I loved being able to see all of the team again.

I really enjoy this series by Stephanie Tyler, as she has created a wonderful group of characters that make up the Section 8 team. I will say that though Fragmented was a good story, it was in my opinion not as good as the two previous books. Drea and Jem were a great couple, and their chemistry was hot; but I suspect that my reasoning may have to do with the many flashbacks for Jem that slowed the story somewhat. However, with that being said, this was still a great book and series.

The forces that bind them can also tear them apart…

Zachary McKenna is a warrior shapeshifter from the Lion Clan, trying to catch a break in the sun and surf of Mexico. Mai Tais and scantily clad beach beauties are just what he needs after his last battle. But the fun doesn’t last long before a beautiful young woman is mugged on his doorstep and Zach is pulled right back into the fray.

Zach has no idea of the danger Annabelle has unwittingly brought to his doorstep, until he discovers that losing her will almost certainly destroy him.

•••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: UNBOUND is the latest installment and novella in Sara Humphreys’s adult, contemporary The Amoveo Legend paranormal romance series .

SOME BACKGROUND: The Amoveo are an ancient race of telepathic, dreamwalking shape shifters who hide their identity behind a human façade. If a male Amoveo has not found his mate by the time he has turned thirty, he will begin to lose his ‘animal other’ and live out the rest of his life as human. The Amoveo’s continued war with the Caedo family and the Purists finds the Amoveo seeking refuge at the Royal compound where shifters and their mates are protected from the outside world. This is Lion Clan shapeshifter Zachary McKenna and Annabelle’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ storyline.

Still in recovery from their recent battle with the Caedo family, twenty five year old Lion Clan shifter and guardian Zachary McKenna is in need of some R&R but dreams of what can only be described as his reluctant mate have Zachary hoping that the tales about Amoveo’s and their soul mates are untrue. Zachary is an Amoveo warrior and a man who loves many women, and in this he hopes to spend his down time in Mexico for a little sun and sex. What Zachary had never expected was to find his mate the victim of a robbery and a woman who hides her true identity and her past.

The attraction between Annabelle and Zachary is immediate. Our couple recognize one another from their dreams but Annabelle continues to keep Zachary at arm’s length. Annabelle has a secret; one that could harm her building relationship with Zachary, and in this Annabelle believes to keep Zachary safe, it is best if they separate for good. Zachary knows that Annabelle is his mate; their psychic connection is strong. Annabelle’s own powers are becoming stronger but she is a woman who refuses to accept the inevitable.

UNBOUND is a fast paced, erotic romance novella about two unlikely lovers that does not end on a happily ever after but a happily ever after-for now. The predominant focus of the storyline is Annabelle and Zachary’s building relationship, and the secret that Annabelle refuses to reveal. The reader is very much aware of Annabelle’s secret and the impending threat to the Amoveo, but it is Annabelle’s refusal to acknowledge the threat that places Zachary and the shape shifters in immediate danger. When the Caedo family track Zachary and Annabelle to Mexico, Annabelle will sacrifice herself to save the man with whom she has fallen in love. The secondary characters include a few of the previous storyline shifters as well as Annabelle’s father and controlling family.

The Amoveo Legend series is intense, provocative and emotional. The male shifter knows that his time is limited-without a mate, he will lose his ability to shift and spend his remaining years as a human male. There are moments of passion and staggering wonder in a world controlled by man-a world full of jealousy and hatred against a shapeshifting species whose only sin is to be different.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 6, 2015

Unlike the heroine of her popular thriller series, Georgia Delaune can’t afford to take risks or push sexual boundaries—unless you count spying through her neighbor’s bedroom window, and never missing a single move he makes.

Colby Wilkes is more than willing to put on a show for the alluring woman next door. But his dominant side aches to show her the pleasures of submission up close. As a counselor, Colby is sensitive to Georgia’s fears. As a Dom at The Ranch, a private BDSM retreat, he’s the perfect teacher to unleash her passion.

But just as Georgia lowers her emotional barriers, an unexpected complication arrives: a bad boy musician from Colby’s past who adds fuel to her heated imagination. Now, the lonely author has two gorgeous men eager to fulfill every fantasy she’s ever written—and one she’s never dared to dream…

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: NOTHING BETWEEN US is the latest full length installment in Roni Loren’s contemporary, adult Loving on the Edge erotic, romance series. This is Dominant Colby Wilkes, author Georgia Delaune and musician Adam Keats’s storyline- a BDSM love triangle where one woman will learn to let go with the two men in her life. NOTHING BETWEEN US can be read as a stand alone although there is some reference to previous storyline characters and the opening scene is taken from an earlier story.

Told from several alternating third person points of view NOTHING BETWEEN US focuses on three people: Dom Colby Wilkes-a part time high school counselor, and trainer at the local BDSM club The Ranch; Georgia Delaune-an author and shut in whose life has been put on hold by a stalker whose need to control forces Georgia into hiding to protect her life; and musician Adam Keats-a twenty three year old man and former student of Colby’s who finds himself the target of an ex girlfriend and her drug dealer, h*ll bent on revenge. Our trio will quickly become friends that will turn into something more when need and desire are fueled by proximity and trust.

Roni Loren continues her BDSM theme throughout the storyline but never crosses over into hard core territory. The partners are always aware, always willing and always honest when it comes to what they want and how far they will go. Each of the storyline players is facing a personal crisis-a past that refuses to let go- that could tip the balance of power and need, but in the end it is the support and love of one another where the emotional dynamics will come into play.

The sexual imagery is visually graphic with scenes of M/F, M/M and M/F/M. There are moments of domination and submission, followed by commitment and love. All three go into the relationship looking for something different but in the end it is love, trust and understanding that heightens the bonds of their ties and connection to one another.

The writing style is simple and easy to understand. There are no complicated or confusing scenarios; Georgia and Adam are both willing to risk their own happiness for the sake of the other but it is Colby, as the Dominant, who is not willing to risk either one. He understands that everyone needs time to accept the world and everything it has to offer, but he is not above helping to push his lovers in the right direction.

Roni Loren’s stories of domination and submission are intimate, provocative and emotional. There are moments of controversy, passionate declarations and dramatic reminders that not everything is right with the world but in the end there is hope for the future when love is the dominant factor between consenting adults and honorable friends.

Nor does he understand why he feels so compelled to help Amanda Banning and her daughter when a cold snap leaves them temporarily homeless. Review:

Silver Thaw by Catherine Anderson is the 1st book in her new Mystic Creek series. After finishing this book, I am totally hooked and look forward to more from Anderson and Mystic Creek. Silver Thaw was such an awesome story, with a little bit of everything..danger, suspense, small town atmosphere, family, abuse, adorable child, animals, love and romance. I could not put this book down; the further I got, the more I needed to know what was going to happen.

We meet our heroine Amanda Banning and her cute 6 year old daughter Chloe, right at the start. Amanda has only lived in Mystic Creek for a few months, working a part time job, but she barely is able to provide for the both of them, living in an old broken down cabin. We learn quickly that she is in hiding from an abusive husband, whom she ran away from. Every night, when Chloe is asleep, Amanda writes little wishful notes on a pink piece of paper and lets it blow away into the wind.

Jeb Sterling is our hero, and he has lived in Mystic Creek all his life. Jeb has a big house, where he lives alone with his dog, Bozo, a mastiff. While feeding the farm animals, he begins to see pink notes on his land. As he reads them, Jeb senses a woman who is in dire need, and she is running away from something. But he has no idea who the woman is.

That is until a terrible ice storm hits Mystic Creek. Jeb and many residents go out to the homes of the local seniors to see if they need help. He comes across on his last stop, the small cabin, and meets Amanda and Chloe. The house has lost power, they are freezing, and it is too dangerous for them to stay there. Jeb insists they come to his house until the storm is over, and despite her misgivings, Amanda agrees for one night. It doesn’t take long for Jeb to realize that this woman is the one who was writing those notes.

All of this is early on, and what follows is wonderful story that will grab you from the start and never let go until you have read the very last page. This is a sweet romance, that builds slowly, so nicely done. Amanda in not in any shape, physically or mentally to trust any man. But Jeb is such a great hero, as he was so sweet and kind to both Amanda and Chloe. He begins to fall for Amanda, and Chloe, as does Bozo. Jeb understands what Amanda has gone through and is very careful with her. It not only is a great romance, as he slowly tries to help her, but the last third of the book is very exciting. Just when Amanda begins to let her guard down, her horrific past will rear its ugly head.

I loved Jeb and Amanda together, how she began to know what true love was all about. I loved Chloe, as she was adorable, and at the same time, sad as she saw too much of the past. I do not want to give spoilers, but this is a must read. I loved every moment of it. Thank you, Catherine Anderson for this wonderful story, and I can’t wait to return to Mystic Creek.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The beautiful, angry Bell has revenge in her heart and Lander Gable in her sights. She’s seduced her way into his arms with the intent to destroy his wealthy family. But now that she’s there, lust and passion have begun squeezing out that desire for vengeance. It’s a dangerous game Bell is playing, and sex, mystery, and lies are the most intriguing game pieces of all.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••

For Adoncia Jimenez a.k.a Bellona Dantes, it’s about revenge. Her mother was not only wrongfully convicted and sent to jail but she died while in jail. Adoncia is after bringing down the ones responsible and to make things more interesting, why not make the murderers of Adoncia’s mother rich and powerful Edmund and Travis Gable? Don’t feel too bad for Adoncia just yet because she has help. She has the help from the one and only Lander Gable as ironic as that sounds. Even though Lander is a Gable, he is also after Edmund and Travis for his own reasons. A combination of a family member with access to everything the family owns and a determined girl bent on revenge posing as the personal assistant to Travis’s wife makes for a force to be reckoned with.

What also rivals that forced to be reckoned is the sex scenes with Lander and Adoncia were not only on the explicit side to the point I have to applaud Adoncia’s flexibility but some of it was on the symbolic side. The author showed the beauty of sex being used for iconic symbolism rather than the typical couple acting on their desires. The first sex scene was a good example. Lander and Adoncia were doing their research on how to bring down Edmund and Travis with papers ranging from documents, emails and pictures strewn all over the table. Flirting happened and then they start going at it on the table on top of all the papers and stuff. The scene went on to say they vow to crush and rise above their adversaries.

I really like Adoncia’s character. Not only was she such a clever and courageous woman but she was a woman with a lot more honor than she gave herself credit for. When she ran into the cop that arrested her mother at a bar, she set out to murder him in cold blood with rat poison but didn’t at the last minute. When she met up with Lander afterward, she went on an emotional tirade on how unfair life is and how Edmund, Travis and Sean all deserve to die. It showed me how human Adoncia really is under her mask of cold aloofness that she does hurt, grieve and yes miss her mother. It showed me the very human side of wanting to hurt someone who hurt you or someone you hold dear to suffer the way you suffered or whatnot. Yes revenge isn’t good but the fact of life is that the emotion can get the better of us. As for Lander, I wanted to like him I really did but I felt like he lacked honor and I found myself turned off by that. I really did not like him in the end where he changed the plans to achieve his own objective, it was a selfish dick move. Seriously, making all these empty promises to Adoncia that her mother will be avenged and then turn around on that. Sorry but I have a big thing against people who say they are going to do something but turn around on the promise. It’s a big deal breaker and a surefire way to get on my bad side. I can only hope Lander will redeem himself in the next book.

Jessica however I was really surprised by her. She was that wildcard I did not expect. As a drunk and chronic pill popper, it was very easy to under estimate her. I admit I should’ve given her more credit and realized she was a lot smarter than she appeared after the whole thing in the bathroom with Adoncia and Jessica during the political party. And in the end, she was the one who gave Adoncia a priceless gift of justice. I have to admit Travis made one worthy bone-chilling villain. Not only he was always cool and collected that nothing ever ruffled his feathers but it always seemed he had the calculative evilness shining through those ice blue eyes of his like he was a powerful man to be feared.

I really enjoyed the book and I like where the story is going but I felt like the story at times was a little difficult to follow with several references that had to come from the previous book. So in all honesty, the book was not a very suitable stand-alone book. I loved the end of the book with a confrontation between Adoncia and Travis. It was pretty intense to see Adoncia’s determination and strength shine through while Travis is unwavering in his confidence that rich and powerful men like him won’t get put into jail. The cherry on top was when Adoncia gave Travis a copy of The Count of Monte Cristo which is really suitable which is a classic book about being wrongfully accused and being out for revenge. I wonder too if this book was inspired by this classic novel. After all the main themes of both books are the same, Travis’s Father’s name is Edmund when the main character in The Count of Monte Cristo is named Edmond and both last names of the main character’s alias in this book and The Count of Monte Cristo is Dantes. So it just makes me wonder if the author made little Easter eggs or not. I look forward to the next book and hope that Adoncia will get her justice served to her. Who knows maybe Travis will get his just like she wants. Stay tuned on this adventure of corruption, intrigue and suspense.
