Firelight at Mustang Ridge by Jesse Hayworth is the 4^th book in her wonderful Mustang Ridge series. I am a big fan of Jesse Hayworth (aka Jessica Andersen), and have loved this series from the first book. What is not to love? A ranch in Wyoming, which is also a resort that is owned by the Skye family…. Hot cowboys…Fantastic female characters who become the awesome heroines of this series….Gran, who makes the best food…and above all, we get to spend time with all the characters we have met and loved from the previous books. When I start each book in this series, I can’t wait to see these fun and wonderful characters again, and when I finish the book, I am happy, content and in a good mood. Can anything be better?

Firelight at Mustang Ridge continues this trend of wonderful sweet heartwarming romance within a family type of atmosphere. We meet Danny, a new female heroine, who comes to Mustang Ridge to escape her family smothering, and have some privacy. Danny, who was always outgoing and athletic, suffered an accident the left her in serious condition for over a year, which also left her emotionally scarred. She has anxiety attacks when in tight or dark places. Can she overcome this in Mustang Ridge?

Danny arranged to stay in and RV, a short distance from the main house, where she can have the privacy she craves. The first night, she meets our hero Sam, who actually came to her rescue, and is left with an accidental black eye. Great way to start. Lol Within a few days, they both find themselves attracted to each other. Sam senses Danny’s fears, and tries to help her, while their romance keeps getting hotter and hotter. However, Sam does have his own issues, which started when his father was killed in a motorcycle accident a few years before. This stops him from having any long term commitment, since he has fears losing people he loves.

In no time, Danny begins to open up more and becomes friends with our previous gals, who have met their mates; Krista, Jenny and Shelby. In the midst of all the tourists and plans for fun activity, they are also planning Krista and Wyatt’s wedding.

This was a fun, sweet romance, with two people trying to overcome their issues. It was also enjoyable to watch the bonding of friendships, and the preparation of the wedding. Firelight at Mustang Ridge was a wonderful story, and Jesse Hayworth outdid herself. If you enjoy sweet romance, great couple, wonderful secondary characters, animals, hot cowboys on a ranch, you need to read the Mustang Ridge series.

REVIEW: THE RAVEN is the first full length novel in Sylvain Reynard’s adult, contemporary The Florentine paranormal, romance series focusing on an ancient vampire known as ‘The Prince’ or ‘William York’, and Uffizi Gallery art restorer American Raven Wood. There is a character crossover with the series as the Prince is on the trail of Professor Gabriel Emerson and his wife Julianne from Reynard’s GABRIEL‘S INFERNO contemporary romance series. Emerson was in possession of some stolen art-art that once belonged to the Prince. You can find the background information in the prequel novella-The Prince

Told from third person point of view, the premise follows The Prince as his subjects and people continue to battle the rogue vampires who have infiltrated the Florentine Prince’s territory. An attack by the rogue vampires against a young human woman finds the Prince coming to her aid only to discover that something about the ‘Rubenesque’ woman calls to his heart and to his soul. The Prince does not do relationships; does not do love but protecting the woman known as Raven Wood becomes one of his top priorities.

The Prince is an ancient vampire; a man whose authority is final; his word is law; and a ruler who is quick to destroy anyone who questions his power. His relationship with Raven will become more complicated as the storyline develops because saving her from the rogue vampires also meant saving her from death-a death from which needed a vampire’s blood to survive. Their connection is immediate but Raven is unaware of what has transpired leaving her vulnerable and asking questions of the wrong people. When her life is threatened, the Prince offers up the only thing he can do-for Raven to become his own.

The relationship is slow to develop as the Prince is focused on a possible traitor who has left his territory exposed. Raven is a woman whose background is plagued with heartbreak, emotional and physical abuse, as well as a lifetime of low self esteem and issues of physical inadequacy and beauty. The Prince is drawn to Raven like a moth to a flame and in this Raven, quite possibly, is his downfall. Convincing Raven to leave Florence is difficult- Italy is now her home

There is an ‘old world’ charm to the world building as Sylvain Reynard takes the reader through classical Florence Italy and the dramatic underworld darkness of vampires and death. Their dangerous existence is ruled by a political infrastructure not unlike many Principalities where the head of state is the final authority on all matters concerning the law. Raven’s knowledge of art restoration along with the Prince’s intimacy with many famous paintings and artists lends to the captivating and picturesque beauty of the early Renaissance era, once again invoking an historical feel to the contemporary story.

The secondary and supporting characters include the members of the ruling vampire house of Florence-the Consilium-the governing body of all things supernatural and vampiric in the Prince’s territory. We are introduced to Raven’s friends, coworkers and an assortment of legal professionals who are also on the hunt for a possible serial killer and some missing art from the Uffizi Gallery.

Sylvain Reynard’s dark and mysterious world of The Florentine and its’ vampires is sensual, passionate and deadly. The phenomenal amount of detail with regard to early Renaissance painters and art adds an historical flavor to a paranormal storyline that is addicting and intense; a contemporary love story wrapped in a blanket of old world drama and destruction. A story that crosses the centuries in a contemporary time line.

Review:

Just in Time for a Highlander by Gwyn Cready is the 1^st book in her new Sirens of the Scottish Borderlands series. Just in Time for a Highlander is a time travel Scottish Historical romance, but what makes this different than most time travel romances of this sort is that the man is the one thrown back in time. Most of the historical time travel books I have read, they have all been woman.

Abby Kerr is our heroine, who is the Chieftess of Clan Kerr. Abby and her clan are in the midst of trying to come up with funds to save her land, and to avoid war with the English. She is in desperate help for a strong arm warrior, and may be forced to marry her cousin, Rosston to save Clan Kerr. Abby’s friend Undine is a witch, who uses potents, charms and spells and one of these will bring Abby an unexpected gift.

Duncan MacHarg is our hero from current time, a successful financier and a Scottish Battle reenactor, who while playing in his fun battle, is caught into a spell and ends up in 1705 Scotland. It takes him a short while to realize that he is indeed in old Scotland, and becomes enthralled by the Clan’s leader, Abby. When Abby sees Duncan, at first she is not impressed, but soon realizes that Undine has brought her the strong arm she needs.

What follows is a story of Abby trying to avoid a war with English soldiers, keeping her clan safe, and hopefully avoiding a forced marriage. Duncan at the same time must try to earn the respect of Abby, Rosston and the members of the Clan. The romance between Duncan and Abby is scorching, even though both know at some point he will be sent back to his time, once he completes his forced mission to help Abby.

This was a nice romance, with a very likeable couple and the story had a nice theme. However, I had mixed feelings, as I thought the story was a bit disjointed at times, with some repetition, forcing me to skip a little at times. Overall it was a good story, with potential of being even better.
