Asking for Trouble by Anna J. Stewart – a Review

Asking for Trouble by Anna J. Stewart – a Review

Asking for TroubleAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
The Tremaynes are one of the most prosperous families in Lantano Valley, California. But money can’t buy everything—especially when it comes to love…

Morgan Tramayne has a heart of gold, but to keep her children’s charity afloat she’s had to resort to some less than legal means: donations from a notorious cat burglar who targets the wealthy. It’s only a matter of time before Morgan’s criminal connection blows up in her face—especially since her undeniable attraction to the man heading the investigation keeps putting her in tricky situations.

Former police detective-turned-investigator Gage Juliano has two goals: salvaging his career and nabbing Lantano Valley’s present-day Robin Hood. But when he meets a beautiful, curvaceous woman who’s more interested in helping others than amassing a fortune like the rest of the town’s residents, Gage finds his desires pulled in an unexpected direction

Review:

Asking for Trouble by Anna J. Stewart is the first book in her Tremayne Family Romance series. This is the first book I have read by Stewart, and after finishing this book, it will not be my last. This was a wonderful sweet, romantic and heart wrenching story, that is not to be missed.

Morgan Tramayne is our heroine, and with the death of her mother, she stepped into handling the charity foundation of the Tramayne family, especially her children’s charity that she is in charge of. Morgan is emotionally involved building the new clinic, as well as taking into her home 4 sick children. But Morgan finds herself in too deep financially. She has used some of the charity funds to help pay for a dying child’s surgery to save him. Now due to the expenses from the new building, she is strapped for time to pay back what she borrowed. A cat burglar named Nemesis, who targets the wealthy, leaves funds for her to use at various times, and now she is forced to use it.

Gabe Juliano is our hero, a former cop, who is now an investigator for the Lantano Police Department. Gabe previously was involved in trying to find out who was Nemesis, whom many call the modern Robin Hood. Gabe finds himself becoming involved again, as he suspects there are some connections in town.

Morgan and Gabe meet at the charity foundation gala, and the attraction between them creates immediate sparks. Gabe is enthralled with the beautiful & vivacious Morgan, but she knowing he is a cop, tries to distance herself. Gabe is persistent, and soon finds himself meeting and becoming involved with the children that Morgan takes care of. Morgan agrees to meet Gabe’s family, which was fun, and in a short time the Juliano and Tremayne families begin to work together helping with jobs or to help with the kids. It was kind of funny to watch Gabe’s mother latch on to Morgan to convince her to marry her son. Lol

Gabe and Morgan’s romance begins to sizzle, and both know that they have fallen love with each other. But Nemesis investigation run by an FBI investigator who seems to be out to get the Tremaynes, puts a cramp in their relationship. Gabe must find a way to clear Morgan, and stop the investigator from his unwarranted attempt to destroy Morgan and her family, and at the same time, he is concerned if he trust Morgan again? You will have to read the book to find out. what happens.

This is a sweet beautiful romance, great couple, a nice mystery and two super families. There are some twists that will continue on into the next story. However, this is also a very emotional read, as we get attached to the children staying with Morgan, with some heartbreak.   Great story all the way around. I suggest you read this book, as it is not to be missed.

Chasing Desire by Joya Ryan – a Review

Chasing Desire by Joya Ryan – a Review

Chasing desire

Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
It’s her best friend’s wedding, and Autumn Lane is trussed up in a pink bridesmaid dress with a big “everything is great” smile plastered across her face. She’s not going think about her life imploding, or spending the next two weeks housesitting in the ridiculously small town of Diamond. No, she’d rather think about the tattooed hottie in the wedding party…and how to turn the wicked way he’s looking at her into a night of intense pleasure.

Huck Galvin is fiercely attracted to his mystery woman’s no-BS attitude, but their one-night-no-strings plan backfires when Huck discovers that Autumn is the out-of-towner he’s “chaperoning” for the next two weeks. Outside the bedroom, the two can’t stand each other, yet Huck can’t deny how much he wants one more night with her. But Autumn isn’t going to make it easy for Huck. Not by a long shot…

Review:

Chasing Desire by Joya Ryan was a steamy, straightforward, easy read about a one-night stand gone “wrong”. Although wrong here translates to bad timing due to the carelessness of previous lovers and absent parents. Joya Ryan has several installments in this Chasing Love series. Now that I’ve caught on, tee hee, I’ll read some more.

“So tell me then,” he said. “With your unbridled honesty, if you don’t have much, what are you looking for?”

Her lips parted, and she looked him in the eyes. There was something deep and dark running within her, and damn if he didn’t want to tap into that.

“I think I just found what I’m looking for,” she said with the slightest breath in her voice. “I’m here for one night.”

“Ah, fate is kind,” he said. “Because so am I.”

Still, one night was the deal. However heavenly, so earth shattering that it would be greedy to ask for more, no more fun can be had. Unless…

Huck and Autumn went for what they wanted, checked their expectations at the desk, and indulged in consensual sex. What I didn’t expect, or like, was Autumn’s sudden distaste/disapproval of Huck. She had zero complaints the night before! It made Autumn petty and immature in an otherwise fun read. But as I already stated, insecurities of not being good (or important enough to stay for) have cemented Autumn’s walls and made her obstinate.

Now pot meet kettle. Huck was dumped unceremoniously and has taken it upon himself to enjoy women, but to keep it temporary. He’s honest and dedicated to a night of pleasure, but always diligent to maintain essential distance. A match made in heaven…if only they’d learn to trust in their feelings…and each other.

Huck’s whining got old fast. First he convinces Autumn to give him a second, entire night, but when Autumn beats him to the door (for the second time), he’s pissy enough to demand another night!

“So what are you looking for this time?” she said. “Round three?”

“I’m after however many rounds it takes for us to get this right.”

Right?! If Ms. Ryan had indulged Huck’s ego so that he could be the one to walk away and call it “even”, I would have considered Chasing Desire a pathetic game of cat and mouse. This is me apologizing, Ms. Joya  When Huck and Autumn stopped misreading each other, stopped second-guessing each other’s motives, the heart was finally revealed. And it was lovely.

Did I mention it was steeeeeeamy?? Blush-inducing, my friends. I would have preferred more emotional communication to their physical connection, but you always feast with your eyes first. Or is that about food? You get the gist. 😀

Issues get heavy and it’s not pretty — rattling firmly entrenched boundaries rarely are. But Huck and Autumn fit perfectly and it’s a real joy to see them battle demons and each other to embrace their now.

REVIEW

3.5 of out 5 for this reader folks!

Well as a Canadian enduring these cold winters I have say I have a little appreciation for a story that involves some skiing with a little naughty naughty. LOL Private Lessons by Chelsea Dorsette is a quick read that has a sweet “soon to be couple” who not only find a potential love interest in the other, but also one that enables the other to indulge in a little kink that adds a much needed layer to that love interest.

Denise co-owns a chiropractic business that is doing quite well, but she is lacking in the love department. Convinced to open an account on a dating website she sure seems to find some freaky deekys. Denise also find Dustin who she starts quite the flirtatious email adventure with. When she takes some ski lessons, she soon realizes that her hot instructor is that same man that she is flirting with. When the secret is out of the bag, her whole sex life is about to change.

Dustin is yummy … he is quite interested in engaging a dom/sub relationship with Denise and soon begins to introduce her to a whole new world that she never knew existed. These two are so perfectly matched and you can see how they can make it as a couple, if only they can get through a threat that is dooming them to fail.

This is a pretty quick read. It felt a little rush at times but the characters were enjoyable so it was easy to get lost in them. If you are looking for a quick smutty read that’ll make you smile then by all means give this book a try!

HAPPY READING! 🙂

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: CHARADE is the prequel novella to J.S Cooper’s Swept Away series focusing on Bianca London and her personal investigation into Bradley Inc. Upon her father’s death, Bianca discovered that there may have been more to her mother’s death than purely an accident. What ensues is Bianca’s attempt to get closer to the Bradley heirs in order to uncover the truth about her father’s claims; betrayal at the hands of a friend; and years of lies and fraud.

J.S. Cooper’s CHARADE reveals some of the background information leading to Bianca and David’s relationship; their eventual break up; and hints at a struggling friendship, betrayal and manipulation. There are hidden clues and forewarnings regarding the people in Bianca’s life. No one can be trusted-even a best friend named Judas turned to save his own life.

We are introduced to Bianca, David Bradley, and Bianca’s best friend Rosie. We learn a little more about what motivates Bianca, her friendship with Rosie and her attempts to seduce a member of the Bradley family.

CHARADE is a quick and revealing read with a hint of betrayal and control; deception, dishonesty and duplicity. The storyline is a build up of deceit, lies, evasion and disbelief. While Bianca is desperate to uncover the truth, she is incapable of taking her plans through to the next level.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 30, 2015

Chelsea Turner barely managed to survive at the hands of a psychotic stalker. She is still fighting inner demons when circumstances force her into hiding with the one man she’s desperately trying to avoid: sinfully handsome, confirmed bachelor, Blake Harrington.

As Blake Harrington’s boat explodes, killing two of his closest friends, he is certain it wasn’t an accident. Convinced he’s still in danger, Blake pulls Chelsea into hiding with him and turns to his old college friend, Special Agent Nicholas Braun, for help.
As Blake, Chelsea, and Nicholas search for answers, they find someone is ruthlessly determined to keep secrets buried. As they discover a trail of lies and deceit, will they be able to expose the truth before more lives are lost?

Trail of Guilt is a contemporary story with a tantalizing blend of romance, intrigue and suspense.

*******************

REVIEW: TRAIL OF GUILT is the second installment in Rebecca Tust’s contemporary, adult The Trail romantic, suspense series. This is radio personality Chelsea Turner and Blake Harrington’s storyline. We were first introduced to Chelsea and Blake in book one TRAIL OF OBSESSION-Megan Cartwright and Stephen Braun’s story. I strongly suggest reading the series in order as a number of characters, history and backstory overlap from book one to book two.

Told from several third person points of view, the storyline picks up after the events of book one. Chelsea had been savagely beaten by Raymond Overton-the psychotic killer who had originally targeted her best friend Megan in Trail of Obsession. While in recovery at home, Chelsea is quietly pursued by Blake Harrington-Stephen Braun’s best friend- in the hopes of a relationship. As Chelsea continues to pull away from friends and family, Blake finds himself struggling following an explosion and the death of his close friends Jen and Garrett. Believing he was the intended victim Blake pulls Chelsea into a cross-country run in the hopes of protecting the woman with whom he is falling in love. Blake is convinced that his connection to Chelsea places her life in danger.

Blake is a man who doesn’t do relationships. His reputation with the women precedes his attempts to seduce Chelsea and in this Chelsea is reluctant to have her heart broken. On the run, Chelsea and Blake will contact Stephen’s brother, ‘investigator’ Nicholas Braun, in the hopes of securing a place to stay. What ensues is the building relationship between Blake and Chelsea as they hide out waiting for Nicholas to uncover the truth behind the explosion and murders. The investigation will find Nicholas discovering a trail of missing money and the person responsible caught between two worlds and two lives.

The numerous secondary and supporting characters carry a good portion of the story. We get reacquainted with Megan and Stephen, and some of their extended family and friends; an assortment of law officials and FBI agents including Agent Lauren Leighton; Megan’s lawyer Sean Black (and Chelsea’s cousin); Raymond Overton; and Samantha-the woman responsible for Megan’s kidnapping in book one.

There are two side story developments that run parallel to Chelsea and Blake’s saga; both premises will intersect with the investigation resulting in the truth, more abductions and a missing FBI special agent.

TRAIL OF GUILT is a contemporary story of suspense, romance and loss but once again, like the first book, I found some questionable reality. The storyline is fast paced; the central characters likeable but fallible; their situations complicated and involved. There are moments of tension and guilt; romance and love; letting go and moving on. Rebecca Tust writes an intriguing storyline that ends on a bit of a cliffhanger that will introduce the potential players in the next installment.

Developing the Hero: Trail of Guilt

When you first meet Blake Harrington, he has a cocky and arrogant personality. He’s a successful financial analyst. He’s ruggedly handsome and athletic. He has money, great friends, and a lot of material things. He’s just celebrated his thirty-second birthday and life is going great.

Blake cares about Chelsea and has been pursuing her. They have great chemistry together and she has the potential to be something more, but Blake is still in the mode of playing games and avoiding commitment. I felt if they connected too soon, Blake would end up sabotaging the relationship.

I knew I needed to do something to shake Blake’s world up in order to make him change. I started with him witnessing his friends’ deaths. He’s burdened with grief and thinks it’s his fault his friends died. As his friends and family assume he’s been killed as well, he finds himself stripped of everything and re-evaluating his life. He realizes he doesn’t want to be remembered as a selfish, fun-loving SOB and starts to make a change.

As Blake and Chelsea continue to spend time together, you see a softer, more vulnerable side to Blake. He cares about his friends and his family. When he discovers his father has had a heart attack, he pushes his welfare aside. He knows coming out of hiding is a risk, but he’s willing to risk his life in order to see his father again.
As Blake and Chelsea work together to overcome various adversities, they realize what or who is important in life. Blake comes to appreciate his family and friends even more. He realizes the relationship he has with Chelsea is special and opens his heart for love instead of trying to push it away. I hope you enjoy Blake’s transformation from shallow and selfish to a caring man worthy of love.

Developing the Heroine:

Chelsea Turner is a radio announcer with a vibrant personality and infectious laugh. She has a heart full of love, but finds herself unlucky when it comes to love. It seems she’s always falling for the wrong man, and Blake Harrington is no exception.

Because of a recent attack, Chelsea finds herself less carefree and more guarded. Even though Blake is trying to help pull her out of her funk, she’s trying to resist being with Blake alone. She’s at the point in her life where she’s tired of being in dead-end relationships.

Even though Chelsea has flaws, hates camping, and can be a little dramatic, she has a great heart. Her greatest strengths are her loyalty and support. When Chelsea realizes Blake needs her help, she’s willing to jeopardize her career and her life to help him.
