Review:

Obsession in Death by J.D. Robb is the 40th full length novel (approximately 10 novellas) in her fantastic In Death series. Most of you know I am an In Death fanatic, and consider Eve and Roarke my favorite couple. You would think by the 40th book, the stories would become repetitious. However, I am happy to say that Obsession in Death was an awesome read, and I hope J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) never stops giving us Eve, Roarke, and all of our favorite characters we have come to adore in this series.

Obsession in Death starts with Eve and Peabody being called to investigate a homicide. The victim is someone they know from previous cases; a lawyer that Eve did not really like. The biggest surprise they discover at the murder scene is a written message on the wall addressed to Eve. The murderer expresses her admiration for her, and as a “true loyal friend”, she acted to punish the victim who wronged Eve in the past.

What follows is an exciting, fascinating story of a killer who is obsessed with Eve, and targets those who the killer feels has been disrespected her in past cases. The race is on with Eve, Peabody, her team to find the killer, who she suspects has some police background.   Dr. Mira has warned Eve that the killer will turn at some point against her, since she will not acknowledge the killers need for some kind of praise. Eve escalates defenses to all her family and friends, whom the killer knows she cares about, in order to protect them. It was nice to see those same friends and family express worry that Eve needs to protect herself.

The suspense is nerve wrecking, as Eve, Roarke and the team rush through the many obsessive messages and emails that she has received over the years. It is like finding a needle in the haystack.

One of the great things about this series is in between the tense murder investigations is the wonderful romance between Eve & Roarke; the fun relationship and banter between Eve & Peabody; and the fabulous secondary characters, which always manages to relieve any tension from the case.

Over the years, Eve has evolved so much from the young police officer, who had a tragic childhood, and would only let her superior, Feeney and her friend, Mavis into her personal life. Now besides her love for Roarke, she finds herself with many friends that make this case even more difficult for her, since she fears for their lives. What is great about this series now is the friends that are a big part of her life, such as Nadine, Mavis, Peabody, McNab, Feeney, Mira, Summerset, Morris,  Charles, Louise,Galahad, and her entire police team, whom we have grown to care about too. J.D. Robb has done a wonderful job creating a couple such as Eve & Roarke and surrounding them with those we have come to love over time.

Obsession in Death is an action packed, humorous, suspenseful, tense story that holds our breath through the exciting climax. I just never have enough of this series, not to mention my awe of JD Robb/Nora Roberts, who continues to amaze us with each new book.

REVIEW: ANYTHING BUT MINE is the first installment in Taryn Elliott’s adult, contemporary When You’re Gone erotic romance trilogy focusing on ‘All The King’s Men’ front man and rock star Logan King and book store owner Isabella (Izzy) Grace.

Told from alternating third person points of view (Isabella and Logan) the storyline focuses on the preparations for the upcoming annual Winchester Falls Summer Festival. For the past several years, Logan King has headlined the festival and festival organizer Isabella Grace is about to meet the man who would break her heart. Logan King will sweep Izzy off her feet and offer her the world but the world he offers comes with dark secrets, ex lovers and a stalker who is refusing to let go.

Logan is a tortured but passionate rock star with a past and a history with the ladies; a past that refuses to let go and in this Logan is constantly looking over his shoulder. He is man whose anxiety level is tempered by Izzy’s constant presence. Izzy does not suspect that Logan is on the edge of the abyss; she is unfamiliar with his entire back story and in this Izzy will be caught in the path of destruction.

The relationship between Izzy and Logan is quick to develop. Logan is in town for a few days but his attraction to Izzy is beyond compare. After a few tentative back steps, Izzy and Logan will quickly become lovers but the paparazzi are always one step behind. When Logan’s past seductively comes back, Izzy is caught unawares; Logan knows his past has found him but he is blindsided by his need to protect Izzy at all costs. Walking away is the only thing he can do.

The numerous secondary and fascinating supporting characters include the members of Logan’s band Zeke, Cage, Morgan and Christian as well as a group of extended friends and fellow musicians including Johnny, Nash and Lindsey; Izzy’s friends Nichole and Adam as well as Sam are her fellow books store owners and support group when things begin to fall apart; and Mayor Sharon Darcy, a woman who places a high demand on Isabella’s time.

ANYTHING BUT MINE has moments of humor, fun, romance and plenty of hot $ex followed by heartbreak and anxiety for two people who have fallen in love. Taryn Elliott pulls the reader into an intense but passionate storyline. The storyline ends on a cliffhanger; you will want to know what happens next.

Taryn Elliott captures the essence of the rock and roll bad boy; his all consuming need for the woman that he loves; and a relationship that must traverse a minefield of stalker and paparazzi dangers.

REVIEW: HUNTER REBORN is the fifth full length installment in Katie Reus’s adult, contemporary Moon Shifter paranormal romance series. This is warrior/wolf shifter Aiden and five hundred year old, royal family vampire Larissa’s storyline-a second chance at love tale.

Told from third person point of view using present day, flashbacks and unfolding memories, the focus of the storyline is two fold. As the Armstrong Cordona Pack continues their search for the people or species responsible for the trafficking of vampire blood, our hero Aiden will discover that the mate he long thought dead is alive. The problem-Larissa doesn’t remember Aiden, their mating, or anything about the previous sixty years. When Aiden sets eyes on his wayward mate, their matebond is immediately reconnected leaving a shocked Larissa ready to run.

The prior connection between our couple has already been established. For the past sixty years Aiden believed his mate was dead; their matebond severed; and his heart heavy with sorrow. With Larissa’s return, Aiden must uncover the truth behind his mate’s disappearance, its’ connection to the past, and the who and why of such a treacherous feat. Larissa and Aiden cannot, and do not, deny their attraction and tie to one another; Larissa’s acceptance is fairly easy considering the reality of the situation and what she has been told. Larissa’s connection to the Pack’s investigation will pull our couple and the shifters into a dangerous and dark world.

The secondary and supporting characters include Magda-a witch whose ‘master’ demands obedience and blood; a number of ancient vampires with connections to Larissa’s family, and several members of the Armstrong-Cordona Wolf Pack first introduced in the previous installments. The AC Pack is strong, cohesive and welcoming of interspecies relationships-something not all supernatural powers are willing to accept.

Although this is the fifth installment in the series, HUNTER REBORN can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty. Any important information is revealed when necessary but for cohesion and familiarity of characters and their history, I suggest reading in order. There are also a couple of other developing relationships throughout the story (Ryan and Teresa/ Natalia and Aldric) that set up possible future books and storylines.

HUNTER REBORN is a second chance storyline for two people whose love for one another was silenced by revenge and discrimination; hatred and deceit. There are moments of humor, romance, action and suspense with a little bit of $ex to stir your imagination. Katie Reus pulls the reader into an imaginative world of the supernatural. The storylines are addicting, captivating and leave you wanting more.

Mr John Heldt, you are one of my few fave authors to review for. Your stories truely whisk me away and make me want to go on a time travel adventure of my own. I LOVE IT! *Insert Happy Dance*

September Sky is the first book of John Heldt’s new American Journey Series. This book revolves around a father and son team who travel back in time from modern day to 1900’s Texas. Although hesitant to take the plunge in time, these two soon learn that living in 1900’s suits them both quite well. Although having strict rules to follow during their adventure, they soon find these rules somewhat tossed away and have to learn to deal with the consequences of their actions. Facing rivals, falling in love, trying to right many wrongs and anticipating a horrible disaster make this an adventure one can never forget .. especially if one cannot return to previously known way of living. Nope no more details .. this is an experience you will want to treasure. LOL

John .. you rock my time travel world. Here’s the thing too .. I am not a big fan of time travel. You however, have a way of creating the most vivid pictures with your worlds and before I know it I am completely captivated and engrossed in your creativity. Your character development is one of the most amazing I have ever experienced and I fall helplessly in love with all your characters .. be them bad or good. You weave a sweet romance in so much action and adventure and when decisions need to be made I find my heart really invested. I gush as you are truely gush worthy!

Thank you for making this another book of yours that I adore and I cannot wait for your next one!

Review:

All for You by Christi Barth is the 2nd book in her Shore Secrets series. In the first book of this series, we met Ella and Gray and their friends in this small town sweet romance. All for You begins with one Ella’s friends, Casey, who is a park ranger, as she notices a man come out of the freezing ocean after hours. Going to his rescue, she meets our hero, Zane, who has just arrived in town to start a class at the local college.

The attraction between Casey and Zane is immediate, but Barth does a wonderful job of taking this romance slow, with Zane determined to gradually win over Casey, without rushing the sex. Zane is not only a professor, he is also a successful author, who is obsessed with writing about cults. There is one cult, The Sunshine Seekers, who came to a dramatic end, that he has not been able to bring to a final conclusion. Zane feels he is close to finding the truth right here in this small town, and is determined to find the truth, so he can write the story he has dreamed of all these years. Who is the Lone Survivor of The Sunshine Seekers?

Casey’s friends, whom we met in the first book, play a big part in this story. Besides Ella, Gray, we get to spend more time with Dawn, Ward, Piper, Joel, in this wonderful lighthearted romance, that has a little mystery. Casey and Zane begin to realize that they are falling in love with one another, and they made such a hot and sweet couple. Will there be a future for them?

Without giving spoilers, we learn early on that Casey, Dawn and the town have their own hidden secrets that they will protect, which will put Zane fully in the middle. Secrets will be revealed, relationships put at risk, as we worry if love will prevail during this crisis.

As I have said before, Christi Barth always writes wonderful sweet lighthearted romances, with wonderful couples, and great fun friendships. All for You was an enjoyable, charming, and fast fun relaxing read. I recommend you to read this wonderful series.

Hi, Christi. Thank you for taking the time to revisit us at The Reading Cafe, to discuss your new release “All For You”, as well as to give us an update as to what you have in store for us in 2015.

Christi:  Oh, I’m always happy to stop by and chat! Talking about books is one of my favorite things to do.

TRC: It has been awhile when we last interviewed you, for anyone who does not know Christi Barth, would you please tell us something about yourself?

Christi: I write sassy, funny contemporary romances. You’d better appreciate some good banter and bromance if you read my books!

TRC: You have just released the 2nd book in your Shore Secrets trilogy. For those who may not have read this series, would you please give us a brief description of Shore Secrets?

Christi: I love the opportunity to share my series disclaimer: this whole series is based on real life. The premise is of a mailbox on a lakeshore where everyone in town anonymously writes their questions and problems – and people respond with their advice. As crazypants as it sounds, the idea came to me after hearing a radio story about a town in North Carolina that actually does this. Wild, huh? So yes, each book contains secrets the hero and heroine keep from each other…but the whole rest of the town finds out.

All for YouTRC: With the release today of All For You, can you please give us a brief description of this 2nd book in the series?

Christi: There’s a park ranger who has been hiding – in plain sight – from the nation for over a decade. Casey wants a summer fling with the hot new college professor. Except…he’s more than just a professor. Zane’s a world famous cult expert who has been searching for the last survivor of the Sunshine Seekers for his entire career. Can she risk revealing her secret for love? Would Zane choose another guaranteed book and film deal if he learns her true identity – or her heart?
TRC: The 3rd book in this series, Back to Us is anticipated to be June release. Can you please tell us briefly about the last book in the Shore Secrets Trilogy?
Christi: The fun part has been dropping hints about Ward and Piper throughout the first two books. They were best friends, then high school sweethearts until an ugly breakup. Still best friends, neither realizes they both still are madly in love with each other. And when Ward refuses to sell Piper his land unless she dates him for a month, an uncompromising winemaker learns that some bargains are worth making for a second chance at love.
TRC: If you could cast the leading characters, who would you envision to play the leading roles in your Shore Secrets series?
Christi: Ooh – an excuse to send you to my Pinterest page! I’ve got a board for every book, chock full of outfits and settings and yes, hot guys. So Up To Me stars Jessica Biel & Ian Somerholder; All For You is Amy Smart & Nathan Fillion, and I just finished writing Back To Us, which meant months of staring at the HOT Joe Mangianello & Amy Adams.

TRC: Wow I need to look at your Pinterest page….Ian, Nathan and Joe..those are some hot guys. 🙂

Never too Late
TRC: You recently released a novella, Never Too Late. Can you please give us a brief description, and is this a standalone book or is it part of a new series?

Christi: This is part of Harlequin’s More Than Words philanthropy project. They highlight three charities, give them money, and publish a story loosely based on each one. Mine is a sweet love story about two career-focused architects who are forced to work on birthday parties for homeless children.

 

 

TRC: Will there be more books for your wonderful Aisle Bound series, or was A Matchless Romance the last book in this series?

Christi: Awww, I’m so glad you liked it! But I’m afraid I did marry off everyone possible in that series, so it did indeed conclude with the fourth book. But it is practically wedding season, so let’s remind everyone who hasn’t read it yet to go grab all the romance drenched books – it is even in a convenient box set!

 

 

TRC: Would you like to share with us what you are currently working on, and what you have in store for us in 2015?

Christi: So many exciting things! Book 3 of Shore Secrets, Back To Us, comes out in July. Then in the fall I’m releasing The Opposite of Right, the first novella in my Bad Decisions series about hot rockers. 2015 kicks off with the release of Book One in my just-sold Naked Men series (title still to be tweaked, but currently Risking It All). It centers around five men who survived a high school tragedy, how it made them into the men they are today, and of course, the women who complete them.

TRC: When not writing, what do you do to relax?

Christi: I’m a TVaholic, so I catch up on all the shows I missed while churning out the words. I adore cooking and throwing dinner parties (probably because my husband does all the clean up), and I read non-stop.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Christi: Don’t let the potentially serious topic of cults scare you away – All For You is chock full of laughs (it’s the only way I know how to write!), super sexy scenes, and romance that will make you sigh blissfully.
