ABOUT THE BOOK: January 2, 2015

“I tried to play a game. I tried to wield deceit as perfectly as the Hawks. But when I thought I was winning, I wasn’t. Jethro isn’t what he seems—he’s the master of duplicity. However, I refuse to let him annihilate me further.”

Nila Weaver has grown from naïve seamstress to full-blown fighter. Every humdrum object is her arsenal, and sex…sex is her greatest weapon of all.

She’s paid the First Debt. She’ll probably pay more.

But she has no intention of letting the Hawks win.

Jethro Hawk has found more than a worthy adversary in Nila—he’s found the woman who could destroy him. There’s a fine line between hatred and love, and an even finer path between fear and respect.

The fate of his house rests on his shoulders, but no matter how much ice lives inside his heart, Nila flames too bright to be extinguished.

REVIEW: SECOND DEBT is the third installment in Pepper Winters’s adult, contemporary Indebted dark, erotic romance series focusing on a six hundred year old debt the Hawk family believes comes due with the first born Weaver daughter-and Nila Weaver is this generation’s payment.

SECOND DEBT and the Indebted series is a dark, erotic romance with questionable situations and dubious consent. Nila Weaver is a prisoner; a victim of a perceived debt that must be repaid with each successive Weaver generation; by birthright Jethro (Jet) Hawk is the man who has been tasked with demanding payment-a payment he is reluctant to take but one that is necessary for all to survive. SECOND DEBT finds Nila withdrawing from the man who is now both her jailer and her lover-a distinction that becomes blurred as another debt must be paid.

The premise of SECOND DEBT continues to be disturbing with graphic acts of violence, torture, emotional and physical abuse, and threats meant to frighten our heroine into submission. But Jethro hides a secret; a secret that if revealed will change the course of the debt, and one that will place Jet in as much danger as the woman with whom he has fallen in love. Nila will remain defiant until the end but the end will come sooner than anyone thinks.

The secondary characters are colorful, psychotic, ruthless and dominant. The Hawk family continues a tradition of extracting a debt payment for over six hundred years and in this Nila Weaver has become their latest victim.

Pepper Winters’s imagination takes the reader into the darkest recesses of our minds; there is no escape for Nila and no escape for the reader who becomes trapped when the story takes a prophetic turn and a debt must be paid. The heart pounding anxiety and stress of Nila’s imprisonment is compounded with an all-consuming need to see a happily ever after for the man who has been ordered to destroy Nila’s life.

I still contend that ‘capture bonding’ and Stockholm Syndrome are the psychological conditions applied to our heroine’s current emotional state and physical needs but in reverse, her jailer is a man who has become more dependent on his captive than he could ever have believed.

Once again, the writing is brilliant; the topic controversial; and the characters are a perverse collection of dark and dangerous twisted beings. The tragedy of Nila’s existence has been determined by birth; the odds insurmountable; and a payment that must be remitted in blood.

SECOND DEBT is an intense, emotional and alarming storyline that seduces you into reading until the very end.

JETHRO
I’D TAKEN HER, but ultimately, she’d taken me.
I’d tried to destroy her, but serendipitously, she’d destroyed me.
This was the beginning of the end.
Not the end of my feelings for her but the way of my life, my world.
Something would have to change.
Something would have to give…

Someone would have to die.
NILA
I EXISTED WITH a brain full of betrayal, schemes, and plotting.
Living with the Hawks was utterly exhausting. Every day was a challenge to figure out the truths from the lies. But no matter how hard I worked, I could never seem to unravel reality from fiction.
He’d won.
And with a winner came a loser. One triumphant and one depressed. A trophy over misery.
Two days had passed since Kestrel had granted the truth to one huge mystery. Two days in which I hadn’t been able to think of anything else.
I wanted to hate Jethro for duping me—for stringing me along like an idiot.
But whenever my anger boiled over, needing desperately to confront him, I remembered one thing.
One important, vital thing.
He’d initiated contact before he was told.
He’d communicated with me almost as if it were a cry for help, rather than a plot to deceive.
If this were another trick, then so help him, I’d find a way to castrate him.
But, somehow, I didn’t think it was.
I had a horrible feeling this was the one way that he would let me in. An avenue of truths that he felt comfortable enough to continue, because a silent written word didn’t have as much weight as a loudly spoken one.
Which brought me back to my vitally important conclusion:
Jethro wants to be honest.
He wanted to stop playing charades and show me everything he kept hidden.
He wanted to talk to someone. Perhaps, for the first time in his life, he wasn’t satisfied with the hand life dealt him and…
Stop fabricating excuses.
All day, I’d been coming up with theories on why he was how he was and reading too far into things that he’d done.
It could be as simple as: he’d been told to get in touch. Told to initiate contact in a way that could potentially mould me into a more submissive captive, especially if I were to believe he was on my side.
I wanted to believe he’d acted against his father. But no matter how much I wished it, it didn’t make it was true.
How do you explain the knowing then?
I slouched against my pillows in bed. That was true. A part of me just seemed to know. Call it either sheer idiocy or feminine intuition. I believed he’d texted me because I was the first outsider permitted into his world—the only one not a Hawk.
My brain hurt.
When we were alone, when we weren’t arguing or fighting, there was an enchanting calmness. A connection.
Closing my eyes, I let my mind skip back to Kes’s unwilling promise. The way his eyes had darkened with secrets as I’d collapsed into his arms from the vertigo spell two days ago.
“Nila?”
A crushing headache appeared from nowhere. It was the most I could do to stay present and not permit my mind to relive every text Jethro had sent to see the hidden agendas now that I knew it was him.
“I’m—I’m okay. You can let me go.” I struggled out of Kes’s embrace, my skin humming from his touch. I needed some space. I needed a world full of space to get over the treachery and lies.
“You didn’t know? You hadn’t guessed?” Kes crossed his arms, never taking his golden eyes from mine.
I glowered. “How could I know? I thought the messages were from you!”
He flinched. “Yes, that was the plan. To make you believe it was me, so he could continue on with whatever little mind games he was playing.” Leaning closer, he added, “I haven’t been privy to any of the messages he sent you or you sent him—so don’t feel like I’ve intruded on details that I shouldn’t.”
Anger infused my blood. “If you were both in on it—why didn’t he show you the messages? Why were you so nice to me? What does all of this mean?”
Kes moved away, reclining against a sapling. “I was nice because that’s just who I am. Yes, I come from a family with twisted up morals and I’m loyal to those twisted up morals, but I also did it out of loyalty to my brother. If you’re pissed, direct it all on him. Not me.”
“Oh, believe me. I’m pissed. Beyond pissed.” My hands balled as my mind filled with crazy ideas of retribution and revenge. I would make him pay.
“I’d cool down before you spring it on him. Best to keep it quiet. Cut doesn’t know. It was just me who knew Jet had been in touch with you before he was given the go-ahead to collect you in Milan.”
I froze. “Why did he initiate conversation with me almost five weeks before he could claim me?”
Kes shook his head. “The day I understand my brother is the day I’ll gamble my entire inheritance on the stock market. I can’t work him out. The only thing I can do is be there for him. And I only found out ‘cause he changed pretty much around the same time he started messaging you. Something was different—we’re close. So, I saw it before the others.”
My brain throbbed trying to figure out just what had changed in Jethro. He’d seemed the perfect Hawk when he’d come to collect me. Cold as ice and deadly as a sword.
Now that I knew his secret, I had power. And I had no intention of giving that power back. Jethro had been playing me for far too long. He’d successfully screwed with my head. It was time for payback. “Don’t tell him that I know.”
Kes’s eyes popped wide. “Pardon?”
“You heard me. Don’t tell Jethro about today. Let him continue to think I’m clueless.” My heart frothed with rage and unhappiness. I was so stupid to believe I’d gotten through to him on some level. The sex between us left both of us stripped bare. Something more than family feuds and hatred existed when he slid inside me and sent both of us shattering into dust.
I’d let him inside me. In so many ways. It was my turn to do the same.
“You know I can’t do that, Nila. As welcome as you are in our household, and as much as I like hanging out with you, I can’t betray Jet. Not after everything he’s been through.”
I pounced on the small thread of truth about my tormentor. “What has he been through, Kes? Tell me and I’ll march back to the Hall right now and tell him myself.”
Kes shifted uncomfortably, refusing to meet my eyes. “Slip of the tongue. Forget it.”
Crossing my arms, I hissed, “Fine. Seeing as you’re so capable of keeping secrets, keep this one for me.”
Kes scowled. “Keeping my own flesh and blood’s issues hidden isn’t the same thing as helping out a Weaver.”
My heart raced. If Jethro hadn’t taught me how to stand up for myself, I would’ve cowered at the thought of being so pushy with a full-grown man all alone in a forest. Now, I was raging and fully intended to get my own way. “Give me two weeks. Two weeks before you tell him that I know. Do that and I’ll be forever grateful.”
His shoulders slumped in defeat. “How can you be forever grateful when forever isn’t something anyone has.”
Especially me, seeing as my lifespan was destined to be significantly shorter than his.
“Just…please, Kestrel. One favour.”
It took him a while to give in. His allegiance to his brother was strong.
Finally, he huffed. “Fine. But it won’t save you from his temper when he finds out.”
However, I had no intention of suffering Jethro’s wrath. I had every right to deceive him after he did it to me. My revelations were safe—for now. I trusted that Kes wouldn’t say anything. I didn’t know why, but on some level I did trust Kes—just enough to use him in my plans. And I was fully committed to tripping Jethro up.
It was his turn to divulge things he might not have if he’d known the truth. Hiding behind the pretence that Kite was Kes had made him softer the past few weeks. I would use that chink to make the crevice I’d been trying to form since I gave him a blowjob after hunting me down.
I couldn’t think about anything else. I couldn’t focus on sketching, sewing, reading.
Nothing.
My brain was a whirly-gig of Jethro. Kite. Jethro. Kite.
And I’d had enough.
Throwing myself out of bed after another sleepless night, I wrenched back the curtains and glowered at the dismal weather.
The watery dawn did nothing to inspire either anger or contentment. The sky was grey. Fog looked like haunting ghosts, threading its ghoulish tentacles over the lower woodland of the estate. No birds chirped or sun shone.
Summer had truly abandoned us. The bite in the air shouted ‘go back to bed where it’s warm’ but my brain had no such intention.
I hadn’t relaxed for two days. I’d stared at my phone, determined to text Jethro and trip him into revealing everything he kept secret, only to stare blankly at an empty message.
Now that I knew it was him, my willingness to show so much had gone. Knowledge was power and he had too much of mine already. How could I dig deeper into his mystery while maintaining all of mine?
The answer—I couldn’t. And that made me incredibly nervous. To find out who he truly was, I had to show everything that made me real. And despite the emotional growth spurt I’d endured at the hands of the Hawks, I wasn’t ready to evolve again. I’d lost so much of myself already—how much was I prepared to leave behind before I became a perfect stranger?
“Ah!” I dug my fingers into my hair. I needed a reprieve from my racing thoughts, and I knew exactly how to do it.
Mother Nature’s sudden urge to switch seasons from summer to winter couldn’t stop my itch.
I needed fresh air, and I needed it now.
Racing around my room in the new Weaver quarters where Jethro had made me beg and come apart with his cock deep inside me, I found my black spandex shorts and highlighter pink sports bra. Pulling the clothing on, followed by my sneakers, I quickly smoothed my hair into a bun, and shot from the room.
I hadn’t worn my exercise gear since the morning of the Milan runway show. I’d sprinted until I’d collapsed off the treadmill at the hotel, hoping I could dispel my anxiety enough to hide my stupid nerves and prevent a vertigo spell in front of the press.
It had worked—mainly. Until Jethro arrived, of course.
The moment when I’d set eyes upon him, I’d been done for. He’d been so dashing with his suit, tie, and diamond pin. So perfectly refined with his elegant haircut, chiselled physique, and sculptured lips. Even though his soul was dark, his body had summoned me.
He’d called to me, and like the stupid Weaver I was, I’d followed him blindly.
Now, it’s his turn to follow my whims, my rules.
Jogging down the corridor, my racing mind and temper eased, already reacting to the stress relief I’d sought all my life.
I need him out.
It wasn’t fair. I was supposed to seduce him and make him care for me—not the other way around. I wasn’t supposed to fall for my own games.
Lust was as dangerous as love. Only it was worse because it had the power to make even the worst ideas seem plausible—and even recommended—when a sexual reward was given.
The moment Jethro gave in and kissed me, I’d betrayed more than just myself. I’d betrayed my entire family line and all the Weaver women who’d died before me.
I had feelings for him.
A dangerous softness toward my would-be-killer.
It has to end.
I had to find a way to seduce him…to make him love me, all while I kept my heart frigid and locked away in an ice fortress.
I laughed under my breath. You sound just like him. I wanted to turn into the female equivalent of his glacial shell.
Only, ice wasn’t impervious. Ice melted and succumbed to fire.
I’d proven that over the past month.
The house breathed around me with gentle heartbeats only ancient dwellings could have. Spirits of past generations lived in its walls, revenants danced in the drapery, and figments of long forgotten lovers floated through the tapestries.
A grandfather clock tick-tocked as I jogged past, showing the time at six thirty a.m.
After being privy to the business meetings with Kes and the Black Diamonds, I knew the men never got up this early. They worked late, dealing with shipments and the transportation of stones worth more than any dress I could sew. Darkness was their asset, the sun their foe.
At least I could run and be back before anyone tried to stop me.
I didn’t want them to draw the wrong conclusion that I was trying to escape again. I blinked as I ran head first into a horrendous conclusion.
Even if you found the boundary this morning, you wouldn’t leave.
My heart thumped harder at the tangled web I lived.
Freedom was something I wanted more than anything. But even if I escaped the Hawks, I would only run back into the trap of pity and vertigo. I wanted more than that. I deserved more than that.
If I found the estate edge, I wouldn’t disappear. I couldn’t.
My captivity wasn’t just about me anymore. It was about the future. It was about Jethro.
Admit it…
It was about living.
The passion, the intensity, the blazing ferocity of existing with enemies and plotting beneath their noses was a much worthier cause than sitting at home sewing for the masses.
This was about me. Me standing up for myself, and for a future I wanted, not a future already planned for me.
This was about so many twisted things.
I wrenched open the French doors at the end of the corridor and stumbled into the foggy dawn. Fresh air welcomed me and I found a reprieve from my scrambled thoughts.
I can’t forget my ultimate plan.
No matter how Jethro endeared himself to me—giving me glimpses of someone barely coping inside his wintry armor—I wasn’t going to forget my goal.
Freedom.
Not just for myself, but for the rest of my legacy. My children and their children and their children’s children would never have to go through this. I intended to be the last Weaver stolen.
It’s time for a new debt—one that owes us life, not death.
Sucking in lungfuls of crisp air, I steeled myself in what I had to do. In order to win, I had to guard my soul. I had to play along with Jethro’s mind games and hope to God I won first.
A cool breeze whistled through the trees, sounding like haunted laments. I shivered, wishing I’d brought a jacket.
You’ll be sweating in ten minutes. Ignore it.
Gritting my teeth against the cold, I bent over and stretched my quads. The tug and slow release of muscles was heaven after the stress of the past few days.
My body hummed with the knowledge it was about to run.
And run.
And run.
For fun this time, not for survival.
Bouncing on the spot, I rolled my shoulders, eyeing up the sweeping lawn before me. If I went right, I’d loop around the stables. If I went left, I’d cut through the sprawling rose garden and orchards.
Go straight.
Down the meandering path that disappeared over the horizon.
I switched from bouncing to jogging.
“And just where do you think you’re going?” a cool voice whispered through the silver fog.
I wrenched to a stop, peering behind me.
No one.
“I thought you’d realised running wasn’t a viable option, Ms. Weaver.”
His icy voice sent a strange mixture of hot and cold desire down my spine. Jethro morphed into being, seeming to solidify from the mist like a terrible poltergeist. He leaned against one of the pillars holding up the portico, crossing his arms.
My heart collapsed, unable to untangle the maze of hypocrisy between us. My skin begged for his touch. My lips tingled for his. Every inch of me craved what he could deliver.
Heat. Passion. An eruption that I felt in every cell.
But none of that was real.
And I refused to believe in trickery any longer.
Mirroring his body language, I crossed my arms. “I realise escaping isn’t a viable option. But I’m not escaping. I’m running. Running is my only option to escape the mess you’ve made.”
His jaw clenched. “The mess I’ve made?”
“Yes.” I took a step backward as he advanced. “You’re messing me up, and I’m done playing whatever it is that you’re doing.” I sucked in courage and embraced honesty. It seemed to work around him, and I needed him to see how serious I was. How hurt I was with his deception.
He’s Kite.
Bastard.
Baring my teeth, I said, “It seems I have a weakness for you, but I changed my mind. I don’t—”
A low growl escaped him. “A weakness? You call what happened between us a fucking weakness?”
My breathing ratcheted as if I’d already run two miles. “The worst kind of weakness.”
He smiled, but no mirth entered his gaze. If anything, his golden eyes were luminous with anger. “You’re the one who started it…Nila.”
I gasped at the delicious decadence of my name on his lips. The sound echoed in his mouth, shooting straight to my core.
Shit.
Jethro advanced again, his body trembling with barely veiled lust. “You’re the one who created this problem.” His hand came up, fingers slinking through my tied-up hair, tightening around the back of my skull. “I can’t hear the name Weaver without getting fucking hard. I can’t even think of you without boiling with need.”
His nose brushed against mine, his lips so damn close to stealing all my scrambled plans and sending me headfirst into a life of debauchery.
“You should never have said those two words, Ms. Weaver. I told you. We’re both fucked now.”
My mind was blank, every synapse focusing on his fingers in my hair and his mouth only millimetres from mine. “What two words?”
He chuckled. The sound was self-deprecating and almost morbid with dark intensity. “Kiss me.”
I shivered in his hold. “You’re reminding me of what started this mess, or you’re asking me to kiss you?”
Ask me. And I will. God, how I will.
I’d kiss him until I’d stripped him of his arctic armor and destroyed it, I’d lick him until I tasted his truth, and I’d bite him until I’d eaten every morsel of his soul.
I’d do all that so he had nowhere left to hide.
We stood wrapped in foggy silence. The drawn out anticipation of a kiss turned my legs to jelly. If he pressed his mouth to mine, I wouldn’t be going for my run. I would climb his body and impale myself on his cock.
Fakery be damned.
Kite’s messages and deceit be damned.
I just wanted a raw connection—with this man, who made my soul whimper for wrongness.
Jethro’s tongue slipped between his lips, hypnotising me. Then…he let me go. “No, I’m not asking you to kiss me. I won’t ever ask anything from you.”
I flinched as if he’d slapped me. “Why not?”
“Because I own you. Everything I want will be given, not requested.”
Double shit.
I should hate him. I should smite him. So, why did his every word seduce me, even while I knew his morals were chauvinistic and heartless?
Forcing my body to obey, I shoved the weakness I had for him as far away as possible. My eyes trailed down his front. He wore tan jodhpurs, black riding boots, and a tweed jacket. The bulge between his legs looked heavy and far too dangerous to be legal.
“You’ve been riding.”
A gentle gust of early morning air blew his scent directly into my nose. I inhaled, soaking my lungs in hay, horse, and all things Jethro.
He nodded, crossing his arms once again. “You run. I ride. Seems we have something else in common.”
Something other than being forced into this debt and finding each other irresistible, you mean?
“Oh, what’s that?”
Jethro stepped closer, seeming to bring shadows into the smoky light of dawn. “We both need time alone to hide from the things that chase us.” He stiffened, his eyes churning with things he refused to voice. A five o’ clock shadow decorated his strong jaw, his lips parted while his gaze was pure brimstone.
Swiftly, he cupped my cheek.
Oh, God.
Electricity instantly sparked beneath his fingertips.
Would I always suffer the rhapsody of his touch?
My skin smouldered; pinpricks of light, of fire, of hell, all burnished beneath his hold. I swayed, pressing my face harder into his palm.
He sucked in a breath, his fingers digging harder against my cheekbone.
The chemistry and need to devour each other thickened with every heartbeat.
One beat.
Two beat.
Three.
We stood there, frozen on the stoop of Hawksridge Hall just waiting for the other to move. The moment we did, our clothes would disintegrate and I would willingly let him drag me into a bush and fuck me.
Lust and tension swirled.
I had so many questions and doubts; so many reasons to hate and fear him. But when he touched me…poof.
I no longer remembered, nor cared.
We swayed closer, drawn against our will to close the aching distance.
I couldn’t breathe.
Kiss me. Please, kiss me.
The moment stretched until it hummed with overwhelming possibilities.
Then, it snapped.
Loudly.
Painfully.
Shattering around our feet.
“You’re too fucking dangerous,” Jethro muttered, removing his touch and stepping away. Dragging his hand through his hair, he commanded, “Wait here. Don’t go anywhere.” His hands went to his jacket buttons, undoing them with nimble fingers.
I blinked, struggling to shed myself of heavy need and focus on the true reason why I stood barely dressed in the freezing morning. “I’m not escaping. I’ll be back in forty minutes or so.”
He shook his head, slipping out of his tweed and revealing a black long-sleeved jumper.
My mouth went dry. Even in clothing, I could make out every ridge of muscle in his stomach, every ripple of energy as he breathed in and out. He was designed straight from my fantasies, and I hated him for being so splendid.
My core clenched, sending flutters of wetness between my legs.
I hadn’t seen him in two days, yet I’d panted after him as if he’d been missing my entire life.
If he suspected I knew that he was Kite, he hadn’t let on. After Kes had told me the truth, I’d waited for Jethro to barge into my room and swear me to secrecy.
But he hadn’t.
He didn’t look at me any differently; he gave no outward sign that his lies had begun to unravel. As much as he confounded and frustrated me, I couldn’t help admiring his perfection at hiding.
I wanted to be like him. I wanted to protect my secrets so damn well that whatever I did next would come as a surprise.
I wanted to rule him.
“I’m coming with you. Don’t leave.” He disappeared into the house, leaving me abandoned and covered in chills from both the morning air and his departure.
Jogging on the spot, I deliberated ignoring him and leaving.
Just go.
What was the worst that could happen? He’d have to chase me again. My tummy coiled at the thought. I liked that idea way too much. I liked the thought of what would happen after he found me.
The power I’d felt giving him that blowjob. The awe and attraction that’d glowed in his eyes.
I want that again.
Screw waiting like a good little captive.
Make him hunt.
And then I would make him explode.
I bolted.

Years in Nashville quickly hardened the dreamy guy who just wanted to sing and hang out with his dog. His success has given him more than enough money, even if he knows he’ll never be able to compete with his hometown hero big brother. But after Coach Carr’s heart attack, Wade comes home to help the man who helped him make the decision to chase his dreams all those years ago.

Now Wade wants to chase a new dream in his old hometown, especially since Charlene is single again after divorcing Colt. And Wade is no longer a boy unwilling to fight for what—and who—he needs.

REVIEW: GOING LONG is an adult, contemporary romance storyline by Cari Quinn. The Boys of Fall is a three book series (released concurrently) written by Cari Quinn, Erin Nicholas and Mari Carr focusing on three former high school football stars from Quinn, Texas who are called home when their former coach suffers a stroke. This is country music star Wade Bennett and Charlene Martinez’s storyline-a friends to lover/ second chance storyline for two people who have never stopped loving one another.

The focus of the story is the rekindling of a relationship between Charlene and Wade. Years earlier Wade had fallen in love with his best friend Charlene but stepped aside when his older brother Colt-the hometown star linebacker-made a play for the girl that he loved. Wade, with his heart set on a music career, headed to Nashville where his star was on the rise. But things were about to change and Wade needed to take a breather. A call from a former friend found Wade back home and making a play for the woman he has always loved. The problem-Charlene is now his brother’s ex-wife.

The prior relationship between Wade and Charlene has already been established but quickly jumps into lovers when Wade and Charlene admit their attraction and long fought love for one another. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate, and a little bit dirty. Nowhere is off limits for our couple that find themselves in a few compromising situations around town.

The secondary characters include several of the former high school football players including Jackson Brady (Out of Bounds by Erin Nicholas) and Tucker Riley (Free Agent by Mari Carr). All three storylines run parallel and simultaneously with one another but each one can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. We are introduced to Wade’s brother Colt and their sister Hollie as well as Charlene’s brother Rafe and mama Rose-each has a different opinion about our couple’s future happiness.

There is also a slight cross over with Cari’s LOST IN OBLIVION series with the inclusion of Gray Duffy and Jazz Edwards (Twisted LIO #2). Gray and Jazz are members of the rock group Oblivion and have been partnered with Wade in an attempt to change Wade’s style of music. I am not sure if Cari will include any of Wade and Charlene’s future storyline with her Lost in Oblivion series, but it was great to see Jazz and Gray looking towards their future.

GOING LONG is a fast paced, fun, and romantic storyline with a little bit of heartbreak, romance and letting go. Cari Quinn’s hometown spin on former football stars is a reminder that one’s future does not always go as planned; there is always history; an unknown secret; and a love that has never burned out. And of course, living on past glory, gives small town storylines a case of hero worship for something that once was.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: HERO is a contemporary, erotic romance storyline from the pen of Samantha Young focusing on billionaire businessman Caine Carraway and professional assistant Alexa Holland.

An horrific incident years before would irrevocably connect our couple for eternity placing Alex at the mercy of Caine Carraway. Although neither one was personally involved, it is their familial connections that reap what the family’s have sown. The storyline focuses on the building relationship between Caine and Alexa-a strangers to enemies to friends with benefits relationship that began with Caine offering Alexa a job as his PA following her firing from her most recent position.

Caine and Alexa met during a shoot where Alexa revealed her connection to Caine sending Caine into turmoil and confusion. Caine is hoping to destroy Alexa and make miserable her life for the disintegration and shattering of his family years before. What follows are Caine’s attempts to break Alexa, and Alexa’s attempts to get closer to the man with whom she is falling in love.

Alexa is a feisty, bold, defiant and dynamic personality-a personality that attracts Caine like a moth to a flame. Alexa will stand up to Caine’s acerbic rhetoric and less than welcoming manner but Caine is still in control and Alexa knows that to push too hard could mean a push out the door.

Caine is a difficult and complicated man who is determined to make Alexa’s life miserable. Alexa knows going into her job that Caine plans to break her but Alexa is more than willing to push back when Caine intends to step up his attack.

The sexual relationship is passionate, provocative, emotional and heartbreaking. Samantha Young pours her heart and soul into a heartbreaking relationship that has an end date of indeterminate time. Caine doesn’t do relationships; his past is dark and his memories even darker-friends with benefits is what Caine has to offer but Alexa sees their relationship as an affair of the heart. Alexa will go into the affair knowing that Caine intends to walk away at some time in the future. There is plenty of back and forth; push and pull throughout the story.

The secondary characters are colorful, difficult and complicated including family, friends and Caine’s ex lovers who throw a wrench or two into the couple’s relationship. We are introduced to Caine’s BFF Henry who knows Caine’s deepest, darkest secrets, and Alexa’s friend Rachel who worries that her best friend is in over her head. Alexa’s grandfather plays a significant if not controversial role in her life-one that finds Alexa at odds with their current relationship- a relationship steeped in whispers and secrets.

The world building pulls the reader into the bedroom, the boardroom, the office, and the lives of the rich and infamous. We are privy to the background information about how two families were destroyed, and the lingering betrayal and fall out.

Samantha Young writes fast paced storylines with emotion driven characters; intense and powerful images of passionate love and heartbreaking sorrow. You are pulled into a provocative world where your imagination takes flight and the drama never ends. Prepare to be seduced!

Life for Mia and Quinn is about to explode in a way she never thought possible..

•••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SOMETHING LIKE LOVE is the third installment in Monica James’s contemporary, new adult, Something Like Normal series focusing on Mia Lee and Quinn Berkeley. Because SOMETHING LIKE LOVE is the continuing story of Mia and Quinn, it should NOT be read as a stand alone; there is too much information revealed in the previous two storylines. This is NOT the final installment-Something Like Love ends on a frustrating cliffhanger.

Told from first person point of view (Mia) SOMETHING LIKE LOVE follows Quinn and Mia on their escape into Alberta, Canada. Still on the run while the people back home struggle to prove their innocence for a murder they did not commit, Quinn and Mia find an uneasy truce with Mia’s mother-a woman who abandoned Mia at three years old. While Mia struggles with the truth about her early childhood, Quinn reveals his deepest darkest secrets-ones that parallel some of Mia’s earlier years about family, abandonment and neglect.

The relationship between Mia and Quinn becomes sexual. There is no denying they have been attracted to one another since they met, but Quinn’s brother Tristan has always had eyes on the woman his brother loves. There is a slight love triangle formula that continues throughout the storyline one that will pit brother against brother for the love of a woman whose life has spiraled out of control.

SOMETHING LIKE LOVE is a graphically violent, angst filled and disturbing storyline about dysfunctional families, abuse and the law. There are some questionable plot points especially Mia’s actions and choices, which are completely distressing and difficult to understand. A debt must be paid and Mia is willing to sacrifice herself for everyone involved. She will place everyone in danger in the belief she is protecting the others from further harm. There are also continuing issues of jealousy; anger control; and the need to run as her psychotic father is always one step behind.

The world building continues as our couple face insurmountable problems on the run. Mia and Quinn find themselves in difficult situations that placed them in danger-time and again. Mia’s temper and immaturity in certain matters, threatens not only her relationship with Quinn but with her ability to survive on the run. She is a one woman wrecking ball whose has little faith in mankind because of the dark and destructive life she has lead.

I did have some issues with the author’s misinformation regarding the Canadian provinces, cities, and the reality of border crossing but these could have been alleviated with some research. I am Canadian after all… 😉

Monica James pulls the reader into a modern day story of Bonnie and Clyde. Two young lovers on the run from their pasts, their presents and the demons that continue to destroy their hopes and their dreams. SOMETHING LIKE LOVE is passionate, intense, alarming and dark. There are moments of emotional turmoil and passionate bliss followed by the painful realization that everything could end in a heartbeat or two. Let’s hope that our couple survive and their story doesn’t end like Bonnie and Clyde’s.

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SOMETHING LIKE REDEMPTION is the second installment in Monica James’s contemporary, new adult Something Like Normal series focusing on Mia (aka Paige) Lee and Quinn Berkeley. The series must be read in order. There is important information contained within each storyline and each novel ends with a cliff hanger leading to the next installment.

Told from first person point of view (Mia) the premise follows Mia and Quinn on the run from the law and from the man who wants to destroy her life. Suspected in not one but two murders in Quinn’s hometown, Mia and Quinn struggle to remain in control on the road. Mia continues to keep Quinn at arm’s length hoping to protect him from the horrors of her life but her continuous need to push Quinn away is aggravating and infuriating; at times almost impossible to accept especially when her need to run from Quinn, and her jealous behavior, places both of them in danger time and again. Mia does not want to depend on anyone and she is fast becoming dependent on the man by her side.

We follow Quinn and Mia as they make their way across country heading to Canada in search of Mia’s mother; from seedy bars to even seedier motels, beautiful scenery and busy cities, our couple battle one another while on the run, hoping someone will prove their innocence back home. Quinn’s dark secret and even darker past continues to build a wall between our couple when Quinn refuses to talk.

While on the road, the relationship between Quinn and Mia continues to build. There are moments of pure happiness followed by painful memories and the realization that they are on the run. Mia and Quinn will cross paths with a former friend and in this their life on the road will never be the same.

SOMETHING LIKE REDEMPTION is a story of revenge mixed with graphic violence, hatred and loss. Monica James pulls the reader into an intense battle of wills between Mia and Quinn; and a blossoming romance for a present day ‘Bonnie and Clyde’. Their continuing story is heartbreaking; adrenaline filled terror of action and suspense.

The Unexpected Consequences of Love Amazon | B&N | BAM | !ndigo | IndieBound | Kobo

Description:
Sophie has no interest in finding love. But what happens when love finds her?

Sophie Wells is a successful photographer with a focus on putting the past firmly behind her. When Josh Strachan returns to the seaside town of Cornwall from the States to run his family’s hotel, he can’t understand why the fun, sexy girl has zero interest in letting him-or any man for that matter-into her life. He also can’t understand how he’s been duped into employing Sophie’s impulsive friend Tula, whose crush on him is decidedly unrequited. Both girls remain mum about the reasons behind Sophie’s indifference to love. But that doesn’t mean Josh is going to quit trying…

Review:

The Unexpected Consequences of Love by Jill Mansell is a sweet romance story, which much of it is more like a romantic comedy. The setting of the story takes place in a small town of St. Carys in Cornwall. Though we do have a main couple in this story, there are quite a few others that also have big side stories.

We meet Sophie, our heroine, who is a successful photographer, while she is taking pictures at the Mariscombe House.   This hotel is owned by Dot Strachan, a sweet older woman, who welcomes her grandson, Josh, who will help her run the hotel.

Josh immediately finds himself attracted to Sophie, but is rebuffed at every turn, when he tries to get her interest. He learns quickly from others, that Sophie has no interest in men, and refuses to become involved. Josh is determined to find out what in her past has caused this beautiful, charming and vivacious Sophie to swear off men.

While Josh does his own investigations, so much else is going on. Sophie’s friend Tula loses her job and comes to St. Cary’s to stay with Sophie. In a short time, Tula will get a job working at the hotel for Josh and Dot. Riley is Josh’s best friend, and a fun loving womanizer, who finds himself falling for Tula. Of course, Tula is not interested in the handsome Riley, since she feels he is just a fun likeable guy who is a player with no responsibilities. She would much prefer someone like Josh. Unfortunately, no matter how hard Tula tries to win Josh over, he only has eyes for Sophie.

There is also a story between Dot, her ex-husband Lawrence and Antoine. It seems Lawrence left Dot years ago for Antoine’s wife. Now with years passed, the wife is deceased, and Antoine comes back and begins to show interest in Dot, much to Lawrence’s dismay, as he wants his ex-wife back.

As you can see, there are a number of storylines ongoing, with each of them having issues to open themselves up to love again. Sophie and Josh are the lead characters, and we learn why Sophie is the way she is. It will be up to Josh to show her that she needed to allow her growing feelings for him to rise, as her past was not what she thought it was.

This was a fun, sweet, and humorous story of very likable people, with each of couples having good storylines. I thought though at times it was a little cluttered going back and forth between all of them. However, I did enjoy the book, and if you like romantic comedies then The Unexpected Consequences of Love is perfect for you.

“Nearly done… Oh, it’s you.” Turning, she glimpsed him in the doorway and straightened up. Nodding at Griff, she said, “Have you come to get him? He’s shattered now. I’ve just finished the shoot.”

“I know, I saw the family driving off. And I am sorry. Dot did warn me about the door-opening thing,” Josh admitted. “I just forgot about it. Can I blame it on the jet lag?”

She gave him a look. “Only if you’re a complete wuss. You’ve had a whole week to get over it.”

Her eyes were bright and sparkling, silver-gray with very white whites. Her well-defined eyebrows were dark but tipped with gold and there was a smudge of mud on her left temple.

It wasn’t an expression he’d ever thought of using before, but it occurred to him that she had joie de vivre.

“True.” He dipped his head in acknowledgment. “All my own fault. So how did it go in the end?”

“Come over here and I’ll show you.” Leading the way across the room, she picked up her camera and began scrolling through the shots, starting with the half dozen or so pre-Griff originals, then on through the second stage of the shoot.

“These are great.” Josh nodded at them, genuinely impressed. “So it ended up not being such a disaster after all.”

“Thanks to me being a complete genius,” she agreed happily. He liked her attitude. “What’s your name?”

“Sophie.”

“Hi, Sophie. I’m Josh.”

“I know. Haven’t you noticed everyone whispering about you since you’ve been back?”

“Not really. Well, maybe a bit. You don’t take much notice after a while.” He paused. “Do you have a business card?”

She took one from an envelope in the side pocket of her black canvas camera case and handed it over.

Sophie Wells Photography. Portraits, Weddings, Commercial was written in silver on a black background, along with her contact details. Josh noticed that as well as the bracelets on her left wrist there was a key attached to a plain silver bangle. He reached out and touched it briefly. “What’s this for?”

“It’s the key to my secret Swiss bank account.” “Amazing. I didn’t know Swiss banks used Yale locks.”

A dimple appeared in her left cheek. “I started wearing it after I locked myself out of my flat three times in one week.”

“Look,” said Josh. “I still feel terrible about the photos.” “No need. I told Emma I’d do them for free.”

“But that means you’re losing out. Which is even worse.” Sophie shook her head. “They all like what we ended up doing instead. Emma’s still happy to pay.” “But their clothes…”

“They live on a farm. She says the mud’ll come out in a boil wash.” “But when I came back here with Griff, she was in tears.”

“I know, but you weren’t actually to blame for that. Relax,” Sophie said cheerfully. “It’s your lucky day. You’re off the hook.”

Women, he’d never understand them. Still, it was a positive result. Somewhat distracted by her eyelashes—were they also gold- tipped beneath the mascara?—Josh said, “Fine then. So long as you’re sure. Can I ask you a personal question?”

“You can try.”

He was charmed by her easy smile, playful humor, and feisty can-do attitude. Okay, and her body was pretty amazing too. “Are you single at the moment? Or seeing someone?”

If she were, he would have to say with good-natured regret, “Well, that’s a real shame,” and leave it at that.

“Me? Oh no, I’m not seeing anyone.” Sophie shook her head. “Completely and utterly single, that’s me.”

Excellent. Enjoying her honesty, Josh said, “So would you like to come out for dinner with me one evening?”

“It would have to be an evening.” Sophie nodded gravely. “Otherwise it wouldn’t be dinner; it’d be breakfast or lunch.”

“Definitely evening,” he agreed. “We could do it tonight if you like.” This is going so well.

“Oh, I can’t.”

“Yes, bit short notice. Friday, then? Or Saturday? You choose, whenever suits you best.”

But even as he was saying it, Sophie was shaking her head. “Sorry, no… I mean, thanks for asking, but I can’t meet you for dinner.”

“Right.” Taken aback, Josh said, “Not at all?” “No.”

“Okay. That’s fine.” It wasn’t remotely fine. What was going on? Did she have a small baby at home, or an elderly relative who couldn’t be left unattended? “Am I allowed to ask why?”

Her eyes sparkled. “Oh dear, are you offended?” “Of course not,” lied Josh.

Sophie gave him a who-are-you-kidding look. “I think you are. Don’t be. I’m just pretty busy right now.”

“So maybe in a couple weeks?” He couldn’t quite believe he was still asking.

“Look, thanks again, but no thanks. I just don’t really want to go out to dinner with…anyone.”

Aaaand another knock-back.

“No problem.” Josh wished he’d never started it. “Sorry.”

He managed a rueful smile. “Hey, all I need is a few months for my ego to recover. I’ll be fine.”

“It’s not you.” Sophie’s mouth was twitching. “It’s me.”

Okay, now she was making fun of him.

“Well, obviously,” said Josh..

The rules:

No dating.
No sex outside of the game.
No disclosing the terms of the contract.

Rules were made to be broken, right?

Eight weeks ago I signed a contract. One that seemed like a good idea at the time. A handsome bachelor, luxury accommodations, and a chance to win a prize my family desperately needed. There were some rules though. Lots of them actually. Follow the script, no dating, sex, or disclosing the terms of the deal. After my self-imposed moratorium on men the last year, it wouldn’t be hard to live up to my end of the bargain…so I thought. Until I realized the deal I’d made was with the devil…and I was in love with his dirty-talking brother

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THROB is the first storyline in Vi Keeland’s adult, contemporary, new erotic romance series. This is movie executive Cooper Montgomery and poker player/ card dealer Kate Monroe’s storyline.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Kate and Cooper) the storyline focuses on THROB-a ‘reality’ television program akin to The Bachelor with a little bit of Survivor thrown in for good measure, where twenty young women vie for the attention of one man and a chance at $250,000. Kate Monroe will make it to the final four but not before falling in love with someone else-a man who is closely connected to the production company but a man whose need for Kate will completely pull her in another direction.

Cooper Montgomery is the man who will promise Kate the future. When Kate’s contract specifies no outside love interests, no dating and no sex, Cooper Montgomery will be forced to do something he doesn’t want to do in order to protect Kate from the media and potential ramifications of breaking the rules-Cooper will walk away from Kate leaving a heartbroken woman to pick up the pieces of her shattered soul.

The relationship between Cooper and Kate is one of immediate attraction. Introduced while playing a high end game of poker, Cooper is drawn to Kate like no other woman before. Their relationship begins to unfold and in this Kate risks everything to be with the man she is growing to love. The $ex scenes are intimate, arousing and hot. Cooper knows that for Kate to become involved outside of the show, is professional suicide when it comes to the final flower ceremony. But Kate is desperate to win the $250,000, and her reasons are personal and rest heavily at home.

The secondary and supporting characters include Cooper’s half brother Miles-a man whose hatred for his older brother is misdirected. We are introduced to Kate’s roommate and best friend Sadie Warner-a Hollywood lawyer-who pushes Kate to take a chance with Cooper Montgomery. Flynn is our rock and roll bachelor; a man who begins to fall in love with the beautiful Kate but a man who knows that Kate’s heart belongs to someone else. There is also the requisite jealous ex; an assortment of cast and crew that follow Kate wherever she goes; and Jessica, who becomes Kate’s main rival on the reality show THROB.

The world building takes the reader into the back room negotiations and casting couches of some of the biggest producers in the business. The ‘unreality’ of reality TV is front and center when a scripted reality finds Kate doing things she doesn’t want to do in order to keep the ratings alive. Reality TV has never looked so ‘unreal’.

Vi Keeland pulls the reader into a storyline of heartbreak and betrayal; friends and family; falling in love and letting go. There are emotional moments of intimacy, drama and passion; and painful moments of betrayal and revenge. THROB is in intimate look at two people who have found love in the right place but at the wrong time. Kate and Cooper’s story is imaginative and exotic. Vi Keeland has penned another winner in THROB.

Every girl needs three things
1. A flutter in her belly when she meets him for the first time.
Meet Cooper
My lips brush the top of her hand lightly, my tongue sneaking out to fleetingly touch her skin. The brief contact stirs an ache inside me. This woman tugs at something—more than arousal—something that makes me want to slow down time just to spend a few more minutes standing here.
“Did you just…” she stammers a bit.
“Did I just what?”
She squints at me. “You know.”
“Do I?”
“I felt your tongue on my hand. You…you licked me.”
I’d been dying to run my tongue along her neck all evening, although I hadn’t really meant to be so crude about it. It just sort of …happened. “I wouldn’t say licked, maybe just a little taste.”
“So you tasted me?”
My entire body suddenly has interest in this conversation. “I suppose I did. But it wasn’t nearly enough. That brings us back to my invitation for dinner. Tomorrow night?”
“I can’t.”
“The day after then?”
She laughs and shakes her head. The sound makes me smile.
“Good night, Cooper.” She pulls the driver’s side door shut and leaves me standing there…for a full five minutes after she’s gone.
2. A best friend to talk about him to.
Meet Sadie
“And?”
“And I kissed him when we were in his office.”
“How was his office?”
“Really? That’s what you want to know. Not how was the kiss or aren’t you in breach of your contract? How was his office?”
“You can tell a lot about a man by his office.”
I gulp another unladylike sip from my wine glass. “His office was beautiful. Sleek, overlooking the city. It oozed power.”
“Nice. Bet he fucks like he owns you.”
The thought of what he’s like in bed is enough to make me lose my train of thought.
“Go on,” Sadie prods.
I don’t continue immediately.
“You forgot what you were up to because you were thinking of him fucking you like he owns you, didn’t you?” My best friend smirks knowingly.
“Shut up.” I pause. “Anyway, I don’t know what I’m going to do.”
“Well, him. Obviously.”
“I wish it were that easy.”
3. A gentleman that turns into a bossy dirty talker in the bedroom.
Cooper – behind closed doors.
“You haven’t even begun to see bossy yet. Tonight I’m going to tell you to do things, and you’re going to do them. When I tell you to open wider, or take my cock deeper, you’re going to listen. You know why? Because since the moment we met, all I’ve wanted to do is make you feel good. Hell, I don’t even need to get off physically. Because I’m going to get off watching you every minute. So, yeah, I’m going to be bossy. Now let’s put the rest of this behind us. Do you want to be with me tonight?”
After that prelude, I nod my head fast. I’m no fool. Who wouldn’t?

REVIEW: ROUGH JUSTICE is the first installment in Sarah Castille’s new, contemporary, adult Sinner’s Tribe Motorcycle Club erotic romance series focusing on the members of the Sinner’s Tribe MC. This is club president Jagger Knight and Arianne Hunter’s storyline- a story of forbidden love, betrayal and revenge.

Told from third person point of view ROUGH JUSTICE focuses on an attack against the Sinners Tribe MC by a rival club that resulted in one member dead, their club house destroyed and Arianne Hunter –a prisoner of the Sinner’s Tribe MC. Left behind at the scene of the crime, Arianne finds herself not so much a prisoner but owned by the club president. Believing Arianne was a party to the death and destruction, the Sinner’s Tribe members want to make an example out of her but Jagger sees something different in Arianne-he sees a possible future, if only a temporary one.

The attraction between Arianne and Jagger is immediate but one of forbidden love. As a member of the rival MC, Arianne is off limits but it is her true identity that will force Jagger to think long and hard about what it is he wants and what he now has to do. Arianne refuses to return to her old club but her reasons are more complicated and darker than Jagger could have known.

Jagger is a powerful, alpha male; a dominant club president whose word is law and he is the final authority. Nothing is done without his permission but saying that he is a man with a heart-buried deep within a scarred chest-but a heart that believes all women should be protected. Jagger has a softer side, one that does not go unnoticed by his fellow club brethren when he begins to lose focus on what is important to the club. Loyalties and leadership will be questioned. When one of his fellow club brothers targets Arianne for justice, Jagger must step up and enforce the MC laws.

Arianne is a strong willed woman determined to leave town and start a new life away from the destructive nature of the biker lifestyle. She has faced death, experienced assault and brutal beatings but it is her love for her brother that has forced Arianne to make the decision to run. Saying that, our heroine, is torn between wanting to leave and remaining a part of Jagger’s life. In this, there is a continuous push and pull throughout the storyline; Arianne runs hot and cold. Our heroine believes herself to be capable of self preservation and survival but at times it will take an emotional and angry Jagger to save her from herself and others.

The supporting and secondary characters are numerous including many members of the Sinner’s Tribe MC. We are introduced to Jagger’s fellow bikers including Cade, Zane, Axle and Wheels as well as Banksy, the local bar owner whose background is secretive and dark. Arianne’s family plays a dangerous role in her need to run but none more so than a father who views his daughter as less than worthy.

ROUGH JUSTICE is a graphically violent storyline about betrayal, revenge and justice but not as graphic as some of the current MC series on the market. The language is strong but, again, not as explicit as other stories in the same genre. Don’t get me wrong, this is definitely an adult storyline, with adult and erotic situations, graphic language and depictions of violence, with lots of sex between our H/h but the brutality is not always ‘in your face’; some of the situations take place behind the scenes or as part of a memory and backstory; and the language is tempered in comparison. There are some issues of repetition and redundancy but overall your eyes should not bleed after reading the story.

Sarah Castille does a wonderful job with the first storyline in her new Sinner’s Tribe MC series. With the introduction of many of Jagger’s fellow club brothers, we get a little background into their history, their heartbreak and their connections to one another. If you are new to the MC genre, the Sinner’s Tribe MC series by Sarah Castille is a must read; get your feet wet with ROUGH JUSTICE and club president Jagger Knight.

excerpt

She didn’t have to look up to know Jagger was watching her. She could feel his gaze burning into her skin, but instead of intimidating her, his frank interest made her bold. Lifting her head, she shook off her fear, and met his stare full-on, smiling before she dropped her gaze. Confident, not challenging. That was the key.

And from the smile that spread across his lips when she reached the table, she could tell she’d played it just right.

“Vexy.” The deep rumble of his voice vibrated through her body, sending a rush of heat straight to her core. And he’d remembered to use her road name.

“Nice to see you again.” And she meant it. She’d been fantasizing about him all week, mentally stripping off his clothes, running her hands over the breadth of his shoulders, his massive chest, those taut abs, and then lower, tugging off his belt, her own heat rising as she ripped open his fly. Power, barely contained, beneath her, above her. Inside—

Jagger gave a satisfied rumble, as if her words—or her face—had settled something in his mind.

“What can I get you?”

“I’ll start with some of this.” The Devil Dog seated be- side Jagger pinched Arianne’s ass.

Without hesitation, Arianne grabbed his wrist and twisted his arm behind his back. “I’m afraid my ass isn’t on the menu.”

Wham. Jagger thudded a knife on the table between the outstretched fingers of the biker’s free hand. “You don’t fucking touch her. You don’t talk to her. You don’t look at her. And you sure as fuck don’t disrespect her.”

The table stilled. If he had been any other man, she might have thanked him verbally, or she might have pointed out that his actions were dramatic and unnecessary, since she had the situation in hand. But he wasn’t just any man. He was an outlaw biker president, and his actions weren’t directed solely at saving her ass from a squeeze. In that brief exchange, he’d laid down the law for the bikers on both sides of the table. First, he was in charge. And second, Arianne belonged to him.

So she gave him a simple nod of thanks. Her response seemed to please him. His face softened almost imperceptibly as he unclasped her hand from the Devil Dog’s wrist, then tugged until she released her captive. Her skin tingled at his touch, and when he rubbed this thumb lightly over her knuckles, she felt each stroke as a throb between her thighs.
