Interview with Cover Model Michael Senich

INTERVIEW with Cover Model -Michael Senich

With the recent release of Ruth Clampett’s WORK OF ART 3-The Masterpiece, The Reading Cafe has the privilege to interview the cover model Michael Senich.

TRC: Hi Michael. Welcome to The Reading Cafe.

We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Follow Michael: Facebook/ Twitter/ Instagram/

MIchael Senich 3Michael: I’m a ranger which means that I grew up in the Iron Range of Minnesota. Even though I was born in Minneapolis I spent most of my childhood in Hibbing, Minnesota. My mother was a Korean Immigrant and my father a true northerner so I’ve absorbed a pretty unique mix of culture in my life that I am only now beginning to appreciate. This appreciation fuels my passion for the modeling and photography industry. It makes the experiences I have collected in the last few years invaluable.

TRC: What were your dreams and aspirations growing up?

Michael: I’ve always been a bit of an idealist and so I wanted to go to college and change the world. I still believe in that change and these dreams have only grown from broad and simple ideas to a wide variety of interests and passions. I want to do it all – Model, Act, Dance, and Sing – and I take every opportunity to do so; in public, in private, and everywhere.

TRC: When not modeling, what are your other interests? Do you have a ‘day job’?

Michael: I approach all my interests with a level of intensity that sometimes overwhelms my friends, whom I love dearly. I love dance, and the freedom of expression that it allows. With dance comes music and the two combined, surrounded by my good friends, has delivered me some of the best times of my life.

Work of ArtTRC: You were first brought to our attention through the covers of Ruth Clampett’s WORK OF ART series. Who first approached you about the covers
and what was your reaction to appearing on the covers throughout the entire series?

Michael: Ruth and I met on twitter. I read her stories online and began to participate in that online community and provide feedback. I think Ruth felt connected to me because I was one of the only men that participated, loved her stories, and was vocal about it. She approached me about the covers and I was ecstatic to both help a friend whose work I admire, and ply my craft at the same time. I flew out to LA; serendipitously the same weekend of my cousin’s birthday. I was able to spend time with a close relative that I hadn’t seen in years, work, reunite with Ruthy and meet her colleagues. To be featured in all three was an honor and I always smile when I see a copy as it reminds me of that great experience.

TRC: What first sparked your interest in modeling? Is there a defining moment where you knew that modeling was something you were interested in pursuing?

Michael: I think I’ve always wanted to model or be in media but I didn’t talk about it or even realize that I truly aspired to be a model until I went on a study abroad trip to Rome. While there I grew into myself a lot, gained a lot of confidence and experience and met very interesting friends who I could be open with. When I told my friends I was truly interested in pursuing modeling they were supportive and made me feel like I could do it and become a part of that industry. Just the knowledge that there were people who believed in my ability was a revelation and jump started my interest in finding work.

Work of Art 2TRC: Have you ever had a photo shoot that went completely wrong?

Michael: One shoot sticks out in particular. In college I had an appointment at a photo studio across town and no car. I left at 5:00 AM on a bike to collect my passport as a second form of ID. I arrived very early, out of breath, and somewhat flustered from racing to the morning errands. I ended up not even need the second ID but the photographers and staff were very gracious and helped me to gain my composure. The shoot was part of a national Target ad campaign, my first big shoot. It found it funny that on the day of what was my most important job nothing went smoothly yet somehow we still delivered.

TRC: Many photo shoots take the model to exotic locations. What has been your favorite location to shoot? Least favorite location (and why)?

Michael: My favorite experience is still very fresh. I had the opportunity to travel with my significant other, who is a photographer. We did a shoot that I’m very excited about. To work, just-the-two of us, in a beautiful tropic location is something that I’m lucky to have experienced. My least favorite location is really a range of temperatures. Minnesota’s winters are harsh and working in the cold and wind is incredibly uncomfortable and also poses a wonderful challenge.

TRC: Nudity in modeling or acting can be controversial. Some pictures can cross the line between sexuality to pornography. What would you tell young models/actors /body builders just entering the business about nude modeling and photography?

Photograph: Alexander Just

Michael Senich 1-Alexandra JustMichael: My opinion about nudity is that it has its time and place. I have a science background from my college years and am fascinated by the human body. I enjoy fine art; sculpture and painting that often uses the nude form. However, there are some guidelines that might help make these sorts of decisions. First, the internet is expansive and fast. You must think about and understand who your audience is or might be. While you have some control over that audience, in reality you should be completely comfortable with everyone that could see that work. Second you should be aware of the scope of work and exactly what you are being asked to do. Thirdly, if you already understand the scope and the potential audience and feel comfortable and confident – then I say go for it.

TRC: The modeling industry exposes you to many people and sometimes it can be very stressful. At times do you feel alone, surrounded by so many people?

Michael: No, because being around people energizes me.

MIchael Senich images

TRC: At times, there has been a ‘stigma’ surrounding the male model and the romance-cover industry but the popularity of the romance storyline has skyrocketed in the last few years especially with the erotic and sensual cover images. What is your opinion about the recent popularity and the very busy industry of the ‘romance cover model’?

Michael: The stigma doesn’t really make sense to me because I love that industry and have met so many wonderful people through it. It’s hard for me to focus on a perceived negative of something I truly enjoy. I think the recent popularity enforces my opinion that people will respond to things that they are passionate about. Worrying about stereotypes is an unnecessary distraction from very fun and fulfilling work.

TRC: Do you know the number of novel covers that your image has appeared?

Michael: I don’t actually know but I’d love to know how to find out.

TRC: Do you remember the first ‘romance cover’ on which you appeared?

Intercepting LoveMichael: My first romance cover was for L.P. Dover and her book, Intercepting Love. Regina Wamba introduced us and took the photos. She has been an invaluable resource here in the Twin Cities.

TRC: Do you have a favorite cover-romance image or otherwise? (e.g. magazines, ads etc)

Michael: To be very specific my favorite cover in a magazine is a 2013 issue of Paris Vogue titled Un Homme Et Une Femme. As the title suggests the cover is of a man and woman posed in black and white. For some reason I really reacted to this shot; enough that I still remember the issue precisely today.

TRC: Would you please tell us what you do to relax?

Michael: I absolutely love to sleep; maybe the only time I truly relax. The catch-22 is that I’m also a night owl so there is a competition between the sleep that I love and enjoying whatever company I’ve come across for a little while longer.

Work of Art The MasterpieceTRC: What three things would you like to accomplish in the next five years?

Michael: My first goal is to go back to grad school for Public Health which is another area of interest that I have. I’ve always thought if the stars aligned I would be modeling full-time and believe that is still a possibility that I’d love to explore. I’d love to break into other media forms as well and have thought before about making dance videos or expanding into other areas of the industry.

TRC: What is something that few, if anybody, knows about you?

Michael: My close friends and obviously my family know, but when I meet new people they are often shocked to learn that my mother is Korean. I think being mixed race gives me a very unique look though my Serbian side is dominant.

TRC: On what on your currently working?

Photograph: Ivan Diaz

Michael Senich. 2-Ivan DiazjpgMichael: I recently had the chance to go on amazing trip to live and work in the Virgin Islands for a handful of months. I’m currently working on getting back into the groove of my Minneapolis life and starting a new path through the city.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Michael: I’d like to comment that the questions above were overall very on point and made me consider my answers carefully. I learned things I hadn’t verbalized before so thank you.

And I Love Her
Green Mountain series – Book #4
by Marie Force
Release Date: March 3, 2015

Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / The Book Depository / BAM

Description:
As the oldest of the ten Abbott siblings, Hunter prides himself on his ability to solve other people’s problems, but now he has a problem of his own—how to convince the woman of his dreams that his love is for keeps.

As the chief financial officer, Hunter Abbott manages the family’s various business interests while “fixing” things for the people he loves. But the one thing he can’t fix is his undeniable attraction to Megan Kane. Instead, Hunter is prepared to do whatever it takes to show Megan that he’s the man for her.

Megan’s sister rocks her with the news that she and her husband are moving overseas, leaving Megan truly alone. With her sister—and her job at the diner—going away, Megan finds herself leaning on the sexy, button-down accountant who isn’t afraid to lay it all on the line for her. But Megan has watched too many people she loves leave her. Can she risk her heart on Hunter?

Review:

And I Love Her by Marie Force is the 4th book in her wonderful contemporary romance series, Green Mountain. This story belongs to Hunter, the oldest Abbott son, and Megan Kane. We have known for a while that Hunter secretly cares about Megan from a distance. Everyone knows that Megan only had eyes for Hunter’s brother Will. But in the last book, Will met Cameron, who was his mate.   Megan accepted that Will is happy with someone one else, and we learn early on, that she mentally used her fantasy of Will to hide her emotional issues of becoming involved with anyone. This of course, opens the door for Hunter to make Megan realize that he is the brother who does care about her.

Hunter is such a sweetheart. He is the one in the family who watches over them, the financial genius and the big brother to all. When Megan learns that her sister and brother in law will be moving to France; the world as she knows it is changing. Hunter finds her hiding and crying. From that point, Hunter grabs hold of the opportunity to let Megan know she is not alone, and he has cared about her all these years. What follows is a beautiful love story between two people who are very different, but both needing each other. Hunter shows his love to a surprised Megan, who despite her fears to open her heart to love, will find it harder each passing day to resist the wonderful handsome sexy man who professes to love her.

Hunter is perfect for Megan, as he slowly melts her heart, while understanding how fragile she is. Having lost her parents years ago, Megan is afraid to love and be hurt again. This was a fun, and later on a very steamy sexy story. But best of all is spending time with the Abbot family that makes up Green Mountain, and they are such a great group of characters that we have come to love. I enjoyed seeing Hannah, and watching her closeness to her twin brother, Hunter. The cammaderie between them all is fun. Megan finds herself in the midst of this big family, whom openly accepts her, as to them she has made Hunter happy. But when an accident happens the fears bring everything crumbling down for Megan, which will also cause some uncomfortable situations with the family. Will she be able to get past her fears to stay with Hunter? Can Hunter convince Megan loving him is worth any risk?

And I Love Her was a wonderful sweet romance, with a great couple that will burn up the pages. It is also a story of a big close knit family that has their own private issues, which I am sure we will learn more about in the following books in this wonderful series.   Marie Force does such a fabulous job with each of her couples, winning us totally over. I love the Abbot Family and Green Mountain series. If you enjoy romance, sexy couple, family atmosphere, then this series is a must for you.

BEYOND THE DARKNESS (Darkness #3) by Katie Reus-a review

Former black ops agent Bran Devlin is a born dragon Alpha and leader of a fierce clan. Getting mated was never part of his plan—until a feisty dragon princess gets under his skin in a big way. He plays along, but when a dark and powerful being marks her for death, he’s determined to stay by her side in spite of her protests. Now that he’s found his mate, he means to keep her safe no matter what the cost…even if he has to risk it all.

••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: BEYOND THE DARKNESS is the third installment in Katie Reus’s contemporary adult Darkness paranormal romance series. This is Devlin Clan dragon alpha and former black ops agent Bran Devlin, and dragon shifter princess Keelin Petronilla’s storyline. Keelin is the sister of Drake Petronilla from book two-Taste of Darkness. Told from third person point of view, Beyond the Darkness can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Keelin is a fifteen hundred year old dragon whose over protective parents, along with their daughter, went into Protective Hibernation when their eldest son Drake went missing and was presumed dead. For hundreds of years, Keelin had been isolated from the world and it is only in the past year that Keelin has come out of hibernation into a world very different from what she had known. But something or someone is after Keelin, and it isn’t Bran Devlin-the male who wants to claim her as his mate. Keelin has been targeted by an unknown source and more than one dragon shifter female has gone missing in recent weeks. Keelin has already had to endure torture and abuse at the hands of demons and she isn’t willing to go down without a fight.

Bran Devlin is an alpha dragon male whose internal beast knows Keelin is his mate. But convincing Keelin is another thing. She has recently freed herself from her parent’s Protective Hibernation and she is in no mood to be mated to another overprotective male. While Bran pursues Keelin, he is also on a mission to uncover the truth behind the missing female dragons.

The relationship between Keelin and Bran is one of immediate and palpable attraction. Dragons have their very own stylized ‘mating ritual’ and whenever our couple are near one another there is no denying their wants and needs, even though Keelin continues to deny her inner dragon. The $ex scenes are emotional, intense and fiery hot, and Keelin’s brothers are not impressed with the nightly light show 😉 .

The secondary characters include all of the previous storyline couples including Finn Stravros-alpha shifter of the Stavros Wolf Pack; Keelin’s brothers Conall and Drake, as well as Drake’s wolf shifter mate Victoria. There is a developing storyline and relationship between half-demon night club owner Bo and Keelin’s best friend Nyx-a woman whose own heritage is controversial and not without some questionable relations. We are introduced to Keelin’s over protective parents who remained in hibernation with their only daughter to ensure that she was safe from harm. The Akkadian demons are hell bent on destruction; they make another appearance in Beyond the Darkness.

Katie invites the reader into her amazing and fascinating world of shifters, vampires, dragons and demons. Her heroes are alpha male, a little bit over protective, but only have eyes for the woman of their heart. There is always plenty of testosterone when the alpha males move in to protect the females and their mates. Katie knows how to get your blood pumping.

ROCK HARD (Rock Kiss #2) by Nalini Singh

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 10, 2015

Wealthy businessman Gabriel Bishop rules the boardroom with the same determination and ruthlessness that made him a rock star on the rugby field. He knows what he wants, and he’ll go after it no-holds-barred.

And what he wants is Charlotte Baird.

Charlotte knows she’s a mouse. Emotionally scarred and painfully shy, she just wants to do her job and remain as invisible as possible. But the new CEO—a brilliant, broad-shouldered T-Rex of a man who growls and storms through the office, leaving carnage in his wake—clearly has other plans. Plans that may be equal parts business and bedroom.

If Charlotte intends to survive this battle of wits and hearts, the mouse will have to learn to wrangle the T-Rex. Game on.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: ROCK HARD is the second full length installment in Nalini Singh’s adult, contemporary Rock Kiss erotic romance series. This is wealthy businessman and former ruby player Gabriel Bishop and personal assistant Charlotte Baird’s storyline. Charlotte is Molly Webster’s best friend whom we met in the prequel novella Rock Addiction. ROCK HARD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from third person point of view, the focus of the storyline is on the building relationship between Gabriel and Charlotte. Gabriel is the new owner and CEO of Saxon and Archer Corp, and is in the process of cleaning ‘house’ when he is introduced to the quiet, shy, mousy and intelligent Charlotte Baird. When Gabriel offers Charlotte the position as his new personal assistant, Charlotte begins to bloom in her role within the company but Gabriel begins to notice that everything is not right within Charlotte’s world. As Gabriel begins to fall for his new PA, his own past makes another attempt at forgiveness and hope.

Part of the premise looks at a terrifying time in Charlotte’s past; a past that has shaped her present, forcing her to withdraw and hide behind drab colors, frumpy clothes and an unattractive hair style. Charlotte’s past is mired in betrayal and pain, and she has never quite learned to deal with the aftermath and recurring PTSD.

The relationship between Gabriel and Charlotte begins as employee and employer, and slowly moves into something more. Gabriel is reluctant to make any advances towards his new PA although his attraction to her is complicated and immediate. For months Gabriel makes requests of Charlotte to purchase gifts and send flowers to an assortment of women in his life, while Charlotte slowly grows despondent in her attraction to her new boss. She isn’t the type of woman Gabriel is attracted to but that doesn’t stop Charlotte from fantasizing about the possibilities. There is plenty of sexual tension as our couple dance around one another for a good portion of the story. The sex scenes are intimate and personal, but are limited to the final few chapters in the story.

The secondary and supporting characters include a few fellow employees; Charlotte’s former roommate and BFF Molly; Gabriel’s extended and close knit family; as well as Charlotte’s ex boyfriend whose hold and obsession over Charlotte controls everything that she does.

The world building takes a departure from the previously music themed storylines and focuses on big business and millionaires with dark and tormented pasts. The only connection to the previous two storylines is the friendship between Charlotte and Molly Webster –first introduced in Rock Addiction.

ROCK HARD is, thus far, my favorite Rock Kiss installment. Nalini has found her niche; her groove; her momentum within the contemporary romance genre with ROCK HARD. The flow of the storyline is smooth and evenly paced. Although the premise is a familiar one -wealthy CEO meets broken, virginal damsel in distress-the storyline works as it reads with more maturity than the previous two installments-a diversion from the New Adult feel and premise.

excerpt

Charlotte arrived at work at seven thirty the next morning to find Gabriel Bishop’s office door open, but no carnivorous predator inside. A fresh suit was hanging on the back of his door, however, which meant he’d been in already.
Deciding to catch up on e-mails that had come in overnight from international suppliers as well as stores involved in a stock take, she was typing a reply when a sweaty Gabriel arrived fifteen minutes later. He was dressed in black running shorts and a faded University of Auckland T-shirt that was currently sticking to his body.
She’d known he was in shape, but now she realized none of it was an illusion created by his well-cut suits. Okay, she’d already known that, but seeing his muscled body in the flesh was a whole different ball game. He was built like a tank, hard and powerful.
Each of his thighs was thicker than both of hers put together, his biceps toned, his shoulders appearing even wider than usual. Everything about him was big. Civilized clothing didn’t make him look better, she realized—it toned down his intense masculinity. Out of his suits, with the ink on the upper part of his left arm exposed, as well as that on his opposing thigh and…
Her skin hot and lower body clenching, she just nodded in response to his “Good morning.”
Disappearing into his office, he returned with his suit pants and a fresh shirt slung over his arm, along with a sports bag. “Push the meeting with Sales to nine, will you, Ms. Baird? I need to talk to HR about something before then.”
“Yes, sir,” Charlotte said almost soundlessly, but he was already gone, heading toward the employee shower one floor down.
The thigh tattoo went all the way around, the design intricate.
Heart rate a rapid stutter, Charlotte got up after he disappeared and decided to go grab him a coffee. He’d bought her one yesterday after all. She was just being nice. “Oh, shut up, Charlotte,” she muttered once she was in the elevator, and slumped her face into an upraised hand.
The truth was she was running away. Only for a few minutes, but that’s what this was: strategic retreat. Gabriel Bishop was overwhelming. Once, before she’d ever met him and under the influence of cocktails, she’d told Molly she wanted to rip off his shirt and sink her teeth into his pecs.
That desire hadn’t waned even now that she knew he was a T-Rex. Of course, the desire was all strictly in her imagination. The idea of actually handling him in real life? So impossible as to be laughable. Charlie-mouse was not about to play with a predator who could eat her alive and not even notice the bones. The good news was that she could admire him in relative safety—there was no chance in hell he’d ever notice her as a woman.
Getting the coffee from a nearby café, she took it back upstairs. He was in his office when she entered, the striped dark gray of his tie hanging around his neck and his damp hair roughly combed. The scent of clean, fresh soap over warm skin permeated the office. Shooting her a smile that turned him from gorgeous to flat-out devastating, he flipped up the collar of his white shirt to get the tie in place. “Thank you, Ms. Baird.”
Nodding, Charlotte escaped, though she really wanted to stay. She’d never realized how erotic it was to watch a man dress until this precise moment. And she shouldn’t be having these thoughts about her boss—especially since she couldn’t keep from quivering like a rabbit in his presence. Sometimes she just annoyed herself.
“Get to work,” she muttered and knuckled down.
Gabriel was fine for the first hour, but then he began barking orders even a six-armed woman with a split personality would have had trouble handling.
Finally, pushed to the edge, Charlotte snapped. “I’m going as fast as I can!” she yelled when he asked her for something a minute after he’d asked her to complete another task.
He scowled and held out a file. “This is a priority.”
Grabbing it from his hand, she said, “Fine,” and slapped it down on her desk.
It was over an hour later that he disappeared for ten minutes. When he returned, it was to put a small bakery box on her desk. “I think you need something to sweeten your mood today, Ms. Baird.”
What she needed was for the T-Rex who was her boss to stop snarling and growling, she thought as he returned to his office. Not opening the box until her curiosity had almost killed her, she found it held a slice of decadent chocolate cake with a white-chocolate ganache topped with curls of both white and milk chocolate. “I cannot be bribed with cake,” she muttered, eating a bite nonetheless.

Ten years ago, Cole Covington was just another rich kid who got everything he wanted—including young and trusting Mia Galdon. Then one night everything changed, and two hearts were shattered. Cole buried his guilt in the military, where love was just part of the past. Now Cole has come back home, emotionally damaged, guarded, and unprepared for what’s waiting for him…

At the urging of Cole’s sister, Mia has returned to the Covington family’s coastal home in Wilmington as a private nurse to help Cole recover. With her uncertain personal life at a crossroad, Mia doesn’t have the luxury of saying no to the job. And she soon finds out that the attraction is still alive. So are memories of betrayal. But Mia will discover more than the power of resilience. She’ll discover a secret Cole has held for years, one that will force them to confront the past and give new meaning to letting go, forgiveness, and a future worth fighting for.

Review:

Return to Me by Kelly Moran is the 1st book in her new Covington Cove series. I decided to read this book, as I usually enjoy these sweet romances in small towns, as well as being family oriented. I am so glad I did, as Return to Me was a fantastic read, and much more than a just sweet romance.

Our heroes in this story are Mia Galdon and Cole Covington. They were young lovers 10 years before, but they were on the different sides of the track. Mia was the daughter of the Covington maid, and Cole was the younger son of the wealthy and powerful Covingtons. Though they were in love, Cole shattered Mia’s heart without an explanation. Cole eventually joins the military, to get away from his guilt and his parents. In the present time, Cole is now emotionally, and physically damaged by the war, and has become a recluse in the family home he bought. He refuses to see anyone, with only the housekeeper to help him.

Lacey Covington is Cole’s sister, and in her desperation, she reaches out to Mia, even though it’s been 10 years. Mia is a nurse, who is currently looking for a job, and her financial situation is getting difficult, since she takes care of her sister, Ginny, who as downs syndrome. Lacey begs her to come to Covington Cove to become his caretaker and help Cole. Mia wants nothing to do with Cole, but because Lacey makes her an offer she can’t refuse, paying in full Ginny’s tuition at the home she has been staying in, Mia accepts.

Without giving out spoilers, what follows is a wonderful emotional heartwarming story of two people that must get past the damaging memories of the past, the betrayals, and move to the equally damaging present of war, tragedy, and emotional turmoil. But most important, Mia must find a way to get Cole out of his war terrors, and bring him back to his health. Cole has always loved Mia, will he tell her the truth of why he broke up with her? Can Mia trust her heart to Cole again? Will Mia be able to come face to face with Cole’s parents, who treated her like trash?

Kelly Moran has created some wonderful characters; Mia was a fabulous heroine, who was smart, savvy, funny, dedicated and strong; Cole made a fabulous hero, as he not only was a hunk, but his love for Mia tugged on our hearts; Lacey, was a wonderful sister to Cole, and turned out to be a super friend to Mia. I can’t wait to find what is in store for Lacey in the next Covington Cove book. Return to Me is a wonderful story that blends a sweet romance, family dynamics, healing, with heart wrenching emotions throughout, which will stay with you for a while. Great book by Kelly Moran that is not to be missed.

On the surface, the two highest ranked belts appear to cooperate—but in private, they butt heads constantly, despite the undeniable attraction between them. Soon their power exchanges start to make for a sweltering dynamic in the bedroom…

At first Knox is shocked to be living out his submissive desires, but Shiori sets out to prove that embracing his true sexual nature doesn’t make him a weak man. But even while their sexual relationship grants him a power and fulfillment he finds surprising, there’s no training regimen for the fight that comes with loving a strong woman…

Review:

As the blurb states, Shiori and Knox are left to run Black Art while Ronin and Amery are in Japan for an extended period of time. They have butted heads since the day Shiori walked into Black Arts and their constant barbs at each other only heighten their attraction to each other. They really have no idea about each other’s personal lives until they cross paths at an exclusive club where she plays out her Domme status and Knox does everything from work security to meting out “punishment” for select clientele who seek out his services. However, once they embark on a personal relationship and he realizes Shiori is a Dominant, he knows that he could never be a submissive…… Or could he? With both of their boundaries pushed, can they find what they’re both looking for? Or will they both be unraveled?

OH MY SWEET JESUS!!! I loved this book!! I have waited for this story since we first met Shiori and it did not disappoint. As a matter of fact, it was even better than I imagined it would be. Their constant jabs they throw at each other keep the story moving at a fast pace. He calls her She Cat and she calls him obKnoxious, among other things. I believe it caught them both off guard when they figured out how perfectly suited they were for each other. Of course, there are bumps along the way that have to be dealt with. And BIG changes…… Let’s just say that when Ronin gets back from Japan he sets things in motion that affect everyone. The supporting characters are awesome as well in this series. Hopefully, we’ll get to hear more about them in future books. Unraveled is ultimately a story about coming to terms with one’s past and perceived present in order to pave their future. And what a future it is. Well done, Lorelei James. Very very very well done!

Searching the streets of San Francisco for the missing pooch, Maggie finds herself entangled in a mystery that forces her to finally face her biggest fear-and to open her heart to new love.

Packed with deep emotion and charming surprises, Dog Crazy is a bighearted and entertaining story that skillfully captures the bonds of love, the pain of separation, and the power of our dogs to heal us

Review:

Dog Crazy by Meg Donohue is a heartwarming story of a young girl, who is a pet bereavement counselor. Our heroine is Maggie Brennan, and we meet her from the start, as she counsel’s her patient, who thanks to her is well enough to no longer need these sessions. We learn from that point, that Maggie herself has her own issues, suffering from agoraphobia, which she hides from others. Maggie lives in an apartment where her friend Lourdes lives with her dog. Maggie has not left her apartment, other than to walk outside to the gate to escort her patients as they leave. Maggie lost her dog, Toby, who she had for 13 years, and since then she has not been able to go outside, having anxiety attacks. But Maggie is a great counselor, being patient, understanding, comfortable and even joking with them.

She gets a phone call from Henry, who wants to hire her to meet with his sister, who will not face the possible loss of her dog, Billy, who she claims was stolen. Anya is forced to meet with Maggie, and doesn’t think she needs help. She resents having to meet Maggie, and according to her, someone stole Billy and she will continue to search for him every day.

Something about this distraught and difficult young girl makes Maggie want to help her. She forces herself to try to go out, borrows Lourdes dog, and together they walk a block, adding on another each day. Finally Maggie goes to Anya, meets her brothers, and starts to help searching for Billy. This enables Maggie to slowly become more confident, which also results in Anya coming out of her shell. It is Anya, who begins to see that Maggie herself has worse issues than she does. The two of them end up helping each other, even if some of Anya ways are embarrassing.

This is a heartwarming story of two people that will find a way to rise beyond their own phobias, with very rewarding results.   There is a slow to build romance that we begin to hope for midway between Henry and Maggie. There are also a couple of surprises that will bring tears. A very well written book that was a very different read for me. If you are a pet lover, and even if you are not, this is an emotional but wonderful story.

Uncharted Territory (Angela Panther) by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson – Reviews

Uncharted Territory (Angela Panther) by  Carolyn Ridder Aspenson – Reviews

The Angela Panther Series…what can I say. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m somewhat frugal. My husband would disagree, but since when is a husband happy about his wife’s spending habits? I read the first two books of this series and went to Amazon and bought them for a friend. How’s that for a recommendation?

Uncharted Territory
Angela Panther series – Book #3
by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson
Release Date: February 6, 2015

Uncharted TerritoryAmazon / Barnes & Noble / The Book Depository / BAM

Description:

Just when psychic medium Angela Panther thinks she’s got her gift figured out, the universe smacks her in the head with a curve ball.

When an unidentified fourteen-year-old boy takes a dive off an interstate overpass, Atlanta Detective Aaron Banner asks Angela to find out if it was suicide—or murder. But the young boy’s spirit has other plans for her: help another lost soul and forget about him.

Fortunately, Angela’s never been good at taking orders.

With the help of her dead-but-not-gone mother, Fran, and her newly single best friend, Mel, Angela sets out to discover the truth about both the jumper and the girl he wants to help.

And boy, is she out of her league.

Armed with little more than their double lattes and a tiny pink bottle of wannabe pepper spray, Angela and Mel must venture into the dark underbelly of Atlanta to solve two mysteries. Will they be able to help the dead finally rest in peace?

Review:

Uncharted Territory is the third book in this marvelous series and is every bit as witty and wonderful as the first two. I was thoroughly entertained by the dialogue and characters. Carolyn Ridder Aspenson is a gifted author and I hope this series continues for a very long time. I’m now a fan!

Angela Panther is a lacrosse mom (aka soccer mom) with two children and a sexy, simply loveable and wonderful husband (yes, I’m so envious! LOL). She has a teenage daughter Emily who has given her fits with her angst and issues (I’m so not envious, been there done that.). She also has a son around age 10 who’s wonderful, loving and respectful, plays too many video games (pretty realistic, huh?). Oh yeah, Angela can see and hear dead people!

Angela could do this for awhile as a child, but the ‘gift’ faded for most of her life and she forgot about it. Then her mother passed and suddenly there it was again. Hopefully, you’ll also read the short synopsis of the first two books, probably before or after this. Suffice it for now to say she’s struggling with this ‘gift’ changing her normal life to something…well…abnormal. Yeah, it seriously would!

In this book, Angela works with Detective Aaron Banner to help solve crimes and deaths. In the previous book, Unbreakable Bonds he witnessed her gift firsthand and asked her to help him, unofficially and unpaid.

Her best friend Mel, recently divorced, is one of the main secondary characters in the books and the relationship is absolutely entertaining and serious fun! Mel is witty, wild, hurting and horny. The two together with her dead mother, vastly surpass the wit and humor of other well-known detective-mystery type series characters (aka – Stephanie Plum), at least in my humble opinion.

The team tackles the cases of a young ‘thug’ who died from the fall off a bridge. Did he jump, was it murder? He doesn’t remember… Another case is the girl in the white gown, who disappears before getting to give her much information, is she actually dead? This and much more make this book a completely entertaining and wonderful read.

Grab a great drink, snacks! Jump onboard the Angela Panther train…ride along and watch her develop this marvelous talent. Don’t forget the tissues, there tears both happy and sad, but totally awesome coming!

Unfinished Business
Angela Panther series – Book 1

Review:
The setting is in Atlanta, GA. Angela Panther is a housewife and mother of two Emily 15 and Josh 10, with a sexy and loving husband, Jake and their Pit Bull/Greyhound mix Gracie. Her She’s just lost her mother to cancer and is appropriately sad and grieving, when mother pops back into her life as a spirit. She thinks she’s having a breakdown, but her mother assures her this is not the case. She’s come to make sure the funeral and burial is done the way she wants.

This first book builds a new world for Angela and her family. Her mother’s spirit helps, and she begins the process of learning to accept and use her gift. The story is kept very real with teenage angst and drama (drug parties and the death of a friend), as well as a loving relationship with her husband. There are many things to learn for both Angela and her mom. She consults a medium to help her learn. She manages to help a few people get closure along the way, with the support and love from her understanding husband. Then has to prepare for the eventual death of her father who has COPD. The characters and dialogue in these stories is absolutely the best!

Unbreakable Bonds

Unbreakable Bonds
Angela Panther series – Book #2
by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson
Release Date: March 28, 2014
Amazon / B & N / The Book Depository / BAM

Review:
This book deals with Angela temporarily losing her gift, then getting part of it back, then with cooperation with “the universe” all of it back and more. Now she can only hear the dead. All due to her not wanting to do as “the universe” wants and use her gift without worrying about her own life. It’s as hilarious as the first, the dialogue and characters are so real and wonderful. Some of the spirits are sweet and need help, all are very grateful and some are just plain hilarious.

Emily (Angela’s daughter) gets her first taste of sex, with the wrong type of guy of course. By the end finds a much better boyfriend. Mel, (Angela’s BFF) deals with a cheating husband, and has to come to terms with a divorce and raising her children. She learns much, and plans on rejoining the world and thinks about dating. Fran (Angela’s mother’s spirit) helps sleuth out the facts and even gets a little revenge on the “Cheat”. Lots of fun adventure, heart-warming aid to a tiny little spirit, and so much more. Ending with a sort of partnership with Detective Aaron Banner, unpaid help to solve crimes and give closure to the dead and their relatives
