ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 21, 2015

Tattoo artist Cory Easton has worked long enough at Raw Ink to know, just by looking at a dude, what his body art reveals, what makes him tick, what even makes him scared. Until he meets the quiet and remote Jude York—so unreadable, so unreachable, and so unlike anyone else, he can’t help but arouse Cory’s curiosity.

As captivating and complex as his ink, Jude is a mystery—and Cory’s falling fast and hard under his spell. Against his better judgment to steer clear.

The rumors of Jude’s past overshadow him—whispers of prison and an unmentionable secret that’s kept him in the protective shadows of a local motorcycle club. As Cory probes deeper, he wonders how much he really wants to know. Especially since Jude has awakened something inside him that has been buried too long—and has him feeling completely alive for the first time in forever…

••••••••••••••

NOTE: THERE YOU STAND is an M/M romance storyline with M/M sexual situations.

REVIEW: THERE YOU STAND is the fifth installment and first M/M storyline in Christina Lee’s adult, contemporary Between Breaths romance series. This is tattoo artist Cory Easton and skate boarder Jude York’s storyline. THERE YOU STAND can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Some of the previous storyline characters from Raw Ink play a secondary and supporting role throughout.

Told from first person point of view (Cory Easton) THERE YOU STAND follows the building relationship and friendship between Cory and Jude. Cory is a tattoo artist at Raw Ink and his latest customer is the quiet, shy and mysterious skateboarder Jude York-a young man with so many secrets and deep seated demons that Cory has a difficult time getting past the physical and emotional scars. Jude is constantly surrounded by unsavory characters, and in this, the small town rumors and gossip continue to fly. It is only when Cory discovers the truth is Jude able to open up-a little bit at a time. Jude’s story is sad and emotional; Cory’s backstory is heartbreaking.

The relationship between Jude and Cory is slow to build as Cory and Jude dance around one another for a good portion of the storyline-there is plenty of sexual tension between our leading heroes that does not go unnoticed by friends and acquaintances. The $ex scenes are intimate and romantic; there are no overly graphic or erotic scenarios but it is an M/M storyline with M/M sexual situations. As Jude reveals the secrets about his past, Cory begins to fall in love with the broken and intense skateboarder.

The secondary and supporting characters include Cory’s friends Emmy and Tristan, fellow artists at Raw Ink- Dex, Nate and Jessie (Promise Me This #4) as well as the regulars at Zack’s Bar and Hog’s Den including Vaughn and Smoke, and Malachi from the Disciples of the Road MC. And we can’t forget Chopper, Ace and Patch that are the catalysts that bring together Cory and Jude.

THERE YOU STAND is an engaging and entertaining love story with moments of emotional heartbreak and pain; mystery and suspense; retribution and revenge when Jude’s past resurfaces with a vengeance. This particular part of the storyline is quick to resolve and the exact details are never revealed about what went done or how it happened. Christina Lee writes a wonderful storyline with a happily ever after.

excerpt

Chopper, get your ass back here!”
While he was distracted, I silently moved toward him, hoping to grab hold of that leash. But just as I approached, he took off again, following that same squirrel who’d taken a leap to the next large maple.
I was out of breath and now beyond frustrated. I shoved my hand in my hoodie, my fingers closing on a sturdy dog cookie.
When I looked up again, Chopper was headed straight for the skate park. Shit.
“Chopper, goddamn it,” I called in some last-ditch effort. “You don’t listen for shit.”
Unexpectedly, Jude York neared the cement barrier at the entrance to the bowl. His board clenched in his fist, he seemed to be assessing the situation as the large dog charged nearer.
He left his skateboard on the concrete walkway and stepped into the lawn. He squatted down in the grass, made eye contact with Chopper, and the dog changed course to sail directly toward him. What the hell was that about?
Some type of deep whistle emitted from Jude’s lips and instead of slamming into his chest, Chopper came to a sudden halt beside him. Like Jude was a damn dog whisperer or something. His strong fingers grabbed hold of his collar and he reached down to mutter something in the dog’s ear. Chopper sat down in the grass. Actually fucking sat down—I had never been able to get him to do that.
I became motionless as I watched them, even though Ace was eager to inch closer. At least one animal heeded my command. I wondered what it was about Jude that compelled Chopper to run toward him. I mean, I got the appeal, so maybe it was just pure animal instinct.
The muscles in Jude’s forearm flexed as he stroked Chopper’s head and the dog’s tongue hung out in a happy pant. The little fucker.
As I walked closer to Chopper, Jude’s eyes lifted to mine. And for the first time I saw an array of other emotions alight in them. The most blatant being amusement, as if his irises contained a flicker of light. His lips tilted at the corners in an almost imperceptible smile and he looked so dazzling right then. As he held my gaze for the first time ever, something tightened like a fist inside my chest.
Shit, he was stunning. In that exotic kind of way. His hair was a mass of short blond dreadlocks, his skin inked mainly in black, and his eyes were the most gorgeous light green I’d ever seen—almost like cellophane. And now those same eyes locked on mine and held steady.

HOT FOR TEACHER

As the new head of the English department, Dani doesn’t have much time for anything but lesson planning and literature. Romance—or even sex? Forget about it. But then the principal introduces her to last-minute hire Nate Ryan. Finding time to mentor a new teacher won’t be easy, especially when his incredible body and equally disarming charisma are enough to make her heart skip a beat . . .

Nate may be fresh out of school, but he’s confident in his teaching skills—and in his feelings for Dani. But while she’s everything he’s ever wanted, he knows his place on her staff—and his age—may be problematic for his sexy boss. How can he convince her to ignore the gossip mill currently in full swing in the teacher’s lounge and surrender to what’s meant to be?

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: FRINGE BENEFITS is the fourth installment in Sandy James’s contemporary, adult The Ladies Who Lunch romance series focusing on a tight knit group of four friends (and teachers) who meet several times per week for lunch. This is thirty two year old high school English teacher and department head Danielle Bradshaw, and twenty four year old rookie English teacher Nate Ryan’s storyline. FRINGE BENEFITS can be read as a stand alone; all of the previous storyline couples play a significant role throughout the novel and their stories continue to build upon one another.

Told from alternating third person perspectives, FRINGE BENEFITS follows the quick building relationship between Nate and Dani. There is an immediate attraction between Nate and Dani, one that does not go unnoticed by Dani’s fellow Lunch Ladies, as well as the men that they love. Dani has been assigned as Nate’s mentor in the English department, a position that places Dani as Nate’s boss. What ensues is Nate’s pursuit of Dani, and Dani’s attempts to push him away, but there is one problem-Nate is Dani’s new tenant-the man is renting the basement apartment in Dani’s new house. The $ex scenes are intimate and compelling, without the erotic.

All of the previous storyline couples are present. FRINGE BENEFITS fast forwards the series by a couple of years; the families are growing; businesses are thriving; friendship bonds are tighter. We are introduced to Nate’s family-his mother Jackie and step father Mark, as well as his brother Patrick. Nate’s ex girlfriend Kat is the requisite evil and makes another attempt to convince Nate they belong together.

FRINGE BENEFITS is a delightful storyline with engaging and realistic characters. Sandy James blends passion and romance for an encouraging and enjoyable read; a welcome respite for a busy day.

The Mistake by Lily Maxton – a Review

The Mistake by Lily Maxton – a Review

The MistakeAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
Childhood love never disappears…

Infamous courtesan Julia Forsythe is the former mistress of a ruthless marquess. She’s also expecting his child. But while she longs to flee from his cold clutches, the welfare of her unborn babe prevents it. Now she must find a way to remain a “mistress” in name, if not in deed. And her plans are only complicated by a growing affection for the estate’s head gardener…

Fifteen years ago, Adam Radcliff once shared a close friendship with Julia. Now they stand worlds apart in both lives and statuses, sharing only the memory of that old friendship. But even as Julia slips out of the marquess’s lascivious clutches, she finds herself seeking the pleasure of Adam’s company. Now Adam is falling more deeply for Julia, even knowing that wanting another man’s mistress will only bring ruin upon them both.

Review:

The Mistake by Lily Maxton is a historical romance set in London in the 1800’s and is part of the Sisters of Scandal series. A wonderfully romantic era it was also an era that had little security for women. Not many avenues to advance themselves financially without marrying a rich or titled man. This is well written and I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s style.

The prolog begins in London, 1802. Adam Radcliff, a young man of 16, a poor Irish/English child without much prospect goes looking for his runaway friend and first love, Julie Forsythe. Her father has died after years of drinking since the death of her mother, and she’s overwhelmed with fear of being poor all her life. He finds her but she’s already met a Lord Stanley and he’s suddenly aware that she can have more of the security she needs with this man than with him, so he lets her go by stepping into the shadows and leaving.

Fifteen years later the story picks up with Julia now the mistress of Henry Eldridge, the Marquess of Riverton. While she detests the man, she is also pregnant with his child and has a contract with him that he will provide for the child a specified amount and even an education if she will fulfill her part of the contract and be available sexually to him for as long as he wants her. She makes him think she’s ill and he sends her to his country estate of Blakewood Hall by herself for a month. She finds Adam again, he’s the head gardener at the estate.

That’s the setup, I think everyone will enjoy this intriguing tale of love and life, things we think we need and things we truly need. It’s well written with the talented author using time to relate the tale of the two young people in love, and the background of their stories. It’s an intricate but fast paced story of rediscovering self and others, a good look into the society of the time. Will true love win, or will security and greed overcome yet again?

Grab a good beverage, a few tissues and snuggle up for a lovely quick read. You’ll love it! I did!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 21, 2015

A promise sworn on the edge of a sword…

After a failed assassination attempt on a corrupt general, Bao Yang is a wanted man. Taking refuge with an ally, Yang accidentally compromises the man’s daughter when they’re discovered alone. To save her honor, he must marry the beautiful Jin-mei immediately!

In Yang’s arms, Jin-mei feels alive for the first time. She’s determined not to lose him, even if it means joining his perilous mission… But when she realizes just how destructive Yang’s path could be, can she convince him that their life together could be so much sweeter than revenge?

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: A DANCE WITH DANGER is the second installment in Jeannie Lin’s Lovers and Rebels historical, romance/adventure series set in the Tang Dynasty of China. This is outlaw/ merchant Bao Yang, and the magistrate’s daughter Jin-mei’s storyline. A DANCE WITH DANGER can be read as a stand alone. Some of the previous storyline characters play secondary and supporting roles throughout the story.

Told from third person perspective, the storyline follows the ill-fated wedding and marriage of Jin-mei and Bao Yang. Bao is an outlaw, with a price on his head, and he has been forced into a marriage with the magistrate’s only daughter. What ensues is an attempt on Bao’s life, leaving the newly married Jin-mei without a husband and too many questions. As Jin-mei begins to unravel the mystery surrounding the presumed death of her husband, she will begin to suspect that her father has something to do with the attack. Jin-mei will go in search of her husband, only to discover that there is more to the story than she could ever have known. Bao Yang and Jin-mei will begin a cross country trek as Yang plots revenge for the death of someone close.

The relationship between Bao Yang and Jin-mei is one of immediate attraction but Yang knows his reputation as an outlaw places Jin-mei in a precarious position. The building romance finds Jin-mei in need of comfort and reassurance, thus allowing for the love and dance of sexual attraction to begin. The sex scenes are romantic and intimate without graphic description or language. We are introduced to Bao Yang’s brother Tien and his wife Shou-yun, and reunited with Hao Han, Lin Feng, and Lin’s brother Liu Yuan from Sword Dancer-book one. There is a potential storyline building for Liu Yuan.

Jeannie Lin’s exotic and breathtaking world building takes the reader through the jungles, waterways and outlying areas of China where we meet charismatic characters and controversial players. Bao Yang and Jin-mei’s journey follows a path of self-discovery, personal revelations, and blossoming love. The plot twists and revelations add an interesting perspective when the truth is finally revealed.

REVIEW: WAIT FOR ME is the first installment in Samantha Chase’s adult, contemporary The Montgomery Brothers romance series focusing on the Montgomery family. This is former NFL star Lucas Montgomery and executive assistant Emma Taylor’s storyline.

Emma is William Montgomery’s assistant and William sees something between his son Lucas and his long time PA. What ensues is a ruse perpetrated by Lucas’s father to push together his son and Emma Taylor that eventually ends in a happily ever after but getting there is a comedy of errors and a weekend of temper tantrums, fights and immature behavior.

Lucas is a recluse. A career ending football injury finds Lucas hiding away in a cabin in the woods where he only ventures into the real world for the once monthly meetings with his father and brothers. Lucas has pinned his entire existence on his football career and with the loss, Lucas sees himself as a failure.

Emma is a bit of an enigma. We learn very little about her background or family information. She is a woman who loves to bake and when things begin to fall apart, Emma looks for work at a small town bakery.

The relationship between our couple is acrimonious at best. I felt no spark, no sexual tension and definitely no love between Lucas and Emma, and in this the storyline fell completely flat. The up and down emotional roller coaster was almost bi-polar in its’ reveal; the attitudes and temper tantrums were that of young children who didn’t get their way. They continued to fight and argue until the final pages of the story. The $ex scenes are all implied; fade to black wherein our couple wake up the next morning or days later where the reader is to presume that something happened between the leading couple.

The secondary and supporting characters include the interfering parental units of William and Monica Montgomery who seem to have a knack for arguing and displaying emotional outbursts on a regular basis; and Lucas’s brothers, Jason and Mac who are but a blip on the radar at this point in the series. The world building is limited as the storyline focuses on the building relationship between Lucas and Emma. I am not quite sure what it is the Montgomery family do to earn their millions but it would have been nice to see some information and detail revealed.

WAIT FOR ME was a disappointing read. The constant fighting, lying and manipulation was a distraction to the overall enjoyment of the storyline. I felt no connection to any of the characters.

by Samantha Chase
Genre: adult, contemporary, romance
Re-release: Marcy 17, 2015

REVIEW: TRUST IN ME is the second installment in Samantha Chase’s adult, contemporary The Montgomery Brothers romance series focusing on the Montgomery family. This is Jason Montgomery and Maggie Barrett’s storyline. TRUST IN ME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. TRUST IN ME can be found together with book one WAIT FOR ME

Told from third person perspective, TRUST IN ME finds William Montgomery, yet again, playing matchmaker for his two remaining unmarried sons. The storyline follows the building relationship between Jason and Maggie. Ever since his brother’s marriage to personal assistant Emma Taylor (Wait For Me #1), Jason has believed himself the target of every single woman at Montgomery Enterprises. With a three week business trip on the horizon, Jason needs a personal assistant who isn’t about to take things to a personal level-enter Maggie Barrett-a receptionist at his father’s company and a married woman-or maybe not! Maggie’s has a secret-one that finds our couple in a precarious position time and again. William offers up Maggie Barrett as Jason’s new PA, with the hopes of another successful Montgomery mating.

There is very little background information revealed about Jason Montgomery. We know he his loyal, well trusted, works for his father William Montgomery and that a bevy of beautiful and not so beautiful woman at work are trying to get Jason’s attention. Maggie is a woman whose past is mired in betrayal, and her position within Montgomery Enterprises finds Maggie hiding in plain sight.

The relationship between our leading couple is one of immediate attraction but Jason believes Maggie is married and our hero is having a difficult time keeping business and pleasure separate. While away, an opportunity presents itself for a night out on the town, wherein Maggie forgets about her ‘marriage’ and crosses the line of no return. Once again, I did not feel a connection to the couple; the sexual tension between Jason and Maggie was missing and virtually non existent. The limited $ex scenes are all implied and fade to black.

The secondary and supporting cast include Jason’s brothers Mac and Lucas, as well as William Montgomery-the family patriarch. The world building skims the business ventures of Montgomery Enterprise-I am still unsure as to the exact nature of the billion dollar business but they do appear to be very big and powerful.

by Samantha Chase
Genre: adult, contemporary, romance
Re-release: April 21, 2015

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO /

REVIEW:  STAY WITH ME is the third installment in Samantha Chase’s adult, contemporary The Montgomery Brothers romance series focusing on the Montgomery family of Charlotte, North Carolina. This is eldest brother Mac Montgomery, and childhood friend Gina Micelli’s storyline. STAY WITH ME can be read as a stand alone but for cohesion and series backstory I would suggest reading in order.

Told from third person perspective STAY WITH ME is a story about friendship, loss and letting go. Family patriarch William Montgomery likes to play matchmaker and in this, he and his best friend Art Micelli hope to see love for their two remaining children.

Gina Micelli has returned to North Carolina to take care of her dying father Art. At fifteen years old, Gina’s parents divorced and Gina was whisked across country and had rarely seen or spoken to her father since. With her return comes guilt and the knowledge that her mother’s controlling ways kept Gina distanced from her father-on purpose. As Art Micelli nears the end of his life, Gina finds herself heartbroken and in pain for a father who has never stopped loving his only daughter.

Mac Montgomery doesn’t do relationships. With his two brothers married and starting families, Mac knows that his well meaning but meddling father has one final goal to see Mac happily married. Thinking Gina’s return was more of a matchmaking set up than a father/daughter reunion, Mac denies his attraction to Gina with the hopes of pushing away the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Mac and Gina is a friends to lovers storyline between two people who have not seen one another for years. As Gina struggles with her father’s impending death, Mac struggles with his attraction and desire. As in the previous storylines, the $ex scenes are implied and fade to black. My only wish is that more of the family history between the Micelli’s and Montgomery’s was revealed. It would have been nice to see the earlier years and the developing friendships.

All of the previous storyline characters play a supporting and secondary role. Lucas and Jason’s wives take Gina under their wings with the knowledge that Mac will come to his senses-one of these days.

STAY WITH ME is an emotional storyline especially the scene where Gina says goodbye to her father, and William Montgomery goodbye to a friend. Keep handy a box of tissues-you are probably going to need it.

MORE OF ME
The Montgomery Brothers 3.5
by Samantha Chase
Genre: adult, contemporary, romance
Re-release: April 21, 2015

REVIEW:  MORE OF ME is the fourth installment and novella in Samantha Chase’s adult, contemporary The Montgomery Brothers romance series. MORE OF ME introduces the Montgomery extended family of cousins and can be found as a bonus story in STAY WITH ME. This is Ryder Montgomery, and wedding planner Casey Peterson’s story. MORE OF ME can be read as a stand alone story without any difficulty.

Told from third person perspective MORE OF ME finds William Montgomery, once again, playing matchmaker but this time it is with his nephew Ryder Montgomery. As Mac and Gina (Stay With Me #3) prepare for their upcoming nuptials, Gina is suddenly called back home on a family emergency. Enter William Montgomery who suggests Ryder check out the wedding venues with Casey Peterson. The twist-Casey is Ryder’s ex girlfriend and they haven’t spoken to one another in a dozen years.

MORE OF ME is a second chance storyline for two people who have never stopped loving one another. Twelve years earlier Ryder left North Carolina for the West Coast where he eventually began work with the Montgomery West Coast offices leaving a heartbroken Casey to pick up the pieces of a destroyed relationship. Fast forward twelve years, where Casey finds herself working with Ryder Montgomery on his cousin’s upcoming wedding-and all of the old feelings and emotions come rushing to the surface.

There is very little angst or anxiety with the reconciliation. Casey and Ryder are now adults who know what it is to love and loss. Ryder has never stopped loving Casey and in this, he continues to apologize for his behavior, years before. The $ex scenes are all implied and fade to black. There is definitely a happily ever after for this couple.

MORE OF ME is a fun and quick read; a romantic story of reconciliation and second chances from the pen of Samantha Chase

ABOUT THE BOOK:

She dares to dream…

Summer Montgomery wants to be taken seriously almost as much as she wants her brother’s best friend, Ethan. But with a long resume of seemingly random career choices and a protective brother on watch, those things are nothing more than pipe dreams…

Does he dare to try?

Ethan Reed would like nothing more than to live by his own rules. Not wanting to disappoint his best friend Zach, or any of the Montgomerys, Ethan’s had to push his long-denied feelings for Summer aside. But it only takes one night away from watchful eyes to make impossible dreams come true..

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: MEANT FOR YOU is the fifth full length installment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult The Montgomery Brothers romance series focusing on the Montgomery family. This is Summer Montgomery, and Montgomery West Coast vice president Ethan Reed’s storyline. MEANT FOR YOU can be read as a stand alone story; many of the previous storyline characters play secondary and supporting roles therefore for cohesion and back story I recommend reading the series in order.

Told from third person point of view, MEANT FOR YOU finds William Montgomery now matchmaking for his extended family of nieces and nephews and in this there are two developing romances on the horizon. The main focus is Summer Montgomery and Ethan Reed. As Ethan and his best friend (and Summer’s brother) Zach Montgomery prepare for a mountain climbing expedition in Denali, Summer finds herself in the unenviable position of trying to convince both men that the climb is much too dangerous. Zach has never completely recovered from a recent broken leg, but he is determined to push himself against everyone’s wishes. When Ethan backs out of the excursion, Zach goes it alone with his team. Disaster will strike bringing the entire Montgomery family together, and with it the realization that the only female sibling is currently involved with the company vice president and Zach’s best friend.

Summer is an enthusiast character whose choices in life have been frowned upon by her immediate family. She is accorded no respect from her siblings and her father, Robert Montgomery, continues to dismiss Summer as though she was nothing more than an annoyance. Summer knows that she will never be offered a place in the family business, but that doesn’t mean she won’t stop trying to be successful at what it is she wants to do.

The relationship between Ethan and Summer is one of friends to lovers; Summer has been in love with her older brother’s best friend since she was a teen but Ethan has made no advances fearing his friendship and position within the company. Circumstances will bring Ethan and Summer together cementing their relationship but in doing so will build a wall between Ethan and the Montgomery family. The Montgomery men are over protective, alpha males who deem it their right to control every aspect of Summer’s life. The $ex scenes are implied and fade to black. There is no graphic language or imagery.

There is a secondary storyline building between Zach Montgomery and Gabrielle Martine. Gabrielle is Zach’s long suffering assistant and Zach treats Gabrielle more like a slave and less than human. The reader watches as Zach continues to break Gabrielle’s heart one order and command at a time. It is time Gabrielle started looking for another job.

MEANT FOR YOU is my favorite Montgomery Brother’s storyline thus far. Samantha Chase’s writing style has matured as well as her character development; there is none of the over-the-top anger and hostility found in the earlier storylines but there are still some emotional outbursts from well meaning Montgomery siblings. MEANT FOR YOU was an enjoyable read with colorful and engaging characters.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Natalie Bourne thinks she has the perfect night planned for her twenty-first birthday. But when her car breaks down and her boyfriend bails on her, she’s left stranded in an auto shop dealing with a way too cocky, way too hot mechanic, who seems to be intent on pushing every button she has.

Monroe Hawkins knows he shouldn’t be messing with a girl from the uppity private college. Especially when he can tell she sees him as the help. But he’s having trouble resisting the redhead with the smart mouth and the killer legs. So when Natalie’s night goes from bad to worse, there’s no way he’s letting her spend her birthday alone. He makes her a deal—he’ll take her home but not until the sun comes up.

Ten hours, one motorcycle, and the city of Austin at their fingertips…things are about to take a major detour. And soon, there may be no U-turn in sight.

REVIEW: I have to admit that upon reading the title I did not know what to think but this book surprised me and I found myself heavily enjoying this read. This book was a play on fantasy but with real substance. It was not simply girl meets guy, instant chemistry, some flirting here and there, the couple takes some time apart and the book ends with the guy declaring his love. Yes I admit that I was a little worried this book was going to be along the lines of that but it wasn’t. This book had incredible character development which was an element I greatly appreciated. Roni Loren took real care to really flesh out the main characters, Natalie and Monroe for us. Nope, no flat one dimensional characters here. While Natalie appears to be your typical good-girl (polite, responsible, docile and does what’s expected of her), she sheds that good girl skin to be more true to herself and stop taking crap from others starting with standing up to her now ex-boyfriend Caleb. And while Monroe looked a little rough around the edges at face value, Monroe was a true attentive gentleman. The man reeked of sincerity that I fell in love with him instantly.

I love how the book demonstrates how just because people are often neatly boxed up in labels doesn’t mean it’s the label that make people who they really are. Just because Caleb is a promising intern with his air of professionalism and being clean cut doesn’t mean he’s a good guy. He’s in fact a selfish, egotistical jerk and Monroe had every right of calling him a douchebag.

I really enjoyed the humor of the book as well. Monroe and Natalie cracked me up with their name calling of “son of anarchy” and “princess.” The humor didn’t cease to stop there either. Their constant banter was downright amusing that I had a feeling Monroe brought out the best in Natalie that she was able to let loose and really have fun. Monroe was constantly winning brownie points with me.

My favorite part in the book the cupcake part. It was so sweet of Monroe to get cupcakes for Natalie so that she would still somehow get a cake for her birthday though the cupcakes that Monroe got for Natalie were so unusual that I had to stop and imagine the cupcakes in my head. Blue cupcake and a cupcake with a glaze that resemble blood gave me such an amusing image in my head.

So what’s not to like about this book? You get a swoon-worthy biker stud, a female character who grows a pair, a sexy love scene and the ultimate culinary experience. So if you desire a fast-paced short story that will knock your socks off without sacrificing the story and characters, I would highly recommend this read right here!

Chapter One
Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday, dear . . .
I groan and lean back against the guardrail, shielding my eyes from the piercing sunlight. How exactly should I finish that?
Girl who currently smells like sweat and roadkill?
Girl about to go broke paying for this mess?
Girl whose boyfriend will not answer his goddamned phone?
My fingers move over the screen as I text Caleb again. Where r u???
I stare at my phone, willing a response out of it, but the screen goes black before there’s any answering ding. Caleb had warned me that he was going to be cutting it close for our date tonight. And I know his internship at the local campaign office sometimes runs late when they’re prepping for a rally, but he should be out by now.
My fingers move over the screen again. R U secretly Superman in ur off hours? Come on, u can tell me. If ur saving the world, I’ll understand.
Of course, there’s still no response. And now my neck is prickling with not just sweat but anxiety. What if something happened to him? What if he was in an accident? What if—?
I stop myself before the thoughts spiral, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath. Cool it, Nat. But that little exercise only gets me a lungful of the dead skunk that’s roasting in the heat a few yards away from me on the side of the highway. Blech. I press my fingers over my mouth, fighting a wave of nausea.
I check the clock on my phone for what seems like the hundredth time. The roadside-assistance lady said they would contact a local garage and get me a tow right away. But it’s been over an hour, and the only cars that have passed by have either ignored me or sent catcalls flying my way. Because, of course, my piece-of-crap car had to break down when I’m all dressed up in a low-cut dress and heels for my birthday dinner. Yay for timing.
One guy had at least offered to help and had seemed nice enough, but I’ve seen how those horror movies end. Girl on the side of the road accepts help from a seemingly harmless stranger, only to have her organs carved out later that night. No, thanks.
A grinding of tires on gravel draws my attention upward. A black tow truck rolls past me on the road and pulls to the side, sending a cloud of dust in its wake. I keep my phone clutched in my hand, quickly check the can of Mace in my purse, and then push off the guardrail. The side of the truck says Billy’s Custom Cycles and Auto Repair. There’s a tattoo-style logo of a motorcycle on fire, and I know that it’s definitely not the name of the repair shop the roadside assistance service gave me. It had been some big chain—AutoPlus or something like that. A little shimmer of nerves goes through me and I stop where I am, my heels sinking into the gravel.
The front door of the tow truck opens and a tattooed arm appears before anything else. For some reason, my eyes lock onto pieces of the man instead of the whole—like I can’t handle the entire view quite yet, only snapshots. That muscular arm as the driver slides out of the truck. The worn black motorcycle boots that hit the ground. I force myself to look up, tracking along the faded jeans and fitted black T-shirt, until I collide with a dark blue gaze.
“Looks like you need a ride.”
The deep voice startles me for a second and snaps me back into the moment like a slingshot. Ping! Pay attention, Nat. Now is not the time to let my guard down. “No, thank you, I don’t. I already have another shop on the way.”
His gaze tracks over my dusty dress, slow and lazy like, before he lifts a dark brow. “How long have you been waiting? It’s pretty hot out here.”
The once-over makes me more than a little self-conscious. He can’t be all that much older than me, early twenties for sure, but something about him is intimidating as hell. “I don’t know. Not long. I’m sure they’ll be here any second.”
He crosses his arms over his chest and eyes my car, which has chosen this moment to start smoking from under the hood—as if it senses help in its midst and is crying out for it. “What shop is coming?”
I brush at the skirt of my dress, trying to give my nervous hands something to do. I don’t want to look worried or scared or show him that I’m melting in this brutal Texas heat. “AutoPlus, AutoMart . . .”
He scowls. “Autoland.”
“That’s it.”
“You might as well set up a tent then. They take forever to get to calls, and they’ll charge you twice as much as we would. Plus, they close at six. They’re just going to tow you in and then lock up for the night.”
“Says the guy who wants to make a buck on a girl stranded on the side of the road.”
The corner of his mouth lifts. “Hey, princess, I’m just trying to be a nice guy and get you to your”—he looks me up and down again—“sorority party on time. I get paid the same either way.”
Princess? Sorority party? My eyes narrow and I give him my own head-to-toe look, taking in the messy dark hair, the tattoos, the heavy boots, the finely shaped . . . I snatch the thought back before I can go there. “Look, Son of Anarchy, I appreciate the nice guy offer, but how do I even know you’re legit?”
He snorts. “You think I drive a tow truck around for fun? Call the number on the side of the truck if you want. But otherwise, I’ve got better stuff to do than stand here in the heat, smelling roadkill. Two minutes, princess. I’ll be in the truck. You want a tow and a ride? You get in. If not, good luck with Autoland.”
He turns to go, and I feel a little dart of panic at being left alone again—even if he’s not exactly the company I want. This isn’t the best part of Austin, and the sun is on its way down. “Wait, what’s your name? You know, so I can verify.”
He doesn’t turn around but calls back. “Monroe.”
I dial the number to the shop and, of course, they verify that Monroe works for them and is driving the truck today. The guy on the phone sounds amused by my questions. And his reaction makes me realize that I’m being paranoid, that my nerves are officially frayed, and it’s making me act like a bitch. I thank the guy on the phone, hang up, and take a steadying breath. This is going to be okay. Not everyone is out to take advantage. Some people actually do things to be helpful without ulterior motives.
My mother would laugh her ass off at that logic. Everybody’s got an agenda, Nattie.
I straighten the neckline of my dress, hike my purse up my shoulder, and walk over to the tow truck with as much dignity as I can muster for a sweaty girl in a dusty dress. Monroe hasn’t climbed back into the cab, but is instead leaning against the front bumper and watching the cars zoom by on the overpass up ahead. He doesn’t look my way. “Verified that I’m not a serial killer?”
“Verified that you work for Billy’s. The serial-killer part is yet to be determined.”
He smiles out at the horizon. “Want to check the backseat for weapons or body parts?”
“I have a feeling you’d be too sneaky to leave such obvious evidence lying around. And if you aren’t that clever, I’m going to be seriously disappointed in myself if I fall victim to a dumb serial killer.”
He chuckles and it changes his whole face, warming it. When he turns his head, his blue eyes meet mine and my stomach tightens a little. I do my best not to let my reaction show on my face. Last thing I need is him thinking that I’m interested in him. Because, of course, I’m not. I’m totally not. If there’s an opposite of my type, it’s this guy. And plus, I have Caleb. Cute, smart, on-his-way-to-big-things Caleb.
Caleb, who won’t answer his goddamned phone.
Monroe pushes himself off the bumper. “I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or an insult, princess, but I’ll take it you’re going to ride with me.”
“Yes. But only because I can’t handle the dead-skunk smell for another minute.”
“I’m preferable to skunk guts? The flattery just rolls off you, doesn’t it?”
The jab lands squarely. I press my fingers to the space between my eyes and rub. “Sorry. I’m really not trying to be a bitch.”
“It just comes natural, then?”
My eyes snap open and I’m ready to hurl an insult back, but I find him wearing a playful grin and clamp my lips shut.
He angles a thumb toward the truck. “Get in . . .”
“Natalie,” I supply.
“Natalie. And kick the A/C on. Getting your car hooked up is gonna take a few minutes. You may want to call someone for a ride, too, because there’s no guarantee we can get this fixed tonight. I’m assuming you have plans.”
I glance down at my outfit, suddenly self-conscious about the sexy getup. It’s not my typical style, but tonight was supposed to be special, and I had wanted to knock Caleb on his butt. He’s been so wrapped up in work and school lately that I’ve felt a little like furniture. So I borrowed my roommate’s dress with its plunging neckline and treated myself to the new risqué lingerie I’m wearing beneath. I’m not exactly Ms. Vixen normally, so Caleb would’ve never seen it coming. Now it’s all a waste.
“I have a date with my boyfriend,” I say to Monroe.
“Right. So, he can pick you up?”
“He’s not answering his phone. But I’m sure I’ll get him soon.”
Monroe makes some noncommittal noise and nods. “I’m going to get to work. You go and cool off. There’s bottled water in the ice chest in the backseat.”
“Thanks.”
Before getting in the truck, I find myself watching Monroe walk back toward my car. He’s easily over six feet tall but doesn’t move in that awkward, hunched way that most of the taller guys on campus move. There’s an easy confidence to him, like he’s fully grown into his body and taken ownership—a man’s walk. My eyes follow him as he pops the hood of my car and leans over. The hem of his shirt lifts as he bends, exposing a strip of tanned, muscular lower back. I find myself wondering what it would feel like beneath my fingers and if he has any more ink hidden under there . . . I force my eyes away.
What the hell is wrong with me? I don’t have random illicit thoughts about complete strangers. Especially not strangers who have tattoos and call me princess.
I shake my head and pull open the door on the passenger side. Maybe I have heatstroke or something.
I lay my head back against the seat and close my eyes. But all I can see is the image of my new mechanic pulling his shirt all the way off, sweat dripping off him, me putting my hands . . .
I sit straight up.
Yep, definitely heatstroke. Has to be.

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Man I adore this Scottish/English family called MacGregor/Grant. Every time I return to a book from this series I am filled with anticipation as I know I am about to indulge in some Highland HAPPY! 🙂

The Scandalous Secret of Abigail MacGregor by Paula Quinn is the third book of The MacGregors: Highland Heirs series, which happens to be a spin off of two previous series called The MacGregors and Children of the Mist. Please do yourself a favour and indulge in these two series as it will enhance the experience you get from this third one. I promise you will fall in love with this entire family! 😉

Abigail MacGregor is the daughter of The Chief Robert MacGregor and Davina MacGregor. You learn in their story that Davina is English royalty and this is hush hush. When a summons arrives ordering Davina to appear before England’s Queen Anne, Abigail immediately insists in taking her mother’s place to see what kind of danger lurks. Abigail is one smart and very tough cookie. She is a true highland lass and has proclaimed that one day she will be the leader of her clan.

General Daniel Marlow is Queen Anne’s right hand guy. He is a loyalist, Jacobite Killer (and yes The MacGregor’s are Jacobite’s) and fiercely protective of his Queen as he looks upon her as a mother figure. He is tasked to accompany Abigail to England. Before he leaves, he learns a secret that threatens his relationship with his Queen and leaves him questioning much.

As these two go about their journey together they fight, joke, admire, hate, indulge, push away, protect and question the other. They seem to have this strong pull to the other despite that all odds are against them. Add in some lurking danger, dangerous plots of murder and life ending secrets and well … yup …. you have the makings of one fricken fantastic book.

Oh Paula Quinn, you do write English men yummy and Highlanders HAWT! The love of this family and of your lead characters is palpable but it’s returning to the familiar and seeing how they have faired in their lives that I treasure the most. It’s like a warm blanket and hot cup of tea on a cool rainstormy kind of day .. soul filling! 🙂

Cannot wait for the next book .. and those reading this review, you can read this story somewhat independent of the series, but please believe there is so much more to gain when you understand the history of these beloved characters!

HAPPY READING 😉

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 14, 2015

Some women always get it right. Kindergarten teacher, Meg Thompson, on the other hand, consistently makes the wrong decisions — and she is currently single, pregnant and alone. Meg is determined to make changes in her life, to be a better mother than her own had been. No revolving door of men. No man, period. Just a single-minded focus on her baby. Her resolution would be easier to keep if not for hot cop, Scott Dare. He insinuates himself in her life, making Meg want to believe in happily ever after, even if history has taught her to know better.

When Scott Dare hears Meg’s friends are determined she have a night of hot sex, before her life changes forever, he decides that man must be him. Their one night is mind blowing and life altering. And Scott, a man already burned by his ex-wife, finds himself all in anyway. While protecting Meg from her violent ex and becoming part of her increasingly complicated life, he’s falling hard and he can’t seem to find distance. Not when their bodies respond to each other with such heated intensity and he’s drawn to her unique combination of strength and vulnerability.

But Meg’s future is one Scott has accepted he’ll never have, even if his growing feelings say otherwise …

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: DARE TO HOLD is the sixth installment in Carly Phillips’ adult, contemporary Dare to Love romance series focusing on the Dare family siblings and half-siblings. This is police officer Scott Dare, and kindergarten teacher Meg Thompson’s storyline.

SOME BACKGROUND: Patriarch Robert Dare kept secret a second family from his first wife and children. Each storyline will focus on one of the Dare siblings; the relationship between the two families of adult children; and a father who is trying to amend for the sins of the past.

Told from alternating third person points of view, DARE TO HOLD follows the building relationship between Meg and Scott. Meg finds herself in a difficult position-single, pregnant, and an abusive ex bent on destroying her life and the child she now carries. Enter Scott Dare, an over protective, alpha male who will claim Meg as his own-but first he must stop the threat against Meg and her unborn child.

Meg has a habit of falling for the wrong type of men-bad boys with attitude and in this Meg believes she has stumbled back into the same pattern with the likes of Officer Scott Dare. Scott wants to prove to Meg that she is not the sum of her past but their one-night stand leads Meg to believe that old habits die hard. When Meg’s ex becomes more aggressive, Scott takes Meg under his protection, and in doing so, will begin to fall in love when it is the last thing he wants to do.

The likeable, engaging and colorful secondary and supporting characters include some of Meg’s fellow coworkers at school; Olivia and Dylan ( Dare to Touch 5) ): Ian and Riley (Dare to Love 1); Tyler Dare-the owner of Double Down Security, as well as a number of other Dare siblings. Meg’s ex Mike, as well as his long suffering parents Lydia and Walter play an important role in Meg’s future choices.

DARE TO HOLD is an intoxicating and enjoyable storyline; a building romance between two broken people whose past controls the present. There are moments of drama, heartbreak, seduction, romance and love resulting in a happily ever after for another Dare sibling and the woman he loves. Carly Phillips’s Dare to Love series is addicting – she will capture your imagination and your heart.

Excerpt Black and Hot Pink

Some women always managed to get it right. To make the right choices, to pick the right man, to nail this crazy thing called life. Meg Thompson, on the other hand, managed to end up single and pregnant. But she couldn’t regret the baby growing inside her, and from now on, she was determined to get things right.
She pulled on her favorite pair of jeans, tugged them up over her hips, and unsuccessfully attempted to close the button. She grunted and lay down on the bed, pulling the sides closer together but no luck. She wriggled, sucked in a deep breath, and tried again, only to end up huffing out a stream of air in frustration.
“Didn’t these fit just last weekend?” she asked herself, peeling the denim off her legs and tossing them onto the floor with a groan.
She glanced down at her still-flat stomach, placing her hand over her belly. “How could something I can’t see or feel cause so much upheaval in my life?” And how could she love the baby growing inside her so much already?
A vibrating buzz told her someone was sending her a message. She checked her phone.
Lizzy: Almost ready?
Meg sighed. Her best friend, Elizabeth Cooper, was due to pick her up in ten minutes. Girls’ night out. Or, in Lizzy’s words, hookup night and Meg’s last chance for a hot, no-holds-barred fling before she started to show and her sole focus became being a new mom. Meg was up for girls’ night, but no way would she be picking up a stranger for a one-night stand. Her days of choosing the wrong men were over. Mike was the last in a long line of sucky choices. So not only didn’t she trust her judgment when it came to the opposite sex, it no longer mattered. She was finished relying on men to define her or make her happy.
“Right, baby?” She patted her belly and headed to her closet for a pair of elastic-waist leggings.
* * *
Meg and her friends settled into their seats at Mel’s, a popular spot for casual drinks after work and on the weekends. Mel’s was a dimly lit bistro with a wood-fired oven and grill in the back, dark mahogany-looking tables throughout, and a funky bar where people gathered. Meg loved it here.
She waved to the waiter, who stepped over to their table.
“What can I get you ladies?”
The girls ordered alcoholic drinks, and the good-looking waiter turned to Meg.
“I’ll have a club soda. With a lime.”
“Going for the hard stuff, I see.” He winked and scribbled down her order.
Meg smiled. “Designated driver.” Which wasn’t a lie. Lizzy might have picked her up, but Meg would be the one driving home.
She glanced around at the women she’d ignored for a long time in favor of her asshole ex and, unfortunately, her baby daddy. She was grateful these women were here for her now because Meg had a bad habit of dropping friends in favor of men. Men she looked to for the love and acceptance she’d never received from her own father she barely remembered. Meg sighed and rested her chin on her hands. Her childhood memories included a string of Alicia’s boyfriends who came and went from her young life.
Her mother had set a pattern Meg unconsciously followed. First she’d latched on to Dylan Rhodes, the one and only good guy in her life. He’d been her high school boyfriend and her rock until they broke up before going to college, and then Meg began emulating her mother’s taste by choosing men who always took advantage one way or another.
Luckily she and Dylan had reconnected when they’d moved back to Miami years later, but Meg had over-relied on Dylan instead of standing on her own two feet. It took Dylan falling hard for another woman to wake Meg up to her too-needy ways. Dylan was her friend, but he was now Olivia Dare’s husband. And Meg was determined to be independent. Everything the way it should be.
“Earth to Meg.” Lizzy waved a hand in front of her eyes.
Meg blinked, startled. “Sorry. Just got lost there for a minute.”
“Nowhere good, from the look on your face.” Lizzy tilted her head to one side, her long blonde curls falling over her shoulder. “Everything okay?” Her friend studied her, her brown eyes soft and concerned.
Meg smiled. “Couldn’t be better. I was actually thinking about the changes I’ve made—that I’m determined to keep making in my life. And it’s really good to be out with you guys,” Meg said, meaning it.
“It’s great to be out with you too,” Lizzy said.
The waiter stopped by the table and passed out their beverages. Meg took a long sip of her cold soda, appreciating the way it eased her dry throat.
“Well, you must be doing something right because you’re glowing,” Lizzy said.
“It’s the pregnancy hormones,” Meg muttered.
“No, seriously. You look beautiful,” her friend insisted.
Meg smiled at her. “Thank you.”
Allie Mendez, the office secretary and the third woman in their posse, slipped her cell into her purse and leaned closer to join the conversation. “Maybe I should get myself pregnant, because Lizzy’s right. You’re gorgeous.”
Meg blushed. “And you two need glasses.”
“Not if the guys at the next table are any indication. Look. The blond one can’t take his eyes off you!” Lizzy said, her voice rising in excitement.
Oh no. All Lizzy needed was a target and she’d be aiming Meg his way all night. “I’m sure he’s looking at one of you. Not the pregnant woman in the elastic-waist pants.” Lizzy and her blonde beauty or Allie and her olive skin and luscious curves attracted men wherever they went.
“You must not have looked in a mirror before leaving the house,” Allie told her, a frown on her pretty face.
“Oh, look! He’s coming this way. Now remember. There’s nothing wrong with getting yourself some before your life gets serious.” Lizzy nudged her arm.
“I don’t want some,” Meg muttered. “If he’s so hot, you should—”
“Hi, ladies,” the man said, bracing an arm on the back of Meg’s chair.
“Hi!” Lizzy said too brightly.
“My friends and I would like to buy you all a drink.” He spoke to the table, but his eyes were on Meg.
She shook her head. “We were just having a private convers—”
“We’d like that,” Allie chimed in.
“Mind if we join you then?” he asked, making Meg wonder if he was dense, oblivious, or just that ego-driven.
In response, Lizzy slid her chair away from Meg, making room for the other man to sit. Which, after grabbing his chair and pulling it over to the table, he did. His pals joined them too.
Meg shot her friend an annoyed look.
“Give him a chance,” Lizzy mouthed behind the man’s back.
Rob, Mark, and Ken, they said their names were, as conversation began to flow. Ken was the one closest to Meg, and with his light hair and coloring, he definitely resembled his Barbie-doll namesake. Even if she were interested in a hookup, a preppy man who liked to talk about himself wouldn’t be her choice. She disliked his wandering hands even more.
He brushed her back.
She stiffened.
He sat forward so their shoulders touched. She shoved her chair in the opposite direction.
Somehow he ended up close beside her again, his thigh touching hers.
She was all too ready to go home, but her friends seemed to like the guys they were talking to, and she didn’t want to ruin their time by being rude to Ken. She wouldn’t leave with him, but she’d be pleasant while they were here.
“So what do you do for a living?” he asked.
“I’m a kindergarten teacher.”
He blinked, long lashes framing green eyes. “That’s … brave.”
“Don’t like kids?” she asked, none too sweetly.
He fake-shuddered. “Not for a good long while. But you must have a decent pension plan?” he asked, back on the subject he liked best. Ken was a stockbroker and investor, and soon she found herself listening to all the ways she could save more money by investing with the best of the best. Him, of course.
She hid a yawn behind her hand, and when her bladder informed her she needed a trip to the restroom, she nearly groaned out loud in relief.
“If you’ll excuse me, I need to go … freshen up. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” Meg rose and Ken followed, helping her pull out her chair.
Allie met her gaze. “Gentleman,” she mouthed in approval.
Meg swallowed a groan.
“I’ll be waiting,” Ken said as she walked away.
“Oh, please don’t be,” she said to herself, making her way to the bathroom at the far back of the restaurant.
She spent a long time in the restroom, checking her phone, swiping some gloss on her dry lips, and washing her hands, twice, in her effort to stall returning to the table.
When she did, she paused by Lizzy’s chair and whispered in her friend’s ear. “I’m going to bail. I’m not up to this. I’m really sorry. Will you be okay driving?”
“Of course. I barely had a sip. But I can leave and take you home.”
She shook her head. “No need. You seem to be hitting it off with Mark. I can get Uber,” she said of the car service in most cities, including Miami.
“I’d be happy to drive you,” Ken said.
She hadn’t realized he’d left his seat and had overheard them.
“No, really. Stay and have fun. I’m just not feeling too well.” Which was a lie, but it was nicer than go away, I’m not interested.
Which was ironic, since not too long ago, Meg would have been all too willing to see where things went with a guy who showed her any interest at all. Maybe the baby really was changing her, making her more self-reliant and aware as well as giving her better taste in men.
“Then you really shouldn’t go home alone,” Ken said, grasping her forearm.
Oh no, he didn’t. She pinned him with an annoyed glare. “Let. Go.” And what was it about her that attracted assholes anyway? she asked herself, as she tried to extricate herself without resorting to insults or calling management.
Lizzy jumped up from her seat just as the jerk released her arm, and a familiar voice reverberated in her ear.
“Touch her again and you’ll answer to me.”

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Since finding out his father had another family on the side, Ian Dare swore to be the upstanding, responsible man his cheating parent had never been. When it comes to his relatives, he gives his all but in relationships he offers the bare minimum. But one glimpse of sensual Riley Taylor arouses his dominant and protective instincts and Ian is entranced. He will do anything to possess her … and does. But any future with Riley must include him extending an olive branch to the half-brother who is a constant reminder of the pain he’d rather forget.

Independent and always in control, Riley Taylor makes no apologies for choosing men carefully. Relationships have never been a priority and she believes herself hardened to domineering men – until she meets charismatic Ian Dare. He manages to turn a simple kiss into an all out assault on her senses and when he takes control in the bedroom, she’s stunned to discover she likes it. As their affair heats up, they soon realize they complete each other in ways neither imagined. But Riley’s past is closer than she cares to remember, and her struggles with Ian’s dominance might just cost her everything.

REVIEW: DARE TO LOVE is the first installment in Carly Phillips’s adult, contemporary Dare to Love erotic romance series focusing on the Dare family of siblings and half siblings. This is CEO business entrepreneur Ian Dare and Riley Taylor’s storyline.

Told from alternating third person perspectives, the premise of the storyline is the building relationship between Ian Dare and Riley Taylor but also introduces the eight Dare siblings-all children of Robert Dare who kept secret a second family from his first wife and children. Each storyline will focus on one of the Dare siblings; the relationship between the two families of adult children; and a father who is trying to amend for the sins of the past.

Riley Taylor’s best friend is Alex Dare-the half brother of millionaire businessman Ian Dare and Riley’s potential new boss. When Alex discovers that Riley is currently involved with his older brother, old wounds continue to bleed as past transgressions and painful family history come full circle. Alex does not want Riley dating his brother, and Ian does not want Riley running back to Alex every time something goes wrong. When Riley’s past becomes her present, Riley’s issues of trust continue to pull her in another direction knowing that Ian will be hurt in the process.

The relationship between Riley and Ian is quick to develop; an insta lust/love storyline where our leading couple immediately connect with one another at first sight. From their introduction at a Robert Dare’s birthday celebration, Ian and Riley have felt the attraction but working for Ian Dare meant keeping secret their relationship from staff and employees. When Ian oversteps his authority with Riley’s immediate superior, Riley knows that, like her, Ian has issues of trust and control. There is plenty of push and pull, and fear of rejection. The many $ex scenes are erotic and hot; Ian is an alpha and dominant male, and likes to play around in the bedroom, the office and the shower.

The reader is briefly introduced to all the Dare siblings but much of the supporting role comes through with Alex Dare-a professional football player, whose love for Riley is that of a brother, but once could have been something more-there is a definite family history with issues of control. Riley’s step-mother is her rock and support, while Alex takes on the role of big brother and protector. The Dare family patriarch-Robert Dare-tries to make amends with his eldest son; and Ian’s mother tells a different side of the story of what happened so many years before.

Carly Phillips DARE series is about family, issues of trust, and falling in love. There are moments of heartbreak and betrayal; pain and anguish; and the revelation that the children cannot atone for the sins of the father. DARE TO LOVE is a quick read; a romantic but predictable storyline with a happily ever after for Ian and Riley. If you like a steamy sex with your romance then DARE TO LOVE is the perfect place to start.

REVIEW:  DARE TO SURRENDER is the third installment in Carly Phillips adult, contemporary Date to Love erotic romance series focusing on the Dare family of cousins and siblings. This is hotel and nightclub owner Gabriel Dare and former designer Isabelle Masters’s storyline. Each story in the Dare to Love series can be read as a stand alone. There is also cross over with the ‘Invitation to Eden’ series focusing on an exclusive island club called Eden- where all of your fantasies really do come true.

Told from alternating first person (Isabelle) and close third person (Gabriel) points of view, the premise follows Gabriel and Isabelle’s building relationship. When Isabelle fled her abusive and cheating boyfriend, she found herself under arrest and in custody for grand theft auto. Her ex had contacted the local police and Decklan Dare was the presiding officer upon Isabelle’s arrest. When his brother Gabriel appears, reminding his brother about a prior engagement, Isabelle recognizes Gabriel from their previous encounters through their mutual membership at the local country club and her ex boyfriend’s connections. Gabriel offers his place as temporary shelter for Isabelle, hoping that she will consider it a permanent move.

There is a prior connection between our leading couple, and in this the sexual relationship is quick to build. Gabriel is a man who likes control in his life and in his bedroom-with a little bit (not too much) of bondage and discipline on the side. When Isabelle’s ex returns to make trouble, she knows it is time to leave and strike out on her own. Isabelle needs time to figure out who and what she wants to be, and in this, Gabriel finds himself needing and wanting Isabelle more than ever before. The $ex scenes are fun and intimate.

The secondary and supporting characters include Gabriel’s brother Decklan, and their sister Lucy who offers Isabelle a chance to help with the opening and design of the latest Club Eden. The cross over finds Lucy and Isabelle on an island vacation where Gabriel ensures that his time allows for he and Isabelle to rekindle their relationship.

DARE TO SURRENDER takes a detour from the original Dare family of siblings. Gabriel, Decklan and Lucy are the cousins-children of Robert Dare’s deceased brother-and in this the series expands to incorporate a larger number of family members and potential stories.

DARE TO SURRENDER is a fast paced, romantic and sexy storyline. There are moments of uncertainty in the wake of past histories, but our couple endeavor to push forward hoping for the happily ever after they both want and deserve. Carly Phillips does an amazing job cohesively blending two series together that makes for an enjoyable and well-rounded read.

REVIEW: DARE TO TOUCH is the fifth installment in Carly Phillips contemporary adult Dare to Love erotic romance series focusing on the Dare family. This is Olivia Dare, executive director of the Miami Thunder, and team travel director Dylan Rhodes storyline-a friends to lovers trope that finds Olivia reluctant to lose her heart-once again.

Told from third person point of view, the storyline follows Olivia and Dylan’s building relationship as they work together towards a common goal. As the Pro Bowl approaches, our couple find themselves trying desperately to keep one of their players from falling off the grid but influence from outside family members find the all star player succumbing to family demands.

Olivia is one of the original Dare siblings first introduced in Dare To Love-the daughter of Robert Dare who had kept secret a second family from his first wife and children, and a man who continues to disappoint his now adult kids. With a past mired in loss and betrayal, Olivia is unwilling to suffer through any more heartbreak but soon finds herself falling in love with Dylan Rhodes.

Dylan’s family history is shrouded in secrets and abandonment, and he fully understands Olivia’s need to protect her heart, but Olivia’s history of heartbreak and family loss finds our heroine unsure about a future with Dylan or any man who is looking for a family and more.

The prior relationship between our couple has already been established, first introduced in Dare to Love book 1. Their sexual chemistry is palpable; their attraction to one another mutual and addicting. Dylan and Olivia have danced around one another but the time has come for Dylan to claim Olivia as his own. The numerous $ex scenes are passionate, intimate and compelling-again, with a little bit of kink on the side.

The secondary and supporting characters include Ian and Riley (Dare to Love #1); Olivia’s brother Scott; Dylan’s ex girlfriend; as well as Dylan’s sister and her family . Several of the Dare siblings and cousins make a cameo appearance lending familiarity and continuity to the storyline.

DARE TO TOUCH brings the focus of the series back to the original Dare siblings with Olivia and Dylan’s story. Carly Phillips keeps the reader’s attention with the ensemble cast of characters for whom we want nothing more than a happily ever after. Carly’s storyline’s are fast paced, erotic, alluring and inviting. She will ‘dare’ you to keep reading-one love story at a time.
