But as the killings continue, can their fiery newfound bond survive an even greater evil—one that threatens all of humanity, Morgonkind, and Moira’s very soul?…

Review:

Waking the Dragon by Juliette Cross is the first book in her new Vale of Stars series. Upon reading the description of this book, I thought this would be a good story for me. I was so wrong, it was an AWESOME book. I am thrilled to add this fascinating world to my must reads, and to have discovered Juliette Cross. I will make one recommendation, when you start this book (and you must read it). There are two novellas that should be read firstSoulfire and Windburn, which is part of her NightWing series. These fast reads are also great, and they will introduce you into this world. The characters in the first two books are a big part of this new series. Trust me when I say these two novellas were equally as awesome.

Moira Cade is our heroine and I loved her from the start. Moira is human, but strong, smart, savvy, independent and the youngest daughter of the rich and powerful Cade family. Moira is Jessen’s sister (the heroine in Soulfire), and an ambitious journalist, who heads her school’s newspaper. Moira is determined to find out who is abducting and violently killing young human women in what looks like a rogue group of Morgon men, and in doing so, she puts herself right in the middle of danger.

Kol is our hero, whom we met in the Nightwing series. He is a powerful dragon hybrid, who is the captain of the Morgon Guard (special forces), and is asked to protect Moira. Not only is Kol a loner, he is fierce, dangerous, arrogant, but he is also a hot gorgeous hunk, even with a scar on his face.

Right from the start, the both of them clashed, each being stubborn and independant, unwilling to bend; but the chemistry between them was intense and in a short period the sparks began to fly. With Moira putting herself in danger as bait to draw out the cult group, Kol finds himself unable to control his feelings for her. Moira herself feels the heat and attraction to Kol, but is determined not to become involved. Once she comes too close to the dangerous and horror situation, her feelings for Kol becomes full force into an intense sexual onslaught that will bring their connection to something neither can deny. Their sexy scenes together were sizzling and burned up the pages (or kindle). I loved them together.

Though their love was getting hotter and hotter, the danger threatens to separate them. Moira will find herself in a couple of situations that had us sitting on the edge of our seats, in fear for her life. The last 1/3 of the book was action-packed, very tense, exciting, nerve-wracking and breathtaking. Will Moira survive? Will Kol be able to bond with Moira?

Waking the Dragon was a fascinating read, from start to finish. Moira and Kol were a super couple, and it was great to spend time with other couples (Lucius & Jessen & Lorian and Scorcha) from the first two books in Nightwing. This is a wonderful series that you should not miss. Thank you, Juliette Cross for bringing me into your wonderful world.

CRAZY FOR THE COMPETITION (Hope Spring #2) by Cindi Madsen-a review

Crazy for the Competition

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 9, 2015

The road to trouble is paved with sweet temptation…

Always the rebel in her ultra-conservative family, Quinn Sakata dreams of quitting her dad’s real-estate business and restoring the old Mountain Ridge Bed and Breakfast in her hometown of Hope Springs. Except that Quinn’s not the only person bidding on it. Worse still, her competitor is her high school crush, Heath Brantley, who is all kinds of ripped, tattooed hotness…

So much for her “nice, conservative boys” rule.

Heath has his own reasons for bidding on Mountain Ridge, and he won’t give in without a fight – even to the red-lipped hottie with a sailor’s mouth. But when their rivalry shifts into an unexpected zing of chemistry, Heath realizes he’s in deep trouble. Because it’s inevitable that emotions will get involved, and he needs to keep his eyes on the prize before they both get hurt.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: CRAZY FOR THE COMPETITION is the second installment in Cindi Madsen’s adult, contemporary Hope Springs romance series focusing on the people of Hope Springs, Wyoming. This is auto mechanic/ musician Heath Brantley, and real estate agent Quinn Sakata’s storyline. CRAZY FOR THE COMPETITION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty . Any important information from the previous storyline is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives CRAZY FOR THE COMPETITION focuses on the building relationship between Quinn and Heath, as well as their competing proposals for restoring and renovating the old Mountain Ridge Bed and Breakfast. Quinn is hoping to restore the B&B to its’ original purpose, while Heath has plans to develop a hunting lodge that he and his older brother Cam will run together. When the local council is unable to make a decision, Heath and Quinn are roped into building a float for the local parade.

Quinn has had a crush on Heath since high school but three years his junior, Quinn was never on Heath’s radar. Heath has a bit of a reputation with the woman; Quinn is saving herself for marriage. Quinn’s Japanese ancestry finds our heroine caught between worlds: her family’s honor and Quinn’s relationship with a man considered less than desirable by her mom and dad. As the council considers both propositions for the run down B&B, our leading couple will find themselves falling in love knowing one or both will lose in the end.

The relationship between our couple is that of a developing friendship to falling in love. Because Quinn does not believe in sex before marriage, there is no $ex or sexual imagery although the desire for one another is off the charts.

Royce and Sadie from book one –Second Chance Ranch- plays supporting roles; Sadie is Quinn’s best friend, and the lead singer in the band with whom Heath plays. We are introduced to Quinn’s well to do and over protective Japanese parents whose image of their eldest child is less than positive. Quinn is a woman who seems to disappoint her parents whatever it is she plans to do. In this, much of Quinn’s self esteem hinders on her parent’s approval and love. Heath’s family situation finds our hero embarrassed by his father’s lifestyle, and his own need to protect his younger brother.

The blurb notes that Quinn has a ‘sailor’s mouth’ but truth be told, the language our heroine uses is not even close to bad….if one believes the use of the word ‘sh*t’ constitutes bad language then they haven’t really heard a true sailor mouth at work. In fact, I believe the word sh*t is only expressed three times in the story and one of those times by Quinn’s sister Maya. As this is truly a story of romance with no $ex or sexual situations, I believe the blurb is slightly misleading with its’ description of Quinn Sakata’s ‘sailor mouth’.

CRAZY FOR THE COMPETITION is a sweet story of romance and building love; family and friendship. The characters are engaging and realistic; the storyline enjoyable and fresh; the happily ever after heartwarming and wonderful. If you are looking for a simple, uncomplicated and ‘clean’ read, CRAZY FOR THE COMPETITION

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 25, 2015

To overcome your fear, you must first face it.

Someone is out to destroy Greg Simmons and everyone he has ever loved. After an accident leaves his teenage daughter depressed and distraught, Greg will do anything to make her happy again, Olivia Marshall lost both her fiancé and her cousin in a deadly avalanche. She has vowed never to set foot on a ski hill again. But now, working as a bodyguard with Anderson Security, Olivia must face her greatest fears to save Greg and his daughter.

Something about Olivia’s determination strikes a chord in Greg, but will she be the salvation he needs, or will he be her destruction?

••••••••••••

REVIEW: All for Love is a new mystery/romance from author Suzanne Matthews. It’s fast paced and action packed, with intricate plotting.

The plot revolves around Andrew Gregory Robertson (aka. George Stanton, author) “Greg”. He is cousin to Tim Robertson, multi-billionaire and CEO of Robertson Enterprises.
Greg has a problem. He had an affair with actress Nadia, and she didn’t tell him she was pregnant until after they broke up. She needed money to raise their daughter Sheena, and he provided. She only let him see his daughter two weeks a year, and pretty much told the girl it was because he didn’t care about her (yeah, great mom). He loves his daughter, but essentially doesn’t know much about her.

A bad car accident killed Nadia and a bomb that was under the car, went off…severely injuring Sheena. She’s a great young skier and was hurt badly. She would like to try skiing again, but they don’t know who set the bomb under the car. Notes found say it’s someone trying to hurt Greg by killing those close to him. So he needs a bodyguard for Sheena and himself, a new identity to keep the press away. So, Tim and Jack have a plan.

Through intricate plotting I think you should read yourself, Greg will marry Olivia Cummings, and employee of Marshall Security and ex-Olympic skier until the killer is revealed, then marriage will be annulled. She will help train Sheena and be the bodyguard. What is it they say about best laid plans?

So no more spoilers…the book is fast paced and well written with entwined romance, humor and all that dangerous stuff to boot. It’s very hard to put down…so of course I didn’t. If you’re in the mood for a wonderful exciting ride and a growing love story…this is your ticket!

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. What seems a stretch, is actually well explained with a bit of logic and some female intuition for good measure. I loved it, I think you will too! Enjoy!

excerpt

“Rule number one. I decide what access you have and when. Until we know what happened, you will most definitely not have physical access to Evan’s office or any of his physical belongings, including his laptop.” Garrett didn’t miss a beat as he turned to her and continued, “I’m well aware of your, how should I say, ability to acquire his files by other means. So while I appreciate you attempting to get them in a legitimate way, you will not have access to all the files until I’m comfortable that you have a solid understanding of what we do here. Clearances only tell me that you can be trusted with information. They don’t tell me that you grasp why we are doing the things we are doing here. So for now, I need you to focus on infrastructure. Convince the board that the outsourcing is mutually beneficial for both our companies.”
“Outsourcing information systems at Emerson Industries to DLar-Tech? I can do that in my sleep. But in the files you gave me, they referenced something called a PFx Prototype. Now I don’t know what that is, but if it’s in his files, they may ask…”“They won’t ask you.”
“But…”
“Rule number two. I make the rules. If it comes up, I’ll stop the discussion. Tomorrow’s about introducing you to the board, establishing credibility. Your résumé speaks for itself, but Lars is responsible for bringing you in.”“So I’m interviewing?” She smiled.

“Something like that. Decision’s already been made. I know it. They know it. But it’s essential they feel comfortable with you.”

“I’ll do my best to sell them on the outsource plan. I can do this.”

“Rule number three.” As Garrett considered his next words, he lifted his eyes to hers, attempting not to stare as she toyed with the hem of her skirt. She shifted on the couch, and he swore he saw the faintest hint of a small tattoo on her inner thigh. Interesting. Miss Reynolds was a dichotomy of personalities. Her business woman persona was rigid in many ways, yet she bent rules when needed. Perhaps part of her yearned to rebel?

“Here’s the thing, Selby. My company isn’t just about technologies. I’ve built this by taking risks.”

“Don’t you mean danger?”

“To some but not us. Nor our customers either. We do this to experience life in a way that most people never see. The exhilaration of dropping from the sky.”

“Exhilaration?”

“Yes. The kind that takes your breath away. Like the best fucking sex you’ve ever had in your life. Do you know what that feels like?” he asked, never moving to touch her. He watched as she struggled to keep an impassive expression.

“Um, I don’t think that’s something you really need to know.”

“Oh but I do, Selby. And do you want to know why?”

She nodded, her fingers moving to her bloodstained blouse, where she fidgeted with a button.

“Because these are things that remind us we’re alive. Sex. Fear. Anticipation.” Garrett had had enough of pretending. Fuck it. I’ll apologize to Lars later. He stood and walked behind the sofa. Placing his palms on her shoulders, he steadied her before she had a chance to move. He knelt, bringing his lips to her ear. “Here at Emerson Industries we strive to bring customers face-to-face with the mind-blowing rush they want. Sometimes it’s a high-tech operation that requires calculated strategy. Sometimes it’s as easy as ramping up technology in a way to let Mother Nature provide the high. Stratospheric skydiving suits and helmets, to experimental polymer surfboards. We understand needs, enabling that rush. We push boundaries.”

“I’ve read about your company, how you built it,” she challenged.

“But you haven’t felt it, have you, Selby?” he pressed, his lips brushing against her ear. The subtle scent of her perfume teased his nostrils. Her fingers glided up over his and he knew he had her. He would make her understand, teach her. She’d breathe in the rush of the high, and never be the same.

“Mr. Emer…Garrett,” she began. “I can’t…I don’t do the things you do. I just can’t.”

“But you want to feel it. That rush from base jumping or from riding a wave. We all have our own threshold of how much is enough, how far we’d go. Tell me, Miss Reynolds, do you really want to learn about our culture?”

“But of course I do,” she quickly responded.

“What’s enough for you? Where’re your limits? How do you get your rush? Hacking into places you shouldn’t be? No, no, no, that’s much too easy,” he breathed. “Singing in front of a live audience? Is that where you come alive? Grinding your ass into my cock the other night? Did that do it?”

“I didn’t mean to…we need to talk about that.”

“Yes, I think we do, because I know you’re capable of pushing the envelope, too, sweetheart. I want to feel you tremble, Selby.” Garrett placed his lips on her neck and heard her sigh. He dragged the tip of his tongue behind her ear, tasting her skin. His dick was hard as rock, but he’d take her only after she trusted him, after she learned why this company was so damn important to him. “That rush you feel right now. That’s what I’m going to teach you. In the bedroom and out.”

“Who said we’re going to…?”

“Limits. Boundaries. They’re all meant to be bent, sometimes even broken. And I suspect we’re going to break a few together.” Garrett slipped his fingers over her lapel, gliding his hands across her collarbone. Her head lolled back against him, her eyes closed. He smiled at her acquiescence. Jesus, it shouldn’t matter what she did, but there was something about her. “Tomorrow, we’re going to rock the shit out of this board meeting. You’ll do this for me and then we’re going on a personalized tour. Participation isn’t optional.”

Fallen: A Cassidy & Spenser by Carey Baldwin – a Review

Fallen: A Cassidy & Spenser by Carey Baldwin – a Review

FallenAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
A body just fell from the sky onto Hollywood Boulevard.

When a beautiful prostitute is dumped onto the Walk of Fame, FBI profiler Atticus Spenser and forensic psychiatrist Dr. Caitlin Cassidy are called in to solve one of their most baffling cases yet.
The media’s dubbed him the Fallen Angel Killer – a crazed murderer who’s leaving the bodies of high-priced call girls in Los Angeles tourist traps.

Then the killer raises the stakes, demanding that a mysterious celebrity publically admit to his sinful secrets —or he’ll dispose of his latest kidnapped escort. With every “john” the team exposes in their search for Celebrity X, another Hollywood secret is revealed and another charmed life is left in ruins.

Now time is running out, and Cassidy and Spenser will do anything to find the twisted serial killer…before another innocent woman winds up as the next grotesque tourist attraction

Review:

Fallen…in love with this book, more accurately! Carey Baldwin is back to demonstrate her prowess with a psychological thriller. Special Agent Atticus Spenser is collaborating with Dr. Caitlyn Cassidy on a second case in my hometown of Los Angeles. Things were turning romantic in Judgment despite the Man in the Maze killer (review available here), but this new case will rearrange exploration of those feelings. Duty calls and they’re nothing short of dutiful. Fallen is an engaging story with intriguing layers that will hold your attention until the end.

Bodies are falling from the sky yet there isn’t a director yelling ‘Cut!’ to end the scene. Spenser and Caitlyn work fast to ascertain a commonality/pattern among the lovely female victims — profiling at its finest with this pair of experts. Spenser and Caity don’t always agree, but their opposing theories help to hone the process and exact an even more accurate assessment. The banter and dialogue is professional and productive.

Twists and turns lead you nowhere fast, but the investigation along the way is intelligent and compelling. Suspects are considered, but Ms. Baldwin keeps the plot dubious, making our heroes work for the case. When the actual Fallen Angel Killer makes an imperative, last hour demand for “Celebrity X” to reveal his identity (a provocative challenge to say the least), the mystery is spun yet again. Ms. Baldwin leads us down a riveting path to apprehend the killer.

Caity’s always been a wild card, IMO, because of her father’s death. She’s fluent in all things legal, there’s rarely a grey area for her, but there was a correlating epiphany that brought forth an unexpected emotional connection.

“…she couldn’t deny that she was beginning to believe the best way to protect the innocent was to see to it that the guilty were correctly identified in the first place.”

That realization made Caity cognizant and diligent: Don’t exonerate without finding the real killer. Spenser’s own abilities expand with Caitlyn’s new perspective. They are an omnibus force.

Spenser talking down a hostage situation with a calm explanation of lethal force was fabulous. It was described so perfectly, expert balance of facts and dark humor, Ms. Baldwin makes us fall for Spense even harder. That’s one of the brilliant qualities imbued in this character – Spense might be terrifyingly brilliant, but he’s approachable. The psychological profiling is elaborate yet understandable; you follow along like an amateur investigator. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I was on their level — I just want them to be my friends in real life!

I don’t mean to cut to the chase, but the Fallen Angel Killer resolves ingeniously. It was creative and risky, expertly catering to the murderer’s pathology. It was epic. You outdo yourself, Ms. Baldwin.

Our H/H have more than earned that Tahitian diversion. Ms. Baldwin teases us with stolen kisses, we’re more than ready for more, but she’s touching on it with a finesse that keeps us entranced. The time is now, we’re ready, lol, but the long arm of the FBI beckons yet again…to Dallas, Texas. Spenser and Caity are in demand so we’ll need to be patient on the romantic front. Fallen is a terrific addition to a dynamic series.

Hawkin Play, the bad boy rock star with a good guy heart, has lived a lifetime of cleaning up after his twin brother’s mistakes. Hunter’s most recent screw-up could land Hawke in jail and risk the band’s future. Hawke agrees to guest lecture at a local college to stay in the judge’s good graces—and a bet with his bandmate to seduce his sexy teaching assistant is icing on the cake.

Quinlan Westin is harder to bed than Hawke imagined. She knows his type and is determined to avoid the rocker at all costs—even if their attraction runs deeper than simple lust.

Just as Hawke might finally be winning over the girl, his brother has other plans. When Hunter realizes his twin finally has a weakness, he’ll stop at nothing to take advantage…

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: SWEET ACHE is the sixth installment in K. Bromberg’s adult, contemporary Driven erotic, romance series. This is Hawkin Play (lead singer for the rock band Bent) and Quinlan Westin’s storyline. We were first introduced to Quinlan throughout Colton and Rylee’s storylines-Quinlan is Colton’s sister. SWEET ACHE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Hawkin and Quinlan) SWEET ACHE focuses on the building relationship between our leading couple, and Hawkin’s rapport and association with the band, and his immediate family. Hawkin’s life appears to be spiraling out of control but behind the scenes, Hawke continues to take the fall for his twin brother’s mistakes. Serving a twelve week sentence, on his brother’s behalf, Hawkin finds himself the guest lecturer at the local college where he meets the beautiful and not easily played Quinlan Westin. What ensues is Hawkin’s seduction of Quin reinforced by a bet with his fellow band mate.

The relationship between Quin and Hawke is acrimonious at the start. Quinlan is all too aware of the celebrity lifestyle having lived through her brother’s years as the number one Indy driver in the world, and Hawkin Play pushes all of Quin’s buttons within the first few minutes of introduction. As a rock star and celebrity, Hawkin is used to getting what he wants-and he wants Quinlan before the end of his ‘term served.’ As Hawke pursues Quin, the band sits on the sidelines watching the train wreck unfold. The $ex scenes are erotic, provocative, and graphic. Hawke likes to talk dirty in the bedroom.

Hawkin’s family history is dark and disturbing. Colton’s past was rife with abuse and neglect; Hawkin’s past sees a mother’s desperate attempts to hide the truth and a father’s failure. Our hero shoulders the blame for so many family issues, that counseling should be a mandated part of his everyday life.

The secondary characters include Indy drive Luke Mason, whose attraction to Quin is all encompassing but Quin plays Luke for a fool and uses the race car driver to forget her attraction to Hawkin Play. Quin’s best friend Layla is quick to give our heroine a push in the right direction; Colton and Rylee have cameo appearances (some via phone or text) throughout the story. We are also introduced to the band BENT-Vince, Gizmo, and Rocket, as well as their lawyer and best friend Benji. Hawke’s brother Hunter is the requisite evil as drug addiction spiked with jealousy throw our hero off his game and head long into more self-deprecation, grief and guilt.

SWEET ACHE is an emotional and intense storyline. We get up close and personal with our hero as he struggles to come to terms with his ailing mother, and drug addicted brother-both of whom destroy a little of our hero’s soul with every encounter. Quinlan is a strong heroine whose prior relationships have been less than successful, but it is her need to ‘save’ Hawke that is at the heart of the story.

K. Bromberg will captivate your imagination; her passion for emotional and broken heroes is intoxicating and inspiring. The destructive nature of childhood trauma, drug addiction and mental illness is dramatic in its’ presentation; striking in its’ reality; alarming in its’ reach. The characters are colorful, charismatic and real; the premise impassioned; the romance erotic and fierce. The volatile need for acceptance and forgiveness pushes the envelope of love and a happily ever after.

excerpt

Well, shit. Guess there’s not going to be any calm before the next storm. I look at my brother and sigh.
I hit the road, drive for what feels like hours. I don’t know where I’m going or what I’m looking to find, but as long as I keep moving, my past can’t catch up to me.
At least it’s a good idea in theory because I can’t outrun this shit. The stuff I want to and the stuff I don’t want to.
I end up the one place I used to go to be alone, to think, and as I stare at the Hollywood sign from my seat on the grass at the Griffith Park Observatory, I love the feeling that I’m this little person in this big world. The idea comforts me some. The notion that on the grand scale of things my problems are minute. Someone out there has it way worse.
And no one expects a rock star to be here so with my hat pulled low on my head, I’m able to disappear.
I stare down below to the city where as a little boy, scared and traumatized, I wondered how all of the dreams inside my head could ever see the light of day when I felt like I had the responsibility of the world on my small shoulders. But I did. And I made it.
So why do I feel like I’m still not enough? For my brother? To make my mother better? For Quinlan to even want me beyond the killer sex we have? For the fans who scream and sing my lyrics like they live them when they have no fucking clue the meaning behind the words?
I scrub my hands over my face, needing a drink, craving an ice cream cone, and wanting the feeling of Quinlan’s arms wrapped around me as she silently sits there and just is with me.
My mind veers to Hunter. I push the guilt away, hold on to my gut check rationalization that he deserved it, and realize that’s the trouble I’m having here. Going with my gut versus going with the bullshit promises I’ve lived by forever.
My stomach churns and my head feels like Gizmo’s banging the hell out of it with his sticks. I shove up off the grass, needing to get the fuck out of here, my heart and head in conflict and for the first time in forever I dare to think what could happen if my heart finally won for once.

About the book: Release Date June 8, 2015

We first met Bianca and Jakob in Illusion, stranded on a desert island and thrown into one another’s arms. But each of them has dark secrets yet to be uncovered…

In this new e-novella tied to the Swept Away series, New York Times bestselling author J.S. Cooper reveals even more surprises about the dangerous Bradley family…

Jakob knows Bianca’s appearance at the Bradley, Inc. stockholders meeting was no accident. He knows her family ruined his mother’s life. And he knows that he can’t keep his hands off her. But it’s what he doesn’t know that might put both of them in deadly danger.

•••••••••

REVIEW: MASQUERADE is the second prequel novella in J.S. Cooper’s adult, contemporary Swept Away romantic suspense series focusing on Bianca London and Jakob Bradley. Throughout the series the reader had been pulled into Bianca’s search for the truth about her mother’s death and her father’s connections to Bradley Inc.

Told from first person point of view (Jakob), MASQUERADE follows Jakob’s need to uncover the who and what of Bianca London. Bianca’s family is tied indirectly to the death of Jakob’s mother, and the Bradley connection to the London family borders the unethical and illegal. Jakob and his half brother David are convinced that Bianca is out to destroy the company name, and a plan is set into motion to extract all of the information Bianca knows about their family connections.

MASQUERADE reveals all of the players in a game that will see Bianca London caught in a game of cat and mouse-but who is the cat and how many mice are trapped in the Bradley maze. The premise follows the set up and potential take down of a woman whose life is about to unravel; where betrayal is around every corner; where the people she loves are not the people she has come to know.

But he doesn’t know he’s risking a lot more than his heart.

Review:

All the Right Places by Jenna Sutton is her debut novel, which is the 1st book in her Riley O’Brien & Co. series. This was an enjoyable sexy romance, and written very well by Jenna Sutton, which was very impressive, as it is her debut novel. I will be reading her next book in this fun series.

The focus of this series centers on Riley O’Brien & Co denim empire. Quinn O’Brien is our hero and immediately caught our attention, as he waits for the elevator to bring him to his office. While he waits, he stares at the backside of a young redhead; after all that is his favorite part of the human body. 🙂  His company does sell jeans, and the perfect fitting makes Riley O’Brien at the top of their field. But Quinn is not too happy to see that this nice butt does not have the Riley O’Brien label.

Amelia Winger is our heroine, and I thought she was great. Amelia is working on becoming a successful designer, and has been offered a position to design accessories for Riley O’Brien to help increase sales for the women’s division. Quinn’s sister, Teagan has been after him to allow her to change the face of jeans for woman, which has become a disaster. The men’s jeans are perfect, but they are not good for women. Amelia agrees with Teagan, and she not only will design new accessories, she will secretly design new woman’s jeans, which Teagan will push at the right time.

But Amelia doesn’t plan on falling for the sexy Quinn, and does everything she can to avoid him at all costs. Quinn can’t resist Amelia, and in a short time, they secretly have an affair that is sizzling all the way through. There was a bit of erotic in their romance, which was so well done, and I loved Quinn and Amelia together.

Amelia rightfully worries that once Quinn finds out about her working with his sister, she will lose him. What happens when Quinn discovers the deception?

This was such a wonderful delightful, steamy, and fun romantic story. All the secondary characters were great, and added nicely to the story. The background of the denim business was very well done, and the family oriented storyline was great. I found myself totally immersed into this fun story, enjoying it all, which I read it in one day.   Jenna Sutton has done such a great job in writing this wonderful romance, and if this is her debut novel, she certainly has a wonderful career ahead of her, and I’ll be there reading her books as they are released. I wholly recommend you to read All the Right Places, as it was a fun, and sexy romance.

Interview

Jenna Sutton
Hi Jenna. Thank you for taking the time to answer some questions today.

We are always looking forward to reading about the author behind the book.

Jenna:  Thank you for having me, and thank you for your interest in ALL THE RIGHT PLACES. I’m so excited to be here!

TRC:  Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Jenna:  I’m an avid reader, and I’m a huge fan of the romance genre. I started reading romances at a young age. My mom had no problem with my reading preferences, but my dad wasn’t quite so accepting.

When I was in high school (and without a boyfriend, I must point out), my dad warned me that reading romance novels would prevent me from ever finding a mate. “Those books are giving you unrealistic expectations of men,” he insisted. “No real man could ever live up to a fictionalized version of romance.”

My dad was wrong; romances didn’t give me unrealistic expectations of men, but they did give me a strong sense of self-value. And when I met my husband, he was way better than any hero I had ever read!

Before I decided to write a romance, I worked as a journalist. So in a way, I’ve always been a writer, but I wrote fact rather than fiction. My life as a journalist gave me a great foundation for fiction writing because I’ve been outlining, researching, and meeting deadlines for more than a decade.

TRC:  Have you always been interested in writing?

Jenna:  I’ve always been interested in storytelling. When I was a little girl, I spent hours with my best friend making up stories. It was our favorite thing to do. As we got older, the stories always included a strong romantic element, usually featuring our respective crushes. Thankfully, we never put those stories down on paper. I shudder to think what would have happened if anyone had actually read them!

TRC: All The Right Places is your debut novel. Can you tell us your reaction when you found out your book was going to be published?

Jenna:  Let me tell you a story—when my husband proposed, I was elated… ecstatic… euphoric… and a whole bunch of other e-words. I loved him to distraction and wanted nothing more than to be his wife. But instead of screaming “Yes! A thousand times yes!” I asked him, “Are you sure about this? You’re going to be stuck with me for life, you know.”

So that’s me… when I really, really want something, and I actually get it—either through hard work or sheer luck or a combination of both—I have a hard time believing my good fortune. And when I saw the email from my agent that Berkley wanted to acquire ALL THE RIGHT PLACES and do a three-book deal, I thought I was hallucinating or maybe having a bad reaction from the ham sandwich I ate for lunch.

Once I realized the book deal was actually the real thing, I was so relieved because my hard work had paid off. And I was also relieved because my agent’s faith in me had been rewarded. And to be honest, I also felt a lot of pressure because I knew that getting a book deal was really just the beginning. There’s so much work that goes into publishing a book, and of course, you still have to connect with readers and sell novels.

TRC:  Can you tell us how you came up with the idea for your Riley O’Brien & Co. romance series? Also, how many books do you have planned?

Jenna:  The idea for ALL THE RIGHT PLACES came from a bumper sticker. My husband and I were running errands, and as we sat at a stop light, I noticed the bumper sticker on the car in front of us. It advocated breast cancer awareness, and it said: Save the Tatas.

I pointed out the bumper sticker to my husband, and he pointed out that there are a lot of words for breasts. And then he oh-so-helpfully proceeded to name them all: boobs, hooters, jugs, melons, rack, tits… oh, the list just goes on and on.

I started thinking that there were a lot of words for butt, too: ass, backporch, badonkadonk, booty, caboose, derrière… again, so many words, so little time.

That thought led me to another – listing the synonyms for butt would be a fun beginning for a romance novel. But who would be thinking about butts all the time? And then it came to me – someone who was involved in the clothing business.

And the most popular clothing for butts? Jeans.

Right now, there are three full-length Riley O’Brien & Co. novels. The second one, COMING APART AT THE SEAMS, is scheduled for publication on Dec. 1, 2015. The third in the series, HANGING BY A THREAD, will come out in spring 2016. I’ve also written two Riley O’Brien & Co. novellas, but I don’t have any specifics on when they’ll be published.

TRC:  Can you please tell us the premise of this series?

Jenna:  Around the world, people wear Riley O’Brien & Co.’s iconic jeans, known as Rileys. Unfortunately, competition from designer denim is eroding the company’s market share, and the women’s division is in really bad shape. The company has alienated its female consumers, and as a result, it is struggling to stay competitive and relevant.

That business challenge is the basis for the series and sets up the external conflict for the entire series, and especially ALL THE RIGHT PLACES. This generation of O’Briens—risk-averse Quinn, quick-witted Cal, and strong-willed Teagan—have differing opinions on how to solve the problem.

All the Right PlacesTRC:  Last week, All the Right Places was released. Would you please give us a brief description of the first book in your series?

Jenna:  Quinn O’Brien, the great-great grandson of Riley O’Brien & Co.’s founder, is currently running the family business. He reluctantly partners with up-and-coming designer Amelia Winger for a new line of accessories. Quinn views the partnership as a last ditch attempt to salvage the women’s division. Amelia, however, views the partnership as one piece of a larger plan—one that Quinn knows nothing about. She fights her attraction to Quinn, not only because of their professional relationship, but also because she’s working behind his back. But Quinn, with his broad shoulders, smoky blue eyes, and sexy smile, is hard to resist.

TRC:  You write sexy contemporary romance. Do you have any desire to write other genres?

Jenna:  I like to read just about every type of romance including historical, erotica, new adult, and romantic suspense. I briefly considered the idea of writing a new adult novel because I had an idea for one, but unfortunately, I don’t think my voice is suited for new adult. I also have an idea for a romantic suspense series, but I don’t know if or when I’ll get around to working on it. I have a desire to write something a little darker, similar to Anne Stuart. I have an author crush on that woman.

TRC:  What are you currently working on?

Jenna:  I am working on a new series, and I am really excited about it! I don’t want to share too much about the first book, but I can tell you that my hero and heroine meet in a hotel bar and have a one-night stand (something that is out of character for both of them). They think they’ll never see each other again. They also think it will be easy to forget what happened in that hotel room. They’re wrong, on both counts.

TRC:  What is your writing process? Do you like to write at specific times, in a special place?

Jenna:  My writing process is fairly structured, and I think that’s because I worked as a journalist for so many years. In that line of work, I had to deal with hard deadlines and topics that I often found uninteresting, and the best way to manage my workload was to create outlines and follow them.

Before I start a book, I outline it from beginning to end and really flesh out each chapter. I already know how the story is going to end before I even open up a Word document to type the first word. On average, my outlines are about 100 pages.

When I write, my goal is to complete a chapter in one sitting. I don’t like to start a chapter and leave it unfinished because it’s hard for me to get back into the scene. I don’t really prefer to write at any specific time, though I usually prefer to write in my home office. It’s comfy, spacious, and filled with a lot of natural sunlight.

I feel like I have a pretty good handle on my writing process, but I’m still trying to figure out how to balance the writing part of being a published author (producing books) with the business part (marketing my work and connecting with readers).

TRC:  Many authors have friends or family, that they bounce ideas and information back and forth. Do you have anyone you like to discuss your stories with?

Jenna:  My sister, Steffanie, and my critique partner, Jamie, are my go-to gals when it comes to brainstorming and plotting my stories. My sister is a very hard-to-please reader, and by hard-to-please I mean that she will skip to the final pages of a book if she’s bored. I know that if I can satisfy my sister, then I have a good shot at satisfying other readers, too. Jamie really helps me figure out character motivation and untangle plot snags. She is an idea generator extraordinaire. I am blessed to have both of them on my team.

TRC:  When you are not writing, what other interests or hobbies do you have?

Jenna:  My favorite thing to do is spend time with my husband. He’s the funniest and most interesting person I know, although it’s true that his sense of humor is more 13-year-old boy than adult male. I also love to read, and I am trying to broaden my reading horizons beyond romance. The problem is, I am kind of hung up on the whole happily ever after thing, and a happy ending isn’t the same thing, not at all. I recently started practicing yoga, and I really enjoy it, but wow, I am not very graceful. Every class is a lesson in humility. And, after years of disliking sports, I suddenly love football, both college and pro.

TRC:  Would you like to add anything else?

Jenna:  ALL THE RIGHT PLACES features likable characters, witty dialogue, authentic emotion, and sizzling sex scenes. As my heroine, Amelia, would say, it’s “orgasmically delicious”.

LIGHTNING ROUND

Favorite Food: chicken poblano enchiladas

Favorite Dessert: orange buttermilk cake with mocha fudge frosting

I also like Younger, which is produced by Darren Star, the guy behind Sex and the City, and I’m a long-time fan of Law & Order: SVU.

TRC:  I feel bad too. I really enjoyed Forever, and Ioan Grufudd.

Favorite Movie or TV Celebrity: Hugh Jackman. He can act, sing, dance, and OMG, that smile and those abs. Plus, he seems like a genuinely nice guy who loves his wife and children. That’s the kind of guy I’d like to know.

Favorite literary character (not your own):   Hardy Cates, the hero of Lisa Kleypas’ BLUE-EYED DEVIL. That man is finger-lickin’ good.
