Review:

Vipers Rule by Stephanie Tyler is the 2nd book in her Skulls Creek series. This series is about the Skulls Creek Vipers motorcycle club members and the women in their lives.  Vipers Rule is about a couple who have not seen each other since just before graduation, which had ended badly.  Maddie Wells is our heroine, and she returns to Skulls Creek to stay with her grandmother, after leaving her cheating husband and their business.  On the way home, Maddie has a flat tire, and when someone stops to help her, she is shocked to see Tals.

Tals Garrity is the enforcer for the Vipers, and he is the boy she left years before.  Tals is equally shocked to see Maddie, and though he helps her fix the tire, he tries to remain distant.  When Maddie ran away years before, she left Tals in trouble with the law. Though he is ok, he is afraid to allow himself to become involved with her again.  Maddie comes from a rich family, and he is considered unworthy of her, as he is part of the motorcycle club.

But Maddie is determined to win Tals back, as she knows she still cares for him.  Her youthful mistake was to protect him too, as well as run from her fears.  She is now strong enough to face them, and fight for the man she truly wants.  At first it isn’t easy, but soon Tals can’t resist the woman who owns his heart.  But at their first date, someone has made an attempt on Maddie’s life, and Tals will pull her into Vipers to protect her.

We get to spend time with many of the characters we met in the first book; Calla, Cage, Preacher, Tenn, and Holly.  The Vipers protected Maddie, as they knew she belonged to Tals, though some of them remembered the past, and were not too kind to Maddie.  This will in time  change, as they see how much she loves Tals.

This is an intense exciting story, as Maddie’s ex will accidently bring danger to her, due to his unsavory connections.  The romance between Maddie and Tals was hot, volatile, causing the steam to rise.  I loved Tals and Maddie together..a great couple.   Once again, Stephanie Tyler has given us an exciting storyline, with great characters, dangerous adventure.  and a wonderful sizzling couple to root for.  I wholly recommend you to read this series.

Burned by Darkness (Dragons of Eternity #1) by Alexandra Ivy-a review

BURNED BY DARKNESS (Dragons of Eternity #1) by Alexandra Ivy-a review

Burned by Darkness

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 30, 2015

The Dragons of Eternity were once creatures of myth and legend. Now they’ve returned to the world, prepared to claim what’s rightfully theirs…

Tayla is desperate for a place to call home. After years on the run, the young imp impulsively buys a teahouse and is determined to build a new life. Unfortunately, she’s barely opened the doors when she’s tracked down by the dragon who purchased her from troll slave-traders. He demands she pay off her debts…in his harem.

Baine has devoted a quarter of a century to tracking down his beautiful concubine. And now that he has her in his grasp, he’s not about to let her go. But it’s soon apparent that he isn’t the only demon hunting her. He must uncover her secrets or risk losing her forever.

•••••••••

REVIEW: BURNED BY DARKNESS is the first installment in Alexandra Ivy’s adult, contemporary, new Dragons of Eternity paranormal romance series-a spin off from Alexandra’s Guardians of Eternity PNR series. This is dragon shifter Baine, and imp Tayla’s storyline. Our little gargoyle Levet crosses over and establishes himself a match making business .

Told from several third person perspectives BURNED BY DARKNESS finds our heroine on the run. For twenty five years Tayla has barely stayed one step ahead of the dragon who seeks Tayla as part of his hoard. What Tayla doesn’t know is that she is payment for a debt owed by someone close-someone she hasn’t seen or heard from in years. What ensues is a building relationship between Tayla and Baine, and Baine’s need to claim Tayla as his mate.

BURNED BY DARKNESS is a quick read that focuses on the history between dragons, imps, demons and fae. There is also a hierarchy of dragon power that finds Baine at the helm of his own following, but one that does not usurp the power of the man who sired our hero. Baine’s father wants Tayla for his own purpose, but Baine must ensure that Tayla is protected at all times.

The relationship between Tayla and Baine is acrimonious as Tayla has been on the run from Baine and his father. But there is a definite attraction between our leading couple, one that does not go unnoticed by a perpetually nosy gargoyle, or Baine’s assistant-half dragon-Char. The $ex scenes are limited in number; there is some spark and heat where it concerns Tayla and Baine’s sexual activity.

BURNED BY DARKNESS includes plenty of humor thanks to Levet and his inability to use modern English slang. Alexandra Ivy introduces her readers to another entertaining and wonderful paranormal series that is very similar in style, world building and supernatural character development as her successful Guardians of Eternity. I suspect there will be many cross over characters in future storylines.

Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis – a Review

Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis – a Review

Second Chance SummerAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / The Book Depository / BAM

Description:
RESCUE ME

Cedar Ridge, Colorado, is famous for crisp mountain air, clear blue skies, and pine-scented breezes. And it’s the last place Lily Danville wants to be. But she needs a job, and there’s an opening at the hottest resort in her hometown. What has her concerned is the other hot property in Cedar Ridge: Aidan Kincaid-firefighter, rescue worker, and heartbreaker. She never could resist that devastating smile . . .

The Kincaid brothers are as rough and rugged as the Rocky Mountains they call home. Aidan has always done things his own way, by his own rules. And never has he regretted anything more than letting Lily walk out of his life ten years ago. If anyone has ever been in need of rescuing, she has. What she needs more than anything are long hikes, slow dances, and sizzling kisses. But that can only happen if he can get her to give Cedar Ridge-and this bad boy-a second chance . .

Review:

Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis is the 1st book in her new Cedar Ridge series. Shalvis recently ended her successful Lucky Harbor series, but I am happy to say Second Chance Summer will allow us to smoothly transition to a new town, Cedar Ridge, Colorado, and discover wonderful new characters to fall in love with. Jill Shalvis is one of the best in contemporary romance, and she proves it once again with the start of the Cedar Ridge series.

Lily Danville is our heroine, as she returns to Cedar Ridge after 10 years. A terrible tragedy caused Lily to leave, and now that she desperately needs a job, she returns to accept a job offer from her friend, Jonathan. Lily successful worked in a high profile salon, catering to the rich and famous, until her boss asked her to leak some private information, and when push came to shove, he let Lily take the blame. She then goes home, where she ran away from years before, unable to face her tragic losses.

Aidan Kincaid is our hero, and a fabulous one at that. He is not only a gorgeous sexy hunk,he is also a do gooder. Aidan is always on call to help rescue people as a member of the Colorado Wildland Firefighters, and the Search and Rescue team, which puts him into dangerous situations often. Aidan’s family owns the town resort, which is struggling to make a large payment that will be due within a year. We get to meet his brothers, sister, sister in law, mother, which gives us a look into the future of this series.

Aidan has never gotten over Lily, and has given up trying to find her. To his surprise, he finds out accidently that Lily is returning home, and within a short time, he sees her arriving. As will happen a few times, Aidan ends up being in the right place at the right time to help Lily out of a precarious spot, and the two of them realize they still have strong feelings for each other.

Aidan makes it known; he wants Lily back, though he doesn’t understand why she left without talking to him. Lily has memories of those tragic events that she can’t get past. Her twin sister, who was always in friendly competition with her, accidently slipped on the mountains to her death. At the funeral, her father had a heart attack and died. Blaming herself, she ran away to escape the memories, and now that those same mountains are so close, she tries to come to terms with her guilt. It is Aidan and others, who will try to convince that it wasn’t her fault, as her sister loved the competition and it was an accident.

Aidan and Lily slowly rekindle their romance, which is hot and steamy. We watch Lily struggle with her feelings for Aidan becoming stronger, but her fears escalate with his firefighting/search rescue situations, that he will break her heart again. Will Lily be able to get past the guilt she feels? Can she accept her love for Aidan despite the danger Aidan always seems to be in?

Second Chance Summer is a sweet, romantic and wonderful story, that is a little heartbreaking, as we feel Lily’s pain. I loved Aidan and Lily together, and Shalvis has once again created a fabulous group of secondary characters that were totally delightful. I cannot wait for the next book. Jill Shalvis has another winner with the Cedar Ridge series. Do not miss reading Second Chance Summer, which promises to be a wonderful series.

The Art of Sinning (Sinful Suitors #1) by Sabrina Jeffries-Review and Pre Order Campaign

THE ART OF SINNING (Sinful Suitors #1) by Sabrina Jeffries-Review and  PreOrder Campaign

The Art of Sinning

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / The Book Depository

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 21, 2015

American artist Jeremy Keane refuses to return home and take over his father’s business. He’d much rather sample bevvies of beauties abroad, in search of a model for the provocative masterpiece he’s driven to paint. When he meets Lady Yvette Barlow at a London wedding, he realizes she’s perfect for his work—and determines to capture the young heiress’s defiant spirit and breathtaking sensuality on canvas.

No stranger to scandal, Yvette agrees to be Keane’s subject—in exchange for his help gaining entry to the city’s brothels he knows intimately, so she can track a missing woman and solve a family mystery. But when their practical partnership leads to lessons in the art of sinning, can they find a bold and lasting love?

••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE ART OF SINNING is the first installment in Sabrina Jeffries Sinful Suitors historical romance series-a spin off from her ‘The Duke’s Men series’. This is American artist Jeremy Keane, and Lady Yvette Barlow’s storyline. You do not have to have read The Duke’s Men series to understand the premise. Jeremy Keane was first introduced to the reader in Sabrina’s How The Scoundrel Seduces and any important information from the previous series is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives THE ART OF SINNING follows Jeremy Keane, in London, as he searches for his latest muse finding the perfect model in attendance at Dominick Manton (If The Viscount Falls –The Duke’s Men #4) and Lady Jane’s wedding. Yvette Barlow is a statuesque English Lady whose beauty beckons Jeremy like a moth to a flame. But convincing Yvette and her brother that his request is anything but a ruse will take some work especially when Jeremy has a reputation as a rogue and a painter of ‘women of ill repute.’ When Yvette makes Jeremy a counter offer in the hopes that he will assist in locating someone close, Jeremy considers rethinking his deal when he is forced to take Yvette on a journey to the seedy part of town.

Jeremy has a secret, one that he holds close to his heart, and in this, Jeremy refuses to let himself fall in love. As his relationship with Yvette builds, so too does his need to run, but he is determined to complete his latest work, in the hopes of securing a position at a prestigious London gallery. When the truth is finally revealed, Jeremy comes to the realization that perhaps everything was not as it had appeared to be.

The relationship between Yvette and Jeremy is one of immediate attraction but Jeremy continues to hold himself back in the hopes of keeping secret his past sins, and his shame and grief; in this he occasionally presents as cold and uncaring. As Yvette wars with her desires, her position in society is threatened if the truth about what it is she and Jeremy have planned were ever to come to light. Yvette is a strong, historical heroine who knows what she wants, and she is determined to get the answers even if it means putting her reputation in jeopardy. Like most historical romances, the $ex scenes are tempered with historical descriptions and prose. Lady Yvette is a virgin, as per her standing in life, and Jeremy must take Yvette under his wing to explore the passion of a sexual relationship.

Several characters from Sabrina’s THE DUKE’S MEN series cross over for cohesion and familiarity including Tristan Bonnaud, and Jeremy’s cousin Zoe Keane (How The Scoundrel Seduces-The Duke’s Men #3), as well as the cameo appearance of Dom and Lady Jane. We are also introduced to Yvette’s long suffering brother Earl Edwin Blakeborough, and her best friend Clarissa and brother Warren Knightford whose own desire for Yvette has gone unanswered. By way of mention, Yvette and Edwin’s brother Samuel plays an active role through previous misdeeds and dealings. Jeremy’s American mother and sister Amanda are determined to bring Jeremy back home but Amanda may have found a reason to stay in England. As with Sabrina’s The Duke’s Men series and its’ Manton Investigations, there is perhaps another Club association in the making within the Sinful Suitors series.

THE ART OF SINNING is a wonderful introduction to Sabrina Jeffries’s new Sinful Suitors historical romance series. There are moments of heartbreak and sorrow; pleasure and passion; romance and love. Jeremy believes he is damaged and broken, while Yvette struggles with a past mistake finding it difficult to accept the attention of any man. The characters are engaging, animated and sometimes amusing; the premise seductive and intriguing. There is a happily ever after with the potential for another love relationship building within the family.

Now she’s working for the FBI, seeking salvation while searching for and finding the missing. Her partner, Zack Armstrong, is a werewolf with a grievance of his own.

The former Black Ops sniper who once carried out a string of questionable assignments is atoning for his past. Ironically, Zack’s just discovered an important piece of his past has been magically wiped from his memory—an affair with Emma. It doesn’t matter she used the spell to save his life, that’s something he’ll never know. With trust eroded and love overshadowed by betrayal the only thing holding them together is the job.

When the son of multi-billionaire Roger Maitlan is kidnapped and his babysitter murdered in cold blood, Emma and Zack travel to New York to work the case. What they find is a conspiracy born of a twisted mind and fueled by greed. The clock is ticking. Will Zack and Emma be able to find the missing boy and their way back to one another?

Review:
Forsaken by S.J. Harper is book 2.5 of their Fallen Siren series. This is a novella that picks up right after the second book ended. In Forsaken, S.J. Harper continues the trend of exciting, tense filled stories that are filled with pulse-pounding action. Emma and Zack continue to work together to solve major crimes, despite their intense feelings for each other. Zack cannot remember his relationship with Emma, but knows deep down that something did happen, and he continues to feel the chemistry between them. Emma cares strongly for Zack, but she knows showing those feelings could be the death of him.   They make such a great couple, even if they fight it. He is a werewolf and she is a Fallen Siren, and together they are wonderful team.

In Forsaken, a child is kidnapped and Zack with Emma’s help must find the boy; the son of Zack’s billionaire friend, before he is killed. With a race against the clock, the suspense multiplies after discovering the motive of revenge and greed that insures the boy will not be saved by just money. There are betrayals, and twists that make story even more intense as we head to the finish.

During all of this, the romance between Zack and Emma continues to get hotter and hotter.   Will Emma allow herself to continue this romance with Zack, putting him in danger? Will Zack discover the truth why he can’t remember what he knows has happened?

Jeanne C. Stein and Samantha Sommersby make up the writing team of S.J. Harper, and they do a fabulous job of creating such a wonderful series. Each book is filled with excitement, suspense, intrigue, sexy romance and a wonderful couple.   Fallen Siren is a great series that I suggest you read, and please start with the first book.

Seal’s Code (Bad Boys of Team 3) by Sharon Hamilton-a review

SEAL’s CODE (Seal Brotherhood #10/Bad Boys of Team Three #3) by Sharon Hamilton

Seal's Code

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 30, 2015

Danny Begay has tried to drive out the voices of his ancestors for most of his young life, but the life springing from his Navajo roots will not die. Summoned back to visit his dying grandfather, one of the original Navajo Code Talkers. Ashamed he has disappointed his hero grandfather he buries himself one more time in the arms of a stranger before he goes back to his home in Northern California.

Luci Tohe teaches at the reservation school, safeguarding the health of her ailing mother and little sister’s future, at the temporary expense of her own. She doesn’t expect the young Dine warrior she meets to be anything but a distraction from her loneliness. She knows she will dream about their hot encounter for years.

Danny cleans his life up, joins the Navy and becomes a SEAL, where he becomes the man he knew he was destined to become. Between deployments, he goes back visit the girl he cannot get out of his mind. The reservation has become a dangerous place for Luci’s family and soon Danny is embroiled in not only saving Luci, but her whole family as well.

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: SEAL’s CODE is the tenth installment in Sharon Hamilton’s SEAL BROTHERHOOD/ The Bad Boys of SEAL Team 3 adult, contemporary, military romance series. This is new SEAL recruit and Native American Danny Begay, and Aboriginal grade school teacher Luci Tohe’s storyline. SEAL’S CODE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Luci and Danny) SEAL’s CODE follows the building relationship between Luci and Danny, and Danny’s entry into the military. Danny and Luci are members of the Navajo Native American community and with it comes all of the hardships and stereotyping of living on the reservations. Danny left the community to strike out on his own, but the death of his beloved grandfather, a Navajo Code Talker during the second World War, finds our hero longing for a place to belong.

The relationship between Luci and Danny begins as a one night stand the day before Danny enlists. Fast forward several months, where Danny returns a Navy SEAL, and discovers that problems have escalated upon the Reserve: the number of missing girls has escalated and with it comes the possibility of a sex slave ring right under their nose.

SEAL’s CODE is a slow building storyline that focuses on the Navajo and Native American plight of segregation, discrimination, drugs, alcohol, poverty and abuse, but with it also comes the ghosts of the People long gone in the hopes of one day becoming a proud community as they were in the past. There are moments where the voices of those who have passed direct the characters towards the future but the overriding theme of Aboriginal problems pervaded most of the storyline such that the good guys were few are far between. There is a slight paranormal aspect to the storyline as Danny and Luci, as well as a few supporting characters listen to, and talk with those that have departed this world.

I did have a few issues with this storyline as it pertained to Danny’s quick jump from civilian life into a full fledged Navy SEAL, and the SEALs involvement in the take down of the criminal element permeating the Native community; there is also the issue of some stereotyping as it pertained to the Native community and all of its’ problems. With reference to the relationship between Luci and Danny, I had difficulty connecting with the love and overwhelming need between our couple-for most of the storyline Danny and Luci are separated by war, and for months at a time. It is not until Danny returns to the Reservation (one year later), to help with the investigation into the missing girls, does Danny and Luci’s love affair begin to flourish.

SEAL’S CODE is an ensemble storyline with a number of the previous SEAL Team 3 members playing a secondary or supporting role. We are introduced to Danny’s extended family; Luci’ s long suffering mother, and Luci’s younger sister. The requisite evil has many faces.

excerpt

“Tonight is about us, no one else, and that’s the way I want it to stay. No more interruptions,” Derek said.
I took a deep breath and reached for my wine. I wasn’t going to let my brain jump to conclusions. This weekend was about us. Not Taylor. Not Reed. “I agree.”
He leaned into the table, his hand moving higher up my leg. “Kiss me.”
We weren’t in a back booth, and this restaurant wasn’t nearly as private as The Hole. There were more servers, a more open floor plan, many other tables close by. What he was asking for was much more than the peck I had given him before I’d gone to the bathroom. “Those fingers,” I said, placing my hand on top of them, “aren’t planning on going any higher, are they?”He licked his bottom lip, teasing me with just the swipe of his tongue and the whiskers that surrounded it. “They weren’t, no. But now that I know it’s on your mind, I’m not sure I’ll be able to stop them.”

His Millionaire Maid by Coleen Kwan – a Review

His Millionaire Maid by Coleen Kwan – a Review

His Millionaire MaidAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
His new hire has a secret…

As far as Nina Beaumont is concerned, money ruins everything. Leave it to her wealthy family to screw up her professional life and her personal life. When she crashes and her car sinks, sending her identification and all her belongings spiraling into the watery abyss, Nina sees her chance to escape.

And stumbles into a job with the hottest man she’s ever met…as his maid.

Between running an inn, caring for his grandmother, and trying to keep the dirty-dealing Beaumont Corporation from stealing his land, Joe Farina’s plate is full. He doesn’t have time for romantic entanglements-especially not with the suspiciously bad maid he just hired, no matter how much he needs her…both in and out of his bed.

Screwing with her life is one thing, but Nina’s not about to let her family screw with Joe. That is, if she doesn’t lose him when he finds out who she really is.

Review:

His Millionaire Maid by Coleen Kwan is a fun sweet romance.

Joe Farina’s life is run at 100 miles an hour. He’s the dependable go-to guy for seemingly everyone in town. Not only does he not have time for romance, he is strongly opposed to it. His mantra is …. Never get entangled with the staff, it made for an uncomfortable workplace. So why is it that he is instantly intrigued with the new maid?

Nina Beaumont walks into Joe’s B&B looking for directions and instead finds a hot man standing there, and she is instantly attracted. Nina wants to show her family, that she can survive without the Beaumont millions. Being hired as the new maid for the inn, seems like the ideal solution. But she’s not sure about the new boss.

It’s not love at first sight between the two characters, I don’t think they even like each other at first, but there is definite interest. These two clash so many times, you wonder if they will ever get together. And the secret that Nina holds close to her chest, will it break the couple apart, once Joe finds out who his maid really is?

It was a fun read, and very well written. The characters were very likeable.  The incidents they get themselves into, did make me chuckle. I had a fun afternoon reading Nina and Joe’s story.
