Surrounded by the lightAmazon / Barnes & Noble

Description:
It has been three years since Branith has been home and a few of the Princes from the Free Lands have come with him. Things have changed and they are all quick to note the obvious ones. The young girls he remembered as cute little toddlers and scamps are developing curves, and he is suddenly feeling very protective. Where did that come from?

As Elves gather for the celebration, Daroth finds his Kingdom is being invaded by what seems like every high-ranking Elven family in the Empire. There are toddlers everywhere! He would ask where they all came from, but their ages point at only one possible answer: their conceptions can be traced back to the time when Gabriel and Eden conjured their spell in the High Elven Kingdom. It reminds him of when their children were toddlers, and with that in mind, he is ready to enjoy the party.

Can it be that simple?

Review:

Surrounded by the Light by M.A. Abraham is another one of her wonderful novellas from her Elven Chronicles, which she always brings us each year near the holidays. It is that time of year again in Daroth’s Kingdom when all the families gather to celebrate. Only this time, it seems all the other Kings and their families don’t want to miss this either, and they all start arriving.

Branith, who is Marious’ brother, has been away for three years, and he comes home with others from the free lands to a wild and fun filled celebration that will find him his lifemate. But not too much other then who she is was mentioned. I am sure Abraham has more in store for us with this revelation.

The crux of the story in the middle of the celebration will alert all that danger is on the horizon once again. This is a novella and too hard to write a longer review, as saying too much would be spoilers. I will say that the children were up to their old tricks, which was cute; we also got to see the Dragon King and Queen, who visited with serious warnings, not to mention S’Larea and her visions of danger.

Once again M.A. Abraham gives us a fast, fun filled read to celebrate the holidays with our Elves.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 3, 2015

Daniel Banks is a man of the cloth whose vocation is the last comfort he has left–and even his churchman’s collar is beginning to feel like a noose. In an attempt to start his life over, Daniel accepts the post of vicar in Haddondale, a position supported by the Earl of Haddonfield. There Daniel meets Lady Kirsten Haddonfield, to whom life has also dealt multiple unkind blows. Daniel’s interest is piqued by Kirsten’s unsentimental attitude toward her misfortunes, and by the kind-heartedness the lady keeps well hidden. Kirsten is much taken with Mr. Banks and his genuine compassion for others, despite his own troubles. When Providence intervenes, and Daniel and Kirsten can become engaged, their happiness seems complete…. though every garden has at least one nasty, sly, determined serpent.

REVIEW:

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

I am really beginning to think there isn’t anything Grace will write that I won’t gush over. I adore her historical romance style, her true knowledge of the era she sets her novels in, the language used and the descriptions where I really feel like I have been transported in time.

Daniel’s True Desire is Grace Burrowes second book in her True Gentlemen series and I must admit I was interested in how this one would turn out. This book tells the story of Lady Kirsten Haddonfield (Nicholas’s spitfire of a sister) and Daniel Banks the new vicar of the town.

After many broken engagements, Kirsten has somewhat resolved herself to living life as a spinster. When a cold blustery morning introduces her to the new town vicar, she must admit she is somewhat smitten. Daniel is taken a back by Kirsten’s forwardness and quite frankly finds her rather refreshing .. if not beautiful. Feeling completely drawn to one another it’s only a matter of time when something more than friendship comes to surface. Only one problem … our handsome vicar is already married.

Daniel has a horrible wife, and one he is estranged from. After learning of her true disposition in a previous book (The Lonely Lords book David), he agrees to live apart from her. He also is nursing a broken heart where his nephew/son (read the book and you’ll understand how he is both) is concerned. Being a man of the cloth he certainly cannot break his marriage vows .. so what is he to do about his feelings towards Kirsten?

Kirsten knows he is hands off, and surely she can work with him on a major project without worry. SURELY??? What would happen however, if Daniel was no longer married?? What would happen if his wife perished?? What would happen if it was all an evil plan???

I had a bit of reservation where this novel was concerned. A man of the cloth?? HMMMM … how do you get passion and love from that? Well Daniel certainly is the right man for that task and Grace Burrowes sure did deliver. I adored Kirsten and her practical ways. If any obstacle was in her path, she just jumped right over it and/or found a way to work with it. These two were a perfect match, and their ease of friendship flourished long before their love did which just adds to the believability.

Another FANTASTIC read and I am lucky to already have a copy of the next book in this series. I will be eagerly diving in soon!

HAPPY READING!

“You Might Be A True Gentleman or Gentlewoman If…” by Grace Burrowes

How do you know if your Sig-O is a true gentleman/lady? Ask yourself a few questions…

First, do his or her best moves, smoothest lines, and cleverest flirtations only come out in public, or are the housework sessions equally likely to produce the verbal roses and melting glances from across the laundry pile?

The hallmark of a player is that their repertoire is best displayed when there’s an audience to play to. The true gentleman or lady isn’t playing, so the good stuff can come your way any old day or night of the week.

Second, does he or she deliver the fun and flirtation in you statements (“You look good in anything… and in nothing at all.”) Do they keep to the I-statements when the topic is difficult? (“I can come off irritated any time we talk about money because I’m afraid I’m not pulling my share of the load. I don’t mean to sound that way, and I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings.”)

The guy or gal who lapses into the you-always, and you-never accusations in the middle of a difficult conversation hasn’t learned to fight fair. Time to whip out a few remedial lessons from the relationship Code Duello, or find another waltzing partner.

Third, does he or she have the touch? Always respectful in public-even when respectfully affectionate-always cool with your respectful affections too?

The ladies and gents who treasure us the most know better than to cross that line, and we treasure them right back for their gallant attentions.

Fourth, do they listen to us? We’ve all had the experience of being on a date or in a discussion, and the person we’re with has checked out. They’re eying the door, the clock, their cool new app, or if there’s a mirror on hand (store window, shiny plate, mirror app), themselves. Um… that would be a no.

Fifth, are they honorable? Do they give you the sense that at all times, the person you’re with will be guided by kindness and honesty, even when neither is convenient for them? If that’s the consistent vibe-truth and compassion as their defining values-you are in the company of a true lady or a true gentleman.

Here’s the best part: True ladies and true gentlemen tend to be discerning people, for all they are also gracious, kind, honest, and excellent company. If you’ve found a true lady or gentleman for your very own, and they reciprocate your regard, chances are they have found a true lady or gentleman in you too!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 24, 2015

Once the brains behind a car-boosting ring, Nic Medina has spent the last three years playing it straight. Now drag racers flock to his L.A. auto shop, Hotwired, for a shot at going head-to-head with the man himself. But when a crooked cop gives Nic a treacherous ultimatum—steal ten high-end cars or watch his nephew disappear into the system—he makes the only choice he can, one that puts the life he’s worked so hard for at risk. No sooner does Nic agree than he spots some nasty competition—and a gorgeous bystander in harm’s way.

A small-town girl with Hollywood dreams, Jordan Bass never expected to be swept up in a real-life drama. But that’s exactly what happens when she witnesses a violent crime. And when a smoldering stranger takes the wheel and practically kidnaps her in a desperate bid to keep her safe, she’s not sure whether to scream . . . or kiss him. Nic’s bad news—but the real bad guys aren’t above silencing a witness. On a collision course with danger, Jordan finds herself falling for the man whose street smarts are keeping her alive . . . and whose touch puts her in high gear.

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: ACCELERATE is the first installment in Tracy Wolff’s contemporary, adult Hotwired erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women of Hotwired Auto Shop. This is shop owner/drag racer Nic Medina, and college student Jordan Bass’s storyline.

Told from dual first person points of view (Jordan and Nic) ACCELERATE finds our heroine having the week from hell. Her car was demolished, so she purchased a new automobile at the police auctions a few days earlier, only to walk in on someone trying to hotwire her new car. Enter Nic Medina, the sexy drag car racer as he attempts to steal her newest possession. But when Nic realizes that Jordan recognizes who he is, our hero ‘kidnaps’ Jordan setting off a string bad memories, PTSD, and horrific emotions in a woman he barely knows. Nic will soon recognize Jordan’s emotions as something from her past but it is too late when both Nic and Jordan find themselves caught between a dirty cop and doing what is right.

Twenty eight year old Nic Medina is a troubled soul who had to grow up too fast following the death of his mother ten years earlier. Past decisions had resulted in time in prison, and his younger siblings destroyed by the foster care system, leaving Nic to wallow in grief and continuing guilt. When his past comes back to haunt him in the form of blackmail by a crooked cop, Nic’s only choice is to do what is asked otherwise lose his family to the foster care system-once again. Nic has to steal Jordan’s car and with it will come more threats and danger to the lives of everyone he loves.

The relationship between Nic and Jordan is one of immediate attraction but Nic has a job to do in order to save his sister and her son. Jordan will be caught in the fall out of Nic’s past, and with it will come threats against her life, and the possibility of losing the man with whom she is falling in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative; a profession of love is expressed within a couple of day. Jordan’s horrific past is something that both Jordan and Nic must work through to bring their relationship to a more personal level.

We are introduced to Nic’s fellow employees at Hotwired-Payton, Gabe, Sean, Ryan and Jace, as well as his drug-addicted brother Joe, their sister Lena, and his nephew Benji. Jordan’s support team represent by her best friend Vi, and her boss Doreen. The requisite evil comes in several forms including a crooked cop who is gunning to destroy Nic Medina’s life.

The world building focuses on the Hotwired Auto shop-the people, the cars and the cops who want something from Nic and his friends. We learn about Nic, and Jordan’s pasts-both mired in betrayal, heartbreak, police negligence and abuse. In Nic’s case several bad decision found our hero imprisoned for close to seven years, while Jordan’s life was destroyed by the actions of college boys and the power of too much money. The storyline ends on a bit of a cliffhanger so be forewarned.

I did have one concern and for those ‘cover lovers’ who like their storyline covers to match the hero/heroine inside, Nic has dreads-long, beautiful dreads-and yet, the cover shows a man with short, cropped hair-just saying !!! Someone should have ‘connected the dots’ from the cover to the character outline.

ACCELERATE is a fast paced storyline with mystery, suspense, action and romance. The premise is entertaining; the characters are intelligent and colorful; the happily ever after is not unexpected but there is more trouble on the horizon for the family and friends at Hotwired Auto.

PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD (Elder Races Novella 8.6) by Thea Harrison

About the book: Release Date November 17, 2015

After making a diplomatic pact with humankind and the other leaders of the Elder Races, Pia Cuelebre, mate to Dragos Cuelebre, Lord of the Wyr, reluctantly heads to Hollywood to spend a week with the Light Fae Queen, Tatiana, before the busy Masque season hits New York in December.

Dragos has never let the lack of an invitation stop him from doing anything he wanted. Unwilling to let his mate make the trip without him, he travels to southern California in secret to be with her.

But when an ancient enemy launches a shattering assault against the Light Fae, Dragos and Pia must intercede. The destruction threatens to spread and strike a mortal blow against all of the magically gifted, both human and Elder Race alike.

Working with the Light Fae to neutralize the danger, Dragos and Pia find their deepest vulnerabilities challenged and their most closely held secrets threatened with exposure.

Sandy’s Review

PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD is the November 2015 novella in Thea Harrison’s adult, ELDER RACES paranormal, romance series. This is the continuing story of Dragos Cuelebre, Lord of the Wyr, and his mate Pia Cuelebre. PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD is the second installment in Thea’s three story novella series focusing on the Cuelebre family-Dragos, Pia and Liam. I would recommend reading this particular novella series in order for cohesion and history, although some background about the original series is beneficial for overall enjoyment.

Told from dual third person perspective (Dragos and Pia) PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD follows Pia as she must endure a week long diplomatic visit with the Queen of the Light Fae, Tatiana. Not wanting to leave his mate vulnerable, Dragos heads to California, to keep an eye out for his beautiful mate. But all does not go according to plan, when Dragos finds himself the victim of an assault and the resulting side affects find our ancient leader losing a little bit of himself to the dark side. What ensues are Pia’s attempts to save her husband, while the Light Fae struggle with the attack against their own kind.

PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD is an erotic romance storyline that focuses on family, relationships, and the highly, sexual nature of Dragos and Pia’s love. Dragos is the Lord of the Wyr, and with it comes great responsibility but none more so than the protection of his family. The premise is entertaining with a little bit of mystery and suspense; the characters are familiar, colorful and animated; the romance is provocative and steamy. PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD reveals a little bit about the future; what’s in store for the Cuelebre family and the Lord of the Wyre will have any parent cringing in anticipation.

Thea Harrison continues to tease our imagination with her amazing series of the ELDER RACES. These quick novella storylines add some color, some background and a glimpse into the lives of the ruling supernatural families.

Barb’s Review

Pia Does Hollywood by Thea Harrison is the 2nd novella in her 3 book novella arc revolving around Dragos, Pia and Liam. Most times when I read novellas they are nice short reads that just tempt your taste buds until the next novel comes out. But Thea Harrison never fails to give us a fun and exciting storyline in her novellas, which I always devour. Needless to say, I love this series; love all the Elder Races and most of all, I love love Dragos and Pia together. Spending time with the Cuelebre’s is always so much fun.

Pia Does Hollywood was a fantastic, exciting, sexy and fun story that left me wanting more, more more. Ok, I guess I need to calm down and give you brief synopsis of this story. 🙂 Since this is a dual review, there may be some redundancy, and Sandy’s review gives most of the details. I will try to give my thoughts on this story.

Whenever Pia has to travel, Dragos will always sneak a way to keep an eye on his mate. When Pia arrives for her diplomatic visit to Tatiana’s, Queen of the Light Fae, territory, she and those with her sense that something is different. The security is ultra tight, but they brush it off as the Light Fae are being very careful to make sure nothing happens to Lord Cuelebre’s mate.

Dragos, who is already in California, talks telepathically to Pia and her group to ensure all is well. Keeping his promise to stay away for the week, Dragos goes shopping for a gift for Pia. He discovers that something is amiss, and in doing so, walks into a horror scene that will put his own life in danger.

What follows is an exciting, horrific adventure with Pia, Eva, Aryal and Quentin trying desperately to find a way to save Dragos, and to help Tatiana in stopping the destruction that threatens to destroy her demesne.  In between all of this, it was wonderful to watch Pia’s dreams, as she discovers more about the new addition to the family.

Pia Does Hollywood was an exciting, action packed story, as well as very steamy; but we have come to expect that from Dragos and Pia. This was such a fun story, probably the best novella in this series. I totally loved every moment. I look forward to Shadows End, the next Elder Races novel, as well as the 3rd arc of this novella (Liam Takes Manhattan) trilogy coming in December. Thank you, Thea Harrison for this fantastic story, and please please never end this series.

His Witch to Keep by Zoe Forward – a Review

His Witch to Keep by Zoe Forward – a Review

His Witch to KeepAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
Wanting her was one thing. Keeping her was another…

Serenity Danssaert was already in way over her head. Not even her MI6 training or her powers as one of the seven Pleiades witches is going to save her sister. Then Alexi Jovec shows up. A secret operative working for unknown forces, he’s impossibly sexy and dangerous…and the guy who bailed on Serenity after a red-hot, racy night.

So bonding to him as her destined—the One—is so very wrong.

While Alexi’s need to own Serenity—body, soul, and beyond—is nearly unbearable, it’s also forbidden. He’s the last man who could ever be her destined. Besides, Hades’s right-hand man cannot bond with a chosen Pleiades witch. He may be the one man who can protect her, but she can never be his to keep.

Review:

His Witch to Keep by Zoe Forward is the 2nd book in her Keeper of the Veil series. I enjoyed the first book in this series, and couldn’t wait to read this one. I am happy to say that Zoe Forward gives us another fun, sexy and exciting book in His Witch to Keep. Though the theme resolves around the seven Pleiades witches, it reads very well as a standalone, but I do suggest you read the first book in this series.

Serenity Danssaert is our heroine in this book, and she is the toughest of the seven witches. Serenity has M16 training, and works undercover on some missions, not to mention has her own witch powers. Alexi Jovec seems to always be there to protect Serenity when she is in a bad spot, and the chemistry between them is hot as hell. Funny, since he works for Hades. 🙂 Alexi also has his own powers, as he works for a god. Alexi and Serenity cannot resist each other, but both know any kind of long term relationship is forbidden.

Serenity’s sister is kidnapped, and she is forced to help those who have her sister with certain jobs. It is during these jobs, that Alexi comes to her rescue, and at the same time they must find out who is trying to kill Serenity.

Rather than give too much away, I will just say that this was an exciting story that was a fun read. I really enjoyed this book, and loved Serenity and Alexi together; their sex scenes were sizzling. I also enjoyed seeing the other witches together, as they try to help Serenity. So many more stories we can look forward to. Zoe Forward does an excellent job in keeping us on the edge of our seat with many twists, not to mention worrying about our couple, and if they would find a way to stay together. His Witch to Keep was a fast and fun read, which I suggest you don’t miss.

Hope, Love and Second Chances Continue in the heart of Cajun Country.

••••••••••

Review:

Jewell begins with Dr. Jewell Duet and her beloved grandmother, Mimi, overseeing an estate sale. Unfortunately, it seems it’s more of a garage sale and Jewell knows her commission won’t be much. However, her next job is for Elli Bienvenu, (whom we met in the first book of this series) and she’s hoping that will give her an infusion of much needed money. Her Mimi has advanced dementia, but that’s not even the worst of it. Jewell has been accused of a crime and it will take everything she’s got, financially and emotionally, to try and get through it AND see to it that her beloved grandmother is taken care of in case she actually goes to jail for said crime.

Jewell’s Mimi raised her. Her birth mother hasn’t participated since Jewell was a toddler and Mimi is all Jewell has ever had. As Mimi has aged, she has started talking about things that Jewell’s never heard her talk about before and she worries that her grandmother is sinking further into her own private world. When Jewell and Mimi finally make it to Elli’s, things go kind of wonky at the very beginning. Mimi ends up in the house where Beau and Ben (Elli’s husband) are watching a Saints football game and joins them, making herself right at home. Jewell is mortified, but the two men tell her it’s okay. Until Mimi wants a footstool and tells them where one is…….in a secret hideaway that no one knew was there. Beau is immediately suspicious, deservedly so. Once he checks out Jewell’s past, he tell Elli and Ben that she’s been charged with a crime and is awaiting trial and that Elli needs to send both of them packing. Of course, Elli won’t hear of it. She likes Jewell and is hell bent that she be the one to catalog and sell the antiques there at the plantation. Beau makes it his personal mission to ensure that his family is not taken advantage of and spends a lot of time with Jewell and her grandmother as Jewell gets to work. Even though they are both attracted to each other, each, in their own way, tries to avoid what could only end in heartache and hurt feelings for them. Fate seems to have a different plan…………….

What follows has more twists and turns and revelations that you could ever imagine. Things, on both sides, are not as everyone thought and once they starts piecing together the parts of this wonderful and amazing puzzle, everyone’s life is changed forever.

OH MY SWEET JESUS, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! I loved Elli, and couldn’t imagine DeSalvo upping the ante, but I was wrong. Jewell is a wonderfully written tale that will keep you guessing until almost the very end. I’m not easily surprised when the “big reveal” happens, but, I was in this one. There are actually a few reveals in Jewell, neither of which I saw coming. Tina DeSalvo does a masterful job of letting us get to know her characters and you feel as though you know everyone of them personally. If for no other reason, Tante Izzy, the Bienvenu family matriarch is reason enough to read these novels. However, there are LOTS of other reasons to read Tina DeSalvo. It is so refreshing to read an author who doesn’t fill their pages with wasted words of over describing and repeating things over and over. Her world building is amazing and her characters are so relatable that you are immediately drawn in. Jewell is ultimately a tale of learning to trust in what will be and to let people in who are willing to help. There are some heart wrenching scenes that had me tearing up. There is also humor and a beautifully developed romance. If you’ve not read Elli or Jewell by Tina DeSalvo, you are missing out on two awesome stories. I can’t wait for the next installment!!! Well done, Tina DeSalvo!! Very, very, very well done!!!

A Knight for Kallen

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 4, 2015

Kallen de Mangeron grew up in a convent, her noble family never knowing of her birth. When a new Mother Superior informs them of her existence, they send trusted knight Griffith Sommersby to escort her home.

Griffith’s heart broke when he lost his wife and infant son during childbirth, and he’s kept his feelings locked away from the world—until he meets Kallen. He soon learns her dark secret—that she sees auras around people—which allows her insight into their actions and personalities.

Now Quentin, bastard brother to the king, decides to harness Kallen’s gift in a plot to win the throne. Will Quentin successfully use a kidnapped Kallen as his political pawn, or will Griffith be able to stop him before Kallen changes the course of England’s history?

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: A Knight for Kallen is an old world romance story set in the south of England, 1293. It’s difficult to give you the set-up without retelling too much of this wonderful story. Kallen is the child of rape, at the hands of one Quentin, Earl of Nowland (and bastard son of the King, Edward ‘Longshanks’). She was born at a convent in northern England, the abbess was the sister of her grandfather who took her mother there to hide her ruin at Quentin’s hands. These men were not the best, neither particularly honorable. The girl’s (Bevia) mother was told she died in a riding accident while traveling with her father. She was raised by Savina, a sister at the convent who loved her and her mother very much. Her mother, Bevia, never recovered her mind from the rape.

It’s a very complicated beginning, that is very well written with good dialogue that shows you the type of people.

The main story begins when the old abbess and her brother, Renton, die. The good sister writes to Crispin, Reston’s son and now the Lord of Mangeron. He’s nothing like his father, the estate is prospering under his fairer hand and he’s delighted to learn he has a niece. His wife is about to give birth and he can’t leave her so he sends his wife’s brother and his good friend, Lord Griffith Sommersby to bring Kallen back to her true family.

What follows is a lovely story of a wondrous young lady finding herself, and a magnificent young man healing from losing a wife and child a few years earlier. The story of their trip back through England to her true family and the dangers of being related to Quentin is an adventurous one. The writing is well done, the characters are well developed and you’ll fall in love with many of them.

Author Lauren Linwood has created an inspiring story, filled with love, danger, and the wonders of the spiritual. Be prepared with some tissues, a few snacks and, of course, your favorite beverage. Dive into this delightful story, just right for these chillier nights!
