REVIEW: PASSION IGNITES is the seventh full length installment in Donna Grant’s adult DARK KINGS fantasy/paranormal romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. This is ‘Claret’ dragon king Thorn, and American masseuse Lexi. PASSION IGNITES can be read as a stand alone but for cohesion and backstory I recommend reading the series in order especially the latter books as there is an on-going build up towards war.

Told from several third person perspectives PASSION IGNITES focuses on the coming war between the Dark Kings, the Warriors, the Light Fae, and their mutual enemy the Dark Fae. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with Ulrik the Silver King and his uncle Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the existence of the supernatural species to the world, and with it comes the possible demise of the human population. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides-but Ulrik wants revenge against King Constantine of the Dragon Kings; Mikkel wants to become King of the Silvers, and the Dark Fae want to rule Scotland and the rest of the world.

Lexi is an American tourist in Scotland whose best friend Christine was murdered by the ‘red eyes’. The ‘red eyes’ are the Dark Fae, and Lexi has remained in Scotland to hunt the people responsible for Christine’s murder. But unbeknownst to Lexi, she is being stalked-not only by the ones she calls the ‘red eyes’ but also by two of the Dragon Kings-Thorn and Darius. Each evening Thorn and Darius patrol the streets of Edinburgh killing the very thing that is stalking Lexi-the Dark Fae. What ensues is a building relationship between Thorn and the American woman who would one day be his mate but Thorn isn’t about to expose Lexi to Constantine, or the memories of his past. Thorn will have Lexi’s memories erased sending her back to America and away from his heart.

PASSIONG IGNITES has a large ensemble cast of characters including many of the Warriors, Druids, Dragons Kings, and Light and Dark Fae, as well as the introduction of the Reapers. The Light Fae royal guardian Rhiannon (Rhi) continues to play a pivotal role throughout the series as she straddles the line between Dark and Light. If you are familiar with the series, Rhi was once in love with a Dark King who all but destroyed her heart and her soul. Donna Grant continues to leave a trail of ‘hints and clues’ as to Rhi’s former lover-a Dragon King whose relationship with Rhi is only known to a few. There is also the building relationship between Rhi and the Dark Fae male known as Balladyn-once a Light Fae who is now ensconced totally in the Dark. Balladyn has been in love with Rhi for thousands of years, and with it comes the ultimate betrayal when Rhi found herself tortured and imprisoned by the man hoping to turn Rhi to the Dark side. As the war begins to escalate the Dark Fae’s numbers increase exponentially, and with it the risk to the human population multiplies. The unsolved murders in Scotland have people on alert, but the Fae’s ability to seduce their prey, find the humans oblivious to their own demise.

Donna Grant’s DARK KINGS series is a flight into the fantastic; her characters are colorful, engaging, impassioned and intense. You will be seduced into the world of the Dragon Kings, the Fae and the mystical Warriors who have vowed to protect the world against the Dark and the Silver. And speaking of Silver, Ulrik’s personality continues to reveal a softer side to the once mighty Silver King-perhaps there is a chance of redemption for a man who lost everything to a human woman that sparked with wars between the supernatural races.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 17, 2015

There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I am coming for you…

My whole existence is based on taking what Death wants. Born to eliminate Fae guilty of unforgivable crimes, my reckless, wild nature makes me the perfect assassin to carry out Death’s bidding. I’ve seen more sinister and violent dealings than anyone could ever imagine. But it was the sight of her face that stopped me cold. I’ve never wanted a woman-never mind a human-so badly; never felt my heart, hardened by death, burn brighter and hotter until it burst into flames. She is everything I desire. The kind of woman that compels you to stake your claim on her, to let the world know that she’s yours. A Reaper saving her life will only attract danger, but I vow to protect her at all costs from the Fae that hunt her, and keep safe the woman who has claimed me, body and soul.

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: DARK ALPHA’S CLAIM is the first installment in Donna Grant’s REAPERS adult, paranormal/fantasy romance series. The REAPERS is a spin off from Donna’s DARK KINGS series which is a spin off from Donna’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. You do not have to have read any of the previous series to understand the premise but there is a slight cross over with the half-Fae/Warrior Phelan and his Druid wife from the Dark Warrior’s series; a mention of the Dragon Kings; and several connections to Rhi and her protector . This is Reaper Baylon, and half Fae Jordyn’s storyline.

Told from several third person perspectives DARK ALPHA’S CLAIM introduces the Reapers-a group of Dark and Light Fae, selected by Death, to do her bidding. The Reapers are not harbingers of death, but are tasked with destroying the Light and Dark Fae who have crossed a line from which there is no return. When a message from Death orders the termination of all half Fae humans, the Reapers set about in search of those targeted for death. But none of the Reapers are able to carry out the order, and soon discover that the order does not come the person in charge. What ensues is an instant lust to love relationship between Baylon and Jordyn when Baylon is unable to kill the woman with whom he was falling in love- a relationship forbidden by Death-no Reaper is allowed to enter into a relationship or fall in love.

The background of DARK ALPHA’S CLAIM and thusly the Reapers Series is similar to Donna’s Dark Kings series. In the case of the REAPERS, one of their own fell in love, and with it came the knowledge of the forbidden, and in doing so, lost the woman with whom he had wanted to spend eternity. And similarly to the Dark Kings, betrayal and vengeance are the focus of the series when someone long thought gone returns from the past to avenge the death of his mate and his own sentence to the beyond. And saying this, the conflict is all too familiar, as is the need for revenge.

DARK ALPHA’S CLAIM is a quick read; not quite a full-length storyline that gives the reader some of the background and history of the inception of the Reapers, and their connections to the Light and Dark Fae. The Dark Fae are growing in numbers, power, and a need for revenge; they have declared war and the Reapers, the Dark Kings, and the Light Fae have been targeted for extinction. Some of the events in DARK ALPHA’S CLAIM run parallel to the events in PASSION IGNITES (Dark Kings #7).

DARK ALPHA’S CLAIM is an entertaining read but one that felt all too familiar from the author.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 27, 2015

Fighting for redemption…

I’ve lived most of my life in darkness, beneath the shadows of secrets and addictions. The last thing I ever wanted to do was hurt the only girl I’d ever loved-the one who brought me into the light. In my entire life I’d made one promise-a promise I’d intended to keep. I’ve broken that promise and now I have to live with the fallout. Dixie Lark hates me, and I have to tell her that I love her. I also have to tell her a truth that might destroy us forever.

Can she love me even if she can’t forgive me?

Learning to move on…

Gavin Garrison broke his promise to my brother and he broke my heart in the process. I may never love anyone the way I’ve loved him, but at least I won’t spend my life wondering what if. We had our one night and he walked away. I’m finally beginning to move on when my brother’s wedding and a battle of the bands brings us back together.

Our band is getting a second chance, but I don’t know if I can give him one. How do you hand your heart back to the person who set it on fire once already?

••••••••••••

REVIEW: MISSING DIXIE is the third installment in Caisey Quinn’s new adult, contemporary NEON DREAMS romance series focusing on the members of the country band Leaving Amarillo. MISSING DIXIE is the continuing story of fiddler Dixie Lark, and the band’s drummer Gavin Garrison. Dixie and Gavin’s storyline began in book one- Leaving Amarillo. MISSING DIXIE should not be read as a stand alone as there is too much backstory and history revealed in the previous two installments.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Dixie and Gavin) MISSING DIXIE focuses on the rekindling of the relationship between Dixie and Gavin, but not before Gavin must face the demons from his past. At the end of LEAVING AMARILLO Gavin is about to head out on tour with Dixie’s brother Dallas but Gavin has second thoughts and finds himself trying to correct the sins from his past. MISSING DIXIE follows Gavin as he condemns himself to a life without the woman he loves in order to clean up and make amends for everything that went wrong. The reader is front and center as Gavin berates himself for the childhood that was out of his control, and the mother who is unable to get clean and sober.

MISSING DIXIE is a storyline of second chances for Gavin and Dixie, as well as Gavin as he must tell Dixie everything that happened the year she went away. Gavin’s past is mired in drug addiction, sex, alcohol abuse, and a need to escape into the abyss leaving Gavin broken and feeling unworthy of love and success. Gavin fears rejection from the only woman he has ever loved. There is plenty of drama, tension, self-hatred, back and forth, and a definite lack of communication especially as it pertains to Gavin’s past and his current situation. Gavin’s failure to communicate leaves too much to misinterpretation and misunderstanding. The secrets Gavin’s keeps close to his heart are destroying everything he has with the woman he loves. There is some definite reader anxiety as it pertains to Gavin’s inability to tell Dixie the truth. Dixie is willing to forgive and forget; she is a woman who loves her man-unconditionally.

MISSING DIXIE is an emotional and heartbreaking storyline about two people who have known one another for most of their lives. Gavin’s backstory is tragic; full of abuse, neglect, drug addiction and shame. Dixie and Dallas became Gavin’s family; his lifeline when everything began to spiral out of control but Gavin’s mistakes could find our hero losing all that he holds dear-a second chance with Dixie and the band finds Gavin at a crossroads when the past comes back with a vengeance. We will be introduced to a young boy-seven year old Liam-whose own life is eerily similar to the trauma of Gavin’s past but the resolution is technically flawed.

Caisey Quinn writes a passionate story of family and friends; moving forward and letting go; forgiveness and falling in love. The premise is a roller coaster of emotions, anxiety and stress; the characters are colorful, impassioned and heartbreaking; the happily ever after fast forwards the storyline several months to several years.

excerpt

When Dixie finishes, she takes her place across the altar and I can’t tear my stare from her. Her sapphire eyes shine like diamonds with the promise of tears.
I wish I could give you this.
Right as I’m about to look away, her gaze collides with mine. My heart swells in my chest. I have so much to say and no words to say it.
I’m sorry.
I’m trying.
I love you.
She doesn’t even flinch at the turmoil I know is probably apparent on my face. She just gives me a confident smile and a knowing look as if to say, One day.
One day that will be us. A future.
A forever.
I fucking hope so.
I just have no clue how we’ll ever manage to get there.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 17, 2015

Dixie Lark hasn’t had it easy. She lost her parents in an accident when she was young and grew up in a ramshackle house on a dirt road in Amarillo with her ailing grandparents and overprotective older brother. Thanks to her grandfather, Dixie learned to play a mean fiddle, inspired by the sounds of the greats—Johnny and June, Waylon, and Hank. Her grandfather’s fiddle changed Dixie’s life forever, giving her an outlet for the turmoil of her broken heart and inspiring a daring dream.

Ten years later, Dixie and her brother, Dallas, are creating the music they love and chasing fame with their hot band, Leaving Amarillo. But Dixie isn’t enjoying the ride. All she can think about is Gavin, the band’s tattooed, tortured drummer who she’s loved since they were kids. She knows he feels the connection between them, but he refuses see her as more than his best friend’s little sister.

Convinced that one night with Gavin will get him out of her system, Dixie devises a plan. She doesn’t know that her brother has forbidden Gavin from making a move on her-a promise he swore he’d always keep . . . a promise that once broken will unexpectedly change the future for Dixie, Gavin and the band.

REVIEW: LEAVING AMARILLO is the first installment in Caisey Quinn’s contemporary, new adult Neon Dreams romance series focusing on twenty year old musician Dixie Lark, her brother Dallas, and the man that she has loved for close to ten years Gavin Garrison. Dixie, Dallas and Gavin make up the band Leaving Amarillo.

Told from first person point of view (Dixie) LEAVING AMARILLO follows the Dixie, Dallas and Gavin as they wander the minefield of musical stardom. A chance entry into a five day music festival finds the trio on the cusp of making it big but Dixie begins to feel uneasy when their new manager makes a change to the direction of the band.

Meanwhile, Dixie’s relationship with Gavin takes a step towards something sexual when Dixie offers Gavin one night-no strings- knowing that there will never be any going back once the couple have crossed the line between friendship and sex. Gavin has loved Dixie since the day that they met but a warning from Dixie’s brother not to cross the proverbial line has found Gavin on the outside looking in. Gavin’s earlier years are heartbreaking and traumatic, and he has always had Dallas and Dixie at his back but changes in the band will find our hero losing everything he has always wanted when the band’s new manager pulls the members apart before they have a chance to make it big.

LEAVING AMARILLO is the introductory storyline that focuses on heartbreak and betrayal; anguish and regret; loving and letting go. Caisey Quinn writes an emotional tale that will merit a tear or two for a woman whose life is about to change when the man that she loves searches for his future in another direction. LEAVING AMARILLO is an entertaining and enjoyable storyline about two tortured souls whose lives are about to change.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 16, 2015

Dallas Lark is so close to achieving his dream of making it big in country music that he can taste it. Arriving in Nashville after signing with sexy, successful manager Mandy Lantram, his life goes from tragedy and turmoil to one lucky break after another—except it isn’t really luck because Dallas has sacrificed everything for his career, leaving behind his band, sister, best friend, and high school sweetheart, Robyn, in the pursuit of fame.

Robyn Breeland is a successful marketing coordinator and promotions specialist for a thriving liquor distributor out of Texas. She loves every aspect of her job: coming up with new ideas, traveling, hosting promotional parties and exclusive events—until it brings her face-to-face with the man who broke her heart, prompting her to erect a steel cage around it.

When their paths collide and they’re forced to work together, Dallas and Robyn realize that the old spark they thought they’d extinguished might still be a burning flame.

REVIEW: LOVING DALLAS is the second installment in Caisey Quinn’s new adult, contemporary Neon Dream romance series focusing on the members of the band Leaving Amarillo. This is lead singer and guitarist Dallas Lark, and marketing coordinator Robyn Breeland’s storyline. LOVING DALLAS can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Dallas and Robyn) LOVING DALLAS is a second chance storyline for two people torn apart by secrets and lies. Several years earlier Leaving Amarillo were about to head out on tour, and Robyn backed out at the last minute saying it was Dallas’s chance to make it big, and she wasn’t going to ruin his chances of success. Fast forward to present day where Robyn is now the marketing and promotions coordinator for Dallas’s tour-a tour that finds Dallas alone on stage without his original band. What ensues is a rebuilding relationship between Dallas and Robyn-a relationship mired in secrets, jealousy and another potential threat from an outside source-Dallas’s manager continues to interfere in his private life-pushing our hero towards the top of the charts.

Dallas and Robyn were high school sweethearts who promised one another the world. But the summer following graduation found Robyn looking at a different future-one that involved a family emergency back home. As Robyn said goodbye to Dallas Lark, Dallas believed everything about his love for Robyn had been a lie. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense. Robyn and Dallas have several years of makeup $ex to explore.

LOVING DALLAS is a fast paced story of second chances; a tale about fated lovers who will reconnect after several years apart. The premise is impassioned; the characters are tragic and intense; the happily ever after is a long time coming.

Guest Post

A NOTE FROM CAISEY QUINN

When I look back on the year it took to write this series, it feels like a blur. A beautiful, bright, neon lit blur. I have to confess that I didn’t know exactly how the Neon Dreams series would end when I began writing it. I knew the band would finally make it big. I knew that they would never want to share their backstory but that it would be a story worth telling. What I didn’t know was how real their hearts and souls would become to me. While Liam may not be Dixie and Gavin’s biological son, I did learn this year that family truly does come in the form of people who love and support you in both the best and worst of times and that it’s not always comprised of people who are related by blood or marriage. Liam was born from that discovery.

When Dallas went on the road and Dixie stayed behind, some people were outright angry. I was. At both of them. I was confused about why this felt right. I didn’t know Liam existed yet. I didn’t know he was going to be wandering by an old house in the backside of Amarillo alone and afraid. I didn’t realize that Dixie had to be there giving piano lessons to other kiddos so that Liam would hear and be drawn to her.
Everyone was exactly where they needed to be—even when I hadn’t yet realized it.

So my first big thank you is for you, for those of you who read this series and allowed me to figure it out as I went. For each of you who leaves a review somewhere—anywhere—and tells a friend to read it, thank you times two. Times ten. Times infinity, as my daughter says.
My second thank you is to my editor, Amanda, who didn’t tell me to take a hike when Liam entered the picture and it meant a rewrite of the second half of the book and that I wouldn’t make my initial deadline. I love you. I thank God for you, for your always having my back and for allowing me to write the story I believed in, the way that I needed to write it.

Thank you to my agent, Kevan, for also not dropping the crazy lady who said “So . . . my life is a mess and I need this book to go a different way and I am going to hunker down into the bat cave until I get it right.” Promise not to do that again . . . at least not on purpose.
To the members of CQ’s Road Crew and the Backwoods Belles, you ladies have been my family this year. You have been my light in the darkness, pulling me out of one of the toughest and most devastating situations I’ve ever been in. I literally don’t know if I could do my job without your unconditional love and support. Scratch that. I couldn’t. I know I couldn’t. Same goes for the bloggers who share, review, post, and rant and rave about all the book things. I love y’all. To the moon and back and around again.

To the amazing authors I am blessed to call colleagues and friends, thank you. I don’t know what I did to deserve you, to even get to know you much less read your work and have my books read and loved on by you, but I’m glad I did it—whatever it was!

Lastly, to anyone who supports music and musicians in general, thank you for existing. Music matters. The epilogue from Liam is very much nonfiction in my world, and I have someone I love dearly that I believe was saved by music. You know that feeling you get when you hear that song—that one that causes you to step off the treadmill or pull the car over or freeze in place and hold your breath and strain to hear because it reaches that deep, dark, hidden place where your secrets dwell—it’s a real, tangible thing, that feeling. It connects us—especially when we are positive no one else in the entire world could possibly understand what we’re going through. And let’s face it, life is better with a soundtrack.

Thank you to every single person who had a hand in helping this series about a small-town ragtag band become more than I ever dreamed it could be.

Thank you for making my dreams come true.

The Opposite of Right by Christi Barth – a Review

The Opposite of Right by Christi Barth – a Review

The Opposite of RightAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo

Description:
Kylie Stafford has spent her whole life doing exactly what’s expected. The right major, the right sorority, the right guys, just like her mother and her sister before her. But when everything falls apart for her, Kylie wonders if doing everything right has been utterly wrong. There’s only one way to find out.

She decides to try making all the wrong choices for three months. Hit on a tattoo-covered rock musician? Check. Go back to his dressing room for a hot hook-up against the wall? Gulp. Drop everything to be a roadie for him to binge on more of the best sex of her life? Maybe. Start falling for him despite her better judgment? Um….yeah. Figure out why doing everything that seems wrong feels so darn right?

Review:

The Opposite of Right by Christi Barth is the 1st book in her new Bad Decisions series. I always enjoy Christi’s writing, as she does sweet sexy romances, with fun stories. The Opposite of Right is no different. I really enjoyed reading this book, as well as the characters.

Kylie Stafford is our heroine, and a fun, smart and savvy one she is. Kylie is coming off one of the worst days of young life. Having just graduated, she loses her internship, her boyfriend and her apartment. While sitting at a bar with her friend, she decides that after always being the girl who does the right thing, it was time to try to do the wrong thing. She sees a hot looking man standing near the bar, and decides it was time to do the “wrong” thing, by kissing the stranger. What Kylie did not know was that the man she just kissed was the lead singer of the rock band Riptide.

Cam Watson is our hero, and he is shocked when the pretty young girl asks for a kiss. Cam could tell she had no idea who he was, though she later tells him she was at the bar to see her favorite band, Riptide. Cam is immediately attracted to Kylie, as he senses she is different than the groupies who follow them. When his goodie girl has to go in the hospital for surgery, Cam when he learns about Kylie’s bad daty, decides to ask her if she would help the band out for 4 weeks, taking orders, and manning the tables.

What follows is a slow to build sweet romance, that starts off with Kylie and Cam being friends with benefits. Their chemistry was very hot, and I loved them together. Cam finds himself falling hard for Kylie, but isn’t sure his wild life style is for her. Kyle also does not think anything will come of their relationship, and needs to concentrate on finding herself a job when this temporary job is finished. Cam was such a wonderful character, despite his wild life style. He was so sweet and caring to Kylie, not to mention very very sexy. Kylie was a fun character, who enjoyed her naughtiness in spending time with her rock star and the band. Is there any hope of a future for Cam & Kylie?

I also enjoyed the other main characters, Cam’s two bandmates and Kylie’s best friend. A perfect group of characters for Christi to use in the future stories.   The Opposite of Right was a fun, sexy, and quick read that I really enjoyed. I know you will love it too.

Fair Helen by Andrew Greig – a Review

Fair Helen by Andrew Greig – a Review

Fair HelenAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
Elderly narrator Harry Langton looks back on the adventures and friends of his youth, transporting the reader to the Scottish Borderlands at the end of the 16th century…

The much younger Langton returns to his birthplace to aid an old friend, the brash Adam Fleming, who has fallen for legendary beauty Helen of Annandale. He has also, it seems, fallen foul of a rival for her hand, Robert Bell, a man as violent as he is influential. Fleming confesses to Langton that he fears for his life.

In a land where minor lairds vie for power and blood feuds are settled by the sword, Fleming faces a battle to win Helen’s hand. By virtue of being the lovers’ confidant, Langton is thrust into the middle of this dangerous triangle, and discovers Helen is not so chaste as she is fair. But Langton has his own secrets to keep–and other powers to serve. Someone has noticed Langton’s connections to the major players in the Border disputes, and has recruited him in their bid to control the hierarchy of the Border families–someone who would use the lovers as pawns in a game of war.

Packed with swordplay, intricate politics, and star-crossed lovers whose actions could change the course of history, Fair Helen is a sumptuous, rousing adventure novel that brings to life one of English poetry’s most intriguing heroines.

Review:

Fair Helen  by Andrew Greig is a fictional and historical romance or perhaps best labeled fable. Written as a first-hand account of Harry Langston, friend of Adam Fleming, this wonderful story gives the “true” story of the old Scottish song or legend of Fair Helen of Kirkconnel Lea.

This is the story of star-crossed lovers, of political intrigue, the plight of women who had to marry for family and wealth versus love. Told in the lilting tongue of an old Scottish scriber, I found it easy to understand the gist of the telling without the glossary (included for convenience in the back of the book). It takes you to another place and another time with its telling. Descriptions of the place, the people and the times are full and sometimes even enchanting.

Following Harry’s account of people and their part in this story is detailed and you can’t help hoping for an outcome brighter than the old song. His version of how and why all this came about, and especially the political motives behind it are brilliantly devised.

If you love historical accounts and romance, this is a wonderful story. I loved reading it and although I love a HEA, it’s so worth reading this remarkable tale of love, trysting, and heart wrenching betrayal. I highly recommend it for a cold evening or evenings…with a good glass of wine and a warm fire or blanket. Enjoy, I truly found it a good read.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 10, 2015

Raised as a prototype for the Georgian Bratva’s obedience drug, 221 fails to think, act, or live for himself; he’s his master’s perfectly-crafted killing puppet. Standing at six-foot-six, weighing two-hundred-and-fifty pounds, and unrivaled in to-the-death combat, 221 successfully secures business for the Georgian Mafiya Boss of NYC, who rules the dark world of the criminal underground. Until his enemies capture him.

Talia Tolstaia dreams to break from the heavy clutches of Bratva life. She dreams of another life–away from the stifling leash of her Russian Bratva Boss father and from the brutality of her work at The Dungeon, her criminal family’s underground death-match enterprise. But when she stumbles upon her family’s captive who is more monster than man, she starts to see the man underneath. A powerful, beautiful, damaged man whose heart calls to hers. But sacrifices must be made–blood for blood…life for life…souls for scarred souls.

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: REAP is the second installment in Tillie Cole’s contemporary, adult SCARRED SOULS erotic, dark romance series focusing on the Russian Mafia, Georgian Bratva criminal underground, cages fights to the death, and two families torn apart by power and greed. This is Zaal (aka 221), and Talia Tolstoi’s storyline. REAP can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for background history and cohesion.

Told from three first person perspectives (Zaal, Talia, Luka) REAP follows the imprisonment, torture and freedom of enslaved killer Zaal ‘221’ Kostava. Kidnapped as a young boy, 221 has known nothing but pain and poison for the past twenty years: trained to kill; drugged into obedience 221 remembers nothing of his previous life only that he is meant to kill both in and out of the arena; freedom is a distant memory. What ensues is the rescue of 221, and his slow rehabilitation where memories of the past begin to consume his entire world until he meets Talia-the woman who would eventually hold his heart and his soul, but a woman who is a member of the enemy family.

REAP is a violent storyline with graphic language; scenes of rape, vicious abuse and gladiator-style killings. The ‘killers’ are victims of kidnapping, abuse, drug-induced mind control, and a need to kill or be killed. Years living in the dark have left the fighters broken and feral, with no hope for freedom or a chance at a normal life. Trained from a young age, killing and torture is all they have ever known.

REAP is also a story about family. As an eight year old child, Zaal, along with his twin brother Anri, witnessed the execution of his entire family. Anri would become best friends with Luka in the pits of hell; Zaal would become the number one killer in the fighting ring. But the Tolstoi’s and Kostava’s are bitter enemies-murder and revenge but a heartbeat away. Ivan Tolstoi-Talia’s father-is the new king-a man who abhors everything the Kostava’s represent.

Tillie Cole writes a story about forbidden love; a second chance at life; and a broken man whose heart and soul have been shattered by years of torment and abuse. REAP is an emotional storyline that will break your heart for the childhood that never was; for the men that never will be; for the yearning of freedom and what is to come.

When an assassin tries to kill undercover DEA agent Tucker Pankov the same week his boss is taken out, Tucker has good reason to be paranoid. So he kidnaps the only woman he thinks can save them.

Brilliant NSA analyst Karen Stafford doesn’t like being forced into anything, especially by someone she doesn’t trust. Yet after a hijacked US-owned drone starts attacking government installations resulting in mass casualties, Karen has to take Tucker’s side. Now, two unlikely allies must unite to prevent an escalating and unthinkable terrorist conspiracy. But as Tucker and Karen grow intimate, they realize the conspiracy runs deep, and their enemies are closer than anyone realized.

REVIEW: EDGE OF DANGER is the fourth installment in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult DEADLY OPS romantic suspense series. This is DEA agent Tucker Pankov, and NSA analyst Karen Stafford’s storyline. EDGE OF DANGER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from several third person perspectives EDGE OF DANGER focuses on the hunt for a home-grown terrorist cell conspiring to take down the US administration. Tucker Pankov and his team of DEA agents-Cole Erickson , Forest Kane, and Paxton Brooks had just lost their mentor and head of the DEA Max Southers to a suspected terrorist attack but the men soon found themselves the number one suspects in the murder and a series of attacks against the American people. When each member of Tucker’s team (including our hero) is targeted for death, Tucker knows that someone inside could be calling the shots. With all of their resources cut off, Tucker and his men ‘kidnap’ NSA analyst Karen Stafford in the hopes of contacting the only man Tucker and his men can trust-head of the NSA Wes Burkhart. What ensues is the search for the people responsible, and a building relationship between Karen and Tucker.

EDGE OF DANGER is an action packed, fast paced, lust to love storyline that focuses on power, greed, money and betrayal. While Tucker and his men remain hidden, Karen must play go-between in order to help ferret out the person(s) responsible for the attacks and the death of Max Southers. While in seclusion Tucker and Karen’s relationship will become personal, and in the end, could very well be used against Tucker if something were to happen to their ‘kidnapped victim.’ The $ex scenes are romantic, erotic and intense. Tucker is a man who knows how to please the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Tucker and Karen is a quick enemies to friends to lovers storyline-a storyline that takes our couple from strangers to lovers in a matter of hours to days. There is no denying their immediate attraction, chemistry and lust for one another; a profession of love comes very quickly under extreme circumstances and threats against their lives.

The secondary and supporting characters include all of Tucker’s team mates, as well as Selene Wolfe (Shattered Duty #3), Wesley Burkhart –head of the NSA; NSA agent Nathan Ortiz (whose storyline is next in A COVERT AFFAIR), and several other agents from the NSA, DEA, CIA and the local PD. The requisite evil has many faces, and a number of connections within the various agencies and the political elite.

EDGE OF DANGER is a story with suspense, mystery, action and romance. The premise is intriguing, gripping and impassioned; the characters are intense and fascinating; the romance is sensual and provocative. Katie Reus has a talent for capturing your imagination.

Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts – a Review

Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts – a Review

Stars of Fortune
Guardians Trilogy – Book @1
by Nora Roberts
Release Date: November 3, 2015

Stars of FortuneAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
To celebrate the rise of their new queen, three goddesses of the moon created three stars, one of fire, one of ice, one of water. But then they fell from the sky, putting the fate of all worlds in danger. And now three women and three men join forces to pick up the pieces…

Sasha Riggs is a reclusive artist, haunted by dreams and nightmares that she turns into extraordinary paintings. Her visions lead her to the Greek island of Corfu, where five others have been lured to seek the fire star. Sasha recognizes them, because she has drawn them: a magician, an archaeologist, a wanderer, a fighter, a loner. All on a quest. All with secrets.

Sasha is the one who holds them together—the seer. And in the magician, Bran Killian, she sees a man of immense power and compassion. As Sasha struggles with her rare ability, Bran is there to support her, challenge her, and believe in her.

But Sasha and Bran are just two of the six. And they all must all work together as a team to find the fire star in a cradle of land beneath the sea. Over their every attempt at trust, unity, and love, a dark threat looms. And it seeks to corrupt everything that stands in its way of possessing the stars…

Review:

Stars of Fortune by Nora Roberts is the first book in her new Guardians trilogy. As in most of Nora’s trilogies, there are usually three couples, who are part of the entire trilogy, and eventually are paired off, with each couple leading each book. Stars of Fortune starts off with three goddesses who are in the midst of gifting their new queen with special stars; but they must hide it from another goddess, who is in fact evil. The stars fall and are lost, opening the story many many years later for those who are destined to be the ones to find the hidden stars and return them to the goddess.

We meet Sasha, who is a famous painter, who also has visions of meeting 5 others to go on a quest she doesn’t understand, but she paints the visions. Sasha decides she must act on her visions and goes to an island in Greece, Corfu. She will begin to meet those who are part of the quest, and who are exactly as she painted them.

Riley, an archaeologist, is the first person she meets. Shortly thereafter, she will meet Bran, who calls himself a magician. The three of them realize they were meant to meet, and together they start on their journey, and along the way they will meet the other three: Sawyer, a traveler; Annika, a bubbly beautiful girl, who appears out of the blue; and Doyle, a swordsman. All of them have a little bit of their own magic and each came looking for the stars. They all have secrets that will eventually be revealed, but slowly they must learn to trust each other, in order to be able to defeat the villain, the evil goddess, Nerezza.

Sasha is the key, as she is the seer, who can see things, and draw them out for clues. In Stars of Fortune, the first book belongs to Sasha and Bran, who develop their romance during the journey. Sasha is well known, but she is very private. She knows nothing of love, and in Bran, she discovers what she has been missing all these years. They made a great couple, but they are part of the overall story, as this is a full ensemble storyline, with all six of them playing integral parts of the story. Each person has their own secret, and the powers they bring to the group.

Rather than tell too much more, this was an exciting adventure, with lots of action, and danger; as well as a fun storyline, with a paranormal theme. I love when Nora brings us a group of people who join together in friendship to become a team that will try to destroy the enemy. They must be united in order to be able to stop Nerezza. This was a nice romance, great storyline, and another fantastic battle between good and evil.

I love all of Nora Roberts’ trilogies, and Stars of Fortune was a great start to another winner. If you like romance, exciting adventure, great characters, friendships, nasty villain and a fun storyline, then you must read Stars of Fortune.

It’s Only Love
Green Mountain series – Book #5
by Marie Force
Release Date: November 3, 2015

It's Only LoveAmazon / Barnes & Noble/ Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
Ella Abbott has long been secretly in love with Gavin Guthrie. A few recent encounters have only added to her infatuation, especially the kiss they shared at her sister’s wedding. It doesn’t matter to Ella that Gavin is in a bad place. He says there’s no hope for a future with him, that he has nothing to offer her. But all Ella cares about is the love she feels.

It’s been seven long years since Gavin lost his brother. He’d kept himself under control and moving forward until his brother’s beloved dog died and his brother’s widow re-married. Since then, he’s been drinking, fighting, and even getting arrested. It seems the only time his demons leave him alone is when Ella is around.

Gavin knows it wouldn’t be fair to drag Ella into his darkness, but when she inserts herself into his life, what choice does he have but to allow her to soothe his aching heart?

Review:

It’s Only Love by Marie Force is the 5th book in her wonderful Green Mountain series. This is a fabulous family oriented series, and in each book we get to spend time with all the family members we have met before. It’s Only Love brings us the couple we have been waiting a long time for…Ella and Gavin.

Ella Abbot has always loved Gavin Guthrie, but after the tragic death of his brother years ago, Gavin did not allow himself to feel anything but cold heart grief.   One night, after Gavin got into a drunken brawl, Ella is called to come to the bar and take Gavin home. Why Ella? Gavin has broken her heart by not reciprocating the feelings she shows him. She has given up on Gavin Guthrie, and she was shocked to find her name was in his wallet, in case of an emergency.

Gavin at first is angry that Ella was called, but when she forces herself into his life to bring him home and take care of him; things are about to change. Gavin has always loved Ella, but thought he was totally unworthy. But Ella looks at him in adoration, and Gavin no longer can resist the woman who makes him feel normal.

What follows is a sweet, loving romance between two people who were meant to be together, but with so obstacles blocking the way. Ella and Gavin dive in with everything they have to open themselves to their love for each other. When they gave in to their lust, the sex scenes were totally beautiful, sensual and sizzling.

The Abbott family was full force in this book, as they worried that Gavin will break Ella’s heart again; since they were not sure he was mentally recovered from the tragic grief that strangled him. I loved the Abbot family, and Green Mountain, and enjoyed the parts where they tried to help Ella. It was great to see Hannah, Noah, Will, Cameron, and all the Abbots.

As much as they love each other, the obstacles will rear its ugly head, causing major doubts. Will Ella be able to handle Gavin’s down moments and trust that he won’t hurt her again? Can Gavin keep his promises that he will always stay by her?

It is a wild finish, with us worrying the entire way. Marie Force once again gives us a fabulous addition to her wonderful Green Mountain series.   The next book is either Charley or Max’s turn. Can’t wait. This series is a fun, sweet, romantic adventure with a fabulous family.
