ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 3, 2015

After a decade spent chasing shadier pursuits, Casey Grossier has come home to the badlands to settle down in Fortuity. Vowing to put his days of dirty money behind him, he’s cleaned up his act and become co-owner of Benji’s Saloon. But despite his efforts to be a better man, he can’t shake his crush on his sweet-faced bartender, even though the woman screams trouble.

Abilene Price hopes she can outrun her mistakes and build a safe, respectable life for herself and her baby. So she’d be wise to keep her distance from her boss, Casey, and the rest of his roughneck motorcycle club, the Desert Dogs. But she just might need their help. The return of a violent figure from Abilene’s past ignites a powder keg—and it’s only the beginning…

•••••••••••

REVIEW: BURN IT UP is the third installment in Cara McKenna’s contemporary, adult DESERT DOGS erotic, romantic suspense series focusing in the town of Fortuity, Nevada, and a group of motorcycle riding friends who call themselves the Desert Dogs. This is bar owner Casey Grossier, and new mom Abilene Price’s storyline. BURN IT UP and the Desert Dogs series is NOT a series about a motorcycle club, but a series about a family of brothers and their friends who like to ride.

SOME BACKGROUND: Eclipse Resorts and Casinos has made many enemies in the sleepy, small town of Fortuity, Nevada as they forge ahead with plans to build and open a new casino. Most of the townsfolk have some issues with the company, and with it will comes threats of a personal nature.

Told from third person point of view BURN IT UP follows the building relationship between Casey Grossier, and his employee Abilene Price. Abilene is a new mom; a single mother who has worked for Casey for close to a year, and with it comes feelings and emotions between the couple as Casey finds himself playing house with the woman and her child. Casey has grown to love the baby since she was born, but knows that to get involved with his employee could open a new can of problems. When Abilene discovers her ex, and the baby’s father, is about to be released from jail, Casey brings together his brother Vince, Miah Church, Raina Harper and Duncan Welch to form a protective circle around the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Casey and Abilene begins as employer and employee, eventually turning to friendship than lovers. But Casey and Abilene both have dark and dangerous pasts, and it is those secrets that they keep from one another that will force Abilene to look at Casey in a completely different light. The $ex scenes are exploratory and seductive but ultimately a little boring.

The secondary and supporting characters include all of the previous storyline couples as well as Don and Christine Church, and Abilene’s ex boyfriend James Ware. The characters are raw, real and not without some skeletons in the closets. The world building continues to focus on the new Resort and Casino, their problems with the people of Fortuity, Nevada, and to what extremes the company will go to, to ensure their plans reach fruition.

BURN IT UP is a story of mystery and suspense; secrets and lies; betrayal and heartbreak. The premise is engaging; the characters are colorful and entertaining; the romance was a slow build to a happily ever after-for now.

But I did have some issues with the heroine as it pertained to her ability to judge others for their sins when her own sins were just as dark and dirty. Her lack of self confidence; her ability to manipulate others; her perceived sense of right and wrong; and her overall naivety was a bit of a distraction-she was a difficult heroine to like. There was also an issue with the resolution of the original conflict –it was unexciting and dull- but I suspect there is more to the story that has yet to be told. The introduction of a new conflict has fired up some heartbreak and more questions; the town of Fortuity will lose one of their own.

Backbreaking days, wild nights, and the hard hum of steel between your thighs…

That’s a life well lived, according to the Desert Dogs—four friends who call Fortuity, Nevada, their badlands home.

Vince Grossier is the self-crowned outlaw king around here. But when Fortuity’s slick new mayor invites a casino development to town, greed isn’t far behind—and it claims Vince’s good friend as its first casualty. ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 3, 2015

A hot new Desert Dogs novel from the author of Lay It Down

Keep your friends close—and your enemies closer….

Bar owner Raina Harper can’t say for sure what Duncan Welch is to her. With her small Nevada town under siege by a ruthless casino development and still reeling from a spate of murders, she knows that trusting the public face of the corporate invaders is risky to say the least. Though, damn, it’s one fine-looking face.…

Duncan may be a mercenary when it comes to getting the job done, but he’s no villain. In fact, the calculating fixer soon finds himself in the bad guys’ crosshairs, framed and facing professional ruin. To clear his name, he’ll need help from Raina and her roughneck motorcycle club, the Desert Dogs. Gaining their trust won’t be easy, and the molten sexual tension between Raina and Duncan only makes things more complicated—especially since Miah Church, Raina’s friend and ex-lover, would sooner strangle Duncan than shake his hand.

One thing’s certain, though: If they don’t deal with their incendiary attraction soon, the whole damn town might go up in flames.…

TOUGH ENOUGH ( Tall,Dark and Dangerous #2) by M. Leighton

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 3, 2015

He’s a fighter who never loses, but is he tough enough to win her heart?

There was a time when I had everything–a wonderful family, a bright future. Love. But all that was taken away in a single night, torn from me like flesh from bone. Since then, I’ve hidden away in my second-choice job as a makeup artist. But I prefer it that way, actually. I’m comfortable in the shadows, where no one can see my scars.

Kiefer Rogan literally took my breath away the moment I met him. MMA champion-turned-actor, notorious playboy, charming to a fault—he’s everything I vowed to avoid.

But he just wouldn’t stop until I opened up and let him in. Maybe I should’ve tried harder to resist him. Maybe I shouldn’t have fallen in love with him. Because I, of all people, know that everyone has secrets. Scars. And that they’re usually ugly and painful and destructive to the people we love most.

I just never guessed that they could be deadly, too.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: TOUGH ENOUGH is the second installment in M.Leighton’s contemporary, adult Tall, Dark and Dangerous erotic, romantic suspense series. This is actor/MMA fighter/ former Special Ops soldier Kiefer “The Rain” Rogan, and make-up artist to the stars Katie Rydale’s storyline. TOUGH ENOUGH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storyline is revealed where necessary.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Kiefer and Katie) TOUGH ENOUGH follows the building relationship between Kiefer and Katie. Katie is the make-up artist for Kiefer’s latest movie, and with it comes the attraction towards a man she wants to avoid-Kiefer’s reputation with the ladies precedes their introduction. Katie is a young woman who is merely existing on a day to day basis, and Kiefer is the man who will push Katie to go for what she wants. What ensues is Kiefer’s seduction of Katie Rydale-a woman with secrets she wants kept hidden.

Kiefer is a man who appears to have everything under control but his past is about to catch up with him and the men from Delta Five. Kiefer and his fellow army buddies have been targeted for destruction and with it comes an investigation into the who, what and why. We are reintroduced to Muse Harper and Jasper King (Strong Enough #1), as well as Tag, and Kiefer’s brother Kurt. Kurt has been confined to a wheel chair following a devastating attack by someone close. Katie’s best friend Mona plays a pivotal role in setting up Kiefer and Katie; Mona needs her own storyline and a happily ever after.

The relationship between Kiefer and Katie is one of immediate attraction but Katie keeps Kiefer at arm’s length. Katie’s secrets hide both emotional and physical scars that have control over her life; Kiefer’s own secrets are rooted deeply in Katie’s past. The $ex scenes are erotic, intimate and intense.

The world building focuses on abuse, revenge, betrayal and love, but also on the hunt for the person(s) responsible for destroying the men of Delta Five.

M. Leighton pulls the reader into a story of romance and love; retribution and deception; power and greed. The premise is entertaining; the characters are flawed but loveable ; the romance is inspiring, seductive and hot. There are a few twists and turns, and a conflict resolution that ends rather quickly. I was hoping for a few more details and backstory.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 3, 2015

Secretly married…to a prince!

Zoe Sarris hasn’t seen Crown Prince Demetrius Castanavo since their secret elopement. So she’s shocked when he requests her interior design services. She’s only just pieced her broken heart back together, and seeing Demetrius–as gorgeous and guarded as ever–threatens to shatter it all over again…

However, the shocking news that they are actually still married changes everything. Especially when Demetrius reveals he wants his princess back…preferably in time for Christmas!

•••••••

REVIEW: The Prince’s Christmas Vow is a lovely romance by author Jennifer Faye. It’s a lovely seasonal story centering on Prince Demetrius Castanavo (of the Mirraccino Islands) and Zoe Sarris. They had fallen in love and married secretly and within two days she’d left a note and run away, breaking both hearts.

This is a lovely romantic story with a heart-wrenching disease at its center. Zoe’s mother has familial Altzheimer’s and she was afraid to pass it on to their children and let her husband down, so she’d run away without telling him why. A year later, he’d become the respectable prince he needed to be and was doing a renovation project and needed her help. He thought they could just work together on this and perhaps he’d get some answers, as well as annulment papers he thought she was holding onto.

That’s the set up. The story is twisty and fantastically romantic as they wind their way through misunderstandings and back into each other’s lives. There’s much story on both sides and they are both still very much in love with each other. The writing is descriptive, romantic and very well done. This is a delightful read and a very romantic tale for the holiday season.

Grab a glass of egg nog…and a few seasonal cookies and cuddle up for a wonderful read and thrilling ride through this fabulous story! Enjoy everyone, I certainly did.

Interview

TRC: Hi Jennifer and welcome to The Reading Café.

Jennifer FayeJennifer: Hi. 🙂 Thanks so much for having me.

TRC: Congratulations on the November 1, 2015 t release of THE PRINCE’S CHRISTMAS VOW (Twin Princes of Mirraccino, book 2) and the October 12, 2015 release of A MOMENT ON THE LIPS (A Whistle Stop Romance, book 3).

Jennifer: Thank you! I’m very excited about both releases.

TRC: We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Follow Jennifer: Goodreads/Website/Twitter/ Facebook

Jennifer: I’m a wife and mother. I have two wonderful furbabies, otherwise known as cats. But shh…don’t tell them that. I’m also a writer with a vast imagination. I love to write small town romances and romances set in far flung settings. It keeps things interesting.

TRC: Who or what influenced your career in writing?

Jennifer: I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was a kid. My love of reading started with Dr. Seuss and then moved on to the Hardy Boys and Judy Bloom. When I was a teenager, I found Harlequins and I’ve been reading them ever since. 😉

TRC: What challenges or difficulties have you encounter writing and publishing your stories? Have you considered entering the ‘indie’ publication field?

Jennifer: When I first got serious about my writing in 2007, I received my fair share of rejections. The best ones were the personalized ones. I knew I was getting somewhere when they started to show up. But my dream had always been to be a Harlequin author and I wasn’t about to give up. 😉

As for going the indie route, I have done that also. I’m what they call a hybrid author. I have learned so much from following both paths. I think what I’ve learned from one form of publishing has helped the other side. And vice versa. The best thing about publishing/writing is that I’m always learning something new. 😉

TRC: Would you please tell us something about the premise of :

The Prince's Christmas VowJennifer: THE PRINCE’S CHRISTMAS VOW:

Secretly married…to a prince!

Zoe Sarris hasn’t seen Crown Prince Demetrius Castanavo since their secret elopement. So she’s shocked when he requests her interior design services. She’s only just pieced her broken heart back together, and seeing Demetrius—as gorgeous and guarded as ever—threatens to shatter it all over again…

However, the shocking news that they are actually still married changes everything. Especially when Demetrius reveals he wants his princess back…preferably in time for Christmas!

A Moment on the LipsA MOMENT ON THE LIPS:

Welcome to Autumn Fest…sweet treats, entertaining company, and a tender romance.

Piper Noble feels like she’s going places. Her business, the Poppin’ Fresh Bakery, is a culinary success story. Next on her to-do list is expanding the bakery into the vacant shop next door…and starting a new diet, like her mom keeps nagging her to. But when Joe Montoya steps into her life, her grand plans grind to a sudden halt.

Joe’s taken a big risk returning to Whistle Stop. But with his disastrous marriage over, it’s time for a fresh start, including opening a coffee shop…and coming to terms with his troubled past. Though his neighbor Piper looks like she’ll be a big distraction in getting Fill-It-Up Joe off the ground–with her honeyed smile, curvy goodness, and her unflagging determination to grab his storefront.

However, when Piper and Joe are elected as co-chairs of a fundraising committee to help the town’s revitalization project, the hostilities must cease. Joe’s not sure about spending time with a woman who, one moment, reminds him of all the good things he’s been missing, and the next minute drives him up a wall with her stubbornness. Meanwhile, Piper’s looking for the way to this gorgeous but grouchy guy’s heart–maybe serving him one of her fresh-from-the-oven pastries could be just the right start…

TRC: How do you keep the plot(s) unpredictable without sacrificing content and believability?

Jennifer: I guess I’d have to say it comes into play when I’m outlining the story. It’s the first thing I do. I learned a long time ago that it was a lot faster to revise a short outline than to go back and rewrite the book. So if I can outline the story, playing off the character’s motivations as the driving force, then I hope the story will be believable and true to the characters and their desires.

TRC: Do you believe the cover image plays a deciding factor for many readers in the process of selecting a book or new series to read?

Whistle Stop Series

Jennifer: I do believe it plays somewhat of a role in whether a reader takes a closer look at a book. There are a lot of books out there so if a cover doesn’t strike them or the author’s name doesn’t click in their minds, I think they’re likely to move on and miss what might be an awesome book.

TRC: When writing a storyline, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

Jennifer: Life would be so much easier if I could direct the characters. 😉 Even though I expand my outline until it’s rather extensive, I find that my characters will take their own detours. Plotting by no means takes the surprise out of writing the story. I never know when we’ll be off on an adventure/detour. It really keeps writing interesting.

TRC: The mark of a good writer is to pull the reader into the storyline so that they experience the emotions along with the characters. What do you believe a writer must do to make this happen? Where do you believe writer’s fail in this endeavor?

Jennifer: Oh my. I don’t know if I’m the right person to answer this question. I’m forever wondering if I went deep enough—far enough. It’s all so clear in my head, but sometimes it’s so hard to convey on the page. In the end, I do the best I can at that point in time and then I hope that I nailed it. I wait until my readers get back to me with their thoughts to know if I pulled it off or not. Either way, I do give it my all. 😉

TRC: Do you listen to music while writing? If so, does the style of music influence the storyline direction? Characters?

Jennifer: Yes, I listen to music all of the time. Most of the time it’s country music. I’m a BIG Tim McGraw fan. And when I’m writing my Christmas romances, I play Christmas music on Pandora. 😉 And no, it doesn’t really influence my stories. It just keeps me humming along.

TRC: What three things would you like to accomplish in the next five years?

Jennifer: Lots! I have so many story ideas in my head that are just bursting to get out. I either need to figure out how to squeeze more hours in the day or learn how to write faster. I have lots of plans to expand the Whistle Stop series. I have more Harlequin books in the works. I have some other series ideas that I’d love to explore.

TRC: Have you collaborated with any other authors/writers? If not, have you considered such an enterprise?

Jennifer: Yes, I have. I worked with a group of Harlequin Romance authors to write the Vineyards of Monte Calanetti continuity. It’s an 8-book series set in the breathtaking hills of Tuscany. The stories range around a small Italian village and an upcoming royal wedding. It was my first time working that close with other writers. It was very exciting. My book is the second in the series, RETURN OF THE ITALIAN TYCOON. FYI, each book can be read as a standalone as each has its own HEA.

And I also just took part in an 88-author cookbook, WE’D RATHER BE WRITING. It just released. It is full of time-saving recipes and tips. The blurb can explain it better than me:

TRC: Have you ever wished you could find more time to do the things you want to do, rather than just doing the things you have to do?

Jennifer: Most authors juggle day jobs and family responsibilities along with their writing. Because they need to find time to write, they look for ways to save time in other aspects of their lives.

Cooking often takes up a huge chunk of time. In We’d Rather Be Writing: 88 Authors Share Timesaving Dinner Recipes and Other Tips you’ll find easy, nutritious recipes for meat, poultry, pasta, soup, stew, chili, and vegetarian meals. All of the recipes require a minimum of prep time, freeing you up to read, exercise, garden, craft, write, spend more time with family, or whatever.

TRC: Many authors bounce ideas and information with other authors or friends and family. With whom do you bounce ideas?

Jennifer: Honestly, I don’t bounce ideas much. When I do, they are bounced off my editor mainly and sometimes my husband. He has the most amusing reactions at times when his brow scrunches up and he asks, “Why would they do that?” Well, usually it’s because I’ve jumped over the beginning and gotten to the part I’m excited about—the part I’ve just figured out. 😉

TRC: What do you believe is the biggest misconception people have about authors?

Jennifer: That writing is easy. These days authors are so much more than writers. Basically they are small business owners. There is so much admin that needs addressed from marketing to bookkeeping to tackling the ever busy email. There’s always something that needs attention and when you work for yourself, there are no office hours. It just keeps going.

TRC: What is something that few, if any people, know about you?

Jennifer: That my favorite time of the year to enjoy ice cream is in the winter. LOL. When the hubster figured this out, you should have seen his face, especially when it was snowing and he was standing in line at the ice cream shop to get me a hot fudge sundae. LOL.

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Jennifer: I just completed and turned in a book to Harlequin, THE GREEK’S NINE-MONTH SURPRISE. It’s the second book in the BRIDES FOR THE GREEK TYCOON’S duet. It will be out June 2016.

And I’m just about to begin the fourth book in the Whistle Stop series, A MOMENT TO CHERISH…

Wedding bells are about to ring out in Whistle Stop. And trust me, it won’t be your typical wedding. It will be done up in Whistle Stop style. 😉 And if that isn’t enough, there’s a mayoral election underway that’s about to become rather sticky and not from the honey fresh pastries at the Poppin’ Fresh Bakery either. 😉 For years now, Mayor Ortiz has run unopposed, but all of that is about to change. Mason Noble is about to toss his hat into the election. But will his political pursuits endanger his engagement to the beautiful Bella Nez? And are the townsfolk of Whistle Stop ready to do away with tradition? So many questions. So many changes. Keep an eye out for the fourth installment in the Whistle Stop series ~ A MOMENT TO CHERISH coming Spring 2016.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Jennifer: Thanks so much for having me. I’ve really enjoyed my visit. I hope we can do it again. 🙂

This is war correspondent Tanner Thomas, and photojournalist Beaux BJ Croslyn’s storyline. HARD BEAT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Tanner Thomas is Rylee Thomas-Donavan’s brother-the heroine in K.Bromberg’s original Driven Trilogy.

Told from first person point of view (Tanner Thomas) HARD BEAT follows Tanner as he returns to the Middle East following the death of his previous partner (and photographer) and best friend Stella. Stella was killed while on assignment with Tanner, and Tanner is having a difficult time accepting what was and what has to be. Enter Beaux Croslyn-Tanner’s new photographer and partner-and a woman with too many secrets that she is not willing to share. We learn very little about our leading heroine, and her secrets are the catalyst that sets into motion Tanner’s downward spiral.

The relationship between Tanner and Beaux begins acrimoniously-Tanner wants nothing to do with his new photographer- a woman who represents everything he lost-but a woman whose secrets, and late night solo excursions find our hero fearing for the death of another woman with whom he has fallen in love. The banter is angry, aggressive and confrontational, and sets the tone for much of their combative relationship. The $ex scenes are seductive and provocative. I will add that I applaud K. Bromberg’s shift away from the sexually graphic and over-the-top language between our leading couple as found in her earlier storylines. There comes a time when certain words don’t belong in a romance storyline.

The secondary characters include Rylee and Colton Donavan-although most of the interaction is through phone conversations but we do get some one on one time between the characters. We are also introduced to Tanner’s boss Rafe, and a few of his fellow war correspondents and news reporters in the Middle East.

There are several twists and turns throughout the storyline especially near the end when everything goes to h*ll for our storyline hero. The world building focuses on the element of danger, suspense, destruction and potential threats to everyone’s lives-it is a storyline set in the war-torn Middle East where life is as fragile as a piece of glass.

HARD BEAT has moments of heartbreak and tears; emotional breakdowns and tragic loss. The premise is a roller coaster of unanswered questions and hidden agendas; the characters are charismatic and real; but in the end, there is a happily ever after for two people whose paths ventured off in different directions.

excerpt

She pulls me from my lewd but damn fine thoughts when she tries to jerk her arm from my hold. My spine stiffens some because hell if I’m up for resistance right now. I’m emotionally drained, exhausted, and as much as I don’t want to feel that grenade of desire sitting low in my belly, I still want to pull its pin so I can lose myself for a bit in the soft curves and sweet taste of a gorgeous woman no matter how fucking insolent she is.
I clench my jaw. A fleeting show of resistance before I give in to my need and the sexual tension. She gasps when I release her arm only to bring it up to her neck at the same time I crash my lips to hers.
And fuck yes I’m a dick for not letting her push me away, for letting my own need for this woman who will most likely move on by the week’s end control my actions, for taking without asking, but goddamn her small display of independence turns me on something fierce.
I brand my mouth to hers, press my tongue between her lips as she parts them. Her hands push me away, but the movement of her tongue tells me she wants more. She’s a clear contradiction in all meanings of the word. Soft and supple body, but I can feel the toned muscle beneath. Between kisses she tries to pull back, but a soft moan in the back of her throat when my free hand cups her ass tells me how much she wants this.
Her hands fist in my shirt at the same time my hand takes hold of the loose bun at the nape of her neck to tilt her head back and look into her eyes. But her mouth stays right where I want it because I’m nowhere near done with her yet.
“I don’t like you,” she claims through gritted teeth. Our hands run possessively over each other, but derision laced with defiance glimmers in her eyes.
“I beg to differ.” I laugh at the ludicrousness of her statement, considering the predicament we’re in. She tries to step back, but when she doesn’t release my shirt, I know she still wants more.
And fuck, I’m definitely all in. I need this outlet more than I ever realized until I was in the thick of it. I’ve kept to myself at home, fought with my sister when she attempted to fix me up with one of her friends, punished myself, and now with the heat of a woman’s body pressed up against me and the taste of her kiss seared in my goddamn brain, there is no way in hell I’m walking away now.
“I don’t like you,” she reiterates.
“Too bad,” I tell her as I go in for the next kiss. One that’s full of angry desperation and irresistible need with teeth nipping and tongues meeting and that ache deep in my balls taking hold of me. My hips pin her against the cold cinder-block wall behind her.
Her fingers dig into my shoulders as she tears her mouth from mine, our chests heaving. And then just when her protests stop and her tongue starts to dance with mine again, I pull back.
“You’re arrogant and—”
“You don’t have to like me to fuck me,” I say, cutting her off. “You just have to want me.”
She protests, and I cut her words off with my mouth on hers at the same time my hands grab her wrists. Even as I gain the advantage, I feel like she’s pulling out the ground from beneath my feet. “Fuck you!” She manages to get the words out between fervent kisses.
I chuckle against her lips before pulling back and looking straight into her desire-laden eyes. “That’s the plan.”

The Revolution of Ivy by Amy Engel – a Review

The Revolution of Ivy by Amy Engel – a Review

The Revolution of IvyAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
Beyond the fence. I am still alive. Barely.

My name is Ivy Westfall. I am sixteen years old and a traitor. Three months ago, I was forced to marry the president’s son, Bishop Lattimer-as all daughters of the losing side of the war are sold off in marriage to the sons of the winners. But I was different. I had a mission-to kill Bishop.

Instead, I fell in love with him.

Now I am an outcast, left to survive the brutal savagery of the lands outside of civilization. Yet even out here, there is hope. There is life beyond the fence. But I can’t outrun my past. For my actions have set off a treasonous chain of events in Westfall that will change all of our fates-especially Bishop’s.

And this time, it is not enough to just survive…

Review:

The Revolution of Ivy is all about change and breaking glass ceilings. How very fitting: Today is Election Day! A sequel is a daunting task, Amy Engel told me so, but this second book was so compelling…it was as high caliber as her debut, and I raaaved about that one (The Book of Ivy available here). I actually compare TRoI to the likes of The Empire Strikes Back! That’s rare and stellar praise coming from this reader.

Ivy is in full survival mode after [partially] completing her mission. To recap, President Lattimer ordered Ivy put out at the conclusion of book one. Ivy would have accomplished the goal, the Westfall goal, had her heart not been compromised. Falling in love with the enemy wasn’t the plan and her last minute, Hail Mary play cost her place alongside Bishop, her husband and once-intended target. Ivy is blindsided by her family, but even more bereft without Bishop.

I was both exhausted and on edge from the onset of Ivy’s exile. She’s been trained (manipulated?) in the ways of political maneuvers, but no one in the Westfall faction thought to initiate protocols for survival. Ivy’s no princess, but these odds outside the fence were unrelenting and nearly insurmountable. The isolation alone would have catapulted me back inside the safety of Westfall! This mindset is strategic in hindsight, however, as it adds more depth to an already impressive Ivy.

What once was soft has been carved away, leaving only what’s absolutely necessary behind.

The setting commenced as solitary and desperate, until Ivy aligns herself with two nomads, Ash and Caleb. A brother and sister (but not) who welcome Ivy into their group and teach her newfound, comprehensive independence. Her understanding of life outside the fence, nature versus nurture, transforms Ivy into a tour de force; her life in Westfall but a chrysalis.

It’s impossible not to reveal a spoiler as this is a sequel, but suffice it to say that Bishop lands, most unceremoniously, at Ivy’s feet, threatening to dismantle the new life she’d forged from pain and suffering. Their reunion is brutal on the heart. Ivy never expected to see Bishop again, so she began shutting down that vibrant part of her soul that his love set to life (penance for her betrayal). When Bishop arrives solely to be by her side, Ivy is inexplicably angry and terribly confused. Ms. Engel writes a magnificent storyline about reconciling emotions. My heart was lodged in my throat, fearful and mesmerized by the power of their words. To say I swooned is simply insufficient. I was overcome with feeling!

The political turmoil within Westfall reaches our H/H. The Lattimers and Westfalls are at it in veritable Hatfield and McCoy fashion. The flawed system (made up of extremes and revenge) has deprived the town for too long and it’s imploding. Ever conscientious of choice and freedom, will Ivy and Bishop return to instill peace or remain independent and outside the clutches of chaos?

What a finale! Momentous showdowns of the breath-stealing variety! WOW. Ms. Engel advised me that the series ends here. It’s not enough, *sniffs*, I could read about Ivy and Bishop for at least a trilogy! It’s better to have loved, they say? ;D

I cannot recommend The Revolution of Ivy enough! Ms. Engel writes a wonderful YA series that is meant for readers of all ages. She created an outstanding young woman who flourishes under adversity. Ivy’s journey to maturity and identity is exemplary. Bishop’s plight is symbiotic to Ivy’s and his catharsis is displayed with grace and dignity. This series captures magic. I miss them already.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 3, 2015

She’s ready for even more.…

When Abby West discovered her submissive desires, she felt like she was born anew. But lately, her Dominant husband hasn’t been the demanding Master who once fulfilled her every passion. Abby begins to crave something else—and to wonder if Nathaniel can still push her past her boundaries to the places she craves.

Nathaniel knows that Abby belongs to him completely, but even he can’t ignore the pleasure on her face as they get to know their new BDSM group. They’ve invited Nathaniel to guide their group to a new level, and he’s promised to show them the way, even as he recommits to fulfilling his beautiful submissive wife’s every desire. Only this time, uncovering her sexual limits may also expose their relationship to more conflict than it can withstand.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: THE EXHIBITIONIST is the sixth full length installment in Tara Sue Me’s contemporary, adult The Submissive erotic, romance BDSM series. The Exhibitionist is Abby and Nathaniel’s continuing story: Abby is Nathaniel’s wife, submissive and the mother of his two young children, but their D/s relationship has become predictable, and Nathaniel is hoping to spice up their life. When Nathaniel crosses a line, pushing Abby and himself beyond their comfort zones, the couple’s relationship takes a hit both in and out of the bedroom.

THE EXHIBITIONIST is a sexually graphic storyline with scenes of M/F/M, bondage, whipping, caning, spanking, punishment, multiples and more: nothing is off –limits between consenting adults but there are times when a fine-line is crossed; when safe words have to be used; when participants are physically and emotionally hurt. Our leading couple find themselves pushing the line as Nathaniel struggles with Abby’s need to be watched, and his desire for a possible third party involved.

The ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters follows the potential for a new D/s relationship between Cole and the beautiful but damaged Sasha. Sasha had been physically and emotionally hurt by a previous Dom, and in this she is having a difficult time returning to the lifestyle she one loved. Julie and Daniel return (Seduced by Fire) as well as Dena and Jeff’s whose own life is about to get very busy.

The world building continues to focus on the BDSM lifestyle; the participants and the couples who fall in love.

THE EXHIBITIONIST is a story of erotica. For anyone offended by the BDSM lifestyle, this may not be your type of read especially when boundaries are pushed; limits are tested; lines are crossed. The premise is intense; the characters are impassioned; the happily ever after continues.

excerpt

The smell of lust filled the room. In fact, the sexual tension was so high I would bet most of the women present longed to be in the place of the lovely redhead. Currently standing in front of Cole Johnson, the Partners in Play group’s newest senior Dominant, the petite woman trembled slightly. Although she was fully clothed, she displayed a vulnerability I was all too familiar with.
“Daniel told me she’s been having difficulties focusing,” my husband and Dominant, Nathaniel, said. We were at a play party being held at a private residence. He stood behind me, and though we were somewhat removed from the group, he still whispered. “He said he hopes the session with Cole will help.”
“With everyone watching?” I asked. “That seems unlikely.”
“I guess we’ll see.”
We couldn’t hear Cole’s voice; he spoke too softly. The submissive’s gaze drifted from him to the watching crowd. Bad move. Quick as a lightning strike, Cole grabbed her chin and forced her to meet his eyes.
“On me,” he said, the threat in his voice noticeable before it dropped back down to a whisper.
“Perhaps he believes if she can focus while in the middle of a crowd, she can focus during anything,” Nathaniel said.
There was probably some truth to that. The submissive certainly didn’t appear to be tempted to look our way again. Then again, Cole had placed his hands on her shoulders and started a slow stroke up and down her arms. All the while, he kept his eyes locked on hers. I doubted there were many women who would be able to think about anything else if he was looking at them like that.
After a few minutes, he stepped back and spoke to her again. “As far as you’re concerned, you and I are the only people
in this room. Understand?”
She answered with a softly spoken “Yes, Sir.”
“Louder,” he said. “Own your words.”
“Yes, Sir,” she repeated, this time with more confidence.
“You are to keep your eyes on mine the entire time we’re together unless I tell you to do otherwise.”
“Yes, Sir.”
“What’s your safe word?” Cole asked.
“Red, Sir.”
“Thank you. Take your shirt off.”
Her gaze briefly flickered to the floor.
“That’s one, sub,” Cole said, and she sucked in a breath. “Tell me what you did.”
“I looked at the floor, Sir.”
“And what were you supposed to do?”
“Keep my eyes on yours.”
Cole nodded. “Take your shirt off the proper way.”
This time, she kept her focus on him while she unbuttoned and slid the shirt off her shoulders. It fluttered to the floor.
“Very nice,” Cole said. “Now remove your bra.”
I wasn’t a Dominant by any stretch, but I’d been an active submissive for long enough to know and recognize hesitation. Hell, I’d done it often enough myself, but I always learned something new when I was an observer. It was certainly interesting seeing things from a different prospective.
Cole took a step toward her. “On the checklist you filled out, how do you have public nudity listed?”
“As won’t object, Sir.”
“And how else am I to interpret your hesitation as anything other than objecting?”
“I don’t know, Sir.”
“That’s because there is no other way. That’s two. Now remove the bra.”
She quickly reached behind her back to unsnap her bra, but my own focus was suddenly shifted to my husband’s two hands, which were unbuttoning my shirt.
His voice was rough in my ear while his fingers stroked my breasts. “You like watching, don’t you?”
“Especially with you teasing me like that with your hands, Master.”
“You like teasing?” he asked.
I realized what I’d said and how he’d probably interpret my words. “Uh, well . . .”
He chuckled. “Too late. I’m going to thoroughly enjoy teasing you tonight, but for right now, watch Master Johnson.”

Viking Warrior Rising (Viking Warriors #1) by Asa Maria Bradley-a review

Immortal Vikings are among us.

Leif Skarsganger and his elite band of immortal warriors have been charged to protect humanity from the evil Norse god Loki.

Under attack from Loki’s minions, Leif is shocked to encounter a dark-haired beauty who fights like a warrior herself. Wounded and feverish, the Viking kisses her, inadvertently triggering an ancient Norse bond. But when Naya Brisbane breaks away and disappears before the bond is completed, Leif’s warrior spirit goes berserk. If Leif doesn’t find her fast, he’s going to lose himself to permanent battle fury.

But Naya doesn’t want to be found…and he’ll do anything to find her. Because they’re both running out of time.

REVIEW

4 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Viking Warrior Rising by Asa Maria Bradley is the first book in a new paranormal romance called “Viking Warriors” Following the common formula of a team of warriors vs villains, with a big dash of yummy romance, I have to say that I really enjoyed this book.

Leif Skarsganger is the king of an elite crew of viking warriors that are constantly in battle with the evil god Loki. Each warrior has been specially selected and enhanced by the good god Odin. Always ready to fight, these warriors are lethal and mean business. Leif’s inner beserker is constantly restless and fighting to get out. Knowing his grip of control is slipping, Leif goes out to feed off human energy. While feeding, Leif is severely attacked. His time is almost up when a small female warrior comes out of no where and saves his life.

Naya Brisbane has been on the run for quite some time. Having been imprisoned in a lab that has altered her strength among other things, it is her instincts and need to survive that keep her thriving. When she happens upon a man getting his butt kicked she reluctantly decides to intervene. Little does she know that this intervention is about to change her entire future. It starts with one brief kiss.

Having launched a mating bond, Leif decides that he is going to claim his mate. Naya admits her attraction but she knows she is in no position to surrender to Leif. Both are completely stubborn, keep secrets and seem to always require to save the other. Despite giving in to the attraction, Naya feels that a major secret she is keeping will destroy any bond between her and Leif. Trying to protect herself and her brother from the lab that created them, it is suddenly her heart that can bring everything crashing down. Leif’s beserker is getting more violent and it appears that Naya is the only way to calm it. All Leif has to do is properly seduce Naya to make her his queen.

I love the introduction of new group of warriors. Similar to the gritty BDB series it is clear to see that her next books will be full of love, battle and adventure. I love the twist of the viking gods that is the baseline of this entire story. Asa’s use of mythology really adds dimension. Full of fighting, attraction, good and evil, and a splash of humour, I will most definitely be looking forward to the next in this awesome series.

HAPPY READING! 🙂
