ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 19, 2016

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.

Lydia Green doesn’t know whether to burn down the church or sit and cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it’s with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.

Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she’d marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he’s all wrong-maybe it’s time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what’s wrong with getting dirty?

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW:   DIRTY is the first installment in Kylie Scott’s contemporary, adult DIVE BAR rocker, romance series- a spin off from her popular Stage Dive series. This is musician/bartender Vaughan Hewson, and real estate agent Lydia Green’s story line. You do not have to have read the original series to understand or follow DIRTY.

Told from first person point of view (Lydia) DIRTY follows Lydia- a runaway bride- who finds herself hiding in Vaughan Hewson’s tub. On her wedding day, Lydia is sent a video of her soon to be husband sexing it up with his best man, and instead of confronting the man she is about to marry, Lydia tucks tail and runs for the hills. Only Lydia doesn’t get too far, and breaks into the neighbor’s house where she comes face to face with the ‘prettiest’ man she has ever met. Enter Vaughn Hewson-home owner- and the man who would make all of Lydia’s dreams come true.

The Dive Bar is the local bar where friends meet, musicians play, and all around chaos ensues. Vaughn’s sister Nell is the co-owner of The Dive Bar, and is currently hoping for a quick infusion of cash but Vaughn’s band split when the lead vocalist went solo, and Vaughn isn’t in any position to help out his sister. What ensues is the building relationship between Vaughn and Lydia, and their interim positions working at Nell’s Dive Bar.

DIVE BAR has a large ensemble of secondary and supporting characters including Vaughn’s sister Nell, her ex husband and tattoo artist Pat, as well as Nell’s staff of Andre, Joe, Masa and Eric. Eric is a piece of work-a manwhore who has found his way into his boss’s pant. Mal Ericson (Stage Dive) makes an appearance allowing for many swoon worthy moments and several sighs.

There is quite a bit of humorous banter as per Kylie Scott’s writing style as well as a number of heartbreaking scenarios when Lydia and Vaughn place an expiry date on their relationship.

The world building focuses on The Dive Bar-the people, the atmosphere, the behind the scenes affairs and $ex lives. The story line is fast paced, and smooth flowing. The sexual tension between Lydia and Vaughn is heightened by the playful sexual banter between our couple.

DIRTY is a sexy read with lighthearted humor, and fascinating characters. The premise is spirited and oft times melodramatic; the characters are animated, colorful, hopeful and intense; the romance is a quick build to a happily ever after. Kylie Scott adds another dimension to her rock romance series with a look at the people a The Dive Bar.

“Once upon a time,” he began, voice low and measured. “There was a princess. A beautiful, occasionally annoying princess.”

“What was her name?”

“Ah, Notlydia.”

I frowned. “Her name is Notlydia?”

“You wanted a story, I’m giving you one. Shut up.”

“Whatever.”

An even heavier sigh from the man. “Anyhoo, Notlydia was all set up to marry this prince. We’ll call him Prince Bag of Dicks.”

“Works for me.”

“But on the day of her wedding, when she was wearing this sweet dress that served her tits up like they were a fucking platter—”

“Is this an R-rated story?”

“Please,” he said, sliding an arm around my bare waist. And I let him. “R is for rubbish. If you don’t get to see any penetration then you’re wasting your time. This is XXX.”

I laughed.

“So on the day of her wedding to Prince Bag of Dicks, Notlydia kisses him and he turns into a big slimy two-headed toad with terrible breath and even worse foot odor.”

“Whoa.” I rested my head back against his shoulder. “Poor Notlydia.”

“Hell of a plot twist, right?”

“Never saw that one coming.”

“Mm.” He rested his cheek against the top of my head.

“What happens next?”

“Well, she’s completely freaked out, of course.”

“Of course.”

“And she takes off into the woods. She’s running through bushes, jumping fences, climbing trees, you name it. Nothing’s going to stop her from getting the hell away from that toad, Prince Bag of

Dicks.” He took a sip of beer. “Unfortunately, she loses her fancy dress along the way. She’s just down to some skimpy underwear and a corset and with all that jogging through the forest, it’s barely holding her in. One decent breath and there’s going to be nipple out there for all the world to see.

Did I happen to mention she’d been voted Best Rack in the kingdom four years running? Anyway, eventually she finds this small cottage. Now, what you don’t know about Notlydia is that she has a shady past.”I tried to look up at him. But with the angle, all I got was stubble and cheekbone. “That doesn’t sound like Notlydia.”

“Be quiet.” A hand covered my mouth. “Notlydia’s a dirty, dirty girl. Got a bad side like you wouldn’t believe. A little breaking and entering is nothing to her. So into the house she goes. But she’s all muddy from running through the woods, see? She can’t let people see her like this, she’s a princess, for fuck’s sake.”

The hand remained over my mouth. Which was fine, I had nothing to add to his pornographic fairy tale.

“Notlydia gets in the shower and starts soaping herself. There’s lots of bubbles and steam, and she’s a modern woman so there’s a bit of self-love. She even finds time to wash her hair, shave under her pits. Things like that. But then the owner of the cottage wakes up and hears the water running. He stomps into the bathroom saying, someone’s using up my hot water. Notlydia cries out, not me, not me.”

He craned his neck, meeting my gaze. “See, babe, what did I tell you? That Notlydia is a filthy little liar.”

I looked up to heaven. No help was forthcoming.

“Someone’s using up all my soap, says the owner. Not me, not me, cries Notlydia.” He put his lips next to my ear. “She should be ashamed of herself, shouldn’t she? If ever a busty princess deserved a spanking.”

I bit at the palm of his hand, teeth catching at the fleshy mound beneath his thumb.

“Ow.” He laughed, pulling his hand free. “Then the owner said, someone’s been fingering herself in my shower.”

“Stop!” I put my hands over my ears, trying desperately to hold in my laughter. “This is the worst story ever. The Brothers Grimm are rolling over in their graves.”

“Notlydia throws back the shower curtain and says, oh yeah, big boy, that was me. Come and get it. And they have wild sex all over the cottage.” Vaughan’s body jerked beneath mine as he laughed his ass off. “The end.”

“No way. Notlydia is virtuous and pure. She’d never pull that sort of shit.”

“Nah.” He chuckled. “It all happened exactly as I said. Dirtiest princess in all the land.”

“Like hell. The owner of that cottage was a pervert and a deviant. Why, he would have picked the lock on a chastity belt. She never stood a chance.” Difficult to maintain my pious stance, given I’d started laughing so hard tears were pouring down my cheeks. The funny bastard. “I want to know more about this cottage owner. What’s his name?”

“I don’t know. Let me think . . .” He rested his chin back on top of my head. “He definitely isn’t Prince Charming.”

“He could be!”

Silence.

“If he wanted to. Or not. Whatever,” I added weakly. Crap. “Let’s go back to not talking.”

I was a moron.

We’d been all relaxed and laughing. Me and my idiot mouth. Way to go, Lydia. Just shout out any old impossible daydream to the dude who’s made it clear there was no future “we.” If someone could just direct me to the nearest brick wall, I’d knock a little sense into myself. On the other hand, it was two stupid words. Surely he could have ignored the last hundred years of Disney perpetuating slick-haired young royals gallivanting around the countryside saving hot babes in distress. For the sake of getting along. God knows, Chris never had any problems ignoring or placating me. I’d seen his thoughtless gorgeous smile aimed my way a hundred times. No, a thousand. If only I’d recognized it for what it was.

Ugh. Just the thought of it made me want to punch the douche all over again.

Maybe I needed a bit more than a week to get over that catastrophe. The money would help. Substantially. I’d never imagined that compromising my morals and taking hush money from such foul woe-begotten assholes would feel so good. Maybe I should sell out more often.

“This, ah, this Prince Charming of yours,” he said haltingly.

“Yes?”

Vaughan shifted beneath me, pushing out a heavy breath. “I mean, it doesn’t make sense, does it? Why would he be in a cottage instead of a castle?”

“Well . . . his parents, the king and queen of the neighboring kingdom, died in a terrible accident.”

I stayed perfectly still, waiting to see how he’d react.

“I see.”

“And it hurt him so bad he just, he didn’t want to be a prince anymore.”

Nothing from him.

“Bad things happen in fairy tales sometimes.”

A grunt.

“It’s not fair, but it happens,” I said, feeling my way with more caution than skill. “The prince loved his parents and the castle had too many memories.”

“Hmm.”

“So he ran away into the woods too.”

“Doesn’t sound like much of a prince if he can’t handle his shit,” he said.

“Princes are just men too, human beings. I don’t think a crown or a penis gives you magical invulnerability to loss and pain.” I stared at the wall, thinking the problem through. “Life is hard.

Terrible things happen. We all have feelings. We’re all just flesh and blood, trying to do our best.”

“Running away from problems isn’t doing your best.” His voice echoed around the small room, the same as around in my head.

What with holding the Coeur d’Alene title for runaway bride of the year, I had no answer. None at all. So much for my half-assed wisdom.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 15, 2016

For years, Luke Elliot has been a respectable businessman. But he’s also had a secret life no one knows, and he’s given that up to settle down completely. But when his world is torn apart by tragedy, he flees in despair from all that could evoke painful memories for a fresh start in another part of the country. And there he meets the beautiful and mysterious Jessica Morrow, who is also trying to escape from a past she can’t face. As they become close, and Luke finally discovers what her backstory is, he realizes their fateful meeting could end up getting both of them killed. Paths that began in Chicago and San Diego, with stops along the way in Santa Fe and Philadelphia, converge in Seattle, where a deadly cat-and-mouse game ensues, forcing Luke to call upon his lethal skills once more to save himself and the woman he loves.

••••••

REVIEW:  HOW LITTLE WE KNOW by John L.DeBoer is a contemporary, adult suspense story line that focuses on former hitman Luke Elliott, and Jessica Morrow, a woman on the run from an abusive ex, but a woman in hiding from a boss with close connections to the mob. The reader was first introduced to Luke in John’s lsat release SKELETON RUN. Seattle seemed like a good place to settle down and get on with her life when Jessica meets pizzeria owner Luke Elliott, whose business partner is too close to Jessica’s past. When the mob discovers Jessica’s location, the truth about her past will have to be revealed when more than one person is looking to take Jessica down.

HOW LITTLE WE KNOW is a story of mystery and suspense, intrigue and duplicity, secrets and lies. Jessica is a woman whose past is mired in abuse, murder, and ten years hiding from the police and local authorities. Luke Elliott is a former sniper in the military; a former hitman for hire; and a businessman who wants nothing better than to settle down with his pizzeria and a beautiful woman in his arms. When Jessica’s life is threatened, Luke finds himself, once again, on the frontlines trying to protect the people he loves.

The world building focuses on starting a new life, far from the threats and memories of the past. We learn a little bit about Jessica’s former life, and a little bit of Luke’s recent past. There is a larger focus on the hunt for Jessica Morrow-the woman, the men and the mob who are all trying to find Jessica-one way or another.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including several members of the criminal underground, guns for hire, the US Marshal’s office, undercover investigators, and employees of the WITSEC program-the US federal witness protection program. It is here where the story line gets muddy and slightly unbelievable when our heroine’s cover is blown –not once, but twice-and yet she is willing to remain in the same location, with the same name, without any extended coverage, plans to relocate or notify the people in charge. Jessica’s lack of worry and alarm are disconcerting. Not only has her past come back from the dead but the mob wants to silence our story line heroine as well.

John L. DeBoer takes the reader on an intense ride of family secrets and dangerous lies-where one woman struggles to escape from her past only to come face to face with a threat more perilous and dark. The premise is intriguing and gripping; the characters are charismatic, colorful and compelling; the suspense is dramatic and bold.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 19, 2016

Lee Delgado never planned on falling in love with the irresistible Oliver Savoca, son of a Chicago crime lord. Considering that their families are rivals, she knew it could never work. And now that both their fathers have been nabbed on racketeering charges, any real chance at a future with the man she loves has been shot to hell. But a greater blow is yet to come.

Not only does Lee learn that a contract is out on her life, she has reason to believe that Oliver is behind the devastating betrayal. Now she’s working closely—very closely—with Federal Agent Wes Buchanan to help bring her man down. But however she’s come to feel about Callahan, Lee is still deeply, hopelessly, unabashedly in love with Oliver.

Where that fearless love takes Lee next is beyond her control—but the risk is worth every beat of her heart.

•••••••

REVIEW: OVER THE LINE is the second installment in Lisa Desrochers contemporary, adult ON THE RUN romantic suspense series focusing on the Delgado (aka Davidson) siblings. This is Lee Delgado, and Oliver Savoca’s story line. OVER THE LINE can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and history.

SOME BACKGROUND: Lisa Desrochers ON THE RUN series focuses on the once powerful and rich Delgado family-five siblings, in witness protection, whose father, currently in jail, is the head of one of the most powerful crime families in Chicago. After an attack that was intended to kill the family, the Delgado children –ages 9 to 25 years-are relocated to Florida with a new identity while their father continues to control things behind bars.

Told from alternating first person points of view (Lee and Oliver) OVER THE LINE follows the rekindling of a forbidden relationship between Lee Delgado and Oliver Savoca. The Delgado and Savoca families are rivals in the Chicago underground crime scene, and part of the reason the Delgado family is now in the Witness Protection program-far away from their father’s rival and the syndicate he runs. When Oliver Savoca locates the woman who stole more than his heart, the Delgado family find themselves preparing to run once again.

OVER THE LINE is a story line told using memories from the past and present day focusing on the previous relationship between Lee and Oliver; their need to uncover family secrets, to destroy one another’s lives, and a love that has never faltered between two college sweethearts. As Oliver finds himself facing down his potential future, the Delgado family faces a choice no one wants to make. Lee has something that Oliver needs to stay alive, but Lee isn’t willing to place her family in the direct line of fire-again.

The relationship between Lee and Oliver, both past and present, should never have happened, or been allowed. Oliver’s position and re-entry into the Delgado’s lives has placed everyone in danger, and Lee is more than willing to give Oliver a second chance even if it means losing her family in the process. I have to question some of the irresponsible actions of the story line heroine that made for some problematic moments and potentially controversial situations for her and her family-she is a woman whose earlier actions may have resulted in the present danger they are now facing….. but as I have said before, the story is meant to entertain, and I was ….entertained.

All of the previous story line characters, including the Delgado siblings, play a secondary and supporting role throughout. I am still having some issues with the eldest sibling Rob, and his treatment of his girlfriend Adri (Outside the Lines #1). Rob is so fixated on keeping the Delgado family safe, that Adri is constantly on the outside looking in, and the first to be thrown to the curb when something goes wrong.

OVER THE LINE is a slow build as Oliver and Lee find themselves fighting the push and pull of their earlier love. There is a slight ‘love triangle’ developing that our heroine continues to perpetuate throughout the story line, and this is problematic on so many levels. The world building continues to focus on the Delgado siblings, and their new lives in in the Witness Protection program. The premise is entertaining and impassioned; the characters are colorful and intense; the romance is passionate and hopeful. OVER THE LINE is an enjoyable and suspense filled read.

excerpt

I want Lee to know, no matter where she goes, I will find her.
At the thought of her betrayal, rage rises up and wraps like an iron cloak around my heart, threatening to crush any bit of humanity left there. I close my eyes and hold my breath until it passes.
And I see her as she was before everything that came after—that first day of business law class at Kellogg, nearly two years ago.
She was starting her first year. I was in my second. I was already seated near Angela Bagglio, who I had a passing interest in due to her loose family ties to the Delgado organization. Her brother was a wiseguy wannabe, little more than a glorified gofer within the Delgado machine. But I’d discovered, sometimes it was the smallest details that led to the largest victories.
When Lee Delgado sashayed into the classroom, I’d like to say I was unaffected. I’d like to believe I was in complete control of everything that happened then and after.
But I’d be kidding myself.
Her bright hazel eyes surveyed the room, and when they caught for a second as they passed over me, I felt a shift in gravity itself. There were times reading nuances in expressions and actions was all that came between me and a slug in my head. That hitch in her perusal of the room left no doubt she was aware who I was.
From that second on, I was helpless to take my eyes off her.
Her sandy brown waves cascaded over the shoulders of her cream-colored silk blouse to an open collar that hung loose, revealing a hint of cleavage. Her burgundy pencil skirt hugged the round curves of her hips and ass and ended above the knee, giving me a glimpse of a pair of toned thighs and calves. She had a killer body and knew it. I had to respect a woman who knew her strengths and wasn’t afraid to use them to her advantage.
She took a seat in my row, but on the opposite side of the classroom. I was barely coherent when the professor started lecturing. I couldn’t tell you the first thing he said.
As she listened, she lifted a hand and combed through her waves with her fingers, separating out a strand and twirling it around her finger. A rush shuddered from my tailbone up my spine to my brain, and even though I had no clue why, that was the moment I knew I wasn’t going to be able to stay away.
The rest, as they say, is history.
If she thinks she can hide from me, she’s got another thing coming.
Mob controlled gambling has always been a huge racket, with better payouts because we don’t pay taxes like the legal betting sites. Back in the day, bookies were involved and actual cash changed hands. Now nearly everything is electronic. Bets are collected directly from our clients’ online accounts and payouts are distributed back into them. Payout is calculated after each event based on outcome versus the spread. It’s one of the parts of my job that I truly enjoy. I’m always in the program, tweaking and modifying. But, suddenly, the week before Christmas, two days after Lee and I returned from our weekend in Aspen, I noticed the spread didn’t factor anymore and our payouts went through the roof. I thought maybe I’d screwed something up and tried to get into the program to check it. Ended up throwing my laptop against the wall when my pass code wouldn’t get me in.
It took me the next two days, and the fact that Lee wasn’t answering my texts or calls, to put together what had happened. Though I’m not sure exactly how she managed it, I know it had to have been her who hacked into my program and changed the payout ratios. I’ve looked at it from every angle and there are no other feasible possibilities. And it makes sense. I had an ulterior motive when we started hooking up, and I had no doubt she had one of her own. But as we got deeper into each other, things shifted and I lost focus. I let down my guard and gave her too much, and she took advantage of the opening.
I knew I wouldn’t be seeing her over the holidays because her siblings were all coming back to the family home in Wilmette, just outside of Chicago, for Christmas. It took me another day to decide I had no choice but to go there.
But when I got to the house, the place was swarming with cops and Feds, and yellow police tape was strung across the pillars at the front door. The reports the next day said it was believed the Delgados had fled to Europe after a “gangland style attack” on their home.
The online gambling leg of our business has been bleeding cash at the rate of nearly a hundred grand a month since Lee fucked with the program. Every month it gets worse as word spreads of our big payouts. The guy who designed and encrypted the program is dead; a casualty of my father’s wrath when he made the mistake of telling Victor he’d corrected a system glitch that had cost us a couple hundred grand over the first year of implementation. I’ve done everything I can to break Lee’s pass code, but considering the illegal nature of the account, and the fact that I couldn’t enlist anyone who might report back to Victor what happened, my resources to resolve the issue have been severely limited.
So I put my time and energy into another avenue. Finding Lee.
Like everyone else in Chicago, I assumed that my father was responsible for the contract on Lee and her family. I talked to his guys. Tried to see if any of them had a bead on the Delgados’ location. I couldn’t find anyone who was even looking.
So, as much as I dreaded it, I went straight to the source.
I was dead to my father. He’d made that clear. But that day, for the first time since I’d crossed him, Victor looked at me with pride in his eyes when he asked, “You purchase that special delivery for our friends up in Wilmette?”
And that’s when I knew it wasn’t us. It’s also when I knew I was a dead man unless I could find a way out of this mess on my own.
So I looked harder for Lee, dug a little deeper into the Delgado family tree. I didn’t find her, but I managed to stumble on some other useful information during my search. And then, finally, the stroke of luck that led me here: Rob showing up in Chicago.
I’ve been able to keep everything under the rug since she left, but underground betting has always been the Savoca business’s bread and butter. If Victor or anyone else in the organization discovers the hemorrhage of cash that our gambling ring has become, it’s my head my loving pop will want on a spike.
I told the guys I had some personal business in Vegas; gave Al a direct order to park his ass at my apartment and not to move until I got back. I took a flight to Vegas, and from there, traveled to Florida on an ID I pinched off of a guy we rolled in Little Italy for not making book. He’s dead now, courtesy of Al, so he won’t be divulging my alter ego to anyone.
My family doesn’t know this particular alias. They’d have a hard time tracking me. Once I find Lee, things should move pretty fast. But I have to find her first.
So here I am.

Fear Dreams

About the book: Release Date March 28, 2016

Liddy Barron, an artist, was injured in a hit-and-run accident that left her with recurring nightmares, gaps in her memory, and an increasing obsession in the disappearance of a coed named Sasha Perry. Insecure and nervous, Liddy’s turmoil grows as she begins seeing ghostly images. Her husband Paul tries to help but suspects it’s just her imagination…while intuitive Detective Kerri Blasco, also obsessed with young Sasha’s disappearance, senses that Liddy may have a key to solving the case, and tries to unravel the shocking truth of what really haunts her.

Review:

Fear Dreams begins with Liddy trying to get back to a normal life after a devastating accident that left her both physically and emotionally damaged. As she turns to her art to help her cope, she mysteriously sketches a young woman, whom she’s sure she’s never met, but is almost compelled to do so. As her dreams become more prevalent, so much so that she starts to question everything, she goes to Detective Kerri Blasco. (Kerri is a character Schneider’s readers are familiar with that is a prominent character in Schneider’s Embryo series) Upon seeing the sketch and listening to Liddy, Kerry starts to believe that Liddy may hold a missing key that she has no idea she holds.

Once they start down the path of trying to figure everything out and piece things together, they have no idea what’s ahead of them. Does Liddy indeed hold the key, or are her dreams just that… fear dreams?

Fear Dreams is another suspenseful story by J.A. Schneider that will keep you guessing until the end. She has always done a great job with the twists and turns in her books, and this is no exception. If you’re looking for a quick read full of twists and turns and nicely developed characters, you cannot go wrong with one of Schneider’s books. Well done, J.A. Schneider!

The One That Got AwayAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo/ BAM

Description:
How far will one man go for the woman he’s loved since high school?

Jamie Kingston has been Brynn Chandler’s best friend since middle school. Only once was their friendship tested—when Brynn gave Jamie a single kiss. Since then, they’ve had an unspoken agreement never to cross that line again, and she’s ready to let go of the past and move on.

But Jamie has loved Brynn for as long as he can remember, and now that he’s ready to tell her, she has her sights set on someone else. Knowing this is his last chance, he asks Brynn to go on a two-week road trip. But their time alone brings old hurts to the surface, and Brynn has to decide if the one that got away lies at the end of the journey or if he’s been by her side all along.

Review:

The One That Got Away is book one in the Kingston Ale House series by A. J. Pine.  As high schoolers Brynn Chandler and Jamie Kingston were best friends.  Brynn has her sights set on kissing senior star athlete Spencer Matthews.  Her chance is going to come at a graduation party the following night.  But things didn’t work out as she had planned.  Brynn came down with a case of mono and all her high school dreams are crushed.  But coming to her rescue is her best friend, Jamie Kingston.  He stays with her that night while her parents are out of town and nurses her back to health.   In her time of recovery— she realizes that Jamie has always been there for her, and she risks it all to kiss him.  But Jamie who has long loved her completely and totally isn’t in a good place.  His parents are divorcing and he is sure that any relationship he pursues with Brynn will end in disaster and ruin their friendship.

Flash forward ten years and Brynn and Jamie are still best friends.  Jamie still secretly loves her, and Brynn feels the same about him.  But Brynn is currently single and Jamie is in a stable relationship even though it isn’t with the one he wants.  Their high school reunion is coming around and Brynn is bound and determined to not let this reunion go by without trying to kiss her high school crush Spencer.  It’s the night of the reunion and Brynn is seeking out Spencer.  Jamie realizes that Brynn is the one he wants and goes and breaks up with his girlfriend.  Brynn sees  Spencer and even gets some alone time with him—even almost kisses him.  But Jamie rushed in—all prepared to tell her he is in love with her and catches them together.  No kiss yet again!  Spencer is now an author and invites Brynn to California for his book launch.  Jamie knows that in order to have her he must let her try with Spencer.  Jamie now owns Kingston’s Ale House and has an opportunity to drive to California for a beer thing so he invites Brynn along with the hopes of convincing her that its he she loves and not Spencer.  Even going so far as delivering Brynn into the arms of Spencer.

What ensues is a cross country road trip that is filled with ups and downs and loads of adventures.  Jamie has ended his relationship in the hopes of winning Brynn over—but he hasn’t quite told her that part yet.  And even though they were never allowed to discuss it Brynn has been crazy in love with Jamie since the night they kissed.  But his rejection of her still hits her in the feels.  She wants to tell him how she feels about him but is in no way ready for another rejection.

This is one of the best road trip books I have ever read.  I loved the relationship of Brynn and Jamie and wanted nothing more than for the two of them to find each other and figure out how the other feels.

Hilarious adventures happen and wonderful memories are made.  But will they be enough to convince Brynn to follow her heart and tell Jamie how she feels.  Will it be enough for her to see Spencer, even kiss him maybe and make the right choice.

Brynn was a wonderful character with a stubborn mind of her own.  She is tripping over her own self.  She loves Jamie but is so afraid of rejection—because Jamie is in a relationship now.  Rejection isn’t anything she is prepared to deal with.  She is funny and good natured—most of the time.  Her relationship with her sister is funny from the moment you open the book.

Jamie is an amazing best friend who everyone in the world can see loves Brynn but her.   The friendship is amazing and their rhetoric with each other is wonderful and hilarious.  The story unwinds as the road trip continues, and from memories of high school slowly evolves into an amazing love story.  If you ever had a best friend that you had a crush on—this is the book for you.

Wonderfully romantic and hilariously funny.

Description:
They call themselves the Fae Rii, or Fair Traders. Elfin-like beings capable of wielding sophisticated forms of magic, they travel between universes exploring new worlds and establishing settlements for their people to live peacefully among the locals.

The humans of the White Sands tribe, refugees fleeing from powerful enemies, see the Fae as potential invaders stealing their newfound natural resources. Jintaya, the leader of the Fae travelers, manages to forge an alliance, promising to trade skills and knowledge—magical and otherwise—to build a lasting community.

But the Circle Fire Tribe has no desire to share those rich valleys and ravines with the people they’ve hunted to near extinction—or the supposed deities they worship…

Review:

Dawn of the Flame Sea by Jean Johnson is the 1st book in her new fantasy series, Flame Seas.  This is my first book by Jean Johnson, and I wasn’t sure what to expect in this different type of fantasy novel.  I will say that when I finished this book, I was hooked into this new world building of Johnson’s creation.

Dawn of the Flame Sea begins as a group of Fae’s known as Fae Rii, who are Fair Traders that explore the different worlds that they can find and make them habitual for other Fae’s to eventually live, intermingling with the human locals.   The Fae Rii leader, Jintaya is our heroine, though this is ensemble storyline.  Jintaya is a healer, with very powerful Fae magic; and though strong and tough, she is kind, calm, and reasonable.   She arrives in this land with her team of fellow fae, who each have magic to create a wonderful home in a deserted area.

The White Sands tribe are humans, who have been trying to find a place to live with water and food to hunt, as well as escape an evil tribe that is out to slave them.  The leader of the tribe, Hajek, is injured, but must meet with this new group that has claimed the area they had hoped to live in.  At first they feel threatened by these unusual people, who they watched from afar create with powerful magic livable homes, and other creations; such as water fountains,  within the caves and land. When Jintaya heals Hajek, the tribe slowly begins to trust the fae and will accept their rules, as it gives them a place to call home, in a wonderful environment that the Fae Rii have created.

With Jintaya leading the way, we get to see the two groups come together as one, as the land grows bigger, enabling many to have their own homes. Soon they will become known as the tribe of the Flame Sea, and the fae will be known as the Pantheon of the Flame Sea.

This was a slow build story, as we get to know many characters of both groups, and how they all learn to live together.  Mixed race (human/fae) children will be born, and much of the two customs will blend together.   It will also be exciting, as Jintaya and eventually her warrior, Ban must face an evil tribe that followed the White Sands tribe to capture them and slave them.  To say too much more will be spoilers.  Dawn of the Flame Sea was a different type of story, but in any fantasy storyline, the first book will introduce the world and its characters, which can start off somewhat slow.  However, that being said, as I kept reading, I found this fascinating and interesting.  It is very well written by Jean Johnson.  There is expected to be two more books in this trilogy, I am curious to see where she will take this next.

Interview Seafoam

Hi Jean.Thank you for taking the time to answer some questions today. We are always looking forward to reading about the author behind the book.

TRC:  Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Jean.  I’m a geek.  Flat-out nerdy geek.  I love researching science, delving into archaeology, history, bushcraft, botany, biology, you name it.  I grew up watching fantasy and science fiction, and because for a while we were living in a little patch of rurality where it was difficult to find other kids to play who were my age,  I ended up reading a lot.  Mostly fantasy and science fiction, of course, then one of my mother’s friends slipped me a Harlequin Romance ot read, and I got hooked on that genre, too. But it always comes back to how geeky I am.  I’ll do research for any and all of my stories, whether that’s tea plantations and cheese making for a romance, or trying to figure out which magnetosphere would be stronger, Earth’s or Jupiter’s, if the Earth orbited Jupiter. (It would be Jupiter’s; the Jovian magnetosphere is huge, 20,000x that of Earth!  And there, you have now learned a geeky factoid. Bwahaha, I have taught you something!)

TRC:  Have you always been interested in writing? When and how did you first start writing?

Jean.  .  To be honest, my first grade teacher despaired of me ever learning how to read, until she hit on the idea of making it a competition between me and my school friend at that time.  And then, when I realized how wonderful reading was, my other teachers always despaired, because they kept finding me reading books in class under the edge of my desk.  I made friends with the librarians, frequented libraries, the works. Then, when I was about eight years old, I read a book where I didn’t like the ending of it.  I thought to myself, “I can write a better ending than that!”  and I tried to write it…and it was crap…and I knew it was crap.  But I had fun, so I kept doing it.  When I was about fifteen, it dawned on me that writing had always been a constant in my career aspirations, so I finally started putting it first.  After that, well, it took twenty years to get good enough to get noticed by an editor and officially published.

TRC:  Dawn of the Flame Sea is the first book in your new Flame Sea series. How did you come up with the idea of this book?  Can you please tell us about the premise of this series?

Jean:.  When I saw the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the location they chose for the resting place of the Holy Grail fascinated me, and the more I learned about Petra, and the Nabateans who settled that arid region—true hydrological geniuses, they fed and watered a nation of tens of thousands on just eleven inches of rain a year—the more fascinated I became. I also had the opportunity to visit Israel several years back on a two week archaeological tour.  We never got over to see Petra, but the more I learned, the more I wondered about how people learned how to live in such a harsh climate.  I’m from the Pacific Northwest, trees and water and rain everywhere, and it’s fairly easy to grow crops.  So seeing all that desert and realizing how hard people’s lives must have been, fascinated me.  Knowing that the Bedouin continued to use those cliff-carved shelters long after the Nabatean empire fell made me wonder what it also must have been like to be surrounded by the rubble of a great empire, to grow up with all these crumbling monuments.  Would the locals take them for granted?  Would they be curious about who used to live and build there?  Would they make up stories to go alongside what little they actually knew? I didn’t first think to put elves into a desert setting.  I know it has been done before in Richard and Wendy Pini’s ElfQuest series.  But I did want to write a story about a desert empire of some sort, and after working on that project for a little while, I realized I could tie it into another universe of stories I’d been working on, and I could tie that one into a third…let’s just say I don’t write small stories.  But that second universe, it had a race of elven beings already established in it, and I realized I’d stuck those elves in a setting with abundant resources—forests and fields, plenty of rain, technological and magical advances, that sort of thing.   It made me wonder, what would happen if I took these advanced elves and stuck them in a place that wasn’t their usual sort of forested environment?  They already had a reputation in that other univese of opening portals to other worlds to trade and so forth, so…I just started weaving them into my desert kingdom storyline.  And that was when I realized I had something awesome building up, because any time you travel to a new environment, there are going to be changes in your lifestyle, with adaptations needed, and consequences of interacting with the new environment that will have to be dealt with, which gave me plenty of material for the story.

TRC:  Can you please give us a brief description of the first book, Dawn of the Flame Sea?  How many books are you planning for this series?

Jean:  Dawn of the Flame Sea follows the establishment of a trading settlement of the Fae Rii, a highly advanced race, among a tribe of primitive, Bronze Age-era humans deep in a rocky, sand-strewn desert.  The humans have enemies they need help to avoid, the elves have rules about intermingling too much, and the world itself is conspiring to affect and alter the newcomers in ways that are a tiny bit alarming.  But the Fae Rii are a patient race, living several times the typical lifespan of a human, so they are willing to wait and watch carefully. So far, there are three books that will be coming out, Dawn of the Flame Sea, Demons of the Flame Sea—which I am currently writing—and Gods of the Flame Sea.  Most of my other series are closed; they’re planned with specific first and last books in mind.  This one is more of an ongoing story.  If people like the first trilogy and want more, then I’ll happily write the next part of the story, which is the establishment of the Empire of the Flame Sea.  Eventually, that will lead up to the era of the short story “Birthright” which of course takes place at some point during the height of the Empire. I do one day hope to get around to a second story set in that era, plus other stories farther along in time.  I have a loose outline of around three thousand years of history to play with so far, plus there are other regions around this world with different cultures, lands to the south, east, north, and west that could be explored.  If people like it and want more of it, I will put it on the schedule to write it.

TRC:  You write multiple genres, such as SciFi, Fantasy, ParanormalRomance.   Which do you find the most challenging & why?

Jean:  Of the genres in which I do write…if I were to write Contemporary Romance, that would be the absolute hardest for me.  I’ve tried, but I have always wanted to throw in some sort of fantastical or futuristic element.  Second hardest would be Historical Romance.  Not because it’d be particularly difficult, but because I have far too many historical buff friends who know where I live, so if I got anything wrong…!  Oddly enough, this combination means I tend to write a lot of Paranormal and Fantasy Romance because I can incorporate the elements of a particular period in time into a story set in a fantasy world region or culture, without worrying about historical inaccuracies. Of those genres I don’t write…I think writing a children’s story would be the most difficult, because the language involved needs to be greatly simplified without “dumbing down” the way the story treats the reader.  I haven’t read or written simplified language since I started reading at the collegiate level when I was around twelve or so.  That means I’d be rusty at trying, let alone succeeding.  The last thing I’d want to do is insult any child by writing a story that comes across as condescending. Second most difficult would probably be either Contemporary (for the same reason as Romance; must put in something fantastical!) or Horror.  I’m working on my tendency to protect my characters from harm, but I doubt I’ll ever be a George R.R. Martin.

TRC:  Can you please tell us what you working on now, and what you have upcoming in 2016/2017?

Jean:  I am working on Demons of the Flame Sea, which takes place a few decades after the first book ends.  In Demons, we get to meet a new race of interdimensional visitors, the Efrijt…and unlike the Fair Traders, who believe in giving others a fair trade, they’re a bit more “deal with the devil” in how they treat others.  They’re after some very specific things, and while they will stick to the letter of any contract, they will wreack havoc with its spirit whenever and wherever they think they can get away with it.  At the same time, the Fae Rii are dealing with a crisis of a different kind, and the fallout from that will leave the settlers struggling to deal with everything. Gods of the Flame Sea picks up several years after Demons end, and in it, we’ll get to see how the Fae Rii’s attempt to deal with the Efrijt, and the Efrijt’s attempt to wrest control from the Fae Rii…well, it backfires in a rather unpleasant fashion.  Chaos will dance across the sands of the Flame Sea before that story is through. After that, I will be getting back to my paranormal romance series, Guardians of Destiny.  I still have the fourth book to write, THE TEMPLE, which will be a very racy novel involving the kink of sensation play.  Guardians is planned as another eight book series, tied into the eight book Sons of Destiny series, so I’ll have four more after that to write in that universe.  But I know a lot of readers also want more of my science fiction series—I’m calling that one the Hand of Fate universe—plus whateve InterMix readers will want next of the Flame Sea, if anything, and then there are several other universe still lurking in the wings, waiting to be explored.  Among them, a superhero universe, steampunk fantasy, science fiction romance, high fantasy set in the realm the Fae Rii come from…oodles and loads of things I could work on, easily.

TRC:  What is your writing process?  Do you like to outline your story before you start? Do you have a specific place you like to write?  Is there a special time of day that works best for you?

Jean:  .  I do a mix of things.  Mostly, I start with What-If questions, though sometimes I get ideas from trying to make sense of dreams.  When I get an idea for a story concept, I run it through my head several times, turning it over and over, looking for holes to poke at and patch over.  I will work on the characters involved, writing down notes on them and tweaking things until they speak to me as individuals with personalities…and sometimes that doesn’t happen until I put them into the actual story, but oh well. Then, either just before or within the first 10,000 words, I’ll write down various plot points on sticky notes and arrange them more or less in chronological order, to work as an outline of what will come next.  This is, of course always subject to change; one story, for a while there…for every one sticky note I removed from having been written into the story, I was putting in two more.  Other stories, I veer off in a new and much more intriguing direction, and have to trash half the sticky note points without ever incorporating them.  But I usually retain the major points along the way. I liken it to taking a road trip on Interstate 90.  Most people don’t realize it stretches from Seatte in the west to Boston in the East, and you know you have to go through Chicago at some point…but say you’re going through Montana and you see a sign advertising World’s Biggest Ball of Purple Yarn, and hey, your favorite color is purple, you love knitting, so let’s detour that way!  And then you’re gone off the main highway and are driving around on side roads and back roads for a while, exploring areas you didn’t originally think you’d visit, before finally getting back on I-90 to go the rest of the way…until you’re in the Dakotas and ooh, World’s Second Biggest Ball of Green Yarn! As for a specific place and time, at my computer in my office.  My handwriting sucketh mightily.  I might do some handwritten notes, but mostly, typing is my friend.  Time-wise, I just need blocks of uninterrupted time.  I am a natural night-owl, so I can often be found writing late into the night.  It’s quiet, nobody bothers me, it’s all good.

TRC:  When you are not writing, what other interests or hobbies do you have?

Jean:  I like to research things, do some hands-on learning… I’m not the world’s greatest swimmer, but my mother and I love going to water parks.  We also enjoy traveling together; I visited Melbourne, Australia on my own for one of the World Science Fiction Conventions few years back, but my mother has traveled with me ever since, to places like Reno, Chicago, San Antonio, London in the UK, and more.  This year, WorldCon is in Kansas City, and the next year in Helsinki, Finland; I have a friend who married a Finn and they’re living in Helsinki, so I am very much looking forward to that trip.  Mostly, though, I’m a homebody.  I had some health setbacks, and have finally gotten back to the point where I can write full time, so I’m working hard on catching up with all the stuff that’s overdue.  Once I’ve done that, I’ll get to dive into yet more research on new projects, and in general just have a fantastic time crafting stories that I want to read—no one else is writing the exact stories I want to read, which means it’s up to me to get it done—and hopefully making them interesting enough for everyone else to enjoy, too.

TRC:  Many authors have friends or family, that they bounce ideas and information back and forth.  Do you have anyone you like to discuss your story with?

Jean:  Readers have seen me mentioning several people in my Author’s Notes, but I’d like to mention a couple more at this time, and give them each a shout-out.  Not only because they’ve given me some great feedback, but also because I’ve been privileged to help out them as well. First is Stephanie Weippert, who just got a YA book published, Sweet Secrets, through TANSTAAFL Press.  We’ve been meeting to talk shop over lunch for years, discussing and helping each other on our various plot problems an d ideas.  I am very proud of her getting noticed and published. Her story Sweet Secrets is a What If that asks the question, what if cooking was a form of magic?  What if chocolate-pecan-caramel “turtles” actually came to life and started crawling around?  Or butterfly-shaped cookies that could actually fly?  And what if a stepfather, charged with watching his stepson all on his own for the very first time, saw his kid disappear right before his eyes, thanks to a culinary war between the world’s two greatest chef-mages?  I think everyone is going to love her stories. The other is K.B. Spangler, who is the artist and author of the webcomic A Girl And Her Fed.  Brook came up with a huge storyline involving political conspiracies, cyborgs, a ghostly pixie army led by Benjamin Franklin, and a superintelligent koala.  Since then, she has not only kept up the webcomic, but has written five books set in the same universe, three of which are detective novels, one of which is a thriller, and one of which is paranormal science fiction.  Her writing is superb.  She started as someone who didn’t have much in the way of professional art training, and it has evolved into what I think is an unique and fantastic style…but then again, I’m also partial to her earlier drawings.  They were very simplistic, but conveyed quite a lot of meaning all the same. The great thing about Brook’s creativity is that if you like graphic novels and comic books, she’s got a huge archive of the webcomic to go through; if you prefer prose, she’s got five whole novels to wade through, with more on the way.  She’s allowed me to take a sneak peek at her novels before they come out, and I am eagerly awaiting the sixth.

TRC:  Would you like to add anything else?

Jean:  One of the projects I’m working on concurrently with the Flame Sea and other novels is a serialized story called Cellworld.  It’s a prose story, but it’ll be released like a comic book series, with purchaseable chapter-issues every month.  Once again, a What-If question sparked the idea for the series, and that question is:  What if people from a really advanced, high tech society had to figure out how to survive on an alien world with only access to primitive tools and/or low technology?  How did they get into this situation, and what challenges will they have to face? I’ll have more details about the Cellworld series on my website, www.JeanJohnson.net, as things progress.  I can be contacted through there, as well as via Twitter, @JeanJAuthor.

LIGHTNING ROUND

Favorite Food:  Argh, it’s tough to choose just one!  …Cheese, I guess

Favorite Dessert:  Ice Cream, Coldstone Creamery

Favorite Movie:  So many movies…  Probably a comedy, like Oscar, or Clue.

Favorite TV Show:  Babylon 5.

Favorite Movie or TV Celebrity:  Patrick Steward, Lucy Lawless, many more

Dark or Milk Chocolate:  Dark, Grand Noir 85% by Michel Cluizel

Favorite literary character (not your own):  Rachel Peng, from K.B. Spangler’s detective novels.

Dog or Cat:  Absolutely cat.  I’m allergic to dogs.  At the moment, I am pestered by one cat, Kitty; her previous owner named her that, and I’m tempted to rename her Hera (she’s all-white like Ceiling Cat, but more like an Old Goddess in attitude, capricious, cantankerous, etc), but I love her all the same.   T

REVIEW: RIDE HARD is the first full-length installment in Laura Kaye’s contemporary adult RAVEN RIDERS MC erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women of Raven Riders MC. This is Club president Dare Kenyon, and Haven Randall’s story line. There is a prequel novella-HARD AS STEEL– that can be found in the 1001 Dark Nights multi authored novella series. The Raven Riders is a spin off from Laura’s Hard Ink series.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Dare and Haven) RIDE HARD follows Haven Randall, and her best friend Cora-on the run. Haven has had to endure years of abuse and neglect at the hands of her father-a small time crime lord who had plans for his only child. When Haven and Cora ran, they found themselves prisoners of the Church Gang MC, only to be rescued by the Hard Ink warriors, and finally finding asylum with the Raven Riders MC. What ensues is a building relationship between Dare and Haven, and the Raven Riders’ struggle to ensure Haven and Cora’s future safety. With an inflated price on her head, Haven becomes the number one target in a war between rival MCs.

Dare is a bit of an enigma-he is the Raven Rider Club president-a tough alpha male-who finds himself falling for the quiet and reserved Haven Randall. Haven is a woman who presents as weak, fragile and demure-her earlier years are fraught with abuse at the hands of her father and his men; she has been witness to all number of atrocities and evil. We learn a little bit about their pasts: the darkness, the damage and the heartbreaking losses. The relationship between Haven and Dare is one of immediate attraction but Dare believes their age difference is too wide to overcome, and that her presumed innocence is not for his taking. When Dare finds Haven’s ‘bucket list’ of things to do, he is the man who is going to make all of Haven’s wishes come true. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense. For someone with little experience Haven is a woman who knows how to please her man.

RIDE HARD is a slow building storyline where two women find refuge and comfort with a motorcycle club that is all about helping those who are unable to help themselves. The Raven Riders fight against abuse and neglect, and protect the woman and children who have suffered at the hands of abusive men. RIDE HARD is a bit of a vanilla MC, in that most of the violence and action takes place behind the scenes. The conflict resolution was quick-I was hoping for something more powerful and dark. There are a couple of familiar scenarios that may pay homage to Laura’s favorite author (whether intentional or not)- the similarity and resemblance to the other story line has been noted by this reader. RIDE HARD is a wonderful and exciting start to a new series.

excerpt

I’m thrilled to be celebrating the release of my 25th novel, Ride Hard, the first book in my Raven Riders Motorcycle Club series about a new kind of MC with a protective mission. You might’ve first met the Ravens in the Hard Ink world, but this series stands on its own and is even sexier, edgier, and grittier! I can’t wait for you to get to know Dare, Haven, and everyone in the Raven world! And see down below for a giveaway and a bonus story offer! I hope you enjoy this excerpt from the book!

One minute Dare was standing on the beach, trying to keep himself from giving in to Haven’s innocent playfulness. The next he was wet from forehead to knees from Haven splashing him.
She actually splashed him.His reaction was pure instinct. He took off like a shot, bolting toward her like a wild animal after its prey. Haven’s beautiful face went from uncertain to startled to amused, and on a scream and a laugh she turned and ran, her feet kicking up water as she cut through the shallows at the secluded lake’s edge.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” she yelled between laughs.

Dare just ran faster, not even caring as his boots hit the water. She didn’t have a chance in hell of outrunning him, and he wasn’t giving up the chase until he had her in his arms—and made her pay.

A burst of laughter exploded out of her as she veered back and forth, pleading words spilling haltingly from her lips. And then Dare clasped his arms around her upper body, hauled her in against him, and took them both down to the sand right at the water’s edge. He turned his body so that he took the brunt of the fall, bringing Haven down on top of him. The chase and the challenge and the closeness had him rock hard in an instant. Not surprising, since he’d been sporting a semi since she’d straddled his bike, spread her legs around him, and taken him into her arms.

“You splashed me,” he said, eyebrow arched, hand fisted around the long braid in her hair.

Wearing a grin so open and carefree that it made his chest feel suddenly too small for his heart, Haven nodded. “Oops.”

“You think that’s funny?” he asking, growing harder as she shifted her weight, making her belly grind against his hard-on.

A small gasp of recognition, and she bit down on her lip as the cast of her eyes went from playful to aroused. “A little,” she said in a breathy voice. She licked her lips. Dare couldn’t help but track the movement, and want to suck the trail of moisture she left there off the plump, pink skin.

What the fuck was he doing?

Haven’s hands gripped his shoulders, and she subtly shifted her weight again, pulling herself up his body—just a little, but enough that her lower belly now pressed and thrust against his cock. And Jesus if the need blazing out of those bright blue eyes wasn’t crystal clear.

For a split second, Dare thought of Haven’s list of things she’d never experienced, her lie of omission, the expression she’d worn on her face when he’d made her come before. And what he wanted to do ran roughshod over what he should do.

Startling a high-pitched gasp from her, Dare flipped their positions so that she lay in the soft sand and his body lay partially over hers. With his forehead against hers, he nailed her with a stare. “You sure you want to provoke me?”

She acts like she hates him, but her eyes tell a different story. Before he knows it, Blake finds himself hot for teacher, and he’s more than ready to learn all her secrets. Now all he has to do is convince her to give him a shot…without getting them both killed in the process.

••••••••

REVIEW: GRIT is the first installament in JC Valentine’s adult, contemporary SPARTAN RIDERS erotic, MC romance series focusing on the men and women of the Spartan Riders MC. This is club president Blake Mahone, and kindergarten teacher Gabby Morgan’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Blake and Gabby) GRIT follows the building relationship between Spartan Riders MC president Blake Mahone, a single father to a six year old boy Ash, and kindergarten teacher Gabby Morgan. Blake has not made a great impression on his son’s teacher-late to drop off and pick up his son on one too many occasions, Blake finds himself judged by the woman who would steal his heart. What ensues are Blake’s attempts to seduce his son’s teacher, and Gabby’s attempts to stay one step ahead of her past.

Gabby is no stranger to dark lovers who ride motorcycles, and in this our heroine is on the run from someone from her past. Blake’s ex, and the mother of his child, is a woman determined to destroy everything that Blake wants, and what Blake wants is a future with Gabby Morgan. When a former MC rival makes a re-appearance in town, Blake begins to suspect that things are about to get very personal.

The relationship between Gabby and Blake is one of immediate attraction but looks can also be deceiving when our leading couple begins to judge one another based on who they are, and what they do- a love/hate relationship between two people drawn together by a young boy whose seen rejection first hand. Blake is determined to seduce his way into Gabby’s bed, and Gabby is reluctant to find herself in bed with a student’s father. The $ex scenes are seductive, provocative and intense.

The secondary and supporting characters include several members of the Spartan Riders MC, as well as Gabby’s parents, and Blake’s vindictive ex. Blake’s adorable six year old son Ash will break your heart.

GRIT is a story that ends on a happily ever after-for now. The story line conflict has yet to be resolved, in fact, Gabby’s past is two fold, with vengeance and betrayal sought with dogged determination. The violence is limited in comparison to many other MC series, but that’s not to say that the MC lifestyle is any less dangerous or dark. The premise looks at family, friendship and betrayal. It is intoxicating, intriguing and inviting; the characters are colorful and animated; the romance is passionate and intense. JC Valentine’s GRIT is a great start to a new series you don’t want to miss.
