When Aleksandra Dimitriou is revealed as the secret daughter of Akathinia’s former king, she’s torn from her comfortable existence and thrust into the royal world…under the protection of Aristos Nicolades.

Forbidden

Aristos has orders not to touch the innocent princess, but beautiful Aleksandra calls to the rebellious urges that the self-made Greek tycoon thought he overcame long ago.

Forever?

As the heat of their desire rises, the rules begin to evaporate. It’s soon clear that the person Aristos should be protecting Aleksandra from is himself!

Review:

Claiming the Royal Innocent begins with a party at the palace that’s about to have more fireworks than they believed.  Not that Aleksandra waltzes in and announces who she is to everyone…..But she does draw the attention of one Aristos Nicolades.  Even though Aristos doesn’t consider himself and the king best friends, he knows that something is up with the beautiful woman before him.  And, oh yeah, she’s not the person whose invitation was used to enter the party.  Even though Aristos doesn’t think she’s dangerous, he knows that something is definitely up.

When Aleksandra does get her few moments with the king and tells him her story, she knows things will never be the same.  Not only is she an actual princess, but she’s attracted to the one person that she knows down to her toes that she should NOT be.  But, when war looms for Akathinia, King Nikandros asks Aristos to not only see to his new sister’s safety, but to take her his private island to keep the media at bay.  AND, he issues a warning to Aristos:  keep your hands to yourself.  Yep……

Claiming the Royal Innocent is another great story by Jennifer Hayward.  Aleksandra is as stubborn as she is beautiful and as loyal as she is fierce.  Once she sets her sights on helping Aristos open up about his past and getting his project on Akathinia sewn up, she moves heaven and earth to do so.  Aristos is your typical brooding rich guy and his backstory will make you feel for him.  But when he finally opens up to Aleksandra, you know the two  of them are perfect for each other and will be unstoppable.  Jennifer Hayward has a knack for writing the stories that you WANT to read.  There is humor, a nicely developed romance and a whole lot of hotness.  And, the best part?  They start from the very first word.  There’s no filler, just an awesome story that will keep you turning the pages.  If you’re looking for a quick and sexy read, you CANNOT go wrong with anything written by her.  Phonebooks people!!  (Which means I’d read the phonebooks if she wrote it!  Ha!)  Well done, Jennifer Hayward!  Very, very well done!!!!!

Review:

The Trouble with Nathan by Anna J. Stewart is the 3rd and final book in her wonderful Tremayne Family  series.  I am sad that this book ends the series, as I enjoyed each book very much.  What I love is when you read the previous book in a series, and you say to yourself that it was the best one and then the next book is released and even better.  The Trouble with Nathan was a fantastic read, and a fitting end to this series, though I will miss these wonderful characters created by Anna J. Stewart.

Nathan is our hero in this book, as he is determined to help his father, Jackson, who has confessed to being Nemesis, the Robin Hood burglar who steals from the wealthy.  If you have read the previous books, we know Jackson, Nathan and Sheila are in fact Nemesis, but with an enemy watching them closely, they have stopped.  Another factor is that the sister who knows nothing of Nemesis,  Morgan is planning to adopt some children, who she has taken care of from her Children’s Charity foundation, and they do not want to ruin her chances.  Jackson, their father, is aware of an old enemy who is trying to frame him of another highly valued art theft,  and confessed to be Nemesis to take the heat off of the family.  Veronica, the family lawyer, manages to clear Jackson.

Nathan takes it upon himself to find out who is framing them, and meets the head insurance investigator, Laurel  Scott.  It is an immediate attraction between the two, but Nathan wants information, and Laurel is secretly working for the villain.  We learn early on, that Laurel is being blackmailed to help Alastair (the villain) in finding all information about the Tremayne Family.  Laurel fears for the life of her young daughter.  This is a beautiful romance that will build slowly, but the suspense and excitement, not to mention spending time with this wonderful family adds to making this a great read.

Rather than revealing any spoilers, what follows is that Laurel will meet all of the Tremayne’s and begin to realize how wonderful they are, and she needs to find a way to help Nathan and protect the Tremaynes against the evil Alastair.  Laurel turned into a great heroine, as the family and the children loved her, as well as Nathan.  But Laurel has never had a family, except for her young daughter. Will Nathan be able to convince Laurel to trust him?  Will love prevail or will Laurel run?

As I noted before, Anna J. Stewart has written a fabulous end to this trilogy. I loved every moment of this story, loved everything about the Tremayne Family, loved Nathan and Laurel together.  Stewart blends a perfect romance, a suspenseful  and exciting story, and a wonderful family atmosphere.  I am already missing this family.   I suggest you start with the first book, Asking for Trouble and read the entire trilogy.  It is not to be missed.

Kellan is a beautiful distraction. When the traps of her own weakness stand in the way, Ava is faced with one choice only: peel off the layers of a man who is a wild cowboy at heart.

•••••••••

REVIEW: BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTION is the first installment in JC Reed’s new sexy, romance series focusing on the Boyd Brothers-Kellan, Cash and Ryder. This is Kellan Boyd, and journalist Ava Cross’s storyline- a love/hate relationship that looks at misunderstandings, first impressions, secrets and lies.

Told from first person point of view (Ava) BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTION focuses on the building relationship between the mysterious Kellan Boyd, and journalist Ava Cross. When Ava accidentally ‘bump’s’ into Kellan’s very new, very expensive car at the popular New York nightclub Club 69, Ava finds herself face to face with the most beautiful but arrogant human being she has ever met. Several caustic remarks later between our leading couple has Ava regretting turning down Kellan’s ‘proposal’, and Kellan wondering about the woman he just met. Fast forward two months wherein Ava has won 2 tickets to a rock concert for the group Mile High, and another ‘accident’ finds Ava and her best friend Mandy at Kellan’s front door – a secret cabin in the backwoods of Montana- and the prospect of spending too much alone time with the man who has featured in all of Ava’s dreams. What ensues is the building relationship between two people who profess to hate one another all the while hoping for a chance at something more.

The relationship between Ava and Kellan begins literally by accident. When Kellan offers to pay for Ava’s repairs, as well as a brand new car, Ava sees red and believes Kellan pities what he sees, and Ava has had enough of arrogant jerks and men. Kellan is a man who harbors many secrets and isn’t about to reveal the truth about who he is and what he does. When a second chance ‘meeting’ finds Ava front and center in Kellan’s life, our hero tries everything to seduce the woman of his most recent fantasies but when the truth is finally revealed about Kellan’s current life, Ava finds herself heartbroken once again. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive although limited in number as Ava tries to keep Kellan at a distance throughout a good portion of the story.

We are introduced to Ava’s best friend Mandy, who falls for Kellan’s friend Josh; and Ryder Boyd-Kellan’s brother and local deputy in small town Montana. The world building focuses on the building relationship between Kellan and Ava, and their struggle to accept the expiry date on what is, and what could have been in their lives. The epilogue advances the story two years where we get a glimpse into the future.

BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTION is an entertaining story; a passionate tale about two people who met by accident and found love in the wake of the storm. There are moments of heartbreak and betrayal; romance and love; secrets and letting go. The premise is engaging; the characters are heartwarming and sensitive; the romance is impassioned and hopeful. J.C.Reed invites the reader into her imaginary world of beautiful distractions, and addicting romances.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 18, 2016

Myla is beautiful, a dove with clipped wings, captive by the wolf, a vicious drug lord. One look into her eyes and Kyle could see the pain, the fear…the desperation. Or so it seems. He’s been fooled before by a woman and it cost him everything and everyone he loved. He won’t be fooled again.

Tall, dark, and deadly, these are the stories of the men who run Walker security. Each man is unique in his methods and skills, but all share key similarities. They are passionate about those they love, relentless when fighting for a cause they believe in, and all believe that no case is too hard, no danger too dark. Dedication is what they deliver, results are their reward.

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: DEEP UNDER is the first installment in Lisa Renee Jones’s adult, contemporary Walker Security romantic suspense series- a spin off from her Tall, Dark and Deadly series. This is Walker Security specialist and former FBI agent Kyle, and missing fashion designer Myla’s story line. DEEP UNDER continues a story line that began in Lisa’s BENEATH THE SECRETS serial, and runs parallel to some of the events in Lisa’s CARELESS WHISPERS series (wherein the Walker Brothers have been hired to locate another missing person) –a spin off from her best selling Inside Out series. DEEP UNDER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person points of view (Kyle and Myla) DEEP UNDER follows the search for Myla- Kara’s sister (Beneath the Secrets) and a woman who has been missing and presumed dead for fourteen months. Kyle is a former FBI agent, now working for his best friend Blake Walker at Walker Security, and a man who believes that Myla is very much alive. Kyle is desperate to get inside the Alvarez cartel and search for the woman whose last video camera image revealed determination and fear. What ensues is Kyle’s infiltration of the cartel as Myla’s personal bodyguard, and the take down of a man and his organization that has claimed too many lives, for too many years.

DEEP UNDER is an exciting story of suspense; a tale about missing women, the illegal sex trade, and a powerful cartel kingpin whose deadly rule is never to be questioned. Lisa Renee Jones writes a fascinating story with an impassioned hero, and a determined heroine where family is targeted in a game of betrayal and revenge. The premise is captivating and intense; the characters are passionate and animated; the romance is intimate and moving. Lisa Renee Jones adds another exciting and sexy dimension to her Tall, Dark and Deadly romantic suspense series.

“Who are you? And I mean really. Who are you?”
My gut tells me that if I tell her right now, in this moment, it will not be well-received. “A friend,” I say, my gaze lowering to her lush mouth and lifting. “And the man who wants to kiss you. Really kiss you. Can I kiss you, Myla?”
“You’re asking?”
“Yes. I’m asking. After all you’ve been through-”
“He hasn’t destroyed me. He hasn’t beaten me and I don’t like that you think he has.”
“I don’t think he’s beaten you.”
“He hasn’t,” she insists. “I’m not giving him that power and damn it, you better not either by treating me like I’m broken and fragile. So kiss me if you’re going to kiss me or let me go, if you don’t want-”
I cup the back of her head, and slant my mouth over hers, my tongue sliding against hers, stroking, caressing, and the taste of her, one part hunger I welcome, but the other part, the torment, I intend to drive away. I deepen the kiss, my hand pressing beneath her tank top, finding warm, soft skin. My fingers splay over her rib cage, while my mind reminds me that no matter how big she talks, she wants this escape for a reason. She has been abused, used, hurt.
I tear my mouth from hers, my breathing and hers ragged, my hands settling at her waist. “Myla-”
“Don’t do this,” she pleads, “Don’t be the kind of hero I don’t need. Give me something good to remember the next time he touches me, something that gets me through it.”
“I told you,” I grind out. “He will never touch you again.”
“You underestimate him.”
“You underestimate me,” I assure her. “You want to forget? Let’s forget.”
“Don’t treat me like-”
I tangle my fingers in her hair and drag her gaze to mine. “Is that too gentle?”
“It is until you kiss me again,” she challenges, and so I do, holding nothing back. My tongue stroking, taking, demanding, and she rewards me by giving me no fear, but rather a soft moan, and a whisper of “Kyle,” when I nip her lip.
“That’s what I want,” I say. “My name on your tongue, not his. My tongue on your body, not his.”
“That’s what I want too,” she dares, and when she adds, “very much,” there is this sense of her claiming something outside of a world she’d accepted but hated that empowers me, to help her go there, be there. I reach down and pull her tank top over her head, tossing it away. And she is not shy, timid or scared. She tugs my shirt up, but my shoulder strap and weapon, hold it in place. I’m far from detoured though, unhooking her sports bra and dragging it down her arms, my gaze raking over her high full breasts and pebbled pink nipples. And the minute our gazes collide, the fire between us ignites, and we are kissing again, my hand flattening over her back, melting her naked breasts to my chest.
She tries a new approach to getting me naked, shoving at my jacket and I shrug it over my shoulders, letting it fall to the ground, but when her hand goes for the clasp on my shoulder strap, my reaction is automatic. I grab her hand and stop her. “What are you doing?”
“I can’t get your shirt off while your gun is on,” she says, and then gives me an unhappy look. “Did you think that I was going for your weapon?”
“Programming,” I say. “Protect your weapon, always. And you aren’t the only one with a bad relationship baggage.”
“I can accept that and understand it, but now it’s my turn to say quid pro quo. I’m opening the door to trusting you. You need to do the same and trust me.”
She’s right. A hand for a hand. I let mine fall away now, leaving hers at my strap, a move from my gun. She closes her hand over the butt of my gun, daring me to challenge her, her chin lifting, gaze meeting mine as she says, “If you were him-”
My hands slide around her neck, dragging her mouth to mine. “Obviously I need to fuck you fast and hard before I go slow and sexy, just to get him the hell out of this room.” I kiss her, a deep, demanding, stroke of tongue on tongue, I end with a challenge. “Do you want me or my gun?”
“You,” she whispers, her hand sliding away from my weapon. “I want you.”

Review:

Til Death Do Us Part by Amanda Quick is a wonderful mystery thriller that takes place in Victorian London. Calista Langley, our heroine, runs a private respectable introduction agency from her house, to offer those who are alone in finding equal companions in the same situation.  Calista is being stalked, as she has received some creepy funeral  trinkets, such as a black wreath, black jewelry with her initials and a coffin bell.  Calista’s brother, Andrew and the long time servants fear for her, but she feels that going to the police will be no help.  She is also in the midst of rejecting a former suitor, who dumped her to marry a wealthy heiress, and now wants to pursue her again, even though he is still married.

In the midst of this, enter our hero, Trent Hastings, who is a famous mystery writer.  Trent came to visit Calista, to check her out, as his sister is one of her clients.  After words were exchanged, he leaves only to come back the following day and apologize.  Trent discovers some of the trinkets and learns about Calista’s predicament.  She will turn to Trent for help and together they will embark on solving this mystery, which will turn out to be somewhat of a serial killer, and Calista seems to be the next marked victim.  This mystery was exciting, and at times scary, but the fun part was watching Trent use his skills as a detective from his writing and research.  A slow build romance will begin between Trent and Calista, but that is in the background with the mystery thriller totally in the forefront.

Amanda Quick does a fabulous job of creating so many twists and turns that changed our thoughts on the killer often.  Most of all, this mystery was so well written, and Quick (who is also Jayne Ann Krentz and Jayne Castle) puts us right in the middle of the investigation looking at the clues, and solving this mystery. I also loved the wonderful characters she has created; Calista, Trent, Andrew, Endura, even Mr. Pell, and some others.  Til Death Do Us Part was an exciting, edge of your seat thriller, a bit scary, and wonderful sweet couple that we rooted for.  I will say that the last 1/3 of the book was so exciting, suspenseful and tense, that I could not put the book down, not to mention more surprises.  This was a wonderful book that I wholly recommend.  Of course, you come to expect this from anything by the Quick, Krentz, Castle trio.  🙂

She belonged to him.

He was locked inside a cage the size and shape of a coffin. A dark thrill heated his blood like a powerful, intoxicating drug. When the time came he would purify the woman and cleanse himself with her blood. But tonight was not the time. The ritual had to be followed correctly. The woman must be made to comprehend and acknowledge the great wrong that she had done. There was no finer instructor than fear.

He huddled inside the concealed lift, listening to the sounds of someone moving about in the bedroom on the other side of the wall. There was a narrow crack in the paneling. Excitement sparked through him when he caught a glimpse of the woman. She was at her dressing table, adjusting the pins in her dark brown hair. It was as if she knew he was watching and was deliberately taunting him.

She was passable in appearance, but he had seen her on the street and had not been particularly impressed with her looks. She was overly tall for a woman and her forceful character was etched on her face. She was dangerous. It was all there in her unnerving eyes.

The woman rose from the dressing table chair and moved out of sight. A moment later he heard the muffled sound of the bedroom door opening and closing.

Silence.

He slid the cage door aside and opened the wooden panel. The wall sconce had been turned down low but he could make out the bed, the dressing table, and the wardrobe.

He moved out of the lift. The heady exhilaration he always experienced at such moments roared through him. With every step of the ritual he came closer to achieving his own purification.

For a precious few seconds he debated where to leave his gift. The bed or the dressing table?
The bed, he decided. So much more intimate.

He made his way out through the tradesmen’s entrance and slipped, unseen, into the gardens. The gate was still unlocked, just as he had left it.

A few minutes later he was lost in the fog. The weight of the knife in its sheath beneath his greatcoat was reassuring.

The ritual was almost complete.

The woman with the unnerving eyes would soon understand that she belonged to him. It was her destiny to be the one to cleanse him. He was certain of it. The connection between them was a bond that could be shattered only by death.

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: WICKED NEED is the third installment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult THE WICKED HORSE erotic, romance series. This is former Olympian and The Silo’s Fantasy Maker Rand Bishop, and Catherine (Cat) Lyons Vaughn’s story line. WICKED NEED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: WICKED NEED contains scenes of MM/ MMF/ MF sexual situations including anal, as well as reference to BDSM, multiple partners, gang sex and sexual situations that may be triggers for some readers.

Told from dual first person points of view (Rand and Cat) WICKED NEED focuses on Cat Lyons following the death of her husband- an elderly man Cat married for money-but a man who used Cat for his sexually, deviant pleasures. Homeless and without any source of income, Cat finds herself the house guest of Rand Bishop-The Silo’s ‘fantasy maker’-and the man who will come to Cat’s rescue when she needs it the most. Hoping to discover the truth behind Cat’s ‘push to the curb’, Rand begins an investigation of his own as to why Cat has been left penniless, homeless, and without a clear, cut version of her late husband’s will. What ensues is the building relationship between Cat and Rand, and Rand’s need to give Cat everything that she wants and needs.

Rand Bishop has been accused of having ‘White Knight Syndrome’. He has a need to ‘save’ and ‘rescue’ the less fortunate, and Cat Lyons is his latest target. Cat’s past has formed her present; from poverty and neglect, Cat found herself looking for the first convenient way out, and at the lowest point in her life when she married an older man-for money and security. But security is not all that it is cracked up to be when Cat finds herself the sexual plaything of her husband’s depravity and need to humiliate his younger wife. Left with nothing upon her husband’s death, Cat becomes Rand’s latest rescue, and the man with whom she will fall in love.

The relationship between Cat and Rand begins prior to their introduction in WICKED NEED. Cat was a regular member at The Silo, and Rand was one of her many partners along with the Club owners, their partners, and any number of men and women who ventured into Cat’s life at the exclusive club. The $ex scenes are numerous, graphic, detailed, aggressive and intense. Nothing is off limits for our story line heroine or hero-Cat is a woman who believes she is not worthy of love and affection.

The world building continues to focus on The Wicked Horse, and The Silo but in WICKED NEED both clubs take a step back from the story line premise. WICKED NEED follows our couple outside of The Silo, into their public and private lives, friendships and family, including the search for the truth about Cat’s past.

WICKED NEED is an engaging and erotic story line with some controversial scenarios and intimate $ex scenes. The premise is provocative and spirited; the characters are impassioned, sexual and sensitive; the romance is emotional and intense. Sawyer Bennett weaves a tale of wicked seduction !

A powerful warrior and commander of the dark elf legions, Bleu is a loyal and devoted male, and one who has never failed in anything—except one thing. Love. When an elusive female dragon shifter surfaces in Hell again, giving him a mission to hurl himself into, he gladly returns to his hunt for her and the deadly blade she stole from his prince seven centuries ago, but as he closes in on his prey, fate reveals she is far more than his enemy.

Having escaped from the black market arena and her life as a slave, Taryn sets her sights back on the task she began seven hundred years ago when her brother stole a precious sword, but in the three centuries she’s been a captive, everything has changed. Corrupted by a craving for power, her brother has become dangerously obsessed with finding the blade and using it to claim the ultimate treasure—the position of King of Hell.

Faced with having to end her beloved twin to stop him from bringing all of Hell to its knees before him, will Taryn be strong enough to use the very blade he seeks against him? And when Bleu finally catches his elusive prey, will he listen to his head as it demands he complete his mission or his heart as it demands he claim his eternal mate?

review

POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR is the ninth installment in Felicity Heaton’s adult ETERNAL MATES paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is Commander Bleu of the Dark Elf legions , and dragon shifter Taryn’s story line. POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Commander Bleu’s story has been building throughout the series-quiet, powerful, in control, and a man who is determined to protect Prince Loren-no matter the cost.

Told from dual third person perspectives POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR is mostly a narrative(as per Heaton’s style of story telling) told from our heroine and hero’s points of view; a story line that presents the events from the past that have lead Bleu and Taryn to present day. Hundreds of years earlier Taryn-a female, dragon shifter, had been accused of killing thousands of elves and stealing a deadly blade belonging to the Elven people. For centuries Commander Bleu has searched for the elusive she-dragon in the hopes of taking back the blade and destroying the dragon in the process. Fast forward to present day wherein Bleu discovers the whereabouts of the deadly dragon only to realize that Taryn is his fated mate and the truth is not what he has been lead to believe. What ensues is the push and pull of a relationship that finds Taryn siding with the man that she loves against the brother she no longer knows.

POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR is a story with more graphic violence than in previous installments. The torture, terror and amped up cruelty is heightened in this particular story line – Taryn’s brother is a dragon possessed by the darkness and acts out against those he declares the enemy. The world building focuses on the recovery of the Elven blade, and the take down of a dragon that has destroyed so many lives.

The relationship between Bleu and Taryn is one fated by DNA but Bleu believes that Taryn is responsible for the death of thousands of elves. Taryn, on the other hand, knows that Bleu is her mate, but also the man who has sworn vengeance against her for sins of the past. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense-having a mate is something new for Bleu-and he is having a difficult time keeping his emotions and possessive needs under control.

POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR has a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters as the different realms set to go to war with the dragons. Many of the names and faces will be familiar to readers of Felicity’s ETERNAL MATES. Taryn was first introduced to the reader in BITTEN BY A HELLCAT (Eternal Mates #6) when Taryn and several others were rescued from a slaver.

There is quite a bit of duplicity and repetition throughout the story line that I thought could have been edited out-e.g. the continuous need to acknowledge eye color, clothing color, and color of the dragon-sometimes the constant reminders become filler in the story, and I found myself skipping or jumping onto the next sentence or paragraph.

POSSESSED BY A DARK WARRIOR is a revealing story line; an enchanting love story about two people whose lives are thrown together by chaos and destruction; a fateful relationship that is dramatic, intense, emotional and impassioned. The premise is captivating; the characters are animated and heartbreaking; the romance is powerful and passionate. Felicity Heaton’s ETERNAL MATES series will leave the reader sated but wanting more.

excerpt

The mountains seemed endless, stretching as far as his eyes could see across one hundred and eighty degrees of his field of vision. Bleu stood high on a cragged ledge, his back to a black mountain that many in Hell would find forbidding, because it marked the border of the dragon realm. He could see a few flying into the realm, their jewel colours bright against the dull grey sky. He hadn’t lived in the time when dragons had been free to fly in the mortal realm, but he could easily imagine how majestic they would have appeared against a dazzling blue backdrop spotted with pale clouds.

Dragons had been allies of the elves once, so many millennia ago that the only proof they had of their friendship were tattered pieces of the ancient records of the elven kings and queens, scratched onto thick leather now so brittle they would break if someone dared to remove them from the delicate glass case that contained them in the castle.

The castle.

Bleu turned his gaze towards it, instinctively aware of which direction his home lay in, feeling the familiar tug in his gut that told him to return to it. He had business there, and he had never been one to ignore his instincts. They were rarely wrong, and right now they were blaring a warning at him to step back from the dragon realm and seek a safer course of action.

He needed a team if he was going to venture into the realm of dragons and dare to question them about one of their own kind.

It was too dangerous to head in alone.

Dragons were fiercely protective of their own kind, even those they knew had committed a crime that had given their species a black name in the language of the elves.

He didn’t fancy ending up as roasted elf, so he would return to the castle and form his team—the same trio of warriors that had been with him the last time he had hunted the female dragon.

He focused on his body, calling his portal, and green-purple light shimmered over the scales of his black armour. Darkness swallowed him and when it receded, he was standing in the bright sun-filled verdant courtyard of the castle.

It towered above him, a beautiful mixture of pale and dark stone quarried from the mountains, shaped to form tall towers topped with conical tiled roofs set on a series of large square buildings with balconies that ran across their length. The main building stood five storeys tall, and the thick towers rose to spear the darkening sky and added another six levels.

A warm breeze chased over the high walls surrounding the castle and rustled the leaves of the trees in the orchard around him, carrying the scent of their blooms. Nature embraced him again, a tender touch that soothed him after being surrounded by the darkness of the demon and dragon realms.

He began to relax and then tensed again when Prince Loren appeared right in front of him, his handsome face dark and his violet eyes flashing as he shoved his fingers through his neat blue-black hair and began to pace. His formal knee-length jacket flapped around his legs with each agitated stride across the pale gravel path that spread outwards from the portal, intersecting the lush grass that grew beneath the trees.

Something was wrong.

Wrong enough that his prince had left a council meeting to come straight to him.

Before he could ask his prince what was bothering him, Loren turned on him.

The dark crescents beneath his prince’s eyes concerned him and he took a step forwards, growing determined to find out what was worrying him and find a way to relieve his prince of whatever burden his shoulders held.

“Where have you been?” Loren said, a slight sombre edge to his voice as he halted before Bleu, his bright violet eyes searching Bleu’s. “You have failed to return to the castle since Vail came.”

There was a tone in those last three words that conveyed a wealth of hurt but relief too. Loren always sounded that way when speaking of his younger brother, but Bleu held no love for the mad prince himself, not since he had gone to war with Loren and the elf kingdom, and had decimated an entire legion of the army.

The legion Bleu had served in under Vail.

He had been one of only a handful of survivors.

He wasn’t sure he would ever be able to think well of Vail, not even after everything they had learned about the reasons he had attacked his own kind. The things he had seen Vail do were branded on his mind, seared on his soul, together with the deep pain he had caused Loren. Bleu couldn’t forgive him.

“It has been a lunar cycle… so I will ask again… where have you been, Bleu?”

A month?

He could only stare at Loren as that sank in. He had thought it had been a week at most since he had left the castle, intent on returning to the last place he had seen the dragon female and seeing if he could uncover any clues that might lead him to her.

A month.

“Did your disappearance and subsequent avoidance of your home have anything to do with Vail… because he has left with Rosalind.” There was a softer note to his prince’s voice now, a soothing one that had no effect on Bleu as it dawned on him that his leaving had in part been because of Vail’s sudden appearance.

But not because he despised Loren’s brother.

He rolled his shoulder in a casual shrug, trying to let the epiphany roll off him just as easily, but failing dismally. His mood blackened again, just as it had that night a month ago when he had learned another fool had fallen under the spell of a bond.

A male no one in their right mind could love had found someone who loved him, and fuck had it stung.

“Good for him,” Bleu muttered and turned to walk away.

“Answer me, Bleu,” Loren barked and he halted, freezing to the spot and aware of the danger he was in.

Loren rarely raised his voice, especially to him. When he did, he meant business, and right now his prince was throwing off vibes that warned he was liable to break with convention and throw him in the cells if he was disobedient. It would be a first. Bleu had mouthed off to him, had behaved with little respect at times, and never had his prince punished him.

Bleu slowly turned back to face him.

“Did you stay away because of Vail?” Loren whispered, a heartfelt plea for an answer that told Bleu his prince didn’t want to punish him this time either, but people were watching them closely, and they would expect Loren to do just that if Bleu showed an ounce of disrespect.

He shook his head. “No… Vail isn’t the reason I have been away from the castle.”

It was the truth.

Well, mostly the truth. Vail wasn’t the whole reason he had left or the reason why he had been away.

He had just been the last straw.

Seeing Vail bonded to his fated female on a day that had been Loren’s wedding day to his own mate Olivia, and had brought the happily mated couples of Sable and Thorne, and Bleu’s sister Iolanthe and her mate Kyter to the elf kingdom had hit Bleu hard.

He hadn’t really thought about his actions at the time. He hadn’t really considered why he had left or what he had been feeling. He’d had a pressing need to investigate the dragon and he had left to do just that.

But an entire month had passed, and the look in Loren’s eyes told him that he had worried him, that the tone Bleu had heard in his voice and the sombre edge to his eyes had nothing to do with Vail, and everything to do with him, and that Loren wanted answers now.

Bleu had none to give to him, at least none that answered the questions in Loren’s eyes, because he didn’t want to look too closely at his reasons for leaving.

Instead, he would give his prince a safer explanation for his behaviour.

“I tracked the dragon,” he said and Loren’s expression gained a curious edge and he stepped closer to Bleu. Bleu sighed and raked his fingers over his longer hair, preening it back from his face as he tried to figure out where to begin. He knew how important the sword was to Loren, and he had sworn to retrieve it, and now he felt he was on the verge of fulfilling that promise. “I believe she has returned to her own realm for some reason. Perhaps the dragons there are hiding her, or she has gone to see someone, or she believes she will be able to conceal herself again among her own kind. I only returned to assemble a team so I might track the dragon into her own realm.”

Loren began pacing again, his head bent and the thumb of his left hand playing on his lip. His prince had never been able to keep still when thinking. It drove the council of elders mad when he silently paced back and forth in front of his throne, and that often amused Bleu no end. Anything that pissed off the council was fantastic in his opinion. They were antiquated idiots who stuck firmly to the rules and had given his prince nothing but pain and heartache for the forty-two centuries he had been at war with Vail, constantly badgering him to kill his brother.

Bleu had been all for killing Vail, but he never had been able to bring himself to do it whenever they fought. He had always faltered when dealing the killing blow, aware of the devastating pain it would cause Loren if he took Vail’s life.

Now the council were probably giving Loren hell as he attempted to convince them to allow Vail back into the elf kingdom now that he had proven he had been nothing but a pawn, a puppet controlled by a dark witch, and was maddened by the terrible things he had done.

Bleu couldn’t see them agreeing to that, and he couldn’t see his prince giving up this time either. Loren was a stubborn bastard at times, especially where those he loved were concerned.

“I have experienced fleeting sensations.” Loren glanced across at him but didn’t slow his pacing, taking long strides across the path, only needing three to reach the grass before he had to turn back around.

His prince needed a bigger space to work off some of his tension. Bleu would have offered to spar with him, but the urge to pull his team together and head into the dragon realm was growing stronger, and the thought of delaying his departure was near painful. He had to get back to the dragon realm.

He had to find her.

“They are familiar… and it took me some time, but I have realised what they are. It is the sword.” Loren huffed and his lips twisted into a grim, self-reproaching smile. “I admit that it has taken me some time to decipher the sensation… because my connection to it is not as strong as Vail’s… but it has surfaced again. Perhaps the dragon has retrieved it from wherever she hid it?”

Bleu didn’t like the sound of that. They still didn’t know why the dragon had stolen it or whether she had any ill intentions. She could easily decimate an entire demon army with it. But if that had been her agenda, why would she have waited so long to carry it out?

Why had she hidden the sword?

He wanted to believe that she viewed the sword as treasure and only treasure, but there was still a part of him that feared she meant to use it, that she had been waiting for some reason. Dragons could see the future if they were born of a strong bloodline. Had she seen something in her future and had stolen the sword because of it, and had been waiting all this time for that future to come to pass?

Loren’s hand clapped down on Bleu’s shoulder, jerking him away from thoughts of the dragon and what might lie ahead.

“Hunt the dragon. Eliminate her. Retrieve that sword for me, Bleu.”

Bleu had the feeling his prince was more aware of his innermost feelings, the ones he had tried to bury deep and ignore, than he would like and was giving him a mission to focus on in order to take his mind off things.

To give him a purpose again.

Manhandled (Hammered #2) by Cari Quinn and Taryn Elliott-a review

MANHANDLED (Hammered #2) by Cari Quinn and Taryn Elliott-a review

Manhandled

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 8, 2016

My name is Faith Keystone, but my friends call me Keys. I’m the piano player for Hammered. Did I mention I’m the only female in my band? That means I technically have five older brothers. Can’t forget my manager and security team, too. Alone time is nonexistent. I escaped an overbearing family to join this happy circus, and most of the time it’s awesome. Except now, because of one teensy little incident at a show.

Now I have this hulking bodyguard shadowing me like a freaking puppy. Only this puppy is more like a Doberman with an attitude problem. And he only knows one word—NO.

I hate that word. And I hate Quinn Alexander. The one thing I do like is giving him the slip. Is it wrong that I kinda like when he growls at me after he finds me? Because he always finds me. Worst of all? I want him so bad that I keep forgetting I hate him

REVIEW: MANHANDLED is the second installment Cari Quinn and Taryn Elliott’s erotic, rock romance series focusing on the band Hammered. This is keyboardist Faith ‘Keys’ Keystone, and former Ranger/security specialist Quinn Alexander’s story line. MANHANDLED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Quinn and Elliott’s HAMMERED is a spin of from their best selling Lost in Oblivion rock series. You do not have to have read the original series to understand the premise of the Hammered series. There is an occasional character cross-over between the series.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Faith and Quinn) MANHANDLED focuses on Faith; a stalker who has attempted to abduct our heroine; and the bodyguard who will protect Faith with his body and his heart. What ensues is a forbidden relationship between Faith and Quinn, when our hero begins to fall for the client he has been hired to protect.

Quinn is a man hired to do a job and Faith is unlike any of his previous clients. She is snarky, funny, energetic and a little bit crazy for the likes of Quinn, but Quinn is a man determined to never repeat the darkness that invaded his life once before. Quinn likes regimented order and schedules, while Faith is a woman on the move 24/7. The $ex scenes are intimate, intense and hot. The sexual tension is palpable and frenetic.

All of the previous story line characters play secondary and supporting roles throughout the story. There is still a bit of a mystery surrounding Reed aka Bats, and his constant disappearing act as well as his ‘relationship’ with a woman who isn’t welcome with band. Faith’s BFF Owen is someone whose story needs to be told soon.

MANHANDLED is a fun and intoxicating read. The premise is imaginative and uplifting; the characters are passionate and intense; the romance is provocative and electric. Quinn and Elliott’s writing flows seamlessly touching the heart and soul of every reader.
