ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 17, 2016

Fate has played River for a fool. Again. He thought he’d earned the respect of a decent and admirable wolver pack. He was grateful for it. He was content…until they took it all away, and left him alone and angry. Again.

Yet Fate rewards him with another pack, one that needs his survival skills, and one where he meets the girl of his dreams, but River is no longer a fool. The beautiful Rebecca is an Alpha’s daughter. She can never be his and she knows it, too. But knowing the outcome, changes the game, and both River and Reb decide to play this one on their own, but different, terms.

What Fate knows, and River must learn, is that happiness comes when you least expect it, and finding a love worth fighting for is what brings a Wolver’s Reward.

REVIEW: Wolver’s Reward is Book Seven of the Wolver Series by Jacqueline Rhoades. In this book we revisit a previous character found as a cub/boy in The Alpha’s Choice, his name is River. He was a young male that had been raised by his rogue family, but had escaped with several children that he took care of. They were found by Alpha Charles Goodman and taken into the Wolf’s Head pack.

This story is years later, River has grown into a young man and doesn’t realize he’s meant to be an Alpha someday…spurring Charles and Kat to try to get him to work with or for the mysterious Mr. Begley to help him find his place in the Wolver world. Insulted, and thinking he’s unwanted and being kicked out – AGAIN—he packs his things and takes off.

While he still thinks of himself as a “bad” guy, because of all the things he was made to do as a child, he’s actually a very honorable and wonderful young man. This is a journey of self-discovery and putting his past into the past, while deciding about his future. On the road, he stops to help a young lady in trouble and gets hit over the head and his stuff stolen for all his trouble…and decides to get his stuff back.
This is an emotional story of growing into full adulthood, while fending off danger and righting a few wrongs. The characters are vivid and real, the circumstances interesting and thought provoking.

This story as all the Wolver series books, is well written with compassion, humor, adventure and a nice mixture of danger and fun. Author Rhoades takes us on another journey into the lives and hearts of two people made for each other; while letting us enjoy the complicated ride all the way.

If you haven’t read this series, why not? If you like shifter novels, this is a compelling and different slant on the species. Each book can stand alone, but like most series, you get a better understanding of the overall world and stories if you begin at the beginning.

(1)Alpha’s Mate (2) Alpha’s Choice (3) Alpha’s Daughter and a Christmas novella Rabbit’s Creek Santa are the first part of the series. Wolver’s Gold, Wolver’s Rescue, and Wolver’s Reward are the second leg of this wonderful series.

REVIEW: UNSEEN MESSAGES by Pepper Winters focuses on survival, love, forgiveness and moving forward.

Told from dual first person points of view (Galloway Oak and Estelle Evermore) UNSEEN MESSAGES follows Estelle and Galloway as they embark on two separate journeys that will merge together when disaster strikes. Desperation and need forced six people to pursue a dangerous trek that resulted in a fatal flight, four lost castaways, and several years of eking out an existence on an unknown island. What ensues is a tale of survival, love, loss and the potential for something more.

At the outset of the story Estelle Evermore battles a series of unfortunate events that begs to keep our heroine from getting on her flight. These ‘messages’ are ignored by Estelle although deep in her mind she knows that something bad is about to happen but chooses to get on the doomed flight-one way or another. Meeting Galloway Oak places Estelle in the company of the man with whom she would share the next several years on an island where their small and mismatched family would struggle to survive. Starvation, dehydration, bugs, poisonous fish, and a lack of shelter find our foursome dependent upon one another to persevere against the elements and one another.

UNSEEN MESSAGES follows four people as they endure heartbreak and loss, pain and suffering, falling in love and letting go. Akin to ‘Castaway’ their rescue comes with more difficulties, the strangeness of big city living, and a media and law enforcement that demands answers now. While Estelle hides a secret about her life, Galloway’s darkened past forces the couple apart upon their return home.

Pepper Winters blends elements of ‘Castaway’, ‘Lost’, ‘Blue Lagoon’, and ‘Swiss Family Robinson’ into a tale that is all her own. Four people who struggle against the odds, focusing on survival and loss, hoping to one day return to the people they love. There are moments of heartbreaking sorrow and grief; life is never easy on an uncharted island. Each evening our castaways would write messages in the sand to be swept away by the tide, never to be seen.

The premise is a journey of the heart and soul; where two people find love and a happily ever after amongst the elements; where one soul will find completion before its time. UNSEEN MESSAGES looks at the strength and resilience of the human spirit; where life continues to blossom with or without the reality of modern man.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 2, 2016

In the throes of fierce clan wars, the Queen’s Regent tricks the children of two feuding lairds into a desperate choice: marry or die. The union—however reluctant—of a MacPherson and a Robertson could end three generations of hostilities between the two families.

Ailis Robertson wanted a husband, not a savage. But she is rocked by the intense passion she feels for Bhaic—who is likewise taken aback by the fierce jealousy he experiences when he sees Ailis speaking with other men. Is it possible for fierce enemies to become ardent lovers?

REVIEW

5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

Ok I admit it .. I am a sucker for a historical highland romance that features a couple who begin as enemies and end as bonded soul mate lovers! I also will admit that Mary Wine is one of my fave authors for this genre. She writes lots of great story with fascinating characters, lush scenery, some hot scenes and just the right dash of conflict.

Highland Spitfire is the first book of Mary Wine’s new “Highland Weddings” series. It centres around two incredible main characters who just so happen to be from warring clans. When circumstance, ultimatums, attraction, lust, misunderstanding, jealousy and so many laughs are weaved into a story the way Mary Wine has managed to do, you are left with one fricken heck of a page turner.

Ailis Robertson is the clan laird’s daughter. She is everything that I love in a heroine and so much more .. seriously, if I could of jumped through the pages and high fived this girl, I would have. She is the epitome of highland strength in character. A true love she has for her father, propels her into a choice (not really a choice in my opinion) that will not only affect her life, but the future of her clan.

Bhaic MacPherson is the son of his clans laird (although not the eldest son) and he too was so awesome and I may have been a little smitten by him. He is somewhat of a lady’s man, strong and brutish in the way a man was in those days, and every bit as invested as his older brother is, in ensuring survival of his clan.

Both Ailis and Bhaic are pretty much forced into a marriage to end their clans famous feuding. When they agree to NOT consummate their marriage in hopes of obtaining a future annulment, that is when they start to realize that resisting is not going to be as easy as all that. Both experience fits of lust, jealousy of attention the other may get, and the understanding that maybe this marriage is the solution to a peaceful future. However, there are some people who just cannot let go of grudges and soon this couple finds themselves trying to save themselves and each other.

These two made this entire book. Ailis surprised me with her strength. Can you imagine leaving everything you love behind, and being plopped right in the middle of a group of people that hate you? She managed to not only find her place, but impress upon others that her love was genuine and her intent good. Bhaic is presented to us at first as somewhat of a savage who likes what he likes and when he likes it, but you see this incredible transition and growth throughout this story. He comes into what I would consider manhood by thinking beyond his own selfish urges and protecting his wife against people who are family .. clan.

Highly recommend this book to my fellow Highland romance lovers and while I am at it, recommend all of Mary Wine’s books too! LOL

HAPPY READING! 🙂

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 31, 2016

What if a pair of cowboy boots could foretell true love?

For years, Texas girl Greer Maddox waited to inherit her legacy as the next prophecy bootmaker. But that day never came. Now, instead of living out her rightful destiny, she’s lost, restlessly jumping from one art project to the next.

Until the day leather tooler Alejandro Villanueva strolls into town looking like ten kinds of sexy trouble.

After surviving his dark and dangerous past, all Alex wants is a quiet future. Alone, where his former life and mistakes can’t hurt anyone else. Even casually screwing around with a girl next door like Greer–whose dulce de leche voice and curvy body make him sweat–is a bad idea. But when she gets involved in his attempts to win the Prophecy Boot Company’s tooling contract, waving adios is the last thing on his mind.

Their attraction flares hot and undeniable. He wants her, and even knowing he shouldn’t have her can’t stop him from indulging in the temptation she offers. But when his past comes calling, he is forced to choose between hiding from his sins, or saving the woman he loves.

••••••••••

REVIEW: A PASSION TO PURSUE is the second installment in Kelsey Browning’s contemporary, adult PROPHECY OF LOVE slightly paranormal, romance series. This is artist / glass blower Greer Maddox, and leather tooler Alejandra ‘Alex’ Villanueva’s story line. A PASSION TO PURSUE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

SOME BACKGROUND: For several generations the Maddox family of Prophecy, Texas have been the ‘boot makers’ of legend: families would bring in their young children for a chance at a one of a kind leather boot that prophesied their future, and that of their potential mate. The tale of a prophecy boot maker foretelling the future is the staple and backdrop to Prophecy’s livelihood. Although Greer is not this generation’s boot maker, her sister Delaney is Prophecy’s seer and boot maker.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Greer and Alex) ) and a few third party observations running parallel to the current timeline, A PASSION TO PURSUE finds Alex Villenueva applying for a position as a leather tooler at the Prophecy Boot Company in Prophecy Texas. Running from his past, Alex never stays in one place for very long but Prophecy becomes more interesting when he meets Greer Maddox, and likes everything she has to offer. What ensue is an ‘art competition’ where Alex finds himself fighting for the position of leather tooler, and fighting his growing feelings for Greer Maddox. In the end, it is the demons from his past that find Alex running back from where he came.

The relationship between Alex and Greer is one of immediate attraction but Alex can’t see himself living in a town like Prophecy Texas-too small, and everyone in everybody’s business is too much for the quiet and reserved newcomer with secrets of his own. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the over the top graphic sexual language and scenarios.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Greer’s sister Delaney and her husband Cal (A Love To Last #1), as well as the B&B owner Raylene, and several well-meaning but nosey Prophecy citizens. We are also introduced to Alex’s family-his mother and youngest brother Nic; and of course Alex’s past which still keeps a firm hold of everything that Alex once was.

The world building continues to focus on the boot making prophecies of Prophecy Texas but in the case of A PASSION TO PURSUE there is only one pair of prophecy boots in the making. With the introduction of Alex’s kid brother, and his friends, Delaney has another vision for a potential prophecy and the future.

A PASSION TO PURSUE is a sweet story about one man’s inability to run from his past, and one woman’s desire to hang on to her dream. There are moments of passion and love; turmoil and trouble; forgiveness and moving forward. The premise is spirited and delightful; the characters are entertaining, and in the case of Alex –somewhat heartbreaking; the romance is a slow build to love and something more. Kelsey Browning adds a little bit of the paranormal to a small town series about romance and fated love.
