ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 15, 2016

After getting dumped, the last thing I needed was to move next door to someone who reminded me of my ex-boyfriend, Elec.

Damien was a hotter version of my ex.

The neighbor I’d dubbed “Angry Artist” also had two massive dogs that kept me up with their barking.

He wanted nothing to do with me. Or so I thought until one night I heard laughter coming through an apparent hole in my bedroom wall.

Damien had been listening to all of my phone sessions with my therapist.

The sexy artist next door now knew all of my deepest secrets and insecurities.

We got to talking.

He set me straight with tips to get over my breakup.

He became a good friend, but Damien made it clear that he couldn’t be anything more.

Problem was, I was falling hard for him anyway. And as much as he pushed me away, I knew he felt the same…because his heartbeat didn’t lie.

I thought my heart had been broken by Elec, but it was alive and beating harder than ever for Damien.

I just hoped he wouldn’t shatter it for good.

Author’s note – Neighbor Dearest is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

•••••••

REVIEW: NEIGHBOR DEAREST by Penelope Ward is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, erotic romance story line focusing on artist Damien D.H. Hennessey, and youth center counselor Chelsea Jameson. Chelsea was first introduced in Ward’s Stepbrother Dearest that focused on the taboo relationship between Elec and his step-sister Greta.

Told from first person point of view (Chelsea) NEIGHBOR DEAREST focuses on the relationship between neighbors Chelsea Jameson and her current landlord Damien Hennessey. From eavesdropping on personal conversations, to movie night with popcorn and drinks, Chelsea and Damien’s friendship continues to grow until Damien begins to push Chelsea away. Damien has a secret: one that forces Damien to keep Chelsea from falling in love but Damien’s continuous mixed signals including jealousy over her ex-boyfriend, and setting Chelsea up on a dating website both confuse and irritate our story line heroine. Damien claims not to do romance or love but his actions say otherwise. What ensues is a relationship that is taken to the next level when the truth is revealed, and Damien sees the possibility of a future with the woman with whom he is falling in love.

NEIGHBOR DEAREST is a stand alone story but a ‘spinoff’ tale from Ward’s Stepbrother Dearest. Chelsea’s former boyfriend Elec makes a cameo appearance but for all intents and purposes he is not the bad guy in the current story line premise. The conflict does not come from an outside source but from Damien’s constant need to push Chelsea away and the secret he keeps.

We are introduced to Damien’s brother Tyler, and Chelsea’s sister Jade, and I suspect there is building story line between Tyler and Jade. Jade is an actress currently living in L.A., and Tyler is hoping to get into the business.

Penelope Ward’s NEIGHBOR DEAREST has moments of humor, fun, romance, love, heartbreak and steamy $ex. The premise is compelling and intimate; the characters are passionate and engaging; the romance is seductive and energetic. The sexual energy between Chelsea and Damien is palpable; there is no denying the attraction between one another-it is almost intoxicating and you can hear our heroine’s heartbreak when she knows it is time to walk away. NEIGHBOR DEAREST is an impressive and moving story about taking a chance on love.

Excerpt beige

Looking tense, he placed his hands slowly into his pockets as he looked at me. “What exactly happened last night?”
“What are you talking about?”
Nice try dodging the question.
He moved in closer to me. “What am I talking about? You leaving me with a giant fucking basket of muffins and running off before I could even say anything? Ring a bell?”
“I thought you’d be alone. It caught me off guard.”
His eyes softened. “You were upset…”
“No, I wasn’t.”
“You’re a terrible liar, Chelsea. Fucking horrible at it. You don’t hide your feelings very well.”
“You think you know just about everything there is to know about me, don’t you?”
“Not everything. But it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to read you. It’s one of the things I like about you, though. You’re one of the least fake people I’ve ever met.”
“Then, tell me. Why do you think I was upset?”
“Honestly? I think you’re confused about me.”
“Confused…”
“Yes. I think you’re wondering why I opted not to have dinner with you and instead ended up with a woman I’d literally just met, someone who isn’t as sweet as you and sure as fuck isn’t as pretty as you. So, you’re wondering what the hell I was thinking. Am I right?”
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
He continued, “I know we haven’t known each other for very long, but I do feel a connection with you, okay? If you’ve sensed something, you’re not imagining it.”
“Well, if I wasn’t confused before…now I definitely am.”
“I feel like I need to say this now, because I can’t stand the thought of you thinking that I somehow find you undesirable when it’s exactly the opposite.”
I crossed my arms. “Again. Not following you.”
He closed his eyes as if to try to find the right words. “It’s just that I know for sure that I can’t ever be what someone like you needs in a boyfriend, in a partner. It’s not that we wouldn’t have fun or be great together at first. I’m just not good for you in the long-term—not marriage material. And the reasons are too complex to get into, except to say that it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with me. I can’t, in good conscience, start something with a girl like you.”
“A girl like me…”
“Yes. You’re not the kind of girl a guy takes home for a quick fuck. You’re the girl he keeps.”
Right. Just like Elec did.

Interview with actor/model Drew Leighty

Interview with actor/model Drew Leighty

TRC: Hi Drew and welcome to The Reading Cafe.

We would like to start with some background information. Please tell us something about yourself?

Please Follow Drew : Facebook / Twitter / Instagram /

Drew Leighty 1Drew:  Well I have always been an athlete. I played just about every sport growing up, and narrowed that down to baseball, water polo, basketball, and football in high school, and on the side I would go surfing and snowboarding with friends. In college I played baseball before I had an injury to my collar bone, snapping it in half, that took me off the field for good. In the ER I met a woman who gave me her card and asked me to contact her to model for her company. Some may say the rest was history, had I made some impact on history. Sadly I didn’t haha. I began modeling for Ford, then moved to Pinkerton, and worked with a theatrical manager. I then moved to a new commercial agency, RC Talent, owned by my friend who was previously an agent for Pinkerton. Soon after I had my son and I took a hiatus from the entertainment industry to work full-time and finish my bachelor’s degree. About two years ago I did another shoot with Scott Hoover and started being featured as a book cover model. Then a year ago I did a couple trailers for Jennifer Armentrout’s Titan Series and realized I had given up what I loved to do, acting. Since I have resigned with my old commercial agent as well as my theatrical manager, I’ve been featured on more book covers, worked on commercial like Ross and American Crew, and soon will hopefully be on some SOAP Operas or prime time TV shows.

TRC: What were your dreams and aspirations growing up?

Drew:  My dream growing up was always to be a professional baseball player. However, the snapping of my collar bone really ended that dream. Fortunately, before I had declared Communications as my major at the time I had taken a public speaking class and did absolutely terrible. My counselor had suggested I take a theatre arts class to help me with my public speaking, so I did, and I fell in love with it. I realized how natural a transition was from being in the spotlight on the baseball field to being in the spotlight on stage. I took that passion, transferred it to my work in the entertainment industry and ran with it.

TRC: When not modeling, what are your other interests?

Drew:  I love studying. I read a lot of books on working a stage, script reading, character development, etc. to enhance my skills as an actor and give me an idea of what is to be expected from all aspects of production.

TRC: Would you please tell us something about the Showtime™ television series SUBMISSION and your role?

Drew Leighty 5Drew:  Well I joined SUBMISSION originally as a regular, but didn’t receive much information about my role. They sent me some contracts but as you might imagine once I got the call saying I got the role, I was off the walls excited, I mean it was my first major role. So the contracts I was sent, I signed and returned without even reading, they asked me if I knew any “adult” (we had different ideas of what adult meant) actors and I was like, “you kidding I know tons!” and they asked me to get a girl who was a good actress that could play a love interest. I reached out but all my friends were working at the time so I had to let that go.

Then I get an email, and they cut my days from 3-4 weeks to one day, and I was distraught. I mean I had passed up job opportunities to commit to this show so it was very unfortunate. Still in the back of my head I was like, if I perform well then maybe they’ll want to keep me as a regular. This is about a week or so before the first day of filming. At that point I still hadn’t received a script, they said they had done a bunch of rewrites and were still working out kinks. The day before I’m supposed to be working was the day I finally got the script. I get it, I get my character name, and I begin reading. Right off the bat I realized I’m not much of a character in this story at all, I mean I’m five or six pages in and haven’t even heard my character mentioned. BOOM, I see my character’s name highlighted half way down the page. I skip ahead and look down to read my first line, it’s three words. Basically a throw away sentence, so I skip ahead some more, nothing. Skip some more, still nothing. I skip, skip, and skip and there’s nothing, no more lines. So I start back at the page where my line was and realize my character is the main character from a book from the 50’s or 60’s. He’s kinky for today’s day and age but can you imagine the scrutiny he would have faced if he’s as kinky as he was for today but lived back then?

Transfer Drew Lieght yCoverSo I did what I learned, I began building my character. I read on, and all of a sudden I’m hitting a very real and organic sex scene, it took me a few read throughs to confirm that this was my character getting down and dirty. At this point my jaw was on the floor and heart was thumping, I thought for sure they would have asked me was I okay with a sex scene. I grabbed my contracts and there it was in the first paragraph, simulated sex scene, so they had told me. Soon after I get an email, it’s from a high friend and basketball teammate who I haven’t seen or spoken to since high school, now he’s a camera man. His email says “Hey man are you working LA tomorrow on SUBMISSION?” I come to find out he’s the head camera man on the show, so not only am I doing my first simulated sex scene, I’m also doing it in front of a guy who I haven’t spoken to since high school.

I get to set and find out the girl who’s working the scene with me is a well-known adult star (if you’re like me and don’t know this yet, adult star means porn star), so that made things even more intimidating for me. However, fortunately enough for me the crew, the director, the actors, were all so professional I felt completely comfortable for a first timer. In the end I wouldn’t take it back because that was the most difficult role I’ve had but it made me learn a lot about my abilities as an actor and myself.

Drew Leighty M. Clarke series

TRC: What first sparked your interest in modeling? acting? Is there a defining moment where you knew that modeling /acting was something you were interested in pursuing?

Drew:  Well modeling just kind of came with the territory. I wanted to act but the agency I originally worked for, Ford, saw me as a youthful model. I had no experience besides college courses in theatre arts for acting, so they wanted to develop me for the industry. After a few moves from agency to agency, and a few jobs I had a little experience under my belt but not enough so I had to go to expensive schools to study with teachers that would help give me a more professional look on my resume. I’ve always known that I wanted to be in the spotlight, whether for baseball or acting. It’s something that comes natural to me and it’s something I enjoy doing, like I love doing it. Working and studying for it I love as well, which is a love and passion I have never found in any other subject at school.

TRC: Have you ever had a photo shoot or fillming that went completely wrong?

Drew:  Yes my first photoshoot, I paid for. I paid over $900 for the shoot so off the bat I should have known something was wrong, but I was young and naive, and new to the industry. I got my images, all of my headshots, and ZED cards back and they all looked like trash. I found out soon after that the entire shoot I had paid for was a scam, luckily the person who informed me was willing to help me and looked after me from there.

TRC: Many photo shoots and film sets take the model to exotic locations. What has been your favorite location to shoot? Least favorite location (and why)?

Drew Leighty 6Drew:  Well my favorite was probably the Bahamas obviously for the tropical beaches, sun, room service, etc. Plus we were there for four days so that was also nice to have a day to relax by the pool and beach. My least favorite was probably the Mojave desert at night in the Winter. It was cold, I was in pants that had holes and rips, and at night it began snowing.

TRC: Nudity in modeling or acting can be controversial. Some pictures can cross the line between sexuality to pornography. What would you tell young models/actors /body builders just entering the business about nude modeling and photography?

Drew:  I would tell them do whatever you are comfortable with. For us it’s an art, the poses we take create a picture that we consider to be art, to us it’s not controversial or pornography. However, like artists we must be proud of our craft, if you are uncomfortable during a shoot it will show, and it will not look like art and you will probably not be proud of it. So stick within your comfort limits and do not do anything that you find uncomfortable.

TRC: The modeling industry exposes you to many people and sometimes it can be very stressful. At times do you feel alone, surrounded by so many people? What do you do when the stress becomes overwhelming?

Drew Leighty Cover 2 Very Twisted ThingsDrew:  No I never really feel alone, I have my family, I have my agents who take great care of me and always include me in everything even things outside of the industry like workouts, or dinner or whatever. However, when I do stress it’s usually due to not booking a job in a while and I usually take a second to myself, to reevaluate what I’m doing. Find what’s stressing me out, usually it’s money, and take a look at what I can do to break down that stress.

TRC: At times, there has been a ‘stigma’ surrounding the male model and the romance-cover industry but the popularity of the romance story line has skyrocketed in the last few years especially with the erotic and sensual cover images. What is your opinion about the recent popularity and the very busy industry of the ‘romance cover model’?

Drew:  I’m very thankful for it. I’m thankful for all the authors who write these novels, and use me on their covers. I’m thankful for the readers and fans who read these novels and enjoy the covers. And I’m thankful for the erotic and sensual reality that is portrayed. I think inside we all have a piece of us that can relate to these stigmas and that’s what makes it so exciting and enjoyable. It shows us that the natural being that is within us isn’t something to be held in or to be shy about, it’s something exciting and lovable that can bring you a new sense of euphoria that we haven’t been able to experience yet.

TRC: Do you remember the first ‘romance cover’ on which you appeared?

Drew Leighty Cover The Return 1Drew:  Yes “The Return,” by Jennifer Armentrout.

TRC: Do you have a favorite cover-romance image or otherwise? (e.g. magazines, ads etc)

Drew:  I like them all. I don’t think I could pick a favorite because all of them show a different side of me. Some tender, some strong, some athletic, some passionate. To me they show me my experiences that I have faced and triumphed. They show me my growth as a human and my development in my craft. To me they show my life.

TRC: Would you please tell us what you do to relax?

Drew:  I go on dog walks with my family. We go to the beach. I read or chill and watch Netflix. I do whatever my mind asks me to do in that moment.

TRC: Do you listen to music when you work out? If so, what songs are currently on your playlist?

Drew:  I listen to pandora. My current play station is J. Cole Radio. I enjoy his beats and the messages he sends through his lyrics.

TRC: What three things would you like to accomplish in the next five years?

Drew:  I would like to get on a SOAP to start my acting career, so let’s start a #getDrewonaSOAP movement. I would also like to help an Animal Rescue non-profit along with a Climate Change non-profit. Sooner rather than later I would also like to help fund and receive funding for a project I have been working on for the past 6 years “NEVER HIKE ALONE,” a Friday the 13th Fan Film, that I have been lucky enough to be a part of. A story lead by a very creative writer/director who I have known for about 7 years.

TRC: What is something that few, if anybody, knows about you?

Drew Leighty 8Drew:  I eat wrappers to cupcakes.

TRC: On what on your currently working?

Drew:  I am currently working on “NEVER HIKE ALONE.” Along with finding work on a SOAP or TV show.

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Drew:  I would also like to help non-profits for the ocean and marine life, education, and veterans.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 16, 2016

Just south of Fort Worth, Texas, you’ll find a little ranch where the hot, toned cowboys are ready and eager to take it all off and make your naughtiest fantasies come true…

When her sister plans a wild bachelorette weekend at the Double S Ranch, Hanna Stevens is pretty sure she’ll just grin and bear it while the other women get their fill of hot cowboy strippers. After all, Hanna has never met a man who made her really want.

Zack, Hanna’s future husband, offered to marry her and save her family’s ranch from financial ruin, and while she accepted, it was never what you’d call a passionate affair. But when she locks eyes with Logan, Hanna is suddenly overwhelmed by the feeling she’s always craved and never experienced: Pure. Animal. Desire…

••••••

REVIEW: STUD FOR HIRE is the first full length in Sabrina York’s adult, contemporary STRIPPED DOWN romance series. This is rancher/architect Logan Landry, and Hanna Stevens’ story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Hanna and Logan) STUD FOR HIRE focuses on the events at the Double S Ranch. When Cody Silver needed a quick influx of cash he portioned off part of his business into a ‘stud ranch’ catering to bachelorette parties and weekend celebrations. When Hanna’s sister books the ranch for the weekend, Hanna has no idea she is about to meet her past and her future in the guise of Logan Landry-a man she believes is a gigolo for hire, and the man who will give Hanna one final weekend of pleasure before marrying a man she does not love. What ensues is the building relationship between Hanna and Logan, and the revelation about Logan’s connection to Hanna’s past.

Hanna is an artist; a painter, and a reluctant bride whose family has fallen onto hard times and our heroine has had to compromise about the future to keep her family home and farm together. Logan is a man who has been in love with Hanna Stevens since high school but Hanna was out of our hero’s proverbial ‘league’. Throughout the story line Logan offers up to Hanna anything she wants and needs including a night of passion involving some Dom/sub play. The $ex scenes are provocative and seductive without the over the top graphic sexual language and text. The sexual attraction is palpable; the chemistry is electric.

We are introduced to a number of secondary and supporting characters including Hanna’s sister Sidney, and her friends Porsche and Amy, as well as Logan’s brothers Ben, Brandon and Rafe who make life difficult for Hanna and Logan ensuring there is never any privacy or time alone. The brothers’ lighthearted tease is welcome and refreshing. Crystal and Ford from Sabrina York’s The Real McCoy (Cowboy 12 Pack anthology 2015) make a cameo appearance, along with Cade and Lisa (Come Hell or High Water-12 Alarm Cowboy Anthology). Hanna’s ‘fiance’ Zack and his sister Tibby are the requisite evil who intend to make life miserable for everyone involved. Brandon and Porsche’s story line is next in Cowboy to Command.

STUD FOR HIRE has a little bit of everything: love, romance, sex, humor, suspense, mystery and cowboys. The premise is entertaining and enjoyable; the characters are heartwarming, inspiring and passionate; the romance is fated by circumstance and time. Sabrina York’s STRIPPED DOWN series will satisfy the romantic heart in all of us.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: 4.5 stars—SUGAR RUSH is the second installment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult SUGAR BOWL erotic romance trilogy focusing on college student Sela Halstead, and IT guru and co-owner of The Sugar Bowl dating website Beckett North. SUGAR RUSH should not be read as a stand alone as the events follow immediately upon the cliff hanger of book one Sugar Daddy.

SOME BACKGROUND: Approximately nine years earlier, at the age of sixteen, Sela Halsted was drugged and brutally raped by several college boys leaving our heroine emotionally, mentally and physically battered with PTSD, flashbacks and depression. The Sugar Bowl series follows our heroine as she sets out seeking vengeance against those who all but destroyed her life.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Sela and Beck) SUGAR RUSH focuses on the ultimate revenge for sins of the past. Following Sela’s betrayal of Beckett North’s trust, our duo come together in forgiveness and misunderstanding. When the truth about Sela’s past is finally revealed, Beck will stop at nothing to seek retribution against the man he calls partner, in the hopes of destroying JT Townsend once and for all. What ensues is the carefully planned and calculated take down that goes off track when our heroine finds herself caught between the devil and her past.

SUGAR RUSH is an emotional and revealing story. There are moments of vengeance and betrayal; romance and love; hope and moving forward. The premise is startling and intriguing; the characters are tragic, dramatic and inspiring; the romance must traverse a path of emotional highs and lows. SUGAR RUSH is a provocative read with passionate and colorful characters, where fated lovers must deal with the abhorrent truth about a brother and a friend. Sawyer Bennett’s impassioned words will captivate more than your imagination but your heart and soul, as well.

About the book: Release Date August 16, 2016

Tate Warren has never met a woman he couldn’t charm—until now.

Wren Gallagher won’t give him the time of day and it’s making him crazy.

But he won’t give up without a fight… because there’s one thing he knows for sure:

Enemies make the best lovers.

Most women swoon over Tate’s devilish grin and firefighter uniform. But Wren couldn’t be less impressed by his good looks and flirtatious banter—in fact, she seems to downright despise him. She thinks he’s a player, but his attraction to her is no game. Wren is unlike anyone he’s ever known and he isn’t about to let the feisty, gorgeous woman slip through his fingers.

Wooing Wren would be so much easier if she didn’t hate him…

Or does she?

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: TORCH is the third installment in Karen Erickson’s contemporary adult WILDWOOD romantic suspense series focusing on the town of Wildwood, California but especially the Gallagher family of brothers, and their sister Wren. This is fire chief Tate Warren, and bookkeeper Wren Gallagher’s story line. TORCH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but for cohesion and backstory I recommend reading the series in order as there is a continuing plot throughout the series-an arsonist has set his/her sights on Wildwood, California and Wren is the next intended victim.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Wren and Tate) TORCH focuses on the building relationship-an enemies to lovers romance- between Wren Gallagher and Tate Warren. Tate wants a relationship with Wren but for some reason Wren continues to treat Tate with vindictiveness and hatred whenever they are together. When Wren’s house is targeted and destroyed by Wildwood’s arsonist Tate offers up his place, if only temporarily in Wren’s mind. What ensues is the jump from enemies to friends to lovers that may be pushed to the side when Wren’s past comes looking for a second chance.

The relationship between Wren and Tate is complicated. Wren’s acerbic personality and mean spirited verbal attacks against Tate are confusing when there has never been any reason for the vitriol and hatred that spews from her mouth. Tate’s attraction to Wren finds him verbally sparring with the feisty female that calls to his heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive.

All of the Gallagher brothers, as well as their significant others, play secondary and supporting roles. Each brother is a member of the fire fighting squad, and in their attempts to protect their younger sister, things don’t go according to plan when secrets are revealed and Wren takes her anger out on the man with whom she is falling in love. Hopefully Lane’s story is next and the arsonist’s identity is finally revealed.

TORCH continues to focus on search for the arsonist bent on destroying the town of Wildwood. There are a no suspects but the introduction of a new characters is always considered a possible party.

TORCH is a fast paced, exciting and sexy read. The premise is entertaining with humor, romance, suspense and heartbreak; the characters are colorful and animated; the romance is a push and pull towards a happily ever after-for now. There has been no proclamation of love or forever-the story line felt a little incomplete although the hunt for the arsonist is still on the books-nothing has yet to be resolved.

Description:
The paranormal war that engulfed New Orleans seven years ago is over. But the battle for the city is just beginning . . .

Claire Connolly is a Sensitive, infected with magic when the Veil that divides humanity from the world beyond fell. Magic can easily consume and destroy a Sensitive, and if Claire’s secret is discovered she’ll be locked into the walled district of Devil’s Isle along with every other Paranormal left in the city.

Bounty hunter Liam Quinn discovered Claire’s secret, but refused to turn her in. Together they saved New Orleans from the resurgence of magic that nearly destroyed it. But now a dangerous cult is on the rise, and it will take both Claire and Liam—and magical allies within Devil’s Isle’s towering walls—to defeat the occult threat before magic corrupts them both…

Review:

The Sight by Chloe Neill is the 2nd book in her Devil’s Isle series.  The story picks up pretty much where the first book left off. You can read my review of The Veil here, if you want a refresher.  Claire Connolly is our heroine in this series; she is a Sensitive, but she also has magic, which she hides, with only a select few knowing.  If she is discovered to have magic, she would then be locked up in Devil’s Isle, instead of working with Liam, our hero, in learning how to become a bounty hunter.  Claire is also learning how to control her magic, to be able to protect herself. Most people in New Orleans know Claire, as runs a local store for food and supplies.

While she and Liam are searching for a sensitive that lost control of his magic, and become a dangerous wraith; they are approached by a group of people chanting.  This new cult, wants to eliminate all paranormals, including those on Devil’s Isle, and anyone who befriends or protects them.  The leader of the cult is dangerous and thinks nothing of killing innocents.  It is up to Claire and Liam, and their friends to find a way to stop them from destroying New Orleans.

What follows is an action packed intense story in a dark urban fantasy world that will bring even enemies together to help fight off the terrorist cult that has now outnumbered them.  In between the oncoming attack, Claire and Liam finally succumb to their growing love for each other.  I loved the secondary characters that are Claire’s friends,  who will play instrumental parts in fighting off enemy.

At times, things were a bit slow, as you learn so many details on this strange new world; but the story overall was very exciting with lots of action.  The best thing about this series is the heroine, Claire, who made a wonderful heroine; she was determined, strong, loyal, rational and fearless.   As we race to the finish, there are a few twists and turns that were surprises, which will lead us to the next book in this series.  I look forward to see what happens with Claire, Liam and the rest of their friends.

••••••••

REVIEW: KAYDEN/SIMON co-authored by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright is the latest installment in their contemporary, adult Bayou Heat paranormal romance novella series focusing on the Pantera shifters of the Wildlands of Louisiana. KAYDEN/ SIMON is also part of the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series.

____________

REVIEW: KAYDEN (Enemy to Lover) by Alexandra Ivy follows Kayden as he continues his hunt for the man that destroyed his life. Thinking his parents died years before in a plane crash Pantera Geek discovers that they were the victims of Joshua Ford-the man who has been experimenting with Pantera DNA for years. When Kayden sets out to kill the man that murdered his parents, he confronts Joshua Ford’s daughter Bianca- a Pantera- and the woman who would one day  be his mate.

KAYDEN is a story about betrayal and revenge. One man’s need to avenge the death of his parents, and one woman’s desire to remain close to the man who has stolen her heart. The premise is enjoyable; the characters are animated; and the romance is a quick build to happily ever after.

••••••••••

REVIEW: SIMON (Beauty and the Beast) by Laura Wright focuses on Pantera Hunter Tryst- a shifter who prefers to remain in animal form but a woman whose recent assignment finds her coming face to face with male model and Pantera Suit Simon- a Pantera with a secret that keeps him distanced from the Wildlands of Louisiana, and Tryst’s reluctant mate.

SIMON is a story of fractured family dynamics, discrimination and loss. The premise is heartbreaking; the characters are colorful and charismatic; the romance is passionate and fated.

KAYDEN/SIMON is another entertaining installment in the BAYOU HEAT paranormal series focusing on the puma shifter known as the Pantera. As the species struggles to remain hidden in the Wildlands, there are those whose sole purpose is to destroy that which they do not understand or fear about the unknown.

Kayden Simon teaser

excerpt

“Who’s that?”
It took a minute for her to catch the sound of approaching footsteps. Yeesh. She’d thought that she had good hearing. This man must have the ears of a bat.
“I assume that it’s Donald,” she said.
Again he stiffened, his eyes flashing with a strange glow. “Your husband?”
She shook her head. Why was he so anxious to assume she was married?
“I don’t have a husband,” she said. “Donald’s my bodyguard.”
He stepped toward her, wrapping her in the warm scent of his skin. It was rich and musky, and it sent odd tingles through the center of her body.
“Why would you need a bodyguard?” he asked.
She sucked in a deep breath, the tantalizing musk making it difficult to think.
What was wrong with her?
“My father’s a little overprotective,” she admitted in distracted tones.
He studied her with an unnerving intensity. “Is he?”
“I suppose most father’s feel the need to keep their daughters safe,” she babbled.
“He must love you very much,” he murmured.
Did he love her? It was the second time that night that Bianca found herself considering the question. And once again, she fiercely told herself that he must care for his only child. After all, he spent a fortune providing her with a comfortable home and plenty of food, plus an expensive education.
“I…yes, of course he does,” she forced herself to say.
A sudden smile curled his lips. A smile that didn’t reach his glowing eyes.
“Let’s put that to the test.”
She frowned. “What do you mean?”
“We’re taking a trip together.”
“What?” She took a hasty step back. “I’m not going anywhere with you.”
His smile widened, revealing pearly white teeth. “It wasn’t an invitation.”
Fear returned, thundering through her as she tried to scramble away.
“No.”
Moving forward, the stranger reached out to wrap his arms around her. Then, with fluid ease, he scooped her off her feet and headed toward the French doors.

Flirtinis with Flappers by Marianne Mancusi – a Review

Flirtinis with Flappers  by Marianne Mancusi – a Review

Flirtinis with FlappersAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
Unless Dora Duncan can stop it, it’s going to be another St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. A year ago, her (now ex) boyfriend Nick stood her up on the most romantic day of the year at the worst possible moment. In the aftermath, Dora gave up her career TV reporting on real news, and took a fluffier job reporting on such important stories as “Too Stressed for Sex.” And though such clips have a certain relevance, things in Dora’s life have been a whole lot quieter. Maybe too quiet.

Until now.

Now Dora’s suddenly being drafted for a very special assignment: she’s gotta go back in time to stop that very same Nick from making a mess of history. Dora’s first reaction? Clearly someone is playing a joke on her. But when she suddenly finds herself back in a place where everybody speaks easy and cuts a rug, she realizes the joke’s on her…and this old Chicago ain’t no musical. Here, there are tommy guns and torpedoes, guys and dolls, gin joints, flappers, stoolies, rats and a whole lot more; and prohibition means anything but no.

It’s the 1920s. Time for Dora to roar.

Review:

Flirtinis With Flappers by Marianne Mancusi is the third book in her Timeless Love series.  This series is a lighthearted cute story about time travel to a known era in history.  Wheras, the first two books were connected by friends, Flirtinis with Flappers is not, and can be read as a standalone.

Dora Duncan, our heroine, was an upcoming news reporter when she was captured for a month in Iraq.  She has never forgiven her famous reporter boyfriend Nick for abandoning her.  Dora, having left her other dangerous job,  now does local  day by day TV news reporting. She is approached by the FBI to do a secret mission involving her ex-boyfriend that will have her travel back in time to stop the murder of a gangster during the Valentine’s Day Murder that will change history.  Dora laughed at the proposition, thinking this was joke, only to find herself back in the Roaring Twenties.

She is in the body of a sexy blonde, who is the girlfriend of a top gangster under Al Capone.  What follows is an adventure in a time period of guns, violence, prohibition, speakeasies in old world Chicago.  Dora has to act the part and try to discover whose body Nick is in, so she can stop him from killing Bugs Malone.

As I said before, this was cute, and at times exciting story in a dangerous period.  There is a nice romance between Dora’s character and one of the gangster’s men.  Of course, we suspected that this was Nick.  While in danger, secrets are revealed and a love is rekindled.  There are some surprises at the end, when the truth is revealed by those who set up this mission. If you like stories centered in the past, time travel, and cute quick reads, I suggest you read the Timeless Love series.
