ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 1, 2016

Hold On! returns for one, stand-alone, epic event.

The year is 2042. Twenty-six-years after the events in the Hold On! Trilogy, devastating earthquakes and tsunamis are striking in the most unlikely locations. Scientists have no explanation for the phenomenon.

Brandon Drake, Jr., (B.J.) a rookie government agent, courageously ‘borrows’ the INT-Nine, an advanced prototype suit of armor in order to rescue his childhood sweetheart, Heather Addison. Their lives change forever as B.J. becomes the new Interceptor. However, tragedy strikes when the armor fails during a rescue.

While the world adores him, B.J is forced to become a fugitive when Congress orders Project: Interceptor closed down. His life is complicated further by his mother’s belief that he isn’t just his father’s son – but his father reborn.

With The Interceptor on the run, new bonds are made and new heroes arise. To save the world from annihilation, they must join forces to discover the meaning of the mysterious abbreviation – C.O.T.

REVIEW: HOLD ON! – TOMORROW is the fourth installment in Peter Darley’s adult, HOLD ON sci-fi / dystopian series. This is twenty six year old government agent Brandon Drake Jr. (aka BJ), and Heather Addison’s story line. HOLD ON! TOMORROW fast forwards Peter Darley’s HOLD ON series approximately twenty six years after the events of book three wherein Brandon Drake senior ‘sacrifices’ himself to save the world from the man known as ‘The Scorpion’. You do not have to have read the original trilogy to understand the concept of the current story line. Any important information is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person points of view using varying time lines HOLD ON! TOMORROW focuses on a series of unexplained disasters that are currently befalling the United States of America. Brandon Drake Jr aka BJ, in an attempt to rescue his childhood sweetheart Heather Addison from the latest incoming wave of earthquakes and tsunamis, ‘borrows’ the government’s new experimental INT-Nine suit of armor and flies off to save the day. What ensues are Brandon’s attempts to use the new ‘Interceptor’ program to help those who are unable to help themselves and the struggle to get past the government bureaucracy demanding the program be shut down.

HOLD ON! TOMORROW is a sci-fi story line that reads like a comic book adventure – Ironman meets Superman – a hero with a weaponized suit of armor who flies in and saves the day but in doing so finds himself public enemy number one as a number of government bureaucrats deem his heroics a dangerous stunt without permission from the highest levels. BJ becomes the target of a zealous Senator whose actions are questionable at every turn; and threats of another nature from a group known only as C.O.T. are linked to the ‘natural disasters’ that may or may not be natural at all.

The writing style and presentation of the story line are simple; the conversations between the characters, especially BJ and those he ‘saves’ is almost child-like and innocent in nature.

If you are a fan of comic-book style heroes, HOLD ON!-Tomorrow may be just what the Saturday afternoon, sci-fi lover ordered.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 4, 2016

There are all kinds of surprises under the mistletoe!

As a protector of all jaguar-kind, Guardian agent Demetria MacFarlane isn’t surprised to get a call near Christmas—but when she’s sent to protect a cub whose species she didn’t even know existed, her holiday season gets complicated. And it doesn’t help that her partner is a distraction of the hottest kind.

Hotshot JAG agent Everett Anderson can handle dangerous poachers and wildlife traffickers, no problem…but kids? Everett fears he’ll be stuck cub-sitting under the Christmas tree, but working with one sexy Guardian she-cat may be the best present he’s ever gotten.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: A VERY JAGUAR CHRISTMAS is the fifth installment in Terry Spear’s contemporary, adult HEART OF THE JAGUAR paranormal, romance series. This is Guardian agent Demetria MacFarlane, and JAG agent Everett Anderson’s story line. A VERY JAGUAR CHRISTMAS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary. JAG is the policing arm and special forcers agency of the jaguar shifter community.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Demetria and Everett) A VERY JAGUAR CHRISTMAS follows the building relationship between two jaguar shifters-Demetria MacFarlane, a Guardian agent for the special forces JAG unit; and JAG Golden Claws agent Everett Anderson- a friends to lovers romance that sees Everett falling for his late former partner’s girlfriend. When a young artic wolf shifter is dropped off at the local jaguar daycare Everett and Demetria are assigned to investigate the whereabouts of the child’s parents, and the who, what and why behind his appearance at the shifter daycare.

One year earlier, Demetria’s boyfriend, Matt Bruskrud, was killed while on assignment in the Costa Rican rain forest. Matt’s JAG partner Everett Anderson had always had a ‘crush’ on Demetria but the female jaguar was off limits while Demetria remained in a relationship with Matt. Now partnered together to search for information regarding the foundling wolf cub, Everett begins a slow seduction of the woman that calls to his heart.

A VERY JAGUAR CHRISTMAS merges Terry Spear’s HEART OF THE JAGUAR and HEART OF THE WOLF paranormal series wherein neither species was aware of the other’s existence. With the merger comes the USF-United Shifter Force that will be headed by our leading couple-Demetria and Everett, and badass JAG enforcer Howard Sternum. I am not sure if Terry has planned a spin off series, but I am looking forward to more stories focusing on the newly formed USF.

There is a large ensemble cast of supporting and secondary characters including many of the previous story line couples, and a few cross over characters from Terry’s HEART OF THE WOLF series. We are introduced to JAG enforcer Howard Sternum- a bit of a badass jaguar who is called in when a jaguar has gone rogue or needs to be taken out. And of course Corey’s family of artic wolves whose own story has yet to be told.

A VERY JAGUAR CHRISTMAS is a fast paced, sweet story that focuses on a small artic wolf shifter child named Corey MacPherson who brings together two supernatural species during the Christmas holidays. The premise is heartwarming and magical; the characters are sweet, enthusiastic and animated; the romance is passionate and fated.

Excerpt

What do you do when you think your boss is drinking on the job in celebration of Christmas when he gives you the most unreal mission you could think of?
Early that morning, Demetria got an emergency call from the director of the Guardian branch. She was feeling better, but she was on vacation, had had to take something for a headache this morning, and fully intended to sleep for a few more hours. It was only six in the morning!
Then her heart thumped wildly, her first thought that there was some awful development concerning Brayden.
When her boss told her the trouble he was calling about, she immediately believed Ben had gotten an early start on drinking mistletoe martinis in celebration of the holidays.
She put the call on speaker so she could get dressed. “Okay, sir, you’re telling me that the jaguar shifter daycare has an Arctic wolf shifter pup there. Really? That’s like saying they have a Bigfoot baby there. They’re trying to pull a prank on us.”
“I’m serious, Demetria. I need you to go over there immediately. You might know that a JAG agent’s mother owns and operates the daycare, so she called her son Everett Anderson to take care of it at first. Since he was working with you on Brayden Covington’s case, he called and highly recommended you handle it. The JAG agency doesn’t normally deal with guardian-type services. That’s our job.”
Mary Anderson’s daycare? Demetria couldn’t believe it. Mary was great at coming up with fantastical stories and games for the kids, but she didn’t figure her for going with a practical joke that involved a policing agency.
Demetria squinted at her reflection in the mirror. Ugh. She brushed her hair and began applying her makeup. “We don’t handle anything like that either, for anything other than jaguars. This has got to be someone’s idea of a joke. This year, the different branches pulled all kinds of pranks on each other.”
“That was on April Fool’s Day.”
“So, maybe they’re a little early for next year.”
Ignoring her comment, Ben said, “I need you to check it out and report back to me ASAP.”
“All right, sir.” This was nuts. And she hated to be the fall guy.
“Okay, but if this truly is a case of learning there’s such a thing as a wolf shifter, I’m canceling your leave and assigning you the job. This case takes priority over anything else.”
She wished she hadn’t had that third margarita last night.
She grabbed her purse and glanced at the clean kitchen, vaguely recalling that Everett had been mopping the floor before…before he carried her off to bed. Now she felt even guiltier that she’d said no to a date with him today. Was this a way for him to get even?
She headed out the door.
“All right?” Ben said, getting confirmation she was going along with the program.
“Yes, sir.” Because she knew this was all some dumb hoax. Though she couldn’t believe Everett or his mother would be trying to pull some prank on her. She just didn’t know what to think.
When Demetria arrived at the daycare, pretend frost covered the windows, making it look like a winter’s day in Dallas. Twinkling colorful lights hanging from the eves and lights in the windows gave it a real holiday look. The sign out front had two little angels holding jaguar cubs, signifying to jaguar shifters that one of their own ran the place. She didn’t imagine any human daycare would include jaguars in its motif, and she wondered what humans would think of the notion of having a wild animal as part of the branding.
Looking totally frazzled with her blond hair slipping from her bun, Mary Anderson met Demetria outside and quickly ushered her into the daycare. “Oh, oh, I’m so glad you’re here, Demetria. This is just well…just…unreal. And wonderful. And horrible.”
Demetria had never seen Everett’s mother so rattled. Well, except for the time she was helping search for the runaway preschooler. “My boss sent me to help take care of the situation. May I see the wolf shifter pup?”
“Yes, yes, this way. Everett has been watching over him. He starts crying and whimpering if we leave him alone for even a minute.”
“Wolf pack mentality,” Demetria said, as if buying into this. “Unless you mean your son.”
Mary smiled a little. “Everett will be thrilled you arrived to take the pup off his hands. He was the one who called your boss and asked for your help. He was a little worried you might not be feeling well because you were a touch under the weather last night, but he knew you were just the one to handle it. We have a serious problem here.”
Demetria hoped he hadn’t told his mother why she was a “touch under the weather” last night. “Besides the fact werewolves don’t exist?”
“We don’t know who the mother was.”
Demetria frowned at her. “You didn’t sign the child in?” Even though she knew this had to be a joke, she still couldn’t help treating it like it was a real case.
“No. Neither did Heidi Johansson, my helper,” Mary said. “The woman just dropped the child off, then left. If he had been strictly human and hadn’t told Heidi he was going to shift and then shifted, I would have called child protective services.”
Demetria did smell the wolf scent, which told her that they’d had a real wolf, or wolf-dog, here at some point.
They both reached the doorway to a room in the back of the building and looked in. Smiling, Everett crouched on the floor, playing tug-of-war with the wolf pup, the silver aluminum halo firmly entrenched between the pup’s teeth. Demetria smiled at the sight, pulled out her cell phone, and snapped a shot to send to her boss. Now this was seeing Everett in a new light. Though watching him mop the spilled margarita off her floor and clean up all the glass was something she’d never seen him do either. She had to admit she was grateful he’d cleaned up the floor, dishes, and everything.
“Oh, no, Everett,” his mother scolded. “We need those for the Christmas play.” Mary took the halo away from Everett, looking highly annoyed with him.
Everett appeared properly chastised, while the pup looked like he was disappointed his favorite toy had been taken away from him and was still eyeing it in Mary’s hand.

Guest Post

What if the shifter world as you knew it suddenly changed?

That’s what happens in A Very Jaguar Christmas. Everyone, jaguars and wolves alike, were blissfully unaware of the others. And now with one little Arctic wolf pup deposited at a jaguar shifter daycare before Christmas, both their worlds collide.

Can you imagine that? I mean, it would be like if some hunky guy you were friends with suddenly turned out to be a wolf—more than just a wolfish guy, but really a part-time wolf! So they have to deal with not just knowing that wolf shifters exist, but that they have one of their little ones, and where does that leave them?

Jaguars are not pack animals, yet the momma takes care of her babies until they’re old enough to hunt on their own. I was just watching a video about cougars, and the myth that the daddy isn’t welcome anymore might be just that. It showed the momma in a den with her babies and daddy coming to join them! So it’s possible that jaguars are the same. They’re so elusive, it’s hard to say.

In any event, the human part of the equation usually makes the shifter just as family-oriented as the wolf packs. But there are differences. They don’t have the issue of the full moon to contend with, if they’re more newly turned.

But how do you, if you’re a jaguar shifter, even find where the wolf packs are? How do you take care of a wolf pup? How do you convince a wolf pack that you have one of their own, and you’re a jaguar shifter that they didn’t even know existed?

It’s not just an adult issue, either. How will the pup feel about being with a bunch of big cats? And little cats too? How will the jaguar kits feel about this alien wolf pup in their daycare? What about protective mommas?

So I’m excited about showing their worlds come together, to see how they will relate, work together, or not. They do have the shifter issue in common, so they have common ground right from the start. And that’s important. But what about territories? Each have their own territories in the wild. Will that be an issue for them as shifters?

For instance, what if a jaguar shifter moved into the town of Silver Town, one place that is totally run by a wolf pack? Would they object? How would a jaguar fit in if he or she had to run in Colorado? What if the jaguar had a mate and little jaguars?

The Victorian Inn is already prepared to handle a jaguar family with a jungle theme just for them in one of the rooms, but what if the family wants to stay and put down roots? Could they abide by wolf pack laws?

So many questions. Fun and conflict—that makes it fun for readers too!

Yep, there’s trouble in shifter paradise, and it’s Christmas on top of that. So it’s time to make some changes in the natural order of things, deal with the fallout, and make this the best Christmas ever.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 11, 2016

HE SEIZED LIFE BY THE THROAT

Dubbed the Black Wolf for his raven hair, his fierceness in battle and his way with women, Sir Alexander of Talisand attacked life as he did the king’s enemies. But acclaim on the battlefield and his lusty escapades did not satisfy. King William Rufus would bind him to Normandy through marriage to one of its noblewomen, but the only woman Alexander wanted was a commoner he had saved from a terrible fate.

SHE KEPT MEN AT BAY WITH HER BOW

The shame of being the child of a Norman’s rape dogged Merewyn’s steps from her youth. Determined never to be a victim of a man’s lust like her mother, in Wales she donned the garb of an archer and developed extraordinary skill with a bow. Despite her fair beauty, men now keep their distance. No longer in need of protection from other men, can Merewyn protect herself from Alexander when he holds her heart yet can never be hers?

••••••••••••••

REVIEW:  King’s Knight is a wonderful addition in Regan Walker’s Medieval Warrior series. Once again, the world that Ms. Walker continues to build in this series is superb, as is her storytelling .

Merewyn is a character that you will immediately feel a kinship with. She took the shame she felt as a child and turned it into something beautiful: pride and determination. Fiercely protective and loyal to those she loves, Merewyn will, more than once, prove that her determination knows no bounds. Alex is just as loyal and fierce and protective, which he proved as a child when he and Merewyn were children. However, it is defiance in later years that will endear him to all who read this story. It is truly a fairytale come true for them both. The historical aspects of this story, more than any other in this series, leapt from the page. Let me just say, THAT is saying something. I’ve said before that one of the earmarks of a great author, at least for me, is being able to actually see the scene in your mind. Regan Walker is unparalleled in accomplishing that fact.

It was so great to see this series move forward several years and see the original characters from previous books happy and healthy and their children taking lead roles in securing their own futures. Regan Walker has once again written a sweeping tale that pulls you in at the very beginning and doesn’t let you go. Along with a wonderfully developed romance, there is political intrigue, along with a cast of supporting characters begging for their story to be told. This is true medieval romance at its finest. Well done, Regan Walker! Very, very well done!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 11, 2016

The mission was supposed to be simple. Infiltrate an enemy’s stronghold outside Rome and eliminate its leader. For a Breed warrior as lethal as Ettore Selvaggio, AKA “Savage”, stealth assassinations are only one of his many cold-hearted specialties. But the last thing Savage expects to find behind enemy lines—in his target’s bed—is a woman he once adored.

It’s been years since Savage last saw beautiful Arabella Genova. Years he’s strived to banish to his past, along with the fierce desire he once felt toward Bella . . . and the irresistible calling of her blood that stirs in him even now, despite the fact that she belongs to another male.

But when fate throws Savage and Bella together again in a race for their lives, will his long-lost love prove to be the one woman he can’t live without, or the perfect weapon to destroy him?

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: Midnight Untamed begins with Savage having one objective: destroy a major distributor of an illegal substance that turns normal Breed males into bloodthirsty rogues that kill everything in their path. As Savage goes to detonate the explosives he’s planted at the compound, he sees the one person who has owned his heart for ten long years. The fact that Arabella “Bella” Genova is entrenched with the enemy should have meant that she would be collateral damage. With Savage having only moments to make his move, he puts disarms the detonator and head to the compound.

Bella hates that she is paraded around like a trophy in front of Massioni’s cronies and has to use her special powers to aid him any time he wishes. Once he tells her to retrieve her “tools”, she goes to her room to get what she needs, only to be ambushed by someone hiding there. It doesn’t take long for her to realize who that someone is: Ettore Selvaggio. As her heart soars at seeing him again, it also sinks because she knows what she has to do. She apologizes to him……….and then screams at the top of her lungs. Shocked to his very soul, Savage grabs Bella and runs. What follows is a pulse pounding race against time to not only bring down Massioni but to save themselves as well.

Midnight Untamed is a great addition to the Midnight Breed series. Even though this is a novella, it progresses the storyline that should have a big impact in the next book. Savage and Bella are awesome characters and their chemistry is off the charts. While they get reacquainted and Savage learns the unforgivable wrongs that were committed against Bella by her own family, he falls even harder for her. We also meet a mysterious Hunter named Scythe who, in my humble opinion, is screaming for his story to be told. His appearance is brief, but he has a huge presence. I’ve been a fan of this series since day one and have never once been disappointed, and that’s saying something. Lara Adrian seems to effortlessly create her world and leaves me wanting more……every time. If you’re a fan of this series, you will not be disappointed. If you’ve never read it, get to reading! Well done, Lara Adrian! Very well done!

excerpt

Arabella knew better than to keep Massioni waiting. He’d sent her away to fetch her scrying bowl while he entertained his boot-licking cronies in the grand salon. They were gloating over a large payout from a shipment of Red Dragon to the States and the United Kingdom—a narcotic that destroyed the minds of their own kind, the Breed, creating blood-addicted monsters from just the smallest dose. They didn’t care that their sudden windfall came at the expense of both Breed and human lives. She had learned a long time ago that Vito Massioni’s greed knew no bounds.
Nor did his violence.
That her gift had helped him amass his growing fortune, and the power that came with it, made Arabella want to retch.
How often had she thought about giving him a false reading from her scrying bowl?
How many times had she dreaded that her visions would one day prove incorrect?
But she hadn’t deceived him, not once.
And, thankfully, her visions had never been wrong.
Either of those failings would come at the cost of innocent lives. Not her own, but the people she cared about most in the world. The only family she had left now.
It was those precious lives she held close in her heart as she walked over to the cabinet across the room and retrieved the hammered gold bowl she would need for her reading downstairs. In reality, her gift would awaken when she peered into any standing pool of liquid, but Massioni insisted she use the ridiculous carnival fortune-teller’s style bowl for dramatic effect whenever she performed a public reading.
Cradling the shallow bowl in her palms, she drew the empty vessel out of the cabinet. Her own face stared back at her in the reflection on the polished gold basin—but that wasn’t all.
Behind her stood the ominous shape of someone else.
A man.
Tall, immense.
An intruder dressed entirely in black tactical gear.
Bella sucked in a startled breath.
Fear streaked through her, but before her shriek could rip up the back of her throat, a broad palm came up to cover her mouth.
Oh, God.

Saving Jake by Sharon Sala – a Review

Saving Jake by Sharon Sala – a Review

Saving JakeAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
There is always hope

After eight years in the Marines, Jacob Lorde returns to Blessings, Georgia, with no plans other than to hole up in his empty house and heal what’s left of his soul. But with a charming next door neighbor and a town full of friendly people, keeping to himself is easier said than done.

As long as you can come home
Laurel Payne understands far too well what Jake is going through, after witnessing her late husband experience similar problems. She’s in no hurry to jump into another relationship with a complicated guy, but their attraction is undeniable-and perhaps exactly what both of them need.

Review:

Saving Jake by Sharon Sala is the 3rd book in her wonderful Blessings, Georgia series.

Jake Lorde, our hero, is a marine suffering PTSD nightmares, and he comes home to Blessings, Georgia to stay.  He has decided to fix his house up, as his father died awhile ago. Jake meets many of the neighbors when he arrives to welcome him home, giving him many fond memories of Blessings.  But at night, when he falls asleep, Jake suffers terrible war time nightmares.

He meets Laurel Payne while walking home in the rain, and she offers him a ride, since they are neighbors.  Laurel plans to keep her distance from Jake, as she herself has her own issues having lost her husband to a suicide, as he too was a former soldier unable to cope with his memories. Laurel has a cute daughter, Bonnie and works various cleaning jobs to be able to pay the bills.  Laurel also suffers from terrible taunts from her in-laws, who erroneously blame her for her husband’s death.

Bonnie will be the catalyst that will slowly bring Jake and Laurel together; first in friendship and then with love.  Bonnie was adorable, and I really enjoyed her.  Most of all, I loved Jake and Laurel.  They both were two damaged people, who forced themselves to live their lives, despite the ugly scars, and the three of them will help each other fight off the darkness together and bring in the light they so deserve.

What follows is a heartwarming story of two people whom you liked from the start, and rooted throughout the whole book to get together and be happy.  Laurel had a tough time, but her love for her daughter kept her solid.  In time, her in-laws realize that the mother (villain #1), who forced them to blame Laurel was wrong, and it was nice to see them make amends.  Jake was a great guy, and slowly he began to depend on seeing Laurel and Bonnie, as it always lifted him up.  He had to deal with a stalker (villain #2) who was bent on hurting him or anyone close to him.  There were some exciting and scary moments near the end that will bring them together even more.

Sharon Sala wrote a fabulous story that had us hooked from the start.  She also gave us three wonderful characters, and that is a strong point in liking the story.  Jake, Laurel and Bonnie made this such an enjoyable story, even with the hard times they endured.  If you enjoy a sweet romance, with some deep psychological issues, and wonderful characters, not to mention a small town atmosphere, then you should read this series.

Sweetly, Deeply, Absolutely by Kira Archer – a Review

Sweetly, Deeply, Absolutely by Kira Archer – a Review

Sweetly, Deeply, AbsolutelyAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
Hello, Mr. Right…for Now.

With a month off from culinary school, Jenny Boyd has some serious party plans. Especially when the hottest guy in the club literally lands in her lap. He’s 6’2” of cocky, sexy, man-candy, and just as commitment-phobic as she is.

She’s definitely off limits…

Graphic designer Jared Crew is shocked when his best friend’s sister-in-law doesn’t remember him right away. Luckily, she is more than willing to let him jog her memory, no complications required.

It’s all fun and games…until the condom breaks.

Review:

Remember my review of Totally, Sweetly, Irrevocably by Kira Archer (Sweet Love series book 2, available here), when Gina caught her ex in a rather indelicate position?  Caught in the compromising position was Jenny, who happens to be the new featured lead (and Rick’s younger sister).  Not the squeakiest clean of introductions, bit it’s Jenny’s spunk and joie de vivre that will win you over.  Sweetly, Deeply, Absolutely is the finale of the series…and it’s the way we deserved to be loved!

Then there’s Jared.  We met him early on as Eric’s BFF in Truly, Madly, Sweetly (book 1, also available HERE) and have been trying to drag him to the forefront for full inspection.  We might have suspected an attraction brewing between Jared and Gina, but it was merely his flirtatious heart at work.  The notorious ladies man is headed for love and he’s quite committed, albeit perplexed, to getting it right.  Gotta love this guy!

Jenny and Jared are helping out at Street Treats Bakery while the couples from books 1 and 2 are on a second honeymoon and the other is on water-breaking-first-baby-arriving-mode.  Close for comfort is not nearly close enough for these two, but try they will, try they must, if they’re to keep the attraction no more serious than a fling.

“Even though each kiss was breaking down her admittedly thin defenses.  The more time she spent with him-or plastered up against him, she should say-the less she cared about whatever awkwardness would ensue if they went further than a few kisses.  Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.  Jared didn’t seem to want monogamy any more than she did.  He might be the one guy in town she could actually hook up with and not worry about it getting complicated.”

Jared and Jenny are not shy about their conquests; they are confident, they go after what they want, namely each other, and they’re both staunch members of the “monogamy sucks” club.  Their banter was suggestive and saturated with innuendos, but it was just too much for this reader.  Enough flirting — get on with it and stop behaving so juvenile!  Once they succumbed to temptation, shi# got real:  After a rigorous “go”, the condom breaks…along with their ill-conceived plan of keeping things casual.  Who knew “oops” were the greatest gifts?!

“He’d known, obviously, that their broken condom could lead to a baby.  That’s why they’d been worried for a week.  But actually holding a living, breathing child in his arms suddenly made the possibility a lot more real.  And terrifying.  And…  He looked up at Jenny.  Maybe wonderful.”

I’m so happy Kira Archer gave backbones of steel to Jared and Jenny.  While they made light of everything leading up to the life-altering moment, she enlightened them; gave them pause to examine their lives…and reexamine them some more.  Funny how they believed themselves to be mature and prepared for anything life threw their way.  Life lessons come at every age to offer fresh perspective.  Jenny and Jared hope to achieve a mutually beneficial arrangement when they face the unexpected.

A sweet ending to a tasty series.  Ms. Archer reunites all of the central characters to full delight.  These friends are forever linked to enhance each others’ lives and it was so much fun to be a part of their special moments.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 11, 2016

Slick sports agent Griffin Steele is living the highlife in Los Angeles, far from the shadow of the North Carolina mountains where he grew up. But when his hometown falls on hard times and needs his help, Grif reluctantly agrees to commute between coasts. He never expects the lush scenery, in the form of pretty tomboy Carlie Beth Parrish, to be such a temptation.

After an impetuous one-night stand with Grif Steele fifteen years ago, hardworking blacksmith Carlie Beth has tried to make a living and raise her daughter in the hometown she loves. Then, too-sexy-for-his-Rolex Grif blows back into town like the perfect storm, making Carlie feel less like a thirty-something mom and more like an infatuated teenager.

When a stalker targets Carlie Beth, Grif can’t help but step in to protect her. But once he discovers the fourteen-year-old secret she’s been keeping from him, will he embrace the truth or will he turn his back on Steele Ridge and Carlie Beth forever?

REVIEW: GOING HARD by Kelsey Browning is the first full length (second installment) in the multi authored contemporary, adult STEELE RIDGE erotic, romance series focusing on the Steele brothers (Griffin, Britt, Reid and Jonah) and their sister Evie, of Canyon Ridge (soon to be known as Steele Ridge) North Carolina. This is sports agent Griffin (Grif) Steele, and blacksmith Carlie Beth Parrish’s story line. There is a prequel novella (October 2016) introducing the Steele family on their return to Canyon Ridge to celebrate their mother’s birthday only to realize that Canyon Ridge is bankrupt and fallen into financial ruin.

Told from several third person points of view GOING HARD focuses on the purchase of Canyon Ridge, North Carolina by Jonah Steele (aka baby billionaire), and the appointment of his brother Griffin as the new city manager. But Griffin isn’t interested in his brother’s newest acquisition when a lucrative career as a sports agent sits waiting for him back in sunny California. Seeing Carlie Beth Parrish, a one-night stand from fifteen years earlier, stirs up old memories and a new revelation that Carlie has kept secret from Griffin and his family for over fourteen years. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Griffin and Carlie, and Griffin’s struggle to accept his new fate and direction in life. Meanwhile someone is targeting the people closest to Carlie Beth Parrish and the common denominator is Carly Beth herself.

Carly Beth Parrish is a little rough around the edges with issues of low self esteem centering on her less than feminine persona; she is a blacksmith with an artistic flare that has caught the attention of more than one resident of Canyon Ridge. Griffin Steele is a successful sports agent whose clients are rich and in need of personal direction. Griffin’s return to his home town comes with some preconceived notions from both the residents and the man himself.

The relationship between Carlie Beth and Griffin is a rekindling friendship that builds into something more. When Carlie Beth’s secret is revealed Griffin’s already fragile ability to trust is once again tested bringing with it too many memories of a dark time in his past-Griffin must choose between his life and career in California, or settle down with his family in North Carolina. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense. The sexual chemistry is palpable and hot.

The world building focuses on the Steele brother’s relationship, their bonds, and the family dynamic, as well as the rebuilding of a town bordering on financial failure.

GOING HARD is an intriguing and suspense filled story line focusing on jealousy and betrayal; second chances; secrets and forgiveness; letting go of the past and moving towards a new future. The premise is enjoyable; the characters are colorful, charismatic and passionate; the romance is seductive and fated. GOING HARD looks at family and friendships, heartbreak and betrayal in the small town, soon to be renamed, Steele Ridge, North Carolina.

REVIEW: STEELE RIDGE: The Beginning is a short story that introduces the Steele brothers -Grif, Reid, Britt and Jonah- along with their sisters Evie and Mickie, and their return to Canyon Ridge, North Carolina. Like many introductory novellas (and short stories) we get a quick glimpse into the Steele brother’s dynamics and the women they left behind.

Canyon Ridge, North Carolina is a dying town; near bankrupt and on the verge of financial ruin when someone sets fire to the albatross of a community center. Enter the four Steele brothers who have returned to their home town to celebrate their mother’s sixtieth birthday. What ensues is the search for the person responsible for the fire, and each of the brother’s reflection on what was and what they left behind.

STEELE RIDGE is a very quick read that reveals some of the personal background information as it pertains to each of the brothers; their father’s lack of presence in their mother’s life; and a sister who may or may not be the black sheep of the family.

NOTE: Reading STEELE RIDGE The Beginning is not necessary to understand the premise of the series.

•••••••

REVIEW: GOING DOWN FAST is the second installment in Carly Phillips’s contemporary, adult BILLIONAIRE BAD BOYS erotic, romance series-a spin off from her DARE TO LOVE SERIES. This is billionaire businessman Lucas Monroe, and paralegal Maxie Sullivan’s story line. GOING DOWN FAST can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Maxie and Lucas) GOING DOWN FAST follows the friends to lovers/forbidden relationship between billionaire Lucas Monroe, and Maxie Sullivan. For most of their life Lucas Monroe and Maxie Sullivan have been in love with another. They grew up together as next door neighbors but when Lucas moved away to attend college, then establishing himself as one of the giants in the world of IT, he came home to find his best friend- the woman he loved- married and moving on with her life. Years later, Maxie finds herself a widow, near bankrupt, and in desperate need of some help. Enter Lucas Monroe, the man who would be Maxie’s savior when the past comes looking for revenge.

The relationship between Maxie and Lucas is one of friends to lovers; something of a ‘forbidden romance’ between two people who have loved one another for years but life, jealousy and heartbreaking betrayal destroyed any chance for the couple’s happily ever after. As Maxie’s life spirals out of control Lucas sees an opportunity to get a second chance with the woman he loves. The $ex scenes are erotic, intense and seductive.

Lucas’s business partners and friends Derek West and Kaden Barnes play secondary and supporting roles, as well as the love of Kaden’s life Lexie Parker (Going Down Easy #1). Former friend and business partner Julian Dane returns hoping to hear some positive news about Lexie’s sister Kendall Parker- a woman he destryed to get back at Lucas, Derek and Kaden. Lucas’s parents have a difficult time accepting his relationship with Maxie Sullivan; and the requisite evil comes in many forms insisting that Maxie has something he wants.

The world building continues to follow the friendship and business relationship between friends Lucas, Derek and Kaden, and the lengths each will go to protect one another and their future together. There is a slight cross over with Phillips’ DARE TO LOVE SERIES when Lucas calls Ian Dare- a college friend and investor in Lucas’s company-in the hopes of hiring Tyler Dare’s security and investigation.

GOING DOWN FAST is a sexy, romantic suspense story line; a journey of rediscovery for two people torn about by another’s jealousy and betrayal. The premise is intriguing, dramatic and inspiring; the characters are colorful, passionate and energetic; the romance is hot and intense. Carly Phillips’s GOING DOWN FAST is a provocative look at a second chance romance for two people who deserve a happily ever after.
