REVIEW: WICKED RUSH is the second installment in Kym Grosso’s contemporary, adult CLUB ALTURA erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women of the exclusive sex and extreme sports club- Club Altura. This is technology capitalist Lars Elliott, and marine biologist Dr. Braelynn Rollins’s story line. WICKED RUSH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: WICKED RUSH contains graphic scenes of M/F/M sexual situations including anal and oral $ex.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Lars and Brae) WICKED RUSH follows marine biologist Dr. Braelynn Rollins as she reluctantly goes undercover to recover her own stolen research. Months earlier Brae is rescued by Lars Elliott following a hail storm of bullets intended to end her life, and in the ensuing time she endeavors to keep Lars at a distance but to no avail. When Brae finds herself a prisoner of the man that calls to her heart, knowing he has never promised anything beyond a weekend affair, our heroine emotions follow a path of pain and regret. What ensues are Brae’s attempts to retrieve the missing information, and Lars need to uncover Brae’s secrets, and the identification of the people behind Brae’s fear for her life.

Lars Elliott is an extreme sports enthusiast; an active member of an elite organization under secret government contract, and Dr. Braelynn Rollins is his current obsession both in and out of the bedroom. Dr. Braelynn Rollins is a renowned marine biologist whose latest discovery has placed our heroine in a precarious position involving corporate and government espionage, stolen documents, and threats against her life. Brae knows her relationship with Lars Elliott is only temporary but her heart wants something more.

We are introduced to Lars’s close friend and fellow member at Club Altura Seth Termaine. Seth and Lars have co-shared many women in the past, and Dr. Braelynn Rollins is their next sexual conquest. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, and intense with scenes of M/F/M sexual situations. Throughout the story Lars attitude towards our heroine is less than spectacular; she is but a means to an end, and a willing partner in his bed, but in the end, Lars with lose his heart to the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The world building continues to follow the intimate world of Club Altura. The extreme sports trope takes a backseat to the Club’s sexual side in this particular installment.

I did have a few issues with cohesion; at times it felt as though there were some small details missing or the editing process had stumbled with the story line content. The flow was a bit choppy in parts.

WICKED RUSH is an exciting, suspense filled and entertaining story; an engaging and intriguing tale of espionage, betrayal, secrets and lies. The premise is intense and intoxicating; the characters are energetic, passionate and strong; the romance is a roller coaster of want, need, sexual energy and seduction. Kym Grosso will captivate your imagination with the men and women of Club Altura.

Race the Darkness by Abbie Roads – a Review

Race the Darkness by Abbie Roads – a Review

Race the DarknessAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
Cursed with a terrible gift…

Criminal investigator Xander Stone doesn’t have to question you—he can hear your thoughts. Scarred by lightning, burdened with a power that gives him no peace, Xander struggles to maintain his sanity against the voice that haunts him day and night—the voice of a woman begging him to save her.

A gift that threatens to engulf them…

Isleen Walker has long since given up hope of escape from the nightmare of captivity and torture that is draining her life, her mind, and her soul. Except…there is the man in her feverish dreams, the strangely beautiful man who beckons her to freedom and wholeness. And when he comes, if he comes, it will take all their combined fury and faith to overcome a madman bent on fulfilling a deadly prophecy.

Review:

Race the Darkness by Abbie Roads is a dark paranormal romance story in her new Fatal Dreams series.  Xander Stone, our hero, is an investigator that helps the police department solve crimes.  Xander is not your normal investigator, as he has the ability to hear people thoughts. He was struck by lightning years before, leaving scars on his face and body, and also suffers pains in his head with the constant hearing of voices.   For years, he has been ignoring a cry for help from a woman, who he has no idea who or where she is.

Isleen Walker, our heroine, waits to die, to be put out of her misery.  It has been 8 years since she was kidnapped with her grandmother and  tortured daily.  She is on the brink of death, when Xander accidently finds and rescues her.  He uses his healing powers to make her better, and brings her and the grandmother to the hospital, where they will be under police protection. Xander learns that Isleen has her own powers;  she sees visions of things that are about to happen in the future.

Together they will embark to find out who is responsible for her kidnapping.  A slow build romance will follow with two people that are each suffering badly from their disabling abilities. They both feel the magic that pulls them to each other.  Will they survive the madness surrounding them?

What follows is an interesting, somewhat exciting and very dark story line, filled with madness, religious sadistic fanatics, and death.  This was a well written story with a different theme, but it was too dark for me to really enjoy.  I have read dark stories, but in this case you need to be invested in the characters to be able to enjoy the story.  In Race the Darkness, I just did not feel the chemistry between Xander and Isleen, nor did I like any of the other characters.  If you are into dark paranormal romances, you may want to give this a try.

For years Sela Halstead dreamed of revenge, but the quest for payback has been anything but sweet. Now, once again, she finds herself at the mercy of Jonathon Townsend, his hands crushing the very breath from her body. And even though she escapes with her life, Sela fears she may never recover. In desperate need of shelter and comfort, she runs to the one man she can trust. Beckett North has stood by Sela since the beginning. But can he handle the brutal truth?

Beck will do anything to protect what is his—and make no mistake, Sela belongs to him, heart and soul. The passion between them runs hot, even as their world begins to unravel. With the legacy of his ruthless business partner hanging in the balance, Beck stands to lose everything: his fortune, his family, his freedom. But each touch of Sela’s mouth on his skin, her nails down his back, makes it harder to let her go—and it might not even be his choice to make.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: SUGAR FREE is the third and final installment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult SUGAR BOWL erotic, romance trilogy focusing on college student Sela Halstead, and IT guru and co-owner of The Sugar Bowl dating website Beckett North. SUGAR FREE should not be read as a stand alone as, once again, the events pick up immediately following the cliff hanger of book two-Sugar Rush.

SOME BACKGROUND: Approximately nine years earlier, at the age of sixteen, Sela Halsted was drugged and brutally raped by several college boys leaving our heroine emotionally, mentally and physically battered with PTSD, flashbacks and depression. The Sugar Bowl series follows our heroine as she sets out seeking vengeance against those who all but destroyed her life.

Told from dual first person points of view (Sela and Beckett) SUGAR FREE and the Sugar Bowl series is the culmination of one woman’s need for revenge against Jonathon Townsend (aka JT)- one of the men who brutally raped and left our heroine a former shell of herself. SUGAR FREE looks at the aftermath of Sela’s confrontation with Jonathon, and the resulting fall out after her life is threatened, once again.

The reader is taken on a journey; a roller coaster of emotional highs and lows as Sela and Beckett must face the truth about JT’s betrayal and psychotic mind. To add to the already growing suffering and pain Beck’s sister Caroline is pulled into the dark and dangerous revelations about the past, once again forcing her to confront her ever-present demons. The dysfunctional family dynamics continue to fracture when secrets are revealed, and Beck is forced to walk away to protect those he loves.

The sexual and romantic chemistry between Sela and Beck never wavers in the face of potential disaster when facing a minefield of evidence that threatens our couple’s happily ever after.

SUGAR FREE is a revealing story line; an intense and dramatic conclusion to one woman’s search for the men who destroyed her life, and the realization that revenge is not always black and white. The premise is heartbreaking, suspenseful and intriguing; the characters are memorable and spirited; the romance is provocative, encouraging and sweet. Sawyer Bennett’s experience in the world of criminal justice shines through in the events leading up to our couple’s happily ever after but not before she will have you hanging by the edge of your seat.

Just Fine With Caroline by Annie England Noblin – a Review

Just Fine With Caroline by Annie England Noblin – a Review

Just Fine With CarolineAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
Caroline O’Connor never dreamed she’d be back home in Cold River, Missouri, the Ozark Mountain town where everyone is ‘up your business.’…they mean well as they drive you crazy. She thought she’d left town for good, but now she’s back, helping to care for her New York born mother—struck with Alzheimer’s, and prone to saying and doing anything—and her father, the beloved local doctor frustrated he can’t cure his own wife.

As for Caroline, she’s doing ‘just fine’ coping with her parents, her brazen cousin Ava Dawn’s marital disasters, her mostly-deaf dog…and with Noah Cranwell, far-flung relative of a local family mostly infamous for running moonshine, an ex-veteran who’s come to Cold River with troubles of his own.

Caroline believes she knows everything about Cold River and the people who live in its hills and hollers … but sometimes life’s greatest surprises happen closest to home.

Review:

Just Fine with Caroline by Annie England Noblin is the first book in her new Cold River series.  Caroline O’Connor, our heroine, is home in Cold River, Missouri helping her father take care of her mother, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s.  Caroline runs the family’s bait shop during the day, and usually hangs with her cousin, Ava and her friend, Court at night.  Caroline’s father is a retired doctor, and works part-time at the clinic, with Ava watching over the mother.  Ava plays a big part of this story, as she mostly slips in at night to stay with Caroline, since she is separated from her abusive husband.

One day, Caroline notices someone is snooping around the old closed station opposite her shop; to her surprise, she meets someone she has not seen in many many years.  Noah Cranwell, our hero, has returned home to rebuild the station. Noah’s infamous grandfather used to run a moonshine business long ago, with most town folks staying clear of the Cranwells.  Later in this story, we will find out that there is more to the Cranwells and the O’Connors from way back. Noah immediately befriends and takes an interest in Caroline.  Caroline’s deaf dog, Yari will gravitate to Noah, who communicates well with the dog, opening up a friendship between them.

This is a sweet lighthearted story line focusing on Caroline; her friends, family, life in general and her slow build romance with Noah.  Along the way, Caroline finds herself in the middle of issues that arise; such as Ava’s abusive and dangerous husband; the unknown secret between the Cranwell/O’Connor; helping her best friend move on with his life not meant to be in a small town.  I found the story lighthearted, with a simple look at small town life.  At times it did move slowly, but the characters we got to meet were very likable.  If you enjoy a sweet story about a small town life, then this would be a perfect book for you.

Behind the wheel, racing champion Zander Donavan is at the top of his game. But after too much excess in his personal life, he’s forced to step away. He needs to accomplish something all on his own—outside of his famous father’s shadow.

Getty Caster is running away from the abuse that clouds her past. She thinks she’s found the perfect escape—until she discovers a stranger in the beachside cottage she’d been promised. He’s undeniably sexy, but she’s there to heal. Alone.

Before long though, fighting with each other turns into fighting their attraction. And giving into desire sets off a chain reaction that has their pasts colliding. With an unexpected love on the line, can they overcome the fallout to build a future?

••••••••••••

REVIEW: DOWN SHIFT is the eighth installment in K. Bromberg’s contemporary, adult DRIVEN erotic, romance series. This is race car driver Zander Donavan, and bartender Getty Caster’s story line. DOWN SHIFT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary. The reader was first introduced to Zander in the original DRIVEN trilogy-our hero is the adopted and now adult son of Colton and Rylee Donavan.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Zander and Getty) DOWN SHIFT follows Zander Donavan as his life begins to spiral out of control. The demons from his past have resurfaced and our hero is unable to handle the emotional and psychological fall out from the memories and guilt that threaten his career and the family he loves. Disrespecting his family, his sponsor and his family, Zander finds himself removed from the racing team, and tries to regain some semblance of control away from the crowds and the once-adoring fans. Enter Getty Caster- a young woman on the run from her past, but a past that is very much trying to control her present and her future. What ensues is the building relationship between Getty and Zander that finds our couple facing their demons with one another’s support.

DOWN SHIFT is an emotional and heartbreaking story about two people who lost someone they love, and control of their lives at a very early age. Zander’s past is shrouded in abuse, neglect and horrific violence; Getty is a woman who has been manipulated by her father into a relationship that does not bode well for our storyline heroine.

The relationship between Getty and Zander begins as roommates (virtual strangers) at a mutual friend’s cottage, and slowly progress into friendship and more. Zander struggles with the memories of the past but knows to move forward he must face the demons that have been pacing the edges of his slowly unraveling world. Getty is fearful of jumping from one controlling relationship into another, and is afraid of getting too close to a man who is unwilling to reveal a past that is controlling his volatile emotions. The $ex scenes are intimate, intense and provocative.

DOWN SHIFT is a story about healing, acceptance and moving forward; a romantic tale about one man’s destructive slide onto a dark and dangerous path, and one woman’s need to escape that which controls her life. The premise is intriguing, impressive and inspiring; the characters are colorful, realistic and spirited; the romance is emotional, passionate and fated. DOWN SHIFT is a complete, stand alone novel with a well deserved happily ever after.

His Best Mistake by Diane Alberts – a Review

His Best Mistake by Diane Alberts – a Review

His Best MistakeAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
One night with a stranger ….
Security expert Mark Matthews has loved, and lost, and has no intention of ever loving again—especially not a woman who thrives on her life being in danger. Now, hot, meaningless sex with strangers he had no intention of ever seeing again? That’s a whole other story. And it’s all life as a single father allows him to enjoy. But when he meets a woman who refuses to tell him her real name, the game is on, because she’s everything he swore to stay away from. Daisy O’Rourke has bad idea written all over her, but he’s in too deep to walk away now…

Review:

Now that was fun?  His Best Mistake by Diane Alberts is book 6 of a series. It reads well as a stand alone, but it does have some characters from other books.

Both Daisy and Mark have loved deeply, and lost their loves. So both are commitment shy, who wants to love and lose it, the pain was unbearable the first time around, who would want to willing do it again ?

Mark has had a couple of casual hook ups, but nothing serious, and if started to look that way, then Mark was off and running. He has a young daughter from his first marriage, and he takes her well being very seriously. Most women after finding out he had a young daughter, aren’t really interested.

Mark has heard about Daisy, the police officer from his friends. Well meaning partners, as they all want him to find a mum for his daughter, and someone for Mark, but he doesn’t want to date a cop, his first wife was in the military, so he didn’t ever want to have that dreaded knock on the door.

Daisy is different, she hasn’t dated anyone since her fiancé died. Their wedding outfits sit in the back of her wardrobe, she didn’t even get to marry her best friend, didn’t get a chance to sample married life. So for her, single and alone suits her fine. Her best friend is trying to hook her up with Mark, (and other unsuccessful dates) that’s not going to happen, no matter how hot she says he is.

Both meet up by accident in a hotel bar, Mark is totally fascinated with the mystery redhead, at the bar, and after a clumsy start, they start chatting like old friends, the chemistry is there, and when the lady insists on no names (they go by Scarlett and Chris). Mark goes along with it, how can he not, she is ….. he can’t name it, but he sure is interested.

Daisy decides after a long chat with her friend and a lot of alcohol, that it’s time to gently move on. Chris (Mark) is a cute guy and there is a spark. They spend the night together and both feel something growing between them, but Daisy is scared and she runs.
Neither expect to see each other again, but fate has different ideas.

Their meeting later on in the day doesn’t go as planned for either of them, (they are both attending the same wedding, to two of the characters from a previous book). Shock and anger are on the agenda as each realize that they are the people their friends have been trying to set up.

The story progresses nicely, Daisy runs and Mark does all the chasing. He is determined to find out if they can have something special, but can he put Daisy’s job out of his mind? Can he be a partner of a cop? And can Daisy get past her fears, and just stop running?

I have a feeling I’ll be going back to read the other books. This was well written and a few funny moments. Very descriptive and emotional at times.

I’m happy to recommend this book, so if you like a good chase, then buy this one and enjoy

Safe From Harm by Kate Serine -a Review

Safe From Harm by Kate Serine -a Review

Safe From HarmAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository

Description:
There’s something about prosecuting attorney Elle McCoy that Deputy Gabe Dawson just can’t get enough of. Even with Gabe’s family legacy in law enforcement and promising career, Elle’s smart, sassy rejection of all his charm makes Gabe want her even more.

But Gabe’s confidence is shaken when he’s shot on the steps of the courthouse, protecting Elle from a terrorist intent on revenge. Worse, Elle isn’t out of danger yet. But as they race to counter the terrorist’s next move, Gabe determines to prove to Elle—and himself—that he’s a man worthy of her.

Review:

Safe from Harm by Kate Serine is the 2nd book in her exciting Protect and Serve series.  I enjoyed the first book by Serine, and Safe from Harm is even better.  Gabe Dawson is our hero, and a sexy hunk who is known to be a love and leave them type.  Gabe comes from a law enforcement family, with members of the police force or the FBI.

Elle McCoy is a prosecuting attorney, who has had a deep crush on Gabe when they were teenagers.  But Gabe felt Elle was too good for a bad boy like him, and pushed her off to his best friend.  Now that that they are both grown up, Elle hates Gabe, and he keeps trying to win her over not understanding why she hates him so.  One morning at the coffee shop, sitting with his best friend, he runs outside to get something and hears shots.  His friend is dead, and Gabe blames himself for not being there.  It will be Elle, who secretly does care about Gabe, to help snap him out of his drunken depression. The sparks fly, but Elle makes sure nothing happens.   After the murderer is found and convicted, there is another attempt on both Elle and Gabe’s lives, with the suspect shot dead.

The villain in this story is the matriarch of a local family that hates law enforcement, and lives by his own rules, including forcing his family members to help him kill members of the Dawson family, including friends, as well as the prosecuting attorney, Elle.   This was one of the worst villains I have read.  What follows is an intense exciting story that will constantly bring our heroes in grave danger, with no evidence to prove who is behind the attempts, even if they know who.  What makes him even worse was what he made his children do, or he would hurt or kill them too.  This story had me a nervous wreck in some parts; as I began to read faster to see what happens.

The romance between Gabe and Elle was a slow build, with them bonding in need to help each other against a vile enemy.  Gabe will work hard to convince Elle that he is not the womanizer she thinks he is, and he does indeed care about her.  I did love them together, and their chemistry was scorching hot, as they gave into their true feelings.

This was an exciting, tense, action filled story, with an evil villain.  It was also a nice sexy romance, with a great couple that kept us rooting hard for them to make it together.  Kate Serine does a fabulous job of writing this story that had us tense and desperate to find out what happens at the end.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 19, 2016

Being a doctor is everything to me, but I’m not going to let bureaucrats tell me how to practice medicine. It’s about saving lives no matter what, screw them and their paperwork.

When the one woman I could never forget, Ginger Crawford, shows up as my boss all bets are off. The heat between us is tough to ignore but I have to if I want a future at this hospital. It isn’t easy. Every time we argue, I want her even more.

But I’ve got secrets she can never know, and she’s always going to be way too good for me. So it’s best if she hates me…at least that’s what I keep telling myself.

•••••••••

REVIEW: SOUTHERN NIGHTS and SECRETS is the fourth (and final) installment in Robin Covington’s adult, contemporary, THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on a tight knit group of friends in the Washington DC area. This is Dr. Beckett (Beck) Sutherland, and attorney Virginia (Ginger) Crawford’s second chance story line. SOUTHERN NIGHTS and SECRET can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Beck and Ginger) SOUTHERN NIGHTS AND SECRETS follows the rekindling romance between ER physician Dr. Beckett Sutherland, and the hospital’s new attorney and Director of Operations Virginia Crawford. Beckett and Virginia were lovers back in university but our hero walked away knowing that he wasn’t the right man for the gorgeous law student. Fast forward nine years to present day where Virginia is the new lawyer for the hospital at which Beckett works, and the woman he will push away, once again. What ensues is the rebuilding of the attraction and heat between Beck and Ginger, Beck’s desire to become the ER Team Leader, and his struggle to save the world one drug dealer at a time.

Beck’s earlier years were spent on the mean streets of Washington where our hero was immersed in the drug trade and gang wars that were a part of his every day life. Fast forward to present day where Beck will once again be pulled into the mess that provides too many casualties in the ER-a mess that hits too close to home.

Virginia Crawford is an independent heroine whose own backstory is filled with a family battling demons of their own. Her short-lived relationship with Beck, years before, has found our heroine lost in a world of hurt when she discovers that she may be the deciding factor if Beck is to become the new ER Team Leader- a fact that does not go unnoticed by many members of the hospital staff.

The relationship is a second chance romance where Virginia is unwilling to lose her heart to a man who isn’t willing to commit towards the future. The sexual attraction and heat is palpable; there is no denying the pull between our leading couple but Beck’s prior history is complicated, and a warning that our heroine pushes aside. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive.

All of the previous story line couples play secondary and supporting roles. We are introduced to the hospital’s Director of Security Alex Rifkin, and the Vice President of Operations Douglas Bent who isn’t a fan of Beck’s ‘gung-ho attitude in the ER’.

SOUTHERN NIGHTS AND SECRETS is a quick read that looks at second chances, betrayal, and letting go of the past. The premise is slightly convoluted in that our hero takes matters into his own hands as it pertains to the local drug trade-the believability is questionable but saying that it is a fictional story meant to entertain; the characters are energetic and passionate; the romance is fated. SOUTHERN NIGHTS AND SECRETS is a captivating read with colorful characters and a sexy , second chance romance.

REVIEW: SWEET SOUTHERN BETRAYAL is the third installment in Robin Covington’s THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on a tight knit group of four friends in the Washington DC area. This is attorney Teague Elliott, and Vegas showgirl / business entrepreneur Risa Clay’s story line. SWEET SOUTHER BETRAYAL can be read as a stand alone without any difficult. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Risa and Teague) SWEET SOUTHERN BETRAYAL focuses on the sudden marriage between Vegas showgirl Risa Clay, and DC attorney Teague Elliott. Teague is a fixer; a lawyer, on the fast track to make partner but his first priority is cleaning up his father’s past mistakes. When one of the firm’s biggest clients asked Teague to ‘fix’ a problem in Vegas, Teague found himself in league with the Mob, and an offer he flat-out refused. But a drunken night, following his sister’s wedding to his best friend Lucky (His Southern Temptation #2) ends with no memories, and a Vegas showgirl by his side Teague begins to wonder if the Mob’s reach goes too far. When Teague discovers that his Vegas one-night stand is now his wife, his future political career may be in jeopardy. What ensues is the building but short-lived relationship between Teague and Risa, and Risa’s attempts to fix the error of her ways.

Teague is a Harvard graduate; a man with aspirations towards the White House, and a man who cannot have any questionable black marks in his past-Risa is a questionable choice of mate, and would never be accepted by the political elite.

Risa is a Vegas showgirl; a small business owner who owes the Mob more than she can pay, and a woman caught between right and wrong.

The relationship between Risa and Teague is one of immediate regret following their one-night stand. The attraction to one another is palpable but Teague suspects there is more to Risa’s story than she is letting on. Their Vegas marriage will be short lived if Teague has anything to say but time together finds our couple falling for one another. The $ex scenes are intimate and erotic.

All of the previous story line couples, as well as Dr. Beck Sutherland, play secondary and supporting roles. Beck’s story will be told in the series final installment SOUTHERN NIGHTS AND SECRETS.

SWEET SOUTHERN BETRAYAL is an entertaining story about two people caught up with the Vegas Mob; an ‘opposites attract’ romance where political aspirations can be destroyed by reputation, and sins of the past. The premise is captivating; the characters are animated and passionate; the romance is a roller coaster of emotions, betrayal and acceptance.
