ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 21, 2016

Laurie Peterson assumes her impulsive one-night stand with sinfully sexy Sheriff Ethan Booker is the biggest surprise of the year…until her bakery burns down while she’s basking in the afterglow. It looks like her dreams are up in smoke, but then Ethan proposes a deal too tempting to resist.

Ethan has no intention of settling for a one-night stand with Laurie. Nor does he want anything to do with the women his wealthy family wants him to meet. Not when he’s waited ten years for his chance to make his move. His deal might have strings—and Laurie may not know the stakes—but nothing will stop this sexy cop from staking a real claim on her body and her heart.

••••••••••

REVIEW: HARD COMPROMISE is the second installment in Samanthe Beck’s contemporary, adult COMPROMISE ME erotic, romance series. This is Sheriff Ethan Booker, and pastry chef/bakery owner Lauralie ‘Laurie’ Peterson’s story line. HARD COMPROMISE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Laurie and Booker) HARD COMPROMISE follows the building relationship between Sheriff Ethan Booker and pastry chef Laurie Peterson. Ten years earlier twenty two year old police officer Ethan Booker took it upon himself to ‘safe guard’ a much younger, sixteen year old Laurie Peterson. For ten years Ethan waited; bided his time until the girl with whom he fell in love transformed herself into an independent and beautiful young woman, and Ethan Booker decided it was time to claim the woman his heart knew belonged to him. But Laurie’s life comes with baggage in the form of an alcoholic and abusive mother who is constantly demanding money or more, and Laurie’s bakery recently burned to the ground. Ethan will offer up a proposal that benefits them both but losing her heart was never what Laurie in mind.

The relationship between Laurie and Booker is one of immediate attraction but Laurie refuses to add her baggage to Booker’s life. Booker comes from a well-to-do family and Laurie’s mother’s lifestyle will only complicate a relationship with Booker or any man with whom she will fall in love. Opposites attract but Laurie fears dependency on anyone but herself. The $ex scenes are intimate, graphic, numerous and erotic.

We are introduced to Booker’s family including his parents Rebecca and Richard Booker; his sister Kate and her soon to be husband Aaron; Laurie’s best friend Chelsea Wayne (Compromising Her Position 1), and Laurie’s out of control mother Denise Peterson.

HARD COMPROMISE is an emotional story line with a heartbreaking heroine, and a hero who never gave up. The premise is intoxicating; the characters are passionate and sultry; the romance is encouraging and provocative. Laurie’s ‘speech’ at Kate and Aaron’s wedding will cause a tear or two to fall.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 8, 2016

Harmony Wright is a bad girl living a good girl’s life. From the time she was born, she’s always been the good twin. The ladylike twin. The twin her high society (or at least as high society as you can get in San Angelo, TX) mom likes to parade in front of all her garden club friends. She’s gone along with it, too—wearing pearls and Chanel when ripped jeans and motorcycle boots are more her speed. But when Harmony takes off for an extended visit with her twin sister, Lyric, she leaves her good girl persona in the dust …

Dalton Mane knows what it is to be bad and he’s more than ready for the peace that comes with living the good life. Once the crown prince of a powerful biker gang, Bastards of Hell, he walked away from it all when tragedy struck. Now the general manager of the Fort Worth Wranglers, he spends his time wheeling and dealing in the sports world and all while keeping an entire team of football players in line.
When Harmony crashes into Dalton, his tidy little life is over. Will he give up everything to keep Harmony out of trouble?

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW:  HARMONY AND HIGH HEELS is the second instalment in Tracy Wolff and Katie Graykowski’s contemporary, adult FORT WORTH WRANGLERS erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women of the Fort Worth Wranglers professional football team. This is Fort Worth Wranglers general manager and former biker Dalton Mane, and bakery owner Harmony Wright’s story line. HARMONY AND HIGH HEELS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty although I recommend reading the series in order for cohesion and backstory. Harmony is the twin sister to Lyric Wright whom we met in Lyric and Lingerie.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Dalton and Harmony) HARMONY AND HIGH HEELS follows the building relationship between the Fort Worth Wranglers general manager Dalton Mane, and baker Harmony Wright. Dalton Mane is friends with Fort Worth Wranglers former quarterback Heath Montgomery (Lyric and Lingerie #1), and Heath’s sister in law is Harmony Wright. Harmony is a bit of an enigma-reality star, bake-off champion, and tattooed bad girl hiding behind Chanel suits and a string of pearls. When Harmony is offered an opportunity to star in her own Food Network baking show, she sets out to destroy her good girl reputation when her mother refuses to sign off on the use of their co-owned bakery. What ensues is a series of outrageous and not well though out events that focuses on Harmony’s attempts to damage her lady like image, and Dalton’s pursuit of Harmony Wright. The $ex scenes are erotic, seductive and graphic using whipped cream and tequila as part of the sexual imagery.

Heath and Lyric Montgomery play secondary and supporting roles as well as the return of flight attendant Tre (Lyric and Lingerie) who is a little flamboyant in the fashion design department-Tre’s emergency go to fashion item is Duct Tape. Lyric and Harmony’s mother Livinia Angleton Wright is the requisite evil akin to the ‘wicked witch’ and ‘evil incarnate’ as it pertains to her daughter’s choices in life.

The world building continues to focus on family and friendship but there is little to no ‘football’ or sporting reference as it is the off season, and our hero is going about his business on a day to day basis. There are plenty of outrageous antics and shenanigans as Harmony sets out to ravage her good girl persona but as an identical twin nothing goes according to plan.

HARMONY AND HIGH HEELS is a fast paced, romantic comedy with plenty of erotic and provocative sexual imagery. The over the top absurdity of Harmony Wright is questionable under the circumstances as her actions affect more than her own reputation and life-I think a lawyer or PR consultant would have been the better option. The premise is entertaining and humorous; the characters are colourful, impassioned and eccentric; the romance is captivating and passionate.

“Who the hell are you?” Harm demanded, waving her bat at him like she thought it would actually protect her.
“Dalton Mane, I’m a friend of your brother-in-law.” He didn’t say any more. There’d be time for explanations later, when he wasn’t terrified BA, head of the outlaw biker gang she was currently facing off with, was going to murder this woman. But now that he had Harmony’s attention, he continued, “I’d hold out my hand for you to shake, but you look a little busy at the moment.”
Heath’s sister-in-law was really something else. Dalton tried not to notice how sexy she was, but it was difficult to notice anything else, even as she waved that club around. She was built. Really, really built. Large, full breasts, a tiny waist, and legs that would have made a supermodel jealous—especially when encased in those black leather bitch boots.
And her tattoos—he’d spent years dating women with pale, perfect skin, years telling himself that tattoos didn’t do it for him. Looking at Harmony Wright, he couldn’t help thinking that he’d been lying to himself all those years. Because her tattoos were gorgeous. Vibrant, exotic, and dangerous, they added a whole lot to her already prodigious sex appeal.
Then again, he’d always had a thing for dangerous.
“And why are you here?” Harmony’s eyes darted from man to man, clocking everyone’s movements, even as she spoke directly to him.
“Stay out of this, little brother.” BA’s voice was slow and even, which Dalton knew from experience was a very bad thing. It meant that he was about to lose his shit. “She broke my goddamn nose. She has to pay.”
“Don’t you think you’d be better off taking care of it than standing here hassling a frightened woman?”
“I’m not frightened,” Harmony squawked. “I’m pissed. If he comes any closer he’s going to see just how pissed I am.”
Goddammit. Didn’t this woman see what kind of danger she was in? Dalton shot her a look that told her to keep her mouth shut so he could get her out of this. He could tell the look had been received—and rejected—by the fact that she got even more pissed off. And when she opened her mouth to say God only knew what, he decided to hell with it. There was only one way to stop this, and it was time to take matters into his own hands.
“I’m not your brother. I never was.” Dalton waited until BA was looking straight at him, then he punched his stepbrother in the kidneys, grabbed his hair, and smashed his face into the pool table. Quick as lightning, he wrenched the club from Harmony’s grasp, scooped her up, and threw her over his shoulder in a fireman’s carry.
“Put me down.” Harm wriggled and tried to kick her way free, but he held on tight.
He headed out the front door. Once in the parking lot, he yelled back to Rooster, “Tell them not to come after me. I don’t want to hurt anyone else.”
He might not be in a biker gang anymore, but fifteen years of Krav Maga had taught him the most efficient way to hurt someone. And for some reason, seeing his old family circling Harmony like a bunch of hyenas definitely put him in the mood to hurt a lot of someones.
“Put me down. Now.” Harm punched and kicked.
“Not until you settle down.” He carried her over to Cherry Cherry. “You need to learn not to pick fights you can’t win, little girl.”
“What the fuck did you just call me?” Harm demanded, redoubling her efforts to beat the hell out of his back and kick him in the balls.
“Stop it,” he ordered again, delivering a swift smack to her leather-clad ass. The sound made a nice pop in the night air.
It must have done the trick, because Harm stopped kicking and punching. He was just about to congratulate himself when a burning pinch came from his lower back. The burn quickly turned into flaming pain.
“What the hell?” He dropped Harm on her ass. “Did you just bite me?” He looked over his shoulder, trying to see if she’d drawn blood.
“You’re lucky I didn’t kill you.” With that proclamation, Harm popped up onto her feet and nailed him with a mean right cross.
Jesus. She wasn’t a firecracker, she was a hellcat.
He grabbed her, went to put her in a restraining hold, and she easily twisted out of it.
“Krav?” Dalton choked out as she twisted his arm behind his back. If she didn’t stop, she’d break his wrist.
“Level-four black belt.” Harm released his arm. “You?”
“Level two.” Dalton stood, ears ringing as it registered that she could kick his ass.
“You shouldn’t bite people.” He rolled his shoulder—she’d damn near dislocated it.
“You shouldn’t pick up strangers in a bar.” Harm crossed her arms and smirked at him.
But before he could say anything else, Heath ran out of the bar, pulling Lyric behind him. “Time to go.”
Dalton tried to open the passenger door, but it was locked. “Unlock it.”
“It is unlocked.” Heath didn’t slow down until he was next to Cherry Cherry. He hit a button on the remote, but the doors didn’t unlock. “Come on, Cherry Cherry. This is an emergency. We need to get out of here now.”
Nothing happened.
“Come on, baby. Harmony needs a ride, just his once.” Lyric was cajoling. “I promise I won’t let her hurt you.”
Cherry Cherry’s trunk popped open.
“I’m not riding in the trunk of that possessed car.” Harm rolled her eyes when the doors remained firmly locked. “Screw it. I’m going back inside.”
“That’s not a good idea.” Heath leaned over and whispered something close to the car window and the doors unlocked. “We gotta go now. I set a little fire in the bathroom to distract them so we could get away.”
“How big of a fire?” Dalton wrenched open the back passenger’s door and practically threw Harm inside before he jumped into the front seat. Then he pulled out his phone to call 9-1-1. He might have walked away from them, but the Bastards were the closest thing he had to family. The last thing he wanted was for one of them to get hurt. Well, except BA. A little smoke inhalation could only improve his attitude.
Cherry Cherry peeled out of the parking lot and onto the road.
“I’d say a solid two alarm, but since the building is cinder block, the damage should be contained to just the bathroom.” Heath drove like the devil was on his ass—or like the Bastards of Hell were.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The night I met Drew Jagger, he’d just broken into my new Park Avenue office.
I dialed 9-1-1 before proceeding to attack him with my fancy new Krav Maga skills.
He quickly restrained me, then chuckled, finding my attempted assault amusing.

Of course, my intruder had to be arrogant.
Only, turned out, he wasn’t an intruder at all.

Drew was the rightful occupant of my new office. He’d been on vacation while his posh space was renovated.
Which was how a scammer got away with leasing me office space that wasn’t really available for rent.
I was swindled out of ten grand.

The next day, after hours at the police station, Drew took pity on me and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. In exchange for answering his phones while his secretary was out, he’d let me stay until I found a new place.
I probably should have acted grateful and kept my mouth shut when I overheard the advice he was spewing to his clients. But I couldn’t help giving him a piece of my mind.
I never expected my body to react every time we argued. Especially when that was all we seemed to be able to do.

The two of us were complete opposites. Drew was a bitter, angry, gorgeous-as-all-hell, destroyer of relationships. And my job was to help people save their marriages.
The only thing the two of us had in common was the space we were sharing.
And an attraction that was getting harder to deny by the day.

Beauty and the Billionaire-The Wedding

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 15, 2016

Someone’s out to ruin Gretchen’s happy-ever-after on the eve before the big day. Can she trust Hunter, the man she’s given her heart to? And can she rely on her sister Daphne (the least reliable person of all!) to help her salvage things? Or is this marriage going to go down in flames before Gretchen and Hunter ever get to the altar?

••••••••••

REVIEW: BEAUTY AND THE BILLIONAIRE: The Wedding by Jessica Clare is a novella length story line in the Billionaire Boys Club series focusing on the Christmas wedding preparations one week prior to Gretchen Petty and Hunter Buchanan’s wedding. The months leading up to the wedding have been highlighted in Jessica Clare’s spin off series-Billionaires and Bridesmaids that focused on several of the wedding party attendants for the upcoming nuptials. BEAUTY AND THE BILLIONAIRE-The Wedding also follows the building relationship between Gretchen and Audrey’s prodigal sister Daphne Petty, and her personal trainer Wes.

Told from several third person points of view we are witness to Gretchen’s meltdown as her wedding day approaches. From a series of baking mishaps, a winter snowstorm, and a potential blackmail scheme, Gretchen believes her wedding day is cursed. With the return of Daphne things go from bad to worse as the trio of sisters begin to butt heads about Daphne’s sudden appearance.

BEAUTY AND THE BILLIONAIRE: The Wedding is the culmination of several story lines and two series, and months of preparations for Gretchen and Hunter’s wedding. The reader has been up close and personal as the bridesmaids and groomsmen have come and gone never quite sure who will be standing with the bride and groom. The premise is entertaining and a whirlwind of activity but a little anti-climactic with the resulting story line due in part to the massive buildup throughout the series-I was expecting a more extravagant and detailed story. The characters are colorful and familiar; the romance is limited as the relationship has already been established. The lone scene of sexual activity is mostly implied. With the addition of Daphne and Wes, I am going to presume there is another story line in the future and The Wedding is the vehicle of introduction.

REVIEW: DIRTY WICKED is installment 11.5 in Shayla Black’s contemporary, adult WICKED LOVERS erotic, romance series. This is P.I. Nick Navarro, and single mother/widow Sasha Porter’s story line. DIRTY WICKED is also Shayla’s latest entry into the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights novella series and can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

DIRTY WICKED is a short and sexy story as our couple journey across country in the hopes of uncovering the truth and locating the missing information to set them free. The premise is exciting and tangible; the characters are passionate and intense; the romance is fast paced, arousing and dramatic connection between two people who have loved and lost.

excerpt

Nick Navarro had been out of prison exactly thirty-five hours. Long enough to get a good night’s sleep, stock up on a few necessities, and visit his old friends, the Santiago brothers. Then he’d started putting his P.I. skills to good use, methodically searching for the woman he hadn’t forgotten a single detail about during the fifteen months of his incarceration.
He intended to hunt down the bastards who had framed him and offed his childhood friend so he could repay them in spades.
Sasha Porter was the key.
At first glance, it looked as if she had disappeared off the face of the earth. She’d fled her house, quit her job, abandoned her car, maybe even changed her name. But his gut told him she was still alive. She had reasons to fight.
He would burn down the world until he found her.
Nick was forcing himself not to pace manically when his doorbell rang, sounding above the din of pounding rain. He zipped his gaze to the clock. Quarter ’til midnight. Obviously this wasn’t a social call. Had his late buddy’s enemy gotten wind of him shaking the trees for Sasha? Or had that corrupt son of a bitch just come back for another pound of flesh?
With every light in the living room on, Nick couldn’t pretend he wasn’t home. Besides, he refused to let this asshole think he was afraid. So he drew his weapon and jerked the door open, wearing a snarl.
Nick expected trouble, a gunfight, a battle for his life. Instead, Sasha Porter stood under his little portico, clinging near the door to avoid the deluge of November rain. Without a coat, she shivered. An exhausted little girl slept on her hip under a baby blanket, blond curls askew. A ragged duffel bag hung over her other arm. Rain had seeped through Sasha’s tattered blouse. Water ran down her cheek, which was marred with an unmistakable bruise. Dark circles discolored the skin under her hazel eyes, now wide with fear as she stared at his SIG. Cursing, Nick scrambled to holster his weapon.

Demons of the Flame Sea by Jean Johnson – a Review

Demons of the Flame Sea by Jean Johnson – a Review

Demons of the Flame SeaAmazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM

Description:
Raised to understand and control advanced magics, the Fae Rii know they must be careful with the wild, abundant energies of their new desert homeland. They must also downplay the awe they inspire in the Bronze Age humans around them. Still, they have managed to create some equilibrium between the two factions, primitive versus advanced—at least, until new outworlders arrive, tipping the scales out of balance.

Strict and power-hungry, the ruthless Efrijt take the phrase “deal with the devil” to a new level. A treaty may be possible; however, the solution proposed will in turn give birth to a new problem: A chaos that will dance its way through all three races trying to survive in the burning heat of the Flame Sea…

Review:

Demons of the Flame Sea by Jean Johnson is the 2nd book in her Flame Seas Fantasy series.  Demons of the Flame Sea picks up years after the first book ended.  Here is a brief refresher of this series: a group of Fae’s known as Fae Rii, who are Fair Traders, live in peace with a human tribe, making life habitual for them.  Over the years the land now called Flame Sea has advanced into a wonderful community for all, including many fae/human inter species children.

Ban, the Fae Rii leader’s warrior, has been travelling around this world to gather information from various tribes, as well as bring back needed minerals for them.  Near his last stop, he visits a small tribe and learns about another species that is living nearby.  The Efrijt pay the tribe money to pull out mercury, which the Efrijt’s need to help them survive, but the mercury makes the humans sick.

Ban will bring this information home to Jintaya (the leader), and they will ask for help from the Fae council to send them more people.  We get to meet some more characters in this story, some who will be instrumental to negotiate a deal with the Efrijts, who the humans now call Demons.

What follows is an interesting storyline giving us a look at three different species (Fae, Humans & Efrijts).  Jean Johnson has written a very nice story that continues the flow of this world building, and has created some great characters.

This is fantasy and world building that is very well done.  However, if you are looking for an exciting, action filled story, you will not find it in this book.  It a slow build, but enjoyable story of meeting all the characters; learning how they survive together; and how they will handle a new species that could be dangerous.  The negotiations between the Fae and Efrijt has just begun, with the Fae looking out for themselves and the local humans who are suffering; the Efrijt, are willing to agree to terms, as long as they get what they want and to stay in this world.   I expect Jean Johnson will be pulling some surprises as we head toward the final book in this trilogy. I look forward to seeing how this ends.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 14, 2016

When you’re a rock god, fame and fortune are your two best friends, but they can be fickle bed mates. It seems everyone wants a piece of me. I’m being sued, pressured to sign contracts, and fending off rabid women who want to steal my virtue. Just kidding on that one. We all know I don’t have much virtue left.

That’s why I need Emma Peterson. The sharp-as-a-tack and sexy-as-sin lawyer saved my ass before and I know she can do it again. The only problem is that sweet, prim and totally straight-laced Emma doesn’t want anything to do with me. Not professionally, and certainly not personally.

But c’mon. Everyone wants me, and even though it would take a crow bar of epic proportions to get her to spread those sexy legs for me, all I want is her mind. I swear. Her beautiful, brilliant mind to make sense of my crazy world. Good thing I have something up my sleeve to get her to say “yes”. Some might call it blackmail. I call it SOMETHING ELSE.

Looks like Emma Peterson just became my biggest defender. If only I can resist wanting to screw my attorney six ways to Sunday.

••••••••••

REVIEW: SEXY LIES AND ROCK & ROLL by Sawyer Bennett is a stand alone, contemporary adult, romance story line focusing on rock star Evan Scott, and attorney Emma Peterson.

Told from dual first person points of view (Evan and Emma) SEXY LIES AND ROCK & ROLL follows the building relationship between prim and proper attorney Emma Peterson, and sexy rock star Evan Scott. When Evan finds himself in several legal dilemmas Emma Peterson is the attorney sent to represent our hero. With his upcoming indie tour and the potential for some serious PR, Evan hires straight laced and inexperience Emma Peterson as part of his legal team and personal consultant. What ensues is the growing love between two people whose lives will fall apart when jealousy and greed of another kind builds in the background.

The relationship between Evan and Emma is one of immediate attraction but Emma isn’t willing to cross the professional line. Evan has wanted Emma since the first day they met but sitting in a jail cell wasn’t conducive to a relationship start. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top graphic sexual text and imagery.

We are introduced to Emma’s boss Midge Payne, as well as Emma’s father Cary Peterson; tour bus driver Red; Evan’s manager Tyler Hannity; and Emma’s larger than life puppy Sirius.

The world building focuses on the relationship between Evan and Emma, as well as the behind the scenes struggles of an indie musician making it big in a world where super stars and contracts collide. I had hoped for a little more information about Evan’s early years that have affected his relationship with the parental units but he does have a support system in place. And I struggled with the heroine’s actions as it pertained to an event that completely upended the couple’s relationship-her arrogance and pride exacerbated an already volatile situation. Emma’s handling of the situation was immature and childish.

SEXY LIES AND ROCK & ROLL is a story of opposites attract. The premise is enjoyable and entertaining: the characters are vibrant and energetic; the romance is flirtatious and captivating. Sawyer Bennett will add another charming and delightful story line to your romance collection.
