Description:
Alejandra Barros doesn’t know the meaning of failure until fate pulls the rug right out from under her Louboutin stilettos.

Board of Directors’ meetings, corporate takeovers, and jet setting around the globe don’t allow for much of a personal life—and even Ali’s limited free time is dedicated to her beloved horses, show jumping at a championship level. When a freak riding accident shatters her wrist and messes with her confidence at work, her boss mandates a month-long hiatus. If she wants to save her career, she has no choice but to go.

Pebble Creek Lodge is not far from Denver, but the high-end retreat might as well be a world away from the frenzied pace of Manhattan. From the moment she arrives, Ali feels so out of place she’s practically ready to skip the whole “required recovery” nonsense and hop on the next plane back to New York. The only thing stopping her is the ranch hand Hank Mathis and his perfectly chiseled abs, which are intriguing and delicious enough to make her linger.

By the time Ali admits she’s in a bit of a funk, not even the moral and physical support of a gorgeous cowboy is enough to bring her back to her old self—especially when the object of her desires is secretly battling his own demons. To get her life back on track, Ali will have to decide what it is she’s really fighting to regain and what it will take to find it—or she’ll risk losing the one thing that could truly make her happy.

Review:

The Last Resort by R.S. Kovach is a nice sweet romance.  We meet Ali Barros, a high powered executive, who is a workaholic and very successful at her job.  She is also a horsewoman that wins jumping events.  She feels forced to travel home to her parent’s house for a party while there, Ali decides to go horseback riding and has a mishap, breaking her wrist.  Since Ali has always been sure of herself in anything she does, the fall from the horse has an effect on her confidence, as well as her work.  Her boss sends her on a month long retreat to an exclusive ranch resort in Colorado, which is also a place for various treatments for visitors.  Ali isn’t happy to go, especially when a physiological therapist tries to talk to her; and all she wants is to go back home to New York.

She does meet various people, who are at Pebble Creek Lodge for different reasons.  Ali slowly relaxes, knowing she has no choice but to finish the month, and befriends some the people.  The ranch hand, Hank Mathis, our hero, gets her attention immediately; but then again he has all the women lusting after him.

What follows is a slow built romance between two unlikely people that will grow as they begin to spend more time together.  I did like both Hank and Ali, and there was some fun with the bantering between them, as well as with the other residents.  Though I wanted them together, I did not really feel the hot chemistry between them.  I did like Ali, but thought she was a bit too sarcastic to Hank many times, and acted indifferent at times.

The Last Resort was a good story, and a nice romance.  However, I was sadly disappointed at the end, which did lead to a happy ever after.  I felt it needed an epilogue to answer some open questions, and not leaving us to decide what happens.

About the book: Re-Release Date March 7, 2017

He’s about to find out … She’s not just one of the guys.

Annabelle Jordan and her two sisters were orphans in frilly dresses when they went to live with their sports-lawyer uncle in his world of locker rooms, bookies and gambling. Now the girls are publicists in their uncle’s firm, The Hot Zone.

Despite her upbringing, Annabelle is all woman. She’s naturally drawn to real men—like her latest client, businessman and former football legend Brandon Vaughn.

The chemistry is potent, undeniable, irresistible. Annabelle soon realizes that Brandon is much more than just another jock. And that she’d better hold on tight if she doesn’t want to lose her heart.

••••••••••

REVIEW: HOT STUFF is the first installment in Carly Phillips’s contemporary, adult HOT ZONE romance series focusing on the Jordan sisters(Annabelle, Michelle and Sophie) and their Uncle Yank Morgan-owner of the sports agency/PR firm known as The Hot Zone. This is sports PR agent and eldest sister Annabelle Jordan, and former football star Brandon Vaughn’s story line.

NOTE: The Hot Zone series has been re-edited and re-released with all new covers.

SOME BACKGROUND: Approximately 17 years earlier sports agent Yank Morgan became the guardian and parent to his late sister’s three orphaned daughters-Annabelle, Michelle aka Micki, and Sophie Jordan-and in the ensuing years Yank and the Jordan sisters became one of the most successful sports agency and PR firms in the world of sports-The Hot Zone. The Hot Zone series is their story as Yank Morgan struggles to find a happily ever after for the girls (now women) he loves like his own, as well as the fight to keep his own heart from breaking apart.

Told from three third person perspectives (Annabelle, Brandon and Yank) HOT STUFF focuses on Heisman winner , Superbowl winner and former football player Brandon Vaughn, and his struggles to get a sports lodge open for affluent adults and a school/summer camp for kids. A series of disasters at the lodge have derailed his plans, and Brandon is looking for some positive PR to prevent the loss of his investment. Enter PR specialist Annabelle Jordan, the woman with whom Brandon will fall in love.

The relationship between Brandon and Annabelle is a second chance meeting; a partnership ‘arranged’ by Uncle Yank; a professional business arrangement that turns into something more. Annabelle is the eldest, a peacekeeper by nature, a worrier about separation and loss. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate.

We are introduced to Annabelle’s sisters: Michelle aka Micki, and Sophie, as well as Uncle Yank’s long suffering assistant Lola who has loved Uncle Yank from near and far. Lola has been Yank’s assistant for most of her adult life; one time lovers, and of course a surrogate mother to the Jordan sisters. Nick Gregory, Brandon’s lifelong friend and partner struggles with always coming in second to the man he calls best friend; and Brandon’s assistant Mara who may or may not be in love with Brandon’s best friend Nick.

HOT STUFF is the introductory story line that reveals some of the background and circumstances surrounding the loss of the sister’s parents; their rise to fame within Uncle Yank’s HOT ZONE agency; and Uncle Yank’s stubborn and emotional attitude as it pertains to ALL of the women he loves. The premise is enjoyable; the characters are dynamic; the romance is emotional and captivating. HOT STUFF is a sweet, spicy and engaging look at three sisters and the grumpy old man who adores them like his own.

About the book: Re-release March 7, 2017

Micki Jordan is a tomboy as much at home on the playing field as in a locker room full of naked guys.

But the star publicist is looking to prove she’s also an irresistible woman in order to get a second shot at professional baseball player and major league playboy, Damian Fuller.

Micki transforms herself into one hot number Damian can’t help but notice and together they burn up the sheets and find themselves falling hard. Until Damian’s past returns, threatening their future.

••••••••••••

REVIEW : HOT NUMBER is the second installment in Carly Phillips’s contemporary, adult HOT ZONE romance series focusing on the Jordan sisters(Annabelle, Michelle and Sophie) and their Uncle Yank Morgan-owner of the sports agency/PR firm known as The Hot Zone. This is sports PR agent and youngest sister / Hot Zone publicist Michelle (Micki) Jordan, and professional baseball player Damian Fuller’s story line. HOT NUMBER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing story line focusing on Uncle Yank and the woman he loves. HOT NUMBER advances the series by one year.

Told from several third person points of view HOT NUMBER focuses on two relationships: the contemptuous partnership between The Hot Zone owner Yank Morgan, and his PA and one time lover Lola : and the building relationship between Micki Jordan and injured professional baseball player Damien Fuller. Micki is the ‘tomboy’ of the family. From a young age, Micki followed her Uncle Yank to business meetings, into the boardrooms, and players lockers rooms getting first hand knowledge about the ins and outs of the business she would one day become part owner and partner. A life hanging out with a single male meant Micki grew up to be less than feminine, rough around the edges, and always viewed as ‘one of the boys’ but a hot New Year’s Eve kiss six month earlier between Micki and Damien had shaken Micki’s world and shown our heroine what she had been missing in her life. A night out with the boys found Micki and Damien caught in a compromising position that resulted in some down time together for our leading couple. What ensues is the building relationship between Micki and Damien that will implode when Damien’s past comes baring some life altering news.

Micki is a heroine with issues of self-esteem, self doubt and insecurities. Believing she is not worthy of love or the attention of an all-star sport hero, Micki accepts that her relationship with Damien is temporary; a part of their current circumstance until something better or different comes along. Damien is a professional baseball player who never had any plans to settle down let alone go quietly into the sunset with a potentially career-ending injury.

The romance between Micki and Damien is one of instant attraction. Neither one has forgotten about the New Year’s Eve kiss-a kiss that changed their lives forever. The $ex scenes are intimate, intense and erotic without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text. There is a definite lack of communication between our couple in light of some life changing news for them both. Micki begins to withdraw and finds herself on the outside looking in.

There are a large number of secondary and supporting characters including Micki’s sisters Annabelle and her husband Brandon (Hot Stuff #1), middle sister Sophia, Uncle Yank and his PA Lola; Yank’s best friend and competition Spencer Atkins ; Micki’s best friend and Damien’s teammate John Roper, fellow teammate and center fielder Ricky Carter; and Carole-a woman who comes between Damien and the woman with whom he will fall in love.

HOT NUMBER not only follows the relationship between Damien and Micki, but brings some resolution to Yank and Lola’s ongoing love, and opens up a potential future for Ricky and the woman that calls to his heart. The premise is entertaining and energetic; the characters are colorful and realistic; the romance struggles with self-doubt and the fall out from an earlier affair.

He’ll push all her boundaries and make her realize rules are made to be broken.

But with big sister on maternity leave and little sis on her honeymoon, she’s forced to step up to the plate. And a recent media crisis surrounding the disappearance of super agent Spencer Atkins is not going to make the job any easier.

Enter star quarterback and notorious bad boy Riley Nash who, for reasons of his own, needs to track down Atkins. Up until now, Sophie has kept a strict no-dating-clients policy, but each day with Riley makes her rule near impossible to follow. With her job and her heart on the line, Sophie will need to make the toughest choice of her life!

•••••••••••••••

REVIEW: HOT ITEM is the third installment in Carly Phillips contemporary, adult HOT ZONE romance series focusing on the Jordan sisters (Annabelle, Michelle and Sophie) and their Uncle Yank Morgan-owner of the sports agency/PR firm known as The Hot Zone. This is sports PR agent and middle sister and Hot Zone co-owner Sophie Jordan, and professional quarterback Riley Nash’s story line. HOT NUMBER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing story line focusing on Uncle Yank and the woman he loves. HOT NUMBER advances the series by one year.

Told from several third person points of view HOT ITEM ventures downs several paths including the search for Spencer Atkins, and the building romance between Sophie Jordan and quarterback Riley Nash. With the merger of Athletes Only sports agency and the PR firm of The Hot Zone meant the merger of friendship between Yank Morgan and his long time friend Spencer Atkins but a merger that reveals the secret past and life of Spencer Atkins. Hoping to run interference for both of the men that she loves Sophie Jordan finds herself stretched beyond her capabilities when a stranger comes forward looking for answers to the new crises that begins to tear apart the family that she loves. Enter Riley Nash, a man who wants answers as much as Sophie wants answers to Riley’s past.

The relationship between Riley and Sophie begins as a business arrangement such that Riley and Sophie go searching for answers but to different questions and concerns from the past. Riley is a single father who wants nothing to do with settling down, and Sophie needs order in her life, not the chaos that falling in love could potentially bring. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of sexually graphic language and text.

All of the previous story line couples and characters play secondary and supporting roles including Sophie’s sisters and their husbands: Annabelle and Brandon, Micki and Damien, Uncle Yank and Lola, as well as several employees and temps that come in and out of their lives. We are introduced to Riley’s parents Senator and Mrs. Nash; his teenage daughter Lizzie and ex-wife Lisa; Spencer’s eccentric sisters Darla and Rose, and his niece, Rose’s daughter Amy Stone, as well as fellow and competing sports agent Miguel Cambias, and Hot Zone publicist Cindy James. Amy and Micki’ best friend John Roper’s story is next in Hot Property.

The world building continues to focus on the business of public relations for the rich and famous, and up and coming stars of sports. Uncle Yank believes his matchmaking abilities have found each of his nieces a ‘happily ever after’ and now he is waiting for the grandchildren that each successful relationship is about to produce. I did have one issue in that Micki was supposedly pregnant at the end of book two but no further mention occurs in book three-in fact when Yank ‘demands’ grandchildren from each of his nieces, Micki makes no mention that she is expecting or otherwise- an error in the story line or a miscue in the story.

HOT ITEM is a predictable story line in that the premise is similar in nature to the previous two installments: the men are afraid to commit; the women are afraid to love fearing another loss in their life. The characters are colorful but battle one another for control; the romance struggles with a lack of communication and fear of the unknown. Sophie’s obsession with order and control finds our heroine struggling in both life and love when she runs from the man that calls to her heart.

••••••••••

REVIEW: HOT PROPERTY is the fourth (and final) installment in Carly Phillips contemporary, adult HOT ZONE romance series focusing on the Jordan sisters (Annabelle, Michelle and Sophie) and their Uncle Yank Morgan-owner of the sports agency/PR firm known as The Hot Zone. This is new sports publicist Amy Stone and all star center fielder John Roper’s story line. HOT PROPERTY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order . HOT PROPERTY advances the series several months. Amy Stone is Spencer Atkins ( Hot Zone/Athletes Only co-founder) niece; John Roper is Micki Jordan’s best friend.

NOTE: The Hot Zone series has been re-edited and re-released with all new covers.

SOME BACKGROUND: Yank Morgan considers himself an amateur matchmaker. Having wed off his three nieces to professional sports stars Yank sets his sights on his business partner’s niece-Amy Stone-and struggling center fielder John Roper.

Told from several third person perspectives HOT PROPERTY is a bit of a diversion from the original series as the story line no longer focuses on the Jordan sisters but on extended family and friends. John Roper is a struggling professional baseball player whose personal and professional life are spiraling out of control. A disastrous playoff series and ongoing injuries find our hero struggling with negative media and a stalker hell bent on destroying his life. Enter Amy Stone, Hot Zone’s newest publicist and the woman that calls to John Roper’s heart.

Having met several months earlier at Sophie Jordan and Riley Nash’s wedding Amy and John had a bit of history-something that didn’t go unnoticed by Yank Morgan. Yank has a propensity to play cupid whenever possible, and John and Amy are his next targeted couple.

Like all of the previous story lines in the series HOT PROPERTY follows several paths including John Roper’s battle with his extended family-his co-dependency with his mother, brother and sister, and his inability to say no where his family is concerned. Amy takes matters into her own hands and forces John to look at the bigger picture and the need to get healthy before baseball season starts. We are also up close and personal as Amy battles not only her feelings for a man whose lives his life in the glare of the media spotlight, but with a mother and aunt who have a propensity for getting into all sorts of trouble.

The relationship between Amy and John is one of immediate attraction but Amy’s history with the news media finds our heroine struggling with her attraction to a man who is rarely out of the news. The back and forth, push and pull continues throughout the story until Amy pushes John away one last time. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense.

HOT PROPERTY is an entertaining but predictable story of romance and family, betrayal and revenge, second chances and falling in love. The premise is enjoyable; the characters are colorful and spirited; the romance is spicy and hot. The HOT ZONE series is an imaginative look at family, love and the business side of professional sports management.

AXEL: Rescue One (Six Saviors 13 ): Rescue One by Carly Fall-Review and Guest Post

About the book: Release Date March 19, 2017

With his tattoos, dark, dead eyes and sketchy past, almost everyone in the silo keeps their distance.

However, people aren’t always what they seem.

Is there more to Axel than meets the eye?

••••••••••

REVIEW: AXEL is the thirteenth installment in Carly Fall’s contemporary, adult SIX SAVIORS paranormal/sci-fi romance series focusing on a species from the planet SR44. This is SR44ian Axel a member of the Rescue One team from planet SR44, and half human/half SR44ian Eden’s story line. Eden is the daughter of one of the original Six Saviors Hudson. AXEL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for background and cohesion.

BACKGROUND: There were 6 original Savior warriors from planet SR44. The warriors were sent to earth over 220 years ago to stop and eradicate the 12 murderers who escaped from one of the moon colonies of planet SR44. The Colonists, as they were soon called, made their way to Earth, took the human body form, mated with the females and populated the earth with Colonist DNA. The earthly descendants will either manifest good or bad qualities; the savior warriors are part of the elite military from planet SR44, commissioned to remove the Colonists from Earth including the descendants with bad DNA. The beings on planet SR44 are incorporeal bodies of mist and smoke, each bearing a different color, but in their corporeal bodies on Earth, their eyes will glow their familiar- planet SR44 color each evening. Their mission has yet to be completed; their planet has been destroyed; and a new group of SR44 men and women have arrived in search of the original six saviors.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Axel and Eden) AXEL focuses on the forbidden relationship between Axel and Eden-a relationship forbidden by the man Eden recently learned was her father. Hudson and the rest of the SR44 males don’t trust Axel-he is dark, brooding, and silent, and not without some demons that are slowly destroying what’s left of his mind. With the recent discovery of Eden and her twin brother Benedict as direct descendants of SR44ian Hudson, the Saviors and their mates have taken extra precautions to protect our story line heroine believing she is too naïve and young to understand the world around her. What ensues are Eden’s attempts to bring Axel into her life, and the ongoing battle with a new enemy determined to destroy the SR44ians.

The relationship between Axel and Eden is one of immediate attraction although Axel has been warned not to go near or interact with Hudson’s daughter. Eden is a strong willed female determined to exert her independence and in doing so places herself in a dangerous situation. The $ex scenes are intimate and compelling without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

Most of the previous story line couples play secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Axel’s friend and tattoo artist Foster whose story will be continued in Carly’s new spin off series-OPERATION UNDERWORLD- a series about a clandestine organization whose members have special abilities to hunt those paranormal entities determined to cause harm to humans. The first book in the series comes out in April 2017.

AXEL is a story about one man whose dark past controls his present, and one woman whose looking for love from a man who is afraid to let go. The premise is heartbreaking, encouraging and sensitive; the characters are colorful and energetic; the romance is provocative and passionate. Carly Fall ‘s SIX SAVIORS series is an impassioned look at otherworldly beings trying to do the best in an impossible situation.

Guest Post

Imagine waking up in a hospital and noticing a red glow around some of the staff. Perhaps you would think that you’d hurt your head in the accident that put you there, but when you see these people flashing their fangs and drinking off of the patients and other members of the staff, maybe you’d think you’d completely lost your mind!
But, have you?

For Connor Dickson, the answer is a resounding no as he comes to terms with the fact he can see vampires, and they live and work among the human population.

Welcome to Operation Underworld!

Operation Underworld

When my fellow author Elise Marion approached me with the idea of us collaborating on this project, I was on board within seconds. I loved the idea of writing books about a clandestine organization that polices the paranormal entities secretly living among us!

I will be releasing the first three books in the series: A Touch of Blood, A Touch of Love, and A Touch of Death.

All three of these will be releasing in April / May so that readers don’t have to wait. Elise will be tackling demons in her first three books, releasing May / June.

Here’s the blurb to my first book, A Touch of Blood:

He cheated death once. Can he do it again?

After surviving an explosion deep in the heart of the Guatemalan jungle, Marine Connor Dickson has been left with a supernatural ability—he can detect vampires living among the human population.

With this knowledge comes the realization that there are good and evil among the vampire nation. After witnessing a horrific death at the hands of a vampire, it becomes his own personal mission to police the rogue entities and stop them from harming humans.

He is recruited into Operation Underworld, an organization where their sole purpose is to hunt the criminal entities of paranormal species. His first assignment is to find out why humans are going missing from nightclubs in Los Angeles.

When he meets the beautiful Sami Karim, he discovers they are working on the same missing persons case. As his attraction to her grows, he can’t shake the feeling that she’s hiding many secrets, as well as lying to him.

A shocking twist of events reveals Sami’s true agenda, leaving Connor devastated, fearing for his own safety, and ultimately, forced to face his enemy on his own.

•••••

REVIEW: TEASE ME, BABY is the second installment (and novella) in Katie Reus’s contemporary, adult O’CONNOR FAMILY erotic, small-town romance series focusing on the O’Connor Family of Holly, North Carolina. This is sheriff Brad Fulton, and pastry chef Fallon O’Connor’s story line. TEASE ME, BABY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Fallon and Brad) TEASE ME, BABY focuses on the building romance between Holly, North Carolina’s sheriff Brad Fulton, and pastry chef Fallon O’Connor. A drunken New Year’s Eve kiss from Fallon O’Connor had Brad Fulton thinking about a future with the woman that has starred in his fantasies for close to one year. One year earlier Fallon O’Connor returned to her hometown of Holly, North Carolina, set up business but has struggled with her place in the family and back in town. Her attraction to sheriff Brad Fulton found our heroine lusting after a man she believes is too perfect for the likes of her but a commitment to attend culinary school out West finds Fallon preparing to leave Holly just as things start heating up between her and the sexy sheriff next door. TEASE ME, BABY is a quick read; a fast paced story of insta-love between a successful pastry chef and the town’s resident boy scout-Sheriff Fulton. There is no major story line conflict but the heroine’s decision whether to head out West or stay in Holly and pursue a relationship with the man that she loves. The premise is entertaining and lighthearted; the romance is spicy and sexy; the characters are passionate.

CROSSROADS (Wind Dragons MC #6) by Chantal Fernando-a review

Crossroads

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO /

From New York Times bestselling author Chantal Fernando comes the latest in the Wind Dragons Motorcycle Club series featuring a red-hot romance and plenty of mystery!

Ranger is at a crossroads: he has a chance to leave the motorcycle club and do something else with his life—but he keeps getting dragged back. When the Wind Dragons Motorcycle Club asks for his help, Ranger agrees, not only because it is hard to say no to them, but also because he has a vested interest.

A woman is missing.

And Ranger knows her.

The Wind Dragons aren’t the only ones hoping this girl can be found—on the hunt is Johanna Chase, a stubborn detective who won’t give up until the missing woman is found safe. She needs Ranger to navigate the underground world of motorcycle clubs, and immediately, sparks fly. Ranger fights the attraction. He has no plans on going there, no matter how beautiful and badass she is. A biker and a cop? Ridiculous.

But the two of them soon realize that they’re in way over their heads, and now they have to trust each other in order to save her. With the WDMC and the police force at their back, it should be no problem, right?

••••••••••

REVIEW: CROSSROADS is the sixth full length installment in Chantal Fernando’s contemporary, adult WIND DRAGONS erotic, MC romance series focusing on the men and women of the Wind Dragons Motorcycle Club. This is former member of the Wild Men MC Ranger, and police officer Johanna Chase. CROSSROADS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary although I recommend reading the series in order for cohesion and backstory.

Told from dual first person points of view (Ranger and Johanna) CROSSROADS focuses on the search for a missing woman. Ranger has been tasked to work with the local police on the hunt for a missing woman named Elizabeth-a woman Ranger knows only too well from his earlier days in school. Enter police officer Johanna ‘Jo’ Chase-the missing woman’s cousin- and the woman that calls to Ranger’s heart. What ensues is the forbidden romance between a member of the Wind Dragons MC, and a police officer sworn to uphold the law as they search for not one but several missing females believed to have been abducted by another MC.

The attraction between Ranger and Jo is immediate but Jo knows that to get involved with a member of the Wind Dragon MC could spell disaster for her career and Ranger’s reputation. As the investigation and search for Jo’s cousin builds, so too does the attraction and relationship between our leading couple. The $ex scenes are intimate, seductive and erotic without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including many members of the Wind Dragon MC, as well as Johanna’s partner on the force Travis. Faye and Sin return as well as a number of the other ‘old ladies’ in the Club. It is always fun to watch Faye work her magic with the big, burly bikers including our leading hero.

CROSSROADS is a story about finding love and making choices. Ranger is at a crossroads in his personal and private life. The MC lifestyle is no longer working and he will have to make a decision between his current path or towards a happily ever after with the woman he loves. The premise is intriguing and encouraging; the characters are dynamic and spirited; the romance is emotional, heartwarming and passionate. The conflict between Jo and Ranger focused too much on Johanna’s need to sacrifice love for a family member whose childish behavior caused some unpleasant moments between Johanna and Ranger-I wasn’t a fan but hey….every story needs some sort of conflict!

Description:
They are the Arctic Brotherhood.

They are deadly fighters, fierce protectors and loyal mates.

Elliott Wilder is a mild mannered Alaskan college professor. Wilder craves the things most people find boring. Seclusion. Monotony. Anonymity. But what Wilder craves most of all is the thing he can’t have… memory loss. Four hundred years ago, Wilder and the other members of the Arctic Brotherhood were captured and tortured by the leader of the Siberian werewolves. Wilder is still haunted by memories of that night, when he wasn’t able to protect his leader.

Now the Siberian wolf is on the loose and seeking revenge. Not only must Wilder lead the brotherhood, he must fight the attraction he feels toward its newest recruit, Jenny Piper. Jenny offers Wilder a glimpse of the life he can’t have. As the brotherhood races against time to save humanity from the horror their enemies unleashed on the world, Wilder must reach inside himself to find the leader the brotherhood needs and the mate Jenny craves.

Review:

Ice Wolf by Jane Godman is the 1st book in her Arctic Brotherhood series.  This is a shifter series, with a new ancient species of Arctic werewolves, who are part of the 7 members of the Brotherhood of the Midnight Sun. The story begins 400 hundred years earlier, when the Siberian wolves were about to destroy the Arctic wolves; but at the last minute, the newest member of the Arctic Brotherhood managed to save his leader.  Switch to the present time, and we meet Elliot Wilder, a professor who is a loner, and content to live in solitude.  He is approached by someone he has not seen in 400 years, the leader of the Arctic wolves, and is asked to help gather the brotherhood together to fight someone so very evil that will destroy the world.   But Wilder has no intention to go back to that life, until he meets our heroine, Jenny Piper.   Jenny has always been alone, and now that she recognizes Wilder as one of her kind, she is determined to become part of a family.

Jenny is a strong heroine, a female alpha, who is accepted to the Arctic Brotherhood.  Wilder immediately is attracted to Jenny, but fights off those feelings, as he hasn’t told anyone about his nightmares of the time 400 years ago.  It will be Jenny who will help Wilder though those nightmares, and convince him to help his brothers, as his assistance is necessary to defeat the enemy, as humans across the world are threatened for destruction.

Wilder steps up, as he sees his Arctic brothers, and together they travel to the Land of the Midnight, where it all began to try to kill the Siberian wolf leader who is behind the threat.  But as they meet the wolf goddess, they are met with some major twists that changes the game, and escalates the danger.   Fenrir, the most evil and powerful wolf, has escaped his captivity, and in the guise of a cult leader, he is quickly brainwashing all humans to follow him; and then destroy them all.  Can the Arctic wolves stop Fenrir in time?

What follows is an exciting adventure steeped in Norse mythology, with edge of your seat non-stop action.  Wilder will step into the role of leader, especially after Jenny’s life is in danger.  Jenny made a wonderful partner to Wilder, and tense exciting race to catch Fenrir brought the entire team together to try and save the world.  This was an excellent start to a different shifter series, which will continue in future books, with each member of the Arctic Brotherhood taking a leading role in more upcoming dangerous missions.   I loved all the characters that made this Brotherhood. I look forward to reading the next book, Shadow Wolf.

Review:

Shadow Wolf by Jane Godman is the 2nd book in her Arctic Brotherhood series. Having enjoyed the first book in this series, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Shadow Wolf was equally or a bit better then Ice Wolf.

In Shadow Wolf, Samson Lee takes the lead, as he is summoned by his friend, a former retired member of the Arctic Brotherhood.  Seems that his daughter, is missing, and he wants Samson to find her.  Valetta Rickard, our heroine, has gone undercover, joining a group of Arctic Wolves (not the Brotherhood).  Valetta is determined to find out who is trying to kill her father, as well as discover the truths about the legend of Shadow Born.  When Samson finds her, she is considered the leader of this group of Arctic misfits, and he joins the group to help her.  Samson senses not all is right, and once he convinces Valetta that something is very wrong, they begin to work together to discover what is really happening.

Valetta has always had a crush on Samson, but he has always treated her like his friends daughter, keeping his distance.  Samson lost his wife hundreds of years before, being murdered in an attack; he blames himself and for all those years he has not looked at another woman.  Valetta in a short time, with them being together during the adventure, slowly uses her charms and feelings to weaken Samson’s resolve.   They made such a great couple, and both were also very powerful.   The story line of the Shadow born was very interesting, which added to the element of finding the truth of her past, and who is behind the evil.

The action became especially exciting when the entire Arctic Brotherhood joins Samson and Valetta to stop the evil behind the mask.  Not only was it very exciting, but also surprising as another evil being from hundreds of years ago is the villain.  Valetta will learn the truth about who she is, and there are some very emotional moments, as well as dangerous death defying moments.  Shadow Wolf was an excellent story, which I read in one day.  I look forward to the next installment of the Arctic Brotherhood series, and to see what Jane Godman has in store for us.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 7, 2017

Only a Scot can steal her heart.
There’s nothing ladylike about Katherine Killin. She’s a spitfire who cannot be tamed. To rid himself of her, and to honor a truce set by the Duke of Glencoe, her father agrees to wed her to his clan’s mortal enemy, Ben Rannoch. But when Katherine meets the enticingly masculine Kirk Rannoch, brother of her betrothed, she suddenly craves domination.

REVIEW: Bedding the Highlander is a Book Shots Flames brand. This is a selection of stories that are well written with a sizzling romantic theme to their genre; today’s review is BEDDING THE HIGHLANDER by Sabrina York, presented by James Patterson. The books are priced at under $5.00 US and have approximately only 150 pages. Designed to be read in an evening or at work on lunch hours, etc. Interesting idea, but I, personally, love a good long well written story. But then, I’m retired and have lots of time to read.

Now to this captivating story.

The story is about rival clans in Glencoe, Scotland in 1603. The Duke of Glencoe, in order to try to make an alliance for peace, has ordered the marriage of Katherine Killin to the rival clan laird Ben Rannoch.

Kirk Rannoch, brother of Ben, and his friend Brodie have been assigned to bring Katherine from the Killin stronghold to the Rannoch keep to be wed to Ben. They are, understandably, reluctant to enter the Killin keep, as many don’t return. Unfortunately, when they do, they find the wrong Catherine…no misspelling, it seems many of the Killian Laird’s daughters, mostly illegitimate, are named a form of Catherine. However, they notice the one presented does not have the signature red hair of the real Katherine Killin. They are told the real Katherine has run off rather than be wed to their enemy and they don’t know where she is. Reluctantly, they leave.
During the trip back, while camping at night, two thieves try to take the men’s horses. They capture them only to find that they are females and both have a form of red hair. A romance between “Ann” (aka Katherine) and Kirk is immediate and sizzling.

Okay, that’s the set up and the rest must be read to be enjoyed. It’s only 150 pages and doesn’t take long. I found it to be incredibly entertaining and very well written. I loved her solution for not having to marry the laird…possibly brave, possibly foolish but very interesting! Sabrina York is a fine author and writes a very inventive period novel.

Give it a shot!

Interview

TRC: Hi Sabrina. Welcome to The Reading Cafe.

Sabrina YorkSabrina: Thank you so much for having me! I am excited to be here!

TRC: We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Sabrina: Absolutely! My name is Sabrina York and I LOVE writing steamy, snarky romances…but I have ADD and enjoy writing in all sub genres (historical, contemporary, SEALs, Dukes, Highlanders and so on!).

Though I am predominantly published in romance, I also love writing in other genres like women’s fiction, fantasy, sci fi and more.

I think trying new things is important for working the writing muscles and keeps my writing fresh and fun.

TRC: Who or what influenced your career in writing?

Sabrina: My greatest influence was my mother, who refused to let me use my dyslexia as an excuse for not being an overachiever. She convinced me at an early age that this difficulty was actually a gift, because it allowed me to see things in ways other people might miss.

Indeed, it has been a gift, and so was having a mother so determined to help me succeed.

Although, I must say, I am also thankful for spellcheck and editors!

TRC: What challenges or difficulties have you encountered writing and publishing your stories?

Sabrina: Dyslexia aside, I worked for years writing and polishing my work. I submitted to hundreds of editors and agents and received an encyclopedia full of rejections. Though my work won many awards, I just couldn’t seem to sell.

And then, just when I was about to give up (for a career of sitting on the sofa, eating bon bons and watching Toddlers in Tiaras) I miraculously sold my first book.

My advice to writers who are struggling is: Don’t give up. Keep trying.

Now that I am published (in traditional and indie worlds) my challenges are balancing projects with the business side of things. There are so many things I have to do that I never imagined.

It would be wonderful if being an author meant sitting back and writing books, but there is so much more to it, including accounting (ick), marketing, social media, events, conferences and more (especially for Indie writers!)

Bedding the HighlanderTRC: Would you please tell us something about BEDDING THE HIGHLANDER?

Sabrina: I am so excited about this story! It has been a glorious experience working with James Patterson, Laura Fazio and the team at Hachette!

The core story is that with the death of the queen and the ascension of James VI—and the union of the crowns between Scotland and England—the world has turned on its ear. The new king is determined to make the transition a peaceful one. He is adamant that Scotland not be seen as a land of savages, but loyal, peaceful subjects of the crown. He has commanded his dukes to maintain peace and squash unrest at all costs.

In light of the rising turmoil and increased hostilities amongst his highland clans, Nicholas Lennox, the Duke of Glencoe—acting on explicit orders from the newly ascended King James VI—has issued an ultimatum to his unmarried lairds, demanding they unite with their rival clans…through marriage.

As logical as this plan is, nothing seems to go right.

His first declaration is that Ben Rannoch, Laird of Rannoch should marry Katherine Killin, daughter of Cuithbeart Killin (The Rannoch’s mortal enemy).

In Bedding the Highlander, Kirk Rannoch is sent to collect his brother’s intended. He has no idea that Katherine is far from a biddable wench. The plucky redhead has decided to seduce Kirk in hopes of scuttling a wedding to his brother, the Beast of Rannoch.

Imagine Kirk’s chagrin when he realizes the woman he had bedded is not the maid he thought her to be, but his brother’s bride!

I came up with this idea when my husband and I were visiting Scotland last September. I’d never been there before and it was a wonderful time. One of the villages we visited was Kinloch Rannoch, the town my mother’s people came from. I decided that my next Highland romp had to take place there!

TRC: How do you keep the plot(s) unpredictable without sacrificing content and believability?

Sabrina: I live by a maxim that an author can do whatever she wants, as long as she does it well. So no matter the twists and turns I fold into the plot, they have to be masterfully executed.

You get a feeling in your gut, a little niggle, when things aren’t right. I’ve learned you cannot ignore that, no matter how much work it is to rewrite. I’ve also learned I am always so much happier when I get it right!

One of my favorite things to do is lead the reader down the garden path, make her expect that something typical will happen, and then flip the script! The secret here is having fully-formed characters who behave in genuine and authentic ways. Needless to say, I lean toward strong, determined and sometimes stubborn heroines.

TRC: Have you ever had the opportunity to visit the Highlands of Scotland, and if so, how much of an influence or impact did the visit have on your stories?

Sabrina: I most certainly did, but sadly, only one time. I would love to go back.

Laird of her HeartIt was fascinating visiting historical sites like Urquhart Castle (which featured in my Highland Time Travel, Laird of her Heart) and the battlefield at Culloden, thinking of all the lives that had been lived and lost in these places. We took a tour of the north coast where my Untamed Highlander Series took place.

Standing on the cliffs at Duncansby Head Lighthouse and staring out over the cold grey waters of the North Sea gave me a new appreciation for the strength and stamina of the Scottish people.

I took hundreds of pictures so I would remember the feelings, the sights and the faces. Some things change with the times, but others don’t. I often felt I had stepped back in time.

Mostly, I was suffused with this amazing feeling of coming home, which makes sense, because my mother’s people are Stewarts.

TRC: You write several different genres. Which do you prefer? Which do you find the most difficult?

Sabrina: I love writing them all, because when I switch, it’s almost like taking a break. It makes work feel less like work. J

The genre I find most difficult is the one I am working on at any given time.

Don’t get me wrong. I love my job. But it ain’t easy!

TRC: Do you believe the cover image plays a deciding factor for many readers in the process of selecting a book or new series to read?

Sabrina: I believe the cover is the most important element these days because a good 90% of readers are buying books online. The cover is the first thing they notice, there in a sea of covers.

It has to be stellar, and it has to reflect the story accurately.

In polls I’ve done with my lovely street team, the cover is always the top ranking decision factor, with “An Author I Know and Love” as number two. That’s why it is also critical to write consistently excellent books and give the reader what they want.

From a personal perspective, I also believe that relationships are super important in this business, whether it is with publishers, other authors, industry professionals and, of course, readers. I offer lots of ways to connect with my readers from my VIP Facebook room, to my Street Team and a newsletter that offers exclusive contests and content.

Yes, it takes time away from writing to foster and maintain these relationships, but it think it is important to know for whom I am writing. Plus, they are damn wonderful people!

TRC: When writing a storyline, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

Sabrina: I have a trick. I start out with a fairly well developed outline, but then, when I get going, yes, the characters start talking to me. I have to listen. It is their story after all!

TRC: The mark of a good writer is to pull the reader into the storyline so that they experience the emotions along with the characters. What do you believe a writer must do to make this happen?  Where do you believe writer’s fail in this endeavor?

Sabrina: Absolutely. My job is to let the reader FEEL the story. To evoke and exploit emotion. My tactic is to write in what is called deep POV (Point of View). I only write one character per scene and everything from the language to the tone to the simmering emotions MUST be genuine and true to that character.

Another trick I learned is to keep the story moving. Focusing on the action and evolution of the story, I fold tidbits of information into dialog, reactions and internalizations rather than providing it in huge choking chunks. This is essential to KEEP THE READER IN THE STORY. I do not want you to put the book down! Long dull chunks of exposition are the perfect excuse to close the book and go have a root canal or something.

No! This cannot be allowed!!!!

As for writers who fail in invoking emotion, I’d like to say (and to be honest) we all have failed at one point or another. If we are lucky and/or smart, we have learned from it.

In my opinion, this failure (for wont of a better word) occurs when writers try to rush through scenes and assume the words they are putting on paper are having the effect they desire. I call this lazy writing and I am an expert at it. But the trick is in the editing. It is in the second, third or fourth pass when we flesh out the scene, maximize opportunities to stir emotions and cut out anything that gums up the works.

This last bit is where many writers struggle, because they are not inclined to murder their darlings. You know, that perfectly wicked turn of phrase, or the description of the train station we are in love with but goes on waaaaay too long for the reader to tolerate… That stuff needs to go, but writers in love with their own words don’t want to cut it.

Ask yourself is the story truly better or worse with this and then become a slasher.

In my humble opinion, writers only truly fail when they let their ego get in the way.

TRC: Do you listen to music while writing? If so, does the style of music influence the storyline direction? Characters?

Sabrina: I love listening to music, but words distract me (muddles up the flow in my head) so the only music I listen to is classical. Fortunately, I love classical. It is supremely evocative.

Beethoven is a personal favorite (Appassionata and other such concertos), as well as Mozart and anything with the cello and oboe.

When I am in the “flow” the music does indeed influence me.

TRC: Many authors bounce ideas and information with other authors or friends and family.  With whom do you bounce ideas?

Sabrina: Believe it or not, no one in my family reads. Most of my friends are authors, but when we chat it is usually about other things (because we are all involved in our local chapter and conference). So no one, I suppose! Though I do occasionally talk to my agent about story ideas she would like to see.

TRC: What do you believe is the biggest misconception people have about authors?

Sabrina: I think they believe we live glamorous lives, which makes me giggle because I work from home, rarely leave the house and might have a conversation with one person other than my husband (or the dog). On a good day, I might actually get out of my PJs!

TRC: What is something that few, if any people, know about you?

Sabrina: I’m an Army Brat, so I grew up traveling the world (though I don’t travel much anymore unless it is for work because I am so busy). Because we lived overseas when I was in college, I took a course in Ancient Egyptian History…in Egypt. I’ve actually been inside the Great Pyramid. Which was awesome…until I remembered I’m claustrophobic.

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Sabrina: I am thrilled that St. Martin’s asked me to continue my Untamed Highlander Series. I am now plotting out Hamish’s story!

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Review:

Flash of Fury by Lea Griffith is the 1st book in her new Endgame Ops series.  This is the first book I have read by Griffith and after reading Flash of Fury, it will not be my last.  We meet our hero King McNally early on when he and his Endgame Ops team was ambushed on a mission that was an obvious leak.  Three members of his team were lost.   This leaves him determined to find out who was the betrayer, and to find and kill the terrorists, who were part of the original assignment.  King trusts no one, especially the CIA, whom he feels is part of the betrayal.  When he receives word that a courier for the terrorist will be on a plane, he makes sure he is on it.

Allie Redding, our heroine, is a Peace Corps volunteer, and also the daughter of the CIA Director.  Allie, who tries to stay out of the limelight that her father is in, aboards the plane to take her home. The plane is hijacked by those who want to kidnap Allie, but King manages to save her life and both are now running for their lives.  Even though he saves her, King does not trust Allie, thinking she is a courier for the terrorists.

What follows is an ultra exciting, tense, action filled story that will have both Allie and King constantly being in danger by the various attacks.  King realizes that Allie has been innocently set up to be used against her father.  His goal besides killing the evil villain, is to get Allie home safely.  Along the way, they both will learn to trust each other, and at the same time fall in love.  Each of them have their own issues; King with a father who abused him; and Allie losing her mother at an early age, and trying to stay clear of her father’s CIA responsibilities.  Though in time, Allie knows she wants to stay with King after this is over;  but he stubbornly  tells her there is no future, as it is too dangerous for her to be with him.

I loved Allie and King together; they made a great couple, and their sexual chemistry was off the wall scorching hot.  King’s Endgame ops team were great, and I cannot wait to see their story in future books. The edge of your seat action was very tense, keeping us emotionally invested as we worried if our heroes would survive.  Once you start this book, you will not be able to put it down.

Flash of Fury was a sensational start to this new series.  This story was fast paced, action filled, suspenseful, and filled with intrigue, betrayal, and romance with a fabulous sexy couple.  There are so many plots and twists along the way, and the ending was not only exciting, but also exhilarating.  There is so much more to come in the Endgame Ops series that I cannot wait to see what Lea Griffith has in store for us.  This is a must read for those of you who love romance suspense.

LETTER TO THE READERS

Hello, Readers! My name is Lea Griffith and I’m here to tell you a little bit about myself and my upcoming release, Flash of Fury, the first full-length story in my Endgame Ops series. Where should I start? How we start with some personal stuff? Everybody likes personal stuff, yeah?

Okay, here we go—you get five personal facts though to be honest I’m long-winded so I’ll say five but it will probably end up being lots more. Sharing is caring, lol.

  1. I’m married with three teenage daughters ages 16, 17, and just turned 19. I think I’m still sane. (Would I know if I wasn’t? J)
  2. I spend my days mimicking a Practice Administrator for two very busy internal medicine offices in Athens, Georgia. I’ve been in the medical field for a long, long time and again, I’m still sane. Same disclaimer from #1 applies.
  3. I graduated from Brenau University a long, long time ago in a land far, far away. I have a Bachelors of Science degree. I majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry. See disclaimer from #2.
  4. I LOVE reading. The only thing I love doing more is writing. I like to hunt, hate to fish, and I really, really enjoy spending time with my mom and kids. Hubs too when I can pull him away from Real Housewives episodes. The man has a serious heart-on for reality TV. *sigh* Again, I’m going to reference the disclaimer from #3.
  5. Favorite authors you ask? Julie Garwood, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Linda Howard. Favorite books of all time? The Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen Woodiwiss, Kiss Me While I Sleep by Linda Howard, The Prize by Julie Garwood, and one more—Wildcard by Lora Leigh. That’s my authors and books. You now know more about me than some of my family members, lol!

And now that I’ve given you deets on me, let me bend your ear (or would that be your eyes?) about my Endgame Ops series. If you like your heroes incredibly alpha and you like your heroines strong enough to take them on and give it right back, I think I’ve got a few stories cooking for you.

Suspense, heat, and overwhelming connections abound as you enter a world of shadows and intrigue. Each story of my Endgame Ops series brings you closer to a truth you may not be able handle. So watch your step because danger is around every corner and Endgame’s story is just beginning with my upcoming release, Flash of Fury. Let me introduce you to King and Allie. Prepare yourself.

Kingston McNally lost men when someone betrayed his team, and now he’s out for retribution. His quest for the enemy’s courier leads him to Cameroon and Allie Redding, a petite Peace Corps volunteer as stubborn as she is brave. Their attraction is immediate, but Allie has secrets of her own…and she’s not giving them up easily.

Allie’s life has been spent hiding in plain sight, but she’s had enough of her cloak-and-dagger existence. On her way home, her plane is hijacked-and King saves her life. But that doesn’t mean she owes him anything…even if he is the most damnably sexy man she’s ever laid eyes on. He’s got black ops and secrets written all over him, and trust is a two-way street.

Flash of Fury is a fast-paced, action-packed story of survival and how in the midst of the most harrowing circumstances, love can find a way to sneak in and knock you on your behind. With both of them hiding secrets, they’ll have to find a way to survive terrorists and each other.

I hope, with everything in me, that you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Now what are you waiting for? Go read ALL THE WORDS!

<3 you hard,

Lea

PS It’s your turn to tell me a little about you—fave authors? Fave reads? Are you still sane? Remember, sharing is caring.

It all went down so quickly that it took the remaining terrorists a moment to figure out what had happened. By that time, King was there, grabbing Abdul’s gun and firing in rapid succession, quickly eliminating all targets. He located the phone the terrorist had discarded, scooped it up, and turned to her.
“Get to the galley. There could be more,” he said in a low voice.
“Who the hell are you?” she asked softly as she stood rooted to the spot for an endless moment.
“Get to the galley at the back and open the door. Do it quickly. Do it now.”
Children screamed, while grown people shouted as they all clamored to get out of the front of the plane. Panic was in the air, but no more gunshots rang out. If the terrorists had help, they didn’t yet know what was going on.
King reached over, pushed Abdul from her grip, and his gaze narrowed again on her cheek. He brushed over the growing mark with his thumb. “He hurt you.”
Confusion clouded Allie’s face and she cocked her head, staring at him as if she’d never seen anyone quite like him before.
He shook his head, the sight of her big, blue eyes almost undoing him. He motioned her to the back and said simply, “Go.”
He reached for the small guy he’d almost clocked as the man tried to pass and said, “Tell them what happened but stay vague about us. Do you understand? Tell them all”—King motioned over the plane’s fleeing occupants—“to remain vague about us.”
It was unlikely that the two-hundred-odd passengers would keep silent about the blond who’d head-butted the lead terrorist. Or the giant American who dragged her away. Chances were that his and this woman’s faces would be all over the local news. But if even a few of the passengers negated the story, that mixed intel might buy them a bit of time.
The guy nodded and King took off. He rounded the corner of the attendants’ galley and noticed Allie had the door open. Rain sluiced in, wetting everything in its path. She stuck her head out and peered down, then pulled her head back in, spearing him with her gaze.
“It’s a long way down,” she said mournfully.
“Drop and roll, darlin’,” King responded. “Drop and roll.” Then he was out the door, dropping like a stone and rolling once he hit the ground. He pushed to his feet and glanced around. Security was pouring out onto the tarmac, and sirens could be heard in the distance. A luggage transport machine was rounding a corner, and they didn’t have much time.
He looked up at her, held out his arms, and yelled, “Jump!”
She didn’t hesitate. Good thing she was tiny because she fell right into his arms.
“Thanks,” she murmured.
He didn’t respond, just put her on her feet, grabbed her hand, and hailed down the luggage cart. He told the man they needed a ride to the terminal. The airport employee didn’t even blink—like random Americans came up to him every day asking for a ride in the middle of the pouring rain. He dropped them as far as another plane and told them they had to walk.
Instead of walking, they ran. King moved to an abandoned airport security truck, and they hopped in. He hot-wired the vehicle and had them on the move in under a minute.
“Get down,” he ordered.
She did as he directed. There was hope for her yet.
A gunshot punched out the back glass, and King ducked. He could see no one behind them, but obviously someone was back there shooting. He hung a right and took off around the terminal, passing planes and looking for the airport parking lot.
He’d have to ditch this truck and get them out into the city of Douala quickly.
“Who are you?” she asked and then grunted as she was thrown against the door.
King had just broken through a fence barrier to the airport parking lot and managed to shed the fence that tenaciously clung to the bumper. He picked a row of cars and barreled down it.
“King,” he replied succinctly.
She snorted. “Okay, now really, who…oomph…holy… Could you stop… Son of a…”
He slammed on the brakes. He winced when her head bumped against the glove box. “Sure.”
King hurried out of the truck and picked the first car he came to. He didn’t need flashy; he needed operational. Flashy had alarms. Operational could go undetected.
Fortunately, the first one he came to fit both bills. A Yugo. It just kept getting better and better. The car was unlocked and he slid in.
“A Yugo?” she asked, standing beside him now. “Seriously?”
“In the car and don’t talk,” he demanded.
Her brows lowered and her mouth tightened, but she decided to throw in her lot with him. She rounded the car and got in. King lowered the sun visor, and the keys fell into his lap. The Yugo’s only saving grace was that he wouldn’t have to expend the energy to hot-wire it.
The piece-of-shit car cranked, and King squealed out of the spot, though he slowed down as he approached the exit gate. “Act normal,” he said. “And don’t look anyone in the face.”
Allie didn’t say anything, but she didn’t have to—the anger pinching her features spoke volumes. He almost, almost, laughed. They were both soaking wet, but for some reason she looked even more beautiful.
“You laugh at me, and I’ll get you back,” she said from the corner of her mouth.
Spunk. He hated spunk. Oh, and bravery. He hated that too. “You already have,” he responded and enjoyed the way her eyes widened.
Blue, soul-sucking eyes. Her presence was enough of a payback.
“I didn’t. But first chance I get—”
King held up a hand. “Yeah, yeah, yeah…whatever. Now be quiet and lower your face.”
The woman actually growled at him. And it was sexy as hell. The smile that tugged his lips caught him by surprise.
