Graham “Hollywood” Caverly feels the chemistry with Kassie Anderson in the emails they’ve been exchanging through a dating site. When they finally meet in person, and that online chemistry proves to have real-life sizzle, he knows she’s the one. He couldn’t be happier when their first date, at an annual Army Ball, goes better than he could have imagined. Until Kassie drops a bomb.

Kassie doesn’t want to approach Hollywood on the dating site, but threats to her family leave her no other choice. She definitely doesn’t want to fall for the man. But fall she does. Hard. After she admits the ruse–and after some understandable anger on both their parts–Kassie wonders if, in Hollywood’s arms, a happy future is within her grasp.

But her past always finds her, and in Kassie’s case, that’s a dangerous proposition–because she’s connected to an old enemy of Hollywood’s Delta Force team. Very intimately connected… And it will take Hollywood, his Delta brothers, and even some outside help to do what should have been done the first time–eliminate the threat once and for all.

** Rescuing Kassie is the 5th book in the Delta Force Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings

••••••••••••

REVIEW: RESCUING KASSIE is the fifth installment in Susan Stoker’s contemporary, adult DELTA FORCE HEROES romantic, suspense series focusing on an elite team of military personnel. This is team member Graham ‘Hollywood’ Caverly, and department store clerk Kassie Anderson’s story line. RESCUING KASSIE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary although I recommend reading the series in order as some of the events of the current story line are connected to the events of Marrying Emily. There is a slight cross-over with the author’s Badge of Honor series.

Told from several third person perspectives including Kassie and Hollywood RESCUING KASSIE follows the building relationship between Delta Force officer Graham ‘Hollywood’ Caverly and department store clerk Kassie Anderson. For weeks Kassie and Hollywood have been communicating via a dating website but little does Hollywood know that Kassie is being threatened, and Hollywood and his Delta Force soldiers are targeted in a game of revenge. What ensues is the set up and take down of the people targeting our story line heroine, and Hollywood’s quick jump to love and a happily ever after.

RESCUING KASSIE picks up several weeks after the events of MARRYING EMILY and in this there is some background information that is revealed throughout the story. Kassie’s ex boyfriend has destroyed her confidence and trust in the military machine, and with it the threats from a familiar source. Hollywood knows that to end the threats to his team, and the woman he loves, Kassie will remain part of the game.

The relationship between Kassie and Hollywood is quick to build but initially suffers when Kassie reveals the truth behind her introduction to our leading hero. The sexual relationship is slower to build as Hollywood takes his time getting to know the woman with whom he is falling in love. The $ex scenes are limited and mostly fade to black but there are a number of scenes of sexual exploration and play that are intimate, erotic and seductive.

There are a large number of secondary and supporting characters including Hollywood’s Delta Force teammates: Rayne and Ghost, Emily and Fletch, as well as Emily’s daughter Annie, Harley and Coach, and Dane ‘Fish’ Munroe whose story is next in Rescuing Bryn. Several characters from the author’s Blade of Honor series cross over for familiarity. The requisite evil is two-fold as our heroine struggles with the threats against herself and her family.

The world building looks at the friendships and camaraderie, lives and loves of the elite Delta Force team-a blacker than black ops special unit who are but ghosts in the wind.

RESCUING KASSIE is an amazing story of suspense, romance, revenge and betrayal. The premise is engaging, energetic and moving; the characters are colorful, spirited and dynamic; the romance is passionate and emotional. Susan Stoker’s creative story lines pull the reader into a sexy world of military heroes and the women they love.

REVIEW

4.5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

YAY! New historical romance author to fall in love with! Unmasking the Earl by Elizabeth Keysian is the second book in her “Wayward in Wessex” series and a small disclaimer here, I did not read the first book and didn’t feel like I was missing out for it either. Absolutely can be read as a stand alone. That being said, I will absolutely read the first because this book impressed me that much! 🙂 Set in early 1800’s England we are in the regency era.

Our hero is the Earl of Stranraer, Lord Edmund Talbot “Ned” (serious mouthful there huh? LOL). Ned is set on finding answers with regards to the vanishing of his sister and decides to go undercover as a servant at the house he believe he will find the answer at. In the midst of this special mission he comes across a lady, not making a such a lady request to a notorious rake and the man who may have the answers Ned is looking for, Captain Francis Wycherley.

Our heroine is Miss Cassandra Blythe “Cassie”. Cassie has been “in love” with her childhood friend Julien forever and has decided she is going to do something about it. She is caught by Ned asking Captain Francis to help teach her how to properly seduce Julian. Afraid that Cassie will get mixed up in the likes of Captain Francis, he intervenes and decides to become Cassie’s teacher.

Off we go on a story full of mystery, humour, secrets, angst and sexy love. Ned sure does teach Cassie the art of seduction but in turn Cassie teached Ned the art of love. I have to say Ned kinda drove me nuts at times and if I had the ability to jump thru my tablet I would of smacked the back of his head a few times. He is redeemable thank goodness, and Elizabeth did a fantastic job in ensuring I fell in love with him too. The humour in this book was spot on and I found myself laughing out loud a few times. Great flow to the storyline and so many characters that I can kinda see where the next book may be heading.

Overall a solid novel that I highly recommend to my fellow historical romance lovers. I wish Ned’s jerkface, angry man ways were a little toned down but honestly that’s pretty much my only complaint. Too much good that outshines that small annoyance. Grab a cup of preference and curl up this summer, you won’t regret it! 🙂

HAPPY READING! 🙂

About The Author

Elizabeth Keysian is an English archaeologist, teacher and museum curator. She first started writing “long stories” when her headmaster father needed something to keep her quiet during school summer holidays. In her teenage years she produced angst-ridden poetry, slightly disturbing sketches for an amateur dramatics group and even her own magazine, to the mixed delight and consternation of her friends.

After completing her History degree, Elizabeth joined an English Civil War re-enactment group, messed about with the Middle Ages and finally settled to an enjoyable reconstruction of Tudor Daily Life at Kentwell Hall in Suffolk.

Her imagination was further inspired by living for seven years on a Knights Templar estate, with a garage full of skeletons, a resident ghost and a moat teeming with newts. She now lives near Bath with her partner and cats.

Elizabeth likes to keep her historical novels atmospheric and authentic, with both tears and laughter along the way. She loves to hear from readers.

Romancing the Bachelor by Diane Alberts – a Review

Romancing the Bachelor by Diane Alberts – a Review

Romancing the BachelorAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Eric Hamilton isn’t looking for love. Hell, he isn’t even looking for a girl. He has a five-year plan, and he’s one hundred percent focused on that. But then Shelby walks into his life, and suddenly, he can’t think about anything else. Unfortunately for him, she hates his guts, and wants nothing to do with him. But he’s a man who loves a challenge.

Shelby Jefferson can’t wait to get out of the city, and back to her country roots. She moved to Atlanta for a guy who promptly left her, and the last thing she wants is to fall for another man who might make her want to stay. But Eric is nothing if not persistent, and before long she’s inside his arms, in his bed, and she’s falling for him. Hard. But when history repeats itself, and she has to choose between a man and herself––again.

Review:

Romancing the Bachelor is the second installment of the Hamilton Family series from author Diane Alberts.

Eric lives by his 5 year plan, he won’t deviate, not for nothing, but meeting Shelby gives him second thoughts. The thrill of the chase, him not taking no for an answer, (in fact if that had been me, he may have gotten a punch on the nose a few times.)

Shelby had followed the love of her life to Atlanta, she’d left her family, she’d left her college course, she moved away to be with him, giving it all up …… and he left her behind, not a backward glance. So Shelby swore never again to be taken in, it would be in her terms or not at all.

She tries hard to put him off her, late dates, long decisions, and indecisive, but Eric seems pretty keen, but is that still the thrill of the chase? Is that because he hasn’t gotten what he’s after yet?

Eric says he wants them to take it slow, he’s happy to wait, but Shelby isn’t convinced, she doesn’t want to fall for him, she wants him to leave her alone, she’s terrified of falling for him, and he just walks away.

Eric tries to convince Shelby that he’s not into changing her plans, he only wants to get to know her. Will Shelby have her heart broken again?   You need to read this book to find out.

Romancing the Bachelor is a good book to read for the summer and I recommend you give it a look.

Meet Me at Beachcomber Bay by Jill Mansell – a Review

Meet Me At Beachcomer BayAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Love is in the air in St Carys, but you’d never know it – the people of this seaside town are very good at keeping secrets…

The man Clemency loves belongs to someone else. She has to hide her true feelings – but when she ropes in an unsuspecting friend to help, wires start to get crossed.

For the first time in Ronan’s life his charm has failed him in winning over the woman he wants. Loving her from afar appears to be his only option.

Belle seems to have the perfect boyfriend, but something isn’t quite right. And now a long-buried secret is slowly rising to the surface.

The truth has a funny way of revealing itself, and when it does St Carys will be a very different place indeed…

Review:

Meet Me at Beachcomber Bay by Jill Mansell is a sweet chic lit romance.  We meet our heroine, Clemency at the start, when she boards a plane and sits next to a man who immediately draws her attention.  Sam, our hero, is distant at first, but our bubbly charming Clemency is hard to ignore for too long.   When they arrive at their destination, Sam quickly disappears and Clemency catches up to him to learn that he is married.

Three years later, they will meet again, as Sam comes to St. Carys, on the arm of Clem’s sister Belle.  Both are shocked to see each other again, and though she learns that Sam’s wife died, Clemency has to keep her distance, since Belle is now engaged to Sam.  We also get to meet Ronan, another hero in this sweet story.  Ronan is a long time friend of Clem and they work together as real estate agents.  Because she is determined not to interfere with Belle’s relationship with Sam, Clem will get Ronan to help pretend that they are a couple.  Clemency was a great heroine, always fun, caring, romantic and loyal to her friends and family.

Ronan meets Kate during a showing, and they become friends.  In a  short time, he will begin to realize that he is falling for Kate.  This was a another romance that mingled with the main characters, and the fun people of St. Carys.   The only one I wasn’t crazy about was Belle, who came across as snobby, arrogant and bitchy.  Towards the end, this will change somewhat to make her more likable.  I loved the close friendship between Clem and Ronan, which made this story so good, as they were fun,  humorous, with witty banter.    The relationship between Sam and Clem was quieter, since it doesn’t really happen til later in the book.

This was a very nice romance, with wonderful characters, small town atmosphere, and a few very nice background stories.  The other good characters besides, Clem, Ronan, Sam, Belle, Kate were Josephine, Verity and Marina. The story with Marina was very good, and emotional.  Jill Mansell does a wonderful job writing a fun story line that also touched series subjects, such as cancer, adoption and gay relationship.  I wholly recommend Meet Me at Beachcomber Bay as a book for you to read.

She lost him once…

Years ago Samantha made a mistake and lost a chance at something real with Maguire O’Connor. Now that she’s living in Holly again, she knows seeing him is inevitable. But the last thing she ever expected was to take him on as a client.

Now they have a second chance…

Maguire never got over Sam. Thanks to a meddling family member, he mistakenly hires Sam as his real estate agent. With her in his sights again, he’s not letting her go. But someone from her past followed her back to Holly with a sinister intent. Now Maguire will do whatever it takes to protect the woman he intends to claim as his forever.

•••••

REVIEW: IT’S ME AGAIN, BABY is the third installment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult O’CONNOR FAMILY erotic, romance, novella series focusing on the O’Connor family of Holly, North Carolina. This is twenty nine year old mechanic/classic car restorer Maguire O’Connor, and twenty four year old realtor Samantha Murphy’s story line. IT’S ME AGAIN, BABY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Maguire and Samantha) IT’S ME AGAIN, BABY is the second chance romance between Maguire O’Connor and Samantha Murphy. Three years earlier, following a wild week of romance and sex, Samantha walked out of Maguire’s life without any explanation or reasons why. Fast forward to present day, Samantha has returned to Holly, North Carolina following the sudden death of her beloved father. A realtor by trade, Samantha will be shocked when her latest client is the man who destroyed her heart years before. Enter Maguire O’Connor, the man she would never forget, and the man with whom she was still in love. What ensues is the rekindling relationship between Maguire and Samantha, and Maguire’s need to protect the woman he loves from someone from her past.

Three years earlier, a case of mistaken belief, sent Samantha Murphy out of town to seek a new life without the reminders of Maguire O’Connor, and everything he meant. After serving in the US Marine Corp in Afghanistan, Maguire returned home to start up his own business, a business that was expanding and more successful as time went by. Meeting Samantha Murphy found our hero remembering the past, and the confusion as to why she walked away without looking back. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense. It doesn’t take long before Samantha and Maguire forgive one another for mistakes of the past.

The world building focuses on the second chance romance; a rekindling of a relationship between two people, forged by their meddling family and friends, in an attempt towards another happily ever after in Holly, North Carolina. The relationship and conflicts are quick to resolve but such is the nature of the novella format-my only complaint is a lack of character development throughout the story.

IT’S ME AGAIN, BABY is a sweet story of family and friendship; misunderstanding and forgiveness; danger and threats from the past; passion and love. The premise is entertaining and sexy; the characters are heartwarming and energetic; the romance is provocative and seductive. Katie Reus’ O’CONNOR FAMILY series is an enjoyable look at family and love.

It’s Me Again, Baby
O’Connor Family Series
Copyright © Katie Reus 2017

He took a few steps forward, trying not to notice her long, toned legs and how incredible she looked in the formfitting blue and white dress. “I was supposed to meet my Realtor here. Sam?”
She cleared her throat, nodded once. “That’s me. My mom asked me to meet a friend of… Oh, your mom’s. She must have meant you, not a friend. I, ah…” Her cheeks flushed pink and it shouldn’t be sexy, but everything about her was. Damn it. “I didn’t realize it was you.”
Yeah, he had no doubt of that. She’d have probably canceled had she known. He rubbed a hand over the back of his neck. “So, you’re living back in Holly now?” As far as he knew she’d been in Oregon the last three years. He hadn’t seen her since she was twenty-one and he’d been twenty-six. Even then he’d felt too old for her, had worried she wasn’t ready for him—for a relationship. He’d been right.
“I moved back a month ago. Since my dad died. My mom’s been handling everything well but I wanted to be here for her.” Traces of pain etched her expression before a neutral mask fell into place.
Oh, right. “I’m really sorry about your dad.” He’d been out of town and hadn’t made it to the funeral. Hell, he hadn’t realized she was back in Holly again. Obviously. No way was he going to be a dick to her now. Not that he would have been anyway. He was going to be so damn nice so she had no idea how badly she’d hurt him. He wouldn’t give her the satisfaction.
“Thanks. Listen, if you want to find another Realtor, it’s totally fine. In fact, I have some great recommendations.”
He should say yes. It would be the sane thing to do. He didn’t want to work with her when he wanted her—still. “Nah, it’s okay. The past is water under the bridge. I never held anything against you.” Liar, liar. He’d been pissed—and hurt—for a long time over the way she’d cut contact with him. As if what they’d shared hadn’t mattered. It might have only been a week that they’d spent together, but they’d had a connection. Or he’d thought they had. Turned out she was just a pretty little liar.
She frowned, her eyebrows pulling together. And just as quickly her dark eyes popped with a fiery anger. “You never held anything against me?”

The End of Magic
Echo Park Coven series – Book #3
by Amber Benson
Release Date: May 16, 2017

The End of MagicAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Lyse MacAllister used to be like everyone else blissfully ignorant of magic, of the dire battles being fought in shadows and secrecy. But that was before her Aunt Eleanora died, leaving her in control of the Echo Park coven; before she found herself in the middle of the witches clash with the anti-magic zealots known as the Flood; before her blood sisters turned against her…

As the Flood begins turning humans across the globe against the witches, Lyse must find a way to regain the trust of her former magical family and once again unify them. Because the final battle between good and evil is looming and if the witches don t stand against it together, all of humankind could be lost…”

Review:

The End of Magic by Amber Benson is the 3rd and final book in her Witches of Echo Park series.  The Witches of Echo Park series is urban fantasy revolving around witches and an evil group trying to destroy all witches and magic.  In the last book, Lizbeth, the last dream keeper was able to restore magic, but the end result is The Flood, an evil group that has successfully turned humans against the witches.

The End of Magic picks up soon after the last book, with Lyse, who is now the leader of the Echo Park Coven.  Many of the members are hurt, missing, in the dreamlands; with the police and The Flood collecting and killing witches all over the world, Lyse must find a way to get her coven together and stop The Flood.

As I had noted in the previous book, this series shows the POV of the various members of the coven.  Lyse  is the leader, who has various powers, since she has the ability to harness other peoples powers at touch. Arrabelle (Bell), Devandra (Dev), Daniela (empath) and Lizbeth also have their POV’s during the story line.   Eleanora makes an appearance helping them in the dreamlands.

With all the witches separated, Lyse will use her new found powers to move the group to various places to bring all of them together again to fight and stop the evil Flood. What follows is an exciting, at times dark adventure that puts them all in danger, especially in the last 1/3 of the book.   Despite mistakes they have all made along the way, their closeness will keep them together determined to stop evil at all costs. At the last stand, Lyse is sent back in time to find a way to stop The Flood before it all began.

Switching to various times, Lyse sees no changes and upon returning to the present, she sees a horrifying sight.  Will she be able to go back again to find the right time frame in the past to stop the evil?

Rather than give spoilers, the ending was very exciting, but I would have liked more about what truly happens to our coven, not having to use our imagination.  I enjoyed The End of Magic and if you like Urban Fantasy, with witches and magic, I suggest to read the first book in this series.

Sex God, a stand-alone contemporary romance, is the much-anticipated follow-up to Sex Machine.

•••••••••

REVIEW: SEX GOD is the second installment in Marie Force’s contemporary adult, stand alone, erotic, romance series. This is successful businessman and CPA Garrett McKinley, and florist Lauren Davies’ story line. SEX GOD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person points of view (Lauren and Garrett) SEX GOD follows the friends to lovers relationship between Marfa, Texas’s lone florist Lauren Davies, and businessman Garrett McKinley. Six years earlier, upon the death of his father, Garrett McKinley took over the family business and made it the successful firm it is today. Garrett never wanted to remain to Marfa, Texas but for the woman he has loved for most of his life. Enter Lauren Davies, his best friend, and the woman that calls to his heart-a heart that wants to leave Marfa, Texas for bigger and better ideas.

Garrett McKinley has a reputation as a ‘sex-god’; a one night stand kind of guy who is desperately attracted to his best friend Lauren. Months earlier following a less than stellar night of sex with Lauren, the two have struggled with their friendship and love. Garrett wants a do-over with no strings attached; Lauren wants something more from the man that she loves. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive.

The secondary and supporting characters include Blake Dempsey and Honey Carmichael (Sex Machine #1), as well as Matt and Julie first introduced in Blake and Honey’s story line; police chief Brock Hernandez, and Scarlett. I am hoping for a story between Brock and Scarlett. The requisite evil is a man from Lauren’s past that is determined to prove he is still in control.

The world building continues to look at the friendships, relationships and loves of a tight knit group of friends and family in Marfa, Texas.

SEX GOD is a sexy read; a provocative and sexy story about two friends who are fated by life and love; an intimate look at friendship, life and passion. The premise is delightful; the characters are colorful and energetic; the romance is spicy and captivating. SEX GOD is a lighthearted and sensual story by Marie Force.

Trying It All by Christi Barth is the 4th book in her Naked Men series.   I have read most of Christi’s books, but for some reason I had not read this series.  But Trying it All read very well as a standalone, and I loved the book; which makes me try to find time to go back and read the first three books.  The Naked Men series  revolves around a group of friends who have stood together from high school, death defying situations and to their current day successful careers ; the title is from their blog which they display their honest opinions.

It was a great beginning, 10 years before, where their bus crashed over the mountains leaving them with no hope of rescue.  Riley Ness is our hero in this book, and he blames himself for the accident.  Knowing what happened made it so much easier to understand the men, what they went through, and their loyalty to each other.  Since I had not read the first three, it was a godsend.  Thank you, Christi.

Now in the present, Riley is a federal agent for the NTSB, who is hell bent to always plan ahead for work and for play.  Riley is intense and sometimes annoying with his persistence to make sure everyone is protected and plans for every eventuality in whatever or wherever. Summer Sheridan, our heroine, has also had a terrible tragedy as a teenager, having been shot while In high school, and actually died for over a minute.  But Summer is the complete opposite of Riley.  She refuses to plan; she wants to live for the moment, even if she is reckless.  Of course, Summer and Riley hang around the same friends, but they hate each other, and do everything in their power to avoid one another.  Best laid plans do not always work out.

One day, when passing each other and making their normal sarcastic comments, Summer accidentally slips off the sidewalk into oncoming traffic.  Riley acted quickly and lifted Summer to safety, and in that moment with him holding her so close, the chemistry between them burst into a flame of fire.  Riley kisses Summer and nothing will ever be the same for both of them.

What follows is a wonderful, fun and at times exasperating story , as we watched two people who are opposites fall in love.  It was such a great romance with hot sexual chemistry, and they were both so good together.  The fact that they were likeable made the story fun to read.  Yes, sometimes you wanted to smack one of them occasionally, but as their love becomes real, slowly they realize that they also complement each other, helping the other get past their anxiety.  Christi Barth does such a fantastic job writing their romance, and blending in the friends surrounding them. This was such an enjoyable read.

Besides Summer and Riley, I loved all the other characters, such as Chloe, Griff, Logan, just to name a few.  Just when they begin to know that their love is real, the past has a way of coming back to haunt them.  Summer is spontaneous and reckless, and a scared Riley will run; determined to live and not let things go, will keep Summer at a standstill.  Will they find a way to compromise and make their relationship work?

Trying it All is another fabulous romance by Christi Barth, who never fails to give us a wonderful story and couple.  I loved this book.  I suggest you start with the first book in this series, as I will plan to go back to read the earlier books.
