The Billionaire’s Paradise by Victoria Davies – a Review

The Billionaires ParadiseAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM

Description:
Avery Clark loves her life. She travels the world doing a job that keeps her so busy she can’t think about how lonely she is or the fact that she hasn’t had a day off in two years. This trip to paradise is a chance for her to get some sun and have a Mai Tai or three. That is until she runs into billionaire hotel mogul Hayden Wexton, who is absolutely one hundred percent off limits.

Hayden Wexton is a man who knows what he wants. As soon as he sees Avery, he can’t get her out of his head. He’s determined to show her life can be fun and she can still get her work done. Only, the more time he spends with her, the more she gets under his skin. That was definitely not a part of his plan.

Avery never makes mistakes, but with Hayden, well, hell, he might just be the best mistake she’s ever made.

Review:

The Billionaire’s Paradise by Victoria Davies is a fun, flirty, sexy, and charming fast paced read.  It’s the type of book you want to take on vacation with you, or makes you want to take a vacation to a tropical paradise with a sexy companion.  It’s filled with flirtatious dialogue, sexual angst/chemistry that makes me wonder how Ms. Davies managed to keep her couple from jumping each other earlier in the book.

Boy oh boy do Avery and Hayden bring the heat in this one, but they are also a very fun, charming and real couple to read about.  They keep the reader entertained from beginning to end, as Hayden keeps chasing Avery, trying to wear her down and get her to agree to his proposition.  Their interactions with each other range from playful, to sexy, to serious.  I like that Ms. Davies wrote these two characters as real as possible, with very real past relationship problems, that threaten to ruin any future relationships.  Watching them deal with their past, come clean with each other, and open their hearts up to new possibilities are very real for the reader to read about and relate too.  It’s always nice when an author writes their characters as real as possible.  Sure it’s nice to site back and read a story that’s light and fluffy, but then you’re sitting their going yeah as if that ever happens.  It’s refreshing to have a book explore two characters that are solidly written, and as close to reality as possible, yet keeping the story fun and light to balance out the serious stuff.

I really enjoyed The Billionaire’s Paradise by Victoria Davies.  I’ve had the opportunity to read all three books in this series so far, and each one just keeps getting better and better.  Her characters are always real and well developed with real issues the reader can relate to, but at the same time fun and flirty with each as their sexual chemistry smolders on the pages.  If you are looking for a fun, sexy fast read, then look no further then The Billionaire’s Paradise.

Until next time, happy reading everyone!

REVIEW: Mistakes…we all make them, it’s the beauty of what makes us human. We are not made to be perfect and never make mistakes. Mistakes help us grow, give us lessons and yes wizen us up. Enjoyable book this was complete with a good lesson to think about.

The main couple has their skeletons in the closet, at least Rosie’s is in the closet when Cruz’s is out in the open, all over the internet to be exact. Growing up and living in a small town where everyone knows each other’s business, Rosie guards this secret like King Midas’s gold. The thing is I firmly believe a mistake is a learning lesson; it does not define you nor should it be a jail sentence. Cruz at times let his juvenile past define him that there was no good left in him while Rosie suffered in silence with guilt like a jail sentence. They both in the beginning acted like they were very undeserving of happiness. I admit the parts where they acted undeserving of each other and happiness was a tad sad to read. Despite that their chemistry together was off the charts hot. Their outdoor scene against Cruz’s truck and skinny dipping in the water…*fans herself*. For a dude who lost 10 years of his life in jail, he sure knows what he’s doing in the bedroom with Rosie. There are also very cute and endearing scenes between the couple like when they went to the fair together or at a birthday party.

I really enjoyed their individual characters too. Rosie had a very sunny upbeat attitude that was very contagious, you couldn’t help but smile when you read about her. Her selfless attitude that she thinks of others before herself only makes you like her more. Cruz was very honest, honorable and full of integrity. He may think there is no redeeming him because of his past but starting over in Sundown, cleaning up and settling down looks like a step in the right direction to me.

Reading about them helping each other through their past mistakes was deep stuff and you can just feel the relationship hit a turning point that things are getting serious between them. Rosie was compassionate and non-judgmental of Cruz’s past and Cruz was patient and very understanding when Rosie finally let her walls down and let Cruz in on her big secret.

Sharon Kay does gnarly awesome paranormal romances but her contemporary romance is a great surprise. Awesome characters and character development, deep and swoon worthy love scenes, great lesson to think about and the best and cutest happily ever after.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 15, 2017

“Love had been stolen from me for reasons entirely my fault. But then a miracle happened, and Pim gave me something I thought was lost forever. She gave me a love I’d earned. Love that ruined me. Love that made me hopelessly hers…”

Once upon a time, I didn’t think I’d ever be normal.
Now, I’m talking and trusting, and it’s all thanks to Elder.
He gave me my life back, and I gave him my heart, but love stories like ours are never simple.
I did something to protect him.
He did something to survive me.
We screwed up.
And now, it’s no longer just about us.
It’s about safety, sanctuary, and sin.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: THOUSANDS is the fourth installment in Pepper Winters’ contemporary, adult DOLLAR dark, erotic, romance series focusing on billionaire Elder Prest, and Tasmin Blythe aka Pimlico. THOUSANDS should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately upon the events of book three HUNDREDS. For fans of Pepper’s series there is a slight cross over with the characters from the author’s Monsters in the Dark and her Indebted Series.

SOME BACKGROUND: Two years earlier Tasmin Blythe was sold to a sadistic Norwegian businessman and in the ensuing time suffered abuse, rape and torture at the hands of Alrik Asbjorn (aka Master A) and several of his friends and associates. Refusing to give Alrik the satisfaction of her pain and turmoil, and in an effort to protect her mind our heroine shut down and opted for selective mutism. This is her story of recovery, healing and falling in love.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Elder and Pimlico) THOUSANDS is the continuing story of Pimlico aka Tamsin Blythe’s recovery, a young woman sold into sexual slavery two years earlier, and her rescuer Elder Prest, a man whose past is dark, dangerous, and looking for revenge. THOUSANDS looks at the growing love between Pim and Elder, and the fall out when not one but two groups are determined to destroy any happiness for our leading couple. While Elder struggles with his growing love and need for Tamsin Blythe, Tamsin will find the power and voice needed to reveal the reasons and pain for remaining silent for so long.

THOUSANDS is a story told through personal introspection, thoughts and self-examination. Elder’s treatment of Pim (Tamsin) is questionable; his emotional stability grows more reckless as threats to their safety loom on the horizon. Love is fragile; broken; without promise, so too is the possibility of a happily ever after when repercussions and retribution from past sins dismantle and crush all hopes for our story line couple.

Pepper Winters writes emotional, dark and disturbing tales that will consume your soul, break your heart, and leave you restless and uneasy, hopeful and desirous. The premise is dark, edgy and dramatic; the characters are broken, flawed and controversial; the romance is intense and heartbreaking. THOUSANDS is a startling and tense installment to the author’s DOLLAR series.

Any Dream Will Do by Debbie Macomber – a Review

Any Dream Will Do by Debbie Macomber – a Review

Any Dream Will DoAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Shay Benson adored her younger brother, Caden, and that got her into trouble. When he owed money, Shay realized she would do anything to help him avoid the men who were threatening him, and she crossed lines she never should have crossed. Now, determined to start fresh, she finds herself in search of a place to stay and wanders into a church to escape from the cold.

Pastor Drew Douglas adored his wife. But when he lost her, it was all he could do to focus on his two beautiful kids, and his flock came in a distant third. Now, as he too is thinking about a fresh start, he walks through his sanctuary and finds Shay sitting in a pew.

The pair strike up a friendship—Drew helps Shay get back on her feet, and she reignites his sense of purpose—that, over time, turns into something deeper, something soulful, spiritual, and possibly romantic. Even Drew’s two children are taken with this woman who has brought light back into their lives. Perhaps most important, Shay learns to trust again as she, in turn, proves herself trustworthy to her adopted community.

But Caden’s return to town and a disastrous secret threaten to undo the life Shay has tried so hard to rebuild. It will take the utmost courage and faith if she and Drew hope to find healing and open their hearts to a brighter future

Review:

Any Dream Will Do by Debbie Macomber is a wonderful heartwarming story about second chances and finding love.  Any Dream Will Do begins with Shay Benson, our heroine, making a grave mistake in helping her brother; after serving three years in prison for embezzlement, which during that time, she never heard from her brother again. When Shay is released from prison, she has no money, and has no one to help her; she gets on a bus to nowhere, and ends up in a local church in a small town and desperately prays for some guidance.

Drew Douglas, is the pastor of his church, and when he hears a noise, he realizes that someone has entered the church.  Drew himself was deep in prayer, trying to find a way to get past his depression, since the loss of his wife 4 years before.  Drew has two children, and he knows he needs to find a way to step out of his mourning for them, as well as he is losing members of  his church.  When Drew goes to find out who entered, he meets Shay, and he will try to bring her to one of the town’s clinics that help those in need. Shay openly explains that she just got out of prison, but Drew is determined to help the young lady.  Shay at first is not too sure she will qualify to be in this program, but she will persevere and slowly change her perspective at having a chance for a new life.  She meets many people who will become her friends along the way, which also includes Drew, who will become her friend, as will his two children.

Drew finds himself having a new purpose, and begins to return to the living, winning back his parishioners, his friends, and spending quality time with his daughter and son.  Drew also finds himself enjoying spending time with Shay, and how she is with his children.  Both know theirs is just a friendship, which has some townspeople not happy, as Shay’s past has them determined to force Drew not to become romantically involved.  Those who know Shay, have seen all the good she does helping others, with volunteer work, and the homeless, not to mention how Drew’s children have grown to love her.  Shay’s brother and her ex will come back to haunt her, causing more problems, but she is now strong enough to fight them

Even though this was an unlikely pair, their growing romance was so well written and beautiful to see.  I loved how Shay was so loving to the children, and to Drew, even though she felt she was not worthy of him. I loved how they both got second chances in life to rise above the trauma of their past; as each needed to learn to trust their hearts, and have faith and hope again.

Debbie Macomber gives us wonderful story about love, second chances, friendship, issues, and forgiveness.   This was a sweet and inspiring story, with a great couple, wonderful children and secondary characters.  I strongly suggest you read Any Dream Will Do.

You Say It First by Susan Mallery – a Review

You Say It FirstAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Sculptor Nick Mitchell grew up in a family of artists and learned from his volatile father that passion only leads to pain. As he waits on a new commission, he takes a day job as a humble carpenter at a theme wedding venue. The job has its perks—mainly the venue’s captivating owner, Pallas Saunders. Although he won’t let love consume him, for ecstasy with an expiration date, he’s all in.

Pallas adores Weddings in a Box. But if she can’t turn the floundering business around, she’ll have no choice but cave to her domineering mother and trade taffeta for trust funds working at the family’s bank. Then when a desperate bride begs Pallas for something completely out of the box, her irresistible new hire inspires her. Nick knows she doesn’t belong behind a desk, and she knows in her heart that he’s right—where she really belongs is in his arms.

Review:

You Say It First by Susan Mallery is the 1st book in her new Happily,Inc. series.  We meet our heroine, Pallas Saunders, immediately as she is in the midst of handling a wedding. Pallas is a wedding planner, in her ‘Weddings in a Box’ business.   What is Weddings in a Box?  It is different types of themes that are dreams of the bride and groom; such as Roman Empire, Aliens, Dessert, Ocean, etc.  Pallas inherited this business from her deceased friend, who she considered a father figure.  She loves what she does, but is under pressure from her mother to quit this business and work at the bank with her mother.

Nick Mitchell is a famous sculptor, who comes from a family of well known sculptors.  Nick works with wood, his brother’s work with glass, etc.  Nick is in between work, as he is waiting for commission to work in Dubai for two years, but it will be a couple of months before he finds out.   He ends up helping Pallas, by dressing up as a Roman Warrior, as part of the current wedding theme.  Nick also notices some of the woodwork that Pallas has stored is old and decaying, but worth a lot of money.  Nick is determined to fix and renew the wood, since it is his hobby too.  Pallas will agree, and in time a friendship begins that will form into a slow build romance.

Mallery has created a great group of characters, which included all of Pallas’s friends, who work locally and help her create the wedding designs.  Nick’s brothers were also a big part of this story.  I loved how they all bonded, and their creativity to create amazing wedding themes for Pallas.  Another major part of the story was the family issues surround both Pallas and Nick.  Pallas is always being pressured by her mom, but Nick will help her stand up to her mother.  Nick in turn has his own family problems with his famous father, and with one of his brothers, who learned he was adopted, and has become somewhat distant.   These were good stories that added to the overall storyline.

As Nick and Pallas’s romance heats up, she knows she has fallen in love with Nick. He cares about her, but is afraid to commit to anything permanent, since he feels it will only lead to hurt. Will Nick take the job in Dubai for two years?  Will Pallas tell Nick her true feelings?

You Say It First is a very nice romance, wonderful characters and set in a sweet small town.  I recommend that you read this book, written very well by Susan Mallery.

REVIEW:

What do I say when it’s time to review a book I’ve read?  That’s always the question when I begin typing out a review.  How can I make it interesting without giving away too much information?  What words can I use in place of “I loved it!” or “great read!”???  This is my dilemma people!  So forgive me if my reviews sound the same for T.F. Walsh books but I love them all.  I thoroughly enjoy her style of writing, the characters are amazing and the non stop action in each story has me mesmerized until the end.  Binding Curse is no exception.

The main characters are Luna and Axel.  Luna is a fae police officer who wants to protect, serve and do everything by the book.  It was her need to help others that led her to defend Axel when she found him being attacked by two men.  As the situation escalated, Luna began to realize that things were not what they seemed.  The two attackers were acting strangely and extremely difficult to fend off.  The weirdness didn’t end there.  Once Luna and Axel were back at police headquarters, the situation just kept getting worse.  What was wrong with everyone?  Why was Axel being treated like a terrible criminal?  Why was the council representative there trying to change their procedures to get his hands on Axel?  Luna didn’t understand what was happening, but she knew she had to save Axel, even though it meant risking her career and possibly her life.  Axel is human, he appears to be a tattooed thug but don’t let appearances fool you.  There is serious heart in that hot sexy body and he cannot figure out why he is all of sudden being hunted.  As Luna and Axel run from the police and everyone else that is trying to murder them, they will discover powers of their own and a destiny that can possibly save their world.

T.F. Walsh has a true gift in writing.  Binding Curse is captivating from the first word until the very last.  She weaves a magical world of fae powers and romance that keeps you on the edge of your seat.  And as much as I hate the villains in a story, she writes them so well that the book wouldn’t be the same without them.  Just when you think Luna and Axel have met their end and there is no way out……BAM!  The story takes a magical turn that spirals the characters into an entirely new direction.  T.F. Walsh‘s talent with words to create Kutia Hollow and the characters within is absolutely extraordinary.  This was an amazing, spell binding journey to be on and I didn’t want it to end.  What’s the one thing I’ve definitely learned from this author? You don’t just read a T.F. Walsh book, you live each moment as if you were there.

ABOUT THE BOOK : Release Date August 16, 2017

The Ryders are a series of sexy stand-alone romances. These hot contemporary romance novels feature alpha male heroes and sexy, empowered women. They’re flawed, funny, passionate, and relatable to readers who enjoy new adult romance, contemporary romance, and women’s fiction.

It’s been years since Sally Tuft’s husband died and she was left to raise her teenage son alone. And almost as long since she told the only other man she’d ever wanted that they should be just friends. Now her son has left for college and Sally has no distractions to keep her from thinking about her best friend and coworker, Gage Ryder, and what could have been.

Gage always believed that one day Sally would move past the death of her husband and they would finally explore the passion that’s simmered between them since the day they met. Tasked with opening a new youth center in Oak Falls, Virginia, Gage hopes the trip away is just what they need to finally come together.

Before Gage and Sally ever reach Oak Falls, one night at a conference changes everything, putting their friendship—and their love—on the line, and the two must decide if getting swept up in love is the beginning of forever, or the end of their friendship as they know it.

•••••••

REVIEW: SWEPT INTO LOVE is the fifth installment in Melissa Foster’s contemporary, adult THE RYDERS erotic, romance series focusing on the Ryder siblings. This is children’s center workers Gage Ryder and Sally Tuft’s story line. SWEPT INTO LOVE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. The Ryder series is a spin off from, and set in the world of the author’s Love in Bloom series.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Gage and Sally) SWEPT INTO LOVE is a friends to lovers story line that focuses on widow and single mother Sally Tuft, and Gage Ryder. Gage and Sally have worked together for years, and with the death of her husband David (six years earlier), Gage has been our heroine’s rock and savior, as well as her son’s mentor and friend. A business conference in Vegas finds our couple living the reality of ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’, after a drunken night of romance and $ex. With a week to recover before heading home Gage Ryder sets about proving to Sally that she is the woman who holds the key to his heart. What ensues is the long-time-coming friends to lovers relationship that will change Sally’s outlook of the future with man that she loves.

The relationship is a friends to lovers but a relationship that has been simmering for several years. Gage is a swoon-worthy hero; a man every woman wishes for both in and out of the bedroom-the perfect lover, husband, and the epitome of emotional strength and support. Sally struggles with memories from the past, and the love for Gage she is unable to acknowledge fearing guilt and betrayal of the ghost in the room. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, seductive and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including most, if not all, of the previous story line couples. We get a glimpse into the Ryder family dynamics and support system including the overwhelming love and acceptance of Sally and her now college-bound son.

SWEPT INTO LOVE is a sexy, sassy, spirited romantic love story; a second chance for a woman who loved and lost, and a happily ever after for a man who waited in the wings until the time was right. The premise is emotional and spirited; the characters are passionate and real; the romance is captivating and inspiring. WE should all fall in love with a man like Gage Ryder. Melissa’s pulled me into a sensual ride of romance and love.

Ten Days With The Highlander by Hayson Manning – a Review

Ten Days With The Highlander by Hayson Manning – a Review

Ten Days With The HighlanderAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Go-getter Georgia Paxton has ten days to acquire a quaint hotel in the Scottish Highlands for her travel accommodation company before she’s off on her next grand adventure. Too bad the sexy, broody Scot who owns the place is dead against the idea…and that she’s in very real danger of losing their little bet to see who can convince whom first.

There’s no way Callum MacGregor is going to let the gorgeous American turn his tiny hometown over to bored tourists looking to satisfy their Outlander fantasies. He only has ten days to convince her to slow down and see the magic of the town and its people. If he succeeds, he won’t have to run her out of the county. But if he fails, Georgia might run off with his heart.

Review:

Ten Days With The Highlander by Hayson Manning is a Contemporary Romance. Georgia Paxton was born to roam.  Raised by her hippie parents she is never content to stay in one place too long.  She is also corporate America.  Her job with LiveAbout –  a destination vacation company.  She travels from destination to destination acquiring properties. She is the big gun.  The one they send in to close the deal. Her newest assignment is Glenlagen, Scotland.   How hard can this assignment be?  Just like all the others, get in, get out and close the deal.

Callum MacGregor was once corporate America but it turns out it wasn’t for him.   He has come back to his roots in Glenlagen, Scotland.  He has bought the local pub and an old manor house and turned it into a hotel. The pub has been fully renovated but the hotel is a work in progress.  He is all about community and what it means to be a part of this amazingly magical place.  He watches out for his neighbors that’s what community does.

I knew the moment Georgia pulled into the hotel and met Callum that things were going to be quite interesting.  I loved the mix of Corporate America versus hometown morals and values. Georgia is there to convince Callum to sell her company his hotel as a resort destination.  But Callum likes things just the way are and does not want to open his town up as a tourist destination. He is happy and content with the way things are in his life.

Georgia is adamant about the fact that she will never settle down and start a family.  Her life is about movement from one place to the next and she is content with that.  The moment she encounters Callum she begins to see another side to her corporate lifestyle. Callum is the perfect mix of Scottish delish!  He is rugged and hard working and nothing means more to him than family and friends.  He steps up and watches out for his neighbors and makes sure everyone is taken care of in his small quaint town.  The town is magical.  From the moment the author begins to describe it, it is magical and exactly where you want to take your next vacation. Callum begins to show Georgia that there is more to life than making money.  That settling down and enjoying the little things can make for a happy and content life.

The mix that both main characters bring to the story is wonderfully written and I would have loved for it to continue on.  One of my favorite parts of the story was the mention of Coupon, PA which I grew up 9.5 miles from.  Always fun to read of places you are familiar with. Loved the story, loved the setting and all of the characters.  I hope that this story continues as there are several secondary characters I would love to read more about.  Wonderfully written and filled with magical folklore and delicious sounding foods. If you want to take a trip to a magical Scotland town with wonderful characters and an even more wonderful love story – this is the book for you!
