ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 14, 2017

Hot in Chicago series author Kate Meader returns with her all new, scorching Chicago Rebels hockey series, featuring three estranged sisters who inherit their late father’s failing hockey franchise and are forced to confront a man’s world, their family’s demons, and the battle-hardened ice warriors skating into their hearts.

Harper Chase has just become the most powerful woman in the NHL after the death of her father Clifford Chase, maverick owner of the Chicago Rebels. But the team is a hot mess—underfunded, overweight, and close to tapping out of the league. Hell-bent on turning the luckless franchise around, Harper won’t let anything stand in her way. Not her gender, not her sisters, and especially not a veteran player with an attitude problem, a chip on his shoulder, and a smoldering gaze designed to melt her ice-compacted defenses.

Veteran center Remy “Jinx” DuPre is on the downside of a career that’s seen him win big sponsorships, fans’ hearts, and more than a few notches on his stick. Only one goal has eluded him: the Stanley Cup. Sure, he’s been labeled as the unluckiest guy in the league, but with his recent streak of good play, he knows this is his year. So why the hell is he being shunted off to a failing hockey franchise run by a ball-buster in heels? And is she seriously expecting him to lead her band of misfit losers to a coveted spot in the playoffs?

He’d have a better chance of leading Harper on a merry skate to his bed…

REVIEW: IRRESISTIBLE YOU is the first installment in Kate Meader’s contemporary, adult CHICAGO REBELS erotic, hockey, romance series focusing on three estranged sisters-Harper Chase, Isobel Chase and Violet Vasquez- who recently inherited the struggling NHL hockey franchise the Chicago Rebels. This is Chicago Rebel’s owner, thirty one year old Harper Chase, and Rebel’s newly acquired and aging center, thirty five year old Cajun power house Remy DuPre’s story line. Remy and Harper were first introduced in the prequel novella –IN SKATES TROUBLE (see review below)-found in the hockey anthology HOT ON ICE that focuses on right winger Ford Callaghan and model Addison Williams.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Remy and Harper) IRRESISTIBLE YOU is a story of forbidden romance between team owner Harper Chase and her reluctant, new player acquisition Remy DuPre. Remy’s reputation precedes his introduction to our story line heroine but Remy’s lack of a Stanley Cup is distressing and the one reminder of his otherwise stellar career. Traded to the worse team in the NHL Remy’s attitude and behavior is less than professional, but his attraction to team owner Harper Chase is off the charts. When a deal made in haste forces Harper to accept Remy’s conditions, three months and then a trade, Harper knows her time with Remy is limited, and so too, is the possibility of another broken heart. What ensues is the building relationship between Remy and Harper, and Harper’s ongoing reluctance to accept and acknowledge that man with whom she has fallen in love.

Unlike Harper’s estranged and fractured family dynamics, Remy DuPre comes from a close-knit family with four sisters, and seven nieces. As the only unmarried sibling Remy’s family is constantly pushing our story line hero to settle down, and start a family of his own. Remy’s current plans don’t include a wife and child but retirement seems like the time to settle down with someone to love. Harper Chase is a rarity-the only female owner (along with her sisters) in the NHL-a position that comes with preconceived notions and Harper’s determination to prove that a woman is just a capable as a man in the world of hockey and sports. To this end, our heroine struggles with having it all, including a relationship with a player-someone considered an employee-and the possibility of negative press and scrutiny from players, owners and the public at large. Harper’s has been hurt in the past and doesn’t want a repeat or any more reminders of the who, what and why.

The relationship between Harper and Remy is one of immediate attraction but the tempestuous back and forth, and Harper’s fear of exposure makes our heroine wary of any sort of romance with Remy Dupre. Remy is determined to prove to Harper that she is capable of having it all including falling in love with an aging hockey star. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Harper’s sisters- former women’s professional hockey player Isobel Chase, and Vegas tattoo parlor receptionist/ biker bar waitress Violet Vasquez- two women more or less strangers to our story line heroine. Remy’s Rebel’s defenseman Cade Burnett, team captain Bren St. James. Right winger Ford Callaghan and his love Addison Williams (In Skates Trouble) play secondary and supporting roles .We are also up close and personal with Remy’s parents Blue-grass Grammy award winning musician Alexandre and musicology professor Marie DuPre, as well as three of his sisters Martine, Josette, and Elise, and several of Remy’s nieces. Isobel’s story line is next.

The world building looks behind the scenes of a struggling professional hockey team; the players, the management, the deals and acquisitions., as well as the infighting, the jealousy, and betrayal between players and teams.

IRRESISTIBLE YOU is a fast paced, engaging and enjoyable story line. The premise is playful and lighthearted with moments of drama and tension. The characters are colorful, charismatic and fun; the romance is passionate, tender and provocative. IRRESISTIBLE YOU is an energetic and heartwarming introduction to the Chicago Rebels.

REVIEW: IN SKATE TROUBLE is the prequel novella in Kate Meader’s contemporary adult CHICAGO REBELS erotic, hockey romance series focusing on the NHL team the Chicage Rebels. This is right winger Ford Callaghan, and lingerie model/designer Addison Williams. There is a slight cross-over with the mention of characters from the author’s HOT IN CHICAGO series.

NOTE: IN SKATES TROUBLE was originally released in the multi-authored anthology HOT ON ICE which is no longer available for sale.

Told from dual third person points of view (Ford and Addison) IN SKATES TROUBLE follows the building relationship between the Cup-winning New Orleans Cajun Rajuns right winger Ford Callaghan, and lingerie model and designer Addison Williams. Back in his home-town of Chicago with the Stanley Cup Ford Callaghan will meet the woman of his fantasies, lingerie model Addison Williams, but a woman off limits in more ways than one. Keeping their relationship on the down-low finds Ford frustrated with the endless possibilities if only they were honest with the people in control. What ensues is the back and forth, hot and cold secret romance between Ford and Addison, as Addison struggles with a past that could potentially harm Callaghan’s future.

IN SKATES TROUBLE is a quick read that introduces some of the background and characters to the Chicago Rebels series including Rebel’s new owner Harper Chase, and her newly acquired center Remy DuPre. When Ford Callaghan reveals the truth about his relationship with Addison Williams, Ford sealed his fate, and his future with the woman he loves. The premise is energetic; the romance is passionate and intense; the characters are colorful and spirited. IN SKATES TROUBLE is a sexy and sassy start to a new series.

Excerpt

“Remy!” A tall redhead wearing what looked like a band of gauze lassoing two Goodyear blimps threw her arms around his neck. “I can’t believe you’re here!”
The new arrival practically knocked Harper out of the way, pretzeled her stacked body around Remy’s, and sucked on the Cajun’s lips like an anteater. It took him a good three and a half seconds—but who was counting?—before he drew back.
“Have we met, chérie?”
“We have now, Jinx,” she purred. “I just wanted to welcome you to Chi-Town. Properly.”
His mouth hardened slightly. “Well, it sure is a pleasure, but right now I’m kind of in the middle of something, so I’ll have to take a rain check.” His eyes flickered over the woman’s shoulder to where Harper was sipping on her whiskey, enjoying the show. She had a perfect view of the woman’s tramp stamp—the positively poetic Get Some with an arrow pointing down—along with her above-the-waistband leopardprint thong.
Goodyear Blimps speared a look designed to put Harper six feet under twice over and then quickly recalibrated her smile for Remy. From her cleavage, she extracted a (crumpled, undoubtedly sweatstained) business card and placed it in Remy’s jeans pocket. It took a few moments to ensure it was safely secured.
“The welcome offer is open-ended, Jinx.”
Another wince crossed Remy’s face, though Goodyear missed it as she was too busy trying to maintain her center of gravity on her totter toward the bar.
“ ‘The welcome offer is open-ended, Jinx ,’ ” Harper mimicked in her most breathless gush, adding a bout of vehement eyelash batting into the mix.
“Don’t be jealous, now, Harper. I sent her away, didn’t I?”

Interview with Photographer and Cover Model Danilo Andjus

Interview with Photographer and Cover Model Danilo Andjus

TRC: Hi Danilo and welcome to The Reading Café.

Danilo Andjus 4Danilo: Good afternoon to the Reading cafe and all the readers, thanks for the invitation to do the interview. Hope my answers won’t be too boring 🙂

TRC: We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Follow Danilo: Facebook / Website-Andjus Images / Instagram

Danilo: My name is Danilo Andjus, I’m 25 years old and I am from Belgrade, Serbia, which you could say is my base, but because of my work I am mostly traveling around the world.

My main focus is on lifestyle photography for the istock by gettyimages company, but I’m still doing direct bookings in modeling which was my main job until about 3-4 years ago when I was traveling around and working for many different agencies around the globe. I can say I lead a very dynamic life filled with many adventures combining work and pleasure.

TRC: What were your dreams and aspirations growing up?

Danilo Andjus covers

Danilo: Well I think, like most people, as a kid my dreams changed from day to day. :D:D But the first thing that comes to my mind was the dream of becoming a professional football player when I was about 7-8 years old, a dream I pursued until I was 17-18 years old. I suffered an injury than, and had to stop playing (professionally).

TRC: When not modeling what is your ‘day job’?

Danilo: My day job and everyday job is as a photographer

TRC: What first sparked your interest in modeling? Is there a defining moment where you knew that modeling was something you were interested in pursuing?

Danilo Andjus 3Danilo: To be honest I didn’t know much about modeling, and most of what I knew was basic stereotypical stuff that usually people who don’t know much think about modeling. I started modeling in a very spontaneous way, it was exactly in the period after I suffered that injury and couldn’t play football anymore. One day I was chilling with my cousin and she had to take some keys to her neighbors so I went with her to keep her company. Her neighbor turned out to be a famous and respected fashion stylist and designer. He saw a potential in me and started asking questions. In the beginning I was not so interested but after some encouragement from my friends and family I went with the flow and this stylist connected me with some agencies in my city which then after just a few days offered me contracts to go work around the world. Starting with China which I think is the main place for most of the ‘’modeling beginners’’, I began the journey of modeling. The rest is history hahah .

TRC: Have you ever had a photo shoot that went completely wrong?

Danilo Andjus grouping

Danilo: Well I think the one that definitely went wrong was when I was doing a shoot in Milan, and Milan is known to be full of very (really very) skinny models, but I was at the time, lets say, a bit ‘’stronger’’. I was already booked for this job where the client really liked me and while I was getting ready for the shoot, putting on clothes, the client was explaining to be careful with the clothes because they were very expensive and how even the buttons were special. In that exact moment, the button on the pants I was trying to fit in and were much smaller then my size, just popped out – BOOM – and hit the client in the head as my pants dropped. I was thinking in my head – Hmm okay Danilo, one job less, and maybe few burgers less next time, no stress. 😀

TRC: Nudity in modeling or acting can be controversial. Some pictures can cross the line between sexuality to pornography. What would you tell young models/actors /body builders just entering the business about nude modeling and photography?

Danilo Andjus CoverDanilo: From my point of view I never had any ‘’dirty offers’’ for shootings, but it can happen that you are asked to shoot a campaign for some underwear that is maybe too transparent or too erotic, so my advise is, as I do it too, always ask for pictures of the clothes before the job so you can check for yourself whats it about. I did many underwear campaigns and I really never had any major problem.

Once, in Shanghai, China, my agent told me I was booked to shoot a campaign for pyjamas and I had to fly to another city for the job. Once I arrived, while I was waiting in the studio, I was looking at the clothes and saw some G-string underwear hanging there, so I told the stylist sorry but this will obviously take too long because I only see girls underwear here, which means the clothes I need to shoot didn’t even arrive yet. And he just answered: off course they arrived, it’s these ones and showed me the G-strings hanging there. 😀 😀

I was very pissed for the miscommunication between my agency and the client and in just one hour I was back on the plane to Shangai, since I, naturally, didn’t shoot the g-strings hahah

Danilo Andjsu 9TRC: The modeling industry exposes you to many people and sometimes it can be very stressful. What do you do when the stress becomes overwhelming?

Danilo: Well I don’t think modeling specifically exposes you to many people.

Everyday life exposes you to many people. Its about how much each one of us wants to be exposed or not.

And the stress is very often there but mostly not because of people, but because of 5am call times for shootings, shootings for winter jackets on 40 degrees on some tropical island. Or the opposite: shooting swimwear on 10 degrees in the sea, flying every day to a different town, living out of your own suitcase and planes, and many other things.

TRC: At times, there has been a ‘stigma’ surrounding the male model and the romance-cover industry but the popularity of the romance storyline has skyrocketed in the last few years especially with the erotic and sensual cover images. What is your opinion about the recent popularity and the very busy industry of the ‘romance cover model’?

Danilo Andjus Cover 2Danilo: I can see that in the past years the popularity grew very fast, but to be honest except me being on many covers I don’t have connections to any romance books nor I read them.
I read comic books,sci-fi and crime books 😀

TRC: What do you do to prepare yourself for a shoot?

Danilo: If you mean in the way of training what I do, i do not go to the gym (a lot). My main thing to keep in shape is that I play sports 5 times a week, football and basketball.

TRC: Do you know the number of novel covers that your image has appeared?

Danilo: I don’t remember to be honest 🙂

TRC: What is the most outrageous thing you have had to wear or do for a photo shoot?

Danilo: Hm lets say the most outrageous or just funny clothes was when I actually shot for a brand that makes work uniforms, so I was the post man, the milk man, the garbage man, the police man, the fire man, and the construction worker. And NO, it was not a pornographic shoot hahaha

TRC: Would you please tell us what you do to relax? Have fun?

Danilo Andjus 8Danilo: Well most of my free time I spend it with the most beautiful woman in the world who is also my girlfriend, and with friends and family, they are cool too. I have an older brother and a sister, Im the youngest. 🙂 I can definitely say when its all of us together its always a recipe for good fun.

We love to go to cinema, eat all kinds of different food, travel a lot, play mortal combat on ps4 😀 go clubbing in different places, pre-drinking on my balcony that becomes the main party many times etc etc

TRC: What three things would you like to accomplish in the next five years?

Danilo Andjus 5Danilo: hmm I’m really more then satisfied and happy, I have a beautiful family, girlfriend and friends, an amazing job that is growing day by day and that takes me around the world, so I can’t complain, nor say the exact 3 things I feel like accomplishing… everything is going on its good way I just need to ride along…maybe own a Ferrari would be nice though hahaha

TRC: What is something that few, if anybody, knows about you?

Danilo: That I am Batman shhhhh !

TRC: 😉

TRC: What do you believe is the biggest misconception about modeling ?

Danilo: There are many misconceptions about modeling which cause the usual stereotypes. People who don’t know anything about modeling, or the ones who consider Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton or god knows what Escort with million followers on social networks as examples of professional models… And then start asking questions like is there a lot of prostitution in your line of work? Escorts? Do they ask you to do this or that? Do you need to sleep with clients to get a job? And many similar questions… Also what is definitely very annoying is when i see silicon girls on social networks calling themselves ‘’MODELS”. Apples and oranges, people. It’s just a shame for all those hardworking models to be put in the same spot and compared to people mentioned above.

TRC: What type of music do you listen to? What songs are on your playlist today?

Danilo: I listen to hip hop, house music when I’m going out, and when I’m working, chilling or answering interviews I listen to jazz, blues and Brazilian music. 🙂

Danilo Andjus 6

TRC: On what on your currently working?

Danilo: I am currently working on how to best enjoy my one month holiday! haha! I just arrived from Dubrovnik, Croatia where I’ve been with my girlfriend for a week and now I’m in my summer house in Sveti Stefan, Montenegro enjoying the summer. After Montenegro we’ll be going to Greece, so I can’t complain! 🙂

Jokes aside, new work plans are cooking for September when its gonna be very busy..

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Danilo: I think I already spoke too much hahaha

LIGHTNING ROUND

Favorite Food: Sushi and mom’s Cous Cous ( actually all mom’s kitchen)

Favorite Dessert: Lindt chocolate, Brazilian dessert called Brigadeiro and beer of course haha

Guilty Pleasure: Ordering junk food at 2am, drinking liters of beer and playing ps4 with friends until birds don’t come out in the morning 😀 😀

Cat Shining Bright
Joe Grey Mystery series – Book #20
by Shirley Rousseau Murphy
Release Date: August 15, 2017
cat shining brightAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
The stakes are higher and more personal than ever for feline investigator Joe Grey when death comes to his beloved coastal California town in this twentieth installment of the enchanting cat mystery series.

While new father Joe Grey is overjoyed to teach his three young kittens about the world, he misses his cop work — secretly helping solve crimes alongside his human friends at Molena Point P. D. But when beautician Barbara Conley and one of her customers are found dead in the salon, Joe makes an exception, he heads for the crime scene. He has no idea that the kittens are following him, or how they will complicate the investigation.

But this is not the only danger to the kittens. A stranger is lurking around the home of Joe’s tabby lady, Dulcie, where the kittens were born. Both parents’ backs are up and their claws out, ready to protect their babies and to protect Wilma Getz, Dulcie’s human housemate.

As the death of the beautician becomes entangled with a gang of thieves working the village, Joe, Dulcie, Kit and Pan are all into the investigation; and they are led to unexpected connections, to the building of the new cat shelter and to a neighbor who becomes suddenly an unexpected part of the tangle.

Review:

Cat Shining Bright by Shirley Rousseau Murphy is the 20th book in her fabulous & fun Joe Grey series.  I have read every book in this series, and it is one of my favorite go to books when I want a sweet lighthearted mystery with a group of wonderful talking cats, and their humans.  These are magical sentient cats that live in Molena Point, California, but only their humans close to them know, and the cats are the real ones who solve the crimes.   I am amazed that into the 20th book, Murphy can still win us over each and every time.  I adore our cats, Joe, Dulcie and Kit.  They are awesome, sweet, daring, and clever.  The humans who are a major part of this series, are Clyde and Ryan; Wilma, Charlie (who is married to the police chief, and he does not know about the cats).  They are all an awesome group that makes this series so much fun and exciting.

In Cat Shining Bright, Dulcie has given birth to three kittens, two boys and a girl, and Joe, the proud father, is finally able to get past the stress of Dulcie giving birth.  Joe and Dulcie have always been a team from the start of this series, and we have enjoyed the love they have for each other.  A few books later, we met the wonderful sweet and daring Kit, who found her own love, Pan recently. It will take a few months, with everyone waiting with anticipation, for the kittens to begin to talk.  It was very well written and fun when they did.

It is Kit and Pan who will discover a car theft ring stealing cars during a storm; this after the death of a beautician found in her salon with a customer.  Though Joe has been spending most of his time with his kittens and Dulcie, he becomes intrigued by the car thefts, and will join Pan and Kit in their investigations.  The Molena Police department has gotten used to Joe entering the station and falling asleep in the Chief’s office’ of course they do not know he listens and learns all the information there.   One day, the kittens became interested in what their father was doing and secretly followed him; Joe will catch them before they are discovered, but their curiosity is now peaked.

What follows is an exciting mystery, trying to find out who murdered the two people, and who was behind all the car thefts.  There are trying times when Joe, Kit, Pan and even the kittens find themselves in danger.  When Wilma (Dulcie’s human), senses an intruder in her house, she will take Dulcie and the kittens to stay at Clyde & Ryan’s (joe’s humans) house for protection.  Someone knows about the secret book about the magical sentient cats, and their ability to talk; and they want the book.  Besides the cats finding clues, and making secret calls to the police, the humans will also play a big part in solving the crimes.  As I have noted before, I love the characters that have accepted our cats; Charlie, Ryan, Wilma, Clyde, Kate, etc.  We also spend time with the police department characters, such as Max, Dallas, etc, who have no idea about the cats.

This is a fun series, exciting mysteries, and fantastic characters, including cats and humans.  Do not let that fact that these cats can talk deter you into reading this series. It is a fun and awesome series, and so well written my Shirley Rousseau Murphy. Give yourself a chance to read this enjoyable series.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 14, 2017

Kason and Adaline.

From the moment they met, they started to fall. Neither of them predicted just how far the drop would be, though.

Loving Adaline was all Kason had ever wanted to do. But layer by layer, he started to unravel, forcing Adaline to face an addiction she never could’ve imagined.

This is what happens when one person loves beyond the craving and the other craves beyond the loving.

••••••••••

REVIEW: CRAVE Part 1 is the first installment in E.K. Blair’s contemporary, young adult/new adult CRAVE DUET romance series focusing on seventeen year olds Kason and Adaline, high school students whose lives will spiral out of control when demons from the past control action of the present. I will be honest up front and say that I wasn’t initially aware the Crave Duet was a YA/NA story line but I was pleasantly surprised that the author stayed clear of most of the annoying (in my opinion) YA tropes.

Told from dual first person points of view (Adaline and Kason) CRAVE Part 1 follows the building relationship between Adaline and Kason. Adaline is the new girl at school who quickly finds herself part of the popular crowd, a popularity that is marked by jealousy and rumors about our story line heroine. Meeting Kason the first day of school alleviates many of Adaline’s fears but falling in love with Kason is unexpected and real.

CRAVE Part 1 follows a year in the life of two high school teenagers – a year that reveals family secrets, broken souls, and unimaginable guilt and shame. Adaline is an innocent; a sweet, naïve young woman who has yet to experience first love, $ex or too much drama in her life. Kason is a young man struggling to keep up appearances in the face of the truth-a truth that if revealed could destroy his relationship with the young woman he loves. Kason’s silence hides a multitude of secrets and sins but will Adaline’s love be enough to help him heal?

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Adaline’s friend from back home Molly, and Kason’s buds Micah, Trent and Rhett, as well as the introduction of Kason and Adaline’s mothers-two woman whose lives have gone in opposite directions.

CRAVE Part 1 is a simple read; most of the teens are typical, nothing too rebellious or over the top but our story line hero struggles with a past mired in dark secrets and shame. Unlike most YA story lines there is no love triangle (thank goodness), and the parental units are more or less respectable, understanding and normal-the relationship between Adaline and her father is tense and stressful but not unlike many relationships between parent and child in situations of divorce or second families.

CRAVE Part 1 is an emotional story line with plenty of ups and downs, twists, and revelations. Friendships will be made and lost; love with falter in the face of betrayal and lies. The premise is engaging and edgy; the characters are colorful, dynamic and charismatic; the romance is sweet; the $ex scenes are intimate, mostly implied or fade to black, without the use of sexually graphic, over the top language and text but saying that there are some issues between our story line couple that are addressed with honesty and clarity.

E.K. Blair touches on a potentially controversial subject-a subject many people do not completely understand. The author, as well as the leading couple, handle the sensitivity with maturity and grace with the understanding that not all is well in the young hero’s life.

CRAVE Part 1 ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

REVIEW: RIGGS is the third installment in Crimson Syn’s contemporary, adult HELL’S LOVERS MC erotic, romance novella series focusing on the men and women of the Hell’s Lovers MC. This is thirty three year old tracker/ road captain Jason Riggs, and eighteen year old waitress Luna Cordova’s story line. RIGGS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: RIGGS contains scenes of graphic violence, sexual assault, and erotic ‘daddy play’ which may not be suitable for all readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Luna and Riggs) RIGGS focuses on the building relationship between Luna Cordova and Jason Riggs. Months earlier, Jason Riggs came to Luna’s rescue following a sexual assault that left our heroine fragile, homeless and in need of some TLC. For six months Riggs fantasized about the woman currently living in his apartment, an apartment he no longer called his own. Tired of waiting for Riggs to make the first move, Luna discovers our hero’s fetish, and begins a sultry seduction of the man who wants her to call him ‘daddy’. What ensues is the building relationship between Luna and Riggs, and the continuing search for the elusive members of the Los Perdidos MC. Threats will be made, and Luna will become payment for sins of the past.

RIGGS is an erotic, novella length story; a dark, gritty and edgy story about two people struggling with their attraction to one another, and one man’s need for a woman to call his own. The premise is dramatic; the characters are broken and colorful; the $ex scenes are carnal, steamy and explosive. The character building is a little more detailed than in the previous story lines. We learn about Luna and Riggs’ heartbreaking pasts, and the earlier years that shaped the man and woman they have become.

PROLOGUE
Six months ago…
“SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK?”
“She’s got a nice curve to her.”
“How long do you think before I have to pick her up?”
“Give me about a week with her and I’ll have her all primed up so you can
ride her away into the sunset, bro.”
“Make sure you take good care of her.”
“Dude it’s a paint job, not rocket science. Pick her up in a week.”
I walked out of Knox’s repair shop feeling hesitant and even a little
strange having to walk home. But Knox had promised me a paint job and who
better to do it than one of the brothers. I was feeling absolutely exhausted and
completely out of it. I had just finished a job and my body was finally feeling it.
I’m in the business of stalking people. Not the type of stalking your
perverted little mind is thinking about, although that kind could definitely be a
lot of fun. No. I do surveillance installments for a special array of clients. I had
built a pretty good reputation of keeping to myself and keeping my mouth shut.
Word spreads pretty quickly around the more affluent members of society, and
every now and then I’d get a call with pretty high payouts. A good side job to
have as a Hell’s Lovers, it gave us access to a lot of information with a lot of
profitable benefits.
In this particular case, the lady wanted surveillance done on her cheating
husband. I had placed a few cameras in the house, but I needed to set up visual
and audio in his office at work. Getting in without being noticed was the
hardest part, especially when I had to infiltrate the security system first.
Did I mention I also handled a few hacking jobs on the side.
Nights like this were few and far between, but like I said, this job alone
would pay my rent for at least a year. The way I saw it, it had to be done, and it
felt great to add another zero to the amount in my savings account.
The streets were dead silent and I was deep in thought as I crossed the
street and headed to my apartment. A shrill scream coming from one of the
warehouse alleys stopped me dead in my tracks. I froze and waited, but I didn’t
hear anything else. Out of the corner of my eye, about a block away, I saw a
young girl run out into the street only to be dragged back into the shadows.
This part of the street had more than a few broken street lamps, and my body
tensed as I tried to adjust my eyes to the darkness. At the same time, I was
assessing my surroundings, but the back streets were always pretty much empty
at this time of night.
I slowly made my way up the block, keeping myself on alert in case
someone jumped out at me. I was ex-Navy Seal, sneaking up on someone was
my expertise. Well, that and being able to use anything in my reach as a
weapon, now that was a honed trait.
As I rounded the corner, her piercing scream shot me into action and my
survival instincts kicked in. As I came up to the dark alley anger coursed
through my veins. The man was a big guy, taller than me, and that’s pretty big
considering I’m six two. The girl looked so tiny and fragile pressed up into the
concrete wall. Her jeans were at her ankles and he was struggling to pull his
own pants down as he dug his hands in between her legs.
“Open up, you fucking whore! Don’t you dare fight me! It’s fucking time I
get paid for all the shit I’ve given you!”
I scowled in disgust at him and went right into action, stealthily coming up
behind them. Her big blue innocent eyes focused on me, unshed tears making
them glisten. In that moment, I felt the dire need to save her and take her far
away from there. She was a fighter and immediately began struggling harder
as I approached. But the mother fucker didn’t like that, and he reached back and
punched her in the gut taking her breath away.
Feeling as if all the demons were carrying me over to them, I grabbed the
collar of his shirt and held him in a vice grip. Catching him off guard, I put all
my strength into my fist and punched him twice on the side, right up against the
liver. He grunted and staggered back. Her knees gave way and she dropped to
the ground. I stepped in to grab her before she collapsed to the floor.
Taking her in my arms, I leaned her gently back against the wall. Her eyes
met mine for a brief moment. “Give me a second, baby girl. I’ll be right back.
I then turned back to the piece of shit behind me. In his hurry to get at her,
one hand was struggling to keep his pants pulled up while the other held a
blade.
“She’s fucking mine!” he yelled out.
I growled in anger and lunged at him. He swung his arm around, but I
caught him by the wrist and squeezed. His eyes widened and his mouth opened
in horror at the sound of his bone cracking. He screamed as his fingers
released the knife. I hit him with a clear upper cut that sent him sprawling onto
the pavement a few feet away from me. I had to be careful or I’d kill him. My
training taught me how to kill, but it also taught me control. I straddled his
large form and grabbed him up by the collar. I punched with precision, twice in
the nose, a feeling of satisfaction running through me as I heard the crack. He
groaned and grabbed his face. I fisted his shirt and forced him to look at me.
“I see you around here again and I’ll fucking end you.” I shoved him back
and the coward crumpled back on the pavement and scurried into a corner.
I went back to the fainted beauty. Dark raven locks flowed around her face
and I pushed them back and lingered on her soft features. She looked young
and fragile. My eyes took in her long lashes that touched high rosy
cheekbones. Her red lips were slightly parted and her breathing was soft and
steady. I looked down and her shirt had been torn open exposing two round
pillows that were encased in what looked like the softest lace, a little worn
from use. The urge to lean my head there was sudden, and unexpected.
I swallowed hard and scrunched my eyes shut. Looking up to the sky, I let
my hands guide me as they trailed down her naked thighs and knees until I
found the waistband of her panties. Not looking at her was even worse. As my
hands drifted over her, I could feel her soft warmth even more intensely.
Hastily, I lifted her, dragging her jeans up over her hips and waist. Her tiny
body leaned against mine and the soft scent of lavender filled the air around
her. I breathed her in as I cradled her in my arms and walked the five blocks to
my apartment.
As soon as I entered the dark space, I slammed the door shut and made my
way into the bedroom. I laid her on my bed and took a good long look at the
delicate beauty. She was so young, so innocent. For some reason, my body
became alive with arousal, but I kept myself under control. She was pulling at
my body with some sort of invisible magnet and I was in complete shock at
myself. My mind filled with thoughts of how sweet her cunt would taste on my
lips, and how long and sleek her hair was, perfect to twist around my fist,
giving me control over her small body as I drove my cock snugly inside of
her.
I turned and left her lying there. I walked out and took the elevator up to
Grayson’s loft. I needed a place to crash, and the club’s VP had plenty of rooms
to spare. To be honest, I didn’t trust myself to be near her, didn’t trust myself to
be alone with her.
Images of her face and body kept drifting in and out of my thoughts and
my dreams all night. I woke up early the next morning and went down to see
her. I needed to know that she was real.
She looked so damn beautiful as she opened the door. She must have
rummaged through my clothes and was wearing an old Nirvana t-shirt I had
tucked in a drawer. Her perky breasts pushed at the fabric letting me know she
had nothing on underneath.
My eyes travelled down to her long sultry legs and I just stood there,
imagining them wrapped around me. She shifted and my eyes met hers, her
eyes shined brightly back at me and when she smiled my heart slammed into
my throat.
“Hi,” she whispered.
“Hi, yourself.” I watched her carefully as she stepped back and let me in.
She looked so tiny in my apartment and all I wanted to do was cradle her on
my lap and murmur sweet nothings into her ear. My cock jumped and I quickly
rounded the kitchen counter, trying to put as much space as I could between us.
I cleared my throat. “Did you sleep well?”
She folded her hands in front of her, shyly playing with the hem of the
shirt. She looked so virginal in that one moment and I could feel my blood
flowing hotly down to my groin. I stifled a groan.
“Um…yes.” Her answer was a soft whisper.
“Did you eat?”
“You…don’t have any food.”
“Fuck.” I grimaced and rummaged through the cabinets to find something.
I sighed when I came up empty handed. “I’ll get you something.”
She nodded and I looked down, not sure what else to say. After a few
seconds she broke the silence.
“Thank you…for last night. My foster father can be a bit brutal.”
“You’re foster father?” my astonishment showed in my face .
She nodded and when she spoke it was the softest of whispers, I had to
strain to hear her. “We had an argument last night. I…I told him I was running
away and he chased me out into the street. I never thought he’d go that far.”
I listened carefully to her confession and a million questions arose, but I
went with the most important of them all. “Has he ever touched you before?”
“No. He’s said stuff to me, but never laid his hands on me.”
“Fucker!” I looked her up and down. She looked thin and frail. “Do you
have a place to stay?”
She bit her bottom lip and once again my cock stirred. “Not really.”
“Then you’re staying here.”
“But…”
I shook my head. “You need a place to stay and this place is as good as
any.”
“I don’t want to intrude…”
I took the three short strides up to her. Taking her chin in my hand, I lifted
it slightly, having her look up at me. “What’s your name, baby girl?”
She hesitated for a moment before answering. “Luna.”
I waited for a last name, but she stayed quiet and I accepted that. If she
didn’t want me knowing her name, I wasn’t going to force her. “Luna, I’m
Jason Riggs. Most people call me Riggs.”
She smiled sweetly and my heart melted. “Hi, Riggs.”
“Hi, baby girl.” I stared at those pretty blue eyes for a good long minute
and then stepped away from her. “You can stay here as long as you’d like. No
worries about me. I can stay at a friend’s.”
“You won’t stay here with me?”
I turned to her and gave her a wolfish grin. “Baby girl, I’m gonna’ be real
honest with you. I’m a grown man, and if I stay here with you, watching you
wear my shirts like you do, I won’t hesitate to take you in my arms until your
moaning my name. You understand me?”
Her cheeks tinted a rosy pink and she looked down to the floor.
I stood up and grabbed a bag from my room, stuffing it with jeans, shirts
and the necessary stuff. I didn’t need much, I never did. When I came out I
noticed she was still wearing my shirt and was perched on one of the kitchen
stools.
I stood in the hall entrance, leisurely taking my time gazing over her legs,
I wanted to keep the mental picture in my mind for as long as possible. When
my eyes travelled up to her lips, I noticed them slightly part and she gasped
softly as her eyes lingered on me.
I shook my head as I headed towards the entrance. I opened the door and
turned to look at her one last time. “Don’t worry about food. I’ll take care of it.
If you need anything, anything at all, I left my number on the nightstand for
you with an extra set of keys.”
Without letting her respond, I slammed the door behind me and trudged
up to Grayson’s apartment. If I stayed with her, there was no telling what I’d do
to her. I wasn’t about to leave her completely alone, and at least if I was
upstairs I would be close by if she needed me. There was something about
Luna that captured me, for the life of me I just didn’t know why.

About the Author

My name is Crimson Syn, not really, but what fun is it to use my real name. Instead I’ll use my inner goddess’ name, it’s much more fun that way. I grew up in New York City where I had a wonderful education, loving parents and awesome friends. What more could a girl ask for?

I started writing at the age of sixteen. The first romance I read was Stephanie Laurens’ Devil’s Bride. Since then I have been influenced by dozens of flourishing romance authors and even more dashing and daring rogues. I must say it, but Fifty Shades was not my first erotic romance, nor did it influence me to start writing them. If you’ve never read Mary Balogh, Elizabeth Hoyt, Lisa Kleypas, Bertrice Small or A.N. Roquelaure’s Sleeping Beauty trilogy, then you’re missing out. Those were my sweet introductions to erotic romance, and boy were they hot.

So here I am, after reading so many wonderful stories, I have too many sinful tales of my own not to share. I like my alphas rough and possessive, and I have no shame in saying it or writing it. I had delightfully wicked teachers growing up, their books took me to new worlds and brought me new loves. So, I want to do the same for you. I want to indulge my readers in those steamy reads that will send them into the arms of dangerous alphas and deliciously sexy rogues, without leaving the confines of their nice warm bed. If I am able to entice your inner goddesses, then I have done my job and I am satisfied.

As he finally tracks down the beast, he’s suddenly distracted by the newest Argos recruit – the sexy vixen who also broke his heart – and the battle takes a deadly turn. Now with the recruit in the beast’s sights, both she and Levi are instantly marked for death.

If Cary Stone’s secret is revealed (she’s a demon half-breed, after all), she’ll be thrown straight into Hell. After a lifetime following her father’s advice – never let anyone get close, never stay too long in one city, and ALWAYS work alone – in the past year she’s broken all the rules.

Not only did she get a job hunting demons, she also fell in love with the most badass hunter of them all. Oh and, if things weren’t interesting enough, she managed to grab the top spot on the hit list of the biggest mercenary in Hell. Yeah, shit just got real.

Review:

Demon’s Mark by T.F. Walsh is the 2nd book in her Hell Unleashed series. Cary and Levi….Cary and Levi…..CARY AND LEVI! You want to talk about a hot, sexy bad ass couple.  They’ve got it all.  Sparks are flying everywhere, the attraction is off the charts.  They work together to kick demon butt all over town.  They both have enough attitude to fill up a football stadium.  No damsel in distress or wimpy dude located here.  Once again, this is a story that is jam packed with amazing plot twists, action and a smoking hot love story.  Add in the fact that Cary is a demon half-breed and has the major hots for Levi, her demon hunting partner, and we’ve got a seriously awesome storyline.  Levi finds out Cary is half demon when Argos sends out a text message calling all hunters to track Cary down with a bounty being paid of $100k.  How can he love her and hate her at the same time?  How is it possible she is possessed? Oh and let’s not forget that Cary has also been marked by a demon in Hell.  Demon hunters tracking her down AND demons from hell on her heels too?  Well, isn’t that just the most romantic situation you’ve ever read about?

Each twist and turn had me biting my nails, anticipating what would happen next.  How will Levi handle the news that Cary is a cambion?  Will her try to capture her and collect the money? Or will he protect her from the hunters and the demons?  Let’s not forget Blinkie, the really ugly hellhound that bounded out of hell to help her. Why does she now have a hellhound by her side and why is she the only one who can see him?  Levi can’t see the hound, but he can feel him licking his face. How do you explain that?  How will they remove the demon mark?  And will they actually survive?

Walsh’s writing has the perfect blend of everything, amazing characters, imaginative plots and action that makes your mouth drop open.  I can’t express how much I enjoyed reading this book and riding the roller coaster of emotions right along with Cary and Levi.  One aspect of her writing that I love is she writes from both Levi and Cary’s perspective and it gives so much more meaning and depth to the story.  It’s intriguing to read how each character interprets the same situation in their own way.  All I can say if you read any of T.F. Walsh books is to hold onto your seat, it’s going to be an amazing ride!

REVIEW: BLADE is the latest addition to the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights anthology, and the twenty third installment in Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright’s dual authored, contemporary, adult BAYOU HEAT paranormal, romance novella series focusing on the Pantera shifters of the Wildlands of Louisiana. This is Suit pantera Blade, and human waitress Valli’s story line. BLADE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

SOME BACKGROUND: The pantera are a secretive group of puma shifters living in the magical Wildlands of Louisiana. Their existence is threatened by a group known to capture, imprison, and cruelly experiment upon the shifters in the hopes of creating a super soldier blending pantera and human DNA. The labs at Bensen Enterprises have been destroyed but the scientists and people in charge continue to inflict pain and suffering upon those whose lives they have tried to destroy.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Valli and Blade) BLADE follows pantera shifter Blade as he searches for the human female impregnated with his seed. Blade only knows that the female is on the run, somewhere near the Louisiana Bayou, and our hero is desperate to find the woman who may be carrying one of the few successfully bred cubs. Once found, Valli accuses Blade of hideous crimes, crimes that Blade knows nothing about. What ensues is the struggle to reveal the truth, and the building relationship between Valli and Blade that will be threatened when someone comes looking for our story line heroine.

BLADE is a quick read; a fast paced story of insta-lust and love between a pantera and the human who carries the hopes of their species. The premise is energetic but predictable; the characters are passionate and emotional; the romance is fated and intense-another pantera shifter will find his mate in the Wildlands of Louisiana.

excerpt

Walking out of the kitchen with careful steps, Valli wondered if Fran suspected she wasn’t feeling well. Again. If so, the older woman would insist that she go upstairs to bed. It was such a temptation, but it would not only leave Fran alone to deal with both cooking and waiting tables—it would be a reminder of the last time she’d been unwell. And she couldn’t risk losing her job, even if Fran let her stay upstairs while she hired out again. She had to push through.
Once out of the kitchen, she scurried down the short hallway that led to the women’s bathroom. Crossing to the sink, she splashed cold water on her face, taking deep breaths.
After a moment or two the dizziness receded but was replaced by a strange sense of euphoria. As if something, or someone, was filling her with pure joy.
Unnerved by the sensation, Valli rushed out of the bathroom, only to slam into a man who was just entering the hallway.
Dr. Scott Richards reached out to grasp her by the shoulders, preventing her from bouncing away like a pinball.
“Valli, are you okay?” he asked in concern.
She instantly pulled away from his touch. It wasn’t personal. The doctor was young and boy-next-door handsome, with his dark blond hair and bright blue eyes. He even had dimples. But since her return from the clinic she didn’t want anyone touching her. Especially not men.
She forced a smile to her lips. “Sorry, Dr. Richards.”
He clicked his tongue. “How many times do I need to tell you to call me Scott? Dr. Richards was my dad.”
She took another step backward. Since her arrival in Bonne, she sensed that Scott wanted more from her than just a doctor/patient relationship.
“Scott,” she reluctantly offered.
“That’s better.” He flashed his dimples. “Now why don’t you join me for a cup of coffee? You look like you could use some caffeine.”
“I’m fine.”
He frowned. “You’re pale.”
“I’m working a double shift, so it’s been a long day.”
“Hmm.” His gaze studied the shadows she knew marred the skin beneath her eyes before lowering to her loose smock. Did he suspect there was something she was trying to hide? Or was he just surprised in her choice of uniform? “I think you need to come in for a checkup.”
A flush of anxiety moved through Valli at his words. She pressed herself against the wall and began to inch her way toward the back door that served as an emergency exit.
She liked this man. She really did. But there was no way in hell she was allowing him to examine her. No way in hell she was letting him even get close enough to try.
“I told you when I returned to town that I was cured.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 5, 2017

A snow leopard shifter in the prime of his life, the last thing on August’s mind is tying himself to one female. He welcomes a different one to his bed each night, or at least he had until five months ago when he became alpha. The duties and pressures of running his pride have his libido dead on arrival—until a trip to London to discuss business with the former alpha lands him in the path of a beautiful, bewitching tigress who awakens a passion in him that flares white hot and a need of her that consumes his every moment.

Promised at birth to a male she has never met, Maya has left her pride behind to go to the tiger alpha who is to be her mate, but she can’t leave without saying goodbye to her older brother, Talon. A stop in London at Underworld to see him one last time turns out far different, and far more dangerous, than how she had imagined it when she sets eyes on an alluring crimson-haired stranger who stirs new, unbidden feelings in her, desires that rouse her fiercest and most frightening instincts and demand she stake a claim on him—her fated mate.

Will Maya be strong enough to place her pride and her family’s safety before the desires of her own heart? And will August unravel his feelings for the black-haired beauty before it’s too late and he loses her forever?

REVIEW: TAMED BY A TIGER is the thirteenth installment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult ETERNAL MATES paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is snow leopard shifter August, and tiger shifter Maya’s story line. TAMED BY A TIGER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. This particular arc of the series focuses on the tiger shifter pride members-Talon, Maya and Grey

Told from dual third person perspectives (Maya and August) TAMED BY A TIGER follows snow leopard shifter August as he must come to terms with his position as Alpha within the pride-a reluctant alpha who stepped in when the reigning alpha walked away to be with the woman he loved. What August never expected to find in London at the supernatural shifter bar Underworld, was the woman that called to the leopard within. Maya was a tiger shifter, and promised to another male. Snow leopard laws forbid August to choose a mate outside of his species but August knew that Maya was his female to claim. When Maya leaves to be mated to another male, August suspects not all is right, and sets into motion a plan to rescue his fated mate.

TAMED BY A TIGER, like many of Felicity’s previous installments, is more of a narrative; a story that reveals the inner most thoughts, emotions and struggles of two shifters whose lives will be changed in the blink of an eye. There is limited communication between any of the characters, including our leading couple; most of the story line is told through introspective thoughts and meanderings as Maya and August battle for control of their hearts and emotions. The lone $ex scene is intimate and intense. August’s snow leopard needs to claim Maya as his mate.

TAMED BY A TIGER is an action packed story of family and fated mates; of shifter values and traditions; of changes to formerly staunch rules and regulations. The premise is fast paced and entertaining; the romance is limited to internal thoughts as the couple spends a good portion of the story line apart.

Excerpt

August eased inside the nightclub in one fluid motion before the door closed, not touching it, and stilled in the darkness. The twenty-foot-wide corridor opened out a short distance ahead of him into a huge space. Flashing colourful lights stuttered across the black wooden bar that ran along the right black wall of the club, and the dance floor that filled the rest of the space to the left. It was still busy, close to one hundred people writhing against each other to a heavy rock beat. Halfway up the height of the building, a balcony ran around three sides of the dance floor, only absent above the bar. A few couples were making out up in the booths he could see, and more than one of the enclosed spaces had the curtain drawn across to give the occupants some privacy.
Cool air washed over him, and his nerves vanished, his head growing a little light as he breathed it in. What was in the air conditioning vents? Whatever it was, it was good.
He drifted towards the bar, suddenly feeling mellow and as if he didn’t have a care in the world. The pride? Not a problem. Trade negotiations? Whatever.
A low growl sounded ahead of him.
It rankled a little, and he instinctively flashed fangs, although he wasn’t sure where the threat was coming from.
There were a lot of different species in the club, and he smelled more than one shifter.
And also the shifter he had come to see.
“Sherry, check on the boss,” Cavanaugh’s deep voice rang through the room, cutting through the thumping music.
A pretty blonde of indiscernible breeding bounced along the bar towards him, bringing his gaze with her, and he frowned when she stopped and his eyes settled on the one who had threatened him.
A big, very pissed off looking, male with tousled short sandy hair and enough muscle packed beneath his white shirt to make it clear August wouldn’t win in a fight against him.
At least not in his human form anyway.
The male’s golden eyes glowed, his face in shadow as lights twirled above him, shifting colour.
“Kyter?” The one called Sherry touched his shoulder and he snarled at her. She snatched her hand back, looked over her shoulder, and hollered, “You deal with it. I dealt with him last time!”
Cavanaugh set a tall glass down in front of a male at the bar, heaved a sigh and turned towards him.
Froze.
His grey eyes widened, locked on August, a ripple of surprise crossing his face a second before he scrubbed a hand over his softly-spiked silver hair and stomped towards him.
“I have this,” he said, voice a gruff growl as he approached the female. She squeezed past him and went back to serving the customers. He reached the male at the end of the bar and slapped a hand down on his shoulder, and didn’t release him when he growled at him, baring short fangs. “This is my cousin, August.”
The blond male looked him up and down, curled a lip and pivoted on his heel, striding away from Cavanaugh.
Cavanaugh rolled his broad shoulders, stretching his white shirt even tighter across them, and offered an apologetic smile. “Kyter isn’t good with male shifters wandering in unannounced.”
It was a territory thing.
Now that he knew the male’s name, he knew why he had reacted so badly to his presence.
Kyter owned Underworld, had taken Cavanaugh in a few years back when he had left the pride after Stellan had defeated him. August eyed the blond. According to Cavanaugh, he was a jaguar. Highly territorial.
It explained the pheromones the club was pumping out in the air conditioning.
Cavanaugh grabbed a tall glass, stuck it under one of the pumps, and pulled him a pint. He set it down on the bar and nodded towards it.
“Sit, and tell me what the hell you’re doing here.” His cousin leaned on the bar near the drink.
August walked to it, slid onto the stool and set his duffle down beside him. “I should have called first.”
Cavanaugh’s lips curled at the corners, and his grey eyes twinkled. “You could have just called.”
It hit him hard that he could have. He could have used one of the pride’s satellite phones and called Cavanaugh to talk about how the hell to handle trade negotiations.
Instead, he had got on a plane and flown all the way to London.
“It’s fine,” Cavanaugh said, his smile gaining a sympathetic edge. “Even alphas need a break from time to time. Look at my father. He was always away on ‘business’.”
The feeling that had been building in his gut, a vicious sort of squirming that had set him on edge, eased on hearing that and seeing in Cavanaugh’s eyes that his cousin thought he had done nothing wrong by leaving the pride.
He hadn’t realised that it had been a need to get away, a need to have some space, that had put him on the plane and had him flying away from the pride, from his responsibilities, though. It hadn’t even crossed his mind until Cavanaugh had said it.
He had been so focused on a need to speak with Cavanaugh that he had been convinced the only way to do it was face to face.
August looked down at his beer. Fucking idiot.
Cavanaugh slapped his shoulder, and August was thankful he had chosen his left, and not his right. Damn thing was still healing after their fight against Stellan.
“Don’t beat yourself up. A break will do you good.”
He nodded, lifted his beer to his lips and took a swig. Damn, it was good. Not as good as the homebrew they had at the village, but it was still good. Different. It was freezing cold for a start, not warmed over a fire.
“I lasted all of a month before I took a break.” Cavanaugh grinned at him, and August couldn’t tease him about that.
Cavanaugh had been pushed into a position that had taken him away from Eloise, had separated them because of their status, and it had almost killed him.
It was good to see the old Cavanaugh back though, the one who smiled and laughed. It made everything August had done worth it, and everything he was going through.
“Sometimes I feel as if I’m drowning in all the requests, and appointments… and all the bigger picture shit too… like this trade negotiation in eight days.” August swigged his beer again, savouring the crisp coldness of it that turned to heat as it slid down into his stomach.
Cavanaugh rested both forearms on the black bar top and his eyes searched August’s, his face a mask of seriousness.
“When were you thinking of going back?”
August shrugged. “The day after tomorrow. That’s the next flight.”
His cousin pulled his phone from the pocket of his black trousers, swiped over the screen as it illuminated his face, making his eyes more silver than grey, and then shoved it away again.
“Make it the one after. It’s only four days… but it will be good for you.”
He found himself nodding, because four days sounded heavenly. He needed some space, some time to get his head straight and learn from Cavanaugh about how to run the pride. He would still be back in time for the meeting.
Cavanaugh was right.
Some time away would be good for him.
He hadn’t noticed that the club was emptying until a door off to his left, beyond the end of the bar, opened, throwing a flash of white light across the room. He glanced there, and couldn’t stop the smile that curved his lips when he saw the pretty brunette stood with her back to the door, her golden-brown eyes searching the length of the bar.
Eloise.
She spotted him and her smile lit up her face. She lifted her arm, pulling up the hem of her plain dark t-shirt with it, and waved.
Cavanaugh’s dark grey gaze swung her way and brightened, a corona of pure silver ringing his pupils as he saw his mate.
Eloise hurried towards them on August’s side of the bar, and rocked him by pulling him into a hug the moment she was within reach. “I thought I smelled company.”
Cavanaugh growled at his mate, or was it him? It didn’t stop August from hugging her back, squeezing her tight and earning another low snarl from his cousin.
Eloise released him, leaned over the bar beside him, caught hold of the front of Cavanaugh’s white shirt and pulled him towards her. She kissed him. It was one way of shutting his cousin up. Cavanaugh grabbed her under her arms and hauled her over the bar.
August snatched his beer a split-second before Eloise’s legs swept through that spot, saving it and holding it at shoulder height. Damn good job he did too, because Cavanaugh twisted her into his arms, so her feet arced across the bar right in front of August. He was on the verge of lodging a complaint when Cavanaugh kissed her.
Damn, it was good to see them.
It made him feel that everything was worth it, really worth it, and that he had made the right decision, because they were so happy together.
But it also triggered that strange cold feeling that had kept him awake at night for decades, that had bothered him since the day he had realised Eloise was Cavanaugh’s mate.
He would never have what they shared.
It was rare for his kind to find their fated ones, because they were always another snow leopard, and their numbers were low and their prides spread far and wide. Most snow leopards settled for falling for another of their kind and mating with them, but the bond they shared was nothing compared to the bond between fated mates.
A bond Cavanaugh and Eloise shared.
One that made him a little envious.
One he felt sure he would never find for himself.
