Review:

To Marry a Texas Outlaw by Linda Broday is the 3rd book in her Men of Legend series.  This book reads very well as a standalone, though it is best to read the earlier books to learn more about this wonderful family and the Legend men.  When I read my first book (Texas Plains) by Broday, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed that book, since I usually do not read westerns.  Now having loved To Marry a Texas Outlaw, I will be reading anything by Linda Broday, as she writes beautiful heartwarming stories, with wonderful characters.

In To Marry a Texas Outlaw, Luke Weston, our hero, is on the run, as he is trying to clear himself from a murder charge, which he did not commit.  Luke is also known as a famous gunslinger, and is always looking over his shoulder at those trying to kill him.  When he comes across a wagon, he sees a woman tied up and two men hurting her.  He comes to her rescue.

Josie Morgan, our heroine, at first thinks Luke is one of the men who kidnapped her, but she learns quickly that he was rescuing her.  When Luke tries to get information from her, she cannot remember anything, including her name; something which will be revealed in a short time. As Luke takes her to friends for protection, they both begin to feel an attraction to each other.  Josie is determined to find out who she is and why was she kidnapped?  She also learns about Luke, and believes in his innocence.  But both of them have issues that would stop them from acting on their feelings; Josie worries she might have done something bad, and Luke wouldn’t accept her.  Luke already feels his life is too dangerous for Josie or his family to be part of.  Two tough and determined people, who are falling in love….will they find a way to stay together.

What follows is an exhilarating and exciting adventure that will bring Luke’s family (Stoker (father), his brothers, Sam, Houston and their wives) into a large part of the story, at the Lone Star ranch.  They all try to convince Luke that he is part of the family no matter what, and they want to help him.  He is stubborn, determined to leave and keep them safe.  Josie & Luke will also bring to the family a young boy and his dog, who they saved from a abusive uncle, and he too will become part of the Legend household.  The last half of the book has them all fighting against hired gunslingers to save the father, and in turn save Luke.  Josie was a strong and tough heroine, who was able to rise above her kidnapping and memory loss and step fully into the battle to help them.  She will also open Luke’s heart to a possible future of love and family.   This was such a heartwarming and emotional story that has us unable to put the book down, and a fantastic ending.  Very well done by Broday.

What follows is a unique and wonderful story of two people, one on the run and the other having lost her memory, who  will find love for each other .   I loved when they got to the family ranch, and Luke’s family was great. I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed this heart wrenching story, and the wonderful characters Linda Broday has created.  If you enjoy heartwarming  western romance adventures, wonderful couples and  families; I  strongly suggest you read Linda Broday’s books.

excerpt

Lawmen surrounded the wagon and forced them to stop.

“Morning, gentlemen,” Luke drawled. “Mind getting out of our way?”

“We’re looking for a woman.” The old sheriff had a crooked nose that must’ve been broken countless times.

“The only one I’ve seen is—”

“Me. His wife,” Rose interrupted and gazed with what she hoped was adoration up at Luke. “Don’t be shy saying it, sweetheart. But it’s still sort of new, I reckon.” She cupped his jaw and turned to the riders. “You see, we were married two weeks ago and we’re on our honeymoon. My darling sugarplum promised to take me to Fort Worth.”

She pressed her lips to his in a long, searing kiss. He didn’t respond for a moment, then shock and thrilling tingles rippled over her as he kissed her back. When she parted her mouth, he slipped his tongue inside as bold as you please. His hand curled just under her breast and sent waves of aching hunger through her.

“Ahem,” one of lawmen said. “We need a word if you don’t mind.”

“Oh, dear sir, but we do mind,” she murmured against Luke’s mouth. “Very strenuously.”

“Damn, woman,” Luke whispered. “Aren’t you overdoing it?”

“Me?” she argued low. “What was the tongue for?”

“Added effect.” His eyes held a devilish gleam.

“Sorry, ma’am,” another of the posse tried. “Give us a quick word and we’ll be on our way.”

Luke raised his head. “My wife Rose is very…passionate. Why are you looking for this other woman?”

“She murdered her husband last night, mister.”

Rose gasped. “My heavens, how horrible. Did she shoot him?”

“Oh no, ma’am, nothing that tame,” said the lawman with the mole. “She gutted him.”

“Where did this take place?” Luke asked, nuzzling Rose’s neck.

“Doan’s Crossing.”

Rose stiffened in panic.

“Careful,” Luke whispered. “Just a little longer.”

“Do you know her name by chance?” Rose asked quietly.

“Josie. Josie Morgan,” the man answered. “From the description, she’s the spitting image of you, ma’am.”

She shivered even as Luke’s arm tightened around her. Could she have done something like that? Was she a murderess?

“If we happen to spot her, we’ll report it to the first lawman,” Luke promised. “Now, if you don’t mind, we have somewhere to be and my wife, bless her sweet soul, is a very impatient woman.” He winked at the posse. “You fellows remember what it was like to be newly married, don’t you?”

A murmur of agreement came from the group.

Rose glanced down and her heart pounded to see the duster had slipped, exposing a big portion of her bloody skirt. Slowly, so as not to draw the lawmen’s gaze, she tried to tug the shield back into place.

“Say, don’t I know you, mister?” One of the lawmen in the back, a younger man, moved forward, staring at Luke. “What’s your name?”

Rose held her breath as Luke’s hand inched slowly down toward his Colt. Desperate to draw the riders’ attention, she loosened the top buttons of her dress and moved the fabric aside. “My goodness, I’m so hot!” She touched her cheek with a fingertip and drew it painstakingly down the long column of her throat, past her collarbone and into her cleavage. The young lawman swallowed hard.

“Name’s Jones. I’m from Tascosa,” Luke drawled. “The town’s wild and woolly but it’s where I met my beautiful Rose and tied the knot.”

“I never thought I’d ever find such a handsome man to give me a second look.” Rose batted her eyelashes. “Ours is a match made in heaven.”

“I must be mistaken.” The young man turned aside, mumbling to himself.

The hawk-nosed marshal leaned over. “There’s a lot of blood on your dress, ma’am. What happened?”

Panic raced through Rose. “Blood? Oh, good heavens no!” She forced a giggle. “This is nothing but red mud. My mama always complained about the North Texas red dirt and was never able to get it to wash out of anything.”

The marshal’s white brow lifted in apparent skepticism.

Luke quietly added, “My wife likes to make love in the…uh, creek. It’s really embarrassing to talk about.”

She patted his vest. “Sweetheart, these men don’t have time to be gossiping like that! They simply have to find that Morgan woman before she kills again.”

The men shook their heads, chuckling, but one leaned forward for a better view.

“Sorry to have held you up.” The old sheriff touched the brim of his hat and the group galloped off, kicking up a cloud of dust around the wagon.

Luke jiggled the reins and the team began to move. “What the hell was that back there?”

Her spine stiffened. “What do you mean?”

“Attacking me like that.”

“Wait one minute. If I recall, you didn’t appear to object.”

“You enjoyed every second of that,” Luke accused.

“And you didn’t?”

Luke glanced back to check on the lawmen. “Where did that performance come from?”

“I noticed a spark of recognition in that young one’s eyes and I knew I had to save you. He was a step away from arresting you.” She thought he’d at least be grateful for her efforts.

“Don’t ever try to save me again.” Luke’s voice held a sharp edge. “I’ll only get you hurt—or dig you a grave.”

DEAL BREAKER (Billionaire Bosses #2) by Tara Leigh-a review

Deal Breaker

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release date November 14, 2017

Nixie Rowland is having a bad day. Rushing home to drown her sorrows in ice cream and reality television, she decides to take a shortcut to the subway where things take a turn for the worst. But Nixie’s bad luck doesn’t end there—the white knight who comes to her rescue is none other than the Dark Knight of Wall Street, a cocky Manhattan mogul whose ego barely fits inside his penthouse. To her horror, Nixie discovers the sizzling attraction between them is off the charts, and rising fast. Spending the night in his bed does nothing to lower the heat… And everything to set her heart on fire.

Nash Knight doesn’t have room in his life, or his heart, for anything beyond one-night stands or casual flings. And he certainly doesn’t make a habit of rescuing damsels in distress. Except that this particular damsel slips beneath his armor, the vulnerability she covers with a false show of bravado hitting him somewhere deep. Nixie is everything he never wanted… And exactly what he needs.

With Nixie on the run from a controlling ex, and Nash trying to salvage a business deal at risk because his conquests in the bedroom are overshadowing his wins in the boardroom, there’s one simple solution for them both: a marriage in name only. But when lust becomes love, will their untamed emotions be a deal breaker?

•••••••••••

REVIEW: DEAL BREAKER is the second instalment in Tara Leigh’s contemporary, adult BILLIONAIRE BOSSES erotic, romance series. This is thirty two year old billionaire, venture capitalist Nash Knight, and twenty four year old Nixie Rowland’s story line. DEAL BREAKER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Dash and Nixie) DEAL BREAKER follows the building relationship between billionaire venture capitalist Nash Knight, and Nixie Rowland, a young woman on the run whose past has caught up and wants revenge. Nash Knight is no knight in shining armor, and Nixie Rowland doesn’t want or need a protector but a fateful meeting in a dark alley finds Nixie the potential victim of an attempted rape, and Nash Knight will become her hero and guardian. What ensues is the building romance and love between Nixie and Nash, and the fall out when Nixie’s past demands more than she is willing to give,

Nixie Rowland knows heartbreak and loss; raised by her father’s former business partner following the death of her parents in 9/11, Nixie would fall in love with her foster-father’s son, a man whose demons are dark and addicting. On the run, in the hopes of evading the man who once stolen her heart, Nixie will reluctantly seek solace and help from the man known as the Dark Knight of Wall Street. Enter Nash Knight, a domineering, manwhoring, ruthless businessman who finds a kindred spirit in our story line heroine. Something about Nixie calls to his heart having lost his only brother a few years before. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a small cast of secondary and supporting characters including Nash’s right hand man Jay, his PA Katherine Simmons, and housekeeper Greta; Tristan and Reina (Penthouse Player #1), and Nash’s parents . We are also introduced to Nash’s sister in law Eva Knight and her children Madison and Parker, as well as Reina’s sister in law Celeste ; Nixie’s foster father Paul ‘Pappi Attwood, and Paul’s son and Nixie’s ex-boyfriend Derrick who is desperate to make amends with our story line heroine.

DEAL BREAKER begins with some amazing world building as we are in the mind of a man whose ruthless business transactions have built a reputation amongst those battling to keep afloat in a struggling economy but somewhere along the way the story line loses some of its’ momentum as we are witness to Nixie’s need to remain independent in the face of continuing threats and attacks; and a conflict resolution that fizzles with a questionable backstory-a backstory that if revealed earlier could have aided Nixie much sooner rather than later. There is a distinct lack of communication and honesty between several story line characters that adds fuel to an already simmering fire. The premise is intriguing; the characters are colorful and dynamic; the romance struggles with a lack of trust; a lack of communication; and a reluctant hero who has fallen for women struggling to move on from the past.

Wolf Leader/Wolf Hunter by Jane Godman – a Review

Wolf LeaderAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM

Description:
They are the Arctic Brotherhood.

They are deadly fighters, fierce protectors and loyal mates.

Their sworn enemy is dead, but the Arctic Brotherhood can’t relax. Fenrir, the Norse god of destruction is still determined to destroy the world. Vigo Durand agrees to lead the team against the most feared werewolf the world has ever known, but dark secrets from his past are threatening to catch up with him.

Amber Merova has been on the run for the last five years ago. When she meets Vigo, her werewolf mating impulse almost overwhelms her human instinct for survival. Almost. Feisty, determined, and hostile, Amber initially turns down Vigo’s offer to stay with the Brotherhood. When it looks like the men who murdered her pack have caught up with her, she has no choice but to take his offer of protection.

Both seem damaged beyond repair, but, as they work together to bring down Fenrir, they discover hidden ties that bind them together. Before they can look to the future, they must unravel the mysteries of the past.

Review:
Wolf Leader by Jane Godman is the 6th and final book of her The Arctic Brotherhood series.  When we last left off in Wolf Hunter, the evil Fenrir, was imprisoned, but the Arctic Brotherhood of the Midnight Sun team members were still very much in fear.  Fenrir, even chained, had the ability to mind control others to take over their body.  The Brotherhood knew they needed to kill Fenrir before he acted on his plan of destruction of the human race.  But a god can only be killed by another god; how can they find a way to stop Fenrir?

Vigo Durand, is our hero in Wolf Leader and he though respected, he is also a bit of a newbie; but it is his turn to lead this mission.  Vigo is also the only member of the 7 team Brotherhood who does not have a mate, nor is he interested in finding one.  Vigo meet Amber Merova, another Arctic werewolf, who keeps to herself.

Amber, our heroine, sees the brotherhood arrive and feels a strong pull.  She fights the attraction of one of the men coming off the plane, and ignores it.  When Vigo is told he is now in charge by Gunnar, he learns that the woman he saw earlier is now going to be added to the team.  She has a reputation as being tough and a loner, but she fits the Brotherhood requirements. Vigo goes to see her, and realizes that she is his mate.  They both try to fight off their sizzling attraction to no avail.  Once he forces Amber to meet his team, she slowly begins to accept the inevitable, and senses that being part of the Brotherhood, and helping save the world is something she truly wants.

What follows is an exciting adventure to stop Fenrir, which looks like an impossible task.  Just when you think things will work out, all hell breaks loose and Amber finds herself very much in danger.  I will not tell too much more, other than to say that Godman did a good job in bringing this series to a satisfactory conclusion.  I did like Vigo and Amber together, and they made a great team, as warriors and as a couple.

If you enjoy shifter stories, a fantasy world steeped in Norse Mythology, exciting action, and great characters you get to see throughout this series, you should be reading this fun series

Sebastian and Cindy succumb to the intensity of the attraction between them, but their lives are thrown into turmoil by a series of unexpected events. Before they can claim the happiness they have long denied themselves, they must face the evil mastermind determined to destroy the brotherhood.

Review:

Wolf Hunter by Jane Godman is the 5th book in her Arctic Brotherood series. I have enjoyed this series, as they are fun, exciting and quick reads. A brief refresher:  Arctic Brotherhood is a shifter series, with an ancient species of Arctic werewolves, who are part of the 7 members of the Brotherhood of the Midnight Sun.

In the last book, one of the members (Hendrik) of the Arctic Brotherhood was murdered, and the villain, Chastel has once again escaped.  Six months have passed, and Sebastian Novak, our hero, is determined to find Chastel before he kills again.  Sebastian goes to visit, Cindy Harper, our heroine, who was Hendrik’s friend (though everyone thought she was his lover).  Sebastian has always loved Cindy, knowing somehow she was his mate, but he did not follow up in deference to his friend, Hendrik.

In a short time, Sebastian will find out the truth about Cindy, and she will tell him that she has always had feelings for him.  A hot combustible romance begins that will change both of their lives forever.  But first they both need to survive the onslaught of two vicious and powerful evils. When Sebastian arrives, he is just in time to help a worried Cindy, who claims someone is following her. Sebastian can also feel the evil close by, and knows that Chastel is targeting Cindy.   The entire team will meet up to find a way to stop Chastel, and when an old friend comes back, the danger escalates threatening them all.   Rather than say too much more, the team will fight their toughest battle, facing not one, but two very powerful enemies.  It was wonderful to see our favorites back, as the  entire Arctic Brotherhood team is great; including the women or men that find their mates.  I really did love Sebastian and Cindy as a couple.

Wolf Hunter was an exciting adventure with nonstop action, edge of your seat suspense, and steamy sex scenes.   This is an excellent series, with Godman continuing this ongoing storyline smoothly in a wonderful fantasy world steeped in Norse Mythology. If you enjoy werewolves, action packed stories, suspense, exciting, adventure and great characters, then you should be reading this series.  They are quick and fun reads.

But his wolf says the wind calls them…from the mountains of North Carolina. What future can be built from this ruined world? What of adventure and exploration? Her wolf wants more too…does a male exist that’s strong enough to give them both the love and freedom they need?

Adventure and danger in a world just beginning to come back to life!

•••••••••

REVIEW: BLAEZ: The Reluctant Alpha is the second instalment in G.A. Hurst’s adult World of Shifters paranormal, dystopian romance series. This is alpha wolf shifters Blaez and Miranda’s story line. BLAEZ: The Reluctant Alpha can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

SOME BACKGROUND: Twenty years earlier, a catastrophic natural disaster destroyed most of mankind and the infrastructures where they lived and worked. As the few remaining people begin to emerge into the post-apocalyptic world, the shifters begin to realize that to live they will have to join together with their human counterparts in an effort to survive.

Told from several third person points of view including Blaez and Miranda BLAEZ: The Reluctant Alpha focuses on two struggling Packs of shifter wolves as they set out on a cross country journey in search of survivors, and the possibility of finding more of their kind. From opposite sides, the Packs and their human counterparts will meet reuniting families with missing loved ones, and the merging of a potential new Pack as Blaez will meet his fated mate-a woman who has starred in his fantasies and dreams. What ensues is the quick building, love and relationship between Blaez and Miranda, and the potential fall out when both Packs are pulled into a former government compound run and operated by a number of humans who have no knowledge of the supernatural existence- an existence that will be threatened by betrayal and revenge.

The relationship between Miranda and Blaez is one of insta-love. Both wolf-born shifters, our couple are aware of the shifter history, and the need and devotion to find the one that calls to their souls. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

BLAEZ has an extremely large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters from two shifter Packs, and the former government compound now housing over one hundred human survivors. Gage and Rissa (Heart of an Alpha #1), along with Rissa’s father Henry are reintroduced; there is a building relationship and possible new mating between wolf shifter Mercer, and human female Maxi.

BLAEZ is a slow building story line that struggles with telling rather than showing: as well as the propensity for redundancy and retelling of recent events. The story line bounces between two shifter Packs whose membership is large, and at times I found myself confused as to the who, what and where. Once the two Packs merged together there was more confusion as many of the shifters were related or friends-the problem, in my opinion, is too many characters thus leading to distraction and chaos throughout the story.

BLAEZ is an interesting and curious story line; a journey of discovery for fated mates whose lives will be enriched with their new found love- but – BLAEZ is also a story line that meanders in too many directions and got lost in the copious number of characters who appear in limited scenes for a singular or limited purpose. You may need a spread sheet to keep everyone in line. 😉

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 1, 2017

I’m a rockstar on the run from the memories of my past. And pussies in palaces.

Record scratch. Rewind.

My name is Hudson Wyatt, and I raced cars until an injury ended my career. Now I pound the skins in Hammered, a successful rock band. But I still enjoy living recklessly, hooking up and partying all night.

Lately, I’m wondering if I’m missing something deeper, and not just how far I can sink my—

Sorry, deleted. Anyway, it’s time for me to meet someone different.

Not someone who runs a cat café, though. I’m not a cat person. And I don’t pet felines for stress relief.

Other kinds of pussies, however…

Sexy, smart-mouthed vixen Piper Lockwood owns the Pussy Palace, and she has a heart made of cat fur and gold. She drives me nuts.

Until I get her naked, and find out Piper’s kind of crazy is all I need. Assuming this pussy can be tamed.

Or this rockstar.

••••••••

REVIEW: MANEUVERED is the fourth instalment in Cari Quinn & Taryn Elliott’s (Taryn Quinn) contemporary, adult HAMMERED erotic, romance, rock star series focusing on the men and women of the rock band Hammered. This is drummer and former Formula One driver Hudson Wyatt, and café and cattery owner Piper Lockwood’s story line. MANEUVERED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Maneuvered was originally released under the title Manster but due to publishing issues the authors changed the cover and title within days of release.

Told from dual first person perspective (Piper and Hudson) MANEUVERED follows the building relationship between Hammered drummer Hudson Wyatt, and café owner Piper Dawson. Hosting Callie and Owen Blackwell’s recent baby shower for the members of the rock band Hammered brought Piper Dawson face to face with their sexy and arrogant drummer Hudson Wyatt. Hudson Wyatt is Callie Blackwell’s best friend, and by default was expected to attend the baby shower festivities. Enter shower host, cattery owner and most-excellent coffee barista Piper Lockwood-the woman with whom Hudson would fall in love. What ensues is the growing romance between Piper and Hudson as Hudson ‘educates’ Piper on the art of seduction; and the potential fall out when Piper gives Hudson an ‘out’ to their unconventional relationship.

Piper does not consider herself a girlie-girl. Raised by her father Piper was more apt to wear jeans and a sweat shirt than get dressed up for a special occasion but something about Hammered drummer Hudson Wyatt calls to our heroine’s heart when she makes Hudson an offer he cannot refuse. Hudson’s immediate refusal hurts more than Piper thought, and in this, she will keep her any thoughts of a permanent relationship on hold. Hudson’s reputation as a manwhore and player precedes our hero’s introduction to our story line heroine, and his immediate rejection of Piper’s advances stings more than Piper could have imagined.

All of the previous story line couples and characters play secondary and supporting roles including Hunter and Kennedy (Manaconda #1), Faith and Quinn (Manhandled #2) Owen and Callie Blackwell (Manipulated #3), guitarist and bad boy Zach, as well as Piper’s business partner, friend and bakery owner Levi, and a very large assortment of cats and kittens.

The world building continue to focus on the band-their on going personal battles, in-fighting, paparazzi, and fans.

MANEUVERED is a laid back, playful story line of one woman’s education in the art of seduction, and one man’s education in the art of love. The premise is engaging, entertaining and lively; the romance is provocative and intense; the characters are dynamic, colorful and animated. MANEUVERED follows the birth of the next generation as Callie and Owen’s baby makes an appearance. For fans of the authors’ FOUND IN OBLIVION series, some of the events cross over and run parallel to events in MANEUVERED, and there may be some spoilers if you are not up to date with FIO.

The Devil of Dunakin Castle by Heather McCollum – a Review

The Devil of Dunakin Castle by Heather McCollum – a Review

The Devil of Dunakin CastleAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM

Description:
Englishwoman, Grace Ellington, has made a home in Scotland, but to escape from the meddling people around her who seem to think she needs to wed right away—because women need saving, right? —she volunteers to journey north to aid a friend in childbirth.

Keir MacKinnon, the younger brother of the MacKinnon clan chief, has been raised to strike fear in people, on and off the battlefield. Trained to uphold MacKinnon law, he has hardened into a lethal warrior. Caught in a Highland blizzard with the feisty Grace, Keir realizes the beautiful woman who saved him can also save his nephew’s life.

Sparks fly when he takes her against her will to his home, and Grace’s courage is put to the ultimate test. Is Keir MacKinnon the passionate, kind man she saved in the Highland blizzard, or is he truly the cruel executioner who seeks to solve all issues by the sword?

Each book in the Highland Isles series is a STANDALONE story that can be enjoyed out of order.
* The Beast of Aros Castle
* The Rogue of Islay Isle
* The Wolf of Kisimul Castle
* The Devil of Dunakin Castle

Review:

I’ve read and enjoyed the previous book “Wolf of Kisimul Castle.” So I was looking forward to reading The Devil of Dunakin Castle by Heather McCollum, and I wasn’t disappointed.  They are all standalone books, so don’t need to be read in order (but I may just have to go back and read the other two) 🙂

Grace is a feisty and independent woman (we meet her in book 1), she needs no man to complete her life (even though other people seem to want to marry her off). She goes to help her friend (Miari )to give birth. Along the way she meets “The Devil”,  Kier MacKinnon

People wear masks to hide their true selves and Kier is no exception, brought up from an early age, he was taught to be a warrior and then the sword hand of his brother, his job is to uphold the law (even if Keir doesn’t like it) he’s done things he hasn’t liked, and so it’s hardened this man into an unfeeling monster, but like beauty and the beast, the beast is tamed by beauty.

Kier has been told he needs to bring back a great healer Miari (from book 3) to help his ill nephew, but gets caught in a storm and ends up rescuing a woman from wolves.

The feelings that both Grace and Kier feel for each other are soon over shadowed when he realizes that he can’t take the pregnant Miari, but Grace could save his nephew, and with that, he takes her against her will to the castle. It doesn’t go down well with Grace

Once Grace helps the clan, other things start to happen and she wonders if the illness wasn’t an illness!

As with the previous book, Heather McCollum brings the characters to life. The scenes were very well written and I could imagine myself easily in Scotland .

The only thing that stands in the way of my revenge is her.

The lying scheming daughter of the man who killed my parents. She has the secrets I need to bring down her father.

And I’ll do anything to get them. I will lie to her. Steal from her. Use her.
Ruin her.

It helps that our chemistry is explosive.

What I’m not expecting is for her to be so sweet. And so strong.

So…irresistible.

Penny

After so many years of lying and hiding, I finally have a place to call home. With people I can call a family. The Paintbrush Inn is my life now, and I won’t let anyone ruin it.

When sexy and world-weary Simon checks in to the Inn, I never expect him to glance my way. I’ve spent my whole life blending into the background. Being overlooked and ignored. It’s been helpful, even though it’s lonely. And he’s way out of my league.

But our attraction is powerful. Undeniable.

Dangerous.

Because I can’t let anyone close. If the secrets I keep were to be revealed, my whole life would be destroyed. But something about Simon makes me break all my own rules. I’m letting him in to my home, my body, my life, never expecting he has his own secrets.

His own lies.

When the truth comes out, we’ll both be ruined.

REVIEW: RUIN YOU is the third full-length instalment in Molly O’Keefe’s contemporary, adult THE DEBT dark, romance series focusing on a group of former teens thrown together in the foster/ juvenile system of San Francisco, California (more specifically the St. Jude’s Home for Court Place Juveniles) -Tommy, Beth, Simon, Rosa and Carissa. This is journalist Simon Malik, and chef Penny McConnell’s story line. RUIN YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary with the inclusion of a prologue that reveals some of the background and events leading to the debt owed by Tommy, Simon and Carissa to the mysterious Mr. Bates.

There is a FREE short story prologue available -THE DEBT. The same short story prologue is also contained at the beginning of Tommy and Beth’s story-Lost Without You.

NOTE: RUIN YOU, like book one-Lost Without You- begins seven to eight years earlier in which we are witness to the horrific acts of violence perpetrated on five young souls who will be beaten and broken for any number of offenses deemed inappropriate or wrong. The introduction reveals five ‘young offenders’ destroyed by a sexually and physically abusive foster family, only to discover that freedom came at a cost- all debts must be repaid; anytime, anywhere, without question or fail.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Simon and Penny) RUIN YOU begins eight years earlier as the reader is given a glimpse into Simon’s past and his first encounter with our story line heroine: the events leading to his incarceration in the juvenile offender’s system, and the fall out when Simon and his best friend Tommy (LOST WITHOUT YOU) took measures to ensure their foster family was no longer a threat to their safety and health. Fast forward to present day wherein Simon’s debt-the cost of his freedom-must be repaid. Enter Penny McConnell aka Tina Andreas, Simon’s target and the woman with whom our hero will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Penny and Simon, and the fall out when Tina’s (Penny) father discovers the whereabouts of his long, lost daughter, and the truth about Simon’s mission is finally revealed.

RUIN YOU is a story of second chances; of lies and betrayal; of romance and love. Penny McConnell is not who she professes to be but neither is Simon Malik who sets out to seduce the woman who may or may not have access to the information he so desperately wants. The relationship between Simon and Penny is one of immediate attraction and insta-lust but our heroine knows that to get involved would mean having to reveal the real person behind her professional façade. Simon’s undercover assignment follows a two-step plan in which retribution and revenge are a by-product of a debt repaid. The $ex scenes are limited but intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

RUIN YOU is a slow paced story; a sweet burn romance;with a conflict resolution that was over too quickly. Tommy and Beth (Lost Without You) make a cameo appearance, as well as the mysterious Mr. Bates, Carissa, Penny’s business partner Megan, and Tina’s father Dale Simpson. I suspect there is some history between Carissa and Bates; we learn a little more about Mr. Bates’ connection to the group home survivors. Rosa’s whereabouts have finally been uncovered, and our story line hero is about to embark on a mission to find their missing friend. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the characters are charismatic and determined; the romance is fated and captivating.

ALL DEBTS MUST BE PAID

Tommy

Seven years ago, I thought I could save Beth, the girl I loved from the monster who was supposed to take care of us. I thought I could keep Beth and all the other kids at St. Jude’s Home for Court Placed Juveniles safe.

I failed. Badly. Now we all have blood on our hands and owe a dangerous man a very dangerous debt. We don’t know when he’ll come calling for payment, but when he does – we pay, or we suffer.

When my turn comes, I’m ready for anything.

Except seeing Beth again.

LOVE IS NEVER FREE

Beth

No one ever tells you that the cost of having your dreams come true is literally every single other part of your life. Yes, I’m a huge pop star these days, but I’m pretty much a mess, too.

I’ve spent my life hiding behind disguises, make-up and costumes, all to protect myself from the kind of pain that comes from revealing your true self to someone.

I did that once. With Tommy. The only person I ever loved. It didn’t turn out so well.

And now, with everything else falling apart around me, I’m suddenly in the backseat of his car.

Being kidnapped.

And the past we’ve both tried to run from is catching up with us.

Contains The Debt: A Prologue and 50,000 more words in the continuation of Tommy and Beth’s story

REVIEW: LOST WITHOUT YOU is the first full length instalment in Molly O’Keefe’s contemporary, new adult THE DEBT dark, romance series focusing on a former group of teens thrown together in the foster/ juvenile system of San Francisco, California (more specifically the St. Jude’s Home for Court Place Juveniles) -Tommy, Beth, Simon, Rosa and Carissa. LOST WITHOUT YOU is twenty four year old Tommy MacNeill, and twenty three year old Beth Renshaw’s story line. I have not had the opportunity to read the conclusion to their story WHERE I BELONG but I am hoping to rectify that very shortly.

NOTE: There is a FREE short story prologue available -THE DEBT -that reveals some of the background and events leading to the debt owed by Tommy, Simon and Carissa. The same short story prologue is also contained at the beginning of Tommy and Beth’s story-Lost Without You.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Tommy and Beth) LOST WITHOUT YOU begins seven years earlier in which we are witness to the horrific acts of violence perpetrated on five young souls who will be beaten and broken for any number of offenses deemed inappropriate or wrong. LOST WITHOUT YOU focuses on the fall out of a corrupt juvenile system that saw five ‘young offenders’ destroyed by a sexually and physically abusive foster family, only to discover that freedom came at a cost- all debts must be repaid; anytime, anywhere, without question or fail.

Fast forward to present day and Tommy MacNeill’s contracted debt has been called into fruition, and his assignment will bring him face to face with his past. Enter pop sensation Jada, the young girl formerly known as Beth Renshaw, and the woman Tommy has always loved. What ensues is the rekindling relationship and romance between Tommy and Beth, and the fall out when Tommy is unable to pay off his seven year debt.

LOST WITHOUT YOU is a somewhat dark and edgy story of heartbreak, betrayal, abuse and regret. Five teens caught in the system with no chance of parole until a mysterious and dangerous stranger, Mr. Bates, offers freedom for a price. All debts must be repaid, and Tommy’s debt has been called placing our hero in the line of fire. The premise is engaging and angst-ridden; the characters are broken and battle-weary; the romance is passionate but lacked the heat factor of many of today’s dark romance novels-perhaps the events of the past interfered in their ability to let go and enjoy their few remaining moments together.

LOST WITHOU YOU ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

About The Author beige

Molly O’Keefe has always known she wanted to be a writer (except when she wanted to be a florist or a chef and the brief period of time when she considered being a cowgirl). And once she got her hands on some romances, she knew exactly what she wanted to write.

She published her first Harlequin romance at age 25 and hasn’t looked back. She loves exploring every character’s road towards happily ever after.

Originally from a small town outside of Chicago, she went to university in St. Louis where she met and fell in love with the editor of her school newspaper. They followed each other around the world for several years and finally got married and settled down in Toronto, Ontario. They welcomed their son into their family in 2006, and their daughter in 2008. When she’s not at the park or cleaning up the toy room, Molly is working hard on her next novel, trying to exercise, stalking Tina Fey on the internet and dreaming of the day she can finish a cup of coffee without interruption.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 9, 2017-11-04
Zane Gilford has lived a blessed life. The only son of the owner of The Gilford House Inn, he’s benefitted from his mother’s extraordinary success. But Vermont was never where he wanted to be, and the day after graduation, he put the quaint country inn and everything about it behind him and never looked back.

Until now.

The death of his mother left Zane a very wealthy man, but in her will she also left him a surprise. For an entire year, he must run that Vermont inn he’s hated all his life if he wants to get one red cent of his inheritance.

Becca Fox has worked her way to the top of the advertising business and has the personal and professional scars to prove it. In her rare time off, she loves visiting her favorite bed and breakfast in the mountains of Vermont. When she finds a new owner running The Gilford House Inn, she wonders if her favorite getaway place has been ruined for her. He’s sexy as all hell and incredibly good looking, but he’s so cocky and arrogant.

From the first moment he sees her, Zane knows he wants Becca, but to get a woman like her, he’s going to have to learn to be a better man than he’s ever been. He’s got an inn to run and a woman to win. Neither is going to be easy. And time isn’t in his favor.

REVIEW: HARD WORK by K. M. Scott is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, erotic romance story line focusing on a second chance romance between thirty year old advertising executive and divorcee Becca Fox, and Vermont Inn owner Zane Gilford.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Becca and Zane) HARD WORK follows the rekindling romance between advertising executive Becca Fox, and Zane Gilford-a man whose California lifestyle is about to change. With the recent death of his mother, Zane Gilford would inherit everything she was and owned including her beloved Vermont Inn she christened The Gilford House Inn but a caveat and proviso was added to the will- a stipulation forces Zane to run the Inn successfully for one year or forfeit the entire fortune. Enter Becca Fox, a Manhattan advertising executive and the woman with whom Zane would fall in love, but a woman scorned by her previous relationships including the one with our story line hero. What ensues is the rebuilding romance between Zane and Becca, and the on going fall out as Zane continues to prove that he has yet to grow up or take responsibility for his immature actions.

Years earlier Zane Gilford walked out of Becca’s life without a backwards glance leaving our heroine heartbroken and stunned as to the how and why. Fast forward to present day wherein Zane commissions Becca to help promote his mother’s Inn, a task that is meant to pull Becca back into his life….but Zane and Becca’s reintroduction is less than amicable as Becca witnesses the wrath of a man accustomed to getting his own way. Zane grew up the spoiled and only child of a wealthy business owner, and in the ensuing years has never learned to appreciate his mother’s ability to manage and love.

The relationship between Becca and Zane is one of second chances but Zane’s cringe-worthy, immature attitude, and emotional outbursts directed at staff fills our heroine with disgust and revulsion towards the man she once loved. As months pass, and their relationship is taken to a sexual level Zane will continue to destroy Becca’s faith in a possible future with our story line hero, with his over the top reactions, and the reappearance of a former love. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense.  The use of a certain four-letter word that I have previously deemed repugnant and ill-used in a romance story line is unnecessary and undesirable.

We are introduced to Becca’s friend and PA Amy; as well as several employees at The Gilford House Inn who struggle to keep their new boss happy and pleased.

HARD WORK is an easy read (ala Beauty and the Beast) that skips weeks to months at a time where in the interim Becca and Zane’s relationship continues to grow. The premise is entertaining and captivating; the romance is provocative and seductive; the characters are charismatic, colorful and energetic once you get past Zane’s adolescent behaviour and emotional outbursts. HARD WORK is a stand alone, erotic story line that calls to the romance lover in everyone.
