Description:
The Gift of the Magi…in Atlantis

Warrior-turned-pirate Dare is the black sheep of all Atlantis. He’s enraged Poseidon, the sea god, so much that he had to forfeit his ship and the water spirit who inhabits it. For Dare, being denied the ocean is worse than death. Until he meets a woman who drowns him in waves of hunger more powerful than the sea.

After the accident that killed her parents and blinded her, Lyric discovered she had a special gift—that of song sight. She now sees the world in her own unique way, and is able to discover the rarest of artifacts. One, containing a single Wish, could make all her dreams come true. Or it could deliver to Dare—the man she’s falling in love with—the thing he most desires.

It’s the season of miracles in Atlantis. A chance to make wishes come true . . .

But whose wish?

Review:

Christmas in Atlantis by Alyssa Day is part of her new Poseidon’s Warriors series, in which she will be doing a book in every month of 2018.  We can look forward to more fun in Atlantis with some of our favorites from the past (Warriors of Poseidon).  Christmas in Atlantis was a fun quick paranormal romance that you can enjoy and finish in one sitting.

We meet our hero, Dare, on his ship as they are trying to survive a terrible storm. Dare and his water spirit, Seranth do everything they can to save the crew, as well as asking the Sea God, Poseidon for help.  But when Dare goes overboard, he calls for the Atlantis portal to escape.

Lyric Fielding is our heroine, who is blind and a famous painter; she is also a gem singer.   Lyric has been dating Dare for 5 years, and knows that she has fallen in love with him.  She has been anxiously waiting almost a year for him to return home from his trip, and plans to approach him about her feelings.

Dare ends up at Lyric’s house all wet, and feverish.  Lyric takes care of him, and during his feverish ramblings, he professes his love.  What follows is a sweet romance, with a wonderful couple, especially Lyric, who was a fun and brave heroine.  Dare will bring Lyric to Atlantis, fulfilling a dream for her and it is there that the fun begins for us when we see most of our favorites from Atlantis.  Lyric was in her glory being in Atlantis, and meeting Queen Riley and the others, who welcomes her openly.  Dare was beside himself when he learns that Poseidon was taking away his ship and his water spirit.  Will Lyric and Dare stay together?  Will Dare find a way to get his beloved ship back?

Being a huge fan of Warriors of Poseidon, I was thrilled that Alyssa would be bringing us back to Atlantis. Christmas in Atlantis was a fun read, with a heroine that was so likable; a romance that was heartwarming, filled with love and sacrifice, as well as enjoying the wonderful secondary characters.  If you enjoy a sweet pure romance, some excitement and a great couple, I suggest you read Christmas in Atlantis. Thank you Alyssa for bringing us back home to Atlantis.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 19, 2017

As the eldest of the Davis clan, Clayton has always tried to lead by example. Along with taking his job as head of the family business seriously, he is also determined to keep his brother and sister in line. Clay is known for being serious, silent, and stoic—completely in control of his life. And with the way he grew up, coupled with a disastrous end to the last relationship he was in, he’s just fine with his quiet, solitary life.

What he hadn’t counted on was Caroline Michaels. She’s the proverbial woman next door—the town next door, that is. Caroline hasn’t lived an easy life, but after escaping from an abusive relationship, she’s finally living for herself and no one else. The last thing the quirky, shy bookstore owner expected was a steamy one-night stand with Clay Davis.

When Caroline and Clay meet, the connection is instant, both falling into one heated night of passion before parting ways—both driven by their own reasons to deny what they clearly wish didn’t have to end. It isn’t until Caroline falls on hard times and Clay comes back into the picture that they realize just how impossible it will be to stay away from each other.

Will Clay be able to give up his rootless existence in favor of finally settling down? And, more important, will Caroline want him to?

REVIEW: COWBOY UP is the third (and final?) instalment in Harper Sloan’s contemporary, adult COMING HOME erotic, romance series focusing on the Davis siblings- Clayton, Maverick and Quinn Davis. This is thirty six year old rancher and eldest sibling Clayton Davis, and thirty year old book store owner Caroline Michaels’ story line. COWBOY UP can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Clayton and Caroline) COWBOY UP follows the building relationship between Clayton Davis, and Caroline Michaels. A one-night stand between strangers had our leading couple fantasizing about that night two months earlier only to discover that Clayton Davis was Caroline Michaels’ one-time, best friend’s oldest brother, and the high school crush she apparently forgot. After an invitation to Quinn Davis’ baby shower, our heroine will come face to face with the man with whom she will fall in love. Enter Clayton Davis, rancher and eldest Davis Sibling. What ensues is the building romance between Clayton and Caroline, and the potential fall out as both of their pasts collide in a game of jealous revenge.

Caroline Michaels left the town of Pine Oak, Texas immediately after high school to escape the gossip mills and rumors, and the mother who made her entire life a living h*ll. Her return to Wire Creek, Texas to open up her dream bookstore comes with ambivalence and a yearning to be free of the past-a past that almost destroyed our heroine’s life. Clayton Davis doesn’t do relationships in light of heartbreaking childhood and the fractured family dynamics of the Davis clan, as well as the bitter memories of a woman who continues to demand and push Clayton into a second chance.

The relationship between Caroline and Clayton is one of immediate attraction; a one –night stand that turns into something more when Caroline and Clayton bond over past betrayal, broken hearts and parental rejection. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

All of the previous story line couples play secondary and supporting characters including Maverick and Leighton (Lost Rider #1), and Quinn and Tate (Kiss My Boots #2). We are introduced to Caroline’s best friends and bar owners Luke Hazel, and his twin sister Lucy, as well as Caroline’s ex John Lewis; her mother Misty Michaels; and Clayton’s ex Jess.

The world building continues to focus on the Davis family-their growing love and support for one another, once destroyed by the very people meant to bring happiness and peace. There are two epilogues that fast forward the story line approximately one year, and another that looks fifteen years into the future.

COWBOY UP is a story of family and friendship; romance and love; betrayal, jealousy, revenge and obsession. The premise is heart warming and tearful; the characters are colorful, charismatic and welcome; the romance is passionate and seductive. COWBOY UP is an amazing tale about two people, one family and the struggle to move forward from demons of the past.

I push my hands from his shoulders and palm his jaw as his stubble prickles against my fingers while my hands wander up to his hair. His hat falls to the ground with a thud and I know he’s just as lost in me as I am in him, because he doesn’t even make a move to pick it up. He lets out a deep grunt when I mold myself against his body, seeking some sort of friction. The next thing I know, my back is against the door and he’s gripping my bottom. His mouth hits my jaw with a bite of his teeth, making a squeak of pleasure shoot up my throat, and his deep rumble of laughter reaches my ears as he presses me harder into the door with his hips. The heavy bulge of his erection against that spot makes me so desperate for him that I whimper in relief when his mouth finally closes over mine in a wet tangle of tongues.
I’ve never been kissed so thoroughly.
This is the kind of kiss that sets the bar for any that might follow.
The kind that shows you everything you’ve been missing and everything you never knew you wanted. I’m going to be comparing every kiss I ever have to my dark cowboy’s, even though I know there’s a good chance no one will ever compare. The sounds coming from my mouth, the ones being swallowed by his, are nothing short of needy. My hips move in tandem with the thrusts of his, and even though we’re both fully clothed, I know it won’t take much more of this for me to go off like the town’s fireworks on the Fourth of July.
“Fuck, you taste just like apple pie,” he whispers against my lips, breaking away with a gasp.
“Huh?”
“Goddamn, I love apple pie,” he says before his mouth is back on mine, this time with a whole new kind of hunger deepening his kisses.
I’m held captive, enraptured. Then his hands move from my bottom to glide up my torso. He lifts his hard chest off mine and suddenly those delicious fingers are at my breasts. Even if I had big boobs his hands would dwarf them, I’m sure, but as it is he covers both with a firm grasp before adjusting his hold with a deft twist of the wrists. His mouth continues to feast on mine while his huge hands learn my body with slow movements. I tear my mouth from his with a breathy moan when he pushes my shirt up and slips his fingers into the cups of my bra to tweak my nipples.
“Oh, God,” I moan when he does it again.
“I can’t get enough of you,” he rumbles.
“Please,” I beg, not with the slightest clue as to what I’m begging for.
His hips dig even harder into mine as he leans back, supporting me against the door with that connection alone as he pulls my shirt off. The darkness makes me feel more confident than I normally would be, almost half naked with a man—no, a stranger.
“Yours too,” I tell him as his fingers move to unclasp my bra. “I want to feel your skin on mine,” I breathe, taking over the task so he’ll hopefully give me what I want.
I fumble in my haste to feel more of this dangerous arousal he’s creating in my body, but the second my bra is free and dangling toward the floor, his naked chest collides against mine, pushing me into the door with a force that sends the air rushing out of my lungs.
His mouth hits my collarbone at the same time his hands grasp my bottom, sliding me up the door until I feel the wet heat of his breath against my breast.
Then he stops.

REVIEW: IT MUST’VE BEEN THE MISTLETOE by L.P.Dover is a stand alone, contemporary/ time travel/historical clean, paranormal romance story line that follows thirty year-old high school history teacher Adeline Hamilton as she ventures between the present and the past in search of her happily ever after. With her best friend’s Christmas wedding only days away Adeline struggles as the lone single female amongst her tight knit group of friends until a Christmas ‘angel’ beckons Adeline into the past, 1865 to be exact, where she will meet her future and the man who will steal her heart. Enter thirty three year-old, real estate billionaire William Blair, the groom’s brother, whose own journey to 1865 finds our hero falling in love with a woman he will soon forget. What ensues is the quick building romance between our leading couple that will span hundreds of years culminating in not one but two declarations of love, in this life and the last.

IT MUST’VE BEEN THE MISTLETOE is a sweet story; a clean romance involving magical mistletoe, a fairy godmother-like Christmas angel, time-travel dreaming, and a happily ever after. The premise is endearing; the characters are perfect and charming; the romance is cloyingly sweet, almost toothache inducing but, never the less, enjoyable and sentimental.

She has a different future in mind—with a sometimes charming, sometimes difficult and arrogant wounded Highlander.

Will They Put Love Before Duty?
For Mary, Cameron has become the man whose every smile has the power to bring her to her knees. But he is as duty-bound as she is, and responsibility calls him back to Sutherland, where she fears he will stay, forgetting her and all they’ve shared. With another powerful clan’s interests at stake, Cameron’s return sets events in motion that will have life-changing consequences for the woman he can’t forget.

REVIEW: His Highland Bride is a romantic adventure novel by Willa Blair. This is book three of His Highland Heart Series. It’s a wonderful look at the continuing storyline and characters in this saga.

This is a continuation of author Willa Blair’s period type novel series, this one is also set in the Scottish Highlands in 1411. It’s a good look at the period’s customs and clans, which adds to the appeal.

We’re taken back to the home of Mary Elizabeth Rose, the eldest daughter of James Rose, Laird of the Rose clan.

Previously, her sisters had run off and married into the clan of Brodie, leaving her at home with their widowed father and caring for Cameron Sutherland. Cameron had helped escort her sister home last summer and was wounded by an Irish gallowglass mercenary while only two days out from delivering her sister safely.

This is story of Cameron and Mary. It’s a tender and yet frustrating tale of building love with both parties afraid to admit their feelings to each other. It’s also a story of a stubborn father that doesn’t want his last daughter to leave him.
Author Blair has added wonderful intrigue, treachery, and betrayal to Mary’s story.

I found myself falling in love with Cameron Sutherland. A past flirt and more, he’s finally grown up and his heart has given itself to Mary. However, the road to happiness is a long and arduous one, filled with mystery, and danger. Is Cameron up to the task? Grab a copy of this wonderfully written book to find out!

A Perilous Passion by Elizabeth Keysian – a Review

Perilous PassionAmazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Miss Charlotte Allston is unwittingly ensnared in a sinister web of traitors and spies when she is literally swept off her feet by a handsome stranger on the beach. Fiercely determined to redeem his honor after a humiliating military defeat, the Earl of Beckport is living incognito, hunting a band of smugglers at the center of a French plot to invade England.

The enigmatic Miss Allston instantly becomes a person of interest to the earl…and not just in the smuggling case. Passion flares swift and hot between the two. But when her attempts to help with his secret mission only endanger it, he must question where her loyalty truly lies.

Stunned by the sudden revelation that the woman he is falling for is the daughter of a notorious smuggler, Beckport feels duty-bound to report her. But then Charlotte is captured by the very traitor he’s after, forcing the earl to decide between redemption…and love.

Review:

A Perilous Passion by Elizabeth Keysian begins with Charlotte Allston walking along the shore one minute and being plucked from her feet in the next.  Seems a stranger who observed her on the beach thought she was in need of assistance, even though she was perfectly fine.  After they part ways, it doesn’t take Charlotte long to wonder just what the handsome stranger is up to.  The next day, she heads out to snoop around to see if she can find out just who he is, only to find herself swept up in another encounter with said stranger, whose name is Rafe “Seabourne”.  He insists on escorting Charlotte home, even though she tells him repeatedly it’s not necessary.

Once they arrive at her home, he introduces himself to Charlotte’s overbearing mother.  Her mother almost immediately knows Rafe’s true identity: Rafe Pomeroy, the Earl of Beckport.  He tries to deny it, but fails miserably.  Rafe finally comes clean about who he is, but insists they must keep his identity a secret.  What follows is a story of espionage and danger where Charlotte insists she help Rafe with his secret mission, which often lands them in trouble.

A Perilous Passion has a good plot.  Charlotte’s character was nicely written.  I liked her tenacity and her loyalty.  Rafe was nicely written as well, even though, I have to admit, the back story of why he was trying to redeem himself made me laugh a little.  However, I did feel that their chemistry was a little lacking and the story was a bit slow in places.  With that said, this was an enjoyable read.   Rafe’s sense of honor and Charlotte’s tenacity kept me turning the pages.  The humor was also a plus.  If you’re a fan of this genre, you’ll  enjoy the book as well.

Description:
When medium Karly Matthews agrees to move into a haunted inn, she’s not sure what’s more dangerous, the ghost or the sexy innkeeper she tries to resist. She can’t deny the intense rush of desire she feels every time he’s near. When she agrees to embark on a no-strings-attached relationship, she finds herself thrust into a world of mind-blowing pleasures. Now she must face the aching truths of her past.

Hotel heir Thayne Harper has a laser-like focus on success that doesn’t include the help of his family. He’s always been the black sheep, living in the shadow of his dead brother. His dreams are put to the test when a supernatural entity threatens to ruin everything. The one bright spot is the woman who intrigues his mind and heats his blood. If only he can convince her that, despite his bad-boy ways, he can change for the good. Her love becomes his only salvation. Passion burns white-hot as a dark threat looms. The ghost doesn’t want them to be together and sets her sights on Thayne, luring him to a place that goes beyond death. Will Karly be able to save him before it’s too late?

Review:

A would-be one night stand that wasn’t. When that ship sails, it’s delicious fun to face each another anew in the most surprising of settings: employer and employee. Karly is a medium hired to clear Thayne’s ghost-laden hotel before opening night. Given their attraction, stronger than ever for proximity, never mind delayed gratification, who exactly is making those sounds that go bump in the night? Haunted by Shari Nichols explores supernatural events with hair-raising details and a red-hot love story.

“Well, this certainly complicates matters.” There was an edge to his voice. “Only if we let it.” And she wouldn’t, because she had no intention of seeing him again outside of these four walls. Rule number one: never, ever cross professional boundaries. Rule number two: constantly remind yourself of rule number one, especially if the client is hot as sin.”

Karly does all the preliminary work to ascertain the presence of ghosts, but when the sexual tension rises, and the haunting stems from a singular spectre, Karly aims full throttle to banish the ghost…and leave her unsatisfied fantasies behind. In her haste to remove herself from the temptation of Thayne, Karly aggravates the spirit, yeah, it went nowhere, and is forced to up her game. While this menacing ghost can doom his hotelier venture, it also ensures Karly remains on the premises…and face her avoidance issues with Thayne. Game on, indeed.

I enjoyed Haunted. There is ghost hunting and hotel business, but love is the central story. Ghosts and vengeance (human and inhuman alike!) spook and strike and generally vie for attention, but Thayne and Karly are haunted by each other. They navigate past insta-love pretty quickly, trusting that this feels too right to be superficial. It’s when things turn tempestuous that we witness our H/H build, and topple, their relationship. This tenacity to survive, to drive past hard lines, is what maintains their desire to fight another day.

Haunted is a sexy ghost story sure to keep you up well into the night.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 31, 2017

In Vanessa Kelly’s enchanting series, three young women descended from royalty overcome their scandalous beginnings to win the hearts of the ton’s most eligible men . . .

The illegitimate daughter of the Prince Regent might be expected to pursue various dubious professions. Actress, perhaps, or artist’s model. Even courtesan. Victoria Knight, however, has become a governess—a respectable choice, until she travels to Scotland to meet her new charges. The younger brothers of Nicholas Kendrick, Earl of Arnprior, aren’t children at all. They’re brawny, wild Highland men. As for the Earl, he’s handsome, guarded, and far too compelling . . . especially for a woman hiding a dark secret.

Nick needs a proper teacher to transform his unmarriageable brothers—and a sensible,
straight-laced wife for himself. Miss Knight seems to fit the bill on both counts. But he soon discovers there is more to Victoria than he thought. It’s not just her notorious origins, or the danger that’s followed her all the way to Scotland. It’s the fiery loyalty beneath that sedate façade. This, the real Victoria, is the woman Nick is starting to desire so desperately. And what an earl wants, he’ll use every seductive means to get . . .

REVIEW: 5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

OH MY WORD! Love it when big bad highlanders get a little proper English and make it their own! I absolutely loved this book and I am so hoping that another series comes out of this one. I can see where it would!

The Highlander’s Princess Bride is the third book in Vanessa Kelly “The Improper Princesses” and you do not need to read the first two to appreciate this book but please pick them up and immerse yourself into this world Vanessa creates. This series is also a spin off the another series called “The Renegade Royals”. A historical romance set in the regency era, it certainly takes us out of the ballrooms and gives us a fantastic dose of highlander and all they entice in us romantic readers.

Victoria Knight is the illegitimate daughter of the Prince Regent and a barmaid, and while she is the shame of her mother’s family, she has made an executive decision to not be anything like her mother and her free ways. Through hard work and determination, Victoria works hard and becomes a respectable governess that is considered to be strict but fair. She is disciplined, has a good head on her shoulders, has a knack for dealing with humourous pranksters, and an uncanny ability to sneak into the sternness of hearts. She makes one bad decision however and finds herself in very hot water. Having to flee her secret, she finds employment in the Highlands by becoming the governess of several grown Highlander men and a jackass grandfather who all need a swift kick in their ignorant ways. Victoria is about to get a real lesson herself though, when she finds herself slowly coming to adore these pains in her butt, and fall in love with the man who hired her on.

Nicholas Kendrick, Earl of Arnprior is my ideal book boyfriend. He is the head of his unruly family and fed up with the nonsense they create. He is handsome, strong willed and holds a few secrets close to his chest. When he hires Victoria he is taken aback at her methods to tame his brothers and a deep seated respect and loyalty begin to set in. He falls in love with her, but he also knows she is guarding secrets close to her heart, and wants her to trust him enough to let him help and protect her. Even if that needs to occur at her pace.

I ADORED the laughter I experienced reading this book. So very well matched, these two leads had quite the journey to get their HEA, but what a journey that was. I love how fierce and protective the men became of Victoria (especially when trouble comes knocking) and I love that she became protective of them. She truely blended into this family despite the harsh start they all had. I even didn’t mind the Grandpa Dearest who was a douche for a good chunk of the book, but I will admit there were times I was thinking “Enough already jerkface!” LOL

A very strong historical romance from Vanessa and I am going to make an effort to check out her previous books because I really enjoyed her writing that much. If you are looking for a chuckle this holiday season, love your Highlanders err.. difficult but so irresistible, and a woman who is not afraid to put them in their place then by all means do check this book out. I for one am really hoping that these brothers are another spin off series.

HAPPY READING! 🙂

EXCERPT 1: Lord Arnprior explains what he expects from his new governess, Victoria Knight.
“What I wish you to do is remind my brothers what those standards are. They were raised as gentlemen, but certain events have caused them to forget themselves. A refresher course is required.”
“And what would such a course entail?” She cast a disapproving glance at his brothers. “Beyond the obvious.”
Nick shrugged. “The usual one—how to engage in polite conversation with young ladies, how to conduct oneself appropriately at a dinner party, how to dance—”
“They already know how to dance,” barked Angus.
“Just reels, Grandda,” Grant said. “Oh, and the sword dance. But I don’t think many girls know that one.”
Alec choked, trying not to laugh. When Nick shot him a glare, his friend simply gave him a bland smile.
“And it would be fun to learn how to waltz,” Graeme said, suggestively waggling his eyebrows at Miss Knight.
“Ye wish to be caperin’ about like dandies?” Angus growled.
Miss Knight seemed to shake herself free of some sort of mental paralysis. “I am not a dancing teacher, my lord. I’m an educator.”
“For God’s sake, Arnprior,” Alec said. “Why don’t you simply hire a dancing master? Surely he could help the lads with those other”—he waved a vague hand—“social things.”
“I tried that. It didn’t work.” The horrific experiment of a few months ago remained vivid in his memory. The dancing master had barely survived the week.
“Bloody caper merchant,” Angus muttered.
“Let me see if I understand you correctly, my lord,” Miss Knight said. “You wish me to tutor your youngest brother. As well, I am to train your older brothers to be accomplished, well-mannered gentlemen for the purpose of putting them out on the marriage mart. And I am to do that without the help of other instructors who specialize in such matters.”
Nick met her irate gaze with an approving smile. “That sums it up nicely, I think.”
“Would you also like me to teach them fencing and boxing?” she asked sarcastically.
“Oh, we already know how to do those,” Grant piped up.
“Good God,” Royal said, shaking his head. “This is a complete joke.”
“I am forced to agree with your brother, Lord Arnprior,” Miss Knight said. “This must surely be a joke.”
“It surely is not,” Nick said. “And I never joke.”
“That’s actually true,” Graeme said.

SANDY’S REVIEW: My review is for THE CHOSEN by Thea Harrison.

ABOUT THE BOOK: In her visions, Lily sees two men fighting for her tiny country’s allegiance: the wolf and the tiger, each deadly, each cunning. One will bring Ys chaos and death, one a gentler path—but she’s destined to love whichever she chooses. The midwinter Masque is upon them, and the wolf is at her door…

Told from dual third person points of view (Lily and Wulf) THE CHOSEN by Thea Harrison is an adult, paranormal/fantasy romance storyline focusing on goddesses, priestesses, witches, The Chosen, psychic abilities, weather mages, seers and war.

Loosely connected to the author’s ELDER RACES series THE CHOSEN follows Lily, a priestess or as we will learn, The Chosen, the leader of her people at The Abbey, and the woman with whom Wulf will fall in love. Wulf and his people are at war, looking for a place to rest during the unnatural violent winter storms when he meets Lily, the woman that calls to his heart. Lily has visions of Y’s doom, at war with the unknown, and soon discovers that Wulf’s warriors are slowly being poisoned, quite possibly by someone within their midst.

Thea Harrison’s THE CHOSEN is a story of fantasy; of darkened realms accessed through hidden pathways; and of two people whose lives with be forever changed by defiance and war. A detailed story line that requires a little more explanation THE CHOSEN reads like a prequel novella or the first in a series of a new ELDER RACES spin off. The premise is entertaining and intriguing; the characters are passionate; the romance is seductive but limited.

As I stated earlier I chose to read and review THE CHOSEN, as Thea Harrison is the only author with whom I am familiar, and like THE CHOSEN, the other novellas as loosely linked to the other author’s established series and I am fearful of my lack of knowledge as it pertains to the other instalments.

Barb’s Anthology  Review:

Amid the Winter Snow by Thea Harrison, Grace Draven, Elizabeth Hunter, Jeffe Kennedy is a paranormal anthology taking place during the frozen brutal winter snow. Since these are novellas, I will do a short review on each book.

THE DARKEST MIDNIGHT

The Darkest Midnight by Grace Draven was the first book I have read by this author. It was set in her Wraith King’s series.  Upon finishing this book, I will have to find time to check out her other books. I really enjoyed The Darkest Midnight.  Draven has created two wonderful characters in Jahna, our wonderful heroine and Radimar, our equally fantastic hero.  What made this different was the period of time in this slow built romance.  When Radimar, a swordmaster, came to teach Jahna’s brother to become a swordsman, she was only 15.

Jahna had a purple birthmark blemish on the side of her face, causing others to not look at her.   Radimar treated her differently, and during his 3 year stay, he also taught her to become stronger and learn how to defend herself.  During those years, he realized that he was falling for her, but felt his life was not meant for her, especially since she was in training to become Kings Chronicler. 8 years later they meet again at her brother’s wedding, and those feelings are rekindled. It was a sweet romance, and a beautiful ending.  Very well done.

THE CHOSEN

The Chosen by Thea Harrison is a novella from her wonderful Elder Races series.  This was a different storyline then the normal Eder Races, and I loved it.  Harrison has created two wonderful heroes in Lily and Wulf, whom I loved,

Lily is a powerful witch who is the chosen one (by a goddess). She is the leader of a group of witches and defenders who believe in her, and protect her.  In her visions there are two men at war, and Lily must find a way to find the true culprit and stop the war that can destroy their lands.

She meets Wulf who comes to see the chosen one for help in fighting this war.  Despite everyone fearing him as the terrible villain, Lily senses something different. Wulf started off as an angry leader, trying to prove that he was innocent of those rumors of him killing his brother.  Soon Lily sees a sweet funny caring side of him.  I know after a short period, I fell in love with Wulf, and Lily begins to fall too. I also liked many of the secondary characters that Harrison has created, such has both Wulf’s top soldiers and Lily’s witches.

As always, Thea Harrison gives us a wonderful, romantic story, great couple, exciting action and an enjoyable story line. Even if you have not read the Elder Races series, which you should be reading, The Chosen reads very well as a standalone.
THE STORM

The Storm by Elizabeth Hunter is another author who I have not read before.  We meet our heroine, Renata, in a flash back to when we see how she lost her family, including her soul mate in a massacre of the Irin people by the Grigori.  Many years later, Renata remains broken, and unable to feel anything but hatred for the evil Grigoris, whom she will kill at sight.  She meets our hero, Max, and they begin an affair.  Though she is comfortable with Max, Renata doesn’t feel that she can love him, and there can be no future.  He though knows she is the one for him, and is determined to win her over, though one night she leaves him, telling him to find his true mate.  The story picks up 18 years later, when in the midst of a major storm, he climbs the snowy mountains to find her at her old mansion, where she keeps to herself, still hardened by her tragic loss.   Renata still cannot resist Max, but stubbornly insists he needs to leave and look for his true mate.  Max will try to prove to her that their love is real, and she is his soul mate.
Stuck in the mansion with the storm, they discover a secret cavern, where they find things hidden from the past, and also someone has been living in those caverns.  The findings and the people hiding in the caverns will open Renata’s eyes, and in time her heart.  She will begin to see that over all these years, things have changed, even her hated Grigoris.  It was really sweet when Renata begins to let her love for Max open and change her life.  I thought the beginning was a bit slow, but overall I did enjoy this story.

THE SNOWS OF WINDROVEN

The Snows of Windroven by Jeffe Kennedy is another author I have not read before.  We meet our heroes, Queen Amelia (Ami) of the Twelve Kingdoms and her guard and lover, Ash.  Being a new to her throne, Ami is determined to go back to her old mansion, where she lived before the death of her husband, despite the fears that she faces danger there.  Ash, loves Ami, but knows that his past as an ex convict is not what is good for the now Queen.  He is determined to get her, and her two children to safety, and leave.  Ami does all she can to try to convince him that they can make it work.  When they arrive, Ash and the Queen’s soldiers will fight for their lives in a surprise attack.

What follows is somewhat exciting, but slowly Ash will begin to have hope that a future is possible, if only they survive.  I love Ami’s two young children, who are shapeshifters, and it was fun to watch them shift as a wolf or kitten.  This did add a nice element to the story. I did enjoy the story, as well as the main characters created by Kennedy; Ash, Ami and the two children.  Nice quick read.
