ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 5, 2018

Pampered New York Socialite and dressage rider, Kensington Pope, has been exiled by her jet-setting parents to her aunt’s Rodeo Academy in Wyoming. She wants nothing to do with the rough and tumble students there, especially one particularly handsome cowboy, Javier. But she won’t be there for long. She has a plan in place to break out after her next international competition.

Javier Cruz takes one look at the spoiled city girl and instantly dismisses her. The school of tough knocks has already educated him on what the important things in life are, and he has bigger things on his plate. He’s counting down the days until his eighteenth birthday when he can pull his younger siblings from the foster care program and reunite his family. But as he gets to know Kensi, he sees a kindred spirit and discovers there’s more to her than meets the eye.

Kensi begins to question her desire to flee the ranch as her relationship to Javier deepens and she learns the importance of family. But when he discovers her escape plan, will he be able to trust her again? And when tragedy comes to the ranch, will Kensi be able to step up and take her place in the family?

•••••••••

REVIEW: A Cowboy’s Sweetheart begins with Kensington Pope (Kensi) headed to her aunt and uncle’s ranch in Wyoming, out in the middle of nowhere. It’s worlds away from her home in New York city. However, she went one step too far and her parents decided to reign her in by sending her to the ranch to teach her a lesson. Kensi has an upcoming international dressage even coming up, so all she is concentrating on is practicing and getting the heck out of Dodge, or Wyoming, as it were.

Unfortunately, at least for Kensi, her uncle doesn’t seem any happier about her being there than she is. But, her aunt and cousin couldn’t be happier. When Kensi takes her beloved horse to the barn, she tries to hand his care off to a ‘ranch hand’, who just laughs at her and walks away. One thing she knows is that if she can survive the cliquey world that is her life in New York City, she can surely survive on a ranch in Wyoming. She did NOT even consider the fact that would be forced to *gulp* fend for herself and do actual manual labor though, but, she’s used to taking care of herself. Even if it is metaphorically.

Javier Cruz doesn’t have the time, nor the inclination, to engage in anything to do with a spoiled little rich girl who will be gone in a few weeks. He has his own issues he’s dealing with. The most important being bringing the family he has left back together under one roof. Not long after Kensi’s arrival, he sees her rehearsing in the arena and hears her coach (via FaceTime) berating her every single move. It doesn’t take him long to see that there is something underneath that tough façade that she’s desperately trying to hide.

As Kensi and Javier embark on a somewhat uneasy friendship, walls come down and discoveries are made. Kensi grows closer to her family on the ranch as well, which really throws her for a loop when she finds herself wondering what if…………what if she stayed? What if she has actually found a place where she feels loved? And, ultimately, what if she could build a life worthy of the people in Wyoming who have opened their home, and their hearts, to her?

A Cowboy’s Sweetheart is a wonderfully written young adult story. The world that McHugh has built draws you in at the very beginning, which is a mainstay for this author. The characters are believable and relatable. Kensi was a surprise. I tend to have issues with ‘poor little rich girl’ types, but Kensi grabbed me very early on. Her independence and determination get your attention, but it is that underlying vulnerability that grabs your heart. Javier’s backstory is heartbreaking. However, his determination to right the wrongs dealt his family will endear him to everyone. The secondary characters, Kensi’s ranch family namely, are very well written as well. You’ll also want to slap her parents more than once. The absence of the obligatory teen love triangle only made this one that much better. I say it in just about every review of McHugh’s works, if you’re not reading her, you are missing out on a phenomenal author. Well done, Crista McHugh. Very, very well done!!

Law of Attraction by Alison Bliss – a Review

Law of Attraction by Alison Bliss – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo

Description:
For single mom Bobbie Jo Weston, finding a husband is not on her to-do list. She’s focused on turning a run-down chicken farm into a Bed & Breakfast. She agrees to let a friend’s nephew stay with her in exchange for his handyman skills, but she wasn’t counting on the super sexy Seth Landry being that guy. Seth has a special skill-set, all right, but it has nothing to do with hammering nails. As a retired member of The Resistance—an elite group of ex-military soldiers—his dark, unsettling past haunts him. He needs a place to lay low, and an out-of-the-way B&B is nothing short of perfect. The blonde beauty doesn’t trust men, and he doesn’t plan on sticking around long enough to change her mind. The closer they get, the more they can’t seem to keep their hands off each other. And while Bobbie holds on to her fear of watching another man walk out of their lives, Seth’s mere presence has put them all in jeopardy. The only way to ever be free of his dangerous past is for him to accept one last mission…

Review:

Law of Attraction by Alison Bliss is the 3rd book in her Tangled in Texas series.

Bobbie Jo was a secondary character in previous books, so I was pleased to see her get her own story.  Bobbie Jo is a small town girl and devoted single mom. She doesn’t have time to find a replacement father for her son Austin. She’s concentrating on her new bed and breakfast business. And when she’s offered a pair of hands to help with renovations, she reluctantly agrees, but isn’t prepared for Seth.

Seth is the perfect book boyfriend (strong, witty banter, great with kids, kind to animals, handsome, and comes with all his own tools)   His past may come back to haunt him, and will it put his new happiness at risk?   (A previous operation put a hostage in a bad situation and Seth is just waiting for the opportunity to exact revenge, so he hasn’t got time for a romantic interlude)

I enjoyed the chemistry between the main characters, the suspense, and the author’s imaginative storytelling.  Her son Austin, is a riot, at only 4 years old the author gave him such a character and most of the laughs were his.

It’s a cute little read, and can be done in one afternoon.

RUTHLESS PROTECTOR (Lawless Kings #4) by Sherilee Gray-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo / Google Play

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 13,2018

The first time I saw my landlord Jude Wayland, with his gentle brown eyes and a body built to do damage, I knew he was trouble. Sure, he has the nice guy routine mastered, but I’m not buying it. In my experience, no one does a good deed for free.

Now that he’s seen me at my lowest, the sexy P.I with a white knight complex wants to uncover my secrets. He also has me craving more of his sizzling kisses. But I can’t give in to my feelings for him. I promised my sister that I’d raise her daughter without a man, and I won’t let her down again.

Yet as my past catches up with me, bringing danger to our door, I’ll have to make a choice — let Jude in and betray my sister, or run, leaving behind the only man I’ve ever loved.

•••••••••

REVIEW: RUTHLESS PROTECTOR is the fourth instalment in Sherilee Gray’s contemporary, adult LAWLESS KINGS erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for the King Agency doing personal protection and security, private investigation (corporate and domestic), high-risk fugitive recovery, missing persons and kidnapping investigations. This is King Security PI and former police officer Jude Wayland, and waitress/exotic dancer Willa Hartley’s story line. RUTHLESS PROTECTOR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person points of view (Willa and Jude) RUTHLESS PROTECTOR follows the acrimonious relationship between King Security PI and former police officer Jude Wayland, and waitress/exotic dancer Willa Hartley. Jude Wayland knows something is going on with his new tenant: mysterious strangers, and threats against her life, as well as her most recent venture into the world of exotic dancing find Jude going into protector mode as it pertains to the independent and untrusting Willa Hartley. The sole provider for her eight-year old niece Tilly, Willa becomes desperate enough to take on a position at the local exotic dance club, desperate enough when threats of another nature come knocking at her door. What ensues is the building relationship between Jude and Willa, and the potential fall-out as Willa continues to keep secret the who and why behind to threats to her life, and our heroine’s inability to trust threatens her relationship with the man that she loves.

Willa Hartley’s need for independence, and her inability to trust promote an aura of unfriendly and harsh. Our heroine’s aggressive attitude and unwillingness to ask for help threatens not only her life but the life of her eight-year old niece, and in this, she is a difficult heroine to like and accept. A little bit of TSTL (too stupid to live) syndrome does not make for an enjoyable character. Willa’s character development is questionable until the very end, and someone points out the truth of her actions against the man that she loves. Jude Wayland knows loss, and it is this loss that exaggerates his need to protect Willa and Tilly, an exaggeration that brings with it too many heart breaking memories of the past.

RUTHLESS PROTECTOR has a colorful cast of secondary and supporting characters all of whom interact with our story line couple. From fellow exotic dancers, the local cartel, the men and women who work for the King Security Agency, and the requisite evil with many faces, RUTHLESS PROTECTOR is a character driven story line about family, friendship, betrayal and love. The premise is engaging; the leading characters are broken and charismatic; the romance struggles in the face of our heroine’ s inability to trust or ask for help when it is needed the most.

UNIT 77: BROKEN (CyBRG Files #1) by Mina Carter and Evangeline Anderson-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 4, 2018

A soldier changed into a metal monster
Still loves the doctor who made him what he is
Can Drew and Claudia overcome their past to be together?

Unit 77 is a cyborg…but he used to be so much more. Tortured by glimpses of his past, former Captain Andrew Fischer goes through his days in a metallic nightmare, feeling broken inside though he doesn’t know why.

Doctor Claudia Chambers is distraught. After a land mine blew up Drew Fischer and his unit of elite Space Corps Marines, she was forced to implant the CyBRG device in all of them which turned the men into machines. But she keeps catching glimpses of humanity from the supposedly inhuman Captain…could it be that part of Drew is still in there, longing to get out? Claudia is almost afraid to hope–she loved Drew once and thought he might return the feelings. But how can a woman love a machine?
And can the machine ever love her back?

Half man…half metal…all heart.

••••••••••

REVIEW: UNIT 77: BROKEN is the first instalment the CyBRG Files, an adult, sci-fi, romance series co-authored by Mina Carter and Evangeline Anderson. This is Dr. Claudia Chambers, and Unit 77 aka Captain Drew Fischer’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Claudia and Drew) UNIT 77: BROKEN follows the Space Corps Marines elite unit commanded by Drew Fischer. No longer human but cybernetic hybrids of man and steel, a military experiment using once- dead soldiers created an army of powerful but controllable units. With no memories from the past, this elite group of cyborgs should have obeyed but a small number of soldiers have gone rogue including their leader Unit 77 aka Captain Drew Fischer. On the run, an injured cyborg needs immediate medical attention, and Unit 77 knows the exact person from whom this attention will be met. Enter Dr. Claudia Chambers, the doctor who transformed the dead men into automated soldiers, and the woman with whom Drew will fall in love. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Claudia and Drew, and the potential fall-out as Drew struggles with issues of trust for the woman he loves.

Once upon a time Drew and Claudia were lovers but a military disaster destroyed all semblance of humanity and love. Slowly, over the course of time, Unit 77’s memories of a time before bring with it the knowledge of something more than the automated drones the men had become. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense but felt forced and unnatural. Flashbacks and memories recall an earlier relationship between Claudia and Drew.

We are introduced to a small number of Unit 77’s fellow cyborgs, men who are slowly regaining their humanity, along with the memories of what happened and why. The personalities are varied; our story line hero struggles to let go.

Carter and Anderson have borrowed concepts from Star Trek and Starship Troopers in order to create a blend of sci-fi and romance. The premise is imaginative but familiar; the romance is fated; the characters are colorful, intriguing but damaged.

••••••••••

REVIEW: KNOX is the eighth and final instalment in Crimson Syn’s contemporary, adult HELLBOUND LOVERS MC erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women of the Hellbound Lovers MC. This is exotic dancer Jade Winters, and MC Enforcer Eric Knox’s story line. KNOX can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an on-going premise throughout.

NOTE: KNOX contains scenes of graphic violence and sexual situations including some scenes of domination and submission that may not be suitable for all readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Knox and Jade) KNOX follows the forbidden relationship between exotic dancer Jade Winters, and MC Enforcer Eric Knox. Years earlier Eric Knox, along with Grayson Carter and Wolf Stone, served in Afghanistan with Jackson Winters. A roadside set up and diversion ended Jackson’s life but not before Knox promised his friend that he would look after his sister Jade. Fast forward to present day wherein Knox continues to struggle with his attraction to Jade, a attraction he believes threatens the promise he made. With the reappearance of Cartel boss Juan De La Cruz comes threats of another nature when Juan eyes Jade as the ultimate prize. What ensues is the building relationship between Jade and Knox, and the battle to stay one step ahead of Juan De La Cruz, as he sets a plan into motion to make Jade his own.

KNOX is a highly sexual, erotic story line with scenes of graphic violence. The attraction between Knox and Jade is palpable; Knox has wanted Jade from the first time they met but a promise to Jackson kept Knox in the wings. Five years would pass before Knox made his intentions known, intentions that Juan De La Cruz uses as fodder in his bid for Jade.

We are introduced to some of the characters in the author’s new spin off series: Ryan ‘Reaper’ Simon and the Death Row Shooters MC, and Father ‘Rex’ King and The Fallen Kings MC.

KNOX is a fast paced, edgy and energetic story-the perfect end to an imaginative series.

My name is Crimson Syn, not really, but what fun is it to use my real name. Instead I’ll use my inner goddess’ name, it’s much more fun that way. I grew up in New York City where I had a wonderful education, loving parents and awesome friends. What more could a girl ask for?

I started writing at the age of sixteen. The first romance I read was Stephanie Laurens’ Devil’s Bride. Since then I have been influenced by dozens of flourishing romance authors and even more dashing and daring rogues. I must say it, but Fifty Shades was not my first erotic romance, nor did it influence me to start writing them. If you’ve never read Mary Balogh, Elizabeth Hoyt, Lisa Kleypas, Bertrice Small or A.N. Roquelaure’s Sleeping Beauty trilogy, then you’re missing out. Those were my sweet introductions to erotic romance, and boy were they hot.

So here I am, after reading so many wonderful stories, I have too many sinful tales of my own not to share. I like my alphas rough and possessive, and I have no shame in saying it or writing it. I had delightfully wicked teachers growing up, their books took me to new worlds and brought me new loves. So, I want to do the same for you. I want to indulge my readers in those steamy reads that will send them into the arms of dangerous alphas and deliciously sexy rogues, without leaving the confines of their nice warm bed. If I am able to entice your inner goddesses, then I have done my job and I am satisfied.

Simple Misconception / Bitter Retribution by Rachel Sharpe-Reviews & Guest Post

Simple Misconception / Bitter Retribution by Rachel Sharpe-reviews and guest post

SIMPLE MISCONCEPTION
Jordan James, PI
by Rachel Sharpe
Genre: adult, contemporary, mystery, suspense
Release Date: June 20, 2018

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk / Amazon.au /

ABOUT THE BOOK: “A Trip to the Big Easy Turns into a Big Nightmare…”

When private investigator Jordan James returns home to New Orleans for Christmas, she never imagined her holiday could end with kidnapping and death. As she begins to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a childhood friend, she unwittingly stumbles upon a dangerous, international syndicate. With lives at risk and time running short, Jordan must find a connection between these seemingly unrelated events if she ever hopes to find her friend.

•••••••••

REVIEW: In true Jordan James fashion, Jordan is suffering the effects of her breakup with Rick. At the same time, Jon is letting his feelings be known for her as well. Her mother is insisting she come home for Christmas, because she missed Thanksgiving. Jordan plans a trip home for two weeks.

In typical southern family style, at least for Jordan’s family, her mother fills Jordan’s schedule with baby showers, holiday parties, and luncheons. Jordan’s older sister adds to the drama by being pregnant with her first child. To escape the constant questions on when she would be getting married, Jordan slips out for a quick cup of coffee at a local coffee shop. While there, she bumps into an old high school friend, Natalie. Natalie was the opposite of Jordan’s best friend Heather. Natalie was a ‘wild child’ and a free spirit. It seems much hasn’t changed, at least to Jordan. Her friend mentions traveling abroad and an ill-fated marriage to a Russian man named Taavi. She talked Jordan into hanging out and visiting a few bars in New Orleans.

I’m not going to spoil the story by giving you details, but only that Natalie leads Jordan into some difficult times with her family, until Natalie disappears, and Jordan must investigate to find her missing friend.

Rachel Sharpe has woven some great tales of mystery and drama. Into this she’s built wonderful and complicated family relations and friendships. The twists and turns of the plot are well done. I love the characters and feel like I know them. Well enough to sometimes want to slap them…but that’s one of the reasons this series has become a favorite read of mine.

BITTER RETRIBUTION
Jordan James, PI series
by Rachel Sharpe
Genre: adult, contemporary, mystery, suspense
Release Date: October 14, 2015

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: “What started out as a star-studded vacation has turned into a sensational avalanche . . .”

When private investigator Jordan James decided to join her best friend on the set of her hit television series in the Rocky Mountains, she had no idea she would become a key player in a murder mystery more suited for the big screen than the slopes. With one actor dead and a killer on the loose, can Jordan uncover the culprit before another victim makes headlines on Hollywood Minute?

••••••••

REVIEW: Bitter Retribution is the next book in the Jordan James, PI Series. A delightful collection of stories featuring the independent young female PI.

This story takes place after Jordan breaks up with her boyfriend who wants to get married and move to London. Jordan, being Jordan, spooks and says they need a break. She still believes she loves him but isn’t ready for that degree of commitment.
Not having a case to work on, Jordan decides to go on holiday skiing with her best friend Heather, instead of Thanksgiving with her family. Her assistant Jon decides to come along as well. Jordan’s family tries to guilt her into coming to them instead, but she avoids the family drama. Heather has just become the head writer of a sit-com and needs the emotional support of her friend, so off they go.

During the filming of the first scene, a stuntman’s ski comes off and he’s sent into a bunch of trees. He’s taken away in an ambulance and Heather asks Jordan to investigate the accident for insurance purposes. She discovers strange markings on the ski and believes it wasn’t an accident. When the stuntman dies in the hospital, it becomes a murder case, but the police aren’t immediately called because no one knows the stuntman died. The show’s producer asks Jordan to investigate and promises to tell the police if she finds any evidence of a crime.

This story is well written, with twists and turns. I don’t do spoilers, so I’ll leave the details for you to read. The characters are well developed, and the sub-plot of Jordan’s love life and growing feelings of her assistant Jon lend to the building of this series.

Grab a copy and your favorite beverage and curl up for a thrilling story.

In honor of my latest novel, Simple Misconception, book four in the Jordan James, PI series, I would like to discuss a simple misconception about authors; namely, they actually have lives outside their work.

Becoming an author has always been my dream job. When I was little, I told my grandmother I was going to be an astronaut lion tamer who wrote books. At least one of those ambitions came true. An avid, self-proclaimed bibliophile, there are many authors I consider to be favorites, including Dean Koontz, James Patterson, and a friend of mine, Erica Spindler.

Their works open up new worlds to me and many others. Still, I often forgot that the authors who wrote these bestsellers had lives beyond the pages.

When I wrote Cold Ambition, book one in the Jordan James, PI series, I was a newly-wed. Now, I am the married mother of two very active and amazing toddlers who keep me on my feet every minute of the day. I was able to release the first three books in the Jordan James, PI series within a year of each other because that was the primary focus of my life.

Now, there are two tiny tots who come first. Still, Jordan James, being my first baby, is important to me. So, while it took a lot longer to release Simple Misconception, I pressed on. And, while it may take longer to pen Jordan’s adventures from now on, she will continue to have them. And the adventures of my everyday life may find their way into her stories as well.

His Million-Dollar Marriage Proposal by Jennifer Hayward – a Review

His Million-Dollar Marriage Proposal by Jennifer Hayward – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
“I have a business proposition for you.” Sealed with a million-dollar ring!To win the most important deal of his life, Lazzero Di Fiore needs a fake fiance. He strikes a pact with his gorgeous but guarded local barista Chiara: he’ll save her father from bankruptcy, if she agrees to wear his ring! But any convenience is consumed by their explosive attraction. Now Lazzero is determined to see his diamond on Chiara’s finger–for good!

Review:

This installment of The Di Fiore Tycoons series begins with Lazzero Di Fiore needing to close a huge deal with a competitor company. He’s promised his Board, so now, he needs to make it happen. The problem? Said competitor is married to one of Lazzero’s exes, who just so happens to still be in love with him.

When he enters his favorite coffee house, and spots Chiara, he starts to formulate a plan. As he overhears Chiara’s take on wealthy businessmen, he decides that she’d be perfect for what he has in mind: her to accompany him to Europe posing as his fiancé. Chiara isn’t looking for a relationship and Lazarro surely isn’t either. He’s more of a ‘love ‘em and leave ’em happy’ kind of guy.

Chiara, who is in need of money to help her father, accepts Lazarro’s offer. What neither of them counted on was the growing attraction that has been there for about as long as he’s been coming into the coffee shop. However, when past loves emerge and secrets are revealed, they both have some serious soul searching to do…..

His Million-Dollar Marriage Proposal is another wonderfully written story by Jennifer Hayward. The characters are engaging and pull you in from the beginning. Chiara’s emotions are beautifully written and her stubbornness, along with her underlying vulnerability, will have readers falling in love with her. Lazarro has more going on that initially meets the eye. Damaged by his parents’ disaster of a marriage, your heart will ache reading his reasons for being so guarded with his heart. But, when the two come together, the chemistry leaps off the page. If you’re not reading Hayward’s works, you’re sorely missing out. Well done, Jennifer Hayward!! Very, very well done! I can’t wait for the next one………..
