REVIEW:  TIGER STRIPED by Jennifer Ashley is instalment 11.5 and novella in the author’s contemporary, adult SHIFTERS UNBOUND paranormal/fantasy romance series and follows Tiger, a lab-created shifter, and his mate Carly, previously introduced in TIGER MAGIC #5 as they go in search for a part of Tiger’s past.

SOME BACKGROUND: Thousands of years in the past, the Fae created the shifters-a cross between beast and man-and in the ensuing time the Fae lost control and power over the battle creatures they had created for war. Approximately twenty years ago shifters were exposed to the human population. Out of fear, discrimination and specieism, the shifters were collared with Fae magic in the belief that it would control aggression; then they were forced into segregated communities known as Shiftertowns. There are several Shiftertowns located throughout America where shifters live in a relative but strained peace amongst their own kind.

Told from dual third person points of view (Tiger and Carly) TIGER STRIPED follows Tiger as he goes in search of someone or something. Awakened in the middle of the night by a psychic distress call; an unknown force he is unable to explain, Tiger does not hesitate to leave the warmth of his marital bed to hunt for the unknown. Not wanting her mate to walk into a trap, Carly does what come naturally and goes along with Tiger as he journeys towards the unknown. Along with Connor Morrisey, a young lion shifter who has stowed away in the back of his uncle’s truck, our trio crosses state lines, and risks reprisals from the Shifter Bureau, as Tiger continues to focus on his end goal. What ensues is a dramatic car chase with a darkened SUV, and a number of uniformed enforcers trying to protect what Tiger hopes to unleash.

TIGER STRIPED is a very quick read; a short story that reveals a little bit of Tiger’s past, and the ramifications of a controlled experiment that went horribly wrong. There is a little bit of everything: action, suspense, romance, betrayal and love. TIGER STRIPED is a must read for fans of Jennifer Ashley’s SHIFTERS UNBOUND.

Ari Daniels didn’t count on her whole world tumbling down around her in a mess of shredded promises, broken love, and unbelievable heartbreak. Alone and stricken with grief, she shouldered the blame and eventually closed her heart off, refusing to open it for another. After all, anytime she tried, guilt and regret were waiting in the wings to remind her how painful it was.

A bet and one steamy night with a stranger force Ari to confront all she’s been hiding behind. She tries to move on, but he refuses to stand down, wanting what she is terrified to give—herself. This man may very well destroy her in the end, especially when it’s clear he has his own demons.

What happens when two broken souls come together, finally allowing themselves to believe in the beauty of love … only to have to fight harder than ever to keep it.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: UNCONSCIOUS HEARTS is the first instalment in Harper Sloan’s contemporary, adult HEARTS OF VEGAS erotic, romance series. This is thirty-two year old business woman Ari Daniels, and forty-one year old strip club owner Thorn Evans’ story line.

NOTE: UNCONSCIOUS HEARTS contains graphic language and scenarios that may not be suitable for all readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Thorn and Ari), as well as third person point of view UNCONSCIOUS HEARTS follows the building relationship between thirty-two year old independent businesswoman Ari Daniels, and forty-one year old Vegas strip club owner Thorn Evans. The sole owner of a high-end consignment shop Ari is overwhelmed when a tall, dark and brooding stranger offers up more than she could ever have bargained-millions of dollar in merchandise with brand named labels perfect for her trendy Vegas store. Hoping to quickly rid himself of the valuable merchandise, Vegas business owner Thorn Evans is willing to part with the stuff at a loss. A negotiation ensues such that Ari offers Thorn a deal he cannot refuse. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Thorn and Ari, and the potential fall-out as Ari is targeted by someone from her past.

UNCONSCIOUS HEARTS is a story focusing on two broken souls who continue to battle the demons from their past but none more so than Paris ‘Ari’ Daniels. The loss of her parents, and the heartbreak of betrayal continue to suffocate our story line heroine, squeezing the life from her heart and from her soul. Meeting sexy alpha male Thorn Evans, a man’s whose own history continues to haunt his present allows our couple to commiserate with one another about their tragic pasts.

The relationship between Thorn and Ari is quick to develop but Ari struggles with
the ghosts that refuse to leave her alone. Falling in love was never on the agenda but falling for Thorn was easier than she could ever have imagined. Thorn was looking to settle down. Tired of his reputation as a manwh*re, Thorn knows he has found his happily ever after within minutes of meeting our story line heroine. A man who goes for what he wants, Thorn wants Ari with every breath that he breathes. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.

The secondary and supporting characters are colorful and energetic. We are introduced to Ari’s ex-fiance Thomas; her sister London; best friend and co-worker Piper Ross, her fiancé Matt, Piper’s younger sisters Meggie and Melissa, as well as Thorn’s friend and charismatic business partner Wilder Fox. Wilder and Piper’s story line is next in Blind Hearts.

UNCONSCIOUS HEARTS is a spicy, edgy and intense story of family, love and a happily ever after. Harper Sloan pulls the reader into a decadent, realistic and heart warming tale of wounded hearts and broken souls. The premise is inspiring and stirring; the romance is captivating and breath-taking; the characters are lively, clever and dynamic. UNCONSCIOUS HEARTS is a passionate look at a palpable and visceral love.

His eyes get hard for a beat before his features smooth back out. “Yeah, beyond sure. No one to pass this shit down to, and even if there was, I wouldn’t be givin’ someone ideas of materialistic bullshit if I did. More to life than all this shit.”
“Okay, well, in that case …” I cough, not wanting to fight with him about our views when it comes to expensive wants versus needs. Last time I tried to argue the benefits of learning to care for and value something you work hard to buy, I had a black eye for almost two weeks. “In that case, I’m prepared to offer you a lump sum as a buyout for the whole collection, but I also want to mention, again, that consignment would be a more lucrative approach. Our buyout is just a standard percent of resale value, but consignment would allow us to mark up each to give you a larger profit.”
“Told you, babe, want it gone. I don’t give a shit about making it more lucrative. Look around you, hardly hurting.”
“Still, it’s my obligation to make sure you’re informed.”
“Consider me informed.”
“Okay … so I can offer a tentative amount of three million. I would need more time to inspect each item in depth for any defects that could affect the value and also to research a few pieces I feel may be limited editions so that could also affect the value. Meaning that amount could go up or down, but I wouldn’t expect it to be less than two point five or more than four point seven-ish. I wouldn’t need but maybe five days tops, and I can come during the day if that works better for your schedule.”
“You get this gone in two days, and I’ll take one mil.”
My whole body jerks back as if I had been slapped, staring at him like he was absolutely insane.
“That’s absolutely insane,” I tell him, voicing my thoughts.
“No, that’s me not giving a shit and wanting it gone so I can get out of this place and sell it and all this shit some hand with care placed around each room. Woulda left this shit in and sold it with the house, but for some reason I’ll never understand, you’re here, and I still just want it gone. You don’t need five days when I’m taking a two mil hit, babe. That would waste your time and mine, and I’m not a huge fan of wasting my time. Way I see it, you win, and I get a cold mil for some shit I didn’t buy nor care about. So you get this shit outta here, and all I need is that.”
“Thorn, I can’t in good conscience accept that.”
“Then dirty that conscience up and laugh your tight little ass all the way to the bank. Don’t give a shit as long as it’s gone, and I don’t have to do anything to make it that way.”
“This is insanity.”
“Insanity would be tossing it all at the Goodwill drop-off. I’m making money. You’re making money. Only thing sweeter than making money is doing it while I’m getting my cock wet, and babe, that only happens when my stock rises at the same time my cock does.” He steps closer, and I back into the island, my chest burning as I hold my breath. “Course, never had four mil worth of shit to sell to a woman who makes my cock rise without even trying.”
“Thorn,” I whisper, placing my hand against his hard chest with the intention of pushing him back. Only, the second his warmth burns through his shirt and hits my skin, I can’t move an inch.
“Ari,” he mocks, his eyes bright.
“I, uh, the paperwork …” I close my eyes and focus on my breaths and the words my mouth can’t seem to form. When my heart slows enough that I won’t die of a heart attack right here in heaven, I look back up at him. “You’re breaking my brain, Thorn. Please step back so I can think clearly without my body trying to die on me.”
The corners of his eyes crinkle as he continues to gaze down at me, but he does step back. My arm falling down to my side.
“As much as I wish I could have this room cleared out for you tomorrow, it will take at least until late Monday. I’ll need to meet with you beforehand to have some legal paperwork signed for the sale due to its size. But my lawyer is an old family friend, so I can have that by tomorrow around dinnertime, if you wouldn’t mind meeting me to take care of that. I won’t be able to get the cashier’s check until after those are signed, so late Monday is the best I can offer you.”
“Want this shit gone, but it’s hardly a hardship to wait a few more days if that means I’ve got a few more opportunities to try to make you want me as much as you want this shit around you,” he says, his deep voice thick with desire.
“Good heavens, you don’t stop, do you?”
“Not unless you beg, babe.”
“I think it’s best we went back to keeping things professional, Mr. Evans.”
This time, it isn’t a ghost of a smile on his lips. Oh, no. Not this time. If I thought he was handsome before this moment, I was a fool. Because Thorn Evans giving you his full, unhindered smile and a gaze so thick with unspoken promise as it washes over you and creates a fire of the desire you already felt … well, that expression on him turns him from sinfully hot to heart-stopping and irresistible instantly.
“It would take me five minutes to get you to beg me for it, Ms. Daniels. Admit it.”
Offended at the thought that I’m easy, I narrow my eyes. Finally. At least anger is an emotion I’ve had plenty of practice dealing with. “I’m not sure what kind of women you’re used to, but I promise you, I am not that type of woman.”
“Maybe three,” he oddly says, ignoring me.
“Three, what?” I snap.
“Minutes, sweetness. Three minutes and you’d be begging me for all this shit and my cock.”
My mouth flounders, and I gasp.
“Though, pretty sure I could get that in less than a minute and get you doin’ all the work while I watch from my back.”
My arm is up, palm cracking against his cheek before I have the ability to do anything to stop it. “I think we’re done here.”
I walk around him, ready to find my way out and let him find someone else to take all of this off his hands even if it kills a little part of my lux loving soul. When his hand curls around my bicep—not painfully, but firm enough to make me stop—I look over my shoulder with a frown. For a man who was just slapped, he looks almost gleeful.
“One minute, Ari. Give me a minute and if you aren’t ready to beg me for it, when those sixty seconds are up, you can take this shit and not give me a penny for it.”
Walk away, Ari. Walk. Away. No amount of money is worth being some man’s whore.
Spinning away from his hold, I jerk my arm free and step toward him with a roll up to my toes, getting my face as close to his as I can. His scent overwhelms me. The subtle notes of his cologne fog my rational thought, making me drunk with need, and I sway slightly before correcting myself.
“Thirty seconds,” I retort, my jaw tight with stubbornness.
I’m not sure who I shocked more—him or me. I have my answer, though, when I see victory flash in his eyes. Oh, my God … what have I done?
“You’re on,” he agrees, his eyes alight with the promise backed up by his devilish grin.
I nod, incapable of anything more. I stand there in shocked silence as he takes my phone, his thick fingers moving quickly over the screen. I vaguely hear a chime from his pocket and before I can so much as blink, he’s handing me my things.
“Tomorrow, I’ll text you. Paperwork first, then you beg.”
I gulp, jerk my head in what I hope resembles a nod of agreement, and then … I flee.

Wild Child by A.S. Green – a Review

Wild Child by A.S. Green – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
I have never been to a place so tiny. Little Bear Island could fit in New York’s armpit. Still a job is a job and, after surviving Afghanistan, what’s twenty-four hours in podunk hell?

Providing private security for a celebrity wedding is nothing new…until I come face-to-face with Natalie O’Brien. The woman who chose someone else and kicked me to the curb six years ago. Time has done nothing to tame her. She’s a red-headed beauty with a sharp tongue and nerves of steel who could seriously knock me off my game…

When my assistant bails, Natalie jumps at the chance to get off this tiny island. Now we’re stuck criss-crossing the country in my SUV, with her tantalizing scent filling the cab and her smart mouth making me very…uncomfortable. Good thing the job will be over soon. So why does the thought of saying goodbye a second time make my heart stop?

Review:

Wild Child is the follow up to the book Summer Girl by A. S. Green.

Natalie O’Brien lives on Little Bear Island on Lake Superior.  She is everyone’s go to person on the island. A Jane of all trades so to speak. She is the glue that holds her small family together.  But something is missing.  Something or someone has been missing since she walked away from the love of her life six years ago. Six years ago, she was following her favorite band around the country, when she met Jackson Sparke, Jax as she called him. They had a whirlwind romance and he has forever been stuck in her mind.  So much so that no man that has come into Natalie’s life can not hold a candle to Jax.

For the past six years Natalie has pined away for the man she was sure she would never see again.  That is until there is a celebrity wedding on the island and she meets the man in charge of the security detail.

Jackson Sparke has had a rough go of life.  His parents were never there for him,  his gram passed away when he was younger and the girl of his dreams walked away from him and never looked back.  He joined the Navy and became a Navy Seal.  Saw combat and lost some friends who meant the world to him. Struggling with his own issues he never expects to run into the girl that has been on his mind for the past six years.

When they first meet each other again, they both pretend to not recognize the other.  They both have gotten older and their looks have slightly changed. But how long can they pretend that that have no idea who the other is?  What begins here is a wonderful angst filled story of rekindling old love, second chances and moving forward when there are so many complications from the past.

I enjoyed Natalie’s character.  She seems to mean a lot to a lot of people.  She seems to be everything for everyone else.  And in that she loses herself. She doesn’t want to spend the rest of her life on her little island.  She dreams of leaving and traveling and trying new things.  She has clearly not gotten over the romance she shared years ago with Jax.  And when he comes back into her life and offers her a job in New York City, she jumps at the chance. But she is just a small town girl, how will she hold up in the big city.

Jax was an angst riddled character that you just absolutely fall in love with.  You can see that he has truly been done wrong by people that were supposed to love him.   You can see that he truly cared for Natalie when he met her six years ago and was devastated when she didn’t stay with him and chose to return to the island without him.  He loved his grandmother and her death was just another whole left in his heart.  But he has gone on to do amazing things.  Start his own investigation company, which is currently doing quite well.  But he is not prepared for what running into Natalie again has brought to his life.

This is a classic romance with a twist of angst.  You aren’t quite sure you will get your happily ever after with this one. but in the end the romance is romantic and the lives of the characters feel real and fact based.  I loved that Jax was real, and while he was handsome and hard, he still was real.  With real faults, and qualities he just does not like about himself.  But when he is willing to make an effort to open up to Natalie and let his guard down – you completely fall in love with him.

This book can be read as a complete stand alone – which is what I have done.  There was nothing that left me questioning what I have missed. But now I want to go back and read Katherine’s story and will do just that with Summer Girl.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 11, 2018

Erin Dawson had the perfect life growing up in a perfect home with a perfect family. Her parents gave her and her sister everything a child could want. But after learning that the man she’s called “dad” her whole life isn’t actually her biological father, Erin is determined to find the man who is.

Armed with her original birth certificate, she finds her father, but begins questioning if her mom had been right all along to keep this information buried. It turns out he is the president of a motorcycle club, which could not be further from the life Erin leads. But, she’s determined to get to know the man who she gets her striking blue eyes from. Despite getting what she wants and finding her biological father, it’s the slightly older, much rougher but incredibly sexy biker Ace that catches Erin’s eye.

As the new “princess” of the Cursed Ravens, Erin is learning a whole new world, but her father has made it clear she is off limits. Will Ace follow his President’s orders or will he put his heart ahead of his duty?

••••••••••

REVIEW: ACE OF HEARTS is the first instalment in Chantal Fernando’s contemporary, adult THE CURSED RAVENS MC erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women of The Cursed Ravens MC. This is twenty-eight year old MC treasurer Carson ‘Ace’ Kendrick, and twenty-one year old nursing student Erin Dawson’s story line. The Cursed Ravens MC is a spin off from the author’s Wind Dragon MC series and advances the new series arc several years.

Told from first person point of view (Erin Dawson) ACE OF HEARTS follows Erin Dawson as she goes in search of her biological father. Always believing the man that raised her was her father, Erin Dawson soon discovers her original birth certificate naming someone else-Gage Liam Parker-the president of the Cursed Ravens MC. Determined to discover the truth, and meet the man who donated half of her DNA, Erin sets out to find the Cursed Ravens MC. Enter club treasurer Carson ‘Ace’ Kendrick, and the man with whom Erin will fall in love. What ensues is the ‘forbidden’ romance between Erin and Ace, and the potential fall-out as Erin is targeted by someone in the Cursed Ravens MC.

ACE OF HEARTS introduces the players and characters within the Cursed Ravens MC. From the over protective father-figure and president Gage Parker, to the smooth croonings of Rogue, Erin’s new bestie Knuckles, Gage’s girlfriend Veronica, and bartender Dreads. From the outset Erin is welcomed as one of their own but someone is obviously not happy as she is targeted not once, but twice in an attempt to end her life. Erin’s new college roommate is Clover Black-the daughter of Sin and Faye (Wind Dragons MC).

Chantal Fernando pulls the reader into the world of the motorcycle club but most of the work and happenings of the MC takes place behind the scenes. The premise is flirty; the romance is provocative and passionate; the characters are colorful, charismatic and fun. ACE OF HEARTS is a bit of a vanilla story line as it pertains to the Cursed Ravens MC. I am hoping for a more ‘palpable and intense’ look at everything MC.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 12, 2018

A shallow grave exposes deadly secrets as bestselling author Loreth Anne White brings her thrilling series of romantic suspense to its shocking conclusion…

Disgraced ex-cop Angie Pallorino is determined to make a new start for herself as a private investigator. But first, she and her lover, newly promoted homicide detective James Maddocks, attempt a quiet getaway to rekindle a romance struggling in the shadows of their careers. The peace doesn’t last long when human skeletal remains are found in a nearby mossy grove.
This decades-old mystery is just what Angie needs to establish her new career—even as it thrusts her and Maddocks back into the media spotlight, once again endangering their tenuous relationship.

Then, when Angie’s inquiry into the old crime intersects with a cold case from her own policing past—one that a detective on Maddocks’s new team is working—the investigation takes a startling twist. It puts more than Angie’s last shot at redemption and a future with Maddocks at risk. The mystery of the girl in the moss could kill her.

•••••••

REVIEW: THE GIRL IN THE MOSS is the third instalment in Loreth Anne White’s contemporary, adult ANGIE PALLORINO murder/mystery/suspense series focusing on former Vancouver Police Department sex crimes Detective Angie Pallorino, and her partner/lover Detective Sergeant James Maddocks. THE GIRL IN THE MOSS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for cohesion especially as it pertains to our heroine’s back story.

Told from several third person perspectives including Angie Pallorino THE GIRL IN THE MOSS picks up several months after THE LULLABY GIRL (#2) and finds our heroine without purpose. Fired for going rogue as a detective with the Vancouver Police Department sex crimes unit, Angie Pallorino is working towards her PI certificate but the fame of notoriety is wreaking havoc with her current job. While on vacation, Angie and her lover Detective Sergeant James Maddocks will stumble upon a shallow grave believed to be the burial place of a young woman thought missing and drowned twenty-four years earlier. A phone call from the deceased woman’s family finds our heroine back on the hunt for answers, a hunt that leads Angie to a small town of hunters, lies, and closed door secrets. What ensues is a complex investigation and the detective work of one woman, as she battles her own personal demons, and the town residents who are desperate to keep buried sins of the past.

Meanwhile, Detective Sergeant James Maddocks offers up an ultimatum to the woman he loves. Unable to let go of the past, Angie struggles with the possibility of rejection including by the man that calls to her heart. James and his fellow detectives begin analysing a series of cold case files, files that will lead back to Angie’s current murder investigation.

THE GIRL IN THE MOSS is a mosaic of details and revelations from potential killers, to puzzling clues, clandestine lovers and secret lives. Old wounds will be opened, and families will be destroyed as one woman must come to terms with the necessity and determination to bring justice for a woman long thought buried and gone.

Loreth Anne White writes with purpose; an architect of amazing talent as her story line slowly gathers the momentum towards the final reveal. THE GIRL IN THE MOSS is a story of suspense and mystery; secrets and lies; violence and murder but ultimately a story of family and loss.

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SURRENDER is a prequel novella in Elisabeth Naughton’s contemporary, adult HOUSE OF SIN erotic, romance series, and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is Felicity Merrick, and Marco Romero’s story line. SURRENDER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary, although I recommend reading the original House of Sin series for backstory and cohesion. Felicity and Marco were first introduced in the author’s House of Sin series focusing on Luc and Natalie.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Marco and Felicity) SURRENDER reveals some of the backstory between Felicity Merrick, of House Merrick, and Marco Romero of House Salvatici, two Houses within the powerful Entente. Known for their power, control and oft times acts of savagery and brutality, the Houses of the Entente battle for supremacy using their members including Marco and Felicity but our couple work to protect the most vulnerable, against the rules of the people in charge. SURRENDER focuses on the how and why of Marco and Felicity, and their first steps towards securing the safety of others.

SURRENDER is a quick read; a sexy and sassy look at two people caught up in the violence and ruthlessness of a centuries-old system built upon power and control. The character driven premise is energetic; the romance is passionate and fated; the characters are colorful and inspiring.

In the inescapable darkness of the House of Sin

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: UNDONE is the third instalment in Elisabeth Naughton’s contemporary, adult HOUSE OF SIN erotic, dark romantic suspense series focusing on twenty-four year old, American Natalie James, and thirty-two year old Italian businessman Luciano ‘Luc’ Salvatici. UNDONE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book two DECEIVED.

NOTE: Due to the story line content, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers including strong language, and graphic scenes of rape, torture, and abuse.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Luc and Natalie) UNDONE follows the battle between Luciano Salvatici, and the House of Salvatici, one of the five powerful Houses of the Entente (informal alliance) in positions of control. Hundreds of years of deviance, power and sacrifice have culminated in a struggle between good and evil wherein evil will continue to reign unless the right man steps into the job. Hoping to protect the woman he loves Luc Salvatici will make a decision that could ultimately destroy his relationship with Natalie, and thusly any hopes for a happily ever after.

Throughout the story line Luc and Natalie will come face to face with the monster of their dreams. Luc’s attempts to protect Natalie from harm cease the moment he gives himself over to the House of Salvatici. Our couple will be caught up in a world of evil and deviance, power and control. No one is safe including loved ones and family; allegiance and honor are at the heart of centuries of dark secrets, and immoral and malevolent acts of brutality and corruption.

UNDONE is a vastly dark and passionate, heart breaking story of one family’s spiral of damnable acts of vicious behaviour. Elisabeth Naughton pulls the reader into the ultimate story of betrayal and horror, and the path our hero must navigate to save them all. The premise is edgy, riveting and dramatic; the characters are charismatic and inspiring; the romance is provocative and intense.

She was temptation personified. Everything I was not supposed to be enticed by. And yet, one look at her pale skin, blond hair, and deep brown eyes behind that butterfly mask, and I knew I had to have her.
Not just because she was my target. Oh, this yearning had nothing to do with that. As I studied her across the ballroom in the skimpy black dress that showed off her tiny waist, voluptuous chest, and shapely ass, a fire built inside me, one that burned hotter and stronger than the reason I was here.
She was the sexiest thing I’d seen in all my thirty years, even with that ridiculous wig and those fake contacts. And before this night was over, I was going to feel those sexy legs wrap around my waist and draw me in. I would hear her scream my name as she surrendered to me…even if the name she screamed wasn’t really mine.
I crossed the black and white checked floor toward her, unable to stay still by the column where I’d been watching the masquerade party in the shadows for the last hour. The room was filled with wealthy men and the women they preyed upon, all hiding their identities as they met up, paired off, disappearing to the lower levels of the mansion for whatever debauched activities they could imagine. I was already considering which room I would take her to. Would hers be a high-pitched scream? The kind that threatened to shatter glass? Or a low, throaty sound that vibrated through every cell in my body and triggered my own release?
My mission where she was concerned was obvious. She was the eldest child of the head of House Merrick, centered in the U.K., one of the five main Houses spread across Europe that made up the Entente. The other Houses were in Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. For over a thousand years, the Entente had been controlling the world from the shadows—manipulating world governments, militaries, even currencies and economies all for their gain. Most people didn’t know they existed. Those that suspected something nefarious was going on behind the scenes were labeled conspiracy nuts. This woman, though, was making waves for the Entente without her father’s knowledge. She was part of what had been labeled the Resistance—those working to undermine the Entente and destroy its power. And my House—House Salvatici in Italy—wanted her stopped before she ruined everything.

Before topping multiple bestseller lists—including those of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal—Elisabeth Naughton taught middle school science. A voracious reader, she soon discovered she had a knack for creating stories with a chemistry of their own. The spark turned into a flame, and Naughton now writes full-time. Besides topping bestseller lists, her books have been nominated for some of the industry’s most prestigious awards, such as the RITA® and Golden Heart Awards from Romance Writers of America, the Australian Romance Reader Awards, and the Golden Leaf Award. When not dreaming up new stories, Naughton can be found spending time with her husband and three children in their western Oregon home.

IN TOO DEEP (Man of the Month #10) by J. Kenner-Review Tour

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /ibooks /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 12, 2018

Hannah Donovan is not my type.

Intellectual and career-focused, she’s a lawyer, and an intimidatingly beautiful one, at that. I’d rather pump iron than open a book, and the only reason I’d go to court would be for a traffic ticket.

She’s the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen. So how can I turn down her plea that I pretend to be her fiancé for one weekend?

But I never expected our pretend kisses to feel so real … or for it to lead to a wild night in bed that will forever stand out as the highlight of my sex life.

Our performance convinces everyone, but it was never meant to be more than a fantasy. A short term gig before reality sets back in.

I can’t imagine ever being good enough for her, but I’m hooked. And now I’m determined to do whatever it takes to make this fake engagement real.

Each novel in the series is a STANDALONE romance with a guaranteed HEA!

REVIEW: IN TOO DEEP is the tenth instalment in J. Kenner’s contemporary, adult MAN OF THE MONTH romance, novella series focusing on a fund raiser for the popular Austin, Texas bar known as The Fix. This is businessman and gym owner Matthew Herrington, and attorney Hannah Donovan’s story line. IN TOO DEEP can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary although I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Fix on Sixth, a local Austin hangout and bar, is in desperate need of renovations and a quick influx of cash so a plan is put into motion, by a group of regulars, a plan that includes a Man of the Month calendar competition, a recipe book, and a reality show aimed at rehabbing the bar.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Hannah and Matthew) IN TOO DEEP is a fake fiancé romance that follows Hannah Donovan as she struggles in the face of a more powerful force. Hannah and her best friend and fellow attorney Easton Wallace are about to embark on a legal partnership but the money she had hoped to invest in their business is currently controlled by her mother and step-father, money she inherited but her father controls. Hoping to convince her parents that her ‘relationship’ with Matthew is the real thing, Hannah and Matthew offer up a fake engagement but to no avail. What ensues is the building romance between our leading couple, and the potential fall-out when Matthew doesn’t measure up to her parent’s expectations.

IN TOO DEEP is a quick read; a sexy and flirty, heart warming and inspiring tale about two people caught in a fantasy of lies. The premise is engaging; the romance is spicy; the characters are energetic and spirited. The story line ends without a satisfying resolution- I am hoping the author has plans for a more complete happily ever after.

Review:

Ocean Light by Nalini Singh is the 2nd book in her Psy Changeling Trinity series.  Nalini Singh continues to be one of my top favorite authors, as I love the Psy-Changeling series, now her spinoff series, Trinity and of course, Singh’s Guild Hunter series.  No one does world building so smoothly and flawlessly better than Nalini Singh.   Once again, in Ocean Light from the start Nalini grabs hold of me and never ever lets go until the very end.  The sad part of this, is that I can’t put it down and read it too fast; but it’s fun to go back and reread it as I can savor it slowly.  I have said this so many times, if you have not read Nalini Singh, you are missing such a gem of an author.

In Ocean Light, Bowen Knight is our hero; someone that in previous books, was more the enemy than a friend.   But with the end of Silence, enemies will begin to bond and work together to fight off the Consortium, who are trying to destroy the new found peace between the Changelings, Human Alliance and Psy. When we last saw Bowen, he was shot and thought dead; when he wakes up, he has no idea where he is.  Dr. Atalina Kahananui explains that he is in Black Sea (water changelings) territory and they have been working to save his life.  She reminds him of the chip many humans have in their brain which prevents Psy intrusion, but the chip is close to failure. They might have a cure, but it is very risky, as the chip will soon break and kill him.  Bowen agrees to allow them to test the possible serum that the Doctor has been working on, which only has a 5% chance of survival, but as low as that percentage is, it is still better than sure death. He will be the guinea pig to save his friends and other humans.

Kaia Luna is Attie’s (Dr. Atalina) cousin, and part of her family.  She is an empath, as well as a scientist, which she gave up awhile ago to become a chef.  Kaia enjoys cooking, she is very popular, as everyone loves her.  To help a pregnant Attie, Kaia makes sure to help monitor Bowen, and happens to be there when he awoke.  While talking to Attie, Bowen senses the cold angry feelings coming from Kaia, as well as an attraction he cannot understand.  He will learn that her best friend is missing, and is feared to have been taken by the Alliance.   When Bowen explains his people would never do that, he sets out to get proof who is kidnapping people from Black Sea.

In a short time, despite her contempt toward humans, whom she blames for the death of her family, Kaia will begin to see Bowen in another light, and her attraction to him grows stronger with each passing day.  Time is of essence, as Bowen only has weeks for the serum to be injected.  Will Bowen survive?

What follows is a beautiful romance between two unlikely people, with so much chemistry between them that sizzles the pages.  I loved Bowen and Kaia together, and felt her pain, as she falls very much in love with him, knowing she could lose him soon.  Bowen is a strong leader, and is determined to help find the traitor who is hurting Black Sea, and at the same time show Kaia how much he loves her.  This was a wonderful romance, though very emotional.  Kaia was such a wonderful, caring, loyal, fun loving heroine, who also has her own issues (phobia) that limits her. You couldn’t help but love her, just as all the members of Black Sea did.

The last third of the book was very exciting and tense trying to find the traitor within the Alliance, and also in Black Sea.  When Kaia becomes a victim, Bowen will go to any length to try and find her, which could have consequences later.  It was also great to get to see some of our favorites make short visits to help Black Sea and Bowen.  To say too much more would be spoilers, and you need to read this book from the start.

I can’t say enough about Nalini Singh, as she never fails to captivate me with her engaging stories, which keeps our interest from beginning to end; wonderful couples in each and every story; super secondary characters and fantastic world-building.  Ocean Light was a great romance, but also a tense suspenseful story trying to survive and find those responsible for the kidnappings.  Once again, if you have not read the Psy-Changeling series, you need to go back and start with the first book, you will not be sorry; it is a fantastic adventure that we are happy is continuing in the Trinity arc.
