Review:

Must Love Babies by Lynnette Austin is the first book in her new Must Love Babies series. This series takes place in the same town as her previous Magnolia Brides series, in Misty Bottoms, Georgia.   Many of the characters from that series play a big part in this one, which will focus on the Wylder brothers.

Brant Wylder, our hero, is attending a wedding in Misty Bottoms, and finds himself attracted to one of the ladies at Magnolia Brides, who are handling the wedding.   But Brant has to leave early, as he gets a call that his sister was in a car accident.  In a short time, Brant, who is happy enjoying his carefree life as a bachelor, will find his life has drastically changed.  His sister will be in the process of a long rehabilitation, and he now must take care of his 5 month old nephew, Jax.   Brant finds himself handling something he knows nothing about, and his two brothers are of no help, being out of town on business.

Molly Stiles, our heroine, is the newest member of Magnolia Brides, having opened up a bridal boutique.  Molly has a list that defines her timetable for the future, and becoming serious about a man is not on the list for a few years; her business is the most important thing in her life.  She does find Brant attractive, but tries to fight it off.  However, Molly feels bad when she sees Brant having a hard time, and decides to help him.

What follows is a slow build romance between two people who are destined to be together, but determined to fight it off.  On top of this, is baby Jax, who is such a joy to watch and to see how much both Brant and Molly have fallen in love with this precious baby.

Brant was a wonderful hero, and I loved every moment of his learning to change diapers, trying to feed him, and play with his nephew; they were so awesome together.  Molly was a bit tough early on, determined not to let herself get hurt, as her feelings for Brant were becoming stronger.  Though at times early on, I found her a little annoying, I absolutely loved her time with baby Jax.  They too were awesome together.   I guess we can say that Jax is the one who brings them together, as it was very sweet watching them with him, always pulling on our heart strings.   Austin did such a great job writing this wonderful story and making us adore Jax.

Besides the romance between Brant and Molly, the story has some issues each will have to get past.   Brant and his two brothers have decided to move to Misty Bottoms to open a car shop, where they repair and design specialized cars. Brant also tries to help his sister, whose accident was due to her drinking.    Molly also has an issue with her father, who left her years before; causing her fear of being hurt and not allowing her to follow her heart with Brant.  These issues all play a big part of the story.

Having been a fan of Austin’s writing in Magnolia Brides, I am happy to say I really enjoy Must Have Babies, and look forward to the next book.  If you enjoy pure romances, small town atmosphere, great secondary characters, cute babies and wonderful couples, you need to read this series ( I suggest you read Magnolia Brides).

Molly stood beneath a magnolia tree, her face tipped to catch the moonlight. The breath caught in his throat, and for one fanciful second, Brant imagined a mythical princess or fairy.

He shook his head. The woman was real, and he wanted a dance, wanted to hold her in his arms. A little flirting? Harmless.
Stepping out of the shadows, he made his way to her.
“Beautiful night, huh?”
“Perfect.” Slowly, she turned, a smile on her face.
“How about a dance?”
She hesitated.
“I’m not asking for a lifelong commitment, sugar. Just a single dance under the stars. The night’s made for dancing.”
“It is, isn’t it?”
He caught her hand in his, amazed at its softness against his work-roughened one. “In the interest of full disclosure, I’m not the world’s greatest dancer, but you shouldn’t lose any toes.” He glanced at her sequined stilettos, showcased by her cocktail-length dress. “Don’t know how you even walk in those, let alone put on the miles you do, but I have to say that all mankind is grateful.”
Smiling, Molly peeked at her shoes. “They’re awesome, aren’t they?”
He nodded. “You can dance in them?”
“I could run a marathon in these.”
“Okay, then.” The moon shone through Spanish moss that dripped from the live oaks, forming a lacy pattern on the dewy grass.
Kelly Clarkson’s “A Moment Like This” played over the sound system. Reaching the dance floor, Brant slid an arm around her waist and drew her in, breathed in her scent. He swung her out and brought her back in one smooth motion, felt her quick laugh in the pit of his stomach. The music slowed when the band segued into John Legend’s “All of Me,” and he drew her close.
Molly fit perfectly in his arms. She lived in Georgia and he in Tennessee, and that made her safe. And if the plans he and his brothers were working on panned out? Still nothing to worry about since she lived in Savannah. When she rested her head against his chest, he wondered if she could hear the rapid thump of his heart. Ms. Molly was hot, hot, hot.
His hand slid a little lower, and without missing a beat, she relocated it to her waist.
Molly smelled of a midnight garden with just a touch of naughty. His body responded, and he willed himself to think about something else. “How’s the city?”
“Savannah?” She shrugged. “I live in Misty Bottoms now. I opened a bridal boutique. Today’s bride was my first.” She grinned, dimples creasing her cheeks.
The dance ended, and he reluctantly released Molly. “I’m driving back to Tennessee tomorrow.”
“Speaking of driving, thanks for taxiing the last of the rehearsal dinner’s partiers home last night. I heard they celebrated pretty hard at Duffy’s.”
“No problem.”
“I need to stop at my car before I go back inside. I left the little silver heart I attach to the bridal gown’s garment bag in my glove box.”
Brant walked beside her in the soft night air, a hand at her elbow, while the band played Blake Shelton’s “God Gave Me You.”
He lowered his head. “Before we call it a night, I’d love to see the rose garden our friend Cole salvaged.”
“What a mess, but after a lot of hard work it’s incredible again.”
The scent of roses surrounding them, they strolled through the yard. In the silver light of the moon, the flowers glowed and took on an almost magical, fairy-tale illusion. The house shimmered and welcomed, like the true Southern lady she was. Interlacing his fingers with Molly’s, peace enveloped Brant.
They wandered across the expanse of lawn and through the blooms in comfortable silence.
From the parking area, he heard the sound of engines starting, of tires crunching on the long drive. “Looks like it’s about time for lights-out. We’d better head back so you can finish up.”
A slight breeze caused Molly to shiver, and happy for the excuse, Brant wrapped an arm around her and pulled her a little closer, surprised when she didn’t pull away.
Reaching her yellow-and-white Mini Countryman, he made to open her door, then changed his mind, leaned in and gave her a quick kiss, one that should have been impersonal. Friendly. Instead, fire shot through him.
He pulled back, unsure whether he should be relieved or horrified that the expression on her face mirrored his own stampeding feelings. Clearing his throat, he said, “I’m taking care of a few loose ends in the morning, then heading back to Tennessee. And I already said that, didn’t I?”
“Yes, you did. The kiss was nice, thanks, but you don’t need to worry. I won’t show up naked at your hotel door.”
His breath caught.
She grinned, and he understood she knew exactly the effect she was having on him.
“I—” His phone vibrated. “Whoops. Sorry, but I’d better take this. My brothers probably forgot something. Organization isn’t their strong suit. If you’ll excuse me.”
“Sure.”
“Hello? Dad?” As he spoke, he made his way to a gnarly old oak. His father’s voice was gruff, almost as if he’d been crying. Panic grabbed Brant by the throat. “What’s wrong?

Ridley has come to rely on Ben’s steady presence and the delicious tension that simmers just below the surface of their easy friendship—but as much as she trusts that his warnings to steer clear of Jeremiah Salt are sincere, she’s never been one to back down from a challenge and she refuses to abandon her patient.

But sticking to your guns can earn you trouble in the rough terrain of the Wild West, and danger threatens Ridley from unexpected places, forcing Ben to confront his deepest fear in order to save the woman he loves.

Review:

A Touch of Flame by Jo Goodman is the 2nd book in her Cowboys of Colorado series.   This is a western historical romance that I really enjoyed, especially with the couple being so likable

Dr. Ridley Woodhouse, our heroine, arrives in Frost Falls, Colorado to take over as the new doctor in town.  When Ben Madison, our hero and the town Sheriff, meets Ridley at the train station, he is surprised that the new doctor is a woman.  Ben is also very aware that the town will not accept Ridley easily, and that she had her work cut out to prove herself.

At first Ridley was somewhat cold to Ben, but in time that will change.  Ridley pushes herself to help those in need, proving to them that she can do the job, with word of mouth slowly alerting people that she is very capable.  The long road ahead will find Ridley also in the middle of a family suffering abuse by the drunken husband, with Ben having to step in to protect Ridley.

What follows is a sweet slow build romance between Ben, who quickly begins to fall for Ridley, which also starts warming her up from the strict cold start.  They were so great together, as the romance was fun, humorous and their chemistry was sensual.  It was also enjoyable to get to know many of the town’s people, and how Ridley besides doctoring them, quietly manages to help some of them with their own personal issues. The main focus beside Ben and Ridley, and the town residents, was the abusive drunk, who would beat his wife, with the scared children going to Ben or Ridley for help.  He was becoming too dangerous, and Ben would not let Ridley go to their house alone.  This did create a lot of tension and danger into the mix of this wonderful romance, and town. It was nice to see Phoebe and Remington (first book heroes) again, and after Ridley helps Phoebe deliver her baby, the woman in town begin to open their arms to accept Ridley.

I did love Ridley, who was a strong & independent young lady, and in time, as her romance with Ben heated up, was a fun heroine.  I also adored the handsome Ben, who a wonderful hero, great sheriff and perfect for Ridley & Frost Falls.   There also was two major things that happened in the town that brought about danger and sadness, which touched on our heart.

Jo Goodman did an excellent job in creating a wonderful couple in Ben and Ridley, and a story which had a lot of humorous banter, tragedy and an enjoyable romance.  If you enjoy romance, a western and historical background, with a fun sexy couple, then you should read A Touch of Flame.

“What do you do when you write down all your secrets? No…that’s not enough. What do you do when you write down all your secrets and the one person who should never read them does?
I’ll tell you what you do.
You hope.”

REN
Ren didn’t know the meaning of love until he took Della for his own.
To begin with he hated her, but as the months bled into years, he learned the opposite of hate, dedicating his life to giving her everything.
Every sacrifice, every gift, he gave wholeheartedly.
But then love turned to lust and ruined everything.

DELLA
I was stupid to write my secrets down, but I’d been stupid before so it was nothing new.
I couldn’t blame him, hate him, fix him.
I tried to move on without him.
But no matter what I did, I couldn’t seem to delete the secrets I’d written.
Until something happened.
Until he came back and read my stupid secrets.
And nothing was the same after that.

REVIEW: THE GIRL AND HER REN is the second instalment in Pepper Winters’ contemporary, adult THE RIBBON Duet focusing on Ren Wild and Della Ribbon. THE GIRL AND HER REN should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one-The Boy and His Ribbon.

Told from dual first person points of view (Ren and Della), and second person perspective using present day and future reflections of the past THE GIRL AND HER REN is a heart breaking, brilliant and staggering narrative that focuses on twelve years in the life of Ren Wild and Della Ribbon. Where as book one covers the first eighteen years together, THE GIRL AND HER REN is a dramatic, traumatic and realistic introspective about two people on an ill-fated journey of love, laughter, idealism and fate.

From the outset, life would never be easy for Ren and Della; smooth waters gave way to rushing torrents; peace and happiness were but a momentary dreams of ideation and long-sought comfort. Pepper Winters takes the reader on an odyssey of transitory emotions, emotions as volatile and fragile as life itself. Forever is but a fairy-tale of the imagination; romance is a sentiment found only in stories and books…but love….love is permanence, a permanence that transcends life and death, yet in the end not everyone finds the perfection that is the love between Della and Ren.

THE GIRL AND HER REN is a dual introspection of one man’s struggle to be the man deserving of his happily ever after, and one woman’s battle to prove he is worthy of that love. Pepper Winters writes a sensitive, imaginative and riveting tale that will leave your heart in pieces, and your mind in turmoil as you come to grips with what happened and why. THE GIRL AND HER REN is an intoxicating, tragic and exhilarating story that will remain in your psyche for a very long time.

The fallen papers crunched beneath my boot as I shifted my weight, leaning into her, seeking an answer. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

She flinched, her eyes closing beneath an avalanche of pain.

This hurt.

Everything hurt.

“Della…please.” My calloused thumbs caressed her silky-soft skin, catching on her young perfection with my older imperfection.

Ten years separated us.

Ten years was an eternity when she was a babe and I was a boy, but now…it no longer held such power. I refused to let it because I didn’t know what I’d do if I couldn’t touch her the way I was touching her now.

She laughed quietly, full of torture and tragedy. “I did tell you. In a roundabout way.”

“You didn’t.”

“But I did.” She dared meet my eyes. “I never understood how I could touch you, hug you, kiss you, and you never knew. I didn’t know how I could hide my jealousy when you were with Cassie or later with your one-night stands. Dreams of Falling by Karen White – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
It’s been nine years since Larkin fled Georgetown, South Carolina, vowing never to go back. But when she finds out that her mother has disappeared, she knows she has no choice but to return to the place that she both loves and dreads–and to the family and friends who never stopped wishing for her to come home. Ivy, Larkin’s mother, is discovered in the burned out wreckage of her family’s ancestral rice plantation, badly injured and unconscious. No one knows why Ivy was there, but as Larkin digs for answers, she uncovers secrets kept for nearly 50 years. Secrets that lead back to the past, to the friendship between three girls on the brink of womanhood who swore that they would be friends forever, but who found that vow tested in heartbreaking ways.

Review:

Dreams of Falling by Karen White is a standalone novel .  This is my first book by White, and after completing this wonderful story, it will not be my last.  Dreams of Falling is novel about family, loyalty, bonds and friends  (past and present),  who share devastating secrets that will come to haunt them .

Larkin, our heroine, receives a call that her mother, Ivy is missing.  It has been 9 years since she left her home in Georgetown, South Carolina, and though she left on bad terms, she returns to help look for her mother.  Larkin is greeted by the two women who helped raise her, as substitute mothers, CeeCee and Bitty.  Together they try to find clues where her mother is, and eventually they narrow it down to the old decrepit mansion, Carrowmore, which still belongs to the Darlington’s, which CeeCee is executor. The three of them will find Ivy unconscious, having fallen through a caved in floor. The story will revolve around the POV’s of Larkin, Ivy, and CeeCee,  moving smoothly through the present and 50 years in the past.  This was so very well done.

Larkin will find out in short time things her mother and the two ladies who brought her up kept secret, including that she is the heir of the land.  This is the just the tip of the iceberg, as Larkin will learn many more secrets, which go back 50 years into the past, where CeeCee, Bitty and Margaret (Larkin’s grandmother) were best friends, who were always loyal to each other, even when things took a drastic turn.

We will learn about the fire that destroyed Carrowmore, and caused the death of Margaret and the rescue of baby Ivy from the fire.  The mystery of what happened all those years before, and how it affects the lives of everyone was the main focus of this story.  Larkin will also have to face the friends (Mabry & Bennett) that she left behind when she decided to run away, and her father, whom she became distant with.  Truths will be revealed that will bring Larkin back to her friendships, as she realizes the mistakes and misunderstandings that made her run away.

Dreams of Falling was a wonderful heartwarming and heart wrenching  emotional tale of friendships, love, betrayal, family bonds, tragedy, grief;  with an amazing cast of characters.  I loved Larkin, CeeCee, & Bitty, as well as Larkin’s friends Mabry and Bennett.  Bravo to Karen White for this wonderful story that is not to be missed.

As a former Special Forces paratrooper, he saw his fair share of conflict, and he came home with wounds, inside and out. At his sisters’ B & B and farm, he can keep all his pain at a safe distance. But quiet time isn’t easy when a fiery woman explodes into his life…

It’s business—not pleasure—that brings Manhattan PR agent Mia Thrush reluctantly to the farm. Tightly wound and quick tempered, Mia clashes immediately with the brooding Ethan. Everything about him is irritating—from his lean muscles and piercing blue eyes to his scent of sweat and musk.

But as the summer unfolds and temperatures rise, Ethan and Mia discover how much they have in common: their guarded histories, an uncontrollable desire, and a passion for the future that could heal two broken hearts. But will their pasts threaten their fragile chance at a brand-new future?

•••••••••••

REVIEW: THE START OF SOMETHING GOOD is the first instalment in Jennifer Probst’s contemporary, adult STAY romance series focusing on the Bishop siblings of Hudson Valley, New York. This is former Special Forces paratrooper Ethan Bishop, and Manhattan PR agent Mia Thrush’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Ethan and Mia) THE START OF SOMETHING GOOD follows the acrimonious relationship between former Special Forces paratrooper Ethan Bishop, and Manhattan PR agent Mia Thrush. Mia’s latest client is running for the mayor of New York City but his rebellious, nineteen-year old daughter Chloe found herself in some legal trouble that could have reflected badly upon her father’s political campaign. Assigned mandated community service meant Chloe had to be supervised at all times by someone willing to spend the entire summer on leave. With Mia the only ‘available’ adult willing to accept the responsibility, our heroine begins a three month community service of her own at the Bishop owned B&B, and horse boarding stables. Enter Ethan Bishop, former Special Forces paratrooper, and the man with whom Mia would fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship between Mia and Ethan, and the potential fall-out as Mia’s time with Chloe, and thusly Ethan, comes to an end.

Ethan Bishop doesn’t take too kindly to Mia Thrush-a woman he’s deemed high maintenance due to her expensive clothing and chosen profession. Too quick to judge Ethan will verbally attack our heroine at every opportunity but Mia isn’t willing to go down without a fight. Able to hold her own against a man whose own secrets are heart breaking and dark, Mia finds herself attracted to the man who had the ability to break her heart.

At the outset of the relationship Ethan’s attitude towards Mia is caustic and acerbic. He is quick to judge our heroine based on appearances and career, thusly verbally insulting Mia without forethought to insult or injury. Mia never expected to come face to face with the arrogance of Ethan Bishop but as a New Yorker, she is able to give as good as she gets. The back and forth banter and jibes hides a palpable sexual attraction. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Ethan’s spirited and dynamic sisters: Ophelia and Harper who own and operate the family B&B. Along the way, a group of animated, spirited and feisty seniors will add plenty of color and antics for all to enjoy.

THE START OF SOMETHING GOOD is a sexy, fun, enemies to lovers romance. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the characters are energetic; the romance is seductive and sassy. THE START OF SOMETHING GOOD is the start of something good.

Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan–from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he’s making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…

Review:

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang is the 1st book in her new Kiss Quotient series.   I did not know what to expect when I decided to read this debut novel by Hoang, as sex was a major background of this story.  I was totally surprised when I found myself unable to put the book and down enjoying it very much.

The whole concept of The Kiss Quotient is based on a girl who has Asperger’s  (autism spectrum).  Stella Lane is close to 30, smart, very successful in her job as an econometrics, and she loves her job, being a workaholic, working 7 days a week.  Stella is also wealthy, both from her job and her family.  Stella does not deal with socializing, and especially dating; which her parents pressure her to find a man, get married, and have kids. But Stella does not enjoy dating, and hates kissing or sex.  She decides that since she has no social skills, she needs someone to train her how to act on dates, and to practice sex.  Stella feels this will help her find someone to be in a relationship with.

Enter Michael Phan, who is an escort who reserves only Fridays to offer his services.  Michael needs money to help his family (mother has cancer and big bills), and the escorting pays well.  He also helps his mother, as a tailor in their store, and on the side, Michael is a designer, which he has not had much time to concentrate on developing more.  When he meets Stella, she gives him a list that she wants to learn, which at first he finds amusing.  But he senses her fears, tension and awkwardness, and decides to take it slow; just getting her used to being kissed and stopping there.  Michael never escorts the same woman again, but he decides to give her three more lessons, which will include going out on date, attending a club, and slowly having her get used to taking her clothes off.   Michael was a great hero, as he was so sweet, patient and understanding of Stella’s issues.  In a short time, their chemistry together was sizzling, especially as Stella began to learn to enjoy her training, as she began to feel things she never knew existed.  When Michael learns later about her autism, and he work towards helping her overcome her fears. He was the perfect man for Stella, though they both felt nothing would come from their “training”.  Michael had his father issues (he left them years ago), his mother’s illness, as well as his siblings to help take care of.  Even as he was falling hard for the sweet Stella, Michael felt she deserved more.

The Kiss Quotient was a sensual, emotional, heartwarming and sexy story.  It was amazing to see Michael help Stella through her social anxiety, and the loud noises that made her tense and awkward.  I loved Stella and Michael together. This was so well written by Hoang, as she manages to keep us glued to our seats with this wonderful story, with a fantastic couple.

Her mouth thinned into a stubborn line. “This is too important for me not to think. I’d rather not kiss anymore if you don’t mind.”
Michael’s irritation redoubled, and he forced his hands to relax before he popped all his blood vessels. How the hell had he gotten himself into this? Ah yes, he’d been worried about his escort colleagues taking advantage of her. Stupid of him. His life was complicated enough without worrying about his clients. This was exactly why he had the one-session policy.
He would have backed out—it was tempting—but he’d promised. He always carried through on his promises. It was his way of balancing out the universe. His dad had broken enough promises for the both of them.
“All right,” he made himself say. “No kissing.”
“Do the other plans look okay?” she asked.
He forced himself to read them and found them pretty similar, only she’d moved from hand jobs to blowjobs and changed the sexual positions.
Amused despite himself, he said, “I’m surprised you used the terms ‘doggy style’ and ‘cow girl.’”
Her cheeks went bright red, and she adjusted her glasses. “I’m inexperienced, not clueless.”
“Your plans are missing something important.” He held his hand out, and she placed the pen in his palm with wary motions.
She tilted her head to the side as she watched him write FOREPLAY at the top of all the plans in capital letters. As an afterthought, he drew a box in front of each iteration with hard stabs of the pen.
“But why? I was under the impression men don’t need it.”
“You do,” he said flatly.
She wrinkled her nose and shook her head. “You don’t have to bother with me.”
He narrowed his eyes. “It’s not a bother. Most men like foreplay. I do. Getting a woman hot is satisfying as hell.” Besides, he was not having sex with her if she wasn’t ready. No fucking way.
Swallowing, she stared down at the menu. “So you’re saying I don’t have a chance to improve.”
“What? No.” His mind scrambled to figure out why she might say that and came up with nothing.
“You saw how I reacted. It was one button.”
“And then you slept with me all night. You were basically naked, and you cling.”
“Are you two ready to order?” the waitress interjected. Judging by the amused glimmer in her eyes, she’d caught the last part of their conversation.
Stella perused the dinner options, her nails picking at the fabric edging of the menu.
“We’ll have the special,” Michael said.
“Wise choice. I’ll leave you to it.” The waitress winked, gathered the menus, and disappeared.
“What’s the special?” Stella asked.
“I have no idea. Let’s hope it’s not woolly.”
A troubled frown bracketed her mouth, and she leaned forward hesitantly, meeting his eyes for the briefest second. “What exactly do you mean by ‘cling?’”
Michael grinned. “It means you like to cuddle when you’re asleep.”

“Oh.”
She looked so horrified Michael couldn’t help laughing. “I confess to liking it.” Which was the truth, and unlike him. Cuddling was an obligatory thing he did for his clients because he understood they needed it. He usually spent the time counting the seconds until he could leave and go home to shower. Holding Stella had been nothing like that. They hadn’t had sex, so there’d been nothing to wash away, and the trusting way she’d curled into him had made him feel things he didn’t want to think about.

REVIEW:  THREAT OF DANGER is the second instalment in Dana Marton’s contemporary, adult MISSION RECOVERY romantic, suspense series. This is former Navy SEAL and best selling crime author Derek Daley, and Hollywood stunt woman Jess Taylor’s story line. THREAT OF DANGER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information form the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the story line content there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from several third person points of view including Derek and Jess, THREAT OF DANGER follows the rekindling friendship and romance between former Navy SEAL and best selling crime author Derek Daley, and Hollywood stunt woman Jess Taylor. Ten years earlier, home from college for summer break, Derek and Jess were about to embark on a long-awaited romance when a serial killer kidnapped and tortured our leading couple. Barely escaping with their lives, Jess and Derek became the focus of rumor and innuendo, paparazzi and national news, so much so that our heroine moved across country in search of peace and quiet. Fast forward to present day wherein Jess will have to return to her home town to help her ailing mother and the family owned maple sugar business, a town she had hoped to forget with all of her heart. Coming face to face with the man she silently blames for three days of torture and rape Jess is unable to forgive or accept Derek, a man just as innocent and damaged as she. When another local high school girl goes missing, crime novelist Derek Daley begins to piece together a similar profile of missing girls going back ten years, to the present. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and friendship between Derek and Jess, and the fall-out as Jess is once again targeted by a sick and twisted mind- a man everyone believed to be dead and gone.

THREAT OF DANGER covers but a few weeks in the life of Derek Daley and Jess Taylor but weeks packed with betrayal, grief, illness and loss. Jess must return to the small Vermont town when her aging mother falls and requires months of hospital and home care but a small town that comes with remembrances of a time where innocence was lost. Too many bad memories as well as the usual town gossip find our heroine struggling to leave behind her life in Hollywood, and a man she was hoping to call her own. Derek Daley is a crime writer who writes what he knows best-truth life crime and none more so than the events of his past. Never thinking to reconnect with the woman he once loved Derek will have to face the wrath that is Jess Taylor, and all of her glorious anger and refusal to accept Derek and the love he has to offer.

The relationship between Jess and Derek is a second chance romance but a romance that struggles with the horrors of the past, and Jess’ inability to let go. Derek has never forgotten about the woman that stole his heart; and Jess wants to forget about everything that reminds her of a time long ago. The $ex scenes are passionate but mostly implied, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic, language and text.

The large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters include close and extended family, friends, law enforcement and newspaper reporters. The world building brings the reader up close and personal with an horrific crime against our leading couple, and the on-going struggles to make sense of it all.

THREAT OF DANGER is a character driven, startling and thrilling story line of romance, mystery and suspense. The premise is sensational, spirited and dramatic; the characters are dynamic and intense; the romance is tender and consuming. THREAT OF DANGER is an impassioned, inventive and intelligent tale from the pen of Dana Marton.

Review:

Little Do We Know is a coming of age contemporary story by Tamara Ireland Stone. Ex-best friends Hannah and Emory are next door neighbors. They have been best friends for as long as anyone can remember. There is exactly thirty six steps between their bedroom windows.

But a few months ago they had a fight and they have not spoken since. Neither one of them can take back what they said to each other that night.

With the fight weighing on both of them, they want nothing more than to bridge the gap between them. But they just don’t know how.

Emory is planning on attending UCLA after graduation, and she plans on having the time of her life with her boyfriend Luke before they attend colleges on opposite sides of the country.

Hannah’s entire life is based around her families faith. But when she unexpectedly finds Luke unconscious in his car in front of her house, this may be the thing that finally brings the best friends back together. Or is it possible it will tear them even further apart?

I loved the character of Emory. She is confident and knows what she wants out of life. My favorite part was that she has been writing down quotes from Luke every day since they met. I past this on to my daughter who is in a similar situation and she loved the idea!
I love how vulnerable Emory becomes when you finally learn about what started the fight between her and Hannah. I thoroughly enjoyed the Our Town scenes and wanted to see the play in person.

Luke becomes a pivotal character when he loses consciousness and almost dies after a football injury. He becomes the glue that will begin to form the friendship again between Emory and Hannah.  He became my favorite character as he himself also become vulnerable and completely open about what has happened to him.  I enjoyed his honesty and realism in dealing with his situation.

Hannah started out all about her faith and her beliefs. And as things begin to happen she starts to question everything. And as painful as it is to read her going through all of this – it was raw, real and poignant.  The series of events that leads you to finally find out what the fight was about is riveting. I could not put the book down as I wanted to know what was going to happen next and if Hannah and Emory ever return to their friendship.

A wonderful coming of age book, dealing with religion, teenage turmoil, and the unpredictably of friendship.  This will be a book that I will have my teenage daughter read – as it deals with many things teenagers face during their lives. And it deals with them in such a way that benefits each one that is dealing with their own situations. Highly recommend for an amazing summer read!
