Description:
When missions go awry…

Misha Sokolov is one frustrated demon. While his professional life with the Bureau of Supernatural Relations is rewarding, his romantic prospects are the pits. His teammates Kyle and Jean Luc have found their mates (with his help, he might add). Is it too much to ask for his own happily-ever-after?

When Misha finally meets an amazing demon female who could be THE ONE, Fate conspires against him. With the escalating tensions between the earth and realm demons, and his newest case involving supernatural seven-year-old twin boys, he’s too busy for romance.

Callie, a human female, can’t seem to convince her half-demon sons that using their powers in front of humans is a bad thing. And the more time Misha spends with her, the more he realizes she’s keeping secrets. When those secrets jeopardize both her and her sons, Misha will stop at nothing to keep them safe. Because instead of conspiring against him, Fate may have put a spunky, green-eyed woman and her incorrigible sons in his path for a reason.

Demons Will Be Demons is the first book in a Mind Sweeper spin off series. If you like romance with a side order of mystery and a dash of humorous hijinks, then you’ll love this series by Golden Heart® winner and RITA® finalist AE Jones.

Review:

In Demons Will Be Demons, I was hoping to read Misha’s book,  in this spin off series (The Realm) by AE Jones, and happy that is was; ? so a bonus.

Misha was Kyle’s loyal friend and demon. He helped her (yes Kyle is a girl) solve many cases in previous books.

He works for the Bureau of Supernatural Relations, and enjoys the job, but with this new assignment he thinks he may finally get a mate and a happy ending…..

He had found a demon he can finally settle down with (yes he’s been married 3 times, but this one is for keeps)

But he gets tongue tied around her, so he has to wait for the perfect moment to show this female that she is the one for him.

Callie had a relationship with a demon, and reading it, I got the distinct impression it wasn’t a happy one. And now she has twin boys to bring up on her own, and to make matters worse they are half demon with powers (they don’t usually come into their powers until their teens) so keeps no them safe and hidden is Callie’s priority. But she needs help from the bureau to keep the boys safe and to help them control their powers.

So Misha has the hots for a female demon and Callie has her interest firmly set on helping her boys, so I don’t see how Misha and Callie get together…..

But something happens that makes Misha look at Callie in a different light.

And Callie knows Misha has the hots for the female demon, but there is something special that just ticks all of Callie’s boxes, but as far as Callie is concerned, Misha just sees her as the twins mother.

The story line like the previous books are very well written. The characters are funny and flow easily.

I loved reading the mind games series, and this book followed them without missing a step.

Yes you can read this one without reading the previous books, but it gives you more background on the other characters in the previous books.

So how will Misha and Callie cope with twin demons, and will they get their happy ending ? Well ….. you’ll have to read it to find out ?

I grabbed Ginger by the hand and pulled her out of the room, down the hall and to the bathroom. Her resistance was futile, her fear unimportant. I knew what I had to do, and if she were smart, she’d realize it, too. If she wanted to live. I opened the bathroom door and yanked her inside, thankful that I found it empty. It was filthy, but better than nothing, and it had a shower that everyone used when they felt the need to be clean, which wasn’t often.

Ginger spun around when I shut the door, the look of a trapped animal in her pretty blues. I ignored her growing terror, steeling myself for what I had to do. Even behind closed doors I had to make it real, had to be convincing that I was an unfeeling bastard. I saw her swallow, could see her tits rising and falling rapidly as the fear of the unknown overwhelmed her. She was expecting the worst, preparing herself to do whatever she had to do to survive.

REVIEW: Rebel is uncover at the Red Devil’s Motor Cycle club. He goes in ….. finds the dirt …. then he and his “proper” MC Dark Menace disband the Red Devil’s.

But first Rebel has to be “initiated” he has to have sex with a virgin.
Now, Rebel has no problem sleeping with women, but they have to be of legal age and willing, and this unwilling girl is anything but.

She looks well underage under all the dirt and oversized clothing. But he has to look to be doing the part of a new sleazy member of the club.

So after telling the club leader to go away, he drags the young girl to the bathroom to clean up before he does the deed….

Ginger was kidnapped whilst walking home from work.

Bundled into a van, scared and alone, she never thought it would happen to her. She fought her kidnappers, but still she was taken off the streets. Kept a prisoner until a biker took her virginity and then helped her escape. The biker gang had disappeared, but Ginger had kept moving from town to town, afraid they would find her, and take her back.

We catch up with Ginger 4 years later …..
She’s working Bike week at Daytona Beach, a waitress in a bar.
She likes the area, but she knows not to get attached to a place for long.
Saving her meagre wages, living on the bare minimum, she needs savings, she needs to make amends !!!!

And then her worse nightmare comes true …
Rebel has found her (but she thinks he’s a Red Devil biker) she thinks he’s going to take her back, he’s got another thing coming …

Rebel has been looking for his angel, and now he’s found her. On the pretence of collecting the money she stole from him, he has a way back into her life.

The ending is all too familiar, but all the gruff taking and posturing had me a little jaded by then….

It’s told from both points of view.
And it seems to be the newest genre, where the men are men and the women are greatful ??‍♀️ it’s retold in a blunt fashion, and for me a little too blunt ….

It’s well written, but I didn’t get my usual connection when a male is being “an alpha male” and I’d rather read from the 3rd persons point of view (but that’s my preference)

A killer when he needs to be.
He calls no place home, and no woman owns his heart.
Until her.
Luna.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: Luna is running, running from an abusive relationship.
And when she finish stops running, it’s ends with her being in a small town in the middle of nowhere, but that’s how she likes it now, Luna is wary and she doesn’t want her ex to find her.
Living in a small cabin that her grandparents owned is the answer to her prayers.
But the motorcycle club that is on the other side of the lake isn’t, she doesn’t want trouble, and as she hasn’t lived there long she doesn’t know what to expect.

Luna gets jumped on by a large friendly dog, and the owner apologises and they talk, whilst talking several motorcycles stop, and Luna meets Casey’s (dog owner) partner, and Jace ……

We read about Jace in book one. He seemed like a pretty ok guy, but looks can be deceiving…..
He’s a nomad biker (no affiliation with a club, a muscle for hire) and he’s in town to catch up with the Wreckers (the motorcycle club in town)

Jace can’t take his eyes off the blonde in front of him, brunettes are usually his thing, or maybe a redhead or two.

Luna and Jace catch up pretty soon and the chemistry is hot between them, but Luna doesn’t want another domineering man in her life, the last one was more than enough for her.
And when Jace decides that he can’t give Luna what she wants, he rides away and doesn’t look back ….

Julie ?

She pulled away with a cry of anger. “What is your problem, Jace? Why should it bother you what I do with another man? It didn’t bother me while you and that woman were humping each other’s brains out.”

I thought about the telling look she’d had on her face when she’d been watching me with CC, the disappointment and the hurt I’d seen. I’d got off a lot of times letting a woman grind against my dick, but that moment tonight hadn’t been my proudest, because I’d done it with something else in mind. I’d purposely set out to hurt Luna and teach her a lesson, that attraction for men like me meant one thing and one thing only. I called her bullshit.

”Liar!” I whispered sharply down into her face. For a minute we just stood staring at each other in the darkness, listening to the sound of each other’s breaths. I swear I saw the glistening of tears fill her eyes. “We’re not good men, Luna. You come on to one of these men, let him expect something more, and he’ll take it, whether you want to give it up or not. That’s their fucking world. Luckily Puck’s a little more understanding than most. But if that had been me you were rubbing up on, I would have taken you out back and fucked you up against the wall.” It was true. Fuck, I wanted to do it now and take care of the itch I’d had for her since I’d looked into her warm, honey eyes on that very first day. My dick was hard as a rock right fucking now, proving it.

Moody had had it all once, and had lost it in a heartbeat. Now he goes through life as a cold, heartless nomad. A man to avoid and be afraid of, uncaring that each day could be his last. He gives a fuck about nothing and no one, until an innocent woman appears out of nowhere, unafraid of his fury, challenging his demons, making him want to live again. Is he strong enough to let her into his heart?

•••••••••••

REVIEW: We meet Becket James (Moody) in the last book (dangerous) he owns a bar, But is also a biker, a nomad, no affiliation with another motorcycle club. He goes when and where he wants.

He loved someone once, and she died, so his heart is now protected by a wall of ice. We find out more through the book.
He isn’t happy when he finds an underage girl working his bar, and fires her on the spot. Then taking his anger out on one of the “Willing” waitresses (she’s had her eye on him for a while) and when the red head leaves, but catches moody and the waitress going at it in his office !!! ….. sparks fly !!!! He can’t get her out of his mind, but that doesn’t stop him from having fun with the waitress (well, he had a need, she was willing, so he “did her”) cold and clinical !!!! Just the way he likes it, the way he now operates, he does need anyone anymore, he can’t afford, nor want to invest in anyone anymore.

Bailey needed a job, and being fired from the last one she was still smarting, she was a hard worker and she thought she was doing ok, but being told your an underaged innocence would be laughable (she isn’t underage and she certainly isn’t an innocent) and catching her boss screw a waitress over his desk shouldn’t have turned her on ….. but it did !!!

Bailey and Moody come to verbal blows again as she’s out one evening with a friend and visits the old bar, seeing her old work mate struggling with customers, Bailey steps in and gives a hand ….. but who turns up ? The boss, it doesn’t go down well, and as he drags her to his office to shout at her some more, a kiss is thrown in the mix (moody doesn’t kiss, and he never faces the women he has sex with). The relationship between the men and women of the Nomad Outlaw MCs is raw and gritty, with, what on the surface, is a dubious lack of respect but in the end, our heroes and heroines fall head over heels, for the men and women they love

The storyline has Bailey trying to befriend Moody, she needs something from him, otherwise a close friend will get hurt.
Will she be able to find what she’s looking for ? And if Moody finds out she’s only pretending to like him how will he take it ?

Julie ?

“Do you mind?” I hissed as soon as we were in his office. I jerked my arm away from him, conscious of the fact that he’d let me get away. “You have a lot of nerve!” I rubbed where his hand had circled my arm. “You’ve insulted me twice tonight. Are you going to try for a third?”
He slammed the door behind us, and I was too pissed to recognize the danger in that. “Your ass was fired. What the fuck were you doing behind the bar?”
“I was helping Tommy out, for your information.”
“Looked like you were drinking beer,” he sneered.
“Well I’d already put in two hours and thought I deserved a break. Besides, Martin was paying for that beer.”
“He should, after you fucked him in the bathroom.”
I slapped him. I’d never slapped anyone before, and I stood there in stunned shock, feeling the sting on my palm. Before I had a chance to do anything else I was walked backwards and trapped within his arms against the very door that he’d just closed. He was furious. His jaw was clenched tight, and his glittering eyes promised retribution. His nostrils were flaring like a race-exhausted stallion, and I felt a moment of real fear. I didn’t know this man. I didn’t know what he was capable of, and I was alone with him.
“I don’t hit women,” he gritted down into my face. “I have other ways of punishing them.”
I brought my arms up to push him away. “I’m sure you kill them with kindness,” I hissed, angry when he caught my wrist and brought my arms above my head, pinning them to the cool surface of the door. “What‒” That’s as far as I got before he slammed his mouth down on mine and I found out what exactly what his form of punishment was.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 13, 2018

Truth: Penn Walker entered my life like a summer storm—dark, ominous, and filled with thunder.

After witnessing my husband’s murder, I didn’t have much of a heart left to offer a man.

But Penn took it all.
Every jagged shard.
Every broken bit.
Even the dirty and twisted pieces that I wish never existed.

Lie: I didn’t need him to save me.
Lie: I knew exactly who he was.
Lie: Losing him wouldn’t destroy me.

But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

•••••••

REVIEW: THE TRUTH ABOUT US is the second instalment in Aly Martinez’ contemporary, adult, THE TRUTH DUET romance series focusing twenty-nine year old Cora Guerros and thirty-seven year old Penn Walker. THE TRUTH ABOUT US should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one-THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES.

Told from three first person perspectives (Cora, Penn and Drew) THE TRUTH ABOUT US continues to follow in the aftermath of the events of book one wherein, Cora’s life is once again, destroyed by the Guerros family. On the run, hoping to stay one step ahead of the people hunting her down, Cora must face the reality of loss until Penn’s secrets and lies force a confrontation between everyone concerned.

Like book one, The Truth About Us focuses on secrets, lies, perception and betrayal. Not is all it seems; identities hidden, pasts revealed, connections to the present heart breaking and painful. Several members of the Guerros family are missing or dead; those left alive are hunting Cora and the people she loves.

Penn Walker, and his ‘brother’ Drew continue in their pursuit of vengeance for sins of the past, sins that continue to eat away at their minds and hearts.

THE TRUTH ABOUT US is a startling and engaging story line; a raw and gritty tale with mesmorizing characters, and a spicy romance. Aly Martinez’ ability to captivate the reader is compelling and inspiring on so many levels.

Who: Malachi Shawcross and Richelle Crandall (you can call her Ricki or Elle, she answers to both)

Who’s attending: Well, everyone – at least everyone in the Warning Sign and Oblivion families, along with some familiar and unfamiliar faces from Brooklyn Dawn, the headliner on Warning Sign’s big mega tour.

Who’s also attending: Jules’s, Randy and Tristan’s brand new baby, who is getting christened with his or her entire rocker family in attendance. And there may be some more exciting surprises in store for Jules and Tristan as well.

A whole lot of healing, hijinks, and happiness is ahead…and oh yeah, plenty of steamy moments and screaming rock and roll too.

••••••••••

REVIEW:   FINDING FOREVER is the seventh full-length instalment in Cari Quinn and Taryn Elliott’s contemporary adult FOUND IN OBLIVION rock star, romance series focusing on the rock band Warning Sign. FINDING FOREVER follows two couples we have met previously (Mal Shawcross and Ricki aka Elle Crandall in Raw Rhythm / Jules Reece and Tristan Eves in Triple Trouble) as they struggle to move past the ‘accident’ that is slowly pulling apart the band, and took the life of someone they loved. FINDING FOREVER should not be read as a stand alone as there is a continuing premise that addresses the fragile relationships between the members of the band. The FOUND IN OBLIVION series is a spin off from Quinn and Elliott’s LOST IN OBLIVION series. Several characters from LIO cross over for cohesion and continuity, as well as a quick peak into the authors’ upcoming series spin-off MADE IN OBLIVION focusing on the rock band Brooklyn Dawn.

Told from four third-person perspectives including Ricki, Mal, Jules and Tristan, FINDING FOREVER focuses on grief, forgiveness, healing and love. The once tight-knit members of Warning Sign are about to face their greatest fears as they step onto the stage for the first time in six months following the accident that all but destroyed the band and their lives. While Jules and Tristan struggle to move forward, Mal is consumed with the knowledge that he had to make a choice and not everyone is happy with the choices he made. Hoping to find his own happily ever after Mal is desperate to prove he is worthy of Elle Crandall’s love.

Juliet Reece battles the all-consuming grief of death and loss but her inability to let go is destroying her relationship with Tristan Eves, the man who is willing to sacrifice everything to keep his small family together-forever.

The friendships and relationships between the members of the band are nearing the breaking point as Jules is unable to forgive and forget, and Mal’s mood swings continue to push everyone beyond their limits. The potential to co-headline an upcoming tour forces Jules and Tristan, as well as Mal and Ricki to take a deeper look into their partnerships, to ensure everyone gets their happily ever after.

There are numerous colorful secondary and supporting characters including all of the members of the rock band Warning Sign and their significant others-Michael, Chloe, West and Lo, Ethan, Luc and Molly; Hammered’s lead singer Hunter Jordan, and his brother, security specialist Noah; Brooklyn Dawn’s Lindsey York, Jamie DuCaine and record producer Alex Nash; and several members of the band Oblivion including Simon and Margo, Nick and Lila, as well as Ricki’s best friend Teagan Daly, who is about to join Brooklyn Dawn. Lindsey and Alex’s story is next in Play Dirty, the first instalment in the authors’ new Made in Oblivion series.

FINDING FOREVER is a story of family, friendships, strength and bond. The detailed and revealing premise is realistic and energetic; the characters are tenacious, sassy, spirited and flawed. FINDING FOREVER is an inviting, passionate and emotionally satisfying story –here’s hoping for continuing updates throughout the new series.

Taking a Shot by Taryn Leigh Taylor – a Review

Taking a Shot by Taryn Leigh Taylor – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo

Description:
Hockey star Brett Sillinger’s never been afraid of a little trouble. But when his personal life ends up in the tabloids, he knows his career is on thin ice. Luckily, a new team decides to take a chance on him. All he has to do is keep head in the game. But when temptation walks up wearing black knee-high boots, looking for one night of nameless, no-strings passion, well, what’s a guy to do?

Chelsea London is looking to misbehave. What’s being good ever gotten her, besides getting dumped and passed over for a big promotion at work? But her one delicious night of rebellion has unexpected consequences–her hot one-night stand is the latest addition to her father’s hockey team. And suddenly, one night of bad-girldom isn’t nearly enough.

But one false move, and Brett might spend this season in the penalty box…

Review;

I really enjoyed Taking a Shot by Taryn Leigh Taylor.  It was a fun, fast, flirty read with just enough hockey talk to keep this hockey fan happy.  I really liked Brett and Chelsea from the get go.  Both characters are fun, witty, sexy and know how to charm the socks off each other. Their scenes are full of fun, sexy, flirty chemistry and keep the story going from beginning to end.  Watching the two of them deal with their adventure was enjoyable from beginning to end.

Even though Brett is the ‘supposed’ bad boy of the hockey world, we do learn he has a heart of gold underneath all his screw ups in his younger hockey days.  His scenes with his sister/brother-in-law and new niece are so precious and sweet that you can’t help but want him to get a HEA in his social life and professional life.  I loved the way he went completely overboard with all his baby shopping for her, but what I loved most was how he wanted Chelsea to be a part of it all and go with him to meet the newest addition in his family. Those were precious and tender scenes and we get to see that Chelsea and Brett are falling in love with each other and don’t realize it yet, or just don’t want to see it yet.

Yes there is just enough drama between the two of them to keep the story going, but thankfully it didn’t over power the rest of their story. It was just the right amount of drama to make both characters realize they had fallen in love and that the other person was the best thing to ever happen to them.  I especially enjoyed the final scenes where Chelsea decides she’s going to win her man back.  I had a few chuckles with these scenes thanks to a couple of the supporting cast of characters but there were also some oooo and aaaa moments too.

Taking a Shot is the type of book you can read in one sitting, tucked away in your little reading nook with a good glass of wine and box of chocolates.  If you’re a sports fan, especially a hockey fan and enjoy a good sports themed romance, then this one’s a must.

Until next time, happy reading everyone!!

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo / Google Play

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 13, 2018

We fell in love. Then our world fell apart.

I wished so hard for Cole Danforth. And one day, he came true. He was my first boyfriend, my first lover, my first and only love. He should also have been my last.

But in a split-second, we were ripped apart, our lives broken, my heart shattered.

After ten years, I’ve returned to my hometown, the place of my greatest joy and darkest pain.

Cole is still here, but the beautiful boy I’d loved is gone. Now he’s a ruthless, unforgiving man determined to feed both my hatred and my lust.

Then our torturous past encroaches again, trapping us in a violent storm.

But this time, there is no escape.

•••••••••

REVIEW: IF WE FLY is the second instalment in Nina Lanes’s contemporary, adult WHAT IF romance duet focusing on artist Josie Mays, and distillery owner Cole Danforth. For backstory and history I recommend reading the prequel novella-IF WE LEAP. IF WE FLY should not be read as a stand alone, as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one-IF WE FALL.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Josie and Cole) using present day and memories from the past, IF WE FLY picks up immediately following the events of book one-If We Fall- in which Josie has returned to her home town of Castille, Maine to pay homage to the family she loved. But returning home meant coming face to face with her past, a past that is about to come crashing down when the truth is finally revealed. Ten years earlier Josie May’s life was destroyed, and now she is about to face the destruction once again. Cole Danforth has struggled for close to ten years to move on from the past but memories and pain are all that he has left of the girl that he loved. With Josie’s return to Castille, so too, do the memories that threatened to rip them apart. A lifetime battling his father’s legacy, and the rumors that continue to push him down, Cole Danforth isn’t willing to risk losing Josie again, even if it means revealing the truth about what happened, years before.

IF WE FLY is a story of family, secrets, grief, lies and loss; a story about two sisters who struggle to move on from the past; one woman who searches for the answers to the missing pieces of her mind; and one man who hasn’t stopped loving the girl, now woman, he will always protect even if it means destroying his own reputation in the fall-out. Nina Lane pulls the reader into a revealing and emotional story about forgotten memories, broken souls, a passionate sacrifice, and a love that has endured. Although predictable and a rush to the finish IF WE FLY is an impassioned look at love and sacrifice. My only wish is that the author focuses a little more of the town’s acceptance and understanding of the man that Josie loved.

While I’ll take Josie wherever I can get her, I’d rather be with her at the cottage than anywhere else. Reminds me of our cramped apartment where we were always bumping into each other and never had enough room.
As both a girl and an artist, Josie came with stuff. Hair bands. Fuzzy socks. Premium pastels. A thousand tubes of lip balm. I loved her stuff because I loved her. But I’d also been baffled by her inability to hang up a sweatshirt.
Her cottage isn’t any neater, which is just one reason I like it there. She doesn’t answer my knock. I unlock the door and let myself in.
She’s sprawled on the bed in the sunroom, her body moving with quick, shallow breaths indicating a restless sleep. One shapely legs rests over a pillow, and her T-shirt is pulled up far enough to reveal the curve of her ass encased in panties printed with purple butterflies.
Much as I love the sight of her, I dislike like her insomnia, the way she sleeps in fits and starts. Though I haven’t seen evidence of a nightmare, that doesn’t mean she’s not still having them. And going back to the accident site…
My chest tightens. I sit in a chair by the window and rub a hand over the back of my neck.
Two weeks. That’s it. Then she’s gone. After that…hell, you don’t have to think about after. You just need to make sure the truth stays locked down. That means keeping her away from Peterson and any reminders.
Or taking her away.
A roll of half-opened Lifesavers rests on the windowsill. Peeling it open, I find a red one and stick it in my mouth. Sugar and cherry spill over my tongue.
“You’re going to pay for that.” Her sleep-husky voice draws my attention.
She’s watching me, her arms around a pillow.
“I’ll share.” I push to my feet.
“You’d better.”
After crossing the room in three strides, I sink onto the bed beside her and lower my mouth to hers. Though I had every intention of talking to her first, her kiss fires me with heat. The tension in my chest loosens. I brush her silky hair back from her face and slide my hand over her cheek. Breathe in her strawberry smell. My unease slides away, overpowered by her soft sweetness.
She flicks her tongue into my mouth and over the cherry candy. After passing it to her, I lower her back onto the bed. My dick is already getting hard. I cup her breasts and rub my thumbs over her nipples, urging them to tighten. Josie sighs and shifts, hooking her legs around my thighs and wiggling her hips against me.
“You need to stop wearing jeans when you’re here.” She pushes me away and rises up to unbutton my jeans and shove them off. “Makes it hard for this spontaneous sex thing we’ve got going on.”
“I’m always hard for this spontaneous sex thing.” I shed my clothes before climbing on top of her again. Nuzzling my nose into her neck, I lick the hot hollow of her throat. I fucking love that tender little spot where her pulse beats so fast.
I inch my hand up her shirt, pulling it up far enough to expose her breasts, her pink nipples sticking straight up. The sight of her naked body jerks my cock into full hardness. Josie breathes out a moan and grasps my dick.
“God, Cole.” She shifts, urging me closer and parting her cherry-red lips. “Put it in my mouth.”
“Not this time.” With effort, I detach her hand from me and bend to kiss her breasts, pulling her nipple into my mouth. Her groan of satisfaction fires my lust hotter. I slide my hand between her thigh and into her pussy. Ah, fuck, my girl is already wet and primed, like she’s been waiting for me.
Moving lower on the bed, I push her thighs open. She rises to her elbows, her eyes widening. “Cole…”
When we first got together, it had taken her a long time to let me go down on her. No matter how aroused she was or how careful I was, she’d tense up and get self-conscious about being so exposed. But we’d both persisted, and I’d started with gentle licks of my tongue that soon had her panting and pumping her hips. And when she came…more than once, I’d been unable to hold back and ended up shooting my load all over the bedsheets.
That’s not happening this time.

Resisting her only makes him want her more…

Private investigator Billy Parrish is good at three things—fighting, investigating, and sex. MMA training with the other vets in the Warrior Fight Club keeps his war-borne demons at bay—mostly, and one night stands ensure no one gets too close. But then his best friend from the Army Rangers calls in a favor.

Shayna Curtis is new to town, fresh out of grad school, and full of hope for the future. With a new job starting in a month, she’s grateful when her brother arranges a place for her to stay while she apartment hunts. But she never expected her roommate to be so brooding. Or so sexy.

Billy can’t wait for Shay to leave—because the longer she’s there, the more he wants her in his bed. To stay. He can’t have her—that much he knows. But when fight club stops taking off the edge, Billy lets down his guard…and starts fighting for what’s his.

REVIEW: FIGHTING FOR WHAT’S HIS is the second instalment in Laura Kaye’s contemporary, adult WARRIOR FIGHT CLUB erotic, military, romance series focusing on a number of retired military personnel who meet at the local WFC headed by Army Ranger Moses Griffin. This is twenty-six year old, professional photographer Shayna Curtis, and thirty-three year old private investigator and retired Army Ranger Billy Parrish’s story line. FIGHTING FOR WHAT’S HIS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Shayna and Billy) FIGHTING FOR WHAT’S HIS follows the forbidden romance between twenty-six year old, professional photographer Shayna Curtis, and thirty-three year old private investigator and retired Army Ranger Billy Parrish. Billy Parrish is a broken man; a physically and emotionally scarred Army veteran who has agreed to do a favor for his best friend Ryan Curtis, still on assignment in the Middle East. Enter Shayna Curtis, Ryan’s younger sister, and the woman with whom Billy will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Billy and Shayna, and the potential fall-out as Billy is unable to come to terms with the demons that continue to ‘poke the bear’ as Shayna keeps secrets some demons of her.

Shayna Curtis is a strong-willed and independant professional photographer assigned to DC’s Washington Gazette. Needing a place to stay, Shayna’s brother Ryan calls in a favor for his sister, a favor that places temptation at arm’s reach for out story line couple. Shayna has lusted after Billy since the first time they met but as Ryan’s younger sister, Shayna was off-limits to the man with whom she would fall in love. Billy Parrish struggles with PTSD and the physical affects of the injuries received in an explosion, and needing an outlet to vent his frustrations Billy joined the WFC in order to work out his anger and aggression. Hoping to keep temptation at bay, Billy throws himself into the ring, not always considering the who, where or why.

The relationship between Billy and Shayna is one of immediate attraction; a forbidden romance between ‘best friend’s younger sister’ but an attraction that has been building for several years. The $ex scenes are erotic, passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There are a large number of colorful and charismatic secondary and supporting characters including the members of the WFC: Marine Noah Cortez, Ranger Moses Griffin, Navy man Sean Riddick, Army nurse Daniela ‘Dani’ England, diving instructor Tara Hunter, MMA coaches John ‘Mack’ McPherson, Leo ‘Hawk’ Hawkins, and Colby Richmond. WE are introduced via Skype to Shayna’s brother Ryan Curtis, neighbor Reuben and his dog Ziggy, as well as several of Shayna’s co-workers at The Gazette.

FIGHTING FOR WHAT’S HIS is an emotional story of family, friendship, determination and strength. The premise is engaging, intelligent and edgy; the romance is spicy and hot; the characters are wounded, troubled, sassy and real. FIGHTING FOR WHAT’S HIS is an  energetic and inspiring addition to Laura Kaye’s WARRIOR FIGHT CLUB that will captivate your attention from the start.

After she made Billy his sandwich, Shayna noticed that her brother had finally returned her email. She nearly gasped as she rushed to open it.

“Everything okay?” Billy asked.

Grinning, she nodded. “Yeah. Ryan wrote me.” She had to force her eyes not to hurry over the words.

Hey Shay. Shitnubbin is solid B- insult material. You can do better, squirt.

She grinned at his use of the million-year-old nickname. As a kid she’d hated it, but it didn’t bother her so much anymore. Shayna would gladly take any and all teasing her brothers had ever done if it would bring her other brother back again…

Focus. Right. She mentally shoved the thoughts back into the corner where they lived, always looming just on the edge of consciousness.

I’m glad you’re liking the job, but you don’t owe me a thing. You did this all on your own. All I did was tell you what you already knew. And Billy’s arm didn’t take any twisting. Though if he gives you any trouble, tell him I’ll kill him in his sleep.

She sniggered and grinned at Billy. “He says if you give me any trouble, he’ll kill you in your sleep. So, that’s a hello, I guess?”

He smirked around a bite. “Pretty much.”

Seriously though, take your time finding a place. You have a home there as long as you need it, trust me. I’d rather you find the right situation then rush into something with a roommate that doesn’t work out or a place that isn’t safe. You don’t need that kind of headache. And get Ryan to run a background check on any potential roommates, will ya?

She rolled her eyes as she talked to herself. “I don’t think so.”

“What?” Billy asked.

“Nothing. He’s being stupid.”

“Highly doubt that.”

Now she was the one smirking. “Ryan is capable of massive amounts of stupid. Trust me. He wants me to have background checks done on potential roommates.”

Billy’s expression grew thoughtful. “I can do that.”

She rolled her eyes again. “Omigod stahhhp.”

He chuckled and shrugged. “Makes sense to me.”

“Well there’s a big surprise, Ranger Parrish.” She continued on:

It’s hot as balls here and I’ve got sand in places no one fucking wants sand. Otherwise, everything’s good. Keeping busy and doing the job. Looks like we’re still on track for getting home before Thanksgiving. Fingers crossed. I’m glad you’re excited about your new job, Shayna. You deserve it. After everything.

A stinging sensation unexpectedly burned against the backs of Shay’s eyes. With those two words, Ryan had said so freaking much. More than they hardly ever even broached, as if talking about Dylan—and her role in his death—was a poison that neither of them wanted to drink. She blinked fast to force the threatening tears away as she read the rest.

Kick ass. Take names. And get up the next day and do it all again. Just, next time, don’t make me think of real burgers and fries, crotchfruit. All we have is mystery meat you know.

Take care, Shay. More soon. It’s good to hear from you when I’m over here so stay in touch. Ry

Not even the awesomeness of crotchfruit could fully chase away the impact of After everything. Shayna filled her water glass again and took a big drink just to have something else to focus on.

Finished with his dinner, Billy came around to the sink to rinse his plate and the knife she’d used to cut his sandwich.

Then they stood there. Facing each other. An arm’s reach apart. Just looking.

And, for her, once again wanting…

Obviously, the desire was all on her side. But she’d been there, done that, and had the sexual frustration to prove it.

Review:

Treoir Dragon Hoard by Dianna Love is the 10th book in her fantastic Belador series.  As I have said before, Dianna Love is one of my favorite authors, and this series is one of my top favorites.  Once again, she gives us an exciting tense on the edge story that keeps us glued to our seat from start to finish.

Daegan, the dragon leader of the Beladors and Treoir, continues to make his team top priority, and has no qualms about putting his own life in danger.  Treoir Dragon Hoard starts with Evalle (our wonderful series heroine) going on a mission with Adrianna, which ends up as a trap, with her being kidnapped.  Storm, her lover, cannot sense Evalle, since his connection to her was ripped out of her chest during the kidnapping. Where is Evalle, and why did they kidnap her?

The story centers on Daegan, Storm, Quinn, Adrianna, Tristan, Reese and the rest of the team desperately trying to find Evalle.  The other POV is with Evalle, as she is now in another realm where no one can find her. The enemy is in control in this realm, leaving Evalle in bad shape unable to shift to her gryphon self to heal.  She is forced to do the enemy’s bidding to fight off monsters; which is expected from her to be able to fight Daegan, or her friends and family will all die.  What is Evalle going to do?

Storm is desperately trying find his mate, and also try to keep his calm, as all the Beladors and Alterants are working  together to help find her.  The story does not let up, as we are on the edge of our seat throughout the whole book.  I will not tell too much more, since I do not want to give spoilers.  What follows is an exciting pulse pounding adventure, with all of our favorites playing major parts. We also get to see some of our recurring villains such as Macha, Maeve, Cathbad, as well as the new villains, who are just as evil.  I have to say that I was thrilled to get to see a bit more of my favorite gargoyle, Feenix.  ( I love my sweet Feenix).

Treoir Dragon Hoard was an exciting, wild fantastic race to the climax, holding our breaths to see how it would end.   Dianna Love always gives us great characters, even the bad ones.  I love how she makes wonderful heroines, who continue to play major parts of the stories; Evalle, Adrianna, Reese and Brina.

If you love paranormal, urban fantasy, suspense and romance, with fantastic characters you should be reading this series, as Dianna is one of the best.  You need to start with the first book, in order to know Evalle (one of the best kick-ass heroines) and all the Beladors.  If you have not read Dianna Love, what are you waiting for?
