Description;
It’s ex-Navy SEAL Porter Bradshaw’s toughest challenge ever—six grieving nieces and nephews. With his brother, Matthias, killed in a car crash, and his sister-in-law, Sunday, hospitalized, Porter must take his turn looking after their children and the ancestral farm. He doesn’t know much about parenting.  Still, Porter is used to going it alone professionally—and personally. But warm-hearted teacher Clementine Warren is a complication he can’t resist . . .

For Clementine, Benevolence is where her hopes for a real home and family crashed and burned. But as Sunday’s friend and former neighbor, she promised to always be there for the children. And as she and Porter work to comfort the young Bradshaws, his sense of duty and passionate commitment are rekindling more than Clementine’s dreams. Now with trouble coming, she’ll face down her fears to prove to Porter, and herself, that together they can make a future full of love . . .

Review:

Home Again by Shirlee McCoy is the 2nd book in her wonderful The Bradshaws series. This series is set in the town of Benvolence, Washington, which was also the setting for her Home Sweet Home series. Background refresher: The three Bradshaw brothers lost their 4th brother, Matt to a terrible accident that also seriously injured their sister-in law.  With Sunday (the sister in law) in a coma, it is up to the brothers to take care of their 6 adopted kids.  In the previous book, Sullivan stepped in take care of the ranch and the kids, with help from Rumer.  In Home Again, Sullivan and Rumer have gotten married, and are taking a two week honeymoon.

Enter Porter Bradshaw, our hero, who takes time off from his security job in L.A. to spend two weeks with the kids.

Clementine Warren, a friend of Sunday, is taking care of the farm to help bring it back to its prosperity.  Clementine is divorced, swearing off any men, especially her bad ex, who tries to come back for money.  Clementine is determined to help out with the farm and the kids, as long as needed, as she feels obligated to help Sunday.  Then she will leave Benevolence to go back to her teaching job.

Porter tries to pay Clementine for all the hard work she is doing, but she refuses.  When he sees her ex badgering her, Porter will come to her rescue.  In a short time, they will become friends, helping each other with the kids and the farm.  The friendship will slowly escalate to a slow burn romance, with Porter trying to get Clementine to trust him, and open her heart.

The children in this story were all cute and fun.  Things will change with Sunday, and it did become a very emotional story for everyone.

What follows is the slow build sweet romance between Porter and Clementine, which was mostly in the background, but very nice. I loved Porter & Clementine and all the children made this such a wonderful emotional and heartwarming story.

Shirlee McCoy gives us another wonderful story, surrounded by a great family that is deeply in turmoil and the lovely atmosphere of a small town.  As the story ends, we know that Sunday will play a bigger role, and it should be Flynn’s story.  If you enjoy small town romances, family atmosphere, young children, sweet likeable couple, as well a nice story line; I suggest you start this series.

No Ordinary Duke (The Crawfords #1) by Sophie Barnes-Review and Q & A

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 30, 2018

He’s everything she’s trying to avoid…But somehow precisely what she needs…

Caleb Crawford doesn’t want to be a duke. He’d much rather build houses for a living. So when fate disrupts his peaceful life and burdens him with the responsibilities of a newly inherited title, he does what any sensible man would do by fleeing London, disguising himself as a laborer, and seeking refuge with three young spinsters who need his help with a leaky roof.

Ruined by a marquess who promised her the world, Mary Clemens has sworn to avoid marriage forever. Instead, she intends to live out her days with her friends and the orphaned children they’ve taken into their care. But when Mr. Crawford comes knocking, Mary finds herself in real danger of risking heartbreak all over again. Especially when she discovers that he’s not at all what he seems.

••••••••

REVIEW: Caleb Maxwell Crawford is the second son of Camberly. He wet abroad to study architecture against his father’s wishes. He wanted to show his father he could be a success. He returned with awards and drawings to prove his expertise to his father but found his father and older brother had recently died in a stable fire. He would now be the Duke of Camberly.

He’s shocked and reluctant, but he does his duty. After a few weeks and as tension mounts from his mother to find a wife, his friend Robert Moor, Viscount Aldridge gives him a chance to escape temporarily. He goes to a property his friend owns to fix a large roof and a few things. Giving him a chance to be a builder again and be an ordinary man for a little time. His friend’s sister and a few lady friends run a home for children at this property.

Mary Clemmons is a spinster who lives with the other ladies. Cassandra, the Viscount’s sister, and Emily. Mary was jilted by a Duke’s son because his father thought she wasn’t right material for marriage to his son. Leaving her with a serious hatred of the titled.
He introduces himself as Mr. Crawford, not exactly a lie, and that he was sent by the Viscount to make repairs on the home. He and Mary are attracted immediately, but both try to keep their distance.

Author Sophie Barnes has written an intriguing and inventive story of the times. From the issues of being from a titled family, but not the heir; to the issues of women who are unlucky at romance and have been scandalized by circumstances. The characters are endearing and believable. The situations and conversations are both complicated and realistic. The romance is both sweet and builds to sizzling. She has written an inventive solution to the situation and very romantic.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and if you love historical romance, be sure to grab a copy. I’ll be glad to read more from this author and I believe you will too.

Before you tell us about your October 30th release, No Ordinary Duke, let’s find out a bit more about you and your writing habits.

How important is research to you when writing a book?

Very. Inaccuracies spotted by readers can disengage them from the plot and cause them to stop reading the book. I also believe good research and interesting facts add more dimension to the story and flesh out the characters in ways that draw readers in. That said, I have been criticized for poor research, especially when I forgot to explain a fact in the author’s note. Most recently, in The Illegitimate Duke, some readers couldn’t understand how a second son was able to inherit his uncle’s title and become a duke when the uncle was initially a marquess. It wasn’t addressed in great detail during the story, which I think was a mistake. From what I was able to find during research however – and I did ask authorities on the matter – this sort of inheritance was possible (though theoretical since it never did happen historically), if the following were true:
• The marquess was elevated to duke by the King/Prince Regent.
• A special remainder was put in place during this process, naming the marquess’s nephew his heir.
• The marquess had no other children and his wife was beyond child-bearing years.
Every book I’ve ever written has required a lot of research. It’s part of the job since it just isn’t possible to know all the odd little facts that are referenced along the way. Most recently, I researched Regency era hotels in Paris and wine importers during that time.

What works best for you: Typewriters, fountain pen, dictate, computer or longhand?

I do rough plot outlines and character developments in a notebook. When I’m working on a manuscript, it’s mostly done on my laptop with occasional parts written on my phone whenever there are a few minutes to spare. I tried dictating once but it didn’t work out.

When did it dawn upon you that you wanted to be a writer?

Writing a book was something I’d had on my bucket list since I was fourteen, but it wasn’t something I thought I’d ever do for a living. Eventually, circumstance prompted me to give it a try. I was living in Africa with my husband and two small kids at the time. Getting a job wasn’t really an option unless it was something I could do from home, so after picking up JQ’s Romancing Mr. Bridgerton at a bookshop, I decided to give writing a serious try.

How often do you write?

Five days a week for about five hours straight in the morning.

Do you have a set schedule for writing, or are you one of those who write only when they feel inspired?

I look at writing like going to the office so I try to keep a set schedule as much as possible.

Do you aim to complete a set number of pages or words each day?

I write about 3-4,000 words per day depending on how many times I need to stop and research something. 3,000 is my minimum.

Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?

I do read quite a bit, though not as much as I’d like. I wish I had more free time on my hands but when I’m not writing, there’s promotion to handle which takes up at least as much time as the writing, sometimes more when there’s a new release coming. Some of my favorite authors are Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, Sophie Jordan, Valerie Bowman, Elizabeth Hoyt, Elizabeth Boyle, Cathy Maxwell, Lisa Kleypas and Caroline Linden

Do you proofread and edit your work on your own or pay someone to do it for you?

Yes. I review my work several times, as does my Avon editor. For my self-published works I pay an editor to check the plot, grammar, spelling and inconsistencies after I’m done with the initial edits.

What is the most important thing about a book in your opinion?

For it to entertain. I look at books as immersive movies for the mind. The story should be compelling, constantly moving forward and forcing the reader to develop an increased interest in the eventual outcome.

If you had the choice to rewrite any of your books, which one would it be and why?

My first one: How Miss Rutherford Got Her Groove Back. I think I made a lot of newbie mistakes with that one. It could have been much better than it was, so I wish I could give it another go.

People believe that being a published author is glamorous, is that true?

Not really. At least not for me. I spend hours on end at my desk dressed in sweatpants and t-shirts while chores that should get done don’t because well…there’s always another deadline.

Do you like traveling or do you prefer staying indoors?

I love to travel. I’ve travelled a lot, especially when I was a kid since my parents always took me on wonderful trips all over the world. There’s so much to see and experience. I have a long list of places I still hope to go to one day.

Did any of your books get rejected by publishers?

Yes. How Miss Rutherford Got Her Groove Back was rejected more than 50 times before being accepted by Avon Impulse.

Have any of your books been adapted into a feature film?

No, but I did start contract negotiations with a producer last year. It was for my Diamond’s In The Rough series, specifically for A Most Unlikely Duke and The Duke of Her Desire, since those were the only two available at the time. Of course the whole idea of potentially seeing my book on screen was tempting. But they were asking for a lot of things I just didn’t want to give up on, like the rights to my characters, which would have limited my ability to write additional sequels. Ultimately, the deal fell through, but it did give me an interesting learning experience.

If you could live anywhere in the world, which country would you choose and why?

I would love to live in Spain or Denmark. These are the two countries in the world where I feel most at home.

Moving on to your upcoming release, No Ordinary Duke, what prompted you to write this story?

I was actually looking at my calendar back in May and decided that it would be really great if I could fit in an extra release during the fall. As soon as my schedule freed up, I went to work on No Ordinary Duke. I’m also hoping to release a quick Christmas novella before the end of the year. The previous ones I wrote as part of The Honorable Scoundrels series did really well. Incidentally, that anthology is on sale now until November 1st for only $0.99.

Why did you choose to self-publish this title?

Since self-publishing for the first time in November last year, I’ve experimented a little to see what works. I also had a couple of titles I knew the publishers wouldn’t be interested in, so I chose to self-publish those. These were different from what I’m known for, a time-travel historical and a contemporary. Neither did as well as I’d hoped which made me realize I ought to stick to my wheelhouse which is where my fan base is. While writing for Avon is my dream and I hope to continue writing for them for a long time yet, I need the extra income self-publishing provides if I’m to continue living off of being an author. If not, I’ll have to stop writing, or at least write less, and go back into the job market. That would mean giving up on my passion, so I’m really trying to do whatever I can in order to stick with it.

Since series have a tendency to do well, I brainstormed some ideas and decided to run with the one about a duke who doesn’t want to be a duke and a woman who wants nothing to do with the aristocracy. It’s a fun concept, I think, since circumstance gets in the way of their HEA until they resolve a few issues.

Is self-publishing something that you would recommend?

Definitely. Especially if you’re having a hard time getting a publishing deal. If you’re already with a publisher you’ll need to make sure that your contract allows you to self-publish and that you have the time. It should never interfere with the work you’re doing for your publisher.

How many books are you planning for this series?

Three for now and we’ll see after that. It all depends on how well the first book does. At the moment, Caleb Crawford has a couple of brothers who need their own stories.

What’s different about this book?

It’s about people wanting to exchange their extravagant lives with ordinary ones. There’s no rake in need of reform or debutante requiring marriage. Instead there’s a spinster who despises the aristocracy and a duke who wishes to escape it. There’s a mistaken identity trope too since Mary believes Caleb to be a common laborer even though he’s precisely what she’s trying to avoid. It’s fun, emotional, and full of restrained passion as temptation grows between these two.

Thank you so much for joining us today!

It was my pleasure.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 23, 2018

Knox of Iviland has spent his life competing in the All Wars, where vicious warriors with supernatural powers fight to the death to claim new realms. One winner takes everything—and all losers die. Enslaved as a child for his ability to control shadows, the most ruthless champion in history will stop at nothing to kill his king. But first he must win the battle for Earth. When a fearsome weapon imprisons every combatant in ice, centuries pass without progress…until she walks in.

Vale London craves a fun arctic getaway with her foster sister before settling down to open a bakery. Street-tough but vulnerable, she is unprepared to find ancient gods escaping a frozen cave—merciless beings who target her when she inadvertently enters their war.

Though Vale is now his enemy, Knox is consumed with lust and a fierce need to protect her. But only one combatant can prove victorious, and he will have to choose: live for freedom, or die for love.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: I couldn’t wait to read this new series by Gena.

It sounded like a really good read. So I eagerly sat and opened my kindle …..

I have to say, I was a little disappointed ☹️ the world was described in Gena’s usual style (you could easily imagine the ice caves) but the characters lacked their usual luster.

But I persevered and I love the concept, I’m just hoping the next book is an improvement.

Knox is an unbeatable warrior, and knowing he could win his freedom, he is determined that NOTHING will get in his way. He is arrogant, over confident and his kings “greatest asset”, rings and tattoos bind him to his “king” not loyalty and not love, in fact when Knox gets free he is going to kill the king, and we also find out why Knox is the way he is, he hides a vulnerable heart that broke and has never healed.

Vale can only be described as “street wise”but there hides a soft heart, she doesn’t like most people, but she adores her foster sister Nola, who is poorly, so Vale does all she can to makes her sisters life fun and full of adventure.

They find the tourist attraction (a cave full of gorgeous looking statues frozen in ice) and congratulate each other on surviving the cold, and hope to be rescued. But things take a different turn of events …… one of the ice covered statues breaks free…. and he’s not a statue ?

And after killing an ancient, she is now “defending” earth. And it’s not as easy as you think.

The hate/love relationship between Knox and Vale, certainly kept it interesting. The copious amount of sex, I did think a little O.T.T, and the violence and gore won’t be to everyone’s liking. But the new world we are entering is unlike anything I’ve read so far. And i can’t wait to read more.

The secondary characters (and there are a few) are great, well rounded and most are welcome (but keeping track, I needed pen and paper) ? I think we already have a clue as to who will feature in the next book ?

The first meeting between the two main characters is interesting to say the least.

Their interaction does consist of fighting then sex ? They can’t work together, they both need to kill each other, but as there is a certain attraction between them, it’s going to cause a problem.

So, I’m hoping book 2 will be better, I will continue with the series and hope that it improves, the first book is sometimes the hardest, as you have to set the scene for a new world and new characters, but maybe next time, a few less characters and more world building.

Three weeks ago, she and Nola had thought adven¬ture awaited when they’d arrived in Jukkasjärvi, Swe¬den. And it had. For five days. Then they’d road-tripped into Russia and hiked through the Khibiny Mountains with a thirty-something guide who’d promised a kick-A experience. Temperatures had proven frosty, but there’d been very little snow, and no ice. A plethora of trees had awed, their leaves plush and green enough to rival freshly polished emeralds, seemingly dusted with diamond powder. Here and there, rivers had babb¬led happily, and breathtaking waterfalls had cascaded into crystal pools.
Somehow, their little trio had veered off of a path and ended up in this icy wasteland. In a blink!
Backtracking hadn’t helped. The ice had remained, and stretched on. A single set of footprints had led them to a cabin…where they’d spent every day of the past two weeks. Well, Vale and Nola had spent every day of the past two weeks inside the cabin. Before the end of day one, their guide had taken off to scout the pe¬rimeter, hoping to stumble upon the cabin’s owner, he’d said, but he’d never returned, and there’d been no sign of him since.
This morning, the sisters were forced to make a choice: remain in the warmth of the cabin and slowly starve to death, or set out to try to find help, and quickly freeze to death.
As Carrie—aka Care Bear, aka best foster momma ever—used to say, If you want to experience the mira¬cle of walking on water, you gotta get out of the boat.
Better to try and fail than to never try at all.
In desperate need of a miracle, Vale and Nola had strapped on snow gear they’d unearthed in a trunk only a few days before. Oddly enough, the garments had fit perfectly, as if tailor-made for them. The coinci¬dence had roused her suspicions, sure, but in the end she hadn’t cared about how or why, only survival. They’d set out bright and early that morning, trudging through mile after mile of snow.
Now sunset approached. So far, no luck. They’d found no hint of life, and Vale was getting worried.
Getting? Please. She’d been worried every second of every day since the nightmare had started. She wasn’t ready to die.

Once she and Vamp are reunited again, they realize there is a very real threat to them both. Lorraine and Vamp are put to the test to rekindle their long lost love and stay alive.

••••••••••

REVIEW: INCITING A RIOT is the second instalment in Karen Renee’s contemporary, adult RIOT MC erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women of the Riot MC. This is thirty-one year old, Riot MC member Cary ‘Vamp’ Sullivan, and twenty-six year old, home-loan officer Lorraine Francis ‘Frankie’ Ingram’s story line. INCITING A RIOT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: INCITING A RIOT contains scenes of graphic violence and strong language that may not be suitable for all readers.

Told from first person point of view (Frankie) and third person (Vamp) INCITING A RIOT follows the second chance romance between Cary ‘Vamp’ Sullivan, and home-loan officer Lorraine Francis ‘Frankie’ Ingram. Six years earlier Cary Sullivan destroyed Lorraine Ingram’s heart, pushing the woman he loved to walk away without looking back. Fast forward to present day wherein Cary Sullivan is the Riot MC member known as Vamp, and he is desperate to rekindle the relationship with the woman he has never stopped loving, but a woman whose dating record reveals a long history of cheaters. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Vamp and Frankie, and the potential fall-out as Frankie is targeted by a cheating ex, and Vamp’s colorful past.

Lorraine ‘Frankie’ Ingram has a poor track record with men who cheat-eleven so far-and number eleven is the most physically dangerous but not the most heart breaking destructive. Having loved only one man Frankie is reluctant to start back up with Cary Sullivan, knowing his history and reputation as a man-whore including the time six years ago he ripped out her heart, and destroyed her soul. Cary ‘Vamp’ Sullivan has never stopped loving the woman whose heart he ripped out and left for garbage. When Cary discovers that Lorraine has been the victim of an assault, he and the Riot MC work overtime to protect the woman he wants back in his life.

The relationship between Vamp and Frankie is one of second chances; a rekindling romance between former lovers whose lives were destroyed by infidelity and immaturity. Vamp wants Frankie back in his life; he is a changed man and is hoping to prove he is worthy of the woman he loves. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and erotic

The large number of colorful secondary and supporting characters include Frankie’s best friend Reggie and his partner Tucker; her boss Roxanne; Frankie’s cousin Diane; Vamp’s brothers Brock and Gabe, their parents Warren and Marnie; Cal and Mallory (Unforeseen Riot #1), Club President Henry ‘Volt’ Adler and his old lady Jackie; Blood and Abby; Roll and Trixie; Leatherneck MC member Razor Richardson; Natasha, and numerous members of the Riot MC. Razor’s story line is next in INTO THE RIOT. The requisite evil has many faces.

INCITING is an entertaining and engaging story line. The premise is fast paced and energetic; the characters are edgy; the romance is captivating and electric. There are some issues of repetition, and an overwhelming focus on non-essential information including fashion and jewellery-sometimes too much is too much. INCITING A RIOT is gritty, character driven MC story, and I am looking forward to the next instalment.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 23, 2018

His touch takes my breath away. Our passion feeds my soul…

My love for Damien fills me, and the intensity of our bond brings me to my knees. There is no burden I wouldn’t bear for him, no decadent punishment to which I won’t submit.

The dark days seemingly behind us, we have carved a life out of adversity, chiseling away pain to reveal strength and beauty. Now, all I want is to laugh with our children in the sunlight, then surrender myself to Damien’s embrace in the dark.

But lingering secrets and hidden menace threaten our family. Now, Damien and I must forge a new strength from our shared passion and hope the fire between us will burn away the darkness and protect everything we hold most dear.

This sexy, emotionally charged romance continues the story of Damien Stark, the powerful billionaire who’s never had to take “no” for an answer, and his beloved wife Nikki Fairchild Stark.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: LOST WITH ME is the fifth instalment in J. Kenner’s contemporary, adult STARK SAGA erotic, romance series focusing on Damien Stark, and his wife Nikki Fairchild-Stark. LOST WITH ME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion. Several characters from the Stark Series spin-offs cross over into the current story line.

Told from first person point of view (Nikki) LOST WITH ME continues to focus on billionaire businessman Damien Stark, and his wife, app developer Nikki Fairchild-Stark.

All the money in the world doesn’t buy the safety and security Damien hopes to afford his young family. Now the father of two daughters, ages four and two, Damien’s priority is the protection of his wife and children but all does not go according to plans as Nikki becomes the target of jealousy, and their children’s safety is threatened in the process. Sins from the past continue to haunt our leading couple, intimidation and potential disaster push Nikki to revert to damaging ways. Everyone is suspect; familiar faces and names are called into question; friendships are jeopardized in the process.

The relationship between Nikki and Damien is highly sexual including our couple’s need to reclaim what was in the face of potential loss and disaster. I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word I find inappropriate in any romance story line-a word used only once-more for shock value than anything else.

The numerous secondary and supporting characters are familiar, colourful and entertaining. Nikki’s best friend Jamie is a force to be reckoned; new faces come into question when the Stark’s face a potential disaster and the potential loss of someone close.

LOST WITH ME is a heartbreaking and emotional story line. The characters are energetic; the romance is passionate and intense; the premise is spirited and lively. LOST WITH ME is a revealing story line as Damien and Nikki face the challenges that have become their life.

His name dies on my lips, but I hear it all the same in my head. Damien. My voice breathy. Full of need.
He eases me back so that my body is flush against his, and I close my eyes, losing myself in the way his touch makes me feel even while fighting the urge to step away. To tell him to stop. That we’re in public, and we can’t do this.
But I don’t. I stay, and as I close my eyes in acceptance of my own desires, I hear his low, soft moan of satisfaction and feel the swell of his erection against my lower back, his arousal growing with my acquiescence.
Mine, too.
Because while I may not want to be the kind of woman who gets turned on by her lover’s touch in a public gallery, I can’t deny the heat building between my thighs any more than I can deny the basic truth that where Damien is concerned, there are no limits. Not because I have none, but because he knows how to take me right to the edge. To make me breathless and needy and desperate. But never to push too far.
I’d changed before meeting Jamie for lunch, and now I’m wearing a knit tank that hugs my body and a wrap style skirt that fastens with a single button at my hip. His hands are pressed against the curve of my waist, the heat of contact burning through the black knit of my top. I make a small move as if to turn around, but he tightens his grip, his utterance of noso soft that I may have only imagined it.
But I know I’m not imagining the motion of his hands as he slowly eases them up my body, making my heart beat faster with each millimeter of progress higher and higher. My breath is shallow, and I whisper his name, “Damien,” not certain if I’m acknowledging the moment, pleading with him to stop, or begging him to continue.
His hands curve under my breasts, his palms lifting them as he presses his thumbs down until my nipples are pinched tight between his thumbs and forefingers. He increases the pressure, and I suck in air, squeezing my legs together, my clit throbbing as I bite my lower lip and fight the urge to surrender to the heat that is building inside me.
“You’re wondering if it’s pleasure she’s feeling,” he says, and my mind has traveled so far from these walls that it takes me a moment to realize that he’s referring to the woman in Blaine’s painting. “Pleasure or embarrassment,” he adds as his right hand eases lower, his fingers finding the flap of material where the ends of the skirt overlap.
He slips his hand in, his palm sliding over the brushed cotton, his fingers slowly tugging the interior layer toward him. It bunches within his hand, and I bite back a gasp when his fingertips graze the bare skin of my thigh. “Was she turned on by the knowledge that so many would see her portrait?”
His fingers slowly ease higher, closer and closer to my bare sex. I bite my lower lip and close my eyes, my entire body aching with need, craving his touch. I can imagine his hand cupping my sex, his fingers sliding inside as his lips brush my ear while he whispers to me, his sensual words making my imagination soar as my body quivers and tightens and explodes around him, and taste blood from biting down so hard to keep from crying out.
I imagine all of that. Craving it. Desperate for it.
And at the same time terrified of it.
“Not here,” I murmur, resting my hand over my skirt. Over his hand. “Not now.”
His fingers still, but he inches closer, his heat burning into my body, the beat of his heart reverberating through me.
“I got your note. And your present.” His whisper rumbles through me, his words making me even more aware that I’m bare beneath this skirt. “I missed you by just ten minutes.”
“How did you find me?”
“I have my ways. And I’m willing to use all my resources to get what I want.”
There’s a tease in his voice, and I smile in realization and amusement. Because it didn’t actually take too many resources. Just the app that’s installed on both our phones as well as our cars—and Bree’s, of course, in case we need to find her and the kids.
He would have checked his phone, seen that I’d parked in Beverly Hills, and remembered that I was going to check on the girls’ cakes today. Presumably he was following my route and saw me step in here.
“Do you really think I need a tracking device to find you?” he counters, after I tell him all that. “Don’t you know that you’re always in my heart, and how can I lose track of that?”
I smile and sigh happily, his words delighting me. And, who knows. Maybe it’s true. My husband is a remarkable man.
“I wanted to see you.” There’s a tone of finality in his voice. As if the details simply don’t matter. As if his will alone is enough to find me.
Maybe it is.
“To touch you.” The fingers of his hand that still cup my breast tighten on my nipple, sending a new shock of desire running down to my core.
“I wanted to know if you’re still bare, or if you’ve put on a fresh pair of panties.” His hand stays perfectly still, but, damn me, I relax the pressure of my own hand that’s been keeping his in check.
“We can’t.” It’s a public gallery. Anyone could come in. But even as I think that, my eyes roam the room. The section we’re in has no windows. And the gallery is empty and echoey, with a bell over the door. We’re alone, except for Emily. And if she came this way her heels will undoubtedly click on the floor, giving us plenty of warning.
The thought—the fantasy—makes my body tighten. “We can’t,” I repeat, as much to underscore the point as to remind myself of that very basic truth.
“No?” His mouth brushes my ear, his breath disturbing my hair and sending shivers down my spine. “What if I told you that Emily was busy at her computer. That she’s locked the door for lunch. That I’m certain we won’t be seen.”
I swallow and say nothing, afraid that if I speak, my desire will betray my common sense.
“She won’t want to disturb us. Not when we might be contemplating a purchase. Destroy the moment, and she could lose a sale. She knows that. Knows that a client needs to get lost in the art. In the moment.”
His thumb has been making small circles on my breast, and my heart is beating so hard now that I’m surprised Emily can’t hear its echo on the far side of the gallery. On my legs, his fingers move subtly. Not rising, but neither are they still. Instead, his fingertips brush my bare flesh in sensual movements designed to entice and tease.
“What do you want, Nikki?” His words are as tender against my flesh as his fingers. “Do you want me to move higher, millimeter by millimeter, up your wet thighs as you hold your breath in anticipation? Would you cry out if I stroked your clit, unable to hold back the explosion?
“Or maybe I shouldn’t stroke you there at all. Maybe I should slide my fingers deep inside you. Feel how slick you are, the way your body will clench around me, drawing me in as I use my thumb to tease around your clit. Never quite touching, but drawing you up and up, until you can’t take it anymore.”
I can’t take it right now, and I’m certain he knows it. I want to tell him to stop—except I don’t want him to stop.
And so all I do is whisper his name. A plea. A prayer.
“Damien.”
“That’s right, baby.” I hear heat in his low, melodic voice, a passion now equal to my own. “Would you scream my name when you explode? Or would you be so quiet as you tremble in my arms, that I’d be the only one who knows the force of your orgasm rocking through you?
I’m trembling now, so close to the explosion he’s describing that my skin seems to sizzle. The thin whisper of air from the ducts above does nothing to cool my heated flesh. I want the release, crave it, and yet I can’t quite let myself go. Not here. Not like this.
Damien knows that, of course. His real purpose isn’t to make me come—it’s to take me to the precipice. Pleasure, yes, but underscored by frustration. By need. And, ultimately by anticipation.

•••••••••

REVIEW: INDISCREET is the second instalment in Nicole French’s contemporary, adult DISCREET romance duology focusing on Hollywood actor / recluse Will ‘Fitz’ Baker, and musician/singer Maggie Sharp aka Lily Pad. INDISCREET should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book one-DISCREET.

Told from first person point of view (Maggie Sharp) INDISCREET continues to focus on the relationship between Hollywood actor / recluse Will ‘Fitz’ Baker, and musician/singer Maggie Sharp. At the end of book one –DISCREET-Will’s secrets have been revealed-his true identity and the facts leading up to his disappearance and escape from the Hollywood lifestyle have been exposed, a disappearance for which he is about to pay, As Maggie comes to terms with the who, how and why of her relationship with Will, Will is forced to finish out a contract that places Maggie in the spotlight for all of the wrong reasons. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Maggie and Will, and the fall-out as betrayal, jealousy, discrimination and the media frenzy begin to take its’ toll on our story line couple.

INDISCREET focuses on the animal that is Hollywood-the fame, the fortunes, the manipulation and greed. From the power-hungry producers to an industry rife with sexual predators, alcohol and drugs INDISCREET does not discriminate between the have and the have-nots. Alcohol knows no boundaries-everyone is susceptible; no one is safe. Maggie and Will must traverse a landscape of paparazzi and small-minded bigots as their relationship becomes headline fodder, and Maggie’s history is about to be exposed.

Nicole French pulls the reader into a cautionary tale of betrayal and revenge; family and heart ache; power, greed, loss and control. The character driven premise is spirited, raw and intoxicating; the romance is captivating and passionate; the characters are broken, flawed, charismatic and animated. INDISCREET is a spicy, gritty and intense look at the price of fame in an industry that focuses on the bottom line.

When not writing fiction or teaching writing classes, she is hanging out with her family, playing soccer with the rest of the thirty-plus crowd in Seattle, or going on dates with her husband. A CHRISTMAS RESCUE (Silver Bell Falls #4) by Samantha Chase

REVIEW: A CHRISTMAS RESCUE by Samantha Chase follows the acrimonious relationship between veterinarian Dr. Gavin Maguire , and office receptionist Bailey Walsh. The holidays are just around the corner, and Silver Bell Falls Pet Clinic has lost the Christmas spirit thanks to Dr. Gavin Maguire or Dr. Grinch as his employees have started to call him. Unable to stand Gavin’s Scrooge-like behaviour Bailey and the staff decorate the office for Christmas only to be threatened with their jobs within hours of arrival. Unwilling to stand down, Bailey hands in her resignation but quickly finds herself as the veterinarian’s assistant when a homeless lab goes into labor at a downtown shelter, and a snow storm shuts down Silver Bell Falls. What ensues is the quick building romantic relationship between Gavin and Bailey when Bailey becomes snowbound in Gavin’s apartment, and the potential fall-out as Gavin’s past continues to eat away at his heart and his soul.

A CHRISTMAS RESCUE is a sweet story of acceptance, understanding, love and moving forward. The premise is engaging; the romance is passionate-the $ex scenes are implied and fade to black; the characters are colourful, dynamic and stubborn. Samantha Chase invites the reader to Silver Bell Falls where love truly does conquer all.

STRANDED IN THE SNOW by Noelle Adams is a contemporary, adult , stand alone romance story line in the author’s Holiday Acres Series. This is marketing and advertising coordinator Olivia Holiday, and photographer Scott Matheson’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Scott and Olivia) STRANDED IN THE SNOW follows the enemies to lovers relationship between event coordinator Olivia Holiday, and photographer Scott Matheson.

There is some bad blood between the Holiday and Matheson families, bad blood that has resulted in a long standing feud over ownership of the Holiday family owned Holiday Acres in central Virginia. Hoping to get an early look at one of the cottages for an upcoming photo shoot, Scott and Olivia find themselves snowbound in the Holiday Acres honeymoon cottage, where food is in abundance but the power and heat are in short supply. Emotional and overly sensitive, Olivia struggles with her nearness to a man she loves to hate. Time together means reminiscing about events of the past, and the realization that not all is as it seems. What ensues is the enemies to lovers relationship between Scott and Olivia, and the potential fall-out as Scott struggles with demons from his past.

STRANDED IN THE SNOW is a fast paced, entertaining and heart breaking story line. There is some back story and history between the Matheson and Holiday families but the current generation is pushing aside the poison and lies that all but destroyed two families.

Lucky Girl (Lucky Alphas #2) by Mallory Crowe-a review

Lucky Girl (Lucky Alphas #2) by Mallory Crowe-a review

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N / KOBO / Chapters Indigo /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 25, 2018

Luck has never been on Harper’s side, but everything will change when she meets the one man she can’t control. He could be the best thing that’s ever happened to her or destroy everything she’s ever worked for. Either way, the game will be fun…

•••••••••

REVIEW: LUCKY GIRL is the second instalment in Mallory Crowe’s contemporary, adult LUCKY ALPHAS erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on a group of former friends originally from Birdsville, Ohio. This is thirty-three year old, headhunter Harper Sloan, and PI Lucas Stone’s story line. LUCKY GIRL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information form the previous instalment is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for back tory and cohesion as there is an ongoing story line throughout.

SOME BACKGROUND: Years earlier, several friends in Birdsville, Ohio (Wade, Shane, Harper, Sarah and Leo) walked a very tight line between right and wrong, and the ensuing cover up was years in the making. Fast forward to present day wherein someone is trying to take down millionaire Wade Maxium by slowly revealing sins of the past.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Harper and Lucas) LUCKY GIRL follows the building but acrimonious relationship between thirty-three year old, head-hunter Harper Sloan, and PI Lucas Stone. Harper has been tasked by former high school friend Wade Maxium to investigate the sudden appearance in and around Birdsville ,Ohio of a number of ‘boxes’ containing secrets from the past but Harper is not alone when she discovers that Wade has also hired PI Lucas Stone to aid in the recovery of the mysterious boxes. But things go from bad to worse when Lucas is arrested under false pretenses, and the only way to set himself free to go in search of his past, a past he was hoping to forget. What ensues is the slow building relationship between Lucas and Harper, the search for missing money and a woman who disappeared weeks before.

Lucas Stone has no idea as to the who and why of Harper Sloan but working together for Wade meant working with the woman with whom he would fall in love. When an ex-lover and charity money go missing, Lucas becomes the number one suspect, and discovers not all is at it appears to have been.

The relationship between Harper and Lucas is tempestuous at best. Harper and Lucas are used to working alone but working together sets our couple towards a path of their own happily ever after. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include some of the locals in and around Birdsville, Ohio, as well as Lucas’ former business partner Evan Park, Oliver and Meredith Reinhardt, and their daughter Lily.

The world building deviates from the search for the mysterious boxes as Lucas and Harper are forced by circumstance to hunt for a missing woman who does not want to be found. Similar to the author’s Stolen Hearts, the Lucky Alphas series follows a trail of secrets, lies, power and revenge.

LUCKY GIRL is a story of family, secrets, betrayal and lies. The premise is intriguing and entertaining; the romance is sensual and seductive but I missed the palpable sexual attraction between our leading couple; the characters are strong, colorful and charismatic. LUCKY GIRL is sexy and spicy story that adds another dimension to the author’s Lucky Alphas series.
